Fic snippet #9: NonWhite
After the first few times, Non started to open up to White. He started talking more about himself, about the things he liked, the things he disliked. Horror movies and books and manga. Loud noises and school and the place that had come to be his new home. His prison, he called it. White never said anything when he did. He also mentioned how he hated the guy who got him into this job more than once. At first indirectly, small cues in between their discussions, but later more openly, with more conviction behind his words.  White listened to everything carefully, offering a bland remark here and there while cataloging all the things Non was telling him. It seemed important to do that for some reason.
It's happening folks. I aim to spread the NonWhite agenda one way or another. Unfortunately, I can't even hope to have the fic ready before ep11 comes out (which may or may not include ep12, we shall see), so I decided to share a snippet before we get to see what White's deal is. If we're lucky. BOC hasn't been predictable so far and I don't think they'll start being now heh.

"An important read about how conservatives are finding ways to use foster parenting as a means to steal babies, now that more traditional adoption pipelines are drying up.
It's particularly disturbing that so many of the cases involve the theft of nonwhite and especially Native kids from their biological families."

It's so ridiculous when social media plataforms censor people advocating against violence towards queer, non-white, non-christian or disabled people when we call someone who is a nazi, a nazi.
These assholes say that they care about minorities but nah, they don't care and we all know they don't, they just play the safe "woke and inclusive" card and censor these kinds of discusions under the guise that they are "offensive" when I don't see how calling a person who encourages violence against marginalized groups what they are, a disgusting nazi, is offensive.
If anyone is to decide what is harmful or what is not it's us, not them.

book rec by me
so you want to get back into reading books but have no idea where to start and disdain booktok (if you get me started on this however i will become an unskippable cutscene so that's for another day). understandable. there is so much out there and it is all so overwhelming and you don't even know what you like now that you've been a decade out of the game. again, understandable. it does not have to be scary. i will help you. below i have created some categories that can get you started.
i want to read Literature
literary fiction, with crossover from historical fiction and magical realism
PEACH BLOSSOM SPRING by melissa fu
THE VASTER WILDS by lauren groff
THE FAMILY CHAO by lan samantha chang
OUTER DARK by cormac mccarthy
SEVERANCE by ling ma
LIGHT FROM UNCOMMON STARS by ryka aoki
IDENTITTI by mithu m. sanyal
PIRANESI by susanna clarke
i want to read sci-fi/fantasy that won't break my brain
sci-fi and fantasy that is gentler on the brain cells. easier to grasp magic systems with multiple but not an overwhelming number of overlapping plotlines

KINGS OF THE WYLD by nicholas eames
THE JASMINE THRONE by tasha suri
THE CITY OF BRASS by s.a. chakraborty
A RIVER ENCHANTED by rebecca ross

BLACK SUN by rebecca roanhorse
THE FINAL STRIFE by saara el-arifi
THE BONE SHARD DAUGHTER by andrea stewart
i want to read sci-fi/fantasy that forces me to lock the fuck in
i would not recommend picking these up as your first foray back into books after many years of not reading recreationally, but i'm not your mom.
THE SPEAR CUTS THROUGH WATER by simon jimenez
JADE CITY by fonda lee
THE FIFTH SEASON by n.k. jemisin
THE RAGE OF DRAGONS by evan winter
A MEMORY CALLED EMPIRE by arkady martine
GIDEON THE NINTH by tamsyn muir
THE ART OF PROPHECY by wesley chu

THE RUINS by scott smith
CONFESSIONS by kanae minato
EPISODE THIRTEEN by craig dilouie

DIVINE RIVALS by rebecca ross
STRIKE THE ZITHER by joan he
THE RED PALACE by june hur
A STUDY IN DROWNING by ava reid
EMPIRE OF SAND by tasha suri
LEGENDBORN by tracy deonn
i check out and read a lot of these books for free via my local library by using the libby app (you can even add your friends' library cards to gain access to libraries in places you don't live). when i'm feeling like reading via audiobook, i use libro fm!
look, no one HAS TO read diversely. no one is going to be reverse fahrenheit 451'd and locked in a room with no fanfic and only books and not let out until they work their way through the entire literary canon. but reading, and reading widely, and reading diversely, is what teaches people to form their own opinions and question the things they are told. it's why they hang up stuff like "READ READ READ!!" in grade school classrooms.
we live under systems that increasingly benefit from going unquestioned. no, of course reading ASSASSIN'S APPRENTICE by robin hobb is not going to dismantle these systems tomorrow, nor probably even in our lifetimes. but doing it will help set up a world capable of doing it in the future. and until further notice, we are all part of this wretched world. might as well read a good story while we're here.
anyway, i'm reading THE WEST PASSAGE by jared pechaček and the new cmq book this week.

it’s still so ridiculous that Dr. Erland was like “ok Cinder meet me in Africa” as if that’s not a whole continent 😭 and no other details, not a city or even a country (if they even have those in the African Union bc i think the Eastern Commonwealth doesn’t rlly have countries bc it’s never mentioned and Kai is the emperor of the entire area, but it’s also specified that Scarlet lives in France so the Eastern Confederation has countries, so i guess some continents do and some don’t??)

Black and brown femmes I adore you, especially darker skin tones. The way the light bounces off your skin, it's like you can bend the very sun to your will. Don't let anyone ever let you feel like you are anything other than the most gorgeous princess in the room because you are a star and you deserve to shine ❤️

Y'know, if I had a nickel for every time a main character in Ninjago was hated for downright stupid reasons, I'd have two nickels, which isn't a lot but it's a shame it's about to happen twice

If there's one thing I know it's that White lgbts will ignore any racism within a piece of media no matter how bad or distasteful it is, especially if there's White lgbt ppl in it, and any criticism of the racism is met with the White fans getting mad. They expect you to baby them with "this thing is really really problematic and racist but it's okay if you like it" but if you say you hate it for its racism, then they insist you're just a hater and a big meanie, especially if you aren't white
