help I just remembered how wwx said “how dare you judge lan zhan just because he’s not very expressive! he doesn’t think he’s better than anyone!” to the face of the man who was once told by lwj “you are not qualified to speak to me’ peak comedy

Let’s talk Yi City Arc! I’ve seen a few posts since my time in the fandom that talks about the Yi City Arc as unnecessary or out of place in the whole of the mdzs narrative. I’ve even seen some suggest that the disconnect is because Yi City was originally a separate story to mdzs, a sort of prototype, if you will, to explain it away. I, too, after my first read questioned the significance of this arc to the overall story. However, the Yi City arc and its placement so early in the novel is actually just a huge and very clever spoiler to most of the important plot points of the overarching story… if you know what plot points to look for, which an un-spoiled first-time reader would not. So let’s talk about those spoilers:
1) The righteous cultivation clans’ refusal to stand against evil—and, really, their indulgence of it—leads to the wiping out of an entire clan and a monastery as well as the deaths of two powerful cultivators unaffiliated with any major sect.
The “righteous” cultivation clans happily ignore that fact that the Jin Clan is amassing power through unscrupulous guest disciples, and it is only when Xiao Xingchen, an outsider, brings the crime against the Chang Clan to light do they bother to pretend to do anything about it. However behind the scenes, the Jin Clan assassinates their only real opposition, and the other clans, great and small, continue to do nothing as Xue Yang is released to commit another massacre. The Jin are never held responsible for their actions. Likewise, all the clans turn away from Wei Wuxian, an outsider, when he calls out the Jin Clan’s crimes against the Wen remnants and accuses them of amassing power via poaching vassal clans and attempting to steal his tools. Behind the scenes, the Jin work to undermine Wei Wuxian’s reputation before joining in to massacre Wei Wuxian and the Wen remnants. The Jin are never held accountable for this, which directly leads into the Xue Yang situation.
2) Xiao Xingchen has his reputation slandered by Xue Yang killing others using his sword.
After Xiao Xingchen kills himself, Xue Yang begins using his sword to enact “vengeance” on the remnants of the Chang Clan, who he considers as having “betrayed” Xiao Xingchen. Finding the signature of Xiao Xingchen’s sword on the slain bodies leads the cultivation world to believe that a disillusioned Xiao Xingchen is killing in revenge. In much the same way, Wei Wuxian is used as a scapegoat by the cultivation world whenever bad things happen, such as the presence of walking corpses or the mass digging of graves. In neither situation does any clan investigate the true events of the situations, happy to blame the easiest suspect and allow the unrest to continue. In both situations, Xiao Xingchen and Wei Wuxian are eventually found innocent of the crimes for which they are accused, and the true culprit is revealed.
3) Xiao Xingchen is betrayed by someone he considered close to him, which eventually leads to his death.
Xiao Xingchen, due to being literally blinded by his sacrifice, ends up running into, rescuing, and caring for his mortal enemy, Xue Yang. Taking advantage of Xiao Xingchen’s blindness, Xue Yang tricks him into murdering a bunch of innocents and his best friend, causing him to commit suicide. Wei Wuxian, similarly, is betrayed by a close friend he kept near, figuratively blinded by a former childhood friendship and the present debt he felt owed to said friend’s parents. This misplaced trust directly leads to his death.
4) Xiao Xingchen must give up his eyes for Song Lan to see again, because Baoshan Sanren is not magical.
This is probably the biggest spoiler of the entire arc, but by the time you get to where this information is relevant, you’d probably have forgotten that this was even said. Xue Yang blinds Song Lan after destroying his home, and to atone for this, Xiao Xingchen goes to his master, Baoshan Sanren, to beg for her help. However, Baoshan Sanren cannot make something out of nothing. Mxtx explicitly writes that tidbit into the narration. Song Lan goes up the mountain blind and comes down with eyes. Xiao Xingchen goes up the mountain with eyes and comes down blind. Song Lan was given Xiao Xingchen’s eyes.
Much later in the story, Jiang Cheng loses his golden core. Wei Wuxian offers the miracle solution of Baoshan Sanren “giving” him a new one. Jiang Cheng, obviously skeptical, questions Wei Wuxian up until the moment he must go up “Baoshan Sanren’s mountain” alone. Wei Wuxian descends, alone, looking pale and weak. Later, when Wei Wuxian is ambushed by the Wen, Wen “Core-melting Hand” Zhuliu touches him and is visibly shocked by a discovery that he then keeps to himself. Jiang Cheng emerges from the mountain with a new golden core, while Wei Wuxian emerges from the Burial Mounds with a new cultivation method wholly independent of the need for a golden core. The Yi City arc tells us why this is: “Baoshan Sanren” cannot make something out of nothing.
And these are just the major parallels I remember off the top of my head. However, while a reread makes a lot of these parallels directly applicable to specific plot points in Wei Wuxian’s own story, I would argue that the biggest role the explicit paralleling is meant to play for a new reader is to make you question the dominant narrative of the main story. The narration tells us that Wei Wuxian is a bloodthirsty man who may as well be a demon, known for cruelty and vengeance. We see none of that from his character when he is resurrected. Then we get a mini-drama where a man with attributes Wei Wuxian directly relates to, with a story Wei Wuxian directly compares to his own life, is scapegoated by society, killed, then eventually vindicated. If nothing else, the Yi City Arc is meant to make you, as a reader, stop and go “Hey, wait a minute, what if Wei Wuxian isn’t the bad guy here???” And once you understand that, you should start questioning everything the prologue told you, just like the juniors start to question what they were told about Xiao Xingchen post Yi City in their group debrief.

In the mood for...
Sep 7th
~*~
1. So u know how during bm days and 1st seige of bm wwx is often portrayed as guilt ridden/self sacrificing 'I deserve this' loyal 2theend mentality? What about any fics where wwx is horrified and feels betrayed? That jc opinion could be swayed by outsiders, that jc broke their cover up/truce they made during their faked duel where they staged defection. That jc is two faced in his dealings. Just that type of vibe where even if wwx isn't all 'destruction revenge' in response, he takes it personally
Lay my body down by tawaen (M, 48k, WWX & WQ, WWX & WN, wangxian, WWX & JYL, Canon Divergence, Time Travel, Rogue Cultivator WWX, Eventual WangXian, No Golden Core Transfer, Not Cultivation World Friendly, Canon-Typical Violence, Not JC Friendly, What if WWX saw the first siege of the burial mounds and said Nope to the war, OCs, OC point-of-view for one chapter for plot reasons) AU after the fall of LP where WWX gets a glimpse of the future up to the siege & goes 'fuck that & fuc JC in particular'
~*~
2. A) Finished reading this fic (forces of attraction by bleuett) and now I am in the mood for rogue cultivator wwx AU's. It doesn't matter if lwj belongs to a clan or is a rogue too...i'd love M/E rated fic recs for this trope please!!
Hello!! I am in the mood for some of the following tropes/types of fics:
B) rogue cultivator wwx and/or rogue cultivator lwj
C) childhood friends to lovers wangxian/growing up together (any AU works)
D) the jealous/possessive lwj trope feat wwx dating some other male chara/mistaken to be dating that chara
E) dragonji and/or dragonxian fics
F) complete wwx rarepair fics (like non wangxian but with anyone shipped with wwx if its well done)
Please make sure that if the fics are M/E rated, that they only have bottom wwx (I avoid top wwx/switch dynamic like my life depends on it) Thank you!!

5. hi! ITMF Xue Yang centric fics? Ones where he was found by WWX and has a better childhood because of it. I'm fine with any ships or none. Just for reference, I really loved how Xue Yang's character and the relationship between him and Wen Ning developed in Yearning for Miles by Murahi. So if there are any other similar fics, I'll appreciate the recs, thank you!!

