Toonami Weekly Recap 03/18/2023
Food Wars: The Fifth Plate (Promotion Exams Arc) EP#74 (01) - Final Exams: With the finals for Totsuki's first term arriving, Soma and his classmates in the Elite Ten are given the challenge to renovate an abandoned beach restaurant and earn a 3 million yen profit within three days. Meanwhile, the rest of the class are given easier assignments to run existing restaurants. In addition, the exams are being overseen by a new instructor, Suzuki. Suzuki seems to take an interest in Soma, who gets the impression he has met Suzuki before. Soma and his classmates are only able to open their restaurant on the third and final day due to the renovations they needed to make. However, they are able to attract a massive crowd thanks to their special yakisoba, which uses a combination of vegetables, minced squid, squid ink, red olive oil, and soft boiled egg yolks. By the end of the day, they are able to make their quota and pass the exam. However, as they make their summer vacation plans, Dojima arrives and informs them that the most prestigious cooking competition in the world, BLUE, is set to begin soon.
My Hero Academia Season 6 After the PLW Arc EP#129 (16) - The Hellish Todoroki Family, Part 2: When he was a child, Keigo Takami lived in a poor and abusive household. His father was a villain who went on the run with his mother after killing someone, inadvertently having a child, who he would treat terribly. Keigo would watch news broadcasts of Heroes, but never believed in them beyond fantasy, clinging to his Endeavor doll as his only source of happiness. One day, his father is arrested by Endeavor, reinvigorating hope in the boy that Heroes are real. He and his mother are left on the streets, as she begs him to use his wings to do something. After Keigo saves some civilians from an incident, they are approached by the Hero Public Safety Commission, recruiting Keigo to be a hero while also cutting all ties of the "Takami" name for them both. In the present, Best Jeanist and Hawks drive through the city, where they explain how they were able to put Best Jeanist into a "death-like state" to fool Dabi before he was revived. Best Jeanist stops a group of thugs on the street, where he learns the police are too busy rounding up the escaped convicts, and the hero offices nearby have shut down, causing them to notice how much the faith in heroes has dwindled. They arrive at Hawks' mother's home where he finds a letter from her explaining how Dabi had sent men to force her into revealing his past, and that she has fled to not cause him anymore trouble. Hawks laments on his failure to save his mother and instead run from his past, and declares his intention to do what he wants to do now and help Endeavor. Meanwhile, civilians have started to take matters into their own hands using support items to fight villains, but their inexperience only leads to more damage and more decrying for the Heroes being late. Endeavor regains consciousness in the hospital, breaking down over Dabi and his past sins coming back to haunt him. Shoto and his siblings awkwardly walk in on him as he tearfully attempts to apologize for his guilt and actions. He is then confronted by Rei regarding his current state, telling him they need to talk about Toya.
My Hero Academia Season 6 After the PLW Arc Arc EP#130 (17) - The Wrong Way to Put Out a Fire: The Todorokis reminisce on their past history that led them to this moment. Enji and Rei had discovered that while Toya possessed a fire Quirk greater than his father's, he had his mother's constitution, making him resistant to ice but weak to his own fire. In an attempt to protect him, Enji ceased all training with Toya, but when that refused to deter him, he decided to have more kids to make him lose his resolve. After Natsuo's birth, Shoto is born with the Quirk combination Enji desired, to his joy and Toya's devastation. After an incident where Toya had a breakdown and nearly attacked Shoto, Enji banned all interaction between Shoto and the other siblings. By the time he was 13, Toya continued to grow more emotionally distraught with his siblings and mothers, while also training his Quirk to the point his fire grew from red to blue. He wanted to show his father his progress, but upon the realization he had continued his training, a furious Enji took his anger out on Rei. This reached her breaking point, resulting in the incident of Shoto's burning and her hospitalization, followed shortly after by Toya's supposed death as his Quirk went overload and burned the entire mountain down. In the present, Rei declares to Endeavor that he isn't the one suffering the most, and they all carry a small weight in Toya's downfall, so they will help deal with him together. Hawks and Best Jeanist then arrive, telling Endeavor about the current state of the world and requesting a team-up to help solve their problems together. Hawks then asks him about "One For All", as Endeavor's mention of it during the battle with Shigaraki has spread to the public asking questions, leading him to tell them about Midoriya. Meanwhile, All Might continues to watch over Midoriya alone, knowing he is currently having a conversation with the predecessors of One For All.

