I had to
Wait, does the cheating thing on the bond always works? bcs that would be kinda freaky for R!Dipper like imagine you get pinned down by someone in the corner of a br or smthng and then said person kissed you and proceeded to explode into red mist and you literally have no idea what happened.
Also, would the constellation mark be a "cursed" Mark over the years, like you would give birth to a baby and the doctor says "😟 I am so sorry ma'am,,, I'm afraid your baby has the Cipher Companion mark. ( could also be something equally as science-y like Ursa Major, Constellation Calamation, etc idk)" And you just burst into tears.
Would that mean that dipper would get into a special program(demon wrangling program or smthng, demonologist? Maybe)? Or would the parents hide it away hoping that Bill would never take their child away?
(Sorry this au is just very interesting to me,,,, I hope u get more motivation, keep writing author 💪)
These are all options! The fun part of reincarnation AU being left ambiguous is that technically any of them could happen.
#And when Dipper regains his memory perhaps Mom!Mabel does too? That's gotta be pretty weird for them#Or maybe it's like 'wow. Huh. Well I guess that explains a few things#since they always acted a bit more like siblings than the average single mother/ cursed child dynamic#Sorry I just love this concept so much. I've actually thought about it a few times but I couldn't tell if that was like. a weird thing to do#An old bond once again rekindling itself by chance and the opportune nature of infinite lives <3#Mabel would be a good mom I think even though she looooves embarrassing her son so so much#He's way too caught up in stuff like fitting in and having friends when all he REALLY needs is to find one hot guy and lock that in#I think if the birthmark became the omen that it so clearly is Mabel would hype him up and try styling his hair to emphasize it#What a handsome and doomed young man! So SO cosmically doomed <3 She's very proud of him and his inescapable fate#And let's not be modest here. It was a teen pregnancy and she doesn't give a damn who the father is so long as there's this cutie patootie#She may also be one of the first parents after Dipper's first death who names him 'Dipper' again. Something about it. The name spoke to her#Okay but I don't wanna linger on just this because I love ALL of your tags and also it's way too late for me to rant about motherly love#I always just kind of assumed their cheating arrangement kicked in once Dipper was. Ya know. *Dipper* again.#Makes for at least a handful of awkward sweaty kisses for him to cringe about late at night until his husband arrives to clean the slate#The thought of it being an ETERNAL agreement I can also see. Bill's too possessive for his (Dipper's) own good smh#He's like. Five. It doesn't even mean anything when he kisses her. Just that he likes that she knows stuff about bugs and that's cool.#And she explodes. Not the best introduction into the world of romance. It causes a shit ton of trauma regarding romance and his own intimacy#He doesn't know that Bill's the one person he *CAN* kiss and it tears him up inside wondering what those lips feel like#First time Bill really reads the mood right and tries closing in on him Dipper shoves him away. THAT'S a miscommunication#Or maybe he just sort of. Thinks people explode when they get romantic and that's normal. He's kind of surprised Bill *didn't* explode#thank you for leaving room for angsty fanfictioners because I love terrible awful things happening to the mc that leave them forever changed#Some guy gets. Too close. Far too close. Dipper didn't even *want* to be there in the first place so why in the hell does it happen to him?#God that is just overflowing with character struggle and future issues with intimacy in his personal life. How would Bill even approach this#Who's more upset? Dipper for 'letting' it happen? Or Bill for not being able to protect him when it did?#They're both a mess in this scenario of course. Just a couple of guys unable to communicate how much they want to touch but just. Can't.#It's just so hard- Dipper wants to hold him. He wants to stay away. He has fantasies that make him sick to his stomach with lust and guilt#Bill's boiling beneath the surface but the threat's already been long dealt with. Still. There's the damage left behind in Dipper's chest#They'll figure it out eventually. Their love is a lot more than physical touch. It's spiritual. Even Dipper's nerd brain knows that#Dipper's first time with someone *Not* Bill back in his teen years is so bad that he just assumes sex is supposed to be 'meh#Then his husband comes along and shatters the goal post that is his expectations and it is great. Find someone who is so hot and so annoying

Spooktober Day 15 - “I swear, that door was locked a minute ago.”
Shorter post today and not too spooky. Just some Ford fluff and the twins being cute and mischievous.
Tumblr media
Your lips met, soft and slow, the world outside the room fading as you focused only on him. Stanford. You could feel the tension in his shoulders ease as the kiss deepened, both of you savoring the rare moment of peace in the otherwise chaotic Mystery Shack. His other hand reached up, brushing lightly against your cheek. The gesture was tender and familiar. You felt a flutter in your chest, that comfortable thrill that always accompanied being close to him. And then, suddenly—creak.
You froze, pulling back slightly. The door, which had been firmly closed and locked when you first entered Ford’s study was now slightly ajar. A cold draft swept in from the hallway, raising the hairs on the back of your neck. Your brows furrowed in confusion and you turned to look at the door. Your heart rate quickening for an entirely different reason than the six fingers tracing across your hip bone.
“I swear, that door was locked a minute ago,” you said, voice low, more to yourself than to Ford.
Ford narrowed his eyes at the door, stepping slightly away from you, but his hand remained gently on your waist. “It was,” he said, sounding puzzled and just a little concerned. “I’m certain of it.”
For a split second, a chill ran down your spine. The inky blackness from the just beyond the dim light of his study poured in. It wouldn’t have been the first time something supernatural found its way into Ford’s study. You half expected a ghostly figure of some lunar jack to step through the door. It wouldn’t be the first time one of those ghosts came barging in. Ford’s hand tensed against you and you both shared a look of silent understanding.
However, before either of you could investigate further, the door swung open with a loud crash and the sound of stifled giggles filled the room. You blinked, the tension quickly evaporating as you recognized those familiar voices.
“Gotcha!” Dipper called out from behind the door, a mischievous grin plastered on his face. Mabel peeked out from behind him, unable to suppress her giggles any longer. “We knew something was going on in here!”
Your mouth fell open, half in shock, half in your own amusement, as Ford sighed heavily beside you, pinching the bridge of his nose. “Dipper, Mabel, how many times do I have to tell you-“
“You locked the door,” Mabel interrupted, bouncing into the room, her eyes sparkling with amusement. “But we picked the lock! Grunkle Stan taught us this morning!”
Dipper crossed his arms, looking entirely too proud of himself for a kid who just interrupted what was supposed to be a private moment. “Sorry, Grunkle Ford, but you know you can’t keep us out now.”
Ford sighed again, but you could see the slight twitch of a smile on his lips. You couldn’t help but laugh, shaking your head. The twins always had a way of turning even the most endearing moments into something absurd. Still, you’d come to love that about life at the Mystery Shack. It was never boring.
“I’m starting to think we should install a more complicated lock,” you muttered under your breath which earned a quiet chuckle from Ford.
“Good idea,” he agreed, casting a fond look at the twins. Despite the interruption, you knew that moments like these, full of laughter and warmth, were the reason you stayed in Gravity Falls with this man. Even if it meant kissing Ford in stolen moments that always seemed to get interrupted.

UWAGH I FOUND YOUR ACCOUNT AGAIN!!!!!! YES!!!
Hi. Hello. Your fic is the fucking BEST. I read it earlier today and I'm definitely gonna go back and leave comments when I have more time to come up with proper words, but I wanted to come squeal about it sooner than that so! Here I am!
You write the conflict AMAZINGLY. Each and every chapter I was absolutely blown away by how *real* it felt. I especially loved the panic attack with Dipper and Stan, and how Stan was so out of his element but did his best anyway. I also just LOVE that Ford didn't want to restart the portal- and dismantled it instead. And the guilt, catching up to him in his nightmares like that, with him trying to come up with different ways to get them back while still tearing the portal apart.... it's so wonderfully done. All of it is so wonderfully done!!!!! Not to mention that brief glimpse of Mabel at home with her parents. I hope Ford doesn't send her back, but I've got a feeling that they're probably not going to give him a choice on the matter, lol.
I'm sorry for rambling AAAA I love your fic so much have an amazing day/night!!!!!!!!!!
HI! HELLO THERE! I'M SUPER GLAD YOU FOUND MY ACCOUNT TOO CAUSE YOU'RE MY FIRST EVER ASK!! :) fair warning, this might get long...
first off, wow, THANK YOU, this response made me smile and kick my feet — i just love that you love this fic. the response i've gotten on here in the past few days alone has been amazing and i love nothing more than talking about this thing with you guys. feel free to flood my inbox with asks or just come and ramble, seriously, you NEVER have to apologize for that i appreciate every word!
this au is conflict on top of conflict on top of conflict for the pineses. reverse drifting stars is really every member of the pines family stuck directly in their own personal nightmare scenario, and the uncertainty they all feel is bound to be at an all time high. i'm glad you think i'm portraying it well and that it feels realistic!
the panic attack scene was something i knew was coming the second i sat down and started writing. i'm a sucker for post-sock opera h/c fics, and i really wanted to explore dipper's post-possession trauma with stan as a witness. the kids really left him in the dark for a lot of things in canon, bill included, but a lot of dipper's walls will have to come down in ttwl. not just because of the lack of privacy when you're traveling tandem on unfamiliar planets, but because he doesn't have mabel by his side to help him through these things anymore. he's had his sister with him for every terrible thing that's happened since he was a baby, and now that support is just gone. that's where stan comes in, and they'll have to be that for each other. their bond once dipper starts trusting him and he loses some of that angst he's carrying around right now will be STRONG. super excited to continue exploring their dynamic.
(and, yeah, stan is extremely out of his element in that scene, but i imagine he's had some experience with panic attacks either from a younger ford or himself even, though i doubt he'd call it that if he was experiencing one.)
i'm also glad ford disassembling the portal felt accurate to the story. i struggled a bit with that decision, but i think ultimately it would play out like this, with ford battling with logic and emotion and his all-consuming desire to have a family and to belong. his nightmares are supposed to be the love he has for his brother rearing up and trying to tell him "hey! you're being incredibly selfish and stupid," but it really takes seeing mabel and seeing the true consequences of his actions reflected in her life for him to reconsider. though, without the oracle's foresight i think this would still be difficult for him. in ttwl, ford is banking on the fact that she's implied he will be the one to kill bill. his ego is very much still at play here.
and ohhh... the parents. i can do a whole post on them, and i probably will at some point. i've always wondered why people don't include them in drifting stars, though i understand it because they are a difficult work around. more on their reactions later, they'll be back! they handled things about as horribly as they could've but they love their kids very much and want what's best for them, and uh... let's just say the piedmont pines home isn't the greatest of places for a grieving child at the moment.

Outcasts Together
Summary: Relativity/Reunion Falls, Ford gets introduced to Fiddleford.
Masterlist
Author's Note: Sorry it's been so long, I wanted to post Ford and Fiddleford's meeting next, but it did not want to cooperate with me for the longest time.
Stan is trying to talk to Ford about his best friend, and doesn’t seem to take the hint that he needs to drop it, like seriously.  Maybe Stan has the best of intentions, but whoever this Fiddleford is, meeting him isn’t going to end well.  Stan had already told him that he doesn’t like monsters and weirdness as much as they both do, meaning that the weird cheat code that allowed Stan to be okay with Ford’s freakishness isn’t going to apply here.
And it’s not like he blames Stan for not getting that.  But there’s only so many times Ford can change the subject to something innocuous before it starts to become obvious that’s what he’s doing.  He’s going to have to come up with some way to bite the bullet and explain to Stan that he’s going to just stay away from his friends, for all of their sakes.
Unfortunately, before he can work up the courage to do that, Stan makes a move he hadn’t been expecting.  He’s been put in charge of working the register for the morning, and they’d run out of streamers.  So he heads off to find Grauntie Mabel and let her know, and instead finds the very reason that they’ve run out of streamers, when he finds Stan and Grauntie Mabel setting up some kind of party in the backyard.
“Uh,” Ford says, and they both immediately whirl to face him.  “Is it somebody’s birthday?”
“Dang it,” Stan snaps, stomping his foot.  “We were so close.”
“What?  Sorry?”
“No, you just weren’t supposed to see it until we finished setting it up,” Stan says with a sigh of disappointment.  After a second, however he pops right back up again.  “But we set up a party so you can meet Fiddleford and you two can bond and stuff!”
“You— you what?”
“Well you keep avoiding the topic every time I try to talk to you about it,” Stan says.  “And you have to meet him sometime.”
“No, I do not!  I shouldn’t!”
“Hey, bud, it doesn’t have to be a scary thing,” Grauntie Mabel says, giving him a concerned frown.  “And we’ve set up some things you two are gonna have in common.”
“Yeah, we’ve got a ‘Pin the Head on the Multibear’ game for you,” Stan says with a bright smile, gesturing over to where a display is set up with what looks like a cardboard body of a bear, with far too many heads next to it.  “And then every time you get one in the right place you get to practice shooting Fiddleford’s new dart gun!  That part’s for Fidds.  And we get to shoot at Waddles!”
“No you don’t,” Grauntie Mabel says instantly, and Stan huffs in irritation but seems to accept that answer pretty instantly too.
“We’re gonna make your favorite desserts.  Fidds is apple pie, and I guess it’s probably a good thing that you found us ‘cause I don’t actually know what yours is—”
“It doesn’t matter,” Ford says firmly.  “I am not going.”
“Ford,” Stan groans, looking up at the sky in obvious exasperation.  “Fiddleford wants to meet you.”
“It doesn’t matter what he wants!  That doesn’t mean he’s going to like me!”
Stan exchanges a confused look with Grauntie Mabel, the latter of whom then turns back to Ford.
“I guess that’s true,” she says, taking a couple steps towards the porch.  “But buddy, Fiddleford has been Stan’s friend for a long time.”
“Yeah,” Ford snaps.  “That’s the point.”
“What’s the point?” Stan asks.  “She means he’s gonna want to like you.”
“He won’t,” Ford says.  “It doesn’t matter what he wants, he won’t like me.  And then you’re gonna feel awkward and like you have to make a choice between us, and he’s been around for a while so you’re obviously going to choose him, and I don’t want to make you do that anyway!  Seriously, just— just call this off.  I won’t ever get in your guys’ way, you can just hang out with him without me.”
Stan stares at him for a second.  “Uh, Ford,” he says, “I don’t think Fidds has ever disliked someone in his life.  Well, except for Preston Northwest and Bud Gleeful.  But there was a reason for that.  Plus, those guys are jerks.”
“Well, there’s a first time for everything,” Ford says.  “Or, second time.”
“Hey,” Grauntie Mabel says gently.  She gestures at the couch on the back porch.  “Come sit.”
Ford walks hesitantly over to the couch, and sits down just before Grauntie Mabel joins him on the other cushion.  Stan hops up on the arm next to her.
“Why are you so sure that Fiddleford isn’t going to like you?” Grauntie Mabel asks.  She’s looking at him with genuine concern, but it just makes Ford’s cheeks heat up in embarrassment.  He looks away.
“Because no one does,” he manages.  “I’m the freak with the extra fingers, or the weirdo who doesn’t understand people, or at best the freak with extra fingers that someone pretends to like so they can pull a hilarious practical joke when they reveal they don’t actually, and they just knew I wouldn’t pick up on it because I’m the weirdo who doesn’t understand people.”
“Are you serious?” Stan exclaims, and there’s such obvious fury in his voice that Ford turns back to face him.  There’s obvious fury on his face, too.
And to Ford’s surprise, there’s quite a bit of anger on Grauntie Mabel’s face too, though she seems like she’s trying to keep it more under control.
“Why do you guys look like that?” Ford asks, baffled.
“Why— what do you mean— who does that?” Stan snaps, throwing his hands up in the air.  “That’s not funny!”
“Ford,” Grauntie Mabel says, reaching out and putting a gentle hand on his arm.  “Do you not have any friends back home?”
Ford shakes his head.
“Okay,” Grauntie Mabel says, though it doesn’t sound like she thinks it is.  “Well, buddy, Fiddleford isn’t like that.  I’ve known him almost as long as Stan has.  He wouldn’t do something like that.”
“He wants to like you,” Stan says.  “Because I like you.  And he knows I want him to like you too.”
“But you said he doesn’t like monster stuff,” Ford says.
“So?  He’s still a bonafide weirdo.  As if I’d be friends with anyone who wasn’t.  The normies couldn’t handle me,” Stan says, crossing his arms with a grin.
Ford looks down and fidgets with his extra fingers.