6. I'm in the mood for a fic, where Lan Zhan has amnesia (preferably temporary) and doesn't remember anything. He doesn't know what Lan clan is, doesn't remember his family and events and Wei. It could be some injury or some spell. I wonder if there is such fic like that. Not modern au. I would like to see Lan Zhan being oblivious of Lan clan rules and not recognizing his uncle and brother. And being generally very confused of the cultivation world.

I will not have Lan Xichen slander.
He is actually very smart and a great sect leader.
The only mistake he did was not being able to see past Jin Guangyao's kindness towards him and even that isn't his fault because JGY really was that bitch who rose from nothing and had the whole cultivation world in his hand.
Heck he would have continued to have it in his hand if it wasn't for NHS who succeeded in bringing wwx back.
Like thinking Lan Xichen of all people was stupid to not see his real face is both an insult to him and JGY.
Also you people forget that JGY has done a lot of good things as well. He isn't just a bad person, he's a person who is willing to do bad things to keep his power because he will not allow himself to be powerless again.
And when you look at the big picture it makes complete sense Lan Xichen would trust JGY over NMJ.
Lan Xichen has his own strict morals but he also sees the world in all of it's colours and that just shows in him cultivating a technique to be able to drink without getting drunk.
It's not just a fun little thing but shows his own code and how he looks at life.
When we meet him first, we see he is way more forgiving of Wei Wuxian and his antics than any Lan and even encourages Lan Wangji to give it a chance and be friends.
And this point Lan Wangji is just as bad as Qiren when it comes to upholding rules, (not bad as in bad person) and Lan Xichen pushes him towards Wei Wuxian because he clearly is not someone who follows rules blindly and it does help Lan Wangji.
Wei Wuxian is the reason Lan Wangji actually thinks of the rules and considers them, forming his own opinions on them and during all of this Lan Xichen is open and accepting of questions and patience. Because he trusts Wangji will come to the right path eventually and this time it wouldn't be him following rules blindly but they would guide him to the path he wants to take.
And then the war happens and Lan Xichen is forced to abandon his family to protect his sect and he does so.
In his lowest moment he meets JGY and is a witness to his kindness and support and at this moment Lan Xichen could give him nothing and maybe jgy tells him the truth about the general or maybe half a truth, either way, he hears his side too.
And then JGY takes on a very dangerous mission to play spy on WRH and they win mainly because JGY took these steps whole endangering himself, when it could have been so easy for him to betray others.
Also during this time him and NMJ have not been talking about JGY.
And by the time NMJ starts talking about JGY, JGY has done more rights than wrongs in Lan Xichen's book, you can't judge a person by just one action afterall, you need to consider the possibilities. Also his raging screaming and yelling black and white morals is not something that can shake Lan Xichen when he is analysing that at this point JGY is on their side and has been from the start.
Like even the reason for the proposed brotherhood was a political move and not just him wanting for his friends to get along. (When I remove my 3zun goggles*cough*) Because the high friction between Nie Mingjue and Jin clan could have very well started another war because let's remember - NMJ was highly unstable and could easily be triggered into it unless he was held back by something like a sworn brother pact- the sworn brothers pact would bring the largest three clans remaining to be tied together and unable to start another war that would cause even more harm.
Because Lan Xichen's first and foremost priorities are to avoid another war or discord that could cause casualties. He is out there taking disrespect from the kinds of Jin Zixun biting his tongue about Su She to maintain the peace in the cultivation world.
And in defense JGY does try to fix things with NMJ at the start(until nmj insulted his mom which is the trigger for him to have done almost all the on screen kills except maybe wrh) , he is indeed, kind and respectful and he did a lot for Gusu sect, all of that has got to add up.
JGY plays a dirty political game but he also did a lot of good for the cultivation world.
With the side that JGY maintains in front of LXC it's way more surprising that LXC even gave LWJ and WWX a chance to present their case.
But that was also only because Lan Xichen will always love and trust his brother, even if according to him the brother is once again back with his "toxic" situationship that almost killed him 13/16 years ago.
This is the one of the few time he chooses his brother over his sect leader duties.
Because if he was to follow the path as the sect leader the evidence presented until then compared to the words just words and no physical evidence shared by Lwj and WWX it's clear which choice he should have made.
Even in the end when we know that it is a fact that JGY has in fact never harmed or even tried to harm LXC, he still takes a stand against him. Is willing to die beside him for the one mistake he made of trusting JGY and it wasn't a blind trust, it was trust built up over months, years during and after the war.
Anyways, Lan Xichen my beloved you are doing good, great even come out of seclusion 🥺.

The Sin List
okay, so as we all know, it is vitally important that any character we stan must be morally pure and a good example to emulate in real life.
So I have decided to create a list of MDZS characters and their sins, which everyone can easily refer to in order to make sure that they are not following some horrible criminal or murderer!
This was a lot of work, but I'm very proud of it. Just doing my bit to ensure the moral purity of the fandom!
Wei Wuxian - Necromancy, disrespecting his elders, disrespecting the dead, killed Jin Zixuan, punched Jin Zixuan in the face one time, cannibalism, mind control, deviant sexual fantasies, trespassing, oath-breaking, urged Wen Qing to perform untested and possibly fatal operation on Jiang Cheng without his consent.
Lan Wangji - Defied his elders, broke the Lan Clan rules, sexually assaulted Wei Wuxian, deviant sexual fantasies, GBH (JGY)
Jin Guangyao - betrayed and killed Wen Ruohan, betrayed and killed Jin Guangshan, murder (NMJ), murdered assorted people, disrespecting the dead, assorted Spy Things for Wen Ruohan.
Nie Mingjue - Killed a lot of people during the war, verbally abused Nie Huaisang, burned Nie Huaisang's stuff, attempted murder (JGY), attempted murder (JGY), attempted murder (JGY), murder (JGY), killed the Mo family (well, his arm did anyway). In favor of the genocide of the Wen Remnants
Jin Guanshan: Sexual assault, rape, murder, ordering human experimentation with resentful energy to be done by his sect, played both sides during the war, didn't take responsibility for his children, ultimately responsible for getting WWX killed because he wanted the YTT so bad
Wen Ruohan: Attempted world domination, murder etc
Lan Qiren: has a stick up his ass
Su Minshan: Refused to die for the Lan, supported JGY in his efforts to prevent undead Da-ge from killing him. Also cursed Jin Zixun.
Sect Leader Yao: Weathervane politician
Jiang Wanyin: strangled Wei Wuxian that one time, keeps trying to talk to him but is way too tsundere about it, killed many during the war, didn't immediately forgive WWX for getting JYL killed, threatens to break Jin Ling's legs weekly.
Jin Ling: rude. rude rude rude. Also stabbed WWx one time
Lan Jingyi: not respecting his elders, rude rude rude. Also loud
JFM: shit dad, throw him in a volcano
Madame Yu: Angry mom, beat Wei Wuxian for things that weren't his fault, yelled at JC a lot, didn't appreciate JYL, very mean.
Lan Xichen: killed people during the war. Randomly starts doing flute solos in conversation
Meng Shi: was a prostitute. Told Meng Yao his dad was amazing and he should totally look him up later.
Madam Jin: awful person, she can go into the volcano with JFM. physical and verbal abuse (JGY)
Nie Huaisang: killed cats, nearly killed the juniors, let his sect fall into ruin, traded obscene materials, disrespecting his sect's traditions, lied to Lan Xichen to make him kill JGY
Wen Qing: went along with WRH's plans, performed surgery on JC without his consent
Wen Ning: Was part of the burning of LP
Mo Xuanyu: Summoned Satan to murder his relatives, harassed his brother
Jin Zixun: asshole, rude, broke the Geneva Convention on the ethical treatment of prisoners several times. Useless person
FOR THE SAKE OF SAFETY AND YOUR MORALS YOU ARE ONLY ALLOWED TO STAN THE FOLLOWING CHARACTERS
Jiang Yanli
Qin Su
Lan Shizui

