Another digital offering to Lord Ares ⚔️❤️
Ares Enualios;
The warlike conqueror.
Ares Vrotoktonos;
The mighty slayer of men.
Ares Aphneios;
The giver of food and plenty.
Ares Oplophoros;
The one bearing arms.
May your courage and ferocity shine down on those who need it most. May your indomitable spirit reach those in times of hardship. May your powerful presence cradle those who cannot fight any longer.
And may we praise thy dreadful name to all those who listen.

Father Ares is a kind god to me. He has given me the strength to keep going - no matter how hopeless things seem. I hope he gives me the courage to continue to do what I need to despite the family and society that never cease to push back against my existence and joy.
Hence, he and Father Zeus are the only gods (as of now) I call 'Father' although I am devoted to, worship, and recieve support and blessing from other gods (Apollo, Hermes etc.). Both Father Zeus and Ares' guidance is more similar to the stern yet gentle encouragment from a father-figure, always there to tell me to 'get back up and fight'.

Raise Me Up
Oh, Divine Father, Who loves me as though I Were made from his loins, Sprung from his head, Or built of his bones; When life becomes too much And I feel so alone, When the pain overwhelms And I can't carry on, Oh, Divine Father, Please take me by the hand And raise me up from this hell!

Ares saying he hates his own kids and the worst day of the year is when they visit him makes my heart break for Clarisse more. Clarisse fights so hard for scraps of her father’s attention and Ares sees her as just another nuisance. He doesn’t care about her unless she’s able to serve him. But Clarisse (like Annabeth) thinks she just has to work harder for him to love her. In her mind, it’s all her fault. Which is why she is so angry when little punk Percy strolls in at twelve years old, no training and unclaimed, and immediately defeats the minotaur. In three days hes already got the gods attention and his father claimed him. Of course she’s angry.

NO CAUSE THIS IS SO REALLL
here’s mine:
So I’m devoted to Lord Ares and when I first started worshipping Him I was a bit nervous cause like- what if it’s not gonna work out- BOY WAS I WRONG
My name, Alek, literally means ‘defender of men’. This is my chosen name but at the time I didn’t know its meaning and I wasn’t a helpol then so
Also, I was born on a TUESDAY, which for those who don’t know is Lord Ares sacred day of the week <3
Again w my birth; I’m a Taurus (sun) and it’s ruled over by the planet Venus (shout out to Lady Aphrodite)
And AGAIN; my ascendant sign is ARIES, which is super cool cause ascendant signs change every 2hrs, so it’s the most specific of all of them. And ALSO my Venus is in Aries too :))
There’s definitely more but this was all the stuff that first stuck out to me; He was here my whole life and I didn’t realise it- Praise Father Ares!!
Discovering that stuff in your life aligns a lot with correspondences of the deities your worship is so weird and comforting at the same time.
Like, you've been there all my life and you didn't tell me you sneaky bitch, I love you.

She Won.
His child won his game.
He couldn’t be more proud.
And yet.
Despite that.
He still Smited and Striked her with his lightning again and again and again.
It wasn’t because she won.
It was because she won.
Apollo, despite not having any qualms on Athena’s Human, gave in too fast. It was the reason Zeus made him 1st. To build in false hope.
She of course didn’t fall for it.
Hephaestus was a bit challenging but it was all child’s play. She finished the little obstacle course in less than a Minute. She had to use logic on him yes but nothing she couldn’t handle.
Aphrodite and Ares were the real challenge she had to go against because those two actually held grudges against the man. She almost lost even when Ares stoked her.
And yet she suprised him again with her Protectiveness of a mere child whose father was shamed.
More less of a ‘Friendship’ with just a weak teen.
He had to give it to her. She won that fair and square.
It pissed him off. It pissed him off so much.
Hera knew every trick and tale that came and went with Gods and Godesses alike trying to free and spare their oh so ‘hero’ from punishment. It was why she was last. She would’ve been the hardest one to convince.
If it wasn’t for the fact that his own Daughter spat out how he wasn’t a Cheater and how he was Loyal to his Wife and how she instantly caved in and-
UGH!!
And yet, despite it all! She. still. won.
Any other father, mortals atleast, Would’ve been brimming with pride and radiate happiness throughout their own soul.
But he wasn’t just any father.
He was a King
The King.
The King of Gods and Goddesses. Even those Outcasted. He still held power and ruled over them.
And yet here he was. Expected to hold up his end of a bargain to his daughter who won his game less than 3 minutes top.
He was- he felt Humilated. He felt shame coarse throughout his veins. Pride and Arrogance clouded his mind and…
Well…
Kings weren’t known to hold up their end of a bargain after all.

