last week before break!! and it should be a pretty chill one… a last minute cancellation means i have 5 or 6 sessions left, depending on whether this homework help student i may or may not be giving a trial session to comes through, and the only prep i have left is digitizing a single practice test for the hunter exam, although ideally i’d like to get the next one done along with another ACT and some workbook pages so i can hit the ground running in january (and there is that dev work to do….). i’ve been thinking about my idea of setting a goal for hours worked in a year and what i might do with my time in those weeks where i can theoretically get away with doing less and honestly… i might just try to bank some ACTs… it’s such a long fucking test…. although also my one ACT student might switch to the SAT so other things may wind up more pressing lol.

another thing i have been Pondering this week is, i stopped doing a morning routine of any kind because i was so busy and it took so long and i didn’t feel like i had the time, and honestly, HONESTLY, it’s been fine in that i have enough of an internalized routine that i’ve made it through fall mostly doing what i need to do and not even feeling particularly horrible (i checked my time tracking app and last fall i was working less but my mental health was soooooo much worse), so on some level i was like well maybe i don’t really have a use for a morning routine. but i think by now i have come to the realization that if there is anything i want to change, add, or improve…. that’s where the morning routine comes in lol. that’s the value add of a little conversation with myself.

this week was p. good! some quiet productive days at home in which i, most importantly, tamed my room so that waking up in or entering it doesn’t fill me with a wave of despair that requires repression, and also continued addressing the kitchen situation. on friday i saw gladiator ii (fun and denzel is going CRAZY but paul mescal is no russell crowe) & sang britney’s novelty christmas song at a bar that does karaoke fridays (“we all thought we didn’t know this song and then we all realized at the exact same time we did” — two separate people to me afterwards), & on saturday (i did not plan for this) i saw wicked (once again: ariana grande literally deserves an oscar) & got diner food with a friend i hadn’t seen since summer. today i worked & tried to do a little set up for tomorrow & worked out, which i only managed twice this week (my steps were also very low and guess what i have also been having a terrible fucking time falling asleep…. hmmmmmm……..), which means i am finally set to finish this fucking program tomorrow or whenever my legs feel up to hiit day. i am either going to start it straight over because i liked it a lot or do one of her shorter problems while my body continues reacclimating to working out until i can get on a five day schedule again… will depend on how i wake up the next couple days lol. other than that, try to get in a couple more amnesty blurbs (i’ve managed 4 so far which is a little less than i wanted but oh well…), keep it chill for week 15, and… maybe bring back the morning routine? as an experiment to start seeing what feels good right now so by january i have a plan? maybe! we’ll see.

"Okay, this makes no sense," you were starting to consider just giving up at this point.

"It's really not that hard. Let's try again," Meeks insisted, looking for a pencil.

You groaned and sat up again. The exam was tomorrow and you just couldn't make any sense of whatever you were learning at Electricity. Your current tiredness was not making it any easier, even though it was completely your fault for how late you went to slep yesterday.

"This big circle here is the Source Charge, which is what makes the Eletric field. Its direction depends solely on if it's positive or negative," he drew two circles. A negative one with arrows pointing away from it, and a positive one with arrows pointing at it. "Now the small circle here is the Test Charge."

You did your best to focus on it, now feeling embarrassed at how stupid you must be looking. "He's having to literally draw it for me," you thought and kind of wished to have never asked for help to begin with.

"Now, the Test Charge can be attracted or repulsed by the Source Charge, and that's Eletric Force."

"Is that the opposites attract thing?" You interrupt. "If the charges are opposite, they attract."

He smiled brightly. "Exactly!" His loud tone caught you off guard and he immediately went back to explaining, messily drawing on the last page of his notebook.

As he spoke, you couldn't help but notice the sparkle in his eyes, even through the glasses. Meeks was ranting way too quickly, clearly excited. You were barely catching up, yet you felt a little more awake now.

"With this formula here, you can easily find the Electric Potential at point B, where the Test Charge is. What we need to know, though, is the Voltage. Also known as the difference between two points of Electric Potential," he handed her the notebook. "Solve this one yourself!"

With hesitance, you start writing down the calculations and checking his reaction every once in a while, in case you got something wrong.

"Wait," he gently takes your hand and fixes a small mistake for you, then whisper. "Here, it's correct."

You're in silence for some instants, looking at the paper. The feeling of his hand still lingering on your skin. "Your fingers are cold."

"What?" Meeks looks at you confusedly and you shrug it off.

"Nothing," you sit closer to him on the bed, and pull a blanket over both off you. "I got this part. Explain the rest."

Still somewhat confused, he nodded and took the notebook back to teach her the other formulas. You noticed how satisfied he looked with his own explanation and smiled to yourself. It was nice to hear him talk, and you didn't feel bad about having him draw it for you anymore. If anything, it brought you a warm sensation on your chest.

Eventually, you leaned your head against his shoulder, which shut him up for a whole five seconds. You nudged his arm for him to go on, which he did in stuttered sentences and with an obvious blush.

"You know," Meeks shyly started after some other calculations were solved. "I can help you more often, if you need. It's no problem. And it's better than having to learn all this a day before and exam."