Stupid ways CQL changed the story from MDZS:
First on most people's list is gonna be the gay, and I agree on a political and societal level that this is an egregious change I can't get on board with. I will say though that on a personal preference level, I don't think the romance really adds much; the magic of this story is not the gay and I'm just as happy with WWX/LWJ have the intense, weird, unstated relationship they have in the drama as I am with the ultimately gay relationship they have in the book.
The Yin Iron plot in the drama is so bad, you guys. So bad. This includes a) there being multiple parts of the Yin Iron, b) WRH having some of it and creating puppets with it, c) LWJ/WWX going to search for it. Did they add this so WWX looks less terrible? So it looks like all he's doing is fighting fire with fire? I hate it. There was a knife fight, and WWX invented guns. That's literally the point of him; that's why he's terrifying; he invented something that was beyond his means to control and it got out of hand and everyone wanted the gun and there was only one. The plot in the drama is just SO STUPID. I like WWX and LWJ getting to bond when they search for it and the trip to the bunny cave, but you could really have them bond and get bunnies a different way.
The most egregious thing, imo, is how the Wen remnants are first portrayed in the drama. After the Wen Clan is defeated we see constant abuse of these prisoners, often pretty much in front of everyone's face. At one point they are even paraded in front of everyone and WWX is the only one who has a problem with it. I get that WWX is the hero, but it makes everyone else look super morally reprehensible. Like, how are we supposed to get behind LWJ if he can stomach that. Actually, forget LWJ, because I actually think the scene in the rain with the umbrella establishes that LWJ is simply unwilling to defy social convention/popular opinion, and while I think it is a slight twist on LWJ's character, it's not a big of one as you might suppose, given the novel. But Lan Xichen? The character who is supposed to be the absolute paragon of kindness, goodness, and compassion? It's always sat wrong with me. Anyway, the novel basically shows that the poor treatment of the Wens is mostly hidden from view of the public, and WWX only finds out because WQ goes to him for help.
Replacing NMJ's dismembered arm with an angry sword spirit was super confusing. Why does the sword spirit attack people's arms, and why does it ONLY do that at Mo Manor? It's stupid and confusing. I assume this was censorship as well? Unwilling to show some dismembered corpses?
Speaking on NMJ, the character is pointless in the drama. I think you really needed to show the way he helped and trusted Meng Yao and how utterly betrayed by Meng Yao NMJ was to really understand his character.
Speaking of which, it is so completely ludicrous that the Wen Clan attacks the Unclean Realm before the Wen Sect Training/Tortoise of Slaughter sequence. It does say in the book that the Wen Clan and Nie Clan are kind of in constant skirmishes, but that's why the Wen Clan heavily attacks Cloud Recess first and then goes for Lotus Pier; the point is that the Unclean Realm is too well defended. That said--I still find it outrageous that in the book everyone (except WWX, perpetually clueless) seems to know about the attack on Cloud Recesses but sends their children to the Wen Clan anyway. Like I get they're all intimidated but that is too much.
WWX falling off the cliff. So silly. LWJ never would have allowed that to happen. What was JC even doing? That said, the actual death in the book is so unclear; I get that it was the spiritual rebound, but what was JC doing then? What did it look like? I found it really weird how the book just did not illustrate a few very key climactic plot points.
Weirdly, JFM. I actually like the guy better in the drama, but that's a problem. He really is a terrible father to JC, and his terribleness really helps explain why JC is like he is.

Novel quotes: wei wuxian having feelings/thoughts about jiang cheng
Under the cut because it's long
However, Jiang Cheng was gone. Holding steamed buns, flatbreads, and fruits in his hands, Wei WuXian felt his heart skip a beat. He forced himself to calm down. Even after he searched through the neighboring streets, he still didn’t see Jiang Cheng. He finally began to panic. Grabbing a cobbler on the side, he asked, “Mister, there was a young master about the same age as me sitting here. Did you see where he went?” The cobbler licked the thick end of a thread, “The one that was with you?” Wei WuXian, “Yeah!”
The cobbler, “I was in the middle of doing something so I didn’t really see. But he kept on spacing out, staring at the people on the street. And then when I looked up at where he was again, he suddenly disappeared. Maybe he left.”
Wei WuXian murmured, “... He left... He left...”
He probably left for Lotus Pier to steal the bodies!
As though he had gone mad, Wei WuXian sprinted immediately toward the direction that they had come from.
[...]
He gave himself a harsh scolding in silence—he was stupid, useless, ridiculous, it was bizarre, unimaginable. Yet, he was alone, without a sword or any tools, and on the other side of the wall there were thousands of Wen Sect’s cultivators, perhaps Wen ZhuLie as well.
He wasn’t scared of death. He was only scared that after he died, he wouldn’t be able to save Jiang Cheng and betray the trust that Jiang FengMian and Madam Yu left him. In such circumstances, the only one he could place his hope on was a person of the Wen Sect whom he had met only three times in total!
[...]
Wei WuXian’s gaze turned from Wen Ning toward Jiang Cheng, whose body was covered in blood and eyes were tightly shut. His fingers couldn’t help but clenched into fists.
Chapter 59 Poisons—Part Four
Jiang Cheng’s expression was rather strange. It was calm, almost too calm. He stared at the ceiling, as though he wasn’t at all interested in the situation that he was in, as though he didn’t care about where he was either. Wei WuXian didn’t expect him to react in such a way. Sadness, happiness, anger, shock—he had none of these. His heart skipped a beat, “Jiang Cheng, can you see me? Can you hear me? Do you know who I am?” Jiang Cheng glanced at him. He didn’t say anything. Wei WuXian asked him a few more questions. Arm supporting himself, he finally sat upright. He looked down at the mark of the discipline whip on his chest before laughing bitterly. If the discipline whip struck, it’d be impossible to wipe away the mark of shame. Wei WuXian comforted him despite this, “Stop looking at it. There has to be a way to get it off.” Jiang Cheng slapped him. His strike was so weak, so powerless that Wei WuXian didn’t even flinch, “Hit me. As long as you’ll feel better.”
[...]
If Wei WuXian were the one injured or if somebody else had saved them, he’d immediately say farewell and leave at once, full of determination. However, right now, Jiang Cheng was the one who had been injured. Not only was he injured, he had lost his core as well. He wasn’t in his right mind. No matter what, Wei WuXian couldn’t find any determination.
Chapter 60 Poisons—Part five
Out of the blue, Jiang Cheng spoke up, “Not to do what?” Wei WuXian paused in surprise, turning to him along with Lan WangJi. Jiang Cheng covered his wound with one hand, his voice chilly, “Wei WuXian, you’re such a great, selfless person. You did the best things possible, and you swallowed all the suffering and didn’t let anyone know. What a touching story. I should kneel down and cry in gratitude, shouldn’t I?” Hearing the mocking tone that lacked any courtesy, Lan WangJi’s face grew cold. Jin Ling saw the displeased expression and immediately stood in front of Jiang Cheng, scared that Lan WangJi would kill him with one strike, “Uncle!” Wei WuXian’s expression worsened as well. He never expected Jiang Cheng to make up with him after he found out the truth, but he didn’t think his tone would be as unkind as ever, either. With a moment of silence, he replied, voice muffled, “I never asked you to thank me.”
[...]
In the beginning, it was precisely because he didn’t want to see such a Jiang Cheng that he decided not to tell him.
He remembered every single thing he promised Jiang FengMian and Madam Yu—to help and take care of Jiang Cheng. If someone as unhealthily competitive as him found out about this, he’d be dispirited his whole life, too tortured to face himself. There’d always be something he could never overcome, reminding him that he could only reach where he was because of another’s sacrifice. It wasn’t at all his cultivation and his achievement. No matter if he won or lost, he’d long since lost the right to compete.
Afterwards, it was because Jin ZiXuan and Jiang YanLi died for him that he had no face to let others know. To tell Jiang Cheng after what happened then would be like shirking responsibility, hurrying to demonstrate that he’d contributed as well. It’d be like telling Jiang Cheng, don’t hate me, look I’ve contributed to the YunmengJiang Sect too.
Chapter 102- Hatred - Part Five
At this point, somebody on the side suddenly called, “Wei WuXian!”
Wei WuXian answered immediately, “What?”
Only after he answered did he realize that the one who called him was Jiang Cheng. Wei WuXian felt somewhat surprised. Jiang Cheng didn’t respond directly. Instead, he took something out from his sleeve and tossed. Wei WuXian caught it by instinct and looked, only to find a black, gleaming flute along with a crimson tassel.
It was the ghoul flute, Chen Qing!
As he felt the flute that he was more than familiar with, Wei WuXian didn’t even have the spare time to feel surprised.
Chapter 108: Concealment - Part Two
After a pause, he asked again, “How have Sect Leader Jiang and Jin Ling been?”
Lan JingYi pouted, “They seem pretty fine. Sect Leader Jiang is the same as before, always lashing out at people with his whip. Young Mistress’s temper has been getting better. In the past he could talk back thrice to his uncle after he scolds him once. Now he can do ten times.”
[...]
Hearing Lan JingYi say so, Wei WuXian relaxed slightly. In truth, he knew that these weren’t what he really wanted to ask. But as it sounded like Jiang Cheng and Jin Ling had been doing quite well, there was nothing left to say.

