07.11.24
134.4
I felt drawn to post on here again and funnily enough it’s almost a year exactly from the last time I posted.
Since then I ended up going back to my old job and that’s helped me be a lot more physical than I was previously since I’m working in 90+ degree temps and on my feet for 9 hours every day, rather than sitting in a freezing cold, brightly lit lab all day with barely any movement at all. It was so cold in there that it actually got uncomfortable and I was constantly shivering. I never thought I’d prefer working in the complete opposite environment, but I think it’s healthier for the body to be warmer than freezing cold all day.
I’ve started intermittent fasting again recently. Eating 8 hours, fasting 16. So breakfast is usually around 7:30 and then I eat my final meal at work around 3:30. And if I have energy when I get home around 6:30 I’ll do a quick workout, otherwise I save the exercise for the Friday and the weekend when I have off.
I’ve also been eating cleaner - gotten back to my Greek yogurt for lunch and dinner, but this time I put raw honey in it as well as some trail mix (I buy one that just has a bunch of plain nuts, seeds, raisins and goji berries). And my breakfast is heartier to give me enough energy for at least the first half of the day - so I’ll have some variation of eggs and toast. It’s usually 2 slices of sourdough toast, 2 eggs over medium, salt, pepper, garlic powder, feta cheese, and more recently I’ve tried slicing up some avocado on top for some healthy fats and it’s been delicious (I thought I was allergic to avocado for the longest time, but turns out I had just eaten a bad one one time and it gave me stomach pains). I’ll also have a side of kimchi with that for my tummy cuz I’ve been experiencing really bad randomly occurring stomach problems since the last time I posted 🥺
And finally, within this past week, I’ve been listening to a podcast on Buddhism (as a way of life, not religion), and it has helped me see things so differently in the best way possible and I feel like I’m a lot calmer and have been reacting to things with less negative emotion. I was getting myself so stressed out, not just about things in my life, but even things in other peoples lives that had nothing to do with me. And stress will 10000000% prevent you from losing weight. Plus I’ve been getting a lot more anxious again because I was focusing my attention on everyone else’s problems. So I’m finding that a little meditation and focus no myself and what truly matters is helping me a lot physically and mentally so far.
So that’s what’s been going on - now to set my goal!
In a perfect world, I’d LOVE to be 115 by my birthday. That’s prime Fall time baby! But realistically, if I want to lose weight in a healthy way, I’d at least like to be around 125 by then. I’ve already lost 5lbs in a month, but I have to factor in the plateau that’ll most likely happen at some point and also factor in the birthdays and celebrations that I won’t be following a fasting schedule for, because I don’t need to be so strict on myself - I’d also like to enjoy life while celebrating with others and won’t put myself down for doing so.
I’d also like to be healthier by then because I’m 99.9% sure my boyfriend it going to propose to me around that time and I want to be able to feel good physically and mentally to enjoy that experience rather than be feeling sluggish and moody like I have been after not being health conscious.
(I’m also going to rename this account because I don’t want it to be seen as an e d account, I’d like it to be a health conscious account since I’ve grown out of those old habits, thankfully)

Supposed to hit the gym tonight buuut I'm Too Tired.
Rosa is having a big software update, waking every couple hours for hugs and comfort and milk during the night, doing her daytime naps on me. So yeah, no gym. Drinking a glass of wine and then going to bed early.
On the plus side, thanks to that software update, she now Sees Things and Reaches Out for them. With that also comes the Sticking her Hand in my Mouth during feeds. Very cute. I love her. She's also getting closer and closer to sitting up unassisted.
The sisters love each other a lot. First thing Victoria says in the morning is 'Where is Rosa?'. She gives her little sister her pacifier when she's crying, always kisses her good night. And the little one brightens up when she hears her big sister. It's adorable.
Talking about Viya, the toddler is OBSESSED with Spidey and his Amazing Friends. I got her Spiderman drinkable yogurts and she wanted to keep the bottles to use as toys. She has been sleeping with the bottles, bringing them with her in the car, they are always always within arms reach. Pilou, her bunny plushie has been renamed 'My Baby Ghost Spider'.
They're growing so fast. 4 months, and 2 years, 10 months.

Food and historical places of Kolkata
Kolkata is famous for its food and culture
“Food is symbolic of love when words are inadequate.” and “Culture is a way of coping with the world by defining it in detail.”
Famous food of kolkata
1. Mishti Doi
Tumblr media
Made out of fermented sweet yogurt, this Bengali dessert is one of the most popular culinary sweets. Though packed Mishti Doi is available in grocery stores all over the country, you should try the fresh one from one of Kolkata’s legendary sweet corners at least once in your life.
2. Macher Jhol
Tumblr media
Fish is an integral part of Kolkata’s kitchen and something Bengali can’t live without. Macher Jhol, fried or curried and paired with rice, makes for a wholesome meal that seafood lovers should try while in Kolkata. It is a spicy curried traditional dish, which includes potatoes and tomatoes other than fish. Seasoned with garlic, onions, grated ginger, and turmeric, Macher Jhol is one of the best dishes in kolkata.
3.) Rasgullas
Tumblr media
Who’s not familiar with Rasgullas, right? They are actually small balls of cottage cheese and semolina dough dipped in chashni or sugary syrup. While most people in India believe that Rasgullas are a Bengali dish, it is truly a sweet dish originating from Odisha. Bengali sweet or Odisha snack, no meal in Kolkata is complete without gulping down a pair of Rasgullas.
4.) Puchke
Tumblr media
Puchkas use a mixture of boiled gram lentil and mashed potatoes as the filling, the chutney is tangy rather than sweetish and the water is spicy. Puchkas are also slightly bigger in size and the pani-puris are darker in color.
Famous historical places of kolkata
1.) Howrah Bridge, Kolkata
Tumblr media
Howrah Bridge Commissioned in 1943, this grand structure over River Hooghly is a fine example of architectural brilliance and is perhaps the most famous landmark of Kolkata.
Renamed as Rabindra Setu in 1965, this is the world’s busiest cantilever bridge. It shoulders daily traffic of around 100,000 vehicles and more than 150,000 pedestrians.
Location:Howrah, Kolkat
2.)  Victoria Memorial, Kolkata
Tumblr media
Victoria Memorial is an outcome of Lord Curzon’s wish to create a fitting memorial to honor Queen Victoria. This white marble memorial, established in 1921, is surrounded by 64 acres of garden and consists of an opulent museum. You can see the figure of the Angel of Victory on top of the memorial’s central dome. The museum houses 25 galleries displaying an array of collections including sculptures, arms, rare and antiquarian books, paintings, etc.
Historical significance together with architectural magnificence make Victoria Memorial one of the most famous tourist places to visit in Kolkata.
Location:Queen’s Way, Kolkata
3.) Fort William, Kolkata
Tumblr media
Fort William, one of the must-visit forts in Kolkata, stands as an iconic structure, reminiscent of the city’s colonial legacy. Sitting on the eastern banks of River Hooghly, the fort covers an area of about 70 hectares. Named after King William III, this fort dates back to the year 1696 and is adorned with intricate stonework.
Presently, the fort serves as the Indian Army headquarters of the Eastern Command and so, entry to the inner sections of the fort is restricted for civilians.
Location:Maidan, Kolkata
4.) Jorasanko Thakur Bari, Kolkata
Tumblr media
Jorasanko Thakur Bari, another prominent historical site in Kolkata, is the ancestral home of the Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore. This 18th-century residence was built on a piece of land donated to Dwarkanath Tagore, the poet’s grandfather, by the renowned Sett family of Burrabazar.