"That's lovely of you," you thank, "I appreciate the offer, and I probably will take it. I'm a hundred percent an humanities person, Electricity is a nightmare."

"Funny, I'm more of an Exact Science's person" he awkwardly chuckles, fixing his glasses with his pencil still on his hand. You smile at him, admiring him closely.

"Well, opposites do attract, right?"

His eyes really do look like they sparkle, specially only a few inches away from yours. Your lips felt awfully near his, all it would take was for him to lean in just a bit...

"Actually, wait a minute!" Meeks pulled away and looked for his notebook again, then went through it attentively. "I completely forgot to teach you about Work when a Test Charge moves! That'll definitively be on your exam!"

When he started to write a new formula, the only thought crossing your mind was "Oh my god, he's such a nerd", and you realized you were okay with it.

With your head on his shoulder again, you added to that thought that you even prefer him that way. Smiling proudly as he teaches you. In a way, it felt like care.

yapping about school, again

a lot as happened since my last ranty post, like that i have gotten B on my final grade from english(as a secondary language) but nobody really follows this blog so much so they would actually know what am i talking about.

in multiple posts ive been whining about my secondary laungage english teacher bcs shes dumb af and doesnt even know english past average 9yo vocabulary(except the slang💀) so when i use my fancy fancy worlds on her(telling her that taking drgs is NOT silly) she ofc gets mad. and that is, how she made my final grade from exact 9 marks from the second semester. 2 of them were group activities(two A`s), 5 quick tests(one A, one B& three Ds) and the rest unit reviews(one A and one B, but the b was my falut bcs im not gonna remember in front of what words u put the, a or nothing. but that were the weird ones like i dunno i cant remember bcs the only ones i remember are the ones that are obvious ones help) im a person who to function needs to have EVERYTHING planned. also when the teachers are all extremely chaotic i cant focus when i have to sit in place where i dont normally sit(i sit there for four years there, last place on the left but idk how other classrooms are build so it differs) its even worse. like this btch will be like so okey i know i said were gonna write the test tomorrow but i dont feel like it so were gonna do it today and than theres me who had planned to study today afternoon bcs it works for this types of tests best for me, also i had to practice on my saxophone yesterday bcs i ALSO had some MORE IMPORTANT EXAMS so now the whole thing is messed up & i have the saxophone exam today but im gonna be stressed form this test and it will completely ruin my day and maybe even a week.

im gonna browse more on the school system in hour school bcs its really messed up. like i wanted to transfer for this year but some therapist-not-therapist who is payed by the school told my mum that that is a not good idea bcs "every school has its dark side" yes. i know. but i asked my friend a simple question. "do your teacher provide materials from the lessons ex. presentations" and she was like EVERY TEACHER DOES THAT. HEAVEN ON EARTH.

like yeah only three from 20+ teachers does that in our school. and were really small school, only one building, the friends school has SIX.

it kinda is related to this and its really me problem but i struggle to keep writing notes in class. like one time i couldnt even get myself to hold the pencil bcs i had a bit dirty notebook(my bottle cracked and everything got wet and as it dried i had stains. so i couldnt write notes in the name notebook but i didnt wanted to buy a new one so i just wrote it who knows where and i was always loosing it. but i feel that the whole idea of notes doest suit me and some other people. i can pay attention, can write it dow beautifully like when i want to i can have the best looking notes in class but WHAT FOR. like it genuinely doesnt help me a bit. i can rewrite it like with the blurting technique but i still forget everything the next hour. and that isnt even with notes, thats with textbooks, some like non fiction books(i love books about like space or sum but i remember shit. like i can remember that on the page five there was this "in some insignificant galaxy(milky way) in some insignificant arm of the galaxy(orion arm)(btw i had to search it up bcs i dont know the exact term in english and it hurts my soul that there in the recommended questions there was "are we in the milky way rn)were rotating around some insignificant star(the sun) and living on some insignificant planet(the earth)" but i dont remember ANYTHING ELSE. LIKE THIS RANDOM THING BUT NOT THE REST OF THE A LOT MORE SIGNIFICANT THINGS?(if anyone recognizes the quote pls don judge me im halp asleep)

than when the teacher doesnt even want to help me by giving me like the presentation or like the book where they take these exercises from than its har to be motivated to learn and like in some cases even not able to properly learn the things. i have a friend(that one who i asked about her school) who i literally wish i had her brain bcs were on about the same level of inteligence but she can absorb information like a average human being. like pls help me.

but back to the teacher, there is this one who is really weird, he doesnt really like me but when you email him about anything related to geography he will explain, give sources and you can always ask for like a graded presentation(kinda rare there for someone to give you request presentation). thank you for being the most insufferable person on the whole school but who somehow does his job.

i shouldn't even talk about our principal who is like the embodiment of satan and god of gaslighting in one if someone like that exists. bro will be like "were the BEST school in town!" and than hires a known person who hase fake degrees and has been accused of being predatory towards students. like bro pick i side.(fun fact i one time i got so mad that i went to his facebook under a fake name and started to like spit some real good arguments under his homophobic and transphobic posts and one time i got extra silly and made a bit personal joke and he blocked me💔)

like im so so so much sorry for his ELEVEN FREAKING KIDS and especially the girls bcs he said(in a very insignificant physics lesson) that theyre mistakes. bro how can you be so fucking disgusting towards your own children that you sometimes even bring to school. in front of the whole class.