T, 17k, Wei Wuxian
Summary: Wei Wuxian braces himself for what might come next, the story of how this man died by the Yiling Patriarch's hand—at Nightless City, at the Burial Mounds, as the rest of the sects tried to bring that great villain to account. "What was his name?" Uncle Gan sits back, twiddles his thumbs as he thinks. "Well, it'd be Wei something, of course." "Wei Changze, wasn't it?" chimes in a new person, and if anyone agrees or disagrees, Wei Wuxian does not hear them. His wine bowl slips from his grip and the sudden clatter of it barely registers over the unexpected sounds of his father's name. Wei Changze, slipping so careless from a stranger's mouth here in small Taozi, here of all places under the open sky. Wei Changze. - Wei Wuxian meets his grandmother. No, not the immortal one. The other one. Kay's comments: The first comment under this story just read "Oh. Oh. This was heart breaking" and yeah. I couldn't have said it better. Absolutely heart-breaking, devastating and sad, but like in the best way possible. Not a happy story at all, but instead one that leaves you feeling as if your heart has been clawed open. The Untamed canon where Wei Wuxian accidently meets his grandmother, on his father's side of the family, during his post-canon travels, while he pines away for Lan Zhan. Surprise grandma, but he can't bring himself to burden her with the truth of who he is and so simply introduces himself as Mo Xuanyu. Excerpt: "Did your sect know they had a son? He was born here, in this house. Little a'Ying," she adds, effortlessly, thoughtlessly, smiling at him. The name in her mouth is unfamiliar, a warped version of those that have claimed him before. A'Ying is a child's name, the most childish of them, and although of course it's supposed to be his, he doesn't recall ever having been that. He's been a'Xian to shijie, to Uncle Fengmian sometimes, and he is Wei Ying to Lan Zhan now, nothing else. It's not a name he owns, and he does not like the way it lingers in the small space between them: innocent, untroubled, unaware, reaching for him and offering to tie him to this place. It's instinct to look away to avoid it, to busy his hands and his gaze with his teacup, to reach for the final cake. Yet he can't stop his hearing from betraying him, he can't not hear Zhang Rufen as she continues, "They always took him with them when they went wandering, all three of them were very stubborn. I used to tell Chang'er to leave the boy here with us, but neither he nor his wife would hear of it. He would not have been so much to feed, and we were doing better by then, we could have used another pair of hands to help with the orchards as he grew up." There it is again, this possibility, this other life, offered to him with fully unhesitant regard. He tries to avoid it, but it unspools in front of him, so bright and clear, almost tempting: the seasons, the harvest, the river, the cool moist soil settling under his nails and around them, working its indelible way into every groove of his fingers, a different sort of ink. Tending life, instead of rending it. A good life. Maybe it would have suited a'Ying, whoever that boy would have become.
pov wei wuxian, post-canon, the untamed compliant, the untamed, rogue cultivator wei wuxian, canonical character death, grief/mourning, closure, sad wei wuxian, wei wuxian has a family, funerary rites, family dynamics

Still with the Nielan Baby AU. In the final act, Jin Guangyao, learning the truth about the kid got angry and asks bitterly to Xichen what "this barbarian who only knew violence as answer" had more than him. "were you ashamed of it if you didn't tell me"
Maybe he pretends the child was a mistake. Or that Mingjue takes advantages of Xichen because of his QI instability. Horrible things. Like if he didn't get himself married, didn't love his wife (before learning who she was for him). Maybe he's just bitter now because he had always wanted Xichen too.
Xichen is a wreck for obvious reason. He has been betrayed, captured, his spiritual powers sealed, his brother, nephew (Let's say Yuan is here) and son (+ all the others) are in danger and Jin Guangyao insults Mingjue's memory after have killed him and cut his body in pieces. He ruined his dream of a happy family, and Xichen lived the same thing than his mother (having his child taken away of him) but worse since it was barely a monthly visit that he had with his own child.
Little Bao is clutched to Huaisang, terrified. He doesn't understand why his uncle Yao is so angry suddenly. Why he says terrible things about his father and why uncle Xichen seems to sad.
Jin Ling forget his own pain and hug the child, telling him to not listen his uncle. He's in tears himself. Lan Sizhui gives comfort to his cousin too (he just learns who the kid was).
"Er-Ge, i wouldn't have taken your child away of you if it was me"
"No, because if you didn't kill Mingjue, it wouldn't have happened!"
Huaisang can't shut up "and considering that you have killed your own son, i doubt he would have been safe with you"
"If he had been mine, i wouldn't have reason to kill him because he wouldn't have been a disgusting incestous child!"
A-Ling cries even more because it was his cousin and it is so painful, he thinks to his aunt and how she was sad to have lost her baby and how she couldn't have another.
And A-Ling can't stop to wonder: Would his uncle Yao have killed him is his child wasn't the result of a incest? if he thought that he was a threat for his son?
Wei Wuxian is furious.
Lan Wangji has murder impulses.
Jiang Cheng is judging the hell of Jin Guangyao because "worse uncle and father EVER"
Jin Guangyao turns to the kid "A-Bao, do you knows how young your father was when he's dead? You'll live the same fate if you continue in the Nie way"
"You're the one who killed Dage!" yells Huaisang, furious. "you have no right to speak to A-Bao"
But the kid looks at JGY and says, with as much serious voice he can use: "i know the fate of my father and my ancestors but Bobo and Uncle Xichen makes sure that it will never happen to me! I'm the futur sect leader Nie and i'll make my father proud.
"Uncle" JGY laughs "are you aware that it's your other parent"
Bao looks at him, tears in his eyes "Yes. Bobo tells me. Yesterday. "

