Gotouge's Oneshots

I'm reading Gotouge's (KNY Author) previous oneshots since I finally bougth the compilation, and? It's been pretty fun! Here are some of my thoughts on them if you're interested Kagarigari is a clear predecesor to Kimetsu no Yaiba and even if we don't get much info on the main slayer character Nagare, but I'd say he is more of a Yoriichi or Giyu character rather than Tanjiro.. Tamayo and Yushiro don't seem to change much from canon, they're like more basic versions of themselves I'd say, and Mr.Tokikawa despite being a clear inspiration for Muzan, doesn't act much as Kibutsuji does except for his arrogance. I don't get where the "The other demon is pilot Douma" Thing came from tho, the author states they wanted to make a "dracula- like character" and his powers kinda resemble weakened Muzan in the final battle more like Douma.The only thing I'd say is more Douma like is how he mentiones that girls taste better than men tbh. It's like Gotouge mixed those two characters to make the actual Demon King in Kimetsu Monju Shirou Kyoudai was way more entertaining than I expected, Umaune and Masatada are pretty good foils for eachother, and without spoiling to much, their abilities are very interesting, at least for me. Their backstory is a bit reminiscent of the Shinazugawa brothers, specially in the father department, tho I'd say theres a bit of Shinjuro there as well in the "training" department. The designs are reminiscent of Obanai for Matsada, and Genya for Umanue, tho their personalities remind me more of Nakime and Gyutaro respectiveley, personally. It's a very fun read if you don't have Entomophobia, but if you're scared of bugs this might not be the best choice for you. Rokkotsu-san, I'll be honest, almost made me cry a bit. Abara's overall personality and attitude reminded me of Gyomei, not just because he is also blind, but because he has this benevolent aura round him, he wishes to protect to save others on top of everything and to me, it was very well expressed. His ability is something some of my own characters have and it was interesting to see how it could be depicted in a manga, definitiveley helpful. To me it was very emotional and, Unless Zigzag makes me change my mind, it's probably my favourite one. IDK I just *Felt* this one, you know? It's also fun to note that a character from Monju Shirou Kyoudai also appears in this manga, making both universes conected, and as someone who aims to make a "Multiverse" of sorts with their own stories eventually, this was a cool detail Haeniwa no Zigzag Was pretty interesting as well, I love flowers and plants, so the ideas behind Zigzag's powers were super cool to me. I like the concept behind him a lot as well, his curse and all that. Zigzag clearly resembles Uzui, both phisically and personality wise and It was fun to see such a extravagant character in a more modern era. The antagonist of the story also looks a bit like Uzui's brother we get to see in the anime (at least he looks like him to me). It was probably the one that felt more fleshed out, since it was the last one made before Kimetsu, and I did like it a lot as well, but Rokkotsu-san remains my favourite.

cobalts art is more so of his lab rats and so he wont have to take pictures of them + good stress reliever and bloom mostly learned art from his little sister and is mostly doodling for fun. i do have a fic/comic in mind where they draw eachother :3c so be ready for that

What is one major difference between them?

cobalt and bloom, while bring the same person, just different universe, are both victims of trauma, but they both chose to express it in a different way if that makes sense

bloom got genuine help from his family and friends and ended up repressing his feelings mostly due to the power of uğur turning the universe into a peaceful world

meanwhile cobalt DIDNT get help and the abuse continued throughout his life, before he eventually spiraled into using murder and death as a way to show his abusers (and whoever is close to them) how he felt all those years, thankfully magnus kind of helped him

Does one act as a narrative foil to the other? How so?

uhh tough question but yeah i could say so? the two of them are mostly paired together in situation (thats my fault! /silly) after ATP (antidotes to poison) takes place and rlly they kind of intertwine, even in a non acm situation theyre still paired together through the various mirror/shadow imagery and symbolism

bloom mostly views it as he would with any friendship: permanent. sometimes things might not go his way, but hes alright with that! he doesnt mind losing a friend. not again at least.

cobalt, having major trust issues especially after facade being allies with him sees it as something fake. somethin thatll pass, or more so, he'll be used and abandoned like the foundation did to him

What is their best memory together?