The moment Jisung walked into the cafe he knew there was something wrong with you, normally you would rush over to him with a smile across your face ready to greet him and get him sat down but today you were nowhere to be seen. You worked in a small cafe just around the corner from the JYP building so whenever Jisung had a break or some free time he would dress up in a cap, glasses and mask to come and meet you, it had been that way since the start of your relationship. It wasn't often that you got to spend time alone together so you took every opportunity you could to get together.

"Take a seat, I'll be with you in just a moment," A new worker said as he took Jisung over to a booth, Jisung kept glancing around the cafe. It wasn't that large so there weren't that many places that you could have been hiding from him, you couldn't have been on your break since it was a rush time in the cafe. The time was busiest since everyone wanted to have something to eat before heading to their offices for the rest of the afternoon.

"If you're looking for Y/n, she's in the back." The manager said as she caught Jisung looking around, of course, she knew who he was since he came into the cafe frequently enough. 

"Go back and see her, she looks tired though." Jisung knew you'd been a little more stressed than usual lately because you had assignments and exam's coming up but you were smart there was nothing you couldn't handle. 

"Thanks," He mumbled heading through the kitchen door and towards the small office you were cramped inside of with books surrounding you.

"This is where they keep the princess?" He chuckled sitting down beside you on one of the chairs and staring at the books that were in front of you. You must have been so lost in the words as you hadn't even noticed someone sitting next to you until Jisung touched your cheek. 

"Shit!" You screamed out jumping back on the seat and looking at him, your eyes were wide with fear and Jisung laughed softly. 

"You didn't hear me?" You shook your head, greeting him with a quick peck on the cheek before looking back down at your book. There were five exam's you were crunching for this week and not one of them was going to leave you enough time to also finish four assessments that you had to write up. Everything felt as though it was piling up on top of you, Jisung reached his hand out and touched yours instantly making you feel calmer with the smallest of touches. 

"Relax, you're ready for these exams." He whispered encouragingly to you as he began to rub your knuckles softly, he knew how hard you were on yourself about things but he didn't want you to start beating yourself up over anything.

"When was the last time you got some sleep? I mean real sleep, not what you and Chan call sleep," He mumbled as he watched you, your eyes had bags underneath them so he knew you hadn't slept well for days. 

"I slept last night," You lied. He knew you were lying since you wouldn't look at him and you scratched the base of your neck it was your give-away sign. 

"Want me to come around tomorrow? I'll cook us something to eat and we can study together...I'll ask you questions," You smiled at the thought of him helping you study despite having no idea what you had to do for those exams. 

"That would be great...But can you get-" He kissed your lips to stop you from asking if he could get the time off, if it was for you he would do anything in his power.

"Consider me already there, no go home and get some real sleep." He begged you as he looked at you, cupping your face in his hands while he rubbed his thumb under your eyes. You snuggled into his touch enjoying the feeling of his skin on yours, 

"I have another shift, I only had a two-hour break to cram some studying into. I'll go home after," You promised as he got up from the chair to walk him out, Jisung knew from the wording of your sentence that you would go home but that didn't mean you would rest.

"Just promise me you'll get rest," You nodded at him, quickly kissing him before heading over to the till to help your manager take orders and serve the customers that were inside. 

Jisung sighed to himself as he watched you plaster on a fake energetic smile for people and he headed out of the cafe wondering what he was going to have to do to get you to sleep.

The next day Jisung had text you non-stop to find out what you wanted him to cook and what time you wanted him to come around to the apartment but there had been no responses from you for the last four hours. 

"Maybe she's asleep or doing some studying," Chan tried to calm down Jisung's racing thoughts but he'd been worried about you since leaving the cafe yesterday. After seeing the state you were in he couldn't help but be filled with worry that you were going to end up crashing or passing out from exhaustion. 

"Babe, I got the ingredients for your favourite meal and Felix made brownies for us to share," Jisung announced as he unlocked the door to your apartment with his spare key but there was no response. He knew you were home because your favourite pair of shoes were by the door and your lights were all on, 

"Babe?" He called out, taking off his shoes and heading into the kitchen where he saw a cold pot of tea sitting on the side with some tablets that were open. Paracetamol and ibuprofen were sitting there with a half-drunken glass of water, he hated the thought of you having a headache as much as he hated the fact that you were staying awake so much.

"Y/N?" He whispered as he walked further into the apartment in case you were asleep somewhere you shouldn't have been and that was when he saw you. Fast asleep with your head laying on top of your textbooks, highlight in hand as you snored softly. He sighed to himself as he walked over to you, you were out cold.

"What am I going to do with you?" He chuckled to himself as he got closer to you, spotting that you had a sticky note pressed against your face and a bright coloured highlighter marker on your cheek. 