Also known as Tagore House, this is the home where the poet was born, spent a major part of his childhood, and breathed his last. At present, the house serves as a museum displaying a rich collection of books, manuscripts, and other antique items related to the poet’s life.
Location: Girish Park, Kolkata

Tomorrow’s Technology on the Space Station Today
Tablets, smart appliances, and other technologies that are an indispensable part of daily life are no longer state-of-the-art compared to the research and technology development going on over our heads. As we celebrate 20 years of humans continuously living and working in space aboard the International Space Station, we’re recapping some of the out-of-this-world tech development and research being done on the orbiting lab too.
Our Space Technology Mission Directorate (STMD) helps redefine state-of-the-art tech for living and working in space. Here are 10 technologies tried and tested on the space station with helping hands from its astronaut occupants over the years.
1. Astronaut Wanna-Bees
Astronauts on the space station are responsible for everything from conducting science experiments and deploying satellites to tracking inventory and cleaning. While all are necessary, the crew can delegate some jobs to the newest robotic inhabitants – Astrobees.
youtube
These cube-shaped robots can work independently or in tandem, carrying out research activities. Once they prove themselves, the bots will take on some of the more time-consuming tasks, such as monitoring the status of dozens of experiments. The three robots – named Bumble, Honey, and Queen – can operate autonomously following a programmed set of instructions or controlled remotely. Each uses cameras for navigation, fans for propulsion, and a rechargeable battery for power. The robots also have a perching arm that lets them grip handrails or hold items. These free-flying helpers take advantage of another STMD technology called Gecko Grippers that “stick” to any surface.
2. Getting a Grip in Microgravity
We wanted to develop tools for grabbing space junk, and something strong and super-sticky is necessary to collect the diverse material orbiting Earth. So, engineers studied the gecko lizard, perhaps the most efficient “grabber” on this planet. Millions of extremely fine hairs on the bottom of their feet make an incredible amount of contact with surfaces so the gecko can hold onto anything. That inspired our engineers to create a similar material.
Now the Gecko Gripper made by OnRobot is sold on the commercial market, supporting industrial activities such as materials handling and assembly. The NASA gecko adhesive gripper that’s being tested in microgravity on the Astrobee robots was fabricated on Earth. But other small plastic parts can now be manufactured in space.
Tumblr media
3. Make It, or Don’t Take It
Frequent resupply trips from Earth to the Moon, Mars, and other solar system bodies are simply not realistic. In order to become truly Earth-independent and increase sustainability, we had to come up with ways to manufacture supplies on demand.
Tumblr media
A demonstration of the first 3D printer in space was tested on the space station in 2014, proving it worked in microgravity. This paved the way for the first commercial 3D printer in space, which is operated by Made In Space. It has successfully produced more than 150 parts since its activation in 2016. Designs for tools, parts, and many other objects are transmitted to the station by the company, which also oversees the print jobs. Different kinds of plastic filaments use heat and pressure in a process that’s similar to the way a hot glue gun works. The molten material is precisely deposited using a back-and-forth motion until the part forms. The next logical step for efficient 3D printing was using recycled plastics to create needed objects.
4. The Nine Lives of Plastic
Tumblr media
To help fragile technology survive launch and keep food safe for consumption, NASA employs a lot of single-use plastics. That material is a valuable resource, so we are developing a number of ways to repurpose it. The Refabricator, delivered to the station in 2018, is designed to reuse everything from plastic bags to packing foam. The waste plastic is super-heated and transformed into the feedstock for its built-in 3D printer. The filament can be used repeatedly: a 3D-printed wrench that’s no longer needed can be dropped into the machine and used to make any one of the pre-programmed objects, such as a spoon. The dorm-fridge-sized machine created by Tethers Unlimited Inc. successfully manufactured its first object, but the technology experienced some issues in the bonding process likely due to microgravity’s effect on the materials. Thus, the Refabricator continues to undergo additional testing to perfect its performance.
5. Speed Metal
Tumblr media
An upcoming hardware test on the station will try out a new kind of 3D printer. The on-demand digital manufacturing technology is capable of using different kinds of materials, including plastic and metals, to create new parts. We commissioned TechShot Inc. to build the hardware to fabricate objects made from aerospace-grade metals and electronics. On Earth, FabLab has already demonstrated its ability to manufacture strong, complex metal tools and other items. The unit includes a metal additive manufacturing process, furnace, and endmill for post-processing. It also has built-in monitoring for in-process inspection. When the FabLab is installed on the space station, it will be remotely operated by controllers on Earth. Right now, another printer created by the same company is doing a different kind of 3D printing on station.
6. A Doctor’s BFF
Today scientists are also learning to 3D print living tissues. However, the force of gravity on this planet makes it hard to print cells that maintain their shape. So on Earth, scientists use scaffolding to help keep the printed structures from collapsing.
Tumblr media
The 3D BioFabrication Facility (BFF) created by TechShot Inc. could provide researchers a gamechanger that sidesteps the need to use scaffolds by bioprinting in microgravity. This first American bioprinter in space uses bio-inks that contain adult human cells along with a cell-culturing system to strengthen the tissue over time. Eventually, that means that these manufactured tissues will keep their shape once returned to Earth’s gravity! While the road to bioprinting human organs is likely still many years away, these efforts on the space station may move us closer to that much-needed capability for the more than 100,000 people on the wait list for organ transplant.
7. Growing Vitamins
Tumblr media
Conditions in space are hard on the human body, and they also can be punishing on food. Regular deliveries of food to the space station refresh the supply of nutritious meals for astronauts. But prepackaged food stored on the Moon or sent to Mars in advance of astronauts could lose some nutritional value over time.
That’s why the BioNutrients experiment is underway. Two different strains of baker’s yeast which are engineered to produce essential nutrients on demand are being checked for shelf life in orbit. Samples of the yeast are being stored at room temperature aboard the space station and then are activated at different intervals, frozen, and returned to Earth for evaluation. These tests will allow scientists to check how long their specially-engineered microbes can be stored on the shelf, while still supplying fresh nutrients that humans need to stay healthy in space. Such microbes must be able to be stored for months, even years, to support the longer durations of exploration missions. If successful, these space-adapted organisms could also be engineered for the potential production of medicines. Similar organisms used in this system could provide fresh foods like yogurt or kefir on demand. Although designed for space, this system also could help provide nutrition for people in remote areas of our planet.
8. Rough and Ready
Everything from paints and container seals to switches and thermal protection systems must withstand the punishing environment of space. Atomic oxygen, charged-particle radiation, collisions with meteoroids and space debris, and temperature extremes (all combined with the vacuum) are just some conditions that are only found in space. Not all of these can be replicated on Earth. In 2001, we addressed this testing problem with the Materials International Space Station Experiment (MISSE). Technologists can send small samples of just about any technology or material into low-Earth orbit for six months or more. Mounted to the exterior of the space station, MISSE has tested more than 4,000 materials. More sophisticated hardware developed over time now supports automatic monitoring that sends photos and data back to researchers on Earth. Renamed the MISSE Flight Facility, this permanent external platform is now owned and operated by the small business, Alpha Space Test & Research Alliance LLC. The woman-owned company is developing two similar platforms for testing materials and technologies on the lunar surface.
Tumblr media
9. Parachuting to Earth
Tumblr media
Small satellites could provide a cheaper, faster way to deliver small payloads to Earth from the space station. To do just that, the Technology Education Satellite, or TechEdSat, develops the essential technologies with a series of CubeSats built by college students in partnership with NASA. In 2017, TechEdSat-6 deployed from the station, equipped with a custom-built parachute called exo-brake to see if a controlled de-orbit was possible. After popping out of the back of the CubeSat, struts and flexible cords warped the parachute like a wing to control the direction in which it travelled. The exo-brake uses atmospheric drag to steer a small satellite toward a designated landing site. The most recent mission in the series, TechEdSat-10, was deployed from the station in July with an improved version of an exo-brake. The CubeSat is actively being navigated to the target entry point in the vicinity of the NASA’s Wallops Flight Facility on Wallops Island, Virginia.