“Ford,” Grauntie Mabel says, nudging him gently in the side.  “I do think meeting Fiddleford would be a good idea.  Is there a way we could help you feel more comfortable with this?”
Ford squeezes his hands together.  “Can I bring Nina?” he asks quietly.
He sees Grauntie Mabel nod out of the corner of her eye.  “Of course.”
“He knows Nina,” Stan says.  “He probably won’t comment on her, if you’re worried about it.  At least not negatively.”
That doesn’t exactly help Ford calm down, but he nods anyway.  He still feels like this whole thing is going to go up in flames when he actually meets Fiddleford, but… he can give it a shot, he supposes.
Fiddleford arrives shortly after lunch, just as Grauntie Mabel is carrying out both the apple pie and the brownies that Ford asked for.  Ford is sitting on the back porch couch, clutching Nina close and fiddling with her extra tentacle.  He’s still very unsure about this, but he’s doing it.
He sees a car pull up, and Stan jogs over immediately, meaning it must be him.  A kid with light brown hair, glasses, and a dart gun climbs out and waves at whoever’s in the front seat, who waves back with a smile, says something that sounds like a pick up time, and then turns to drive off.
Ford squeezes Nina tighter against his chest as both the new kid and Stan turn back to face him.  Stan starts over along with him, which helps the nerves in Ford’s chest just a little.  Out of the corner of his eye, he sees Grauntie Mabel set the desserts down on the table and give him a thumbs up.
“Ford,” Stan says, as they both walk up the steps and stop in front of the couch.  “This is Fiddleford.  Fiddleford, this is Ford.”
Fiddleford beams at him.  “I’ve heard so much about you!” he calls, and Ford takes a moment to adjust to the southern accent he was not expecting.  “I bet you weren’t expecting to be here a couple months ago.”
Ford laughs a little, though he’s pretty sure the nerves in his voice are obvious.
“Uh, no,” he admits, tugging gently on Nina’s tentacle.  “For a couple reasons, actually.”
“I’ll bet,” Fiddleford says, plopping down on the couch next to him  He sets his dart gun to the side.  “Stan tells me you like the monsters in this town, though.  Do you have a favorite?”
“How should I know?” Ford says, glancing down at Nina.  “I haven’t met all of them yet.”
Fiddleford laughs, and Ford tenses, his shoulders hunching up around his ears.  But instead of something mocking or insulting, Fiddleford says, “I suppose that’s fair.  It took Stanley a while to decide his favorite is the Hawktopus.”
Ford’s confused enough by that to look back up.  “The what?”
“The Hawktopus,” Stan butts in, a bright grin suddenly on his face.  “It’s half hawk, half octopus!  I’ve seen it flying through the woods and swimming in the lake.”
“You— huh?  That— that’s stupid,” Ford says.  “Why does that exist?  How does it survive, the hawk would need consistent air and the octopus would need consistent water.  That—” he stops.  “Uh— I mean, I—”
Before he can panic, however, Fiddleford just starts laughing.  Stan looks slightly offended and crosses his arms, but Fiddleford just grins back up at him a second later.
“Ha!” he says, putting his hands on his hips as if this is a grand victory.  “See?  I was right, and you’re the only one who thinks that isn’t stupid.”
“Oh, come on!  This is Gravity Falls we’re talking about!  You want to see stupid, you can look at any gnome who likes to run around here!  Why is the Hawktopus automatically the dumbest thing anyone’s ever heard of?”
“I mean, there has to be a line somewhere,” Ford mutters, hesitantly, lest the two of them start getting offended in a way that actually makes them mad.
“Agreed,” Fiddleford says, nodding up at Stan in a very final manner.  Stan huffs and storms off towards Grauntie Mabel, muttering something about cutting up the pie and brownies for the two traitors.
Fiddleford snickers as he watches him go, and then turns to Ford with a bright smile that Ford feels able to return a little easier.  He squeezes Nina tightly.
“Well thank you for helping to settle that debate,” he says.  He waits long enough that Ford realizes he’s supposed to say something  in response.
“Uh, no problem?” he says, cringing a moment later at how awkward and unsure he sounds.
Fiddleford’s smile just widens further though, and he folds his hands together in his lap as he turns to face Ford.
Ford immediately drops Nina to his lap and stuffs his hands in his pockets.
“I remember the first time I saw this place’s weirdness,” he says.  “It was just before I met Stanley, actually.”
“You didn’t grow up here?” Ford asks.
“You think I got this accent in Oregon?” Fiddleford asks, and Ford smiles a little.
“Nah, I moved here about two years ago,” Fiddleford continues.  “So if you ever need to talk about weirdness to someone who hasn’t lived here his whole life, I can help you out.”
“So you… don’t like Gravity Falls’ weirdness,” Ford asks, clenching his hands together tightly in his pockets.  Stan had told him that, but hearing Stan say it and hearing Fiddleford agree to it are two different things.
“I mean, not particularly,” Fiddleford says with a shrug.  “Stan’s the monster hunter, not me.  But it’s a part of life here, you get fairly used to it pretty quickly.”
“Yeah,” Ford mutters, looking down.
“That’s how I met Stan, you know.  He saved my lunch from a gnome.”
“So that’s how you became friends?” Ford asks, trying to just keep the conversation going until Stan or Grauntie Mabel shows up and he can get out of here.
“Well, no.  That came later.  Stan was pretty out of my league at the time, friendship-wise.”
“Huh?” Ford asks, glancing back up despite himself.  “What do you mean?”
“Stan was pretty popular growing up,” Fiddleford says with a shrug.  “He made friends pretty easy wherever he went.  When I first met him, he was friends with the likes of Bud Gleeful and Preston Northwest.”
“He was?” Ford asks, more than a little surprised.  With the way Stan treated Bud before, and how he talked about them both when he mentioned him earlier, they didn’t strike him as people Stan had good opinions of.
“Heh, yeah,” Fiddleford says, suddenly looking a little unsure.
“That’s not what I was expecting,” Ford admits, looking back over at Stan, who’s dragging Waddles away from the brownies while Grauntie Mabel’s taking both desserts and holding them up above the point Waddles can reach them.  “Why isn’t he anymore?”
“Oh, uh, well that’s… kinda my fault.”
Ford looks back over at Fiddleford.  “What?  It is?”
“Yeah,” Fiddleford says, rubbing the back of his neck.  “Bud and Preston aren’t exactly the nicest, you know?”
Ford hasn’t met Preston, but he wrinkles his nose as he thinks back on his first interaction with Bud.  “I know.”
“Yeah.  Well, a country boy from Tennessee who’s scared of most of the monsters around, even tamer ones, makes for a pretty easy target.  Stan was never around when they were, well, you know, but I kinda assumed he knew what was goin’ on anyway.  He… didn’t, though.  Didn’t like it very much when he found out, either.”
That, Ford has an easier time picturing.  But though there’s clearly more to the story, Fiddleford doesn’t say anything else, and Ford’s not going to push him.
“Wait, so you… you felt bad that he picked you over them,” Ford realizes, eyes widening slightly.
“Well, yeah.  Wouldn’t you?”
Ford looks back over at Stan, who’s now successfully gotten Waddles to sit still by giving him a bowl of leftover apple peels, that must have been from the pie.  He’s petting Waddles on the head, looking fond but exasperated.
“Yeah,” Ford says, without looking away.  “But I think Stan probably made his own choice, there.”
Fiddleford sighs.  “I reckon you’re right,” he says.  “It’s in the past now anyway.”
Ford looks down at his pockets, and slowly unclenches his fists.  “Maybe,” he agrees.  “But I get it.”
Fiddleford gives him a curious look.  “What do you mean?”
Ford pulls his hands out of his pockets and wraps them around Nina, trying to stop them from shaking.  “Nothing,” he says.  “Just… I’m not too used to having friends either.”
When he looks back at Fiddleford, he finds Fiddleford still looking at his face, not paying any attention to his hands.
“Well,” Fiddleford says.  “We can always be outcasts together.”
Ford smiles despite himself.  “I’d like that,” he says.
Fiddleford sticks his hand out, and Ford bites his lip hard as he reaches out and shakes it.
Fiddleford’s smile doesn’t change at all.
End Notes: I’ve got a feeling that a Stan who grew up on his own using his natural social skills would probably be pretty popular, but that doesn’t mean it’s where he’d be happiest. I’ll probably write his and Fiddleford’s friendship beginnings out in detail at some point, but it’ll be after I wrap up the main stuff.

finished my rewatch of gravity falls today so here's some random thoughts i wrote down over the course of the last few episodes (sure most of this has been mentioned already but eh. no harm in repeating things):
-could you imagine how differently things would've gone if any of the pines members knew about ford's nightmare (especially stan)
-ford visibly shaking from how hard he's digging his fingers into the floor (referring to the security droid grabbing him)
-ford almost dies three times before bill actually captures him
-'i haven’t been able to find grunkle stan anywhere' was stan not at the shack at that time or did you just not consider checking his house
-a full limerick for 'man from kentucky' wasn’t allowed, but onscreen death is??
-shapeshifter wink + mabeland fake wendy wink
-why is the unicorn half petrified? what caused the gnome to be mostly petrified, but not quite? how was woodpecker guy able to keep his petrified woodpecker? so many questions about these guys. what occurred here
-first time ford gets turned to "gold", he appears cracked. the second time, he’s free of cracks. implication: either the stone/"gold" people get turned into cracks over time or bill roughed ford up a bit even before the torture
-bill disassembles ford and reassembles him on the other side of the room. interesting to consider for. y'know. torture
-speaking of bill, WHY DO YOU HAVE EIGHT EYELASHES NOW. YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO HAVE SEVEN
-love fiddleford so much. and also zanthar. and craz and xyler. and soos. and-
-manly dan hugs wendy more gently than soos does
-'(strangely genuine) good to see you too bro >:(' i'm sorry stan did seeing your brother trapped in a horrifying gold-ish statue change your tune a bit
-i agree with the circle actually. the fuck are you doing, stan.
-i feel like the stan twins were strangled in different ways. it seems like ford was literally being strangled and bill was doing something directly to stan's lungs, based on the way they reacted to it. or i'm looking way too much into the animation who knows
-the way stan kneels on the ground :((((
-actually every scene with post-deal stan in it
-ford ultimate depression
-waddles was waiting for them :(((((((((
-stan lies in different ways depending on what he remembers (referring to him lying about the destroyed house being a nice place to be polite)
-'someone get waddles off of me!!' ford: :0 :D
-this also implies that ford learned waddles name at some point
-was wondering why pacifica seemed to have a bit of a character regression. then realized that she had to live with her abusive parents after the party. they uh. they need to be obliterated (heck you can even tell there's a sort of distance between them based on the fact that pacifica's parents wait for her to come to them, as opposed to the corduroys running to wendy immediately. it's not even a durland + blubs situation, they are fully aware of their surroundings at this point)
-pacifica's still trying her best though!!
-ford sings happy birthday with everyone else :)))
-ford's hair grows out really quickly
-'heh' resulting in an immediate :0 until ford keeps talking, at which point stan smiles again
-stan did you think that laugh was intended to be a 'that's ridiculous stan why would you ever think that' type deal and not a 'wow i love talking to you this is great' type thing
-'SHUT UP FOREVER'
-'CAN IT SOOS' in sync (hey ford you learned his name!)

Some Not-So-Gentle Reminders and Points for the Gravity Falls Fandom (And for Fandoms in General) to Consider, Especially the Dishonest and Clueless “Apologists”
Note: So here’s my official first Gravity Falls post. I’m not exactly a new fan, though I am having a second wind of interest and appreciation for it and everything in it. For this particular post, I guess I just really felt like getting some thoughts off my chest and just kept going after that. Sorry for lack of pics/direct evidence. This was supposed to be quick and most of this stuff should be pretty obvious if you just pay attention and take the bias goggles off. I might come back and add images/media later. I’ll gladly correct any mistakes too, big or small, if need be.
Now consider this:
- Stan, in the scene where he allegedly “broke” Ford’s science fair project, didn’t even touch it! I repeat, Stan DID NOT touch Ford’s science fair project! What he touched, was the table it was set on when he slammed his fist down! Yet he was and still is blamed for it breaking by everyone in the fandom and show, even himself. How has this common claim so rarely been questioned by a fandom that prides itself on being skeptical and solving mysteries? Just use your eyes and rewatch the scene, people!
- The fact that Ford was so quick to accuse Stan—the one person in the whole world out of his entire life that had supported him through thick and thin and always protected him—of breaking his project based on minimal evidence at best, implies that Ford already had a low opinion of Stan by that point and probably much earlier. It implies that even if he did love Stan, he definitely didn’t believe in him. No one had ever believed in or supported Stan until Soos came into his life, followed by Wendy, Dipper and Mabel.
- No matter how you try and slice it, Ford had been outright shown time and time again, through both words and actions, to have not appreciated Stan’s love or devotion to him, or their closeness. At least not outwardly, to us viewers. His true feelings might not always show and we do get some glimpses here and there of his thoughts on Stan, but appearances matter a lot! Someone being open to doing things with another person, seemingly to keep up an air of decency and calm while they’re trapped in the same place together, doesn’t mean that person appreciates the other. It doesn’t even necessarily mean that you want a relationship with that person or to reconcile.
- Ford’s usage of the words “suffocating” and “meant for something greater” when talking to Dipper about familial relationships and specifically the boy’s connection with his sister Mabel, besides many other talked-to-death things, is very telling and shows how much he was terrified of the intimacy he had with Stan. There’s literally no nicer way to put it. He didn’t just want to escape the bullying he received or the crappy town he grew up in. He wanted to escape Stan. At some point in his adolescence, Ford seemed to have grown to view Stan as an obstacle to his success, a weight on his shoulders, a leech or spotlight hog of some sort, or just a painful reminder of awful experiences. This in itself is a very realistic reaction and when you look at the examples, the case for Ford truly being proud of what he had with Stan looks very shaky. Despite what I’ve noted here, I do think Ford did and does greatly love Stan deep down. But he also seemed to be afraid of something, which seems to have led to him wanting to run away from his feelings—and from Stan.
- Again, it’s possible to love someone dearly but still harm them or view them as harmful to you or for both of you to harm each other. If you really want to view Ford’s immediate discarding of what was supposedly both his and Stan’s dream, along with Stan himself, in a somewhat more positive (well, more selfless) light, you could argue that Ford thought he was holding Stan back (instead of solely vice versa). After all, if Stan did depend on Ford as much as we see him do in the series to the point where they were practically a (mis?) matched pair of socks, it could very well be that Ford felt like he was forcing Stan to be the ‘dumb but brawny and funny’ twin to his ‘smart but weak and weird’ self. Maybe he figured Stan shouldn’t have to keep defending him and making a fool of himself to make Ford happy and feel less alone in his ‘freakishness’ into adulthood. Perhaps he thought some separation was what they both needed to finally grow into two fully-fledged, separate beings.
- There’s an argument to be made that Ford is/was extremely narcissistic and insecure. You know what many narcissists (with or without NPD) have in common? They have low self-esteem. Low self-esteem often born from a childhood of emotional abuse and neglect and constantly being told there’s something wrong with you, that you’re not and will never be good enough. Low self-esteem and a need to hide it and look for ways to avoid rejection or coming rejection, even if it’s just perceived. It can be easy to forget that Stan and Ford were both treated terribly inside the home as well as outside it. Ford was on some level the golden child whereas Stan was the scapegoat. There are some narcissistic dynamics going on here. (They’re very prevalent in families, you know?) Childhoods like theirs are known for breeding such people. This means that Ford may have saw himself in a negative light but felt Stan’s love was exacerbating the problem because he was being led to believe that Stan was a problem; The problem child.
- Stan shows signs of extreme codependency to the point of having traits that practically mimic that of BPD/EDD/EUPD (including insecurity and low self-esteem as well). He’s clearly terrified of abandonment yet of closeness too, at the same time. This is likely also caused by his and Ford’s childhood. Many people with BPD come from homes like theirs, too. Now I understand these are cartoon characters, so the urge to diagnose, while understandable, is typically pointless. However, if we’re speaking theoretically on which disorders match up with characters the most based on what we see and find out about them, then yes, Stanley seems to be extremely codependent—especially toward Stanford—and likely suffers from other emotional trauma that was made far worse after he was kicked out.