"Cute," He whispered making sure to snap a photo of the moment before he attempted to move you to your bedroom.

"Here we go," He grunted as he laid you down in the bed, carefully taking off your jeans so you wouldn't have to sleep in the horrible fabric, he pulled the sheets over your body before leaving a gentle kiss on your forehead. 

"Sleep well beautiful," He said before leaving the room to go and clean up your apartment. It was the least he could since it was in such a mess, you must not have had much time to clean between, work and studying and he didn't blame you. Beginning in the dining room where he had found you he started by collecting your notes together, sliding everything into the correct books before leaving to go and clean up the kitchen. 

Waking up to the smell of cooking you sat up in bed, holding your head as the headache still hadn't left yet.

"Fuck," You whispered to yourself as you kicked yourself out from the bed only to remember the last thing you had been doing was waiting for your tutor to call you on the laptop at the kitchen table and now you were in bed with no pants on.

"Shit!" You yelled out running into the hallway and into the kitchen to see Jisung standing over the over stirring something in a large pot, he jumped when he heard you running to your laptop that was now shut down and everything was cleared away. 

"Where are my notes?! Did my tutor call?! Why are you here?!" Your voice was hoarse as you panicked at Jisung but this only filled him with more worry as he thought you were getting sick. 

"I came in and you were asleep so I cleaned up for you, I figured it was no big deal-"

"No big deal?! Jisung I had a fucking meeting to be at! Did you not think about that when you moved me?!" You snapped as you began trying to load your laptop up as fast as you could,

 "No, I was too busy worrying my girlfriend had overworked himself," He answered snarkily as he poured some soup into a bowl and brought it over to the table for you but you didn't even thank him or glance away from your laptop. 

"Great! Just fucking great I missed my meeting and now I'm going to be behind on the studying!" As you yelled out in frustration you went to pull your legs into your chest, knocking the table ultimately knocking the soup over and spilling it over your books. 

"Fuck sake Jisung!" You screamed picking up the books and trying to clean them before the hot liquid ruined the notes and books that you desperately needed. 

"Y/n, calm down." Jisung tried to take the books from you to help but you let tears roll down your face as you saw everything that was inside was ruined, notes smudged over that was unreadable, pages were sticking together. Everything you had been working so hard on was gone within seconds. 

"This is your fault! Why should I calm down?! Why are you even here!?" You snapped once again, throwing the books down onto the table as you cried to yourself. The stress of your exams, working and your lack of sleep all finally hitting you at once as you broke down into a pool of tears, Jisung let out a breath as he saw you. He knew you weren't mad at him so he wasn't going to get upset over you yelling at him, 

"For this exact reason, you're too stressed...You haven't been sleeping Y/n...I came by to help," You shook your head as you stared at the ruined notes, 

"Everything is gone, I'm going to fail my exams." You whimpered as Jisung pulled you into his embrace and kissed the top of your head trying to remind you that it was going to be fine but you kept shaking your head and telling him that everything was gone. 

"You're so smart Y/n, you already know everything that was going to be in the exam." He whispered, kissing the top of your head as he tried to get you to calm down but nothing was going to work. The tiredness you were experiencing with the small cold you were getting was making you overreact to everything and right now it was the end of the world as you knew it.

"You don't get it because you never had to do this! Not all of us can just get out of school and just go on to be famous!" You snapped at him, trying to push him away as you sobbed into your hands but he wasn't going to let you go that easily.

When you woke up again you were curled up against Jisung in your bed, his arms were wrapped around you tightly as he snored and you whined feeling sweaty from being so close to him.

"You're finally awake?" You stared at Jisung confused as he questioned you, 

"What do you mean finally?" He sat you both up as he looked at you sighing, 

"You passed out after eating dinner with me and it's been a day since. You've been in and out of sleep since, waking up to pee and drink water." He looked at you with sad eyes, reaching up to feel how hot your skin was and smiling to himself as he realised you weren't as hot as you were the day before. 

"Your temperature's gone down so that's good." You looked at him with a frown and he kissed your forehead softly, 

"I'm sorry for yelling at you," You mumbled as you remember everything that had happened the day before, yelling at him for something you had done. 

"Don't worry about it. Your tutor called and I explained that you were sick, he's extending your assessments and allowing you to retake the exams when you're better." A wave of relief washed over you as you looked at Jisung, no idea how you were ever going to thank him for what he did. 

"I'll never stop thanking you," You snuggled into him, kissing his shoulder as he shook his head at you. 

"Just make sure you get enough rest, that's the only thanks I need." He told you as he held you closer to him.

MIDTERM

Without a doubt, Aizawa’s the smartest student in your Civil Procedure lecture. You admire him; you’re both first years, but he already has an incredible work ethic and results to show for it. He works two part-time jobs to help pay for school (alongside his impressive scholarship), studies into the late hours of the night (mostly due to his being kept awake very loud roommate), and, despite a bad habit of regularly showing up to your 8 am class slightly hungover, still manages to produce the top marks in the class. 