Unspoken Bonds part 2
Tumblr media
GIF from adustyspectacle on Tumblr
As y/n trailed behind Lan Wangji, the atmosphere around them seemed to thicken, heavy with unspoken emotions. The palpable tension was like a veil that enveloped them both, casting a shadow over their steps. For y/n, this current of intensity was perplexing; it wasn't often that she found herself on the receiving end of such strong reactions from Lan Wangji.
Amidst the quiet steps and echoing silence, y/n's mind raced, trying to unravel the puzzle of his behavior. She was, after all, just a maid, an inconspicuous figure in the vast tapestry of the sect. With no family ties or notable background, it seemed rather odd that her interaction with Wei Wuxian would provoke such a reaction from Lan Wangji. Her thoughts whirled, grappling with the dissonance between her perceived insignificance and the intensity of his feelings.
Mixed within her confusion was a web of her own emotions. Y/n was not oblivious to her feelings for Lan Wangji, though she harbored no illusions about the reality of their situation. The chasm that separated them in terms of social standing, wealth, and societal expectations seemed insurmountable. Her heart understood the unlikelihood of him returning her affections, yet her emotions persisted, casting their own shade upon her thoughts.
In her heart, y/n recognized that her affection was a quiet ember, a secret flame she kept close, understanding the unlikelihood of its ignition. The intricate dance of emotions that had formed between her and Lan Wangji was a melody that played within the confines of her own heart, often hidden from the world.
Just as the tension between y/n and Lan Wangji seemed to tighten its grip, a soothing voice broke through the heaviness. "Wangji," Xichen's call acted as a balm, swiftly diffusing the atmosphere that had been fraught with tension. His presence was like a beacon of serenity, casting a gentle light that momentarily eased the weight between them.
Y/n's gaze shifted to Lan Wangji, finding solace in his eyes. The words that followed, spoken with a quiet resolve, reassured her that he was not blind to her well-being. Her lips curved into a soft smile, her response carrying a whisper of understanding. "Don't worry about me, you go with your brother," her assurance was imbued with a quiet strength, an assurance that she could handle the complexities of the situation on her own.
As they parted ways, y/n found herself alone in the aftermath of this emotional tempest. The scrolls in her arms served as a tangible reminder of her responsibilities. Despite their intended recipient being Lan Wangji, she quietly made her way to the library, the weight of her emotions and the scrolls a metaphorical journey in themselves.
Y/n's fingers moved with practiced grace as she shelved each scroll, her motions precise and efficient. Amid the familiar texts, her eyes were drawn to a book that seemed to stand out from the rest. An oddity in its appearance. As she pulled it from the shelf, curiosity flickered in her gaze, a silent question hovering in the air.
The words and images that met her eyes were like an unexpected gust of wind, stealing the breath from her lungs. A flush of warmth crept up her cheeks, her face turning a shade of crimson that mirrored the contents of the book. The unexpected nature of the text left her momentarily speechless, her heart pounding in her chest.
Quickly, as if the very act of reading those words was a transgression, y/n placed the book back on the shelf. Her fingers trembled ever so slightly, betraying the turbulence of emotions that had been stirred within her. The mixture of surprise, embarrassment, and an odd sort of delight swirled in her mind like leaves caught in a whirlwind.
The stillness of the library was abruptly shattered by the sound of Wei Wuxian's voice, a familiar presence entering the space like a gust of wind. "Xiao-mei!" his exclamation carried a note of cheerful recognition, a warmth that reflected their previous interactions. "Nice to meet you again, pretty lady.".
"Master Wei," her voice carried a note of respect as she addressed him, the honorific a reflection of the hierarchies that governed their world. Her bow, a symbol of deference, held within it a hint of the thoughts that had occupied her mind.
Wei Wuxian's smile held a playful twinkle, his eyes crinkling with mirth as he regarded her. His ability to lighten the atmosphere was evident, his presence a reminder that life could still hold moments of levity, even within the confines of tradition.
"You don't have to be so formal, Xiao-mei," he said with a teasing lilt to his voice. "We've interacted enough times for you to address me casually."
"Then you can call me, y/n," she replied, a soft smile gracing her lips. Her words held a hint of playfulness, a deviation from the formalities that usually defined their interactions.
"Y/n, what a pretty name! For a pretty girl like you," Wei Wuxian's words flowed like a melody, his voice a mixture of genuine admiration and his characteristic cheerfulness. His compliment, while candid, felt like a sunbeam warming her heart.
"Thank you, Wei Wuxian," y/n's response was gentle, her gratitude sincere. His ability to create an atmosphere of ease was a gift she had come to appreciate.
"A-xian is fine," Wei Wuxian's invitation was extended with a friendly pat on her head, a gesture that carried a sense of camaraderie. His casual manner was both surprising and endearing, bridging the gap between their statuses.
As he looked at the shelves, a sudden shift in his demeanor caught y/n off guard. His eyes lit up with mischief as he singled out a particular book, a book that seemed entirely out of place amidst the scholarly tomes. Before y/n could fully register what was happening, the book was in his hands, its contents displayed openly.
Wei Wuxian's playful demeanor was infectious, his intent to shock and amuse clear in his expression. The fact that he was openly displaying such a book in the library was both audacious and typical of his irreverent nature.
"See how the illustration shows the love between the two," Wei Wuxian's teasing voice echoed through the air, his words carrying a playful undertone. His mischief was evident as he openly commented on the explicit content of the book, daring to highlight the intricate details that illustrated a different kind of connection.
Y/n's cheeks turned an even deeper shade of red, her embarrassment escalating as Wei Wuxian continued to engage with the book's content. The combination of his commentary and the nature of the book itself created a swirl of emotions within her, a mix of discomfort, surprise, and an odd sort of fascination.
"Why you've been awfully quiet, xiao-mei," Wei Wuxian's words were a playful challenge, his gaze dancing with mischief. His insinuation was lighthearted, yet it managed to stoke the flames of her embarrassment. "Perhaps this scene excites you."
Y/n's heart raced, her own teasing retort caught in her throat as she attempted to quell her blush. She averted her gaze, trying to regain her composure amidst the whirlwind of emotions that had been stirred. The blush on her cheeks was evidence of her internal conflict, a battle between her desire to maintain her poise and the sheer audacity of the situation.
"It's forbidden to look at such things, Master Wei," y/n's voice carried a note of calm and propriety, an attempt to steer the conversation toward more acceptable territories. Her words were a gentle reminder of the boundaries that governed their world, even in the midst of playful interactions.
"Aww, don't start acting like Master Grumpy over here," Wei Wuxian's playful retort carried a tone of mock exasperation. His words were accompanied by a grin, his eyes twinkling with amusement. His nickname for Lan Wangji was delivered in a teasing manner.
"Perhaps you're this shy because you imagine this to be you and Lan Wangji instead," Wei Wuxian's whispered words were like a mischievous breeze, carrying a playful insinuation that brushed against y/n's ear. His teasing was evident, his voice laced with a knowing tone that hinted at a deeper understanding.
"That's preposterous," y/n's response came out in a gentle stutter, her cheeks aflame with a mixture of embarrassment and surprise. The idea he proposed was absurd, and yet there was an underlying truth to his words that she found herself unable to entirely deny.
Wei Wuxian's grin widened, his amusement evident as he watched her reaction. His ability to tease and prod at the edges of her thoughts was a testament to his intuition and the shared moments they had experienced. His willingness to blur the lines between playful banter and deeper truths was both exasperating and oddly endearing.
"Don't worry, I won't tell anyone about your secret fascination with Lan Wangji," Wei Wuxian's words carried a tone of assurance, his playful tone weaving a web of intrigue. His teasing was a dance of words, a playful acknowledgment of the unspoken feelings that lingered beneath the surface.
As the weeks unfolded, a new layer of complexity began to emerge in the interactions between y/n and Lan Wangji. The possessiveness that had once been hinted at grew more pronounced, like a shadow gradually lengthening with the setting sun. Each time Wei Wuxian made an appearance, Lan Wangji's demeanor underwent a subtle shift. The spark of jealousy that ignited within him seemed to cast a cloud over his interactions with others, especially when it came to y/n.
Wei Wuxian's presence, once a source of playful banter and lighthearted moments, now elicited a different reaction from Lan Wangji. The elder Lan's tendency to ignore him and divert y/n's attention was a testament to the depth of his emotions. It was as if he couldn't bear the thought of sharing her attention, even for a moment, with anyone else.
Amidst these dynamics, there existed moments that lingered in y/n's memory, moments that seemed to hold a significance that transcended the ordinary interactions. One such moment, when they were alone together at night, seemed to resonate within her thoughts. The quiet intimacy of that setting, illuminated by the soft glow of moonlight, left an indelible impression.
As y/n read the scroll to Lan Wangji, she could feel his gaze on her. A gaze that held a depth of emotion she couldn't fully decipher. Her cheeks warmed as she realized the intensity of his observation. His eyes, like stars in the night sky, seemed to hold a universe of unspoken feelings.
In that stillness, her own thoughts drifted, and she found herself captivated by the details that had escaped her notice before. The way his lips curved slightly as he listened, the way his brows furrowed in concentration, and the way his presence seemed to envelop her in a cocoon of quiet companionship.
The moment took an unexpected turn, shifting from the realms of unspoken understanding to a more tangible connection. As y/n made to exit the scene, Lan Wangji's sudden action stopped her in her tracks. The feeling of his hand grasping hers was a delicate yet undeniable sensation, a touch that sent a jolt of electricity through her veins.
Her eyes met his, and in that shared gaze, a profound understanding seemed to pass between them. It was as if the barriers that had held them apart had momentarily dissolved, leaving only a sense of raw vulnerability and a connection that defied definition.
The realization struck y/n like a bolt of lightning, the significance of what had just transpired, the unspoken implications of the act.
"Sorry, Hanguang-Jun," y/n's voice held a mixture of sincerity and contrition as she bowed, her posture a reflection of her respect for him. The weight of the moment lingered in the air, a tangible reminder of the boundary that had been crossed.
With a quick withdrawal of her hand, she departed the scene, the weight of the forbidden nature of their interaction lingering like a bittersweet aftertaste.
As y/n's words and actions sank in, Lan Wangji found himself grappling with a mix of emotions. Confusion, like a cloud, hung over his thoughts. He had allowed her to touch his forehead ribbon, an act that held profound significance in their world. It was a gesture he had reserved for those closest to him, only family and cultivation partners. And yet, in that moment, he had permitted her to cross that sacred boundary.
The weight of his own actions began to dawn on him. Why had he allowed her to do something that was forbidden? His feelings for y/n had been growing steadily, like a quiet flame that couldn't be easily extinguished. The strength of his emotions had caught him off guard, leaving him to question the choices he had made.
The memory of her leaving the scene, the abruptness of her departure, was a puzzle he couldn't unravel. He had seen something in her eyes, a connection that seemed to mirror his own feelings. And yet, she had withdrawn, as if the very act of removing his forehead ribbon had awakened a realization that needed distance.