Do we ever see it so much as implied that this concerns Stanford though? That he sympathizes with whatever current plight his brother is going through even once outside of the finale of all times, particularly before Stanley had seemingly already been erased out of existence? I don’t think we do. Well, maybe once. Stanford gave Dipper a pretty and high tech tie to give to Stanley... I guess he wanted to throw his poor, dumb dog of a brother a bone. (I kid, I kid. But not really.)
You can’t even claim that it was the same the other way around and say that Stan doesn’t pay mind to Ford’s struggles or want to help him out of them ever, because the show often goes out of its way to illustrate to us the opposite and often also makes it clear just how much Stan adores Ford. Spending their childhood protecting and sticking up for him. Dropping/giving up everything for Ford repeatedly. Being concerned over Ford’s sanity/behavior when he visited him that fateful day in 1982. Still holding out hope he’ll change his mind on their old dream despite the hell he’s been put through. Forgiving Ford for everything even after he almost ‘dies’ to clean up the problem that, mind you, FORD CAUSED TO BEGIN WITH. Ford “ruined” his own life! (And is implied or explicitly shown to have had a hand in bringing about the intense hardship of others’ lives. E.g. Stanley, Fiddleford....the evidence is there.)
- In fact, there can be no talks about “who was more responsible for Weirdmageddon” without acknowledging who was the first one to shake the devil’s hand: Ford! I mean, of course it’s mainly Bill’s fault, he’s the villain! The point is that it’s harder for others to do wrong when we refuse to help them. We know romantic relationship cheaters are jerks but what about those who knowingly help the cheaters cheat? They never get a pass, now do they? Then the same can especially be said for Stanford, who did not refuse to help Bill—even despite warnings about summoning him—until it was too late and the cat was miles away from the bag. At that point he had no one to blame but himself for the problem continuing to escalate. I mean, don’t you remember the many questionable ways he tried to contain it?!
- Stanley is not even close to being the dumb twin. Not in anyway. On top of all the skills he’s learned over the decades, he’s actually implied to be close to as smart or even equal to Stanford. His whole life is actually a testament to how amazing he truly is at surviving and, given the right tools, thriving. You know what some of you sound like when you have nothing but crap to say about this main’s relatively positive traits, irrespective of his actual wrong-doings? Stanford Pines, pre-realization of all the ways he has screwed things up for those around him. You know, who the man was only after he erased Stanley’s memory. Though a lot of you seem to self-insert and project onto Stanford to an unpleasant extent anyway, so I guess that’s not surprising. You know who else you end up sounding like? Filbrick Pines. Yeah, that one. I don’t know, seems a bit disturbing to be. You know who else you often end up sounding like? Bill Cipher, if I remember properly. In fact, wasn’t it implied that much of Stanford’s negative views of Stanley and not needing family, was influenced by Bill? Hmm.
- You can not blame Stanley for pushing Stanford into the portal while completely ignoring the context of the scene and all the actions that lead up to that point. Ford sent Stan a vague postcard (implying he may have known how to reach Stan all along). Ford allowed Stan inside and in the basement where things were bound to be the most dangerous. Ford told Stan to take the book and get as far away from him (“sail as far away as you can. To the edge of the Earth”) as possible despite knowing their were a lot of tender feelings there, especially when it came to the two of them sailing together. Ford started the fight when Stan tried to burn the book he was given, that Ford wanted to get rid of anyway! Ford pushed Stan while trying to get said book back onto a bunch of buttons which activated the portal to begin with! The accidental lever turn came after that and the Stan accidentally pushing him into the portal was just the nail in the coffin of their faux family reunion that Ford caused to happen.
No one made Ford choose an unsuspecting Stan as a tool and means to an end for the mess he put himself and possibly the whole world in. That was his choice. Either they’re both to blame or Ford is solely to blame. What you’re not going to do is put the entirety of the blame on Stan. Call me every name in the book for this, but I believe the BIGGEST innocent victim in that scenario was Stan! You don’t need to blame him for every single terrible thing that happened to Ford because Stan already blames himself for everything! Even when it doesn’t look like it could have been him responsible for it! He already is full of shame and remorse that fill every step he takes every single day. He worried every day for thirty years that the blood of one of the only people in his life that he’s loved, may have been on his own hands.
- I think it’s possible that one of the reasons Ford latched on to Bill despite all the red flags, was because Bill reminded him of Stanley. He wanted a friend. He wanted his best friend back. Bill played the role almost perfectly—until he didn’t anymore and Ford realized his mistake. This could mean that there’s a chance he realized the biggest difference between Stan and Bill since he did end up contacting the former after Bill’s betrayal, and in his own words, chose Stan because he trusted him. He still trusted Stan. It could have been less than when they were children though and all that time with someone that reminded him of Stan yet ended up betraying him ‘too’ may have caused him to start associating Stan with Bill. I can imagine that after he was sucked into the portal, Ford’s associating Stan with painful betrayal may have worsened. But bringing him out of the portal could have slightly improved it. And seeing as they finally sailed away by the end, he realized must have he was wrong to ever associate them, if he had before. I bet they’re probably still sailing around the world together over a decade later right now.
- If the thought of both twins not returning home and choosing to live with their grunkles and exploring gravity falls/world and sailing the sea together, bothers you, ask yourself how it would have been soooo much better if only Dipper had stayed while Mabel went back home? You see the issue with that now? I won’t argue whether or not it’s okay for a 12 - 13 year old boy to stay in a far off place with an adult family member. After all their parents didn’t mind sending them alone to Gravity Falls for the summer to live with their great uncle anyway, which was likely dangerous/irresponsible of them for many reasons. I just think it’s suspicious that some people can only see the issue if someone suggests that both twins should have left their parents and life in California behind to resolve the issue of the apprenticeship and keeping close to one’s sibling all at once.
- The Stan Twins told their story in ATOTS but only we, the audience, actually see it play out. The characters don’t. The way brothers explained it may have made it seem to each other like the other still had no sympathy for them and didn’t think that what they did was wrong. Stan even called Ford’s dream college “stupid” while the flashback was being shown and he was explaining his side of the story. The fact that neither apologizes for the painful things they helped contribute to in their young adulthood which affected them, probably didn’t help either.
- In one of the scenes from the ATOTS flashback, Ford yelled at Stan “Help me Stanley!” as he was slowly sucked into the portal. He wanted Stan to save him! These were Ford’s final words to him that Stan internalized and are what Stan immediately set out to do! He likely worked for decades with these last words in mind, not knowing whether Ford would still be alive when he brought him back to their world! Ford even threw the book that they’d fought over to Stan before he disappeared. How do you think that looked from Stan’s POV? Like a visual cry for help on top the audible one I bet! Also, Ford had some awful nightmares thanks to Bill. It was terrible what was done to him and pushed him to the point of insanity. However, he wasn’t the only one with fears, regrets and a troubled past. Imagine what Stan’s nightmares must have been like, especially the ones with Ford in them? The parts of Stan’s dreamscape that we got a view of were depressing. The dreary colors, the symbolism...
- Both sets of twins are extremely sensitive to and immediately take things to heart, especially insults/criticism and all of them can at times act less mature than their actual ages. They all feel inadequate in some way. They just showed these traits to different extents and unhealthily cope in different ways. Be careful with their feelings and what you say to them because all of them wear a front as a cover for protection. They also all occasionally lack common sense, act silly and say and do the oddest things at times. Plus they all need someone who genuinely loves them dearly to hold them down and would die for their family (or die of heartbreak if they didn’t get there in time).
- Stan and Ford after decades apart and so much animosity between them, are sailing on a ship. They could be together in the middle of nowhere very often. Knowing of all those negative feelings that were present, it leads me to think about all the ways their trip could have gone wrong. Many understand that their father was abusive, but what if they were or became abusive to each other? I don’t want to believe this would happen and I doubt we were supposed to consider such a thought. However, the terrible possibilities are still there. At worst, I prefer to think that things are at times bitter but then sweet.
- It’s very fascinating to me how so much “Stanford Defense” seems to be built upon throwing other characters under the bus to make him seem less culpable for his own choices. It boggles my mind how the same people who claim that characters such as Stan and Mabel are never questioned on anything (laughable to say this point, especially coming from them) seem to be the ones doing everything in their power to keep people from so much as voicing displeasure anymore at any part of Ford’s character. I swear I’m ever seeing the same names on different sites arguing with people about how wrongly ridiculed he is. It’s really is starting to look like all the “Stanford gets soooo much unnecessary HAAAAATE and is always bAsHeD” people are trying to take things in the opposite direction. Which is just as upsetting if not more so, because such behavior only leads to the shutting down of discussion and critique. That’s horrible for a fandom to go through, just like the other way around. Can’t Gravity Falls do better than that?
- Your faves won’t ever be every single person’s faves. Sometimes people will even dislike a character that you like. That’s fine! That’s life! Just don’t forget while loving said character, that this does not have to mean you approve of everything they say or do. You don’t need to jump to one’s defense whenever someone makes a point. Especially a valid one that can’t truly be disproven anyway. It makes you look delusional and like you’re in a parasocial relationship with that fictional character. Learn and never forget the difference between arguing an important point with societal implications and solely defending a character for the sake of it, please.
- Mental illness is not a joke or something to wear as a badge of honor. It’s also not something that, if noticed, should be swept under the rug. In the case of fictional characters, I think it’s quite admirable when people can see certain traits of themselves or their loved ones in characters past the stereotypical ones, but that also gives us a chance to talk about those traits and just how hard it can be to live with them and why sympathy and amnesty is so important to healing and moving forward. I believe Stan and Ford especially show signs of extreme mental illness in the show that I have a hunch were placed in them on purpose. This seems to be one of those cases where we’re supposed to see our own family dynamics in them.
- It’s asinine to claim to love a character but ignore or even outright deny their faults and flaws, even when they admit to it! If you love someone, love all of that person, even if you’re often at odds with them. When someone says they love Stanford for literally deny things about him that are proven to be true, I’m left wondering if that person actually loves him—or just the idea of him. Same with any other character this happens with. Enough with the need for our favorite characters to be pure, perfect versions of ourselves. Enough with the need to wipe away issues and to go as far as making up traits for the character, or even stealing their traits from another to make him or her look better and the other character look worse. You’re in effect masking what depth is actually present and risking putting a bad taste in the mouth of those that are neutral on them; souring them to the character and even fandom.
- Even the characters with potential who were unfortunately underutilized—such as Caryn Pines, the mother of the Stan Twins—still tended to fill their main roles in the story pretty well, even despite time restraints. Some of these and other side characters even managed to gain their own small group of fans and fan-creators on their behalf, within the larger fandom. That is pretty wild and deserves some praise. Nice one writers!
- Sometimes it really does help to just remove yourself from the story and just be meta with your takes, i.e. to distance yourself when discussing something because it helps make you less biased and more evidence-based. There are times where we really do see something in a character that indeed was not there or meant to be there. Death of the author can only allow for so much leeway in interpretations. Authorial intent will always matter. This show was very detailed and there are so many things you only noticed after looking again. Some theories exist that imply the whole story for the Pines Family would have mattered no matter what in-universe. We need to be careful when arguing things, we may be/end up wasting our time even more than we think. Oh and ...cartoon logic haha. Also no one loves or will ever love the Pines Family like the Pines Family can. Nor like the creators/writers themselves do. We also can not understand them the way the ones who made them can. When in doubt, it tends to be best to just trust them and their intentions, and your gut as a last resort.
- The Gravity Falls ending was meant to be a happy, fairytale-like ending. That’s how it’s been implied to be the case by the creator (probably not with the company known for fairytales, Disney, even asking him to) and is the reason why every character was so quick to forgive and forget, and why everyone but the ‘super bad guys’ got their ideal ending. Sometimes it’s really not about what would have been the most interesting or profound (or logical) to viewers when making directive choices but about what would make us feel most at peace.
Note: This was all written with mostly one perspective in mind. There are however, many others ones and I do think lots of them are valid takes too, some of them I may even agree with as well and may have hinted at. Also, although it can be hard to tell with so many questionable decisions made, things not done that should have been and even some writing errors here and there, I do think all four of the Pines Family members and those adopted into the family, truly love each other and express it in different ways. That’s what this whole show is really all about and how it ended: With Love for Family prevailing.

Hi!!! I really liked reading your Dipcifica fanfic, I thought the idea of telling the story of their relationship in three different perspectives/AUs is super cool, and it made me think about a few things regarding your interpretation of the AUs...
Like in Reverse Falls, for example: Do you think Reverse!Mabel is obsessed with Reverse!Gideon the same way Gideon is obsessed with Mabel in canon? In canon, I guess it makes sense because it's a younger person crushing on somebody older similar to Dipper and Wendy, but in Reverse Falls, I can't help but to feel it paints Reverse!Mabel to be a bit creepy...
More with Reverse Falls, how was the process in writing Reverse!Pacifica? Do you see her as like a Mabel 2.0, or like someone who banters with Dipper like a classic enemies-to-lovers trope? I don't know, I just feel like Pacifica fighting Dipper takes away from is out of character for someone who's supposed to be inspired by Mabel in canon.
Lastly, do you have any headcanons for Reverse Falls and Relativity Falls? Outside of Dipcifica of course lol
Sorry if this feels like I'm dumping a bunch of questions on you, I'm totally cool even if you end up answering just one of them. Can't wait for part 2!
hey! first off—thanks so much for sending me an ask!! no need to apologize for asking too much in a single ask tho, it motivates me to keep writing when lovely people like you interact with my work :,)
so, i dunno if i had made this clear when i posted the first part of the fic, but i don't really ship mabideon? (is that the ship name?) but i wanted to keep a familiar dynamic between the characters while writing with the reverse falls au—so instead of mabel crushing hard on gideon, i wanted to focus in on the whole possessiveness trait, having mabel fixate on gideon as if he were like this cute puppy or pretty doll that she wants to keep all to herself because yes, i agree that not only is it weird for mabel to be crushing on gideon but also completely unrealistic for a twelve y/o to be into a nine y/o...
as for reverse falls!pacifica, i wanted to make her as similar to [canon] mabel as possible, but it doesn't necessarily mean that she'll avoid fighting at all costs. maybe it's me, but sometimes i feel like people associate mabel too much as the happy-go-lucky girl that is constantly kindhearted when this girl! can!! fight!!! so, even though pacifica will want to be the bigger person for the most part, she's also not a pushover—meaning that when the gleefuls wrong her, she's not gonna forget it.
as for my headcanons for reverse falls and relativity falls aus, i think i might to get started on standalone posts for those since i have a lot in my mind about them—but i will say that reverse!pacifica does crush on reverse!robbie OOP

-DEAD WEIGHT
'Hnnnnghhhh!'
'Gross, gross, get off me!' Mabel yelled, batting the zombie off her as the decomposed corpse tried to grab her head. She saw a flash of teeth as it tried to chomp on her arm like a chew toy before a baseball bat swung down upon its skull.
She winced at the crunching noise, scrambling up to her feet as she regarded her saviour with a smile.
Then she realised who it was.
'Oh, it's you.'
Bill smiled. 'Wow, I save your stupid life and that's what I get? You got a stone cold heart there.'
She frowned with concern. 'I thought Dipper was with you.' The two had been together when she'd left them behing bickering to go ahead. Bill hadn't offed him, had he?
'Eh, he's fine. Last I saw him, he was rolling down some hill screaming like a girl.'
Oh, is that what she heard? She thought that was another woman in trouble.
'So,' Bill began, regarding her as the zombie made guttural noises beneath his foot.
Mabel smile back innocently. 'Soooo... what?
They both stared at one another without flinching.
'Shooting Star.'
'Yes?'
His eyes narrowed. 'Y'know, last I checked, there weren't any undead zombies roaming in these woods.'
'Oh, well you see, that's actually a really funny story.'
'Uh huh.'
'See, part of the reason I wanted to check the caves out is because I heard there was this wizard who used to live here and he could answer any five questions you had in exchange for shiny stuff! So, I brought some blank CDs and went to where he was supposed to be but there was nothing there!'
'Nothing?'
'Well, there was this weird stone that now I'm thinking about, was kinda shaped like a coffin? And it had some weird writing on it that I decided to read and.... well, tah dah?' She offered a sheepish smile, holding out her hands towards the thing beneath his feet. Usually it was Dipper who raised the dead by accident and she scolded him. Urgh, he was gonna have a field day having the shoe on the other foot, wasn't he? Noooooo.
'Please don't tell Dipper,' she said quickly.
Before he could reply, the zombie beneath him groaned again. Bill growled, looking down in annoyance. 'Will you shut up!?'