name : yamai yutaka position ( s ) : leader of yamai syndicate, former member of tabata family. race : human gender : male sexuality : bisexual relationship status : single ; verse dependent. nationality : japanese/american ( obtained ). age : 51 ( ages in real time ) birthday : 1973/01/31 birthplace : tokyo, japan. height : 6'0" ( 184cm ) weight : 74kg ( 163lbs )
family : tba.
yamai was known to be a reckless young yakuza when he was part of the tojo clan, his recklessness is what resulted him in running to hawaii. when in hawaii, he forms his own group, the yamai syndicate of men that were associated with him, & eventually, any japanese citizen in hawaii who were seeking a safe haven, he is able to obtain them american citizenships.
he is cold, but caring in a way, & has a sense of honour, he doesn't have any satisfaction fighting someone when they are down. he is seen as a real yakuza by ichiban who he ends up bonding with as much as he finds that annoying. ichiban gets him to unleash a side of himself that isn't usually shown.
yamai was an ordinary member of the tabata family in his early years of a yakuza. him, & his comrades were mostly in charge of making money which saw its way to his patriarch's wife, tabata yui. she would spend it all within a wild night of shopping, all the luxuries that a woman could wish for. whilst anyone else would see their hard work took for granted, yamai loved to see her like this, it resulted in him falling in love with yui, even if she was his patriarch's wife, he wanted to have her. he grew close enough with yui for yui to reveal that she was already having an affair with the tabata family captain, & that she required her husband taken care of.
against all things telling him not to, yamai carried out the request, & murdered his boss in hopes that he & yui would have a chance together, instead, yui turns on him, ripping her clothes, & pretending that yamai had came onto her to her husband's men. yamai had no other choice at that point to run from both the family he sworn to, & the japanese law enforcement. the experience left him cold, & suffering for thirty long years in the aftermath.
he eventually landed in hawaii, with a couple of men that stayed by his side, that knew the truth of what went down. he formed the yamai syndicate, managed to obtain an american citizenship, & made night street his turf ; converting an old movie theatre into his office, as well as a cabaret club where mainly older veteran hostesses would do business. the people of night street grew loyal to yamai, they became extremely protective over him, regardless if they knew why he was hiding away in hawaii, they cared for him as much as he cared for them.
in a way, yamai considers this atonement for what he did, that in this island away from it all, he'll start over, & do things right. he's no longer as reckless he was when he was a young yakuza, he also doesn't like to consider the syndicate a yakuza, but rather its own thing.
as the years go by, yamai finds his syndicate has grown largely in size, but in no way rivalling the other gangs of hawaii. when he notices the other gangs all seem to be after a woman known as akane, yamai figures if he can get her, it'll give his group a leg up, but not really knowing the reasoning of it.
eventually, a man that has been so saddled by debt from his group, agrees to join him, this is tomizawa, & little did yamai know that recruiting tomizawa would have him meeting with ichiban, & the dragon of dojima ... the dragon of dojima being an old face that yamai had saw before, & had heard all the legends of. even when in hawaii, news of the dragon came to him, he had grew kind of obsessed with the man, wanting to challenge him to a fight.
as time goes on, yamai eventually lets tomizawa go free, not really caring what he does anymore, he knows he isn't going to get his errand boy back, not after ichiban has given him other options in life. instead, he sets his sights on kiryu, wanting to have a fight with him, but when he eventually captures kiryu, with the doctor by his side, he can't bring himself to fight a sick man, instead he cares for him until ichiban & his gang come to retrieve him. he also eventually learns from ichiban the reason why the other gangs of hawaii are searching for akane, & agrees to call off the search as he wants to take no part in the killing of an innocent child. he is however reluctant to help out, & tells ichiban to leave his turf.
the other gangs caught wind of this, & start harassing the yamai syndicate, after some time, when their goals align with each other, yamai agrees to help ichiban, in a way again, making his past wrongs right. he helps them get akane, & lani to japanese shores, but as they reach there, date is waiting, & recognises yamai, & calls for his arrest.
yamai makes to run, which would only cause his sentence to be longer in the end, but he runs to the hospital which yui is kept in, fully intending to take revenge, he looks at her, in her death bed, & can't bring himself to do it when he notices how ill she is. when ichiban & the others find him, he doesn't put up any fight, he agrees to hand himself in, & do his time.
whilst he is in jail, his sentence is shortened as ichiban tells the law enforcement what happened, what he was told by yamai himself, & yamai is given another trial, & confirms as much. his sentence which was originally twenty years became only six years.

> . . .
05/01/SUN-Early morning | Shopping District, South
With a wallet packed full with money, you strolled through the shopping district. Even though it was slightly cloudy, the weather was pleasant as people still roamed about the district.
From beside you, Izanami looked at the list that she wrote down herself. “So we’re starting with your books...”
“I finished them all in one night.” You said to her, remembering how your knowledge improved despite your eye bags.
“Then we see new weapons in Daidara’s shop.”
"Chie and Yukiko need to catch up."
"And... You need ingredients to make the boxed lunches."
You sighed but you didn't oppose the Dojimas idea that you were making the boxed lunches. Nanako was too excited for the long weekend and even Dojima wanted to spend time with his daughter. Even if you hadn't known them for long, you wanted to try and get them to bond together soon. You had thought to follow Nanako's suggestion and go to Junes instead so you wouldn't cook but you feared that Dojima wouldn't like to listen to the catchy tune over and over again.
