wow so I have like 3 analysis in progress that touch on this topic but I really need to just talk about it rn with its own spotlight.

Aziraphale has this entire life that he's built for himself on earth, after armageddon he's thriving. When we catch up with him in Season 2 his first scene is literally him going to check in with one of his tenants, and throughout the season we see that he has a decent relationship with nearly Everyone on the block. He has an entire life for himself all hashed out and pretty.

Crowley... does not. His cold open in Season 2 is back in St. James park, checking in with Shax, finding out the gossip on Hell. He doesn't have his apartment, he only has his Bentley and the few plants he could fit in it. He doesn't have any other human friendships. His entire life and everything he loves to do is built entirely around Aziraphale.

This is something that I just find so fucking thrilling because when it comes to their characters and where exactly they are in their arcs right now, it's essentially like looking into a mirror.

Aziraphale knows exactly who he is when he's on his own. He nurtures his own relationships with humans he sees often, he's a nice landlord, he loves books and classical music, and hot cocoa. But, Aziraphale still holds onto the ideals of heaven. He still cares about doing good and being forgiving. He still cowers and jumps at the opportunity to help heaven, not because he wants to but because he's supposed to because he's still an angel.

Crowley has nothing. He has his car, which he drives to a secluded location to park every night, only to drive it right back in the morning. He's only even vaguely recognizable because people associate him with Aziraphale and this is fine for him, he could care less. He doesn't really need to know who he is or process his traumas, why would he when he can put all his attention and focus and love and care directly into Aziraphale? His friend, who has always been his friend, the one person who has always stood by him. Who cares about heaven and hell, he has Aziraphale.

When we finally see them on their own and without the influences of their head offices, we see the opposite of what we'd expect, and nearly the opposite of the outcome we see in episode 6. Crowley is the one constantly checking in with Hell (wether he likes it or not), and Aziraphale is the one who's living care free without even thinking about heaven. When he does something good that he wants to report, he just calls Crowley.

this whole dance of Crowley not knowing who he is without Aziraphale and Aziraphale knowing who he is fundamentally but not knowing how to break free from the confines of Heaven that stop him from truly embracing Crowley in the end, it's just so delicious.

thing is I am very staunchly of the opinion that Chilchuck really mainly decided to join the Falin revival mission bc of Laios, but I do like when fics expand on his relationship w Falin and make that central to his reason for going back down. Bc I think they’re cute and I love Falin and I love Chilchuck and I like to see them being friends.

Been hving this theory for a few months now that this "Master Wu caused the Merge" thing is just Wu having been surprised by how soon it happened. It wasn't supposed to come this early, we've heard him say it in multiple flashbacks

Also, theory that kind of goes along with this is that Ras is responsible for it happening so early. He mentions in s2 to Jordana (possessed by Rox) that he used Dragon Icons (like that really pretty dagger/sword Lloyd got from Motion at the end of s2) to lure the Energy Source Dragon and then captured it. At the end of s1 when Lloyd goes to release said Source Dragon (with the Dragon Energy Cores!) it says that 'freeing it could cause the whole cosmos to destabilize. That destabilization could've resulted in the Merge, which then threw Wu for a loop because it wasn't supposed to happen yet but it did. Oh, also I think it's obvious that either Wu can do some astral projection stuff now or he's actually dead (I kinda figured it would be the latter after the second batch of s1 dropped in 2023 but remained silent.. He's probably dead tho)

plenty of people are going to analyse these pictures in a much more eloquent way but i still want to throw out a small perspective i have on nace's photos

especially as someone who's struggled with body image and self perception and weight for practically half my life (so tw for talking about those things kinda)

because i'm sure we're all very aware nace has struggled with those things in the past too, and i can't help but think about how those things will have affected him while having his shoot done.

compare what nace wears here to bojan's topless photos. bojan is emotional in a very different ways in those pictures, and the shirtlessness enhances that, but he's confident in his 'nakedness' (not happy, arguably, but confident enough in his body). compare it especially to kris, who appears the most naked out of all of them in their shoots, despite wearing a shirt, because of the all the artistic choices made and how much more relaxed within himself he is compared to the others in his own 'therapy session'. compare it even to jan's all-black long-sleeved shirt; jan (or the image of jan being presented to us through damon's lens – that's a whole other story in of itself) is making a choice in what he shows of himself, and he's certain in his choice. there's no resistence or discomfort or yearning in the shadows he's hidden himself in.