Ares, staring at his destroyed throne: I'm not entirely sure if Jackson decided to save or raze Olympus.
Percy: Maybe if my dad actually hugged me, even just once in my life, I mightve cared more about saving Olympus rather than just defeating Kronos!
Poseidon:
Poseidon: I've been angling for a hug every single time we've met and I've put my hand on your shoulder in the last three years, Percy.
Percy: what
Poseidon: I wasn't sure how welcome a hug would've been so I was letting you make the first move.
Percy: *incoherent frustrated noises*

The “always an angel, never a god” trend but with Greek Gods? (HEAR ME THE FUCK OUT)
Ares
Always hated, never adored
Aphrodite
Always to be seen, never to be heard
Athena
Always the statue, never a god
Poseidon
Always second best, never the best
Artemis
Always the attachment, never an individual
Zeus (titanomachy)
Always the soldier, never a child
Apollo
Always the lover, never the loved
Hera
Always the villain, never the hero
Hades
Always the ignored, never remembered
Dionysus
Always the drunk, never the wise

Ares, the God of War, never had time to ‘play around’ with his children. Yes, he claims them as his own, but what would you expect from a god? Almost all the gods could care less about their children. They would be born just to fear for their lives, as disgusting creatures hunted them down like animals.
You found it strange how your father often visits you while you’re on a quest. This was an unexpected change from God. Had you finally gotten his recognition? Had he finally decided that you were worthy of his time?
“I don’t want any excuses, child!” His voice boomed through the training area.
You wouldn’t even call it a training area; all that was there were trees and a drawing of a circle that was to resemble an arena. You could see his eyes glow beneath his glasses, with flames dancing around them.
The God of War stared at you, a shiver running down your spine as you tried to steady your breathing after a grueling combat session. Blood slowly dripped down your face, a reminder of you failing to protect your face from your father's attacks. He never said he was going to go tough on you.
Ares scoffed, the air crackling with tension. “Training? You call that training?” He rolled his eyes(?), arms crossed in front of his chest, as he stood with pride. “What we did there was real training, child of mine.”
“You carry the blood of warriors, yet you fight like a novice.” He added more salt to the wound, as if that wouldn’t lower your self-esteem even lower. “Pick up your sword.”
It wasn’t an order; it was a command. He was commanding you to do it. And like the good child you are, you did what he said.
With a nod, you hastily grabbed the sword before looking back at God, who impatiently waited, tapping his leather shoe against the ground. “Can’t we do this another time?” You tried to reason with him. Your body was exhausted and needed a break from his tough training. This wasn’t like the training back at Camp Half-Blood.
“Would you rather spend your whole life being chased around by Harpies with zero experience in fighting?” He growled, making his way toward you. You could never tell what he was feeling due to those pesky sunglasses. If he was trying to get you to be afraid, well, he was doing a good job at that.
You could practically feel the ground shake with every step he took as he advanced towards you. Surely he wouldn’t dare to hurt one of his children again, right? You failed to notice how the blood had somehow disappeared, only leaving a scar on your cheek.
The flames behind his sunglasses flickered with anger. “Well?” said he, waiting for your response. The God of War never liked to wait, but it seemed like you were an exception. “No… father.” Lowering your head in despair. Had all of your hopes and dreams gone to waste? Why was it so hard to please your father? Numorous, unanswered questions clouded your mind.
You looked up in confusion once you felt a hand on your head. What was this, you thought. A smirk made its way to God’s face as he saw your bewildered look. Was this the way he shows his affection for his children? You couldn't help but smile at the God of War, feeling a little bit of pride come back to you.
“Don’t tell the others, yeah? Keep this a secret between the two of us. I’ll get you whatever you want if it keeps your mouth shut, little one.”
The flames in his eye sockets seemed to have calmed down as you watched them faintly glow.
Little one? Was your brain playing tricks on you, or was this all but a dream? Ares, God of War, giving you a nickname? You had to cherish this moment. Who knew it took this long for Ares to warm up to one of his children? Certainly, you didn't.
The god sighed before he kneeled down. He, ever so gently, placed his hand on your arm, a warm sensation spreading throughout your body. “Don’t do anything stupid, alright? Don’t go around thinking’ you can destroy whatever beast is out there,” said Ares.
Is this what it feels like to be loved by your father?
“You are still human, not a god. You’re not immortal like us.” Oh, to see the look on your siblings's faces once they find out where you've been this entire time. The perks of being the favorite, I guess!
“Why are you telling me this?" You couldn’t help but ask, staring into your father’s shades as he awkwardly rubbed your arm. His touch was… warm and fatherly, something you couldn't even describe.
He raised an eyebrow, baffled by the sudden question. “Well, squirt, despite this chaotic world we are forced to live in, I still... care for my children.” He placed his finger on your lips, silencing you from asking more questions. You silently glared at him as you thought about biting your father’s finger.
It wasn't like you were going to be rambling over how he hadn't been there for you a single time in your life!
Well, it was fun while it lasted. If only these moments could happen every once a week rather than once a month.
The God then shook his head. “We are wasting time.” Standing back up before he lifted you up from the back of your shirt. It was like you were a five-year-old all over again. You hadn't realized that your idol was a god this entire time.
“Pay attention, because I’m not going to repeat myself twice,” said Ares, confidently making his way to the opposite side of the said arena. “The first rule is to never show any weakness to your enemy. They could use that to their advantage. Now, shall we begin?”
With a simple nod, Ares smirked once again, his heart slowly beginning to warm up.