Seeing the bookstore, you walked towards it but stopped when you spotted a familiar girl walking outside. She held a book in her hands and by the look of her eyes, she seemed excited by it.
"Marie?" You said to her. She yelped at your call, fumbling over her book rather comically before hiding it behind her back. Her face was flushed deeply with red as she regarded you with a glare.
"Wh-What are you doing surprising me all of a sudden?!" She screeched, not caring about the bystanders watching. "S-Stupid! You're stupid! I hate you!"
You blinked at her outburst before looking down at her book. "I didn't know you know the concept of buying stuff."
One of her eyebrows raised up. "B-Buy? What the heck is that?"
Your eyes widened. "You mean you stole that book?!"
As if on cue, the owner of the bookstore knocked on his window, mouthing some unintelligible words and pointing at Marie's book. If it wasn't for the glass window, you were sure that everyone in the area would hear his cussing.
"How could you have no money when I pay to remember Personas from Margaret?" You questioned her, already fishing out your wallet.
"How should I know?!" She replied back, stepping behind Izanami as if she could stop the man.
Izanami shook her head. "Good grief..."
---
"Don't you have a curfew when you go back to the Velvet Room?" You asked her once you resolved the stolen book problem. Even though the poem book was fairly inexpensive, it already made a dent on your finances just for the books.
Marie's face huffed even more. "What do you take me for? A kid?! Just so you know, I'm not gonna help you when you go back inside that stuffy car!"
You shrugged. "You were the one who had no concept of monetary value."
She choked but she didn't refute back. The poem book that had been the center of trouble was back in her hands, unscathed and paid for. You wondered if she liked to read or write poems.
Beside you, Izanami seemed to have vocalized your thoughts. "Do you like poetry, Marie?"
She stiffened from your Persona's question but her red blush gave her answer away.
"Not much to do in the car unless I come in, huh?" You said to her, lips quirking into a smirk at the thought of the three people inside the limousine just waiting for you to come back. Come to think of it, they had a bunch of drinks inside the vehicle-are they all adults then?
She clicked her tongue and looked away from you. “Don’t take words out of my mouth! It’s not like I wanted for you to come by!”
“Sure…” You drawled out. “Anyway, you want to join me on my shopping spree?”
Her blush slowly died down. “S-Shopping?”
Izanami nodded to the list that she’s holding. “We have quite a few things we need to get now that we have a new team member.”
Marie regarded her with a nod before crossing her arms. “Okay. And it’s not because I’m bored out of my mind waiting in the car.”
You chuckled at her response as you entered Daidara's shop with her. It was apparent that she's never been inside the shop, for her eyes widened at the sight of different weapons and armor that covered the walls. You continued to watch her childlike wonder before Daidara cleared his throat.
You turned to him, turning your back against Marie as you hauled your materials to his counter. "Oh, and Marie? Don't touch anything."
"What?"
Before you could repeat yourself, a crash followed and soon a feminine screech inside the shop.
Your eye twitched as you looked at Daidara with a grimace. "Would taking the most expensive weapons be enough for compensation?"
Behind you, Izanami sighed. "Good grief…"
05/01/SUN-Afternoon | Junes
You had considered your options for buying ingredients. On one hand, you wanted to support local businesses and their products...
On the other hand, maybe Nanako would be happy to hear that you made lunches out of ingredients from Junes.
You decided on the latter, Izanami dragging Marie as she tried to carry the bag of new weapons in one hand.
"What's this place now?" Marie asked you, looking around the underground grocery. Before anyone became suspicious, Izanami handed you the bag as you carried it on your back. The added weight made you groan but you continued on as you grabbed a cart.
"It's a grocery store." You replied to her, rolling the cart to the ingredients section. "I'm gonna cook for my family."
"Family?" Marie tested the word, almost sounding funny when you saw her struggling with it.
"Yeah," you said before realizing how awkward it would be to leave it at that, "is Margaret not like your relative or something?"
Marie shrugged, walking beside you in stride as she looked at the different types of miso paste brands. "She keeps annoying me so I don't think I want her as a relative."
"Huh…" You sighed out, getting the miso base as you went to another section of the store. "What's up with the Velvet Room anyway? Did you want to be inside a car for the rest of your life?"
You didn't hear her for a while except her boots tapping against the floor as your cart was steadily filling with ingredients. Marie was oddly quiet, so quiet that you and Izanami looked back at her. The girl looked like she was deep in thought, her eyebrows drawn in as though she was having an existential crisis.
Before you could ask her if she was okay, a familiar voice called your name. Yosuke was carrying a crate filled with canned tomato sauce as Jiraiya followed him, obviously bored out of his mind. Adorably enough, Jiraiya was wearing the same Junes apron. How did people not freak out over a floating apron, you didn't want to ask.