cobalt is, well, kind of, confused on wheter he should trust bloom or not. due to his trust issues he majorly avoids everyone, and it took a WHILE for him to even trust magnus [his therapist, mind you], but he does somewhat trust bloom

bloom is kind of on a similar page, he trusts cobalt, yes, but considering cobalts criminal record and overall off puttingness and general mean behaviour bloom is somewhat scared of him. dont worry theyre best friends to me though

cobalt is more so on the bad side with most people in acm, while bloom is on the good side of most people (the only 'bad part' about him is that he genuinely doesnt understand things such as swear words and innapropiate behaviour, although he does detect what things are bad, he doesnt get the meanjng of WHY its bad, or why people even percieve something as bad).

but mutual enemies are most likely facade and solace themselves, i mean yes they got a redemeption but that doesnt mean cobalt and bloom FORGIVE them

OKAY CAUSE LIKE .

Obviously they’re both depressed bitches who throw themselves into creating something that seemingly doesn’t even matter to them that much outside out of the void they’re trying to fill it with . They seem completely unfulfilled in their lives unless the object of their fixation (Lucifer’s daughter and Vox’s…uh, homoerotic rival?) is somehow involved . They were both left by someone very important to them, Alastor and Lilith, and they both have a rivalry with Alastor .

But! The thing I’m thinking of right now is their relationship with the past . We know that Lucifer has some sort of connection with swans

Which given his fixation with ducks immediately makes me think of the ugly duckling tale . The ugly duck becomes the beautiful swan, right? Well that made me think more about Lucifer’s fixation with ducks . Is it representative of his longing for a time in his life that, objectively, kinda sucked shit just because it was at least.. not this? The emptiness that comes with being wholly alone ? And even if it is a duck, it’s still angelic . It seems like everything about him clings onto heaven, up to his disdain for sinners .

Now ! Vox! His yearning for the past is very well known, given his clear almost infatuation with Alastor . Now we don’t know much about their relationship, but my headcanon is that when they were friends… Alastor really didn’t treat him very well . Not knowingly, he just . Didn’t entirely know how to act without hurting him - or didn’t care whether he hurt him . Even so, it was better than what he has now . And it does hurt, y’know ??

So they both share that kind of longing for a home that really wasn’t good for them that they’ve since been kicked from, either via some nebulous argument or a whole fucking execution .

They just have a lot of similarities . Hell, even down to them both being inventors - which, now that I think about, most of Alastor’s rivals are…that’s definitely a theme I’ll ruminate on later- and I also think these similarities mean they’re uniquely able to help eachother out, among other things .

Those other things being the fact that Lucifer has a position of power above Vox, which you may think would be a problem but in actuality I think it might be a source of comfort for him . Alastor hates being outclassed, surrounds himself with those lower than him, who depend on him, who seem to be very happy to throw away quite a lot for his sake, (I’m sure Rosie is very capable and knew exactly what she doing, as well as having motivation outside of him but the point still stands that most of the people we know him to be fond of either pose no threat or directly serve some kind of purpose for him), so it, in my opinion, only makes sense that his foil, who’s shown to only be chill with people who are on an equal playing field and give him some sort of challenge would find himself drawn to it .

In Lucifer’s case, I think he’s someone who… isn’t exactly comfortable in his own agency ? I mean man literally resents the existence of free will because a single choice he made led to every bad thing that’s ever happened to humans . That’s why he needs someone to take that first step for him, and take charge, and there is nothing that Vox is better at doing, not to mention he’s very good at reading people, so he’d probably know what Lucifer is thunking about .

wow so I have like 3 analysis in progress that touch on this topic but I really need to just talk about it rn with its own spotlight.

Aziraphale has this entire life that he's built for himself on earth, after armageddon he's thriving. When we catch up with him in Season 2 his first scene is literally him going to check in with one of his tenants, and throughout the season we see that he has a decent relationship with nearly Everyone on the block. He has an entire life for himself all hashed out and pretty.

Crowley... does not. His cold open in Season 2 is back in St. James park, checking in with Shax, finding out the gossip on Hell. He doesn't have his apartment, he only has his Bentley and the few plants he could fit in it. He doesn't have any other human friendships. His entire life and everything he loves to do is built entirely around Aziraphale.

This is something that I just find so fucking thrilling because when it comes to their characters and where exactly they are in their arcs right now, it's essentially like looking into a mirror.