'No.'
They both froze.
'Whoah, did you just talk?' Mabel asked, eyes wide.
The zombie continuned to struggle but a clear voice came from beneath Bill's boot. 'Yes.'
'Ah, it worked!' Mabel gave a jump of delight. 'See, he's answering questions!'
'Yeah, and now you have three left.'
'I- huh?' She paused, thinking over the last few lines of dialogue before she frowned. 'Oh, urgh. Gotta make this one count then.'
'Why did you need a dead wizard to answer your questions? Maths too hard?'
'Yes,' the zombie groaned. Mabel kicked the wizard in the gut before giving Bill a glare.
'You're wasting my questions! And besides, I wouldn't disrespect him like that!' A pause. 'I was gonna ask him if there were any boys who liked me...' The ones in her school so far were being very wary, and she'd been shot down three times already. If she knew where to start with a positive frame to work with, it might be better.
'I can tell ya now there is.'
She blinked, tilting her head. 'Really?'
'Yeah, Gideon Gleeful. Go get him, tiger.'
'Bleh.' She made a face to his amusement.
'Anyway, I'm betting you cast some form of Speak to the Dead spell,' Bill drawled. 'We ask him two more questions, and he'll go back to being dead.'
'Is it really that easy?' Mabel realised her error a second too late as the zombie released a hissed "yes". She groaned in agrravation. Okay, one more question. Gotta make it count!
But before she could ask question both of the duo caught sight of flashing blue lights in the distnace through the treeline. Mabel froze. Cops? Had someone heard their screaming?
'Oooh, that's bad.'
'Oi, grab his legs. Now.'
Mabel took hold of the wizard by his lower half, grimacing when she felt some bare decomposed skin under her fingertips. The guy looked very much like a wizard with a long beard and robes adorning his corpse which has mostly decayed by this point. Gross.
Bill grabbed under his arms, and the two of them began shuffling away from the police lights. Talk about your Monday night.
The demon grinned. 'This is fun.'
'Seriously? We're trying to hide a body!'
'Hey, it's not like we killed him. Heck, you un-killed him technically. Ain't no laws against that. Well, not human ones anyway.'
The sound of movement in the bushes made them both freeze, heads snapping around as the leaves began to move. Mabel felt her heart leap into her throat as a figure stepped out from the overgrowth to reveal-
'Oh, it's just Dipper,' she said, sighing in relief as her body relaxed.
'Sup, Pine Tree.'
'Hnnnghghh,' the zombie groaned.
Dipper stared at them all with wide eyes, gaze dropping down to the zombie in their arms.
'What the hell are you doing?'
But before either of them could respond, a raspy voice cut them to the chase:-
'Flirting.'
'Huh!?'
'What!?'
Three pairs of heads snapped down to watch as the zombie made a peace sign with its fingers and dropped dead for good. Mabel and Bill both exchanged quick glances before grimacing and hastily dropping the wizard on the floor in favour of stepping away from one another.
Dipper continuned to stare on. 'Seriously, what the hell is going on here?

FELLOW LITERAL FUCKING OLD MAN X DORITO UNENJOYER 🫵
sorry idk why i felt the need to specifically contact you about it its just such a strange and stupid ship i literally go through and vet people's blogs to see if they're a raging "i think abuse is hot!" or whatever believer
also scooby doo pfp 🫵 🫵 thats mostly why i clicked onto your blog anyway sorry to bother you bye
misread this as billford ENjoyer and was confused cause I've never said anything to suggest that lol.
But yeah, I'm just not a fan. Like, to me, it's basically cannon as an abusive relationship when Ford was young, and post cannon just feels kinda poor taste
Like,, i get a lot of bill redemption aus are just supposed to be lighthearted, but it feels painfully out of character, no way in hell would Soos and Mabel be buddy buddy with him. And I've seen ones where characters get annoyed with Ford for not being nice??? To the guy who tortured him and his family???
I don't want Bill redeemed! I think putting him woth the family he tormented to "fix him" is weird as hell! And i think Ford getting with him defeats so much of his character arc!
His section of tbob ending with "I've found my happiness, and it looks like this" with this pic
Tumblr media
is wayyy more satisfying of an ending to me than billford will ever be. I just don't see the point of it tbh. I think people just downplay Bill being abusive since he's a literal triangle and a pretty comical villain, but still
Post cannon bill should be like wille e coyote. Always scheming, always getting blown up via cartoon violence. Personally, i think the pines family should be tying him to railroad tracks n shit
Anywayss, hell yeah Scooby Doo! My fav silly guy <33. No need to apologize for the ask btw! I love talking about gravity falls, and Ford's a character I've become very attached to since tbob. He's so interesting to me. As someone who's big on horror, he's definitely the type of character i likr

⌗ heeseung
heeseung is definitely the type of person that tries to talk to the person he sits beside all the time
he nudges you all the time and whispers your name whenever he wants your attention
and the fact he had a huge crush on you also added to it
enhypen always have to listen to him since he never ever stops talking about you. like ever.
“oh my god you will never know what y/n told me when i—” and suddenly he’s cut off by the rest of them yelling “we know!”
you never snap at him because you kinda... enjoy the attention
maybe thats how you knew you kinda liked him too, since you could never let sunoo get away with this if he ever called for your name in class
your relationship only stopped there for a while, since the two of you lowkey scared of each other
“no i feel like y/n’s gonna snap at you one day, like completely just punch you in the face” jay once told him and ever since, he’s never looked at you the same
you think heeseung’s just intimidating, the amount of times you’ve jumped in your seat whenever he’s called your name is numerous
although, one day you fell asleep in class due to the fact you left your english essay last minute the night before
heeseung, noticing you drooling on the table, wrote down the notes for you
he handed them to you after class and you were so touched that you couldn’t stop telling sunoo about it
“his hand writing’s so neat and—” “i get it, you can shut up now!”
you even told heeseung his hand writing was the prettiest thing you’ve ever seen for a week straight
he was happy of course, but honestly unsure how he was supposed to reply to the compliment
he figured out by himself that all he needed to do was ask you if you wanted him to write your name
“heeseung, i mean it! i can’t get over how you write ‘the’, it’s just so— so neat!” “oh really? let me write your name out”
being the smooth guy that he was, wrote down his number instead of your name
and you being the oblivious person you were, ended up being utterly confused
“heeseung i think—” “I WROTE MY NUMBER ON PURPOSE”
you never really got over the shock, nonetheless still took his number and texted him that night
you ended that night by kicking your feet in the air with your face feeling like it was on fire
oh, you also ended up planning a date with heeseung on saturday, not a big deal
it was actually the biggest deal ever
the rest of the head canons are under the cut!
⌗ jay
jay was 100% the type to tease someone when he had a crush to get their attention
he wanted all your attention and the way he got that was through telling you your portrait of a dog looked stupid
well yeah, it did but he didn’t need to point it out
everyone in your art class knew jay had a raging crush on you
he just didn’t know how to express it
his friend jake told him the way into your heart was talking about a mutual interest
jake was, sort of, right about his advice. well, until you and jay started bickering about a character you loved but he oh so hated
“mabel in gravity falls was annoying and weird” “jay if you say that one more time i will shove this paint brush down your throat”
jake, who was trying to play cupid, could not understand why he was so bad at this
i mean jay had no problem getting girls to like him but you? did you genuinely hate jay or something?
“no jake i don’t hate jay” well that answered his question
“he’s just weird” “weird? i’m weird?” “yeah do i need to repeat it again? park jay is weird” you two were a match made in heaven
jay didn’t know when but he had a revelation, maybe this wasn’t the approach he should take to get your attention
after that, he started to be extremely nice to you
it definitely scared you
“d-did i do anything?” “what no? i’m just saying your painting looks beautiful y/n” “oh no something’s definitely going to happen”
he was finally tired of trying so hard while ending up with nothing achieved
jake, being the one out of the two who had the most realistic ideas, decided to give him one more tip
“do you think it’ll work?” “it’s fool proof”
the tip was simply him asking you out to the movies, something that was a little too forward for jay
“no i don’t think it’ll work jake” “jay i swear to god you are going to end up single For the Rest of your Life”
it took... many attempts... and many insults towards you for him to even get the first line out
“Y/NPLEASEGOTOTHEMOVIESWITHME” “the movies? sure” “wait, really? i meant it in a romantic way by the way” “oh? sure i’m free on friday”
turns out you were into him too i mean it was kinda obvious from the way you dealt with those insults
even when you started dating after that date, the insults never stopped
it just now targeted jake, who really is just asking for it at this point from the amount of times he’s asked for credit for ‘getting both of you together’
he was never getting that credit
⌗ jake
jake would leave secret love letters in your locker every time he walked past it
i mean the action wasn’t as secret as he thought it was due to the fact you knew he was the one leaving those letters
for god’s sake the boy was literally in almost all your classes, you were walking the same way as him when he slipped those letters in???
you still were very grateful for them
without them, i think you would of not coped with school
they were all incredibly detailed and even had little doodles drawn around them
you once had remembered he mentioned that he wrote these in the morning before school started during first period
he also told you he was really really shy you found it incredibly cute
the only way he could speak to you without melting was through these letters
somehow you decided that the best thing to do was put replies in his lockers too
his first reaction was complete embarrassment, the fact you knew who he was had his face heating up like nothing else
but he soon realised you didn’t think it was weird or creepy, you actually looked forward to his letters every school day
he mustered up so much courage after that to talk to you in person, to personally thank you
“THANK YOU Y/N!” “NO IT’S FINE JAKE YOU DON’T HAVE TO BOW”
he sheepishly rubs the back of his neck before pulling something out from his back pocket
the final letter in his series of love letters showing up in his hands
“open it” his shy smile making your brain Melt in endearment
the letter contained the usual, the hello y/n! and the usual chatter about his day
what you didn’t expect was the fact he had asked you out at the bottom of the letter
“y/n i’ve liked you for a while now, will you go out with me?” you read out loud before realising what you had just read. “OH MY GOD YOU ASKED ME OUT?”
you pull him into a tight hug, something that jake heated up at
“is this a yes?” “are you seriously asking that right now? of course we are”
you two became the most sickly sweet couple ever
plus the fact you still placed letters in each other’s lockers made enhypen gag (in an affectionate way)
they were just jealous nobody was putting letters in their lockers
⌗ sunghoon
sunghoon always seemed to be there whenever you needed help
especially since you two helped out at the library together every wednesday
he looked forward to it every week, you could tell from the fact ever tuesday he’d remind his friends that the next day he was seeing you again
“tomorrow’s wednesday you know what that means” “yes sunghoon we know, you’re seeing y/n tomorrow”
whenever he’s finished his work (which he does at an incredibly fast pace) he always seems to end up trailing you
constantly asking if you need help, desperate to do something
you find it endearing, always ending up chuckling at his whiney words
“y/n! do you need any help i’m finished” “not at the moment but if you wanna chat i can!”
out of all the enhypen members i feel like sunghoon would have the softest feelings for his crush
like even outside of your assigned library work, he’d constantly check up on you during lunch
“here y/n! it’s a packet of those gummies you like” “how sweet that you remembered! thanks for them”
you, even with sunghoon’s constant affection, couldn’t realise he had a crush on you
you thought that he was like that with everyone, you didn’t think that you were particularly special to get any type of unique treatment from park sunghoon
it wasn’t until your classmate asked you if you and sunghoon were dating
“hey are you and sunghoon dating?” “ummmm no why” “oh my friend wanted to know, they like him that’s why”
that didn’t sit well with you.
you thought long and hard about it but there was literally no reason for you to be bothered about it
i mean? you didn’t like him like that right
wrong
you decided to ask his dearest friend heeseung for help
“heeseung what do i do why do i feel like this” “i don’t know ask sunghoon” “...you aren’t helping”
heeseung being the big blabber mouth he is, told sunghoon all of this
“y/n won’t shut up about you” “really? you’re telling me the truth right? please don’t lie to me”
from many many uplifting comments from his friends, sunghoon was able to talk to you without mentioning the library
“so... what did you do in art class today?” “oh? i don’t do art” i mean at least he tried
after a few attempts he finally hit the nail on the head, securing his place as one of your friend... not the position he was aiming for but at least it was something
that’s when he prepared himself for the final boss (that’s what heeseung called the plan)
interrupting the conversation you both had on what disney show was the best, he popped the big question
“no but mulan was pretty good too also do you wanna go on a date with me” “oh sure! that was really random though”
i mean his timing was incredibly terrible but you were over the moon
even with the calm messages the both of you had sent, the two of you were screaming at your screen, unable to contain any composure
i mean it’s sunghoon... even if he handed you a piece of trash to as his way of asking you out you’d still say yes
⌗ sunoo
no but sunoo definitely asks your friend what your favourite song is and puts it on his story so you can slide up and be like “omg!! i love this song”
OH he also texts you randomly at 11:11 and 22:22 so you think it’s a sign
he so so so desperately wants your attention all the time
he goes up to you at lunch even when you’re with all your friends and makes conversation with you making you forget all about your friends
he sits in front of you in maths! so he knows how bad you are at the subject, he can hear your muttering about how you got a question wrong every morning but don’t Worry! he finds it adorable for some reason
at first he started to pretend he wouldn’t understand a question so he could find a way to talk to you
“hey y/n! what’s six times five again” “are you serious?”
he’s actually kinda good at maths so you’re always confused on how he doesn’t understand basic multiplication but can get 90% on the algebra test
he loves, and i mean loves, talking to you during class
even if the teacher scolds him he doesn’t care, it’s simply the highlight of his day
he gets so pouty and jealous when you excuse him in the middle of a conversation to talk to someone else
he gets jealous especially whenever you talk to his friends instead of him
“hey ni-ki! what did you get for number five?” “oh i got—” “I GOT TWELVE FOR THAT ONE Y/N!”
you kinda adore it not gonna lie
at one point your teacher got incredibly fed up with you two talking class
so! sunoo resorted to passing notes to you
‘y/n did you hear? oh my god, jihan from the maths class beside us told me that yeojin from the year above us got suspended because she started fighting the teacher over her phone. can you believe that? i mean i would of done the same thing’
it was quite clear sunoo talked a lot even through notes too
i mean as if you didn’t reply with the same energy
‘I HEARD THAT TOO!! gowon from her class told me, plus! intak said he saw the whole thing too... omg honestly i think yeojin’s so cool for doing that. maybe i should fight our maths teacher if they try and yell at us for talking again?’
they were one of the many things sunoo loves you for <3
one day ni-ki, being the number one shipper of you two, decides to play Cupid on the two of you
he drew out a note that looked too similarly to a middle school confession text and placed it on sunoo’s desk
“do you like me y/n... tick one. yes. no.” “do you like it?” “what the fuck is this”
i mean sunoo Took it anyways, he knew you’d find it funny too
as usual, you prepared yourself for a long class of sliding notes to each other
you looked forward to it, you found it as a source of entertainment and you liked talking to sunoo anyways
“pssst, y/n!” “thanks— wait did you give me the right one?”
after many whisper shouts and glares from your teacher, he finally convinced you that they were the real deal
obviously. You chose yes
that’s how you landed a date with sunoo to a picnic at han river
sunoo and you were. Kinda.... thankful for ni-ki
you two just never wanted to admit his stupid cupid-ry worked
⌗ jungwon
definitely the type to ask you “what homework did we get?” so he can start a conversation with you
replies to your private story with like “omg that’s so funny” or like “PLSSSSS me too”
you do exactly the same with his ps honestly
he always talks to you before class and you have heated discussions about the homework the night before
YOU ALWAYS ALWAYS end up sitting beside him in every class you have together
like it’s not even on purpose anymore (it’s actually fate)
always lends you pens and pencils when you forget them
he also never Asks for them back so you Have like a stash of them at home beside your bed because you always forget to give them back to him
you and jungwon are the kids in pe class that walk around the track gossiping
“jake told me that half of the soccer team aren’t getting along these days because they all like the same person” “no way really? what about their team work, isn’t there some sort of huge match next week?”
the gossip only stays between you two but only ever during pe
you two talk about more, interesting things outside of pe
since you two are in basically every class together, you walk with him everywhere
once when you were about to trip over, jungwon caught you and when you realised you were in his arms, you just blankly stared at him for a good five seconds
once you got off of him your face started to heat up so fast jungwon’s too
every time you have homework due and you didn’t do it he lends you his word
“y/n take this! it’s the french homework from last class” “thanks so much jungwon!”