"What brings you here?" Yosuke asks you before heaving the heavy crate down on the floor. You winced when you heard an audible crack when he straightened his back.
"Just shopping to cook for Golden Week." You replied to him. "Work being too hard on you?"
He groaned tiredly. "No kidding. Just when I thought I can relax, there's a stupid sale that's happening just for the week."
You patted his back as an apology for the pain he experienced and many more in the upcoming week.
"And what are you doing?" Izanami questioned Jiraiya, who was busy fiddling with his apron that surprisingly fitted him.
"Moral support." He said simply. "Can't really touch objects without people thinking Junes is haunted so I try my best. Besides, the apron looks good on me."
"Speaking of…" Izanami trailed off, looking at the apron. It was definitely not Asian size as it stretched to accommodate Jiraya's body. She wasn't aware that there were sizes that were big enough to fit an almost 7 ft. tall being.
"Y'know, you don't have to hide it." Jiraiya said, snapping her out of her thinking. "You'd look good in an apron. Or would you rather wear mine…?"
She let out an aggravated sigh before igniting her fingers with electricity and zapping Jiraiya's side. He let out a high-pitched yelp, his body convulsing before he squirmed away from the goddess. His scarf was burned to a degree as smoke emanated from his body.
"You never change." Izanami said dryly. "And how does the apron fit you? And how is anyone not screaming at the sight of a floating apron?"
Jiraiya made a sound in his throat, an alternative to how he doesn't seem to have a mouth. He then looked down at his apron, a hand lifting and fumbling at the fabric before letting it drop.
"I honestly don't know."
While the Personas were talking, Marie, who was busy watching you comfort a crying boy, went to watch the Personas. She walked over, arms crossed as she stared at the other Persona that belonged to Yosuke.
Jiraiya took notice of the new girl's stare and immediately floated over to her, a flirtatious line ready in him as he--
"Get away from me." Marie said to him in her absolute, most dead voice.
Jiraiya, currently shocked that she could see him, dropped down from his floating stance as he scrambled on the floor. The sight was surprising but comical to Izanami as she laughed at the sight of the ninja frog struggling to recover from the attack.
Hearing Jiraiya’s struggling sounds, you looked to where your Personas are. The sight of Izanami laughing at Jiraiya and Marie staring at the two of them.
“Wait—” Yosuke gasped out, looking at Marie. “She can see them?!”
“Weird story.” You said to him. “Anyway, you think you can ring me up with some ingredients?”
"Huh? O-Oh sure…"
He then led you towards the section that you needed, all the while conversing with you about plans for Golden Week. It soon spiralled into having a talk about personal things that you two like. You felt closer to Yosuke than before.
"Oh yeah… When did our Personas can touch stuff?"
"... No clue."
Persona Time
After walking Marie back home (and quickly explaining about Skill Cards), she plopped down on the sofa as she sighed from how tired she was. Feeling the book inside of her bag, she fished it out and stared at the hardbound cover.
"You seem to have enjoyed your day out."
She flinched then glared at Margaret, the woman looking at her with the annoying stare that she didn't like. It's the type of stare that it makes her feel like Margaret is prying at her secrets. She hates it.
"Shut up." She said to Margaret, not even bothering to put up a fight.
The elder woman chuckled, her nails tapping against the Persona Compendium in an elegant manner before speaking again. "I'll be willing to let you out more as long as you try not to make too much noise inside the room."
Marie choked before glaring at her.
"Like that."
Marie clicked her tongue before looking away. Grabbing her notebook and pencil from her bag, she angrily wrote on the paper, all the while muttering about a certain platinum-blonde woman.
Both Margaret and Igor stared at her, unamused of her usual antiques. They really can't wait for you to come by again.

Three huh, hooboy
~~
Ritsuko wasn’t sure what she was expecting from the third child, no one was since Gendo had lost him, but the smile boy wearing an honest to god black cloak and ornate rings wasn’t it.
“So you’re telling me I was asked to come here in order to pilot a giant robot to fight that giant angel thing?” Shinji asked. “You can’t be serious!” Misato protested. “He’s had no training.” “AWESOME! And they said coming here was a bad idea! It’s even my color. Load me up!” Misato resisted the urge to facepalm. Where was this fearlessness on the way in?
A1 Clips attached Shinji was brought in the entry plug and the LCL started filling in. “Should I be concerned?” Shinji asked, still remarkably calm for the situation.
“The liquid is breathable, you were oxygenated this way for nine months after all.” Ritsuko explained calmly.
“Not what I was worried about- oh hey, this stuff tastes great!” Many of the the bridge workers, who’d grown to tolerate the smell of LCL looked at Unit 01 in confusion and a little disgust.
Gendo’s Kid Ritsuko reminded herself. “Unit 01 Launch.”
“Sure he climbs into the giant robot, but not my car.” Misato grumbled. “Okay Shinji, I need you to focus on walking.” The mecha took one tentative step. Then another. Shinji giggled and the robot began to bounce on it’s toes, before slipping and landing on it’s behind.