Aziraphale knows exactly who he is when he's on his own. He nurtures his own relationships with humans he sees often, he's a nice landlord, he loves books and classical music, and hot cocoa. But, Aziraphale still holds onto the ideals of heaven. He still cares about doing good and being forgiving. He still cowers and jumps at the opportunity to help heaven, not because he wants to but because he's supposed to because he's still an angel.

Crowley has nothing. He has his car, which he drives to a secluded location to park every night, only to drive it right back in the morning. He's only even vaguely recognizable because people associate him with Aziraphale and this is fine for him, he could care less. He doesn't really need to know who he is or process his traumas, why would he when he can put all his attention and focus and love and care directly into Aziraphale? His friend, who has always been his friend, the one person who has always stood by him. Who cares about heaven and hell, he has Aziraphale.

When we finally see them on their own and without the influences of their head offices, we see the opposite of what we'd expect, and nearly the opposite of the outcome we see in episode 6. Crowley is the one constantly checking in with Hell (wether he likes it or not), and Aziraphale is the one who's living care free without even thinking about heaven. When he does something good that he wants to report, he just calls Crowley.

this whole dance of Crowley not knowing who he is without Aziraphale and Aziraphale knowing who he is fundamentally but not knowing how to break free from the confines of Heaven that stop him from truly embracing Crowley in the end, it's just so delicious.

Soooo... guess who got really nostolgic while having a cold and binge-watched all of Sanders Sides again after almost a year?

For the last few days I have been sucked down a rabbit-hole of Fandercontent, and let me just say... while this fandom is so creative, there are just a few things I wish people utilized more in fics, you know?

(Disclaimer, I live on angst and the Dark Sides are my three favourite characters, so most of these are about both of those subjects. Also not a huge fan of non-mindscape au's, so these are all about canon-adjacent fanfiction. My only AU is Sympathetic Dark Sides where they all coexist. Yes, even Remus.)

First and foremost, and this is what inspired this post until I found more things after, why do I see so few fics that include Virgil's Dark Side Voice™? It happens whenever he get's too stressed in canon, and from how he reacts whenever it happens, it seems to be a bit of an insecurity for him. Why aren't angst authors jumping on that?

Guys. We... we all saw the end-card of Flirt or Flight, right? How come so few do anything regarding Virgil's colour-changing eyeshadow? It's adorable, it's gorgeous, talk about it, please!

When Janus takes off the gloves in order to show himself to be truthful about his name... why??? He did that for a reason. If it was just about the typical "Cross my heart" pose, there was nothing stopping him from leaving on the gloves unless their was a reason to take them off! Theorize, go nuts! (I personally believe that his scales fluctuate in their coverage of his skin, and his hands being completely human shows that he's being honest. He wears gloves to make his lies less obvious.)

And on the subject of Janus' lies, has anybody else realized that for the embodiment of Thomas' Deceitfulness... he's actually kind of a terrible liar? While disguised as other sides, he always drops some pretty obvious hints that he's not the real Patton or Logan. And whenever he does his whole "speaking in lies" thing, he has this tone about him that makes it clear to... almost everyone, (Cough cough except Roman apparently), that he's lying, or atleast just being sarcastic?

In the Five Year Anniversary special, Virgil, Remus, and Janus refer to themselves as the Cousin, Uncle, and Aunt respectively. And I know that there actually is a fair amount of content about the Dark Sides being a seperate but related family, but I just feel like not many people talk about the low-key confirmation of that as a reality, ya know?

More.👏 Protective.👏 Dark Sides.👏 They've known eachother for so long, no matter how close the whole family is, Virgil, Remus and Janus would naturally know eachother better than any of the others.

If we are to assume that Janus even just unstably co-exists with the Light Sides, (like pre-redemption Virgil), post-Redux, but Remus doesn't... Well, that's the third person that Remus actually has a connection to that just... left him. First Roman, then Virgil, now Janus. (I personally believe that the Orange side will just be an Unsympathetic Dick, so he doesn't count, but that's just me.)

I am a "Former Paranoia Virgil" Truther, as are many others in the fandom. However, something I wish I saw more of is others not catching themselves when calling Virgil paranoid. Even better, the Dark Sides not realising how much thinking of that part of his past affects him, thinking nothing of it and then feeling really guilty.