the real story starts with when you and him were practicing speaking french in the library
you, being terrible at french, needed some sort of help with this
jungwon decided that, even though he completely sucks at french, he should tutor you!
and there you were, ten reasons why i hate you style, in the library struggling on how to pronounce beaucoup
“bow-cewp” “good job y/n!” “jungwon i know for a fact that you don’t know if i’m saying this right”
you stuck up with it because, well because he’s jungwon
“je t'aime you”
i mean you were Terrible. at french but even the stupidest person in the world could figure that out
“i like you too jungwon, now help me with question six” “YOU COULD UNDERSTAND THAT?” “i had a paris phase when i was younger of course i did”
turns out the Parisian style bakery across the street is the perfect date on an afternoon after school
what was even more perfect was that you got 85% on your test with the help of your boyfriend
⌗ ni-ki
he was your partner in cookery class, the both of you had no cooking skills in your bones but you still made it work
you were in the class since your family constantly nagged at you for being terrible in the kitchen
while ni-ki enrolled because he needed the something to show his friends after school
ni-ki thinks he fell for you at first sight
you were baking cookies as your first task and you basically saved him by reminding him to put on oven gloves before getting the cookies out
“that’s the bare minimum” jay tells him. “i don’t care... you wouldn’t know what love feels like”
he looks forward to cooking class because if you every week
he even has it scheduled on his calendar
honestly it’s kind of a miracle the food you two make is some sort of eatable
he always asks you for help even if it’s the simplest thing ever
“y/n? which one is a cup?” “the one that literally says one cup?”
you don’t care though since you think it’s cute
you always end up doing most of the cooking and chopping whil ni-ki just washes the dishes and watches the pot boil which eagerly waits for the food to finish
you’ve met all of enhypen before since ni-ki likes them to gather around your creations and take pictures of them together
when enhypen first collected him from cookery class, they asked him which one of your classmates were you
he literally shyly pointed at you as he hid his face with his hair
“them” “huh? ni-ki who are you pointing at” “them, beside the fridge”
your final exam was to decorate and bake a cake
it’s safe to say from the many burnt cakes you and ni-ki have done, you two were in trouble
you both wanted that passing grade so you practiced almost everyday after classes the week before
he was in charge of the icing, apparently according to him it was his specialty
“look y/n!” “how cute! a little unreadable but very cute”
finally. the Day of the exam came
you both had to prepare and bake the cake together under two hours
you were lucky that you both weighed the ingredients before you arrived
it was definitely. The most stressful two hours you two had ever felt
it also didn’t help that ni-ki shooed you away when he was icing the cake
by the end of it, your face was Dusted with flour while ni-ki’s apron had butter and frosting stains all over it
you were instructed by ni-ki and even your teacher, to stand where the fridge was, out of your sight to see what he was doing to the cake
you were hazily scrolling through your phone when jungwon snapped you back into reality
turns out jungwon was outside the room the whole exam because ni-ki told him he needed support and having him there comforted him
almost instantly after your jungwon interaction, ni-ki called you from your table, excitedly waving his arms in the air
“y/n! y/n! i’m finished!” “perfect! let me—”
your eyes widened realising his cake didn’t say anything like ‘happy birthday’ like you two had planned
instead the icing spelt out a prettily written out ‘y/n, will you go on a date with me?’
your eyes seemed to water at the gesture, unsure why you got so emotional at icing
“n-ni-ki... that’s so c-cute” “why are you crying? oh my god you hate me don’t you?”
it took you ten minutes to stop sobbing (happy tears) and you gladly accepted his proposal
so now you got a Good grade and an amazing boyfriend that can... sort of! Cook
while eating the cake you were reminded with something, remembering some words from earlier
wait did mr lee know about this?

The Mystery Shack Spooks - Part 4
For Holiday Truce 2020
Summary:  Elle Fenton had hoped for a normal summer, a chance to make normal friends with people who know nothing about her crazy family, ghosts, or, most importantly, her status as a clone. But ghosts always seem to find her, even in Gravity Falls. Now the Mystery Shack is haunted by a unknown apparition with an unknown connection to Dipper and Mabel, and to Elle herself. The half ghost struggles to open up to her new friends and to find a way to help this lonely ghost.
Part 1 -> Part 2 -> Part 3 -> Part 4(Here) -> Part 5
Also on AO3 and fanfiction.net
Note:
Did I say this was going to be the last chapter? Ops....well I wrote what was supposed to be the last chapter and it ended up super long so I cut it in half. I'm posting the first part and once I edit the rest, I'll post the actual end in a few days.
Also, I really need a proper name for this story. So if anyone has any idea or suggestions, I'll take them. If anyone comes up with something that I ended up using, I'll be sure to credit them.
Finally, happy reading!
Her mind was anything but silent. Her brain swarmed with thoughts, throughout a quiet dinner and half-hearted attempt at board games (unsurprisingly the twins weren't enthusiastic after that sobering encounter). Long past the time she should be asleep, the half ghost found herself staring at the ceiling, her thoughts drifting. She sighed, her heart still clenching with guilt- over not telling Dipper and Mabel about Tyrone and about her status as a clone. But if she could find some way so that the twins could see and hear the other ghosts or if Tyrone would show up so they could brainstorm…..
With a huff, Elle sat up. She wasn’t going to get to sleep anytime soon, not like this, and she was getting sick of staring at the ceiling. Maybe she should go flying or sit on the roof for a bit. With barely a thought, she triggered her core to transform and floated off the bed. She flew through the roof, pausing as the light of the moon fell on her face. She let out a breath, sitting down on the ledge of the roof. The view really was beautiful; maybe she’d wait and watch the stars.
Some time passed as she looked at the sky and tried (and failed) to not worry about Tyrone. Then a creak sounded behind her. Elle turned, finding a familiar boy behind her. With the moonlight, he almost glowed ethereally; for a moment she thought he was-
“What are you doing up here?” He asked, voice without even a hint of echo.
Elle frowned. “ Dipper, it’s you.”
“Yeah, It’s me.” He looked at her strangely, repeating. “What are you doing up here?”
The girl blushed. “Oh, I was just...I was...thinking about our ghostly friend.”
“Oh…” His confused expression bled into something sad. “You’re trying to figure out who he is?”
Elle bit her lip, debating. She knew who the ghost was but she couldn’t exactly tell her friend; Tyrone had begged her not too. She sighed. “I’m thinking about how we can help him. If you and Mabel could see him...or if I could actually talk to him….”
“Oh yeah…” Dipper huffed, coming to sit beside her. “I barely thought about him today.” He looked down, guiltily.
“We'll figure something out.” Elle said half heartedly. “But anyway, what’s got you up?”
The boy sighed, studying a particular spot on the roof. He glanced at her cautiously. “Can I...can I tell you something?”
The half ghost blinked, startled by the question or really, by his attitude. He looked uncharacteristically upset. About the ghost haunting the Shack maybe? After a moment, she answered. “Yeah?”
“I keep thinking about… I keep thinking about….Tyrone.” He whispered.
Elle tilted her head, not expecting that. She was really, really not expecting that. It was like...it came from nowhere. But maybe he’d realized -
“You have?” She asked, part hopeful and part cautious.
Dipper nodded. “Since we told you about the copier and you said...what you said, that Tyrone was my clone but maybe not actually me….” Nervously, he picked at his nails. “That keeps...ringing in my head. I can’t stop thinking about it and about what happened to him and…” He trailed off.
“Oh” The girl bit her lip, suddenly guilty. “I’m sorry. I’m sorry I brought that up.”
Dipper shook his head. “No, don’t be. You….you made me realize I miss him. I’ve missed him so much this year. But...I didn’t understand that that was what I was feeling or why. I mean….the two of us…we were so in sync, really the perfect team. We thought the same, like we were really the same person and….no one understood me like he did.” He looked down at the last part. “But….I kept replaying that idea, what you said, in my head and….” His voice quieted, turning pained. “I don’t…I don’t know how I didn’t see it then but…there was something different about him, compared to the others. And not just ‘cause Tyrone had a name but….the two of us actually talked and came up with the plan to dance with Wendy together. I didn’t really talk to the others, just told them what to do and they did it. And…” He laughed humorlessly. “Tyrone’s the one who got mad at me for not following our plan and the other clones just followed when he locked me in the closet.” He shook his head, a fond smile on his face. “The doofus left me snacks and a coloring book in there in case I got bored or hungry. And…Tyrone figured out how to escape the sprinklers.” He clenched his shaking fists, taking a deep breath. “There was…a light in his eyes, a spark that just wasn’t in the others. And I…how didn’t I see it?”
The girl startled at the words, the honesty. She reached out to comfort. “It’s okay.”
“No it’s just.” He ripped his arm away. “For the past…for the past year, I told myself that he wasn’t real. That missing him was ridiculous and narcissistic and the only reason I did was because I didn’t have any friends other than my sister. But….” His voice broke. “He was real, wasn’t he? Tyrone was a real, actual person. And…he’s not melted, he’s dead. He’s dead. And it’s my fault because I made him in the first place. And I gave him that freaking pit cola and just watched it happen. I’m the only one who even knew him and I haven’t even mourned, because I thought he didn’t deserve it because he wasn’t real.”
Dipper wrapped his arms around his knees. To Elle’s surprise, he’d started crying at some point. The girl shifted slightly, before tentatively putting one arm around him. Her heart ached as she let him cry. But she said nothing, too stunned to force any words out. She had...she had no idea he actually listened and thought about her words. But he had. Dipper had taken them to heart and now he was mourning and… He knew Tyrone was someone, a real person. Her heart skipped a beating, remembering the ghostly clone’s broken words. Just a copy. What will they think of me? What would they think…. Well, Elle didn’t know about Mabel but Dipper….Dipper saw his personhood, his potential. Her eyes widened; she had to tell-
The boy started talking, cutting off her thoughts. He sniffled. “But yeah, sorry to dump that on you. It’s not your fault but…I keep thinking about him, especially since...earlier...I thought I saw...”
Elle gasped, just managing to squeak out. “You saw...?”
Dipper swallowed. “I think...I think...I..I had this dream where Tyrone was floating over my bed. He was crying and….” His voice choked. “He begged me to see him and talk to him. And I could see him but….I was frozen. I couldn’t move, couldn’t talk. Then I woke up and I remembered that it happened a year ago.”
“It…? A year ago?” The half ghost would blush at her parroting if she wasn’t busy freaking out.
“A year ago.” The boy nodded. “ I used...I used that freaking copier and somehow it made Tyrone.” A sickly smile covered his face. “He’d be a year old now if….” His expression flipped, turning into a hateful sneer. “If I hadn’t killed him a f-cking can of Pit Soda. Instead he’s dead so yeah, happy DeathDay Tyrone.”
With that, the boy roughly pulled away from her and tightly clenched his fists. He looked like he wanted to scream or hit something, his shoulders tense with self-directed anger. Beside him, Elle was frozen, her mind short circuiting. Tyrone…how…why…could he really…did he really…. Her blood ran cold. Dipper actually saw him earlier. She had no idea how, when he hadn’t been able to last night. But he must have; there was no other way. But he thought it was a dream, a fantasy or a nightmare conjured by his unconscious mind. He hadn’t realized it was real, meaning….
Her core flickered with her anxiety, ice flowing through her veins.
Dipper shivered. “It’s cold. Elle, is that you? Or is our ghost friend here?”
No, their ghost friend, Dipper’s clone, Tyrone was not here. Because he was downstairs thinking that Dipper just saw him as a copy, not worth mourning. But…
“Elle?” The boy ventured.
Cold pulsed from the half ghost’s core as her mind continued to race. She had...She had to tell him, to tell Dipper that Tyrone wasn’t gone. He wasn’t...well he was still dead but he was still here. The two of them still had a chance. But...she bit her lip. She’d told Tyrone she wouldn’t; she couldn’t break his trust now. But….with all she’d told Dipper, with how Dipper just poured out his heart, how can she remain silent about this? But...she promised the other ghost. The girl felt torn in two directions by the choice.
“I need to find him.” She suddenly spat out.
“Who?” Dipper blinked at her.
Elle ignored as ice crept across the roof tiles. She ran fingers through her hair. “We need to talk. Maybe...maybe...I can convince him and We’ll-”
The other teen cut her off. “Elle?! What are you talking about?”
Her mouth snapped shut as she blushed in embarrassment and shame. “I...I’m sorry. The...the Shack’s ghost...I...I promised him...I can’t tell you.”
Dipper glared, open mouthed. “But-”
Elle didn’t hear the rest of his plea as she flickered invisible and phased through the roof.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Moments later, Elle phased through the roof of her room. "Tyrone!" She called, hopefully. He had to be here. "Tyrone!" The half ghost tried again, to silence. "Please, we need to talk. I think...I think Dipper saw you tonight but he thinks it was a dream. If we just...if I just tell him, then-"
Tyrone's sudden appearance cut off her words. His eyes were wide, brow wrinkled with shock and worry.
Elle sighed in relief anyway. "You're here! I was worried." She shook her head. "Anyway. I need to tell Dipper about you."
The ghostly clone's eyes widen even more. He wavered backwards, waving his hands. No. For once, the static was clear.
"Please Ty. I can't… I can't keep lying to Dipper and Mabel. Plus …." Her pleading tone shifted into something more hopeful. "He told me some things today. And….he'd be so happy to know you're here."
Tyrone looked doubtful. His mouth opened to argue but then, the door burst open.
Gasping, the half ghost jumped back as Dipper barged in.
“Elle!” He exclaimed. “What are you-” The boy cut himself off, eyes widening.
The girl’s brow wrinkled for a moment in confusion; he’d probably come down here to figure out why she ran off so why-
“I must be dreaming.” Dipper muttered, voice shaking. “There’s no way. This isn’t...it’s not...it’s not real.” He furiously shook his head. “No. He’s...he’s not…”
The half ghost felt her heart stop, her blood run cold. Slowly her eyes drifted from the living boy in front of the door and to his ghostly double.
Tyrone’s jaw dropped in shock. He wavered forward in the air, eyes pinned in the other boy. A long moment later, his voice warbled with static.
“No. You’re not...you’re not here.” Dipper choked. “I..I killed you.”
The living boy was shaking, looking like he would collapse or flee from the room. All the while, he stared at the misty form of his ghostly clone. More static cracked as the ghost boy tried to speak again, reaching forward.
Dipper pinched his eyes closed. “I’m just dreaming...You’re not real.”
With that Elle’s mind finally caught up. “No Dipper, he’s here…” She swallowed. “I can see him too.”
The human boy’s head whipped up. With wide eyes, he whispered. “What?”
“I can see him too. He’s real.” The half ghost said, pleadingly.
“He’s….?” Dipper’s breath caught in his throat, hope leaking into his voice. With shakingly legs, he stumbled towards the other boy.
At the same time, the ghost boy floated forward again, tentatively. He stopped, only a foot away so the two were eye to eye. It was strangely similar to last night, except…..this time Dipper’s eyes knowingly fell on the figure in front of him.
“Tyrone?” He asked, his voice quivering with a dozen emotions but paramount was hope.
The other boy nodded, slowly cracking a smile. Hey, Dipper.
“Tyrone. You’re...you’re here. You’re real.” The boy sounded like he could hardly believe the words coming out of his mouth.
The ghost boy nodded eagerly. “Yes...I’m here.”
That seemed to encourage Dipper. “You’re here. You’re actually here! I…” His eyes started watering with joy. “I missed you so much. I-”
He moved to wrap his arms around the other boy but his arms passed right through the insubstantial figure. Dipper shivered and tried again, brow furrowing. A third time gave the same result, making the living boy’s lip quiver. “Why can’t...why can’t I touch you?”
Tyrone whimpered, a grieved muttering exiting his mouth as he tried to return the hug.
Dipper stopped, rapidly stepping back. “I can’t….I don’t understand what you’re saying.”
The ghostly clone tried again but his words just sounded as a cacophony of desperate static.
The living boy’s eyes widened and he started tearing up. “Tyrone. I don’t know what you’re saying.”
Distressingly, the statement just seemed to make the ghost boy more upset. Tyrone reached forward, hand again going through Dipper’s. His lip trembled.
The other boy sniffled. “I...I’m sorry.” His eyes trailed down the semi-translucent body. “I can’t touch you or understand you or….” A tear fell down Dipper’s face “I still don’t know how to help you….”