I've been thinking a lot lately about alter roles in DID systems (of which we are one) and the Lan clan. It's very interesting to me, because there are three clearly defined protector roles that fit Xichen, Wangji, and Qiren perfectly. And the way they do or don't interact with each other versus the way they could interact with each other instead gives some... rather enlightening insights when approached from a system point of view.
I'll do my best to explain it in terms singlets can understand but a lot of the nuance has to be experienced to be fully grasped. Even among systems, if you don't have these specific kinds of alters, it may be difficult.
Lan Qiren is a persecutor. Persecutors are not bad or evil alters. Every alter is doing what they believe is necessary to keep the system safe. Many persecutors enforce an abuser's rules on the rest of the system with physical or verbal discipline in an attempt to avoid worse punishment. After escaping, they may continue to do so either as a "just in case" the abuser comes back into their life or as a method of retaining stability. Wangji may be Head of Discipline, but Qiren is the one out of the three who lives and breathes the rules, who believes they must be followed or else. Or else what doesn't matter, only protecting people - his Sect, his Clan, his family - from the or else.
Lan Wangji is a prosecutor. This type of protector is rarely spoken about, I've noticed, and it is one that is also often characterized as bad or evil alters. While persecutors enforce judgement on the internal system, prosecutors enforce it on people outside the system. Typically, this is not physical. Instead, it can look like suddenly breaking off contact with a friend or even just firmly and immoveably placing a boundary. Prosecutors can be perceived as angry or uncaring, their role in the system is explicitly to not take bullshit other alters might fall for. Wangji is not conciliatory and he is not interested in betraying his principles, which are so closely tied with his people. We see this most clearly in the scene with Jin Zixun and the alcohol and the fact he faced 33 clan elders to defend Wei Wuxian. Xichen goes along to get along - with Zixun, with the Clans - and tries not to make a scene, Wangji is not interested in compromise and people who do not respect him or the people he cares about can go fuck themselves. He will gladly tell them when, how, and where if they feel inclined to ask.
Lan Xichen is a cheergiver. Cheergivers protect the system by trying to keep everyone - inside and outside - happy, calm, and content. If everyone is happy, calm, and content, then there is no danger. But a cheergiver's way of doing this ignores the actual issues in favor of immediate safety rather than addressing them and working through them. A cheergiver's express role is to avoid conflict, typically through placation or sheer goofiness. A cheergiver faced with a dilemma more suited to a prosecutor - where a boundary needs to be enforced or a negative judgement call needs to be made - may opt to ignore the situation entirely. The cheergiver in our system sometimes reminds me so strongly of our friend who once, when we were tired, overwhelmed, and upset (actually probably actively having sensory overload and/or an autistic shutdown, now that I think about it) got directly in our face and kept telling us to smile and we'd feel better. I also feel it's important to note with this that Xichen's going along to get along is most often done by siding with his uncle, likely because that is the authority figure he grew up with - the one with the most power to hurt and thus the most need to keep happy.
None of these methods of protecting are wrong or bad on their own. They are all deeply rooted in trauma and thus taken to the extreme, but they are understandable and sensible. "We have to follow the rules so we don't get in trouble for breaking the rules", "We shouldn't hang around people who might hurt us", and "Contentment reduces conflict" all make sense. "We have to follow the rules so we don't get in trouble for breaking the rules, so I will punish us instead until outsiders can't find any fault" makes sense, especially after having to clean up Qingheng-jun's scandal, but is not a proportionate response. "We shouldn't hang around people who might hurt us, and everyone can hurt us even if just with their eventual loss so we shouldn't let anyone close at all" makes sense, especially after losing a parent so young, but isn't proportionate either. "Contentment reduces conflict, so I will run myself ragged trying to make sure everyone at least acts content where I can see them and also I will make sure to disagree with as few people as possible because disagreeing with people makes them not content" makes sense, especially as a peacemaker with a career in diplomacy surrounded by strong personalities both at work and at home, but is not proportionate.
They all need therapy.
And when it comes to working together for the good of their family, they may all be trying to protect each other, but - as an example - our system works best when all our protectors - of these three types and others - are communicating with each other. When they are aware of their roles, aware of each other's strengths, and when they have the deep mutual respect to not use their roles against each other.
When Qiren has his now-grown nephews disciplined for failing to keep the rules, when Xichen seems to be trying to keep his uncle and brother from even having differing opinions in the first place, when Wangji decides to out-stubborn them both.... It's not a 1:1 comparison, because these three are not alters in a system and they are not the same person, but there are parallels. Breakdowns in communication and, more importantly, in trust turning valid and reasonable protection methods into something that does more harm than good is one of them.
All three of them have strengths that can become weaknesses in precisely the right - or rather, wrong - circumstances. And it's these strengths and weaknesses that drive their parts of the story forward.