And that's all the canon-supported stuff, but just... one last thing. Consider the following:

The Orange Side is a relatively new "Relevant" or "Consious" Side, his existance only needed when suddenly there were only two Dark Sides and still three Light Sides

Janus is Patton's foil because he represents an "immoral" side to Thomas, and Remus is Roman's foil as a flip-side to one, single concept. Virgil used to be Logan's foil before his redemption, because senseless overthinking and paranoia defies logic.

This need for a foil doesn't apply to Virgil, because he is no longer a Dark Side, but he isn't really a Light Side either. A Grey Side, if you will.

Virgil encompasses both the good and bad aspects of Anxiety, and is even capable of representing more of an excitement or sense of anticipation, hence the purple eyeshadow seen in Fight or Flirt. He is his own foil in the same way that Roman and Remus are eachother's. They're the good and bad of creativity, Virgil is the good and bad of anxiety.

I am most likely not the first person to come up with this, but this is just my specific take.

Anyway, I am probably going to go write atleast half of these prompts myself, so if any of these concepts interest you... maybe stick around?

Hey it's 4 AM I'm on my way back from the bar off the shits, and haven't posted in entirely too long, so you hwve to deal with my thoughts unfiltered and unedited. Cope.

A consistent theme across the entirety of Hatoful Boyfriend is that every single atrocity is motivated solely by love. Hitori feels like theost obvious example. Everything he dies wrong is done in misguided effort to grant Nageki's final wishes. It's q last act of love for the family he couldn't save. One last thing he could do for him. Shuu is muvh the same. By far the biggest offender in terms of atrocities, he's also branded everything he does in the name of granting Ryuuji's last wishes. He acts in his name, under a banner of love for him, whether or not it actually lines up with the spirit of his wishes at all. Could go on for hours about that btw, about how Shuu and Hitori's attempts to grieve both involve completely desecrating the memory of the person they are trying to grieve, by hurting other people "for them" when it is ultimately not for them at all, but rather for themselves, hurt wnd lashing out. How they mirror eachother, diametrically opposed yet oddly matching. But anyway. All atrocities are motivated by love within the Hatoful Boyfriend universe. When Ryouta agrees to become the virus's carrier and kill humanity, it's because he sees no use in resisting to protect the world that killed Hiyoko. There's no point when the person he loves most is gone, might as well burn the whole thing to the ground. Yuuya kills out of love for Sakuya, and that's a repeating theme as well. Him giving up everything, his very soul and humanity out of love for Sakuya, which is a bit odd considering yhe degree of separation between them. It's more a devotion to the idea of him, ultimately. And that's what it is for all of them, it's this idea of "This one person is an emblem of all good in the world. Without them, all good is gone." Which grants everyone that miraculous ability to harm others with zero remorse. When I say that love is the ultimate villain of Hatoful Boyfriend this is what I mean by that. We all talk about Hbf at the dating sim without dating, the aro dating sim, but it's true. Any love too intense festers and rots into something dangerous if left unchecked.

Characters in Hatoful can be sorted into two categories, those whose love redeems, and those whose love destroys. When Hiyoko takes a fondness to someone, it saves them. Nageki's love of the world saved it. Ryuuji's love for Shuu gave him what scrap of salvation he's ever had. As opposed to everyone else in the cast. Shuu's own love for Ryuuji caused almost everything that has ever gone wrong in these games. Hitori's love of Nageki caused the other half (exaggerating for dramatic effect, he has done no wrong, actually)) Ryouta's love for Hiyoko made a lot of the trouble in BBL possible. Sakuya's love of his father has ruined his life up until now, and Yuuya's love of Sakuya ruined his. Anghel Maybe gets out of it because he loves everyone to a certain degree, and Okosan is Okosan, but outside of those two this dichotomy holds completely and utterly true. There are three characters who play foil to one another, Hiyoko, Ryuuji, and Nageki, rotating who is paralleling who from scene to scene, and then everyone else, orbiting them and obsessing over them, their love for them destroying themselves and everyone else around them. Love is ultimately the villain, but that's only true under specific circumstances. It's so fuckin interesting!!! I don't know what differentiates the lovers from the loved, but it's a consistent theme and it's leaves me going

okay so like, this might be lowkey controversial but, for the time being i’m not mad with The Letter For The King. Do i think certain things could have been handled better? Absolutely. But it’s definitely set up for another season at least. Tiuri’s mom hasn’t been seen since like, ep 2 or 3, The Queen had the black eyes that they haven’t explored yet, Lavinia hasn’t found the road, and Iona and Jaro’s strange acquantanceship is just starting.