10. X-ray Vision for a Galactic Position System
Independent navigation for spacecraft in deep space is challenging because objects move rapidly and the distances between are measured in millions of miles, not the mere thousands of miles we’re used to on Earth. From a mission perched on the outside of the station, we were able to prove that X-rays from pulsars could be helpful. A number of spinning neutron stars consistently emit pulsating beams of X-rays, like the rotating beacon of a lighthouse. Because the rapid pulsations of light are extremely regular, they can provide the precise timing required to measure distances.
The Station Explorer for X-Ray Timing and Navigation (SEXTANT) demonstration conducted on the space station in 2017 successfully measured pulsar data and used navigation algorithms to locate the station as it moved in its orbit. The washing machine-sized hardware, which also produced new neutron star science via the Neutron star Interior Composition Explorer (NICER), can now be miniaturized to develop detectors and other hardware to make pulsar-based navigation available for use on future spacecraft.
Tumblr media
As NASA continues to identify challenges and problems for upcoming deep space missions such as Artemis, human on Mars, and exploring distant moons such as Titan, STMD will continue to further technology development on the space station and Earth.

Tell Mother Nurse, don’t smile and hold my hand, don’t look like my mother, don’t tell me I can heal, don’t lie to me now, don’t give me stories to read, don’t name our laughter, my nephew’s smile. Don’t you show me what I got to live for, don’t make me want this again, please don’t make me fight. I’m tired, and no, I don’t want it to be better! Better is only a father’s presence. Don’t wash off the scabs, don’t fix the brokenness that is all that I know.
Tell Renee, tell Nurse Renee…
Tell Renee I said thanks. Tell her I said thank you. Tell my nephew… tell them all I said thank you. Tell God I said, “send another one, every day”. Tell chocolate I said thank you. Tell Greek yogurt I’m back. Tell them I am home. Tell them I’m home, home is here, no matter what the shatter or the clatter I am here. I am Miss Celie here, I am so present!
Tell God, whoever he, or she, or they are, thanks, but next time, I won’t be seein’ ‘em soon.

21, 24 (lol), 43, and 44!
Thanks for the ask!!! :)
21. something you’ve kept since childhood?
I mean I still have the exact same teddy bear I got the day I was born. He used to be white and fluffy, but now he's grey and withered, with a sort of sunken appearance. His name used to be "Bodo" when I was a baby because I couldn't pronounce the word for bear in Hebrew (dubon, I think, I've forgotten Hebrew though I spoke it as a child). Then when I was four I renamed him "Turnip" after the cat from my favorite movie, The Princess and the Goblin, which I watched 500 times a day and would play pretend of fanfics about it. And I still have him!
24. if we were together on a rooftop, what would we be doing?
Hmmmm idk... probably both talking at light speed about blorbos or something lmao. Ideally with some cups of tea and fresh pastries or some such. Practicing turning into bats, idk
43. what’s your take on spicy foods?
I love them but I can't handle them. it's a terrible fate. I love spicy food so much but my entire sinuses just cannot take it. I go to an Indian restaurant and I cry the whole time but I love it. I mean, there's a certain level of spice, which is like a shockingly low level of spice, where I can't taste anything but fire anymore. Like the "medium" level. I have the spice tolerance of a baby Englishman. But the spices that I can handle, I will gladly eat. Just with like, a ridiculous amount of yogurt on the side.
44. you get a free pass to kill anyone, who is it?
I'd probably spend way too long deliberating over which dictator or CEO or whoever's death would strategically result in the most good while doing the least damage, because I can't just have fun with hypothetical scenarios, I have to take them far too seriously.
Thanks for the questions yay they were fun! everyone feel free to send me more asks. I mean that in a casual nonchalant way, I am not dying for lack of attention, which I have to specify due to my past behaviors

3 & 6
You guys aren't sick of me yet? 🥺
3. Who makes breakfast?
On hasty mornings when they need to get out of the door as fast as they can, they take turns making breakfast AKA make coffee in their basic coffee pot, pop some bread in the toaster, gulp juice straight from the jug, drown off-brand cereals in milk.
Ian is the one who actually cooks when they have the time. He makes eggs (watches YouTube videos to perfect his sunny-side up so it’s not as fried) and bacon and pancakes, which Mickey always scarfs down like there are four hungry Milkovich cousins waiting in line for their turn.
And while Mickey could probably live off PBJ until the end of his days, Ian tries to experiment with their breakfast. Tests out the bakeries in their neighbourhood on his morning runs. Doesn’t always tell Mickey how much he paid for a bag of danishes and croissants. Mickey falls in love with something called cronut with blueberry glaze and jam filling, which he promptly renames Faggy Fake Donut Shit. Tells Ian to buy him some almost every week when he’s still cocooned in his comforter and his eyes are closed.
It’s the so-called healthy option that he absolutely hates. Even threatens to go on a sex strike if Ian ever serves him granola with greek yogurt and canned fruit ever again.
6. How do you think they decorate/furnish their apartment?
I think they keep it pretty simple. We all know Mickey was worried they’d fight over their personal preferences--and he’s right up to a point.
In terms of styles, they’re both fine with keeping it in the blacks, whites, grays and light wood spectrums. It’s the function of the furniture they mostly disagree about.
Ian is all about comfort. He wants a couch they can sit on together for hours and watch TV while they cuddle close under a blanket (shut up, he knows how that makes him sound).
Mickey, on the other hand, looks for practicality. Is the counter sturdy enough to hold them while they fuck? Can they flip the side table over and hide behind it with their guns in case of an attack? Can the wardrobe fit a fake panel to hide their whole arsenal? Also, yes, the easy cleaning after part...

mom: are you following your meal plan? me: ...for the most part mom: that doesn’t sound too good... well wtf do you expect? i just discharged from inpatient and i go to residential tomorrow-i’m incapable of doing this on my own, we’ve repeatedly established that. she also proceeded to say something yesterday when we were making a grocery list along the lines of ‘you have granola, get yogurt...’ alluding to my typical [pre-treatment] breakfast. like, she has no clue how much i’m supposed to be eating and has made no effort to look at my discharge paperwork [which explains my meal plan, exchanges, portions, etc.]. which would be fine, but she repeatedly goes back and forth between saying she’s going to monitor me/make sure i’m following my meal plan and being totally hands off. you don’t get to comment if you’re not going to make an effort to understand.
similarly, when i proposed the residential facilities they were recommending, she originally said “you’re not going all the way to arizona!” then this week when i renamed the options, she was enthusiastic about the one in AZ...i just get so frustrated with her contradictory statements.