Dipper trailed off, shoulders starting to shake. Again, Tyrone reached forward but paused before actually reaching for the other boy’s hand. He swallowed, a look of concentration covering his face. The color of his hand shifted, the limb losing some of its transparency. Then he took Dipper’s hand in his.
The living boy’s eyes widened. “I can...I can feel that.” He sounded awed.
The ghost nodded, pinching his eyes closed. “We’ll figure this out….together.”
Something in the statement bolstered the other boy. He half-smiled, despite his still watering eyes. “Yeah. Together.”
There was a pause. Then the ghost asked. “You….you missed me?”
Dipper nodded. “Yeah.” He whipped his wet face with his free hand. “I missed you so much, man.”
Tyrone squeezed the hand he was holding. “I missed you too.”
“You did?” The other boy said, part disbelieving and part hopeful.
The ghost nodded enthusiastically.
Dipper swallowed. “I’m sorry...I’m sorry about everything that happened. For using you and the others like that, for….melting you. For…” He took a deep breath. “For not seeing that you were real, back then.”
The ghost’s image flickered, his hand falling through Dipper’s as his mouth fell open. After a long moment, he shook his head and said something that was lost in static.
The corner of the other boy’s mouth twitched down at his lack of understanding.
Then Tyrone tried to speak again, his brow furrowed in concentration. “Real?”
“Yes. Of course, you’re real.” Dipper frowned, looking down. “Maybe if I’d understood that then, you’d still be here in the flesh.” He bit his lip. “Or whatever you call enchanted paper and ink.”
The ghostly clone's eyes remained wide, taking in what the other boy had said for a long while. Eventually his shock faded into a soft hope, his gaze kind. “But...we have another chance now, right?”
Dipper looked up. Slowly, the corner of his lip turned up. “Yeah. I guess we do.”
The ghost’s staticy voice buzzed in agreement. There was a silence for a while as the two boys just looked at each other. Not staring at each other in shock or disbelief. Not with judgement or scorn. But with soft happiness and wonder. Pure joy at being reunited shined in the pair’s tear-filled eyes. The two stepped forward in sync, Dipper’s arms wrapping around the cold mist of Tyrone’s chest and the ghost’s insubstantial arms returning the favor. It wasn’t quite a hug but a close approximation. As close as the living boy and his double could get when Tyrone remained unable to become fully solid and Dipper couldn’t turn intangible.
“I can still barely believe this is happening.” Dipper was saying softly. “So much has happened since...you know. I should probably tell you about it… if you want.”
The ghost boy nodded eagerly, muttering something in static.
Meanwhile, Elle shuffled awkwardly as she watched the tender scene. She bit her lip. A large part of her was overjoyed to see Dipper and Tyrone reunited but at the same time…it felt like she was spying on something intimate. This moment belonged to the two boys in front of her, for them to reconnect as best they could and to figure out who and what they were to each other.
She averted her eyes and coughed softly. “Uhh...sorry to interrupt. I’m gonna…” She jabbed her thumb towards the door.
Both boys turned to look at her. Dipper’s eyes widened as he stepped out of the semi-hug. “Oh….we’re in your room. We can uh….” He glanced at Tyrone. “We can go somewhere else to talk. Maybe the roof?”
The ghostly clone shrugged, mouthing. ‘Sure’. He floated up, pointing to himself and then towards the ceiling. He then pointed at Dipper and to the door.
The other boy nodded in understanding. “I can meet you up there.” Then he bit his lip nervously, looking between Tyrone and the door.
The ghost frowned, his lips moving to form the question. ‘What?”
His original blushed. “I...I’m kinda scared to let you out of my sight. Like...you’ll disappear again….”
Tyrone’s face softened. He floated back down. With some concentration, he grabbed Dipper’s wrists and started leading him towards the door.
“Hey. What are you...?” The living boy asked. “Oh...we’ll go together.”
The clone nodded. Then he paused in front of Elle. His lips turned up into a bright smile. ‘Thank you.’ He mouthed, his eyes shining such incredible gratitude.
“Yeah, thank you.” Dipper nodded, agreeing. “I don’t know what would have happened if you hadn’t been here.” His shoulders rose somewhat sheepishly.
The half ghost gave him a comforting smile. “No problem. Of course I’d be here and...I’m really happy you guys found each other.”
Both boys nodded. Then Dipper opened the door. Cautiously, he poked his head out and looked both ways down the hallway. He looked back at his ghostly double and waved him forward. “Come on Ty.”
Elle watched the two walk and float down the hall, towards the stairs to the attic. Soon, the pair were out of sight and the girl closed the door.
With a sigh, the halfa returned to human form and sat down on her bed. Elle smiled. She meant what she said; she was ecstatic to see Dipper and Tyrone reunited, though she hadn’t imagined it going like that. None of the scenarios that had crossed her mind featured Dipper barging in. Granted…. after running off on him, the half ghost really shouldn’t have been surprised that he came after her. But Dipper had. He’d barged in, saw Tyrone, and the two- original and clone- had been tearfully reunited.
Speaking of original….the girl reached for her phone, smiling as her lockscreen picture of her, Danny, and Jazz popped up. She suddenly wanted to talk to her brother, to tell him about everything that happened. But...it was pretty late and with the different time zone, it was even later in Amity. But then again knowing Danny, there was a large chance he was still awake playing Doomed.
Without anymore debate, Elle dialed his number. On the third ring, her brother picked up.
“Hello?” He asked, sleepily.
“Hey Danny. It’s Elle. Did I wake you up?” She blushed, suddenly guilty.
“Nah. Just logged off Doomed.” He yawned. “Wait...Elle?” Worry entered his voice, making him sound more awake. “Are you okay?”
“Yeah. I’m fine. I just wanted to talk to you.” She bit her lip. “Sorry. I should’ve just waited ‘til the morning.”
“It’s fine.” He said sincerely. “Just tell me what you’re thinking.”
Elle sighed. “So….I found out who the Shack’s ghost is and he’s Dipper’s clone, Tyrone.”
There was a pause. “What?” Danny asked with mild confusion.
“The ghost that’s been haunting the Mystery Shack is Tyrone. I actually saw his face this morning and talked to him.”
“Well, that’s unexpected.” The boy said, shock on his voice.
“Yeah. I can barely believe it but it’s really him. Oh and Dipper found out literally ten minutes ago; he barged in and saw Tyrone when the two of us were talking.”
"Oh, wow …..how did both of them take it?"
Elle smiled. "Really good. They went up to the roof to talk. I think you both really missed each other."
"I can imagine." Danny said knowingly. "They must be really happy to see each other." Then his voice turned sober. "And Dipper saw him die, didn't he? Losing Tyrone like that must have been horrible."The boy swallowed and Elle could imagine his pained frown. But then his tone became something more hopeful. "But finding out that he's not gone, finally getting him back. Dipper must be so happy."
"He is." The corner of her mouth turned up. "And I guess we both understand that."
"Yeah." Again, Danny sounded so certain, so knowing. And Elle understood it completely. How could she not when she and Danny had come so close to being in the same situation?
The half ghost girl remembered the older boy's face as her body fell apart, as she destabilized. She'd been terrified but at the same time hopeful as he dashed in with a solution. But then it hadn't worked. She watched as devastation overtook his features as he pleaded for her to hang on. She'd tried, equally devastated, equally desperate not to die.
She'd blacked out, an unseeing, unfeeling, unknowing puddle. For a moment, it was like she was gone, like she didn’t exist at all. And then suddenly she was back. She had eyes again. She had a head, hands, feet, a body. For a long moment, she blinked slowly realizing she still existed.
Then her eyes had fallen on Danny, her original, her cousin, her brother. She hadn't dared to even consider that yet. She'd barely been able to think he might see her as anything more than a copy, that he might even love her. But Danny was on his knees, his eyes fixed down. He was crying, muttering apologizes through his sobs.
Elle had floated from the floor. She'd quipped something stupid in a effort to cover how freaked out as she disbelieving shock turned into relieved happiness. She'd back flipped in her elation, her eyes falling on the older half ghost as he whipped around. And-
"You were really happy at Vlad's when I...uhh.. when you saved me with that ecto dejecto."
His eyes had shone with relief as he rushed forward to embrace her. He’d squeezed her in his arms, holding her tight like she was precious. Together, they'd shared a moment of pure joy, relief, and love.
Across the line, the boy swallowed. "Of course I was happy. I thought I'd lost you, El."
"But you didn't." The girl said softly. "It turned out okay."
"Yeah, it did." Something in Elle's tone seemed to bolster the other halfa. "Man...we've both really come a long way since then, huhh?"
“We have.” The girl nodded, remembering her conversation with the twins this afternoon about what she and Danny had been through. “You told our parents about your powers. I started going to school.” She chuckled, then her voice turned more serious. “And I actually have a home and family now. I’ve got Mom and Dad and Jazz and...You. You know... you’re a good big brother.”
“Aw, Elle?” The boy’s voice ticked up teasingly. “Are you getting all mushy on me?”
The other half ghost gasped. “I’m being serious! I was gonna say, you’re a really supportive and understanding big bro. And thank you for encouraging me to talk to Dipper and Mabel.”  She crossed her arms, only somewhat mock offended. “But I guess that’s too mushy for you.”
There was a pause as the boy took in the words. When he finally spoke, there was no teasing in his voice but sincerity. “No, sis. It’s...it’s not too mushy. It’s...sweet, I guess.” Elle could hear the smile in his voice. “And you’re a good sister too. I’m really happy to have you in my life.”
“Oh. Thanks Danny.” The girl blushed at the compliment.
The older boy chuckled. “See, I can be mushy too.” Then his tone sobered somewhat. “So you talked to your friends?”
“Yeah, I did. Earlier today actually, before Dipper found out about Tyrone. I told him and Mabel about me being half ghost.” She smiled. “They took it really well.”
“They did?” Danny sounded happy and relieved. “That’s great, Elle.”
“Yeah. We had a snowball fight and everything after I showed off my ice powers.” She chuckled. “I felt a lot better after telling them everything.” Elle frowned, realizing what she said. "Well...almost everything."
"Oh?" Danny asked, wordlessly prompting her to continue.
"I...uhh….haven't actually told them I'm a clone yet."
"You haven't?"
The younger half ghost shook her head. "No but….I think I'll tell them in the morning."
"Really? Why now?"
"Just….some of the stuff Dipper said about Tyrone and how he reacted to seeing him again." She swallowed. "You and Jazz were right; they're not gonna think any less of me if they know the whole truth."
“Wow….I'm proud of you. And good luck with that. I'm sure it'll be great."
"Thanks Danny." She smiled.
"No problem." The boy sighed. “Man, a lot’s happened since we talked yesterday.”
“Yep. I told Dipper and Mabel that the Shack was haunted. I tried to introduce them to Tyrone when he showed up yesterday...I mean, I didn’t know it was him last night….. But the twins couldn’t see him.”
“Wait…” Danny cut in. “You said that Dipper saw him, like literally could see Tyrone earlier tonight.”
“Yeah I….did.” Elle’s eyes widened. “You’re totally right, I did say that.” She put a hand on her forehead. “I hadn’t even realized. Dipper literally couldn’t see him at all yesterday but now he can. So how does that work?” She started rambling. “Wait...I couldn’t really see him yesterday either. He just kinda looked like a shadow or a cloud. So why could I suddenly see him this morning? I mean...yeah, I worked out Ty’s name so maybe that’s why….but Dipper didn’t have a clue. He just barged in the room unannounced.” At some point, the girl had flopped back down onto the bed. She huffed, contemplatively.
Across the line, Danny hummed in thought. “Well, what changed?”
“What changed?” The other half ghost muttered quietly. What changed? Well, yes, she and Dipper had talked about Tyrone but as far as she could tell, Dipper’s opinion hadn’t actually changed. And somehow the boy had seen the ghostly clone earlier when he was half asleep. But….
Elle’s brow furrowed, remembering something Dipper had said earlier. “It’s been a year...” She muttered.
“What?” Her brother questioned.
Her eyes widened, realizing the older teen was still listening. “Dipper told me earlier that it's been a year since Tyrone...well...died.”
“And traditional ghosts tend to be stronger on the anniversary of their death. Don’t they?” The boy asked.
Elle nodded. “Right. And that’s probably why he’s visible and not just to me. But still...” She sighed, remembering Dipper’s reaction to being unable to touch and understand Tyrone. “Tyrone’s still stuck intangible and almost everything he says comes out as static. I wish I could figure out how to help him.”
Again, her brother hummed in thought. “Huh…. What if you got him some ectoplasm?”
Elle suddenly sat up, hitting her forehead with her palm. “Of course! Why didn’t I think of that?” She stood up and grabbed for one of her bags. “I have ectoplasm. My supplements.” The girl frowned. “Letting him have a few should be okay, right?”
“I think so...it’s not like ectoplasm can hurt a ghost. And if I know Mom, she packeted you like half a year's worth. You should have plenty.” Humor rang in his voice. “And I won’t tell Mom and Dad if you won’t.”
“Yeah, I won’t.” Elle laughed. “I’ll tell Tyrone and Dipper about that idea in the morning  and see what they think.”
“And let me know how it goes, okay?”
The girl nodded. “Yeah, of course.” She yawned. “We should both get some sleep though. Talk to you later.”
“Yeah, Love you sis.”
Elle sighed. “Love you bro.” She smiled. “Good night.”
“Night.” With that Danny hung up.
The half ghost girl put her phone away and went to sleep.
Mabel’s All-In-One Guide to Being a Shooting Star: How to Avoid Being Caught and Other Tips You Should Know
Chapter Four: Not Gravity Falls
Whoops I forgot to post it my b you guys
Shoutout to @edward-or-ford and @pacific-ship for being bangs
When I wake up, the dream isn't done, I wanna see your face and know I've made it home. If nothing is true, what more can I do?- All Time Low, Painting Flowers
There was something… off about this Gravity Falls. Which was, of course, to be expected; alternate reality and all that. It wasn’t as different from her Gravity Falls as Not Dipper was from her Dipper, it just… It just felt strange. Like it was just a little bit wrong. It was darker. Everything was darker. She didn’t quite understand why.
She was still somewhat out of it, and walking was a chore. She really missed her bike. Why didn’t she have her bike again? Right, because she’d been abducted by gnomes, and then abducted-slash-rescued by an alternate version of her bro.
He was walking beside her, this alternate Dipper, and there was something different in the way he held himself. Her Dipper was… awkward, for lack of a better word. Adorably so, of course; it was one of the many things that had made her fall in love with him to begin with.
But this version… this version of Dipper walked with an easy sort of confidence Mabel wasn’t used to seeing, not on anybody, or at least not to that degree. He wasn’t awkward. Not even a little. He was sure of himself, perhaps even arrogant. He stood at his full height, not slouching or hunching his shoulders.
He didn’t just walk, either. He strutted, and he didn’t seem to notice when the townspeople (who had all stopped dead in their tracks and were looking at her, slack-jawed and wide-eyed) gave them both an unnecessarily wide berth. He didn’t glance at them, not even briefly to take mental note of their locations in relation to his own. He simply continued on as if they weren’t there, as if they didn’t exist.
They were looking at her with such unmistakable horror that Mabel had to say something.
“Hey,” she murmured at Not Dipper. “What’s the deal with these guys?”
“Hm?” He didn’t appear to have been paying attention to them, so when she voiced her question, he glanced around haphazardly. “Oh, I suppose they might think you’re… the other Mabel.”
“Huh. Weird.” Before she could comment further, her words were cut off.
“Mabel?” came a shocked voice that was almost familiar, but not quite. And when Mabel slowed her pace along the sidewalk and turned her gaze to her right, she found herself looking at a very… well, it was just odd, wasn’t it, almost as odd as Not Dipper’s mannerisms and general Not Dipper-ness. The contrast of these weird versions to the people she knew was lowkey freakin’ her out.
It was… “Pacifica?” It did very much appear to be Pacifica. The girl looked like Pacifica. She had the same face, eyes, and general appearance, but it looked like Pacifica if Pacifica had aged several years and gotten a hippie costume from a Halloween store. Or a Summerween store. Y’know. Whatever.
“You’re, uh… how are you…?” Pacifica was asking, and Mabel still felt a bit wobbly, but she smiled at this strange version of Pacifica all the same.
“Hi!” Mabel greeted with a cheerful wave, sticking her hand out for the other girl to shake. “I’m Mabel, nice to meet ya!” There was murmuring of words from the crowd that Mabel couldn’t hear or understand, and Pacifica was looking at Mabel’s hand like it had a shark’s mouth and the corresponding number of teeth (which was, fun fact, three thousand), and would give her hand similar treatment to that of those teenagers in Jaws.