I’m definitely upset about the death but I want to see what the show writers do with it. If it’s kept through the story and used as a source of inspiration/determination and not completely forgotten about then its one thing but if it is completely forgotten then it begs the question of why the character was introduced in the first place if they were only going to die.

I know a lot of people are upset that Tiuri was teased as the hero but it turned out to be Lavinia who had magic and I just have to say that Tiuri is definitely the protagonist in this story. It is completely centered around him. Not only does he tick most of the ‘hero’ boxes from Campbell’s The Hero’s Journey, he’s also the one we establish the emotional connection with first. I think that’s a part of why a lot of people are upset about the magic thing. He was designated ‘special dude’ in the first few episodes and then everyone finds out that there’s nothing supernatural about him. But what I think a lot of people are forgetting is that the thing that makes Tiuri the hero/protagonist in TLFTK is that he chose to be. He made the choice to help the old man at the chapel door. He’s also a kid. They all are. And save for Lavinia, they likely haven’t had much agency in a lot of their choices because they’re kids. They’re only just starting to be baby adults. So Tiuri chose to go help and that lead to him travelling across the continent.

Another part is the race thing. I’m not going to comment on this too much, not because I don’t think it’s there, I think it is to an extant, but more because I don’t want to make any rash judgments on the writers who had six episodes to tell a story that could very easily have been cut back from ten which is the usual netflix original s1 episode count. They also address that Tiuri does endure certain racist attitudes from other characters through the series. This in mind i’m really hoping that there is some nuance going into the writing that we’ll be able to see in future seasons.

Tiuri also has a questionable Lineage. His home was a victim of genocide and his and his Mother are, for all that we know, some of the few who are left. He doesn’t know who his biological father was. It was teased that his father was a Shaman and while I want to believe that, the information was given when we still thought that he had magic. It’s also shown that Shaman is used as a gender neutral term and I’ll get to that later. His mother tells him not to worry about who his father was and it could be that she was trying to get him to accept Sir Tiuri as his father and that it really doesn’t matter, or it could be that she said it for complicated plot reasons.

Speaking of parents, we have Lavinia. Lavinia’s character is interesting. She was introduced as a self-serving and very ambitious noble/princess who wants to help her people in a sustainable way. Her father is shown to see a quick fix and try to take it. Lavinia wants to find the road that ran from two kingdoms directly through her town(?). She’s done the research and the math and the planning. She just needs to go do it. That’s her goal. Then we’re introduced to the idea of her mother. We know almost nothing about her mother other than she’s gone. There’s mysterious circumstances there that have yet to be explored but they’re set up to be major plot points in the future. Also, just a side note about the magic, we only know of three cultures in TLFTK when there could easily be hundreds of cultures around the world. For there to only be one with magic would be bad world building and just on the detail we’re getting for future season set ups I want to say that the world building wouldn’t be that bad but I could be wrong.

I mentioned the gender neutral term used for Shaman and it being used to describe a magic user. For the time being, and until we get more info on the world building and term usage for the Netflix series because it apparently does differ wildly from the source material, I’m inclined to believe that Lavinia is a Shaman. So was(is?) Prince Veridian. Lavinia’s mother could have been the Shaman being talked about when Prince Veridian was interrogating the Shaman in the village. Now I’m not trying to say that Lavinia could be a woc in this world, I’m just saying that we don’t really know a whole lot about the magic being used and it’s cultural significance throughout the world, and that what we do know is incredibly limited.

Now, names are important for characters not only to distinguish them to readers but the also tell something about the characters. The name Lavinia also belonged to the wife of Aeneus who in Roman mythology was a survivor of Troy and son of Aphrodite and is an ancestor to Romulus and Remus, founders of Rome. One part of her story that her hair catches fire as an omen promising good things for her people and bad things for the latins. This is similar to how Lavinia in TLFTK almost looks to be on fire as ‘the light’ in the battle scene in e6. This is so interesting just from a meta standpoint so I wanted to point it out. I haven’t read the book or the sequel so I don’t know anything about the source material but from a writing perspective that’s a hell of a derivitave. Side note, Tiuri could possibly be derived from Turi meaning ‘of Thor’ or Tiri meaning ‘swift one’ from persian mythology or ‘outsider’ in ijaw, and these are theoretical, it could just be a name. The meanings do come from behindthename and babynames so the meanings could be entirely wrong.