“Shinji are you okay?” He didn’t seem damaged from the feed, but the life sign readers were malfunctioning and not telling Ritsuko anything. “All okay-dokey.” Shinji said in a sing-song voice before straightening himself out. “Oh look, there’s the Angel. LET’S WRASSLE!” “Ritusko what the hell is going on?” Misato asked as Shinji attempted to suplex the Third Angel. “He wasn’t acting anything like this before.” “It just a hunch, since we don’t have enough data and the readouts aren’t calibrated properly to him,” which sounded better than saying they weren’t working, “But I believe he’s having a unique reaction to the LCL which is putting him in a hyperoxygenated state which-.” She sighed, realizing she had to simplify. “He’s getting high off the LCL.”
“That can happen?” Misato asked, aghast.
“There’s no evidence of it happening before, but that doesn’t mean it’s impossible. He’s been getting progressively more twitchy the longer he’s in there.” She gestured to the plug feed where Shinji was drumming his fingers on the controls, tapping his feet, and grinning like a loon.
“Oh God, we have to pull him out.” MIsato had paled considerably. She didn’t even want to think about the damage that could be done in this state. “Shinji you need to-” “DEATHTRON HAMMER!” Shinji charged at the Third Angel shoulder first. The AT Fields clashed, creating a red aura around Shinji as he broke through and began pummeling the Third Angel before suddenly retreating and climbing on top of the deployment shaft. “And now the grand finale. Passed down through the Valentine Family, ARTEM BUSTER!” Cackling he leapt off the shaft and landed elbow first, right on the Third Angel’s core. The resultant explosion blew him off, causing him to ragdoll through the air, before landing in one of the mountains.
“We got lucky,” Misato said grimly.
~
Section 2 seemed all to happy to shove the boy at Ritsuko. He was still under the effects of the LCL and was talking a mile a minute, occasionally going into a fighting pose and punching the air a few times as if to make a point.
Ritsuko pinched the bridge of her nose. As Misato said, they’d gotten lucky he’d defeated the Angel in this state. He clearly wouldn’t be able to pilot until they could counter whatever he was reacting to in the LCL. “Shinji, we need to give you an exam since the senors in the EVA were malfunctioning and not picking up anything.” Shinji paused in his reenactment of his fight. “You mean like beating and heartbeat and stuff?” He went back to his play fighting the air.
“That’s correct.” Ritsuko felt a headache coming on. “Your sensors are probably fine.” Shinji tried to do a spin kick and failing. “I just don’t have any.”
“You don’t have any life signs?” “Nope.” Shinji gave them a big grin, with canine teeth that were a little too long and sharp. “I’m a vampire.”
The two college roommates looked at each other. “Shinji, vampires aren’t real.” Misato started to explain.
In response Shinji turned into a purple hued bat and began an erratic flight in circles, cackling all the way, not knowing how many plans just went up in smoke.
~~~~
Shinji raised by someone else is a common enough trope in fanfiction. I at one point thought of trying my hand at it and went with the Valentine Vampires from Shadow Hearts. It never got past the planning stage, but damned if this wasn’t going to be a fun Shinji
(Note: Shinji ‘died’ in a car crash before being brought back as a vampire by Hilda, so he’s terrified of being in cars)
(More under cut)
~~ “Later, I need to talk to you. About The Case.” There had been a time when 'The Case' had been the drunk driver that hit his wife. Now it was the dark cloud that had hung over Inaba for nearly a year.
Yuu froze. “Is something wrong?”
“No I just – I just need a little more information,” Dojima decided. A hell of a lot more was more truthful.
Yuu nodded. “After Nanako goes to bed, I'll tell you anything you want to know.”The emphasis on the word 'want' puzzled Dojima. As they sat down Nanako reach for the remote and flicked on the TV. Dojima felt a slight chill down his spine, knowing that his daughter had once gone through a similar screen.
Then it hit him. The reason for Yuu's odd manner of speech was to give Dojima an out on some things he might be disturbed by. What little Dojima knew about the occurrences was frightening and mind blowing. Yuu was giving him a way out, trying to protect him from having his world blown apart even further.
Stupid kid, always trying to protect everyone around him. It was moments like this that Dojima would never admit to. Watching his nephew shine in sports and academia was something for any family member to be proud of. But it was watching how he cared and looked out for people, how he protected everyone he came across with the same ferocity that Dojima himself had, that made him wish Yuu had been his son, not his sister's.
Still, Yuu could protect his friends, Nanako, and any other passerby he met, but trying to protect his uncle was taking it too far.
The evening seemed to crawl by at a snail's pace. It seemed a small eternity before Dojima finally finished reading his daughter a bedtime story and turned out her lights.
Yuu was waiting for him in his room, two cups of tea steaming on his table. Dojima tried to start the conversation, but his nephew cut him off. “Ten minutes”
“What?”
