#kingdom hearts dream drop distance#khddd#braig#xigbar#my gif#his pointy shoulders deflated with age#...do you ever wonder about his scarf?#radiant garden took pride in its beauty and ansem the wise was a ruler who was beloved and admired by his people (despite... yknow)#so is it safe to assume that being a guard of this world being tasked with protecting the castle/its ruler/and the townspeople-#would be considered a prestigious occupation?#yet we see braig wearing an old tattered scarf#it's a curious addition to his uniform that looks out of place among other guards#i dont think it was added to his design to help him stand out because cmon it's not like he's competing for relevance with dilan and aeleus#braig fights from afar with his guns it's not like he's some scrappy guy that might have messy clothes from battle#i wouldn't be surprised if this was ephemer's scarf that he somehow came into possession of#and is holding onto it with the possibly of it being used as some kind of medium/waypoint#who's to say he's not still wearing it under his organization coat? just because we can't see it anymore doesn't mean it's gone#riku had an entirely different outfit under his own organization coat so who knows what xigbar has under there#i like to think braig used to be scolded for wearing the scarf because it covers up the uniform's emblem#and wearing old ripped articles of clothing isn't part of the image the guards would presumably have to uphold#but eventually they gave up on making him take it off because he just does whatever he wants#just something i think about from time to time#xigbar has always been so mysterious and cryptic i can't help but keep an extra close eye on him#especially since he's been revealed to be so much more than what he seems. who knows what tricks he has up his sleeve#i don't think it's outside the realm of possibility

July. litchi lemonade. jasmine and coconut fragrances. writing a summer reading list. all white outfits with red lipstick. dancing in the kitchen. scarves worn as belts. little glass vials of perfume and face mist clinking in an overstuffed handbag. gold-shimmering body oil. dripping peaches. curtains dancing in the breeze. dreaming of lemon trees. the cool silence of a museum at noon. filling up notebooks with drafts for various essays, snippets of poetry, memories and dreams.

I get frequently discouraged about my perceived lack of success with my books, so I am jotting down some small wins here to remind myself that it's not all about huge sales and hundreds of glowing reviews.
Pauline Gray Investigates finally has one review on Goodreads! The lack of ratings/reviews for the omnibus has been stressing me out, so this allows me to relax a little.
The copy of Magic Most Deadly I dropped off at a Little Free Library downtown a couple of weeks ago is no longer there, so someone must have been intrigued enough to pick it up to read. I hope they love it!
I have the opportunity to participate in a Maine authors' book festival later this summer. Nothing has been set in stone yet, but since getting connected with more Maine authors AND having more of a physical presence with my books in various places were two of my writer goals for this year, this is promising.
This month for the first time ever I sold more books through Draft2Digital than through Amazon.
Like I said, small wins, but enough small wins over time can add up to something more substantial and enduring than one big win.

#reading over my article draft after a while#i WOULD still like to finish it by the end of the year. but that means i have to actually write it#i cant get a handle on like. ugh what to write about like specifically#i like my introductory paragraphs but i feel like im not saying enough abt what is presumably the point of the article#and id started a sentence in my beginning of a conclusion kind of paragraph but like. what was i gonna write lmao#i also cant help but keep thinking well this is interesting to me bc im interested in it but would anyone else care#and i KNOW that in writing this article part of my job is to MAKE people care and make it seem interesting but. how#ougygygjyfjgh this is so unnecessarily difficult#and unfortunately would be less so if id outlined but i absolutely detest outlining and im bad at it#but maybe i should try to sketch out some vague outline somehow anyway#i need to make this subject relatable and interesting to someone other than the kind of freak i am#i can do this. if i focus i can do this . hopefully#the dream is to maybe sort of actually send this off to someone sometime next year#and MAYBE it will even be published. hopefully#we shall see.....

man. i just had the single most emotionally scarring dream ever. and this is coming from someone who only ever has nightmares and awful stress dreams. what the fuck
#artistically speaking? unique. and a masterpiece.#fragmentary storytelling. vignettes letting you discover this tight-knit community from different points of view#with a constant evolution through some kind of metanarrative element (video game of some sort that evolved with time)#you meet and learn about all these people and how they love each other#NOT first person pov like usual too. possibly the first time it happens. i was passive and helpless#and then. one of the most beloved people. just. goes out at night. you see her through the eyes of a neighbor#and have the worst sense of impending doom#and next thing you know she's been found dead. killed herself by slashing her own throat open.#didnt see the corpse nor the death itself it#was a series of newspaper articles and each family and community member's conversations#what the fuck man. ive never been so haunted by a dream before