Now Iona. I lover her character and I can’t wait to see more of her. She’s competent, knows what she does and doesn’t know, she can work in a group or independently, takes charge, and can kick ass. She’s also a kid, which is super important. We don’t know much about her history other than her parents are dead and that she’s likely lived a pretty rough life to be somewhat proficient in thievery, survival skills, sleight of hand, and ‘bar speak’ for lack of a better term. Past this we don’t really know much about her, or the rest of the characters for that matter. We have six plot based episodes and that’s it, so from here it’s gonna be less character analysis and more general analysis.

I think that she’s being set up as a foil to Tiuri. A foil is one character who contrasts another. They’re not necessarily opposites. One of the reasons I think this is so is because of how competent Iona is and how incompetent Tiuri is. She goes off with an adult who now(?) has no real ties to anyone, but he’s following her. (This would seem creepy but I see it more as an exasperated adult accidentally adopted an ambitious kid and now feels obligated to make sure they don’t get themselves killed.) Tiuri ends the series belonging to the knighthood. Speaking of the knighthood, this was the one thing that Iona was sure she would get and Tiuri was sure he wouldn’t. She had the confidence and skill to match and Tiuri was just kind of. There.

Now, we know so little of the characters mentioned above and even less of Foldo, Guissipo, and Piak, but they are intrinsically connected to eachother.

Its implied that they grew up together. Piak knows that Foldo tells good stories. So the three of them know each other and that makes the little romance between Foldo and Guissipo a bit more believable once that is realized. Like I said earlier, I really want to know what the show writers deal with Guissipo’s death and how it affects Foldo and Piak. I don’t really expect it to hit Tiuri or Lavinia so hard, maybe Iona if she knows, but it should definitely hit Foldo and Piak. I really hope that in the future, it’s addressed how they both grieve individually and together.

I think the only other character that I really wanna talk about is Queen Alianor. She has Tiuri’s mother and had black eyes, but she also knighted all of the boys. i really want to see what they do with that only because I don’t know what could happen.

Anyway this was more of a ‘okay people are mad about a lot of things and while I know and can agree with why, we don’t really have a lot of information as to what is planned especially with only 6 episodes adding up to less than 300 minutes and a story that could have been so much longer.’ I know that it has issues and that the show has hit certain pitfalls. I know. But I want to hope that there was a reason behind what they’ve done and with more time we’ll get to see those reasons.

Rockman.EXE Episode 47 Review.

Told you these guys would be back. -__-

Let the Wacky Races parody begin!

We start the episode with car related shots, something that looks like a photo shooting with Aki-chan, more car related close ups and a scene of Iceman being taken away from Aki by Glyde.

A race is taking place today! Shots of the drivers getting their cars ready along with Rush getting chained to one of the cars for some reason, and Rockman putting on the goggles we saw earlier along with his battle mask.

He looks cute with goggles. :3

We see the different “cars” at the starting line as the race begins!

Yes, that is in fact Magicman’s arm shoveling coal into a train engine.

Its is reveal to be a Net Mobile Grand Prix hosted by Yaito since the commentator is one of her maids. Just then, a newcomer drives in at the last second.

Blues joins the brawl! I mean race.

After the title card, Yaito’s maid tells us the name of each car and their respective drivers.

Rockman is driving the only real race car, Gutsman is racing in a tank, Roll’s car looks sentient and Glide is wearing gloves over his gloves.

Mania-Obsessive, the Ex-WWW Navis are driving a train, Net agents are driving a manly submarine and Yaito’s maid just straight up insults Blues. Talk about an objective commentator.

This is basically Mario Karts, so we all know they’re gonna attack eachother, be realistic woman!

The winner, aside from the title, will also receive a kiss from the CGI race queen.

“I love you, you love me, we all love weird looking CGI~”

I can only imagine those are the lyrics of a new cheezy song of hers.

This is something I didn’t like from the dub, we all know that Roll has a crush on Rockman, but it is not okay to make her jealous of other girls? The dub change the dialogue to Roll complaining about Rush not being in the car with her, as if she didn’t know that she has him strapped to the car’s front. It’s actually cute how Roll wants to win the race to avoid having Aki kiss him.