“It normally takes Nanako about ten minutes to fall asleep. I don't want her listening in on this conversation.” And thus began the longest ten minutes in Dojima's life.
Finally Yuu put down his tea and looked Dojima in the eye. “What do you want to know?”
“Everything.” It's more than just the details of the murders. It what his nephew has been through this past year and why on Earth he didn't tell anyone. He did muttered Dojima's subconscious. Twice
“This is your last chance to back out,” Yuu warned. Receiving no reply, he sighed. “It began the day after Yamano's body was found. Yosuke was treating me to a meal as a welcome to town and Chie came along. We met Saki-sempai...” Yuu stopped and shook his head. He hadn't known and there was nothing he could have done at that point. “As we parted, Chie told us about this Urban Myth, the Midnight Channel. That if you looked into a turned off TV at midnight on a rainy evening, you'll see your soulmate.”
Dojima raised an eyebrow.
“Don't give me that look. I know how childish it sounds, but I had already seen Chie play the Nutcracker Suite on Yosuke with very little provocation, and besides, what could it hurt? It wasn't like anything would actually happen.” Yuu chuckled self deprecatingly. “As the clock struck midnight, I looked out the window. Three streetlamps glowed; red, yellow, and blue. The rain was light, but you could still hear the patter on the roof and pavement.”
Dojima felt a chill run up his spine in a way that he hadn't since he was a small child. The faraway look in his nephew's eyes told him he wasn't just telling the story, he was narrating it as he relived the events in his mind.“When I first heard static coming from the television, I thought it was my imagination. I turned around to see the television, that has been off a second ago, was on. I saw flashes of a girl, running from something in fear. The images only lasted a few seconds, then faded to nothing, leaving only the slight glow of a TV that should have been turned off. That's when I heard the voice.”
“I'm still not sure what it was, Izanagi perhaps,-” Yuu continued, ignoring the question his uncle was about to ask, or perhaps too far gone in the memory to realize Dojima had been about to interrupt. “-it's voice seemed to cleave my body in two. I thought my head would explode from the pain. It's word echoed through me: 'I am Thou and Thou art I. Thou art the one who opens the door'.And then – silence.”
Tension left Yuu's frame. “The only sound came from rain, the only light from the streetlamps. I wasn't even sure if what had just happened was real or not.” Yuu turned from his uncle, towards the TV. “I don't know what I was thinking. At that point, I'm not even sure I was. I just reached out...” Following his narrative, Yuu stretched his right hand out, his fingertip barely touching the screen.
Dojima felt his heart leap into his throat as a ripple pattern flowed across the screen from the contact. Yuu had yanked his hand back, the tentatively reached out again. This time he didn't pull back, pushing his am into the screen nearly up to his shoulder.
Yuu looked at him calmly, completely unphased by how impossible what he was doing was. “This is how it started Uncle. If I hadn't stayed up that night, perhaps I never would have gotten involved.” He pulled his hand back out. “The voice in my head, the images that showed on the Midnight channel, the power that lets me pass through the door, all were important to solving the case.”
“You have a lot of unused vacation time. It's time to call it in. I knew eventually you'd want to know the whole story and we'd discussed how to explain. We decided the best way was to walk you down our path, to reenact the major moments of the case. Tomorrow we'll head to the one place that was the key to our investigation. I'll continue the story there, where we first got involved.” Yuu's expression softened. The take charge tone he had been using evened out to the gentle voice he associated with his nephew. “I know what you just saw isn't easy to accept. It wasn't easy for me either, for any of us. There's no nice way to explain everything that happened-”
“There's never a nice way to explain murder,” Dojima growled, trying the quiet his thumping heart. A large part of his mind trying to find some explanation for what he just saw.
“No, there isn't, but this...it got messier in far more personal ways. You'll see. Rise and Naoto are coming over tomorrow to play with Nanako. And we'll begin on the path of the investigation. You should get some rest.”
“And you expect me to just fall asleep tonight?” Dojima asked dryly, not sure if he was being serious or trying to lighten the mood.
“It would be best, tomorrow will be tiring. That place always is.”
“That place?”
“Trust me,” It wasn’t a statement, from his nephew, but a plea. Because Dojima hadn’t trusted him on the important things. And because of that a bunch of kids had to face a murderer alone.
“I do.” More of a promise than a statement. That he wouldn’t discount what his nephew told him ever again.
~~~~ One of the few things that left be dissatisfied in Persona 4 was Dojima’s whole ‘lets not talk about it’ after the fact. He’s the type of person who’d need to know and understand before he could put it to bed in his mind. So this, Backside of the TV would be the group walking him through it to try and gain that understanding.
~~
A haunted looking man stared into his reflection in the bathroom mirror. He had come so far, from the child of poor farmers in his home country to being one of the top programmers in a large-scale American cooperation. Was he really prepared to throw it all away?