You’re envious of him, because you’re the exact opposite. Your tuition is paid in full by your parents, you have a wonderfully quiet apartment all to yourself, and you study as best you know how, only to practically fail every assignment. You wish you could be surprised, but the material is a dreadfully bland concoction of boring procedure and esoteric theory that you rarely get further than three or four pages into a chapter. You want to like law, you really do, but there’s something about the intricacies of drafting lawsuits that goes in one ear and out the other. It’s no surprise that you sought out Aizawa’s help, desperate to at least pass the class with a decent grade. 

You wish you hadn’t. 

You don’t understand what you do that bothers him so deeply, but something about you coaxes cruelty from somewhere dark inside of him. You always scurry towards the back of the lecture hall to grab a seat next to him, doing your best to be quiet and unassuming, but he shoots you a venomous glare or a soft flurry of harsh words. And you get it, to an extent- some days you walk into class chattering a little too loudly on the phone, and on others you loudly shuffle around in your book bag to try finding the notes that you attempted to start for this lecture (if you even brought them that day). You know it’s annoying, but you also know you don’t deserve the downright verbal abuse he throws at you for it.

“It’s hard to take notes if you forget your textbook. Try being prepared for once,” he’ll sigh as he slides his textbook to you. Like a good student, he took notes for lecture the night before, but it still took some convincing for him to spare you his textbook.

“Do you ever shut up?” He’ll interrupt you as you babble about your difficulties understanding the most recent lecture. You want to retort, tell him off for being rude, but the words die in your throat; he radiates an annoying apathy that makes you doubt the efficacy of anything you say to him.

“You wouldn’t fail every assignment if you actually studied. Or maybe, you’re actually just stupid?” He’ll quip as you clutch your paper, a red ‘47’ scrawled in the upper corner of the page littered with your professor's critiques and question marks. By contrast, Aizawa’s paper is pristine, donning a singular red mark of ‘98, nice work!’.

With a well placed glare and the sour baritone of his voice, laced with exhaustion, it’s always enough to make your stomach drop from shame and embarrassment. Under normal circumstances, you’d never allow anyone to speak to you that way, but your grade was a dire situation, and with the midterm upcoming, you forcefully swallow your pride and ask him for his help.

You have to beg, but Aizawa agrees to tutor you the day before the midterm. This grade is a make or break for the class- if you do poorly on this exam, you’ll have to drop the lecture to salvage your gpa, putting you half a semester behind your peers. It’s motivation enough to deal with his poor attitude, and the two of you end up reviewing in an empty studying room on the top floor of the library. You began the session alert and determined to catch up, but studying with him shows you just how far behind you are. The textbook sounds like foreign poetry coming from his mouth; Aizawa is nothing short of eloquent when explaining the complexities of something as boring as filing lawsuits, and you spend most of the two hours spent just zoning out, completely unable to focus.

“You’re just wasting my time at this point.” The break in his cadence snaps you out of your trance, unfocused eyes meeting his tired ones, slightly lidded in annoyance, “Are you even trying to remember the material? Or are you just expecting me to spoon-feed it to you?”

Your throat catches, forcing you to swallow a lump as you attempt to ignore his words. 

“I am trying! I just don’t understand why there are two approaches, is all,” You whine, flipping back through your sparse notes to find the section that contained the explanation.

Itachi enjoyed the quiet of [Name]’s apartment. Thankfully the cat seemed to like him; Itachi had already developed an exercise routine that Slippers seemed to latch onto rather quickly. And at night when he would sit in bed reading, the cat would cuddle at his feet. Itachi figured it was good that he and [Name]’s pet were on good terms as then he didn’t have to contend with it when he eventually did move in with her.

It was one of the nights that Itachi was slipping under the covers, novel in hand. Slippers typically jumped straight atop the mattress and made a beeline for the pair of wiggling feet beneath the blankets, but this time he seemed to be poking his nose in the narrow crevice between the bed and the nightstand, meowing.

That’s around when we first started dating…. Curiosity was now at boiling point within Itachi as he begin to meticulously page through the first few entries, scanning the text. He was unsure of whether or not to read it, however, as he felt like it may breach [Name]’s privacy, since he did not have permission to read it. He turned towards Slippers who was now nestled comfortably next to the headrest next to where Itachi would be sitting.

After a few moments of hesitation, Itachi decided to go ahead. He may find something useful in the diary that he could remember for special occasions and whatnot, and perhaps get perspective into his and [Name]’s relationship like never before. Settling in next to Slippers, Itachi began on the first page:

“March 18th, XX95Dear Diary,You won’t believe what just happened today! My friend Makiko and I were studying in the library, and since it is finals right now, every desk was occupied. A lot of people were sharing tables and spaces simply because everyone is so intent on passing their exams. We were studying for our Konoha History class - which, geez, I already took in high school, why do I have to take it again in college?! - when this really BEAUTIFUL gentleman comes over and asks if he can sit at our table as everywhere else is full. As he placed it, his eyes momentarily traced over the little nook where the diary sat - the diary that Itachi read front to back by now.