Realizing Pacifica wasn’t gonna take her hand, Mabel lowered it with a pout. Not Dipper wasn’t looking at her. He’d stopped walking when she had, but he was staring off into space, his expression blank.
“I… I don’t understand,” Pacifica said, eyeing Mabel warily. “How are you… how are you here?”
Suddenly, Mabel remembered: ‘nother universe, concussion, blah blah blah.
“Right!” She snapped her fingers. “Sorry, I totes magoats forgot!” Pacifica (and everyone else) raised their eyebrows at her. “Have a bit of a concussion here,” she explained, knocking on the side of her head. “Yowch, prolly shouldn’t’ve done that. Anyway, the long and short of it is,” she paused for dramatic effect, “I’m from an alternate dimension! Ta-da!” She did jazz hands. Dramatic effect really was important. Essential, even.
“Okay,” Pacifica said slowly, looking immensely confused. “So, how, exactly…” she glanced at Not Dipper, and her eyes widened. “Holy crap, what happened?!” she exclaimed, rushing towards him. “Are you okay? We need to get you to a hospital, ommigod!”
He rolled his eyes, allowing them to land on her. “It’s none of your concern.” His voice was bored, disinterested, like the absolute last thing in the world he wanted to be doing was to be talking to her, and the fact that he was having to was nothing more than an irritating waste of time.
“Worry not, little missy!” Mabel gave her a double thumbs up. “We’re gonna get it taken care of and the not-broseph over here will be a-okay!”
Nobody else said anything. Pacifica was still looking at her nervously. If they thought she was the alternate universe’s Mabel and they were acting like, well, that, then what in the hell had her other self done to them? Dang diggity, they were looking at Not Dipper the same way; what had he done to them?
She glanced at him. He wasn’t looking at Pacifica anymore. He was staring off into space again.
“Um, well, I-“
Pacifca’s nervous stuttering was cut off by Not Dipper sighing, taking Mabel’s hand in his, and pulling her forward again. “Time to go,” he said, not bothering to look over his shoulder.
Had he always been so... apathetic? Mabel wasn’t sure. Her head was still pounding somewhat, and she couldn’t remember suuuuuper clearly, but she was pretty sure he’d been paying attention to her before. In fact, he’d been focused entirely on her, she had thought. But just then, he wasn’t focusing on anything. He’d totally snubbed Pacifica, too!
“Where are we going, exactly?” Mabel asked, doing her best to wave over her shoulder at the bewildered and fearful-looking townspeople as Not Dipper dragged her along behind him, his hand gentle but firm around hers.
“Home,” Not Dipper said simply, as if it were the most obvious thing in the world. Not her home, obviously, but his. Was it her shaken brain, or was his distinct lack of the word ‘my’ weird?
“Not… uh…” she took a moment to collect her thoughts. Stupid concussion. What was that word again? “Not a hospital?”
“Not a hospital,” he agreed.
“O...kay…?”
After several minutes of him walking in strides that were a bit much for Mabel, particularly since she was having difficulty walking at all, he looked over his shoulder at her with one of those stupid stupid stupid grins-
“You seem to be having a bit of trouble there, Mabel dear. You’re quite sure you don’t want me to carry you again?”
“Yes, I’m sure!” She nodded emphatically. But, wait a second. “Again? What do you mean again?”
“Oh,” he glanced over his shoulder at her for a second, as if he’d forgotten he’d mentioned it to begin with. “I carried you earlier. When you were unconscious, you know.”
“R- right,” she stuttered. He’d carried her? How terribly embarrassing. She was far too heavy to be carried, and she was massively uncomfortable with this random version of her twin she loved in a very un-sister-type way knowing that she was far too heavy to be carried. “Thank you for saving me, by the way.”
“Of course,” he said easily. “Though please do try not to get into too much trouble now that you’re here.” He paused for a moment. “I’d hate to see something happen to you.”
“Honestly, the only place weird stuff ever happens to me is Gravity Falls,” she chuckled a bit. Her own need to escape had trapped her in a way, hadn’t it? “I’m probably no safer here than I was in my dimension.”
They’d migrated from sidewalks to dirt walkways along the side of a long, winding road that Mabel couldn’t see the end of.
“You’re safe with me,” he told her firmly. “I won’t let anything happen to you.”
He was pulling her along the dirt path still, the earth and gravel crunching beneath her shoes. It was fairly dark by this point, so the chill of the evening air bit into the bare skin her shorts and loose crop top revealed.
“Sorry for complaining, but like. We’ve been walkin’ for a hot minute here, and I’m not seeing any houses in sight, so I’m just…'' she paused to take a break. Words were hard when one had a concussion. “Just kinda wondering if we’ll ever actually get to your far-far-away abode, y’know?”
“We’re almost there,” he assured her, and she could’ve sworn he squeezed her hand, but she really wasn’t sure. She might’ve imagined it. Actually, she probably imagined it. Almost certainly.
Which, side note, but why was he still holding her hand? They weren’t exactly walking side by side, no, but she was close enough behind him to where he didn’t really need to lead her anywhere.
Before she could formulate the words to question it, however, a wall came into view. A very high wall. Perhaps ten feet? Mabel didn’t know; she’d never been great at math. Sue her. It was stone, it looked like, but it was difficult to tell for certain because it was covered in ivy from top to bottom.
“You see?” He smiled at her slightly. “We’re there.”
The road they were walking beside appeared to end at a very large, ornate wrought iron gate that the wall-slash-fence appeared to house, and beyond that lay a driveway, leading to…
A… castle? It certainly looked like a castle. It was very very tall, and she couldn’t see much, but it definitely looked like a castle.
She sped up her pace a bit so she could match his long strides and poke him lightly on the arm. He looked down at her with mild amusement, it looked like. “Hey, uh…” he raised his eyebrows at her. “Is that where you live?”
“Yes, that’s why we’re here,” he said as if it were obvious. As if anyone living in a goddamn castle in the year of our lord 2019 was an obvious conclusion for somebody to jump to.
She noticed that some of his hair had fallen from its slicked back style and was falling over his birthmark. She wondered what it would look like down. She wondered what it would feel like. She wondered- no no no, bad Mabel, very bad, he’s not your Dipper!
“So…” she trailed off for a second. “Just to be clear, so we’re like, one-hundred-and-ten percent on the same page here, you live in a castle. Have… have I got that right, oooorrrrrr…?”
“If you consider this a castle, then yes, I suppose.” Not Dipper was looking down at her again, and he looked like he found her surprise quite funny. Which she didn’t exactly appreciate, but y’know. Beggars can’t choose their rescuers and all that.
They’d finally reached the gate, and it appeared to have a very large G in very fancy cursive on it.
He pressed his thumb to an electronic pad. The gate creaked open, and he strolled through it, pulling her along after him. It closed again as soon as they went through, and she found herself looking around every way she could without making herself all dizzy again.
They navigated around what appeared to be a hedge maze (that she would later discover was also in the shape of a giant cursive G), and it was several more minutes before they reached the overly tall wooden doors.
It wasn’t until he pushed the door open, taking his hand from hers in the process, that she realized he’d never let go of her hand. He’d been holding it the entire time, and she’d never even noticed.
So. Here goes nothing... (1/?)
(Major spoilers for the comic, but since it won’t update anymore (besides PERHAPS some random comic strips/excerpts without context every now and then, but don’t count on it), I guess it doesn’t matter.)
If you read my answer to the ask posted earlier, you probably know what this post is about. I’ll make a list of every important point I wanted to tackle in the comic, in multiple sections. Be prepared for the long post that awaits you below the cut.
Summary of what was left of Chapter 2
Tumblr media
Following their first appearance at the beginning of the chapter, Lolph and Dundgren try to question Blendin, who is staying at a hospital and is still under intense care. They discuss what exactly happened to Blendin in the first place: he was assigned what was supposed to be a routine mission to solve a minor time anomaly in the 21st century, but his time machine exploded when he tried to operate it and he was gravely injured. Dundgren mentions that any normal time device should hardly cause this much damage when malfunctioning, suggesting that Blendin’s level of incompetence is so incredibly high, it somehow managed to make something that shouldn’t be able to explode blow up in his face. On the other hand, Lolph starts to wonder if, exactly because it should be impossible, the accident may have had a reason other than just Blendin’s incompetence. Unfortunately, the accident had consequences so grave on Blendin’s physical health, it seemingly also took a toll on his sanity and questioning him only leaves them with esoteric sentences of dubious credibility.
Blendin: “This is very nice of you… to visit me. There isn’t much time left. I was starting to feel alone, before everything disappears.” Blendin: “Time Baby will succeed… He will free us from this time.”
July 13, 2012 again: back in the gift shop of the Mystery Shack, Wendy and Soos have captured Bill and tied him up to a chair. Wendy starts interrogating him, asking him who or what he is-- throwing in her multiple guesses: the Shapeshifter she defeated with Dipper in the bunker, a paper clone... She doesn’t suspect demon possession or a switch-because-of-the-carpet scenario, however. Bill just keeps trying to break free with little success, without answering; and soon, Stan interrupts them when he enters the gift shop as well, followed by the dozen of tourists he took during his latest tour. Wendy and Soos manage to evade Stan’s obvious questions by pretending they were making a new attraction.
Back in Mabel’s Dreamscape, Mabel encourages Dipper to have some fun with Bill’s powers, but he is scared of messing up because of just how powerful he is; having seen Bill’s powers both in the Mindscape/Dreamscape and in Weirdmageddon when he witnessed the alternate timelines, Dipper knows just how far those powers can go and he isn’t sure he can control them. Still, after some teasing Mabel starts a snowball fight with the surrounding ice cream, and gradually the twins have more and more fun starting with the ice cream, then with the tricks Dipper starts to use. When they take a break, Mabel points out that nothing bad happened, and Dipper grows a bit more confident that he can use Bill’s powers in a way that isn’t dangerous.
Dipper: “I guess it’s easy to do exactly what you want when it literally happens in your mind... Huh.”
Dipper notices it’s almost noon, and Mabel remembers that she was supposed to meet William at Greasy’s Diner for lunch. Mabel is unseasy upon thinking of talking to him again after what happened the day before, and Dipper confirms by showing William’s current whereabouts through a peephole that William seems about as worried as she is. Mabel takes a deep breath, makes sure that she will be able to see Dipper whenever she needs (during the night for sure, perhaps earlier if she asks for it). Still, just before Dipper wakes her up... She has a favor to ask him.
Mabel: “Now that you can do lots of magic stuff and all... Could you do something for me?”
Back in the gift shop, the tourists have left and Bill was untied due to Stan’s confusion over the situation. However, he is forced to stay inside and is stuck sitting by Wendy’s side behind the cashier desk. When Mabel goes through the gift shop to go to the Diner, everyone notices that she made a new sweater -- one with a pine tree symbol on it, no less. Bill is enraged but can’t stop her from leaving.
William has his first face reveal. He is a blonde 13-year-old, and is already waiting worriedly at Greasy’s Diner when Mabel arrives. He immediately apologizes for what happened on the day before.
William: “About yesterday, I... I’m sorry I said your brother was a bad influence. That was uncalled for.”
Mabel: “Yes. Yes it was.”
William is genuinely apologetic, but soon it is revealed that the reason why he thought Dipper and the Mystery Shack were a bad influence was because he doesn’t believe at all in the supernatural. Even if Mabel told him about her adventures, he assumed they were just stories she made up while playing in the Mystery Shack’s museum and never believed them to be true. Mabel tries to convince him by showing him some episodes of Dipper’s “Guide to the Unexplained” -- a series of videos he used to make and post online at the beginning of their summer break upon arriving in Gravity Falls, but stopped making altogether after Summerween. Sadly, the episodes made up until then did not revolve around exceptionally weird anomalies, and aren’t enough to convince William. The only thing William admits to being strange is the fact that every inhabitant of Gravity Falls is “out of their minds.”
Exasperated by William’s absurdly high levels of skepticism, Mabel eventually dares him to go on a forest expedition with her, Candy and Grenda on the next day, just so they can show him pretty much anything in the forest that is out of the ordinary. William strongly refuses and tries to dissuade her to go into the forest at all; he has been personally forbidden by his mother from going anywhere near the forest, and he has also read on the local news that there is currently a predator of unknown origin or species on the loose, which has been notably attacking sheep from the nearby farm. Mabel teases him about the fact that he believes that this creature is real, and suggests that it might be a werewolf for example; but William doesn’t take her seriously, especially because the creature is supposed to fly.
And... This is the part where my script starts getting wonky. I’ve been trying to fill the holes, but sadly it’s proven to be quite difficult, especially now that I know I won’t be drawing it in comic form anyway. Still, the main plot should be precise enough! The holes are mainly just “there should be some filler and/or foreshadowing to what’s coming here”, with little more than just prompts for what could be happening.
Back in the Mystery Shack’s gift shop, Wendy tries to sneakily question Bill, but when Stan asks them where Mabel went and Bill tells him she skipped her restocking duty so she could spend time with William at the Diner, Stan asks him to get her back. Bill happily takes this opportunity to slip out of the Mystery Shack, and have an excuse to bother Mabel at the same time.
Eventually, William is obligated to accept Mabel’s terms and intends on coming so he can at least make sure that the girls won’t put themselves in danger upon visiting the forest on their own.
Bill arrives at the Diner. William, thinking he is meeting Dipper again, tries to make amends for the things he said the previous day and says that he earnestly thinks they can start again on the right foot; Bill sadistically mocks him instead, all the while pretending to be Dipper, just so he can ruin Mabel’s hopes of reconciling William and Dipper. Bill finishes Mabel by forcing her to leave, saying that Stan expects her to work at the gift shop like she was supposed to since the beginning.
Mabel gone, William and Bill start to have a tense conversation; well, tense on William’s part, while Bill is mostly just having a blast driving William mad. The old fanfic that was the first “draft” version of the story has this chapter, which gathers most of the jokes I intended to keep, and at least some of the plot points. I’ll put a warning for awkward English, though. Oh and also, apparently in the old version it was July 3rd and not July 13th, so in the comic the “tomorrow is July 4th so the forest trip can’t happen anyway” excuse wouldn’t work.
About the Quetzalcoatlus thing: here, have some fun dinosaur size comparisons & history following my latest research on what the pterodactyl from S1E18: Land Before Swine.
William: “And how would you even know all that?”
Bill: “Because I ate Leonardo da Vinci.”
William: “. . .”
William: “… It must have been some VERY cryptic way for you to say that it was one of those conspiracy things mentioned in the old book supposedly written by a genius that you keep reading passionately every day. Right?”
Bill: “Oh, so your brain CAN work sometimes!”
Bill gets bit by a soothquito. His bite marks spell “FHOASE CORECULLY“
Upon leaving the Diner, they both see someone being kidnapped by a member of the Blindeye Society. William insists they immediately go warn the police, but Blubs and Durland prove to be ineffective as ever. Bill slips in one or two facts about the secret society, but William dismisses them completely as other random insane things Bill just happens to say all the time for trolling purposes.
Mabel is back in the Mystery Shack and starts her restocking duty, but her mind is clearly elsewhere. She starts mumbling to herself, but is interrupted by the decapitated head of Larry King who just happened to be in the vents nearby. Mabel isn’t surprised at all to see he survived, and when Larry King starts "interviewing” her about the issues she was mumbling about, she complies. Some time later, while Soos is cleaning up the floor, he overhears Mabel complaining about Bill being a jerk on purpose and making Dipper seem like a terrible person, and ends up hearing pretty much the whole story that way, without Mabel knowing. Soos proceeds to tell Wendy what he heard, helping them putting two and two together-- all the while understanding why Mabel didn’t warn them, and why they should stay silent as well. They decide not to tell Mabel they know her secret; but when Bill comes back later, just as Wendy’s shift was about to end, she has just one thing to tell him:
Wendy: “Tomorrow 6PM. My place.”
Night time; Bill is annoyed, but not very surprised by the fact that Soos is sleeping with him  for the night, in the room on the ground floor where Dipper had relocated. Bill is at least glad he no longer has to pretend to be Dipper around Wendy and him.
Soos proceeds to ask Bill what his intentions were; not just in the present times now that the switch occurred, but also before it.
Soos: “So you really are that triangle guy from two weeks ago?”