I hear Hermes in the noise of a train when it stops in front of my platform.
I hear Apollo in the loud bass line in a song.
I hear Poseidon in the snorting of horses as they go past a car.
I hear Dionysus in the laughter coming from the bars.
I hear Ares in the noises of pride parades and protests.

Do the gods each seem to have their own "area of expertise", for lack of a better term, when helping you? Or do they help with a little bit of everything?
Do they take turns? Work in pairs? Work in slightly larger groups?
~Jasper of @jasper-pagan-witch
Hiya, Jasper!
I love these questions! They do kind of tend to stick to certain areas of my mental health, but they are more than willing to help with any aspect of it.
Father Hades really focuses on my depression and reminding me to let things go. I can often feel his presence when I am ruminating on something from my past. He is a steady constant and a reminder that I do not have to carry so much baggage through life. I can and should lay some things to rest.
Mother Hekate helps with my anxiety and depression by being a constant presence in my life. She is the mother I always wanted, but never really had growing up. She is comforting and understanding. She reminds me that I am okay when I get panicked and to just breathe. She also reminds me to focus on the present, rather than staying lost in the past or future.
Father Ares is very present when I struggle with my PTSD and its symptoms. I struggle with flashbacks and he is always there to help calm me down. He is also a strong advocate for healthy boundaries, so (along with my therapist) he is helping me sort those out.
Mama Aphrodite helps with my self-image and self-worth. I grew up feeling very much less than. Never good enough (at anything). She reminds me of the beauty I hold, both inside and out, and the beauty in the world around me. She is also helping me find my voice and confidence.
Brother Hermes is usually present when I struggle with imposter syndrome. He is ready to (gently) bonk me on the head with his caduceus when it gets too big. When I am tearing myself down, he helps correct those thoughts and remind me of my strengths. I am always getting bonked because my self talk is atrocious.
As for working together, Mama Aphrodite and Father Ares work together very often, as they are generally my mental health go-to team. They work really well together and build upon what the other is teaching. Mother Hekate and Father Hades sometimes work together and have been known to echo what the other parent has said. And Brother Hermes usually works alone, but does bring messages from any one of my parents if I am not hearing (feeling) them.
Thanks for the questions! I hope this answers them all!