His mind was quickly overtaken once again with [Name]’s return that he couldn’t think much more of it. Besides, he had spent the rest of the week dismantling all the thoughts she had penned down there - especially that one entry in October of last year. He couldn’t get it out of his mind, and it haunted him even as he watched [Name] glide through the apartment, unaware of Itachi’s thoughts.

Little did she know that he was about to do something about it.

Later that evening, Itachi wondered if she was up to traveling to the University where they first met.

“It’s a short walk,” [Name] mused. “Why there, Itachi-kun?”

“…There is a book that I can only get there, and I’m curious to see if my Student ID will still take.”

“Ha, that’s cute, you book-hunter,” she replied. “I’m sure it will. C’mon, let’s go before it gets too dark!”

 It was indeed a short walk, and within the hour the pair had arrived inside the library of the past.

Itachi ascended the staircase that led to the second floor, the floor where he met [Name] and an innocuous table. In today's, busy world and lack of sleep is one as a badge of honor pulling an all-nighter is a testament to our self self sacrifice to work and 13-hour days simply show that were dedicated to success. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vaAydEAKglw But this is not the narrative which should be glorifying. Sleep is a basic and necessary process that demands to be satisfied just like our need for food and drink. Yet on any night up to 40 % of us have insufficient sleep. Even minor, sleep disturbances increase our risk for heart disease, depression and early death. Despite decades of science telling us that sleep is the foundation from which everything else flows, creativity, performance, health and sanity, sleep is not getting the attention it so rightly deserves. This is why my PhD research comes in for the past five years of being asleep researcher, I've, been looking at how attention to negativity, affects our sleep and developing a new approach to improve our sleep. Today I'll, be telling you about what we found and what it means for you. I've, always been a self-confessed sleep enthusiast. I love sleep, our child, my parents never had to worry by age 4. I put myself to bed drift off into a restful slumber and wake up raring to go. My teens were much the same. That was until one day I arrived at work for the morning shift only to realize that I was already out of energy. This happened time and time again I went to the doctor, but all the tests that I fine I wasn't. Fine, though sleep was affecting my life and I didn't know what to do. I was frustrated, so I went back to the doctor again this time we talked about how I felt I was exhausted, constantly on edge with a hair-trigger temper and my usual bright personality had turned into a dollop of flatness. The doctor said that lack of sleep was affecting every single aspect of my life and it was causing me to slip into a severe depression with proper support, mostly gradually returned to normal. I felt better than ever, and I was so relieved, but I was also so desperate to avoid slipping back to where I was before. I knew that I had to understand why poor sleep patterns and find solutions. While there are many biological causes of poor sleep, sometimes the biggest causes are psychological processes that happen outside of our awareness. Each day we have bombarded by thousands of pieces of information, but our brains do not have the resources to pay attention to everything. One type of information - the brain is particularly hard way to pay attention to is negative information. A phenomenon called attentional bias, negativity in our caveman days being alert. The negativity helped us keep safe from predators today. Thinking about all the things that could go wrong in an upcoming exam could give us the extra push needed to stay in that little bit extra. However, attentional bias for negativity can also work against us by producing worry that really causes us not to sleep to demonstrate how this works. I need you to think about a big event in your food. It could be a deadline and interview, or even a beep pressure public talk. Now it's the night before and you're in bed. Most of you will fall asleep in a time just when it takes to boil an egg. Others won't, be so lucky and will find it difficult to wire down. Instead, they'll lay awake, while their brain reminds them of all the ways that they going to stuff up tomorrow. The next day, you're, a bit groggy, but everything goes fine and off without a hitch. Those people who found it difficult to wire down the night before will go straight back into their normal sleep routine, but about 2 in 10 white. They'll, find that their attention is still captured by negativity and they & # 39. Ll lie awake worrying about anything and everything over time. Their attention book unconsciously shift to worry exclusively about flair. This is what happened to one person in my research. Paul Paul was putting in long hours at work to meet a deadline and he wasn't getting much sleep for the process. He met the deadline and he felt much more relaxed afterwards, but he still thought he couldn't get back into his normal sleep routine. He said to me: I tried everything I try so hard to sleep. Everybody else makes it so easy. Why is it just made? What Paul may have believed that his focus on steak was helpful? It was like they have an exact opposite effect, causing more stress and a vicious cycle of sleeplessness. I've conducted research with hundreds of people just like Paul investigating the potential benefits of a new approach. Success disrupt the back row sleeplessness before even has a chance to start. This approach is called attentional bias modification, unlike traditional 1430 attention about notifications, doesn't require an unconscionable operation of thinking and behavior. Instead in above shifting our attention away from negativity using simple computer tasks that you can complete in your own time. The way it works is like this two words flat upon a strength, one that is negative, like the word fatigue and one that is neutral, like the word chair, a split second later they disappear and it replaced by two dots behind the neutral word. People respond as to whether the neutral are two dots arranged horizontally or vertically over 700 trials. The aim is to get people looking at the ritual work and it's, not their attention away from the negative work conditioning the brain to pay less attention to negativity. I wanted to know, could modify people's attention in the moment. Stuff before they go to sleep, actually improve their sleep. In the first study, we asked university students to complete vacation paths before their and it's like Diaries for six days. What they didn't know is that on every second up, instead of completing the training tasks, they completed a task that didn't train their attention. We found that on my second page of the training task, they had less boring and fell asleep up to thirty minutes faster compared to those nights, and they did not complete the task. Easter thought far exceeded our expectations, so we conducted the same study again just to say whether this mother flew once again people who completed the training tasks that they have less work and fell asleep after these results suggest up the multiplying our lives from negativity, modify the Worry that we experience death before bed and he was not and helps us achieve a much-needed rest. he barely manages graduates and gets into seoul institute of art with a blink of an eye. he majors in drawing but falls in love with everything and anything that resembles beauty. his parents think he’s going to be alright.