hi, i’m rereading mia and rt and i’m just wondering which characters are oc’s and which are actual people? bc you don’t use last names very often and i figured out yungblud and all time low and ashton and calum pretty quickly (actually quicker then i figured out jawn, lucas, zakk, and travis but mia was the first fanfic i read coming into the fandom oops i was so new i knew nothing) but it took me a while longer for some of the other people such as jb being jon bellion
this is always such a fun question!! and yeah, no last names because awsten doesn’t know/care haha.
clara rose is original. and otto’s parents, geoff’s family, ida jones from across the street lol. clark, everyone who works at the library and the sheriff’s department, mr. harrison and his son colt. the school counselor is an oc.
zoey from bible study is based on an old oc from fics on my ao3 that i just deleted. “zoey’s friend” is another oc from that same series based on demi lovato haha. awsten never talks to her, so she doesn’t get a name.
lucas and zakk’s families are all original. no one in awsten’s family is based on anyone real, although i figured out last year that in my head, a therapist i saw for a couple years is cast as his mom lol
leslie is an oc but she’s laura dern in my mind. travis’ siblings, nell and benny, are both original. ashley’s brother is an original character. mrs. chang who owns the yogurt place is original, and so is the guy from the newspaper and everybody who works at carson’s. emily is original and didn’t start out this way but is now cast as liv haynes.
i guess just assume that lakeview people are generally mine haha, especially if they showed up in rising tide. i will now contradict myself immediately.
maddie who works at the yogurt place is maddie rooney from liv and maddie on disney channel

aunt tabby is tabitha brown
chance is chance sutton from team 10 pls kill me hahahaha im so sorry i just think hes cute and his name was perfect and his face when he was young is great for what the character is and idk i just thought he was a good fit for what i wanted. i was originally just using his name but the more i thought about it, the more perfect he became.
i posted about this on the mia instagram when it happened, but the old music therapist, cady, whom jawn has a crush on, is based on cady groves, who died at the beginning of may this year :(( she was 30

The Report Card – Fantasy High Sophomore Year Ep 11
The One With All the Lore (in which the Bad Kids do a Lot of Reading and we are Forcibly Reminded the Plot is Happening)
We are back in the Land of the Lomenelda where the Bad Kids and Co. are waking up (well, those who went to sleep anyway). Fig and Ayda wake from their sleepover that Fig decides to keep going into the day, confusing Ayda immensely in the process.
Kristen decides to look at the research she found in Calethriel Tower and on a 22 religion check, she gets a lot of info which I will do my best to summarize here:
The information is older than what she read in the pirate book. It’s probably from 850-900 years ago--around the time of the last great Sylvan War.
The text is by high elven clerics of the Moon Goddess Galakaya (Tracker’s goddess).
There used to another goddess worshiped in Sylvere--a goddess of night, mystery, and magic and the younger sister of Galakaya. This goddess was worshiped by all of the races in the forest (and it sounds like this is who all the oblique references in the earlier research was pointing to). Doubt and the unknown were parts of worship to her which Kristen is very into. Religious differences between the races about how to worship the mystery goddess was part of what sparked the war.
Some high elven clerics came in to help broker a truce which ended up leading to the invention of the “Sylverian Heresy”. Basically, the Moon clerics advised the Mystery clerics to “unmake” the name of their goddess because, “Hey, she’s a mystery goddess, right? So isn’t knowing anything about her a contradiction of her whole thing?” They think that sounds legit and proceed to do that but it seems that it wasn’t actually altruistic advice as much as a ploy by the high elven clerics to weaken the mystery goddess.
Fabian has been dancing all night and he is feeling exhausted but super good. This becomes even more of a family affair when none other than Hilariel Seacaster shows up! She joins the dance! Cathilda joins the dance! Fig plays her bass! Riz is skanking? It’s one of those classic D&D moments where the plot utterly grinds to a halt while everyone takes turns describing the ridiculous nonsense they’re doing and it’s fantastic. Once that calms down a bit, Fabian goes on a walk with his mom and Cathilda where Hilariel tells him that the grapes 1000% do not work, which honestly checks out.
Shifting to the Abernant sisters, Aelwen (this is the canon spelling and I’m gonna try to use it for these recaps but we’ll see how that goes) has just regained her pre-torture memories. To be specific, she seems to have backed them up between being broken out of jail in Solace and the torture starting. They have a little bit of a standoff, not sure whether one of them is going to attack the other. Once it becomes clear that blasting each other isn’t on the top of their respective to-do lists, they settle into a semi civilized conversation. Adaine wants Aelwen to read her thoughts so she’ll have the memories of what happened to her and the past day (at least from Adaine’s P.O.V.) and not go back to working with their parents. Aelwen seems resistant to the prospect and asks Adaine to just tell her what happened. While they’re talking, Adaine rolls an Insight check of 10 which doesn’t net her any information (we’ll come back to this).
Aelwen tells Adaine that their parents are not on the same side but refuses to elaborate, much to Adaine’s annoyance and frustration. They kind of dissolve into almost normal sibling bickering except that it’s about stuff like, “Oh come on, I only tried to kill you one time. Don’t be dramatic.” When questioned, Aelwen says that she only joined up with Goldenhoard for fun and she didn’t really think he’d win against her and her friends. The argument ends with Adaine casting Tasha’s Hideous Laughter which knocks Aelwen out in one shot because she’s still three or four levels of exhaustion deep.
Fig goes to Telemein to ask if he knows Planeshift (which she needs to get Gorthalax out of the ruby he’s trapped in). He does not and she doesn’t trust him to figure it out in a timely manner (or to even know what a timely manner is).
Kristen goes into the Van where Aelwen is to check on her (she’s fine, just trancing). Then, she helps out while Adaine tries to rifle through Aelwen’s brain for information on their Mom. Aelwen saves from the first Detect Thoughts but she’s sleeping so Adaine just tries again. Second time’s the charm. Her sleeping brain is a little hard to read but what Adaine sees is that when she failed her Insight check with a 10, what was happening was THE SHADOWCAT WAS STANDING BEHIND HER AND TALKING TO AELWEN. And I (roughly) quote, “Don’t keep looking at me. Look at your sister. Your mom is working for me. She has the crown and she’s taking it to Sylvere. Get away from Adaine so we can talk.” On an 18 Insight check, she can tell that Aelwen and Kalina have spoken before and seem familiar with each other.
Now that Adaine has seen Kalina through Aelwen’s memories, she decides to Scry on her. Oh, and she has a Nat 1 portent roll to give her. Eat your dice Brennan! The Scry goes really weird though. Instead of just showing one person, it cycles through a bunch of people, ending with Ragh, Tracker, Sandra-Lynn, that elf Ragh slept with, and Kristen. Then, it flashes to a creepy-ass forest where she sees a wood elf covered in festering wounds and claw marks. Vines are dripping with blood. The elf stands, grabs an old spear, and scratches into the ground, “Hello Adaine. Glad you could join me.” Then, it moves back to Kristen. Um, como se dice, CONCERNING.
Adaine gets a 27 to Detect Magic on Kristen and pings nothing that shouldn’t be there. Gorgug (who is also there btw) gets the pic and asks Ragh’s hookup if he can see the tabaxi and he can. The group gets together and they realize that everyone who can all of a sudden see the Shadowcat either had sex or exhanged blood with someone who initially could (ie: Garthy got it from Sandra-Lynn, as did Tracker when she blood healed her and Kristen got it afte she hooked up with Tracker in Leviathan). Shout out to everyone who called that. And I guess the Thistlespring STD talk at the top of the season was less of a wild detour than it seemed (I wonder if it would have transferred if said people specified that they used protection).
Fabian and Fig are very down to drink some blood so they can also see the picture but they are warned off with the idea that it very likely means Kalina can see through their eyes or something similar. After they all exchange their info, Riz theorizes that Kalina is not just a servant of the Nightmare King and rather the Mystery Goddess herself, powered down. Adaine starts a private message (w/ magic, not on their crystals) with the non-infected people.
Kristen recently learned the spell Hallow which can basically turn the Van into a permanent Moon Haven. She tells Tracker and on a 15 Persuasion check, Tracker seems to have warmed back up to her a bit and is down to help. Telemein offers his library which has zero useful books but lots of meditation guides and essential oils which Adaine and Kristen respectively grab.