There was no doubt about it, a product recall at the late stage would destroy global trust in the company. Competitors could easily move in and remove his company from the picture. Not only would he certainly be fired, but he would be unhireable. All for something that had less than a one in a million chance of happening.
But what if it does happens, eh? His conscience whispered at him. Could you go on living with yourself knowing some poor soul gets hurt because you did NOTHING?
The man splashed some cold water on his face. It wouldn't do to lose control of his emotions. There was only one thing he could do, and he was going to do it with pride and dignity. Drying his face with a towel, the man marched out of the restroom with a renewed sense of purpose. He marched to the main meeting room, where all the major stockholders and even the company president were waiting.
Trying not to let his fear show, he moved to the podium, sliding his notes and proofs into the small cubby within it. One final deep breath and it was time...
“Gentlemen,” began Rodrick McStewart, “The Pinnacle chip is flawed.”
“A 'flaw'?” Armando Guitierrez's voice sounded innocently curious, but it was all Roddy could do to keep from shivering. “What kind of 'flaw'?”
“One I've never seen before,” Roddy answered honestly. “If activated, the chip's ability to increase the rate of information flow goes into overdrive, the consequence of which are, to say the least, dire.”
One of the stockholders leaned forward “What do you mean 'dire'?”
McStewart sighed. “The computer would start downloading information from the internet at an unseen rate. And not just one or two files, it would try to download the whole bloody thing. Rather than slowing down as this continues, it speeds up causing the system to critically overheat in under a minute. It's not unlikely the computer would explode, causing serious damage to the user in the process.”
It was silent as a morgue. “W-What are the odds of this happening?” Another suited man asked.
Crud. He was hoping that wouldn't come up. “I've calculated the odds at four hundred and fifty million to one.” As he feared, he watched the entire boardroom relax, joking amongst themselves that they had been scared of nothing. The fools saw such a large number as unreachable. But the truth was the chip had already sold over 60 million units on pre-order alone. In under a year it would reach five hundred million, practically guaranteeing at least one accident.
Guitierrez took a deep breath. “Thank you for bringing this to our attention, Roddy. I will discuss this with the shareholders. If you would please wait in my office, we can discuss this further and see how we can salvage this.”
He knew he was being dismissed, but it was more than he had thought he would get. At least Guitierrez was willing to listen to him in private, even if he was going to spend the next hour telling the stockholders there was no problem.
Guitierrex's office was a long rectangular room, the north side of which was completely glass. The mahogony deck used the window as a backdrop. Roddy flopped down in the wheeled leather chair in front of the desk and pulled out his notes. On one of the pages was a picture of the Pinnacle chip focused in on it most important feature, the 'Broken Arrow' core. Many times McStewart wished he could have spoke with the R&D team that had developed it. It's power was amazing, McStewart was sure the chip he had built around it wasn't accessing a fraction of it's true power.
“Thank you for your patience Roddy, no sit, sit” Guitierrez gestured for the programmer to remain sitting in the wheeled leather chair. “How could this has happened?
“The Broken Arrow core is so powerful. Moreso than we ever could have guessed. A system built around it would probably be the most powerful system in existence, but a normal computer just can't safely handle it.”
“I see,” Guitierrez walked to the north wall of his office, which was a solid glass window letting in the cold December sun. “We shall have to rally as quickly as possible. How many other developers are aware of the flaw?”
“None, I didn't want to start a panic, not until I was completely sure.”
Guitierrez turned his back from the window “A wise move Roddy,” He gripped the back of Roddy's chair. “I thank you for your final service to this company.”
Roddy had expected to be fired. What he hadn't expected was for his employer to start pushing the chair at top speed towards the window. He also hadn't expected the window to not me made of hurricane glass.
Shards of shattered glass fell with him as he tumbled out the window. He hit a tree branch with a thud that probably broke all his ribs but halted his fall enough to survive it. As quickly as he could he made his way to his car. He wished he could just call an ambulance, but he didn’t want to give Guitierrez the chance to finish the job.
Elswhere, Debbie Douglas put in the preorder for one of those Pinnacle chips. It would be just the perfect thing to give Dexter for Christmas.

Sega has released new information and screenshots for Yakuza: Like a Dragon introducing Daigo Dojima, Masaru Watase, and “Legendary Yakuza” Delivery Help characters.
Get the details below.
■ Characters
The Tojo Clan of the East, and the Omi Alliance of the West—the following is an introduction to Daigo Dojima and Masaru Watase, who have respectfully supported the two major yakuza organizations.
Daigo Dojima (voiced by Satoshi Tokushige)
The former sixth chairman of the Tojo Clan. A man who has been supporting the Tojo Clan for a long time.
He went missing following the destruction of the Tojo Clan via the “Kamurocho 3K Operation” by the metropolitan police.
Masaru Watase (voiced by Rintarou Nishi)
The eighth wakagashira of the Omi Alliance and the head of the Alliance’s subsidiary family, the Watase Family. He is the Omi Alliance’s number two, but is currently serving time in prison.