Soos: “Now that I'm thinking about it… A lot of things happened two weeks ago. That's when it began to get all wrong. Well, it was already wrong before that, but… That's really when you came that everything started to get all weird and… bad.“
Soos: “It all started because of that Summerween night. What did you want with us?”
Soos: “Why did you tell Dipper that Gideon summoned you?”
Bill: “It was just a job. Jobs are boring. There’s no fun in it if nobody’s trying to stop you.”
Bill: “Oh, and you wanna know the best part? If you’d taken Shooting Star along with you instead of going just the two of you, perhaps you would’ve had an opportunity to beat me.”
Soos: What did you do with Gideon two weeks ago? Dipper and I knew it wasn’t a coincidence that those government guys showed up just the next day.
Bill: “Something that neither Pine Tree nor I want anybody to find out, I bet. Also if I were to tell you, you'd either faint or spend the next fourteen hours trying to explain it all to Red. Funny, but not worth it.”
Soos is disturbed by Bill’s attitude, because of course he tries to both troll and traumatize at once, and given how Soos was already terrified of Bill because of the Summerween night (”I’ve had nightmares for weeks!” from an earlier comic page), it doesn’t help. Soos tries to ask Bill about the deal he made with Gideon -- more specifically, he asks what Bill wanted in return for stealing the code from Stan’s mind. However, Bill doesn’t answer and instead opens the bedroom door to reveal that Mabel was trying to eavesdrop.
Mabel was mostly there to make sure that everything was alright, and deduces that Bill hadn't slept at all during the first night and that he intends to never sleep at all, even after she tells him that humans need sleep to survive. Thankfully she came prepared with a “surprise gift from Candy and Grenda”, and sprays Bill with Fairy Dust.
Mabel: “There’s probably enough in that bag to knock out a gremloblin in an instant, so I think he’s good for the night. :p”
Once Bill is asleep, Dipper takes this chance to come to his Dreamscape and talk to him one-on-one; and, he is not happy at how Bill treated Mabel so far. Still, after a certain point the conversation gets to a more pressing topic.
Bill: “You saw it happen, didn’t you?”
Bill: “Weirdmageddon. You saw it, right?”
Dipper: “. . .”
Bill: “Oh-ho, even better! There’s a timeline in which YOU make it happen, isn’t there?”
Dipper: “That’s not gonna happen.”
Bill: “Look kid, take it from me. The more you try to actively prevent a specific outcome, the more likely you usually make it happen.”
Dipper: “You can’t make something happen if you specifically stop everything that can lead to it from happening first.”
Dipper: “Even if it includes lying to Mabel…  I saw it. If she learns there’s a way to get me a physical form, she’ll try anything to make it happen and disregard the consequences. I bet she trusts me to keep things under control, but everything else? There’s just... There’s too many variables. We can’t let her know anything about the portal. Or Weirdmageddon.”
Bill: “Well, that doesn’t change anything from my original plan anyway.”
Bill: “So you’re just gonna stay in the Nightmare Realm forever, is that it?”
Dipper: “That’s not much of a plan so far, but that’s still an effective way to save the world.”
Bill: “Don’t mess with me. You DO know that if you don’t make your way to another dimension eventually, you’re just going to die, right?”
Dipper: “... W-what are you talking about?”
Bill: “Wait. You REALLY didn’t figure that out yet?”
Bill: “The Nightmare Realm is unstable. It’s just gonna collapse one of these days, destroy everything in it. Could be in a billion years. Could be tomorrow.”
After leaving Bill’s Dreamscape, Dipper decides to visit Wendy’s and tell her everything. He confirms her doubts, tells her the whole story with the carpet... And he tells her about Weirdmageddon and what Bill just told him about the Nightmare Realm.
Dipper: “I mean, it’s better this way for everyone, and of course I’m not gonna go with Bill’s original plan to destroy the laws of physics or whatever, but… I-I just don’t wanna die, you know?”
Wendy: “Don’t worry. We’ll find a way.”
dia’s note finally we get to meet our resident bookseller! i was kind of on the fence about posting this since i’m not completely satisfied, but i’m learning to be less critical of my works so here it is lol, hope you enjoy!
Known for his flawless knowledge of each and every one of the books amongst the shelves, the young bookseller has certainly made a name for himself in the kingdom. He was undoubtedly adored by the locals and travelers alike—magical beings or otherwise.
Meet the other residents of Wisteria
Tumblr media
Jisung’s time at the bookshop first started when he was fourteen. His father, a very powerful mage, was unfortunately killed in the Great War when Jisung was only ten years old. His mother, a mere human, had left long before Jisung could comprehend who she was and what she was supposed to mean to him.
He was never given the opportunity to learn about her.
It wasn’t taboo, per se, for those born from magic to be involved with humans. But it was quite rare, and those who chose to pursue their desires for each other were often met with scandalized glares from both sides.
Jisung’s parents met at his mother’s flower shop. His father used to work for the Crown, and he had wandered in, seeking a bouquet to purchase as a gift. The Queen had just announced her pregnancy with her first child, and the entire castle was frantic in their search for a congratulatory gift. Knowing of her affinity for flora, Jisung’s father made his way to the kingdom’s renowned flower shop, not expecting to fall in love with the maiden hidden behind the leaves.
Because of the absence of any other parental figure in his life, Jisung had no other choice but to move in with his uncle.
Well, he wasn’t really his uncle.
The man in question was a good friend of Jisung’s father, a fellow mage, who also happened to be the owner of the town’s beloved bookshop, Novelty Novels. Unlike any other bookshop in the six kingdoms, this one had novels, novelas, and anthologies graced with magical properties—each unique for every book.
A tale about romance would be laced with a charm that would occasionally release a sweet yet bitter scent, allowing the reader to live vicariously through those who were unfortunate enough to be star-crossed lovers. A tale of mystery and wonder would occasionally have clues appear in the margins—subtle enough as to not give away the ending, but inducing enough to push the reader in the right direction.
Jisung wasn’t much of an avid reader, but he did take it upon himself to become familiar with every single book on the shelves: their content, their magical properties, and their location. He thought it would allow for a more efficient interaction with the customers should they need any assistance.
And it certainly made his life easier.
After an eternity and a half, Jisung finally finished bagging up the last few purchases. As soon as the door closed and the shop lacked any sort of physical presence, the young boy sighed. Too tired to leave his post, Jisung waved his hand in a circular motion and the sign on the door flipped, presenting the words–
Closed: Please come back tomorrow.
He internally winced at the thought of his uncle finding out he used magic without his permission. It was only a small amount though, barely substantial enough to cause any real damage.
He would be fine.
Leaning back on the counter behind him, Jisung reached over to the side  and gently caressed the soft, white lump of fur resting on the nearby windowsill. Said lump wriggled at the contact, moving about to reveal a pair of ears, a rosy button nose, and four wispy whiskers—two on each side of the nose. Jisung smiled, allowing the bunny to hop across his arm and settle comfortably on his shoulders.
He nuzzled his nose into her fur and sighed, eyes droopy.
The sun was just about to set beneath the horizon, and people in the square were beginning to light the torches outside their shops, blissfully unaware of the ashy clouds looming over them. Usually, the bookshop would stay open for a few hours more, but ever since Jisung’s uncle left for his trip, leaving the poor boy to run the shop on his own, he was given the grace to close up earlier than usual—much to Jisung’s delight.
With the extra time he had to spare, he would usually spend it at the Harrownight Inn and enjoy a warm, steamy bowl of Mark’s specialty soup. Or he would bring his bunny, Mabel, to Chenle’s menagerie and let her play around with his creatures.
Crack.
Jisung flinched, skirting away from the window sharply. Mabel, who had just begun to doze off on her owner’s shoulder, was positively perplexed as she hopped onto the counter, foot thumping loudly on the wood to express her indignation. Jisung muttered a soft ‘sorry’ and gently patted her head, letting his fingers run over her silky fur.
He heard shouts and complaints from outside and walked over to the door, peering through the clear glass. Large droplets of rain poured down on the streets, slamming against the cobblestone pathways and soaking the front of the other shops. Jisung snickered when he saw Jeno a few feet away. The poor baker was frantically scrambling to open the door to the bakery—all while balancing a tray of pastries on his other hand.
Jisung shook his head, a smirk tugging at the corner of his mouth, and stepped away from the door, moving toward one of the chairs in the back of the shop and plopping down on it. The sound of quiet, yet rhythmic, pitter-patters followed, and soon Mabel was clambering up Jisung’s leg. Her owner chuckled as he bent down and carefully scooped her up in his arms, resting her against his chest.
“It looks like we’ll have to visit Chenle some other day,” he sighed.
— — —
You cursed under your breath, feet picking up speed as you darted through the empty streets. You frantically tugged your hood over your head, pulling it so that it covered half of your face.
The rain was beating down hard, and you instantly regretted not accepting the lovely tea owner’s offer to stay in her shop and wait for the rain to pass. You had simply bid her farewell, darting out of the shop and bumping into a few individuals during your hasty exit.
The inn was at the other end of the square, but you could barely make out the path ahead of you—hidden behind a dense veil of fog. At this rate, you’ll end up back at the inn with more bruises and scratches than when you first came.
Choosing safety over comfort, you dashed to the nearest shop, seeking refuge underneath the awning. Sore and tired from holding your hood up, your arm fell limply at your side, and you collapsed onto the wooden door behind you. Tiny droplets of rain dripped down your fingertips and into the puddle next to your feet. The cobblestone streets were absolutely drenched, and you internally winced at the thought of what would’ve happened if you had kept running.
Most of the townspeople had already retreated into their shops—not a single person left wandering the streets. You glanced over your shoulder, eyes flitting over the sign above the door.
Novelty Novels
You recognized the name—a few of Renjun’s spellbooks and Mark’s recipe books were tagged with it. Taking a closer look inside, you spotted rows upon rows of bookshelves—lined in neat, straight lines starting from one end of the shop to the other. The shelves were completely stocked with books of all genres and sizes, leaving no room in between. The lamps in the shop were still flickering, so you softly knocked on the wooden door, hoping that someone was still inside and they would let you take refuge until the rain cleared.
You waited for a few seconds, eyes darting back and forth, checking to see if there was a person walking up to the door.
You, however, certainly weren’t expecting that person (or not person in this case) to be a small bunny, hopping along the wooden floorboards. It appeared between a row of shelves, making its way towards the entrance in a zig-zag motion. As soon as it got close enough, you bent down and tapped the glass gently, grabbing the creature’s attention.
It traveled over to where your hand made contact with the glass and nuzzled its nose against. A tender giggle bubbled from your lips as you easily became charmed by the darling little critter. In fact, you were so entranced with the bunny that you failed to notice a pair of legs standing right behind it.
A tiny shriek sounded from your throat as the door was suddenly thrust open, sending you tumbling into the puddle right behind you. You winced at the feeling of water soaking through your coat and garments.
“Oh–I am terribly sorry! A-Are you all right?” A gentle, but firm hand gripped your upper arm, pulling you up from the ground. You patted down your legs, ridding your clothing from any dirt or leaves that may have gotten stuck to them.
In front of you stood a boy, whom you assumed was the store’s shopkeep, looking at you with the most concerned gaze. His eyebrows were pulled together, and his lips were set in a small frown. He had his hands hovering over you—not quite sure what to do with them. You took notice of the bunny that was no longer on the ground, but on his shoulder instead. Its eyes were peering curiously at you, and as if it shared the same sentiment as the boy before you, the tiny creature gracefully hopped into your own shoulder.
The boy gasped as he reached out, plucking the bunny off your shoulder and holding it up in front of his face.
“Mabel, where are your manners?” the young shopkeep scolded, lips set into a deep frown. His bunny, Mabel, just scrunched her nose up and proceeded to wriggle out of his grasp, landing gracefully on the wooden floorboards.
The shopkeep focused his attention back to you, bowing slightly.
“My apologies—Mabel is a very ‘act first, think later’ type of creature. Please pay no heed to her  unrestrained nature. It seems I have been quite lax with her training.”
You smiled softly at the conflicted expression on the boy’s face, reaching up to tug the strings of your coat loose. You neatly folded the fabric over your forearm, staying mindful of the dark, wet patch near the hem.
“No need to apologize,” you assured him. “I’m sure she, nor you, meant no harm.”
At the mention of what happened earlier, the shopkeeper’s ears flushed a deep red as he stiffly rubbed the back of his neck.
“Ahh yes—I truly did not mean to startle you. I just wanted to know if you would like to come in.” He gestured to the ongoing cascade of rain hitting the streets. “I doubt being out here is anything more than pleasant.”
You laughed breathlessly, running a hand through your damp hair.
“I certainly would appreciate that, thank you,” you said kindly. The shopkeeper smiled back (albeit not as enthusiastically) and motioned for you to enter.
Once the door was shut, you released a sigh of relief, grateful to be surrounded by the warmth of the shop. You took a quick peruse of the interior, enthralled by its cozy and inviting atmosphere. The ceiling was coated with intricate designs, swirling and curling over the dark wood as it traveled down to the floorboards. The twisted staircase in the back of the store was almost obscured by the rows of shelves, but you didn’t miss the array of flora weaving in and out of the bars and railings.
(If you had looked close enough, you would have noticed the way they shimmered under the glow of the lamplights.)
Directly in front of you, in the midst of all the literary clusters, was the front desk. The surface itself was clean and polished, but judging from the pile of novels and documents peeking out from behind the desk, you saw it as a product of hastiness and the desire to clean. You slyly glanced over at the young shopkeeper, a shy smile tugging at the corners of your lips.
You couldn’t fault him for that—you were the same way. The haphazard pile of paintbrushes and parchments back at the inn served as a testament to that statement.
“If you don’t mind me asking,” the shopkeeper began, wringing his hands together nervously. “But you’re taking residence at Harrownight, correct?”
Your eyes widened in surprise and tilted your head to the side.  “How did you know?”
“I saw you chatting with Mark when you first came in,” he said. “When I noticed you crouching outside my shop, I recognized your face and that’s why I let you in.”
You quirked an eyebrow. “So are you saying that if you hadn’t recognized me, then you wouldn’t have let me in?”
The words sounded accusatory, but there was hardly any real bite to them. You just wanted to observe his reaction, finding yourself instantly charmed by his innocent nature. You bit back a giggle at the way his eyes widened comically at the statement. He brought his hands up, waving them back and forth in an attempt to defend his case.
“N-No, of course not! I was just trying to–”
You held your hand up, effectively cutting him off. Gentle laughs tumbled from your lips.
“It was merely a jest,” you assured. “I appreciate the hospitality. I’ve noticed it’s quite common amongst you kingdom folk.”
You thought back to your first encounter with Mark, and the way he did everything he could to ensure you were comfortable. Even Renjun, with his snarky persona, was thoughtful and considerate in his own way; you vaguely registered the light weight of the salve in your satchel.
The shopkeeper finally smiled, a genuine one. “Yes, we take pride in making sure that travelers have a pleasant stay in the capital. It can be quite burdensome for those from the countryside to adapt to a bustling city like Wisteria.”
He peered at you, big brown eyes shining with curiosity. “Speaking of, where exactly did you journey from?”
It was a question you should have expected—you were a traveler after all—but that didn’t make answering it any easier. If you were being honest, you couldn’t remember the last time you were blessed to be in the comfort of a home, your own or otherwise. After the Great War, thousands of people and creatures were left unsupported and had no choice but to leave. They became aimless wanderers traveling through the country in search of a purpose once again—you were one of them.
You didn’t have a simple answer, so you took the easy way out.
“I’m from the East.” You smiled warily. “My family and I lived on the outskirts, a few miles from Aurora.”
The shopkeeper’s face dawned in understanding, his mouth forming an ‘o’ shape. “Ahh yes, Aurora is a wonderful kingdom. Well, I hope your stay in Wisteria is more than enjoyable.”
He leaned in closer, bringing his hand up cup around his mouth, resembling the image of gossiping maidens in the corner streets.
“And please do not hesitate to come to me if Mark’s service is anything but adequate. I will make sure he hears it from me.” The young boy finishes off with a wink, making you burst into a fit of laughter.
He stuck his hand out sharply, scrunching his nose up endearingly. “I’m Jisung, pleased to make your acquaintance. And uh, well you’ve already met Mabel.”
You took his hand in yours, shaking it. “The pleasure is all mine. I’m Y/n.”
You were fairly certain this wouldn’t be the last time you stepped foot into the shop.