I can try and explain why Su She's "character-revealing betrayal" actions are worse in CQL than MDZS when you consider it in terms of impact and cultural subtext. In terms of impact, in MDZS he tries to hand over Mianmian in the Xuanwu cave; it endangers one person and even then that is foiled so no real harm is done. In CQL, he endangers far more people with this betrayal; everyone in the cave becomes at risk or actually hurt, and it invalidates the sacrifices of his sect brothers who has chosen to stay silent (I'll come back to this in a bit).
In both scenes, the moment establishes Su She as 贪生怕死 (literally: greedy for life, afraid of death). "Afraid of death" may sound reasonable, but it is very much a derogatory idiom. There is a saying by Han Dynasty historian Sima Qian from 2000 years ago, "人固有一死, 或重于泰山, 或轻于鸿毛". (Roughly: All humans will face death, some (deaths) may matter more than the weight of Mount Tai, some mean less than a feather.) The quote is made extra-famous after after being alluded to by Chairman Mao to praise the service and sacrifice of a war hero. A meaningful sacrificial death is a fairly global concept, but it is extremely amped up in modern Chinese culture, with roots in tradition and bolstered by government propaganda that praise heroic sacrifices, especially those made for the revolution, the CPC, the modern Chinese state, etc -- this is the banner the censors are working under.
Going back to Su She in the Cloud Recess scene in CQL: he doesn't have a headband and isn't protected like the other core disciples, which can be an argument for possibly not owing the Lans such loyalty. But comparison with the other "peripheral disciples" who has chosen defiance and sacrifice suggests the Lans deserves or has earned this level of loyalty from their disciples. Su She not only betrayed his sect, but also ruined the legacies of the true heroes. Next to the bodies of his sect brothers who has chosen deaths that can mean more than mountains, his cowardly betrayal makes feathers out of all their sacrifices.
Su She struggling to decide and trying to lie initially is probably meant to show that his fear of death is very human, which also explains the Lans sparing his life after this betrayal. However, failing to overcome the fear of death when most of his sect brothers did means he is not cut out to be a hero (the "xia" in "xianxia", or a "junzi" like "hanguang-jun"). This is the same kind of logic that deems what JGY does for self-preservation is considered morally-deficient rather than morally-neural (or acceptable) -- like this really is the wrong genre and walk of life if staying alive means a lot to you.
I think this is a "path of least resistance" to understanding the censor-friendly story the writers want to tell, accounting for cultural and genre conventions.  I'm not saying the logic is perfect, but it is coherent in its mid-budget-xianxia-web-drama kind of way.
This is very interesting, thank you!

JC better be fucking glad that the whole "i was given a boon from BSSR b/c of my mom" thing was just a lie made up for the Golden Core transfer. that could have been the last fucking thing WWX has from his mother and he just has zero qualms about taking it. both he and his mother truly believe WWX owes them all that he has, including his life, his gratitude, and the memories of the parents he barely remembers.
JC screams "you're the reason my parents and sister are gone!". yeah? well your mom has been actively taking away and destroying the memory of WWX's parents and you just proved that you'd also do the same if given the opportunity.
an actual brother (blood or not) would show concern about what WWX was offering to sacrifice. JC did not, not even years later.
Jiang Cheng lives his life by what he believes others owe him, not what he actually owes others. Even when he knows he owes someone else, he will not repay it if he sees the debt as a "hardship."
Wei WuXian finally lost his temper, “Jiang Cheng! What- What do you think you’re talking about?! Take it back—don’t make me give you a thrashing! Don’t forget. Who was the one that helped us burn Uncle Jiang’s and Madam Yu’s corpses? Who returned to us the ashes that are in Lotus Pier right now? And who took us in when we were chased after by Wen Chao?!” Jiang Cheng, “I’m the one who fucking wants to give you a thrashing! Yes, they helped us before, but why in the world don’t you understand that right now any remnant of the Wen Sect is a target of criticism! No matter who they are, with a surname of Wen they have committed a most heinous crime! And those who protect the Wen are at risk of being condemned by everyone! All the people loathe the Wen-dogs so badly that the worse they die the better. Whoever protects them is against the entire world. Nobody would speak for them, and nobody would speak for you either!”
—Chapt. 73: Recklessness, exr
[Jiang Cheng] could manage to tolerate others, but definitely not Wen Ning, the Wen-dog who put his hand through Jin ZiXuan’s heart and ended both his sister’s happiness and her life. Just a look, and he felt the urge to kill him right there. How dare he step foot on the earth of Lotus Pier—he really was looking for his death!
—Chapt. 89: Loyalty, exr
With a shove, Jiang Cheng pushed aside the panicking Jin Ling who was supporting his side. Though he was already losing blood, blood still rushed to his head in his anger, making his face cycle through shades of white and red. He spat, “What gives you the right? Wei WuXian, what gives you the fucking right?” From behind Lan WangJI, Wei WuXian said stiffly, “What right?” Jiang Cheng replied, “How much has my family given for you? I’m his son. I’m the heir of the Yunmeng Jiang Sect. But all those years, I was never enough next to you. Their love, their dedication, even their life! The lives of my father, mother, older sister, and even Jin ZiXuan! Because of you, all that’s left now is an orphaned Jin Ling!” ... “And then look what happened? You went to shelter some outsider, haha! From the Wen Sect, of all people. How many years did you eat their food and drink their water?! You betrayed us in an instant without any hesitation! What do you think my family is to you?! Endless good deeds, you’ve done them all, whilst every fuck-up was always because you had no choice! You ‘had no choice’! What difficulties can’t you explain?! What hardship must you hide?! Hardship?! You don’t tell me anything, you treat me like a moron!!! “How much do you owe my family? Shouldn’t I hate you?! Couldn’t I hate you?! What gives you the right to suddenly make me feel like I should be the one that’s sorry?! What gives you the right to make me feel like some fucking clown after all these years?! What the hell am I?! Do I only deserve to be blinded by your glory, by your light?! Shouldn’t I hate you?!”
—Chapt. 103: A Hatred for a Life Part 6, boat-full-of-lotus-pods
Jiang Cheng, on the other hand, looked about ready to lose his mind on the spot. He said, “You? You?!” The force of the punch had been too powerful. Not only did it go right through Wen Ning’s chest, the shock of it also shattered part of his vocal chords. Unable to form a single word, he fell towards the ground. ... Wei WuXian and Lan WangJi went to the corner. Wen Ning was still half-collapsed onto Jiang Cheng and Jin Ling in an awkward position. Wei WuXian laid him flat on the ground. After studying the dark hole on his chest, he fretted, “Look at you......What should I use to fill this now?” Wen Ning asked, “Young Master, is it serious......?” Wei WuXian said, “It’s not serious. You don’t need the organs here anyways. But it looks bad.” Wen Ning replied, “It’s not like I asked to look good......” Jiang Cheng was silent.