Having learned her lesson, Kristen tells Tracker EVERYTHING she learned from the religious texts (and Tracker notices what she’s doing). She feels weird about something that bad having been done in the name of her goddess and also she’s sorry she gave Kristen a magic STD. She does the head bump thing that dogs and wolves do and says that just cause she was mad at her, it didn’t mean she didn’t love her. She goes to talk to Sandra-Lynn and it seems like they’ve patched things up.
The Bad Kids split up again to get some stuff done before they leave (which they want to do since they are dangerously close to the elves who are probably looking for them). Adaine and Gorgug (who was also given Aelwen’s spellbook to hold) work on fixing the Hangman. Riz wants to do some research/investigating. Kristen and Tracker work on the Hallow spell. Fig guards Aelwen. Fabian hangs out with his mom.
After spilling his guts about the past week to his mom, Fabian is given an uncharacteristically lucid and touching speech from Hilariel which basically boils down to: you’re your own person and being able to get through hardship is better than never facing hardship. She also drops the information that post-yesterday’s shenanigans (grabbing the sun and all that), Aguefort has lost a LOT of funding. They won’t be able to pay their hirelings. Also, she kinda sorta wants Cathilda back because she’s out of yogurt and cannot cook. Cathilda has a little sidebar heart-to-heart with Fabian where she gives him a choice on whether she stays or goes and he decides she should go home with Hilariel. Says Cathilda, “There’s only one Seacaster left to take care of and she’s out there in a kimono.”
Oh yeah. Hilariel showed up to the woods in a black kimono. As you do.
Cathilda asks Fabian which sword he’s going to fight with now since he has two and he chooses the elven one he got last episode over the Sword of the Seacasters.
Riz, with a crazy 28 Investigation check gets a bunch of information from the stolen research which I will summarize below:
Ragh, who is also there, reminds Riz that he saw Adaine’s mom talking to Jace post-prom and then saw the Shadowcat after on his way home.
Adaine’s mom was looking for a way to pin down the Shadowcat and also how to rename the goddess of mystery. She pulled 200-300 year old records on the execution of a wood elf named Landryn Leer in the elven secret service (called the Third Court).
Landryn was a cleric, ostensibly of Galakaya, but she was actually a cleric of the goddess of mystery and was killed for espionage. When she was supposed to be healing, she was also infecting people with some kind of virus--probably whatever magic STD that lets you see Kalina in the picture.
Mom Abernant was also researching Abyssal demonic texts while she was working for Falinel (which I think is connected to the next bullet but my notes are a little hectic here).
After the first fall of Kalvaxus, a group of infernal warlocks came to help the good guys by making a boundary around the forest of the Nightmare King so no one could get in or out. The devils helped because devils hate demons and demons were on the other side.
This isn’t new information but we’re reminded that the Crown of the Nightmare King can be used to anchor a being to the material plane.
Pok, Riz’s dad, also checked out the same information (about the fall of Kalvaxus and stuff) for himself and Kalina earlier.
(Riz wonders whether the Nightmare King and the Mystery goddess are opposed rather than allies).
Anyway, the only way to pass through the barrier the devils put up is by a high ranking devil allowing passage. Mom Abernant had notes about binding a devil into a gem (Ragh recognizes that bit because of his mom’s condition) and doing a ritual to put the devil in a freshly dead body. Riz realizes that this is what was happening with him and Fig and Gorthalax in the Hotel Cavalier.
This is actually from research that Kristen does but I’ll put it here because it’s related. Apparently, only a certain kind of dead body would give the Shadowcat the gem.
Meanwhile, Fig is watching Aelwen. She hexes Aelwen (giving her disadvantage of Strength checks), disguises herself as her (Aelwen’s) mom, and smokes cloves. Ragh’s hookup shows up, recognizes Fig because she’s still carrying her bass, and asks for the hot goss on her and Ayda. He says the elves told Ayda that she’s a rockstar and therefore probably promiscuous which made Ayda teleport away. That pisses Fig right off and she gets Gorgug to take over watching Aelwen while she goes after Ayda (with a parting, “CHOKE ON GRAPES BITCH,” to Fathethriel or whatever his name is).
Aelwen wakes up but Gorgug realizes after about a minute that he’s not talking to the real Aelwen, it’s a water elemental like the one she made in her S1 battle episode. A decoy. At about the same time, Fig goes to where she was told Ayda left through a door but the door isn’t there. Then, she’s made to roll a Wisdom saving throw. Dirty 20 passes and whatever spell was happening doesn’t land. She rolls initiative but, even with a 5 turned to a 17 (she took the Lucky feat) she can’t beat a 19. Another Wisdom saving throw and this one she fails with a 10. She’s frozen with a Hold Person spell. Someone invisible grabs Gorthalax’s gem from her pocket.
She breaks out of the Hold Persons spell and casts Bestow Curse on the person--clearly Aelwen--to give her wicked gas (which is a hilarious on its face but smart after a second of thought Axford Gambit--Invisible Aelwen w/ gas = trackable by scent). Aelwen (who has the gem and her spellbook because she was in the Van, invisible and snagged it from Gorgug) drops invisibility, tells Fig, “Sorry but goodbye for now,” rips a huge fart, then teleports out. Adaine isn’t mad at Fig and Gorgug. She says she should have been watching Aelwen. The group tracks down Fathethriel who tells them Aelwen bribed him with the promise of 10 gold (the promise, not the actual gold) to mess with Fig. Fabian and Riz backhand him. Fabian calls him mean which is somehow the worst thing he could have said. Fig is ready to straight up kill this dude with Booming Blade but ends up just doing non-lethal damage and knocking him unconscious. But even Telemein hates that dude so it’s probably fine.
The group discusses the hireling situation now that school is no longer paying their stipend. Sandra-Lynn and Tracker are both willing to keep on with them without being paid but the Bad Kids insist that they’ll still pay them from their own money. Riz thinks Aelwen might be the new sacrifice and Adaine is kinda like, “Sure. Of course. Why wouldn’t this be happening.”
Cathilda has a nice goodbye with everyone. Adaine gets cookies. Fig isn’t suspicious of her anymore. Fabian puts his eyepatch back on and calls her the best surrogate mother a boy could ask for (while standing like two feet away from his actual mom who, though hurt, is like, “Valid.”)
Once they’re back in Leviathan, Sandra-Lynn gives a speech that’s half pep-talk, half apology. Then she asks Ayda to use her Sending spell and Kristen can tell even without an Insight check that she’s gonna talk to Jawbone.
After terrifying Fabian with the idea that they might track down Chungledown-Bim, they decide to talk to Garthy instead--they being Fabian, Fig and Ragh. We’ll get back to them in a second. First, Adaine goes to the Library to read over her research. Nat 20 arcana check so here comes another info-dump:
The info she found was written by mystics and shamans of wood elves, centaurs, treents, and sprites (the forest races).
Before the name of the goddess was destroyed, there were clerics driven out as heretics because they were having dreams sent by the mystery goddess which were ignored by the clerics in Sylvere. She was trying to tell everyone not to do the whole un-naming thing because it would destroy her.
There were 4 miracles called the 4 transubstantiations followed by 1 bigger transubstantiation that happened before the unmaking of the goddess’s name.
The mystery goddess was not just a goddess of magic but specifically, a witch goddess.
Anyway, the transubstantiations were these:
Her spellbook was turned into a coin.
Her familiar was turned into a plague.
Her sanctum was turned into a curse.
Her focus (a broomstick) was turned into a tree.
Her name was turned into something unknown before it could be unmade (this was the major transubstantiation).