after bokyung graduates, he knows he loves drawing but his disorder realises that he wants to do other things –– paint, sculpt, draw. he loves art and is selfish to let that all go, so he does what his parents suggest for an only child born under wealthy parents. he chooses to do all three.

bokyung gets the job as a museum curator with the high recommendation of his parents, a few of their pieces are stored there and he’d be constantly surrounded by art. he knows it’s a little out of the way from gangnam but bokyung takes the job.

he kisses his parents’ cheeks, packs his bags, and moves to itaewon-dong at twenty-two.

bokyung isn’t the smartest nor the best person morally, but he wants to paint himself a picture that this is what he wants to do. he wants to learn what it’s like to be an adult, even if it’ll take a few years to get there.

“i’m not listening because i know you’re just being dumb,” bokyung finds himself saying instead, rolling his eyes and playing off the fact that he’s gotten worse –– his disorder. “isn’t being your friend enough?”

he hears a roaring laugh beside him on his bedside and even though he’s not as attentive, bokyung knows he’s going to be okay.

granted, it doesn’t exactly count when his first love has been art since the age of three but this time, it’s an actual person. a classmate studying business economics. bokyung had always thought business was a boring subject but today, the way his companion looks at their economic textbook with wide eyes and the smallest of smiles –– it’s art waiting to be sculpted.

“aren’t you an art major? you know you don’t have to stay up with me to study for exams, bokyung-ah.”

bokyung shrugs and leans forward to draw a little figure at the corner of the other’s study guide, a little dog holding a sign that says, “you can do it!” it’s cute and it’s the closest he’s ever going to get to telling the other that he likes them. it’s stupid anyway, bokyung has only ever really loved art his entire life.

it’s always been easier to show his love through the form of art.

“how about … i’ll draw you little pictures every time you finish a page. deal?” bokyung murmurs with a shy grin and he’s met with one of the most beautiful smiles in return.

bokyung’s shoulders lift once again and continues to press his paintbrush against the canvas, smooth strokes between white lines –– it’s calming in a sense, the half-painted picture that’s filled with various of colors. it represents something deep within him and it makes him lift the corner of his lips just a bit.

so he paints a circle in the middle of the painting just for the hell of it.

“i ‘unno. i like looking at pretty things –– making pretty things, i guess,” he replies offhandedly before turning to dip the tip of his brush into musky water, a twist of his wrist and he picks a dark shade of yellow as his next color. it reminds him of bumblebees and dandelions basked in dirt. bokyung has always liked the color yellow.

“well, i’m pretty. do you like looking at me?”

bokyung’s gaze rises from his canvas to the other, affection and love soon filling features for something other than art. his attention quickly disperses to his companion and warm laughter fills the distance. he’s in love and bokyung doesn’t dwell on exactly which out of the two he loves more.

“yeah,” bokyung grins as he painted a heart onto his canvas. “i like looking at you, too.”

breathing.

“heard you’re going to be a curator for a museum in itaewon.”

bokyung makes a noncommittal noise as he continues to stare at the breathtaking blue skies that hover above them. he likes the way it looks, the first real spring day of the season, and thinks it would look beautiful if painted on a portrait.

but for once, bokyung’s fingers doesn’t itch for a paintbrush or a pencil.

“yeah,” he murmurs as a heavy cloud surpasses the both of them from above, allowing real sunlight to shine down upon them –– momentarily blinding bokyung for a moment. he squints and moves his head to the right where he’s met with a familiar curious gaze from the other. bokyung’s heart swells at the thought of leaving this.

“that’s, like –– across town, bokyung-ah! when are you moving?”

bokyung takes a brief moment of silence to think of his answer carefully. he hasn’t actually told anyone that he took the job other than his parents. it sort of feels like he’s floating to somewhere far, far away. it’s bittersweet, something that he loves finally granted to him after all these years.

he hadn’t actually thought it would also mean leaving someone else that he loved behind.

“i leave for itaewon tomorrow,” he finally states, eyes gazing for that familiar warmth that resembles red and oranges –– like the final resting sunset above winter planes. “i’m leaving tomorrow.”

instead of sadness, there’s actual excitement that’s laced in between a bubbling laugh and familiar arms that envelope him into a tight hug. bokyung shocked for a moment before he feels himself hugging back, hands stained with paint and pencil shavings but they look like they belong on that midst of the other’s back.

bokyung does his best to ingrain this moment in his head for forever.