One of my biggest pet peeves is the assumption that something has to be sad for it to be tragic.
I've always been a big believer of the 'Apollo has an awful love life'/'Apollo is plain unlucky with love' line of thinking but it does bother me that the general reasoning for that statement is given to the concept of 'Apollo is somehow undesireable and thus rejected' (Cassandra/Daphne/Marpessa) or 'his lovers die young and thus their love is unfulfilled' (Cyparissus/Hyacinthus/Coronis). I personally think that's a very unfortunate way of looking at things - not only because it neglects the many perfectly cordial entanglements and affairs Apollo has had, both mortal and divine - but because it presents a very shallow interpretation of the concepts of love and loss and how loss affects people.
Apollo can still grieve lovers that have a long, healthy life. The inherent tragedy of an immortal who knows his lovers and children will die and cannot stop it does not stop being tragic simply because those lovers and children live long, fulfilled lives. The inherent tragedy of loss does not stop being tragic simply because someone knows better than to mourn something that was always going to end.
What is tragic is not that Apollo loves and loses but that loss itself follows him. Apollo does not love with the distance of an immortal, he does not have affairs and then leaves never to listen to their prayers again. He does not have offspring and then abandon them to their trials only to appear when it is time to lead them to their destinies. He raises his young, he protects the mothers of his children, he blesses the households that have his favour and multiplies their flocks that they may never go hungry. He educates his sons, he adorns his daughters and even in wrath he is quick to come to his senses and regret the punishments he doles out.
Apollo loves. And like mortals, there will always be some part of him that wishes to protect the objects of his affections. Apollo, however, is also an emissary of Fate. He knows that the fate of all mortal things is death. He knows that to love a mortal is to accept that eventually he will have to bury them. There is no illusion of forever, there is no fantasy where he fights against the nature of living things and shields his beloveds from death. Apollo loves and because of that love, he also accepts.
And that, while beautiful, is also tragic.
#ginger rambles#ginger chats about greek myths#greek mythology#apollo#Listen man#I think there's something extremely beautiful about Apollo's affairs#Yes I know that Ares also loves and cares for his daughters but this isn't about him#There's just something about the way that Apollo put his all into it every single time#To the point that even when he does know better he still fights because of the strength of his love#The Iliad to me will always be a love story#Yes Achilles' wrath is said to come from his overwhelming feelings towards Patroclus#but what Achilles does has nothing to do with grief or love#By the end of everything Achilles forsook that love which ought to have defined his actions based on what he was saying#and warped it into a weapon meant to satisfy the void left by his loss#Apollo though - I am always taken aback by the sheer weight of his love#towards not only Hektor but towards all of Troy in the Iliad#And how he is very careful to balance that love and all the ways he wishes he could fight against their inevitably end#with his duties as one who is both aware of the impending end and whose position in the war#has put him in opposition with his elders#That delicate balance between a love so powerful that he is willing to take on the full weight of Athena and Hera's wrath#and an understanding that the battle he fights is not for victory but simply because for love's sake#How could you not think of that as beautiful and awesome and so achingly tragic#I feel the same about both Asclepius' and Actaeon's deaths#Apollo loved BOTH of his sons - Asclepius and Aristaeus - so so SO much#He was so incredibly proud of them both and delighted immensely in the both of their victories and talents#And so when Asclepius dies and it is by his own father's hand - I have always found his act of wrath so fascinating#Honestly this could be its own separate post - but the fact that Apollo does not beg Zeus to reconsider or to bring Asclepius back#when Apollo has made cases for lenience on things like that before speaks of a level of understanding from Apollo that Asclepius was always#going to die because of his pushing of the boundary between life and death#so he doesn't bother trying to reason with Zeus or plea his grief - instead going directly to destroying something important to Zeus