Riz is also doing some investigation and on a 23 check, the main piece of new info he gets is that in the original alliance of Kalvaxus and the Nightmare King, the NK gave Kal a coin for his hoard to seal their alliance. They realize that they got Kal’s hoard but they don’t know if they got the exact coins he owned or just an equivalent amount of money. Riz also sees notes from the government of Falinel saying that Mom Abernant was doing this research for them with the promise that they would release Aelwen and restore their family to some level of prestige. When the government went back on their promise, she started looking into other people that could help her, like Garthy (and the government eventually found out).
Speaking of Garthy, back to Fig, Fabian, and Ragh. They try to persuade Garthy to come with them to help but Garthy is staying put. They do have some news though. Mom Abernant actually isn’t Falinel bound. She’s on the way to a town close to Sylvere (which the group kinda already knew but now they have confirmation and more specifics). The town is called Arborly and Fig actually knows someone who has a mansion (called Hollyhill) there who, while she was on tour, said she could stay there any time. With teleportation, they should be able to get there before her. Fabian has Garthy check their coins for anything fishy (looking at the aforementioned transubstantiated coin) but nothing seems amiss.
As they leave, they suddenly hear a weird rumbling and then something leaps onto Fabian and starts giving him rubber burn. It’s the Hangman! Gorgug continued working on him in Leviathan and we learn that he took a level in Artificer and was able to fix him with a 22, some help from Adaine, and a little of the wax Fabian got last season. He’s back! And he wants to shit in Chungledown-Bim’s mouth!
The next day, Kristen finishes casting Hallow with Tracker. She taps into some of the mystery goddess energy which seems like a questionable thing to do so very on brand for her. Ayda wants to come with them but she has to look after the library. However, she plans to shrink down the entire library, book by book, so she can carry it around and continue adventuring with the Bad Kids. Until then, she teleports them all to Arborly and the gates of Hollyhill.
Detention
Fathetriel for Being an Ass
Even Telemien thinks he sucks. Choke on grapes bitch.
Honor Roll
Gorgug for Fixing the Hangman
I’m going to be less than entirely predictable here any instead of giving Adaine this spot for the objectively clutch move of scrying on the Shadowcat by forcing a Nat 1 on her save, I’m going to give it to Gorgug for taking a level of Artificer and fixing the Hangman. It’s just such a sweet move. All this insanity going on around them and he took the time to figure out how to fix his friend’s bike/dog. He didn’t have to do that but he did, and in such an understated way. Plus, it totally makes sense for him being the son of two tinkers. I wonder if he can build that cell tower for Zelda now. This also seems like a good move story-wise because I feel like having these extra skills ups Gorgug’s potential for shenanigans/helpfulness out of combat a lot.
Random Thoughts
What did I say? What did I say at the end of last recap? I KNEW we’d gone too long without a Shadowcat sighting. I KNEW we were about to get wrecked!
Made a couple of oblique references to this in the recap but I’ll say it outright now. The gang is all level 9 now!
There was a LOT of lore in this episode so, if I got anything wrong and you notice, please tell me and I’ll fix it when I get the chance.
Sad to see Ayda go but happy that the Hangman’s back! I hope The Bad Kids take a page from Jester’s book and Sending her all the time.
Good on Fabian/Lou for letting Cathilda go in a move that was right for the story but objectively worse for the inevitable coming battle.
“I couldn’t have one nice day with my sister.”/”No.” (“He’s all the bad guys,” Siobhan says in a resigned tone.)
Speaking of the Abernants, I think Arianwyn is how you spell Adaine’s mom’s name which I am going to try and get used to before she shows up again and I have to type it 47 times. Also, very funny that Ally/Kristen learned the name Adaine and was like, “She is the only valid Abernant. I refuse to learn any more names.” Anyway, this campaign needs less elves and more goblins. Riz. Pok. Sklonda. Things I can spell.
I question whether the Mystery goddess is actually going to be an antagonist. Both because it seems like she got majorly screwed over by a bunch of uptight high-elves who have been nothing but trouble so far (sans Adaine and Hilariel to a degree) so I’m inclined to be on the side they’re not on and also because this was clearly a plot point written with Kristen in mind. So I guess the question is, is this going to be a temptation for Kristen or a safe harbor?
Did the curse on the NK’s crown get properly dispelled by Adaine’s mom? Wondering because of the whole sanctum being turned into a curse thing. Though, I guess breaking the curse could be what turned it back into the sanctum.
Lol at all the people in the comments questioning whether Brennan ripped his lore from My Little Pony when all the Moon goddess, sister goddesses stuff was being explained.
Did Brennan say how Hilariel knew where Cathilda was? She doesn’t have magic, she’s some kind of Fighter. Does she have Cathilda Magic Lojacked?
“Yes, The Ball! Feel it! Yes, Ball, skank!”
Hilariel, like Jareth the Goblin King, can contact juggle, which checks out.
I’m very curious about what Brennan has planned for Aelwen because I think Adaine offering to willingly fail a save so she could read her mind was a very clutch, “I had a week to think about this and you better believe I thought about it,” move from Siobhan and I don’t know why Aelwen would be hesitant to take that opportunity (besides maybe thinking it was a trap?) except for the meta reason that a quick reality check would joss some important story beats. I could be wrong but that’s just the vibe I got. Also if any of y’all are inclined to write the alt version of this scene where Aelwen *does* do that, def tag me so I can read it.
The vibe that was going on when Adaine and Aelwen was talking was fascinating. I kinda loved it? Like, they were still fighting and Aelwen was still being a bitch and Adaine was still super annoyed but it felt almost blunted? Like they were shooting at each other but with Nerf guns instead of AK-47s for a change. My read on Aelwen is that she enjoys having a relationship with Adaine, even if it’s antagonistic. I think that Aelwen would much rather fighting with Adaine every day than for Adaine to not care about her at all. It’s like the horseshoe thing, you know? Love and hate are much closer to each other than they are to indifference. Better to have her care about you in the wrong direction than not at all. Anyway, this is so the vibe that I was expecting from them when they linked back up post-rescue. Wish we had gotten a little more before she escaped but I’m really liking this plot thread.
Also, curious about how truthful Aelwen was being when she said she only joined up with Kalvaxus for fun and was counting on Adaine and Co. to stop them. And, while we’re wondering about things, I’m curious about what Aelwen’s previous relationship with Kalina was. Like, besides creating a diversion to steal the crown, how do the events of this season hook up with the events of last season in a way that explains the relationship? Or is it not related? What is the timeline of events here?
And was Kalina actually there talking to her do you think or was it more of a projection type deal?
Sidenote: I think Brennan is taking liberties with what Detect Thoughts can do (in this and especially last episode) but I think it’s a very good creative choice and it makes things a lot more interesting.
Also, gotta say, the way the plot ended up turning out re: Aelwen’s Escape was just *chef’s kiss*. Like, you had Fig bring up the ruby, unprompted earlier in the episode--reestablishing it as a thing that exists. Then they gave the spellbook to Gorgug. Then, Fig was the one who took up guard duty and she happened to switch up with Gorgug, giving Aelwen and, by extension, Brennan a perfect series of events to get her out of there. Wild.
This episode explains how the Shadowcat/picture thing is spreading but not where Riz and Sandra-Lynn got it from initially. Like, I assume Sklonda got it from Pok. And it’s very plausible Riz got it from one of them somehow but when would they have shared blood? That’s not a normal family thing to do. Did his dad give him a kidney or soemthing? I’m probably overthinking this.
Emily, I’m begging you. Please keep bringing up those rock and roll babies until Brennan is forced to make it plot relevant.
Speaking of, I was getting so many Night Yorb vibes from that mystery goddess “don’t speak her name” conversation and if the Night Yorb becomes plot relevant I swear I’m gonna personally make Brennan eat his dice.