“i’m going to miss you, kim.”

and i’ll miss you too, my muse.

It’s 10:53pm on a Sunday, and besides a few regulars, the coffee shop I work at is dead, which is a rarity seeing as though the place is open 24 hours. Any other time Carla’s Coffee would be brimming with people, but the rain hasn’t let up since noon. New York truly is the city that never sleeps. I have only been here a little over five months, but so far New York has been the distraction I needed. In this city, there is constantly something to occupy my wandering mind, so that’s why I hate slow nights like these. My thoughts begin to consume me, and my heart starts to ache for the life I left behind in Toronto: my mom and her comforting advice, for Hayden, and what could’ve been.

“Earth to Emma…” Lola’s voice brings me out of my unwanted trance. She is one of the few friends I have here.  One of the only downsides about moving to New York was knowing literally no one, and not to mention the absurdly high rent. I turn to her and hum back a response. She smiles and asks, “Have you thought about that party I invited you to tomorrow night?”  “Lola…I don’t know. I have an exam Tuesday morning, and I really don’t think completing it with a hangover would be in my best interest,” I laugh, “Besides, who goes to parties on a Monday night? You sound like you have a serious problem, Lola.” Pretending to be offended, she gasps, “It’s not a crime to have a little bit of fun! As far as I’m concerned, every night is Saturday night. Plus you’ve been studying for this test for a week now; you could ace it in your sleep. Pretty please, Emma!” Lola was right; I had been studying for this exam for quite some time now. When I wasn’t working here, I was either at school, or doing schoolwork. I liked to keep myself occupied at all times. I give in as I see a customer entering our store, “Fine, but I don’t get off until nine tomorrow.” “Perfect, just come to my place afterwards, and we’ll get ready together. The party starts at ten, which means it won’t really be alive until eleven,” she says as she walks away, pretending to be occupied with something else.

I make it out of Carla’s by 11:30, and begin the forty-minute journey from Soho to my shared apartment in Brooklyn alone, in the pouring rain. Usually Elijah, a coworker who lives relatively close to me, accompanies me home, but today his shift ended a few hours before mine. He offered to wait around for me, but I declined. I didn’t mind holding my own because it was a rather safe transit, as most of the time was spent on the subway and I always carry pepper spray. I also didn’t mind the transit time because work was pretty close to school, and I spent most of my days on that side of the city. I dread my apartment. The pre-war building smells of musk and mildew. When I signed the lease in January I didn’t think much about the fact that the building didn’t have AC, but now as summer approaches I deeply regret my stupidity. The air is stuffy and overbearing, and it doesn’t help that my apartment is on the fifth floor. While making the long trek up the seemingly never ending stairs, I always found myself getting sticky. However, it could be worse. I could still be in that dorm room on the same floor as Hayden’s.

I’m drenched by the time I get on the train. What good is an umbrella when the rain is coming at you in all directions? The train is almost empty besides the few scattered passengers throughout. I take a seat near the doors, and set my canvas bag in the seat next to me. I put in my headphones and take out the braid my long brown hair is in, so I can shake it out. In the middle of this process, a boy who looked around my age gets out of his seat and moves to the one directly across from mine. I can’t help but to notice how attractive he is. We briefly make eye contact, before my eyes divert elsewhere. His eyes are a warm chocolate color. Typically I’m not a fan of brown eyes, despite that being the color of my own, because I think they look mundane. But somehow, his eyes look stunning.  At first I think nothing of him changing his seat, he’s probably just in a hurry to get off at the next stop. But when the train makes its next stop, he makes no effort to move. I look up at him again. This time we hold eye contact as the train pulls forward, and he cocks his head to the side and smiles. Suddenly this encounter is a bit eerie. I look away, as I’m still sure I’m just overthinking the whole situation. I watch through my peripheral as he pulls out a notebook, and begins harshly dragging his pencil across the page. This wouldn’t alarm me usually, as I have seen a lot of people doodle and journal on the train, but the fact that he routinely looks up from his book to gaze at me makes me feel odd. This goes on for the duration of my train ride.

I grab my canvas bag, take out my umbrella, and walk to the doors as the train approaches my stop. I allow my eyes to glance over to creepy boy one more time, and my heart stops as he closes his journal and stuffs it into the backpack resting by his feet. I pray that this is just a coincidence that he’s getting off at the stop after mine and is just preparing, but soon he joins me by the doors, standing a little too close for comfort. Suddenly I feel like I’m the victim who dies in the first two minutes of every SVU episode. I close my eyes and take a deep breath. This is probably his stop too, I tell myself. I live in Brooklyn, there are a lot of people who ride this train, and get off at this exact stop. He surprises me when he lets out a laugh, “Nice weather we’re having, right?” His voice is soft and smooth, which eases me. He doesn’t sound like a killer, but nevertheless I’m grateful, because I am now more likely to be able to identify him in a lineup. I look up at him, and am about to reply when the doors open, and I bolt out.

The station is only five minutes from my apartment, but I make it to the building in two. I look around for creepy boy before entering the building, but he’s nowhere to be found.