nace, meanwhile, is somewhere in the middle of all of them. he's in a short-sleeved shirt, tugging it further to give us a glimpse at a little more. aside from, obviously, letting us see his gorgeous tattoo sleeve better, i think one of the things this could well be showing us is nace's strides in confidence, alongside the discomfort he likely still feels.

because he's ready to show off his arms, and he's tugging at the fabric to show a little more than we usually get to see and, let's be real, it's fucking hot. he's confident enough now to start leaning into being found attractive, which is fucking beautiful.

but, at the same time, he's not ready to go fully shirtless – he's not at the point where he can strip and pose purposefully like bojan can, or strip and let himself relax into his identity like kris can. and, unlike the way jan hides himself, which feels very purposeful on jan's part, it doesn't feel like it's fully nace's choice – or, at least, there's tension and discomfort there still that he doesn't get a choice in hiding. his hands are clenched and clinging to the material, his arms are crossed protectively over his chest, and his eyes?? they're heartstoppingly dangerous. protecting himself and keeping the audience at a distance, but alluring and drawing you in at the same time; he's so confident in himself these days, but he still likely carries a lot of his old discomfort.

couple all of that with the way he looks in the last picture up at the top of this post – the way he's rubbing at his face, like he's trying to mould it into a shape, almost. all these three images have a kind of tourmented edge to them.

luckily, similarly to bojan's safe sweater shots, nace gets catharsis after all these intense emotions in these soft, tender shots, where his eyes are so much brighter and then heavily lidded and peaceful.

...oh, and of course, as has already been pointed out by @radioactive-cloud, nace gets his safe sweater in the form of jan, and we get to see that playful smile when he's around someone who makes him feel comfortable in himself ♡

why do we not talk abt how the Heaven sequence of GA 2001 has insane implications on the rest of the lore. like I know next to nothing about the cosmic side of DC but wdym Barry and Ollie were just hanging out in Heaven together, and there’s also little Robin Jason swinging around non-existent skyscrapers. does that mean when Barry and Ollie die (permanently) they’re going to go back up to Heaven??? how is it decided who goes to DC Heaven??? I’m sure there’s DC Hell, and Ik the Presence is basically DC God, but I don’t think DC comics would just lift Protestant Christianity mythology wholesale and just put it in their universe. When you start to think about getting tested for adhd and autism and go "huh... so i have this theory that, as much as we the fandom can see that crowley is in love with aziraphale, crowley himself, the character as canon in the series, doesn't actually know that what he's feeling is love. he doesn't actually know he's in love with aziraphale, and season 2 is going to help to flesh out his side of the romance more thoroughly.

someone who is more entrenched in good omens lore can probably do a better deep dive, but I've always found crowley's little kindnesses to aziraphale as things that he has to frame as an exchange, or as possibly beneficial to his own needs first. even all of the working together in modern day to avert the apocalypse comes across more as crowley behaving like an individual that is terrified of being alone and feeling like he needs the extra assistance to keep his independence from an organisation that he wants no affiliation with. so he has no choice but to resort to asking aziraphale for that assistance, because who else has as much of a stake in the end of the world as him?

and when the bookshop burns down, there is a moment where he's freaked the fuck out because he really truly is all alone and he has no idea how he's going to manage by himself. but the idiot will never, even under pain of death, be able to admit to himself that what he feels is love for the angel. he says "best friend", he rants about becoming a demon because he thinks he's going to be tied to hell forever once the apocalypse begins, and he laments and cries about it to the bottom of a bottle.

so i have a feeling that that's what season 2 is. season 2 is crowley's "the blitz" equivalent for aziraphale. it's him realising that he wants aziraphale not because he's terrified of being alone, or because he needs aziraphale's help. it's him coming to terms with the fact that he's hopelessly smitten with the angel, and that's why "you go too fast for me crowley" had hurt him so terribly all those years ago, even though he could never understand why.

we were seeing the crowley/aziraphale relationship in season 1 through aziraphale's perspective. hopefully, this means that we get to see the same relationship through crowley's perspective in season 2!