“I mention everything to Tracker from now on.” You know what that is? Growth
I loved Fig saying “I don’t know enough about you to know if we wanna kill you,” to the Shadowcat by directly looking at Riz and him being like, “UMMMMMMMM.”
Gilear, wildly, was not mentioned once in this episode and you think he would have been since his girlfriend showed up.
I wonder if Fandrangool has better stats than the Sword of the Seacasters. I also wonder if I’m spelling that correctly. Doubt it.
“My vices rule.”
One thing I didn’t recap but should have were the dreams in the first episode and I feel like I should go back and watch them because they feel like they could become relevant any time now but that sounds like a lot. I’ll try and watch them before next recap though so I can connect any obvious dots.
Is there anything more pure than Murph cracking up at Emily’s shenanigans.
I have a note in my notes that says “Fig/Virgin” but it’s like that one gif. “Why am I gasping? I already knew that.”
We originally thought the Shadowcat didn’t want people to be able to see her but now it’s seeming like the opposite is the case. It looks like this is a systematic way to *force* people to be able to see her. If that’s what’s going on then that’s a brilliant reversal from Brennan.
Aelwen, when she gets her memories back, says something like, “Since I’m in a hot tub and you found what you found, I’m assuming you’re not gonna kill me this second.” And one, funny that she can’t even directly reference the one compliment she ever gave Adaine while in her right mind but also, the implication seems to be (at least partially) that she thought, “Let me say something nice about Adaine on this charm to buy me some goodwill so she doesn’t immediately kill me once she restores me,” which is so calculated and I kinda love it.
I had a conversation with drinkingdeadpeopletea while the ep was going on that basically went like: Me: They better watching Aelwen so she doesn’t escape. Her: lol she’s def gonna.
“Does your mom smoke cloves?”
The goddess’s familiar being turned into a plague and the thing going on with Kalina and being able to see her being like an STD and Goldenhoard presenting as a dragonborn but being an actual dragon and Kalina being a tabaxi and cats being the most classic familiar for witches and the goddess being specifically a witch goddess all feel possibly related to me, but that could just be my brain playing the association game and connecting things that don’t necessarily connect.
The fact that other characters (read: Fathethirel) read Fig and Ayda’s relationship as possibly romantic (in an attempt to mess with her of course, but still) and Fig reacted so strongly (well strongly and in that specific way because I have no doubt she’d also beat a dude within an inch of their life for messing with, say Gorgug or Adaine) is something I’m going to star for later. [Edit: Brennan clarified on the Discord recently that Ayda (or at least this version of her. Phoenix reincarnation and all) is 17 so y’all are all good to go shipping-wise). As is Tracker, by the by, but I think we were all pretty sure Brennan was keeping that above board.]
Siobhan’s face when Fig says that she’s “straight edge except for hallucinogens.”
“I’m gonna buy you an orange.”
This episode, Adaine, with advantage, rolled a nat 20 (the other roll being 1). Brennan got one natural 1 (though it wasn’t rolled, it was a portent roll) and Gorgug also rolled one Nat 1 but it’s important that I note it was for giving the Hangman an ass to shit in Chungledown-Bim’s mouth.

07 Ghost - The World! (Part 1)
So I guess 07 Ghost had a radio show? This is such a weird concept to me. Like, do they have a radio channel in Japan that’s just really anime-specific? If, for example, Avatar: The Last Airbender had a radio show with all of the voice actors, where the heck would that broadcast from?
The radio show is actually longer than the anime too, 30 whole episodes! I guess it’s not that surprising because it’s very low effort. Kind of like a podcast between friends. You can find it on nico nico douga (I’ve added a few links below to point you in the right direction).
Episode 1
My first impression is that this isn’t really something you’re meant to sit down and listen to start-to-finish. It’s like most talk radio where you’re meant to hear it during your drive to the grocery store or something. That being said, I had fun listening to this as a Japanese practice exercise. The fact that it’s not subtitled means I have to focus on it really hard, which keeps me from getting bored.
Basically in this episode they introduce their characters (described Teito and Mikage’s personalities), read fan mail, and play what sounded like a game of pictionary (although they renamed it “What’s inside Pandora’s box?”) I guess future episodes will have guests, so I look forward to that.
Episode 2
This episode was somehow longer than the first, but had about the same amount of content. The show is broken up into “corners” that shift around each episode. The ones I remember are: 07 Ghost news corner, fan mail corner, and then they usually play a game that’s 07-ghost related. This time they had to guess “What would X character say/do in Y situation.” The hilarious thing was that Mikage’s VA clearly did not read the manga and maybe didn’t even watch the show lol. He doesn’t know anything about the characters and struggles to remember their names. Meanwhile, Teito’s VA is either a superfan or just likes to do her homework because she was killing it. Honestly the straightman/dumbass dynamic fits their characters.
So far my favorite part of the series is hearing the fanmail. This was recorded around the time the anime was coming out, and it’s interesting to hear what the Japanese fanbase had to say when the series was fresh.
Episode 3
In this episode they had their first guest, Castor’s VA! He didn’t really add much to the show so it kind of felt like a wasted opportunity if you ask me. I wish they would have interviewed him or something. This time around featured a lot of kanji discussion (apparently Mikage’s VA isn’t very good at reading kanji) and they discussed what they’d like to try out in the 07-Ghost world (riding a hawkzile and using zaiphon). Mikage’s VA continued to act dumb and got spanked at one point for losing a game (I think?).
Episode 4
Okay, this was my favorite episode so far because they got Ayanami’s VA to guest star! AHHHHHH! His voice is so sexy lol. The first thing Teito and Mikage’s VAs did was basically say “so...why is your voice so nice?” lol. They discussed what ages their voices dropped and he said 5th grade. They talked about Teito’s VA’s voice change as well and I was just like “huh? Does that happen with girls?” Like, yeah obviously our voices change too, but I definitely don’t have any recollection of an exact time when that happened.
Anyway, this episode had the usual “game show-like” games that were fun to listen to, as well as listener mail. Basically every letter was bullying Mikage’s VA which was hilarious and Teito’s VA continued to rag on him for not reading the manga. Listening to Ayanami’s VA speak naturally was fascinating because his natural speaking voice isn’t far off from the character’s. Man if I met a guy with that deep a voice in person, I’d probably melt.
Episode 5
This one was pretty boring, especially compared to episodes 3-4. There was no guest and all of the “corners” felt pretty copy-paste from previous episodes. They chatted about White Day a little and what their characters would give on White Day. They also tried weird drinks/food towards the end that were requested by viewers.
Not much to say about this one, but I’m really enjoying listening to these. They have the low budget “just hanging out” that’s relaxing to listen to and I like the chemistry of the hosts. It’s also really good listening practice when I can’t rely on video or subtitles.
Episode 6
This episode was fun because Labrador’s VA dropped by with his sweet voice. I actually had to double check and make sure his VA was a guy because I was like “wait...do guys sound like this??” I found his website and apparently he does the voice for Phineas from Phineas and Ferb, Beast Boy from Teen Titans and Fiver from Watership Down!! I should really watch more Japanese dubs of western stuff.
The conversation leaned heavily on food in this one, which I appreciated. Apparently Labrador’s VA just eats constantly and never gets fat (must be nice). Mikage’s VA described Labrador’s eating habits as Princess-like” because he eats a lot of sweets and expensive foods (like scallops). Jealous tbh. Mikage’s VA was roasted again for not reading the manga which will never not be funny.