He appoints Masumi Arakawa as the substitute wakagashira in his absence.
■ Legendary Yakuza Members Appear as Delivery Help Summons
The “Legendary Yakuza,” characters who have appeared in previous entries in the Yakuza series, will also be available as “Delivery Help” characters that can be summoned as powerful support in battle by spending money. Each of these characters requires a hefty sum of money to summon.
Kazuma Kiryu – Skill Name: “True Yinglong Kiwami”
Kiryu, the legendary Dragon of Dojima, appears with his usual overwhelming aura and unleashes a strong blow at the enemy clad in a blue, fiery dragon.
Taiga Saejima – Skill Name: “Fierce Tiger Whirlwind”
Saeijma swings a manhole cover with superhuman strength to cause a tornado. The wind swallows up the surrounding signboards and vehicles, transforming into a storm of iron clusters that strikes the enemy.
Goro Majima – Skill Name: “Purple Lightning Demon Fire Blade”
Majima fires off countless daggers while running down the surface of a building that shines in the moonlight. Flashes of lightning are called upon the daggers that pierce the earth like lightning rods, burning enemies to dust.
Daigo Dojima – Skill Name: “Eulogy of the Yakuza”
Daigo Dojima leads the Tojo Clan as its sixth chairman. Under Daigo’s command, the violent yakuza of the Tojo Clan gather and shower the enemy in a downpour of gunfire.
Masaru Watase – Skill Name: “Asura Hundred Fissure Palms”
Watase batters the enemy with strong fists. The heat causes countless mirages of his arms, creating the appearance of Asura.
Yakuza: Like a Dragon is due out for PlayStation 4 on January 16, 2020 in Japan, and in 2020 in the Americas and Europe. A demo is available now. Majima’s Life Work: A MajiMako Conclusion
Here it is. We’ve finally made it to Majima Everywhere. I’m sorry that my hiatus felt like forever, but a lot has been going on recently in terms of my friends and boyfriend, and I just had to get back into this to regain my sanity.
But enough about me, you’re here for the fan-fiction!
Majima spends a lot of time trying to figure out what makes Kiryu-chan tick. Whether it's all thoroughly planned out or a coincidence varies, but it's still a good time, all in all. With his kids pitching in once in a while and his wife being the main motive behind most of these escapades, Kiryu-chan has some pretty tough velcro sneakers to fill.
Chapter 01: Damn (Officer Majima)
Chapter 02: Smiles, Free! Kiryu-chan, Free! (Smile Burger)
Chapter 03: Press F (Sera’s Funeral)
Chapter 04: Brawl in the Family
Chapter 05: Caged Memories (Batting Cages)
Chapter 06: The Fifth Stage
Chapter 07: Does Mother Know Best?
Chapter 08: Chew the Fat (Kidnapping)
Chapter 09: Bedside Manners
Chapter 10: STIJL Good (Lord of the Night)
Chapter 11: Hot Damn! (Passionate Manly Bathhouse Battle)
Chapter 12: Shop ‘Til Ya Drop! (Peekaboo)
Chapter 13: Family Meeting (Zombie)
Chapter 14: Broken Threads
Chapter 15: The Dragon of Majima
Chapter 16: Step & Go! (Everyone’s Idol Goro)
Chapter 17: The Boys are Back in Town (Dojima’s Men)
Chapter 18: Patching Things Up (Again).
Chapter 19: Some Sweet Noise (Shangri-La)
Chapter 20: Coming To
Chapter 21: A Visit from Your Uncle Kazzy
One-offs (I’ve decided that I’ll only do these chapters upon request. I’ll post them here first, then put them in One-offs in AO3)
Chapter 22: Goro-kun (Pocket Circuit)
Chapter 23: A Children’s Card Game (MesuKing)
Chapter 24: Abducted (SEGA Arcade)
Chapter 25: Shots and Shots (Pool)

Today on Haruka and Daigo sibling dynamic indulgence: both of them thinking the other is Kiryu's Favorite™
Daigo thinks Haruka is the favorite because Kiryu did so much for her: leave the Tojo Clan, leave her for the sake of her future, fought an army's worth of Yakuza to keep her safe
Haruka thinks Daigo is the favorite because he and Kiryu known each other for longer and bonded in a way that they never could. She knows Kiryu gets his feelings across best through fighting and she never got that with him.
They both love their dad but they also come to the conclusion that both of them were given responsibilities when they were too young. Daigo being the Tojo clan chairman in his 30s while Haruka had to be a mini adult for everyone at Morning Glory.
Haruka wishing that Kiryu didn't get mixed up in Tojo clan affairs so often, while Daigo wonders if the Tojo clan wouldn't have been on the constant brink of collapsed if he just Stayed as fourth chairman.
Then they both realize that all they wanted was their dad to Stay and then they go cry their heart out at karaoke together.