1. Wanting to find a modern AU. The one scene I recall was in a parking lot, I think: the Jiangs are confronting WY, who had been at a party with LZ, possibly in order to see JYL. JC finds out about the sacrifice WY made for him. It was something to do with college tuition money this time around. Possibly YZY and WY both let the others think WY left of his own accord? @linderel

6. FF request! This is a modern au. I think wwx, lwj, lxc, nmj, nhs and maybe also jc, jyl, jzx, wq and wn, go on some sort of vacation under the excuse of night hunting. They finish a night hunt really quickly and then nmj (as the oldest and only sect leader?) is basically like, I don't care what you guys do, this is my vacation. They're all staying in the same house and divide into rooms by couple. Any ideas are much appreciated! Thank you!
FOUND? 🔒 Night Hunts and Getaways by Netrixie (T, 7k, LXC/NMJ, WangXian, JYL/JZX, JC/NHS, WWX & LXC, NHS could be a criminal mastermind, if he really wanted to, but he uses his powers for good, the plot exists merely for LXC to get some dick, so don't think too hard about it, Modern Cultivation, Everything is Beautiful and Nothing Hurts, LXC centric, treating canon with gleeful irreverence, ships other than nielan are background, Attempt at Humor) It's part of a series.

7. Hi! This is for Fic Finder. ☺️
I'm trying to find two fics. I don't remember much, unfortunately.
A) It's a time travel in which WWX comes back in time and go to visit WQ to convince her that he is from future and both make a long term plan to eliminate all the "bad guys".
B) It's also a time travel, but this time WWX is found by the Wens and is raised with the heirs of WR. The scene I remember quite well is one in witch LWJ is fighting with one of the Wen heirs (don't remember who, not WQ or WN) and when the Wen is going to attack LWJ, he sees the red ribbon that WWX gifted to LWJ. This means that LWJ is WWX's love (and fiance maybe?) so the Wen decided not to attack LWJ and it's killed.
I hope you can help me, thanks for everything!
🥰💕 @wangxiansgirl

9. Hello! For fic finder: I am looking for a fic where Wei Wuxian was cursed to lie / say the opposite of what he truly thought. But everyone thought he was cursed to tell the truth, so when he says all kinds of horrible things to people they believe him thinking that he has been compelled to say what he really thinks of them. The curse is only broken after people realize he is lying (not truthing). Wei Wuxian then has a series of conversations with the various characters as he reassures them that he was lying and that he didn’t mean whatever he said. He also has some angst about how people so easily thought the worst of him / believed his lies. This plot is so clear in my head but I just can’t find it in my ao3 history! Please, can anyone find this? Thank you in advance <3 <3

10. Hi 👋🏼 can you please find me this fic . It was WIP when I came across it. idk if it has been updated or not . The story went like meng yao , xue yang, and Wei Ying all end up in Burial Mounds as kids, and they are adopted by the ghost ? Of a queen of a fallen kingdom. I think the wens had something to do with the destruction of the kingdom.

12. For fic finder: It was a canon-divergent or post-canon fic where someone reminds Wei Wuxian that the juniors grew up in a time of peace and so they don’t have war-instincts (like startle reflexes or ptsd from battle, and in general they are too trusting). I think the juniors too were warned that the older generation is more jumpy because of what they had been through when they were teens, and so they shouldn’t sneak up on Wei Wuxian. Unfortunately I don’t remember any of the actual plot, just this bit about the differences between the generations.
FOUND? tell some storm by qurbat (G, 31k, wangxian, JC & WWX, LSZ & WWX, NHS & WWX, Post-Canon, Hurt/Comfort, Fluff, liberal amounts of outsider POV, the legend of wangxian, how to create a romance epic for dummies) since wwx has a conversation with lsz in chapter 2 about wwxs generation being one of war

15. Hi! I'm looking for a fic where wangxian were already married ig but don't love each other just yet and one day wy faints due to lack of scenting so they start as ordered by lqr. At the end or something wy leaves lwj for a bit because he's angry that lwj told him to stand up for himself when jiangs insult him, but he comes back after lwj apologises to wn for slapping him. Also I think its jiang corp and lan corp kinda stuff and wy is stuck in btw. Thank you sm I know this is confusing so sorry @tinkalb

16. I'm looking for some fics where Wei Ying achieves some sort of mastership(?) in cultivation. I think there were two of them that I read which had this idea... but I'm not sure now. I vaguely recall that he had to travel quite a bit to get to an instituion of some sort and there was a series of tests that he had to pass. I think there might also be something about him having to save up the money for it. Thanks!
FOUND? 🧡🔒Truth Will Out (when caught on video) - End_OTW_Racism! by KizuKatana (E, 179k, wangxian, WN & WWX & WQ, graphic depictions of violence, modern cultivation, canon divergence, YZY abuses WWX , caught on camera, partial core removal, WWX kicked out of Jiang sect, livestreamer WWX, meet ugly, dual cultivation, smut, no war) For #16 of the recent Fic Finder with WWX getting mastership in a cultivation field, there’s a chance it might be Truth Will Out by KizuKatana. The only thing is, WWX doesn’t actually achieve mastership, but he goes to Gus’s LAN to apply for a teaching job for talismans, and LWJ won’t consider him for multiple reasons including that WWX doesn’t have a master’s license (something like that)

Oooh, thank you for the ask!
#1: the character everyone gets wrong
I wouldn’t say EVERYBODY gets this character wrong, but…
Apologies in advance, but I’m going to revert to my Jiggy apologist roots and say Jin Guangyao from MDZS.
And okay. I get a large part of his character is intentionally left up to reader interpretation. At the same time, however, I think cql (and to a lesser extent, the donghua) have really skewed the fandom’s views on him. Both shows tend to place him into a more “cartoonishly evil” role, and often show him outright gloating when one of his plans comes to fruition.
In the novel, we never really get a peek behind Jin Guangyao’s mask. We don’t know to what extent he regrets his actions, or truly believes that he had no other choice.
Also, cql-only watchers tend to see his decision to hide Lan Xichen from the Wen as a decision either based on his feelings for the other man, or as an attempt to put himself back into Nie Mingjue’s good graces after betraying the Nie Sect. After all, in the show, he has already met both of his future sworn brothers. But in the original novel, Jin Guangyao was a complete stranger to both of them. He had no formal training in cultivation. He was little more than an ordinary civilian, albeit one that was more educated than most about the politics of the cultivation world. Hell, he was working at a bookshop at the time!
There’s a reason that Lan Xichen regards Jin Guangyao so highly, and why he is so resistant to believing anything bad about him.
Jin Guangyao risked everything, making himself an enemy of the strongest and most influential cultivation clan at the time, for a complete stranger. Perhaps he hoped his heroism would finally grant him some esteem in the cultivation world— but that was far from guaranteed. And if that was his only motivation, why not try to join the Wen Sect instead, especially when it seemed like they were the most likely to win the war?
Plus there was his whole thing about the watchtowers. He was building them for the good of the common people.
Don’t get me wrong, though. I’m not one of those people who is trying to say that Jin Guangyao did nothing wrong (as much as I like to joke about him being my poor little meow meow.)
He committed many awful, inexcusable atrocities towards the end of his life. I’m not going to say he didn’t.
I’m just saying that he HAD the capacity to do good things. That working undercover during the war, forced to torture and murder his allies for the sake of maintaining his cover, and later, being rewarded for those actions, and other actions he took following his father’s orders… not to mention what working closely with resentful energy for all those years might have done to him…
Well, I just appreciate fics that explore what might have happened, had he made better choices. Because I think that’s the point of his character.
He could have been good.
He just chose not to be.
#5: worst discord server and why
I honestly don’t use discord that often, so I couldn’t tell you.
#7: what character did you begin to hate not because of canon but because how how the fandom acts about them?
None of them. I’m not sure why, but fandom has never been able to make me hate a character I like. Some fanfics have gotten me to like characters I previously hated. But if the fandom tries to make me hate a character, or is wrong about a character, it just makes me love that character that much more, if only out of spite.
Again, thanks for the ask! Sorry for the novel-length dissertation on Jin Guangyao. I just love him, okay?
My precious little meow meow…