Episode 7
So unfortunately, this one’s audio cuts out around 35 minutes in. At first I thought that there was something wrong on my end, but I tried the video on my phone and my laptop and neither would cooperate. Ah well, the parts I was able to hear were fun. In this episode it’s Namikawa’s B. Day (Mikage’s VA) so they celebrate that. They also talk about hanami because this was broadcasted in the spring. The “challenges” they do that are mostly 07-Ghost trivia are getting kinda cringey because Namikawa loses literally every time (since he didn’t read the manga lol).
Episode 8
In this episode Mikage’s VA was replaced with Hakuren’s VA because Mikage’s schedule was “too full” lol. It was interesting to hear Jun Fukuyama speak naturally, I feel like out of all the voices I’ve heard on this show so far, his has the biggest gap between his speaking and acting voice.
This episode was really chill, they talked about Jun’s cycling hobby and played some 07-Ghost trivia games. I found the Japanese really easy to understand this time around so I was able to play along which made things more fun. This one felt on the shorter side with less “corners” than usual. Teito’s VA keeps calling the show “yuru radio” which feels very accurate.
Episode 9
Another Hakuren episode. Honestly, I think I prefer the chemistry between Mikage/Teito’s VAs more because they have a deeper contrast in both their voices and personalities. Teito and Hakuren’s VAs feel more evenly matched so it’s kind of like listening to one person talk to themselves. The beginning of this episode was difficult for me to understand because they were talking so fast! I tried to slow down the playback speed but that just sounded horrible so I just toughed it out. Topics included: Golden Week, finger size (I think as like a fortune telling thing), and onsen.
At this point these episodes just fly by, I’ve really gotten used to their rhythm and the constant switching from corner to corner prevents me from getting bored. It took me a long time to get through these first 10, but hopefully I’ll be able to just binge the next 20.
Episode 10
Yaaay, episode 10! They celebrated by having Frau as a guest and Mikage’s VA returned. This episode actually had me laughing out loud a few times (which is rare because my Japanese isn’t very good lol). It was great to finally have Frau’s VA as a guest and I think the show’s more fun with 3 people rather than 2. Frau’s VA has a very “bored” sounding voice, like he’s too cool for school or something. Not to say he wasn’t fun to listen to, he’s just pretty monotone.
Unfortunately, I didn’t understand the game they played (creatively titled “07 Ghost: The Game”) at all this episode. It involved a lot of counting but I was just really lost as to what was going on. What I did understand was “The Last Supper” where they tried yogurt mixed with various things. They tried yogurt + mayo which a listener claimed tastes like cream cheese. Predictably, it tasted pretty gross and I got squicked just imagining it. Onto the next 20!

omg the marina & the diamonds prompt list ! eye know you said pairing but can i get “Get what I want ‘cause I ask for it/not because I’m really that deserving of it” -Primadonna with Steve and whomever you want or solo? 👀 thanks, legend!
Jess you know i’ll do literally Whatever You Want
Steve is Fine. Of course he is. That’s how people are. All the time. Fine.
Except everything is gone. He keeps looking for things that aren’t there. He broke an egg beater. (If it wasn’t run by electricity, he probably just would’ve over-whipped his eggs.)
He keeps picking up shirts that look like his size and then he looks at himself in the mirror and it’s wrong. Too small. Too big. Too...
He doesn’t want to admit he has a problem. Because he doesn’t. Tons of men from the Great War came home and screamed in their sleep. That’s just what war does. He’ll get over it.
He doesn’t know why they keep calling it World War I. Not until he realizes that his war was the second one.
He looks at photographs that seem incredibly old. His fingers trace faces delicately. He knows that the photos are old. But they are not. He remembers wanting his picture taken with his Ma, remembers that it was too expensive and unnecessary.
And now...he’s like a man with everything.
“Let’s hear it for Captain America!”
He can hear the ghost of that ringing in his ears. He wasn’t looking at Bucky at the time, too focused on Peggy and winning and finally doing something.
There’s no time. Time runs out. Or he has all the time in the world.
Depends on if he’s optimistic about being frozen solid for seventy-odd years.
People pay for things for him. He gets free hot dogs. He doesn’t exactly mind it, but he doesn’t need four. So he gives the extra to the men with the signs on the streets, and feels guilty for a brief moment that he remembers signs like these from before.
Steve is Fairly Sure he doesn’t deserve a lot of what he has.
He gets his own place at Stark Tower. Avengers Tower? He’s not sure if it’s renamed. Tony left up the “A” and nothing else.
He has a nice mattress. He doesn’t sleep on it. Carpet’s soft enough as it is. The AI (which holy fuck) asks if he would like any physician or therapy. It would benefit him, so the story goes.
“I’m fine,” Steve says. “Just not used to modern mattresses, right?”
Right?
Jarvis doesn’t call him out on it.
He doesn’t tell the team he’s getting about three hours of sleep. Captain America doesn’t need sleep. All he needs is justice, truth, and the American Way, whatever the fuck that means.
(But Steve Rogers? God, he needs sleep so badly.)
It’s not until he’s sitting at the kitchen table at five in the morning that Tony comes in.
Tony looks terrible, no beating around the bush. He has deep purple ringing his eyes, his hair is stuck up in every direction from frustration, and he sees Steve.
“You too?”
“Depends on what it is,” Steve says carefully. “You already awake or up early?”
“Yes.”
Steve snorts and takes a bite from his yogurt.
“You on your daily do-good run?” Tony asks.
“No. Don’t go this late.”
“Hardy har har,” Tony responds. “I know it’s bullshit, Steve.”
“Which part?”
“Everything,” Tony says. “You’re getting used to a brand new environment and what, you don’t lash out? You keep saying ‘golly’ which I know has to grate on your nerves. You’re performing for expectation.”
Hit it right on the nose. Steve tenses.
“And?”
“Take it from someone who was trained to do that since they were three, it doesn’t go as well as you think it should,” Tony says. “So, how much sleep have you lost?”
“I got an hour and a half, if that counts,” Steve offers.
“Because this is me, I am not sad for you,” Tony says. “Can I ask how you are?”
“Fine.”
Tony smiles to himself.
“How many times have you said fine and not meant it? I’ve said probably a million times, without exaggeration.”
“In this time? Probably over a thousand,” Steve says. “You...get it?”
“No one comes back from war okay,” Tony says. “Especially not you. You got held up on a pedestal and no one ever took you off. Including yourself. You think that Captain America is a better than Steve Rogers ever could be.”
“And you know this how?”
“Well you don’t see me stop improving on Iron Man suits, now do you?” Tony asks, a bitter smile on his face. “But enough moping, let’s do something Steve.”
Tony and Steve.
Not Captain America.
Tony makes Steve bake cookies with him without a recipe.
“I wanna see how quickly we can fuck it up.”
(Answer: in five minutes.)
Steve actually goes and sees a therapist.
He finds out that he has a lot of bad coping mechanisms, including sleeping on a carpet.
“I don’t care that it’s a billionaire’s carpet, it still should suck,” Bill says. Bill is a nice therapist. He got Steve to try creamer in his coffee.
So Steve goes mattress shopping with Tony, who demands luxury and also gets Steve a stiffer mattress that he has the best sleep of his life on.
Steve is the one who gets Tony out of a lab-haze by making his own bar and naming drinks the worst thing in the world.
“Why is this one called “Hurricane But Green?” Tony asks, raising an eyebrow.
“Because I wanted green food coloring,” Steve answers. “Now drink it and tell me if it tastes like shit.”
Tony orders another.
They both tease each other, and the teamwork generally gets better.
Steve starts getting things that he likes, and he doesn’t feel guilty for it.
The first thing he buys is a set of charcoals.
And he starts to do a portrait of his family. All of them.