But Rockman couldn’t care less about the kiss because all he wants is to win no matter the battle, as he then gives us a flashback from a few days earlier at the Maha Ichiban where Yaito is telling everyone (including Higure for some reason) about the race.

I love that little gag with Netto, eating curry is always a priority for him. Also, why is one of Hello Kitty’s friends on the wall? Or... maybe its just a pig.

Yaito then shows them a new line of Navi cars with Numberman as the model.

The idea behind these cars is that Navis will be able to drive cars through the internet, which is pretty stupid considering that there are no highways in Internet city and Navis can easily travel fast plug-in style. But we all know that the real reason is to make Blues look cool in a future episode and have a Wacky Races parody.

In order to advertize the cars, Yaito wants to hold a race and asks Netto and the others to take part, they accept, but the Ex-WWW overhears them and ask to join as well for the publicity for their restaurant. And for some reason Commander Beef and the rest of the Net Agents arrive and decide to enter as well to foil WWW’s idea. And Yaito being so selfish doesn’t give a crap about the WWW’s intention like she did in the last episode and just accepts everyone.

But it DOES bother you when Enzan joins the race at the last second, you self centered big headed hypocrite! You are tied in with Rush for the second spot on my list of most hated characters from this season! (You should all know who number one is).

In the cyberworld, Glyde asks Iceman to be his co-pilot and Roll invites Rush along before noticing something wrong with him. Turns out the Cutman brothers are back and they made a paper cut out of a flea to spy on Rockman’s group. They plan to take out Rockman during the race because they still think he’s evil and now they seem to have a crush on Roll all of a sudden.

Makes sense that Glyde asks to team up with Iceman, because I don’t believe there is a car small enough for him.

The flashback ends, making me wonder if the Cutmen scene was part of Rockman’s memory, and we return to the race. We also see the thoughts of the Net Agents taking part as well.

Funny you ask that, Miyuki, because we then cut to Madoi wondering why the WWW is driving a train. Mahajarama just happens to have a thing for trains.

We cut to Rockman who just now finds out that Blues is in the race, I mean come on, Netto didn’t tell him?

Gutsman manages to pass Rockman... On a tank! How?

Gutsman gets in front of Numberman and decides to bend the rules by attacking the car, sending it flying and forcing Numberman to log out after it blows up leaving an emoji face Higure-san.

The cars enter a tunnel where Iceman decides to freeze the road causing Gutsman to drift out of control.

However, Roll-chan is too close, but she avoids crashing into Gutsman by quickly drifting along with him. Worried about Roll’s safety, Gutsman decides to destroy his own car forcing him to log-out.

Here is another line changed in the dub. It’s a fact in both versions that Gutsman has a crush on Roll and he even sacrificed himself in episode 24 to protect her. Here, the dub had him saying that he was getting dizzy and he destroys his own car because he couldn’t take it anymore. I guess the dub wanted Roll to be portrayed more as an equal than having a man sacrificing himself for her for no real reason.

After this we see the Cutman brothers waiting outside of the tunnel where they make a giant paper cut out of a canon. Netto cheers for Rockman, but just then the WWW train pushes his car off balance making him slide out of control before cutting to commercials.

We come back from commercials with Netto saving Rockman by changing his tires, with a little warning about using those tires in public roads that was skipped in the dub. Rockman regains control by driving on the walls of the tunnel and the race continues with Higure-san as a new commentator.

The insult of the day is “pain in the ass” because this is the third time we hear that in this episode. Or the sub was too lazy to think of another insult.

The cars exit the tunnel where the Cutmen are waiting for Rockman with the canon, but for some reason they just stand there. I guess the cars are so fast that they didn’t get the chance to shoot?

The line in the dub was just as pathetic. ¬ -¬

The next obstacle is a draw bridge opening, Rockman and Blues manage to jump to the other side without problems, Roll-chan has some kind of air bag under her car that allows her to bounce to the other side, but the manly submarine can only do what it does best, dive.

So the Net agents are out and now its time for the WWW to upgrade their train from a steam powered locomotive to an electrical train thanks to the Count and Elecman.

I like how Coloredman and Heatman are waving their hands in the air like they don’t even care. XD

Time for the Cutmen’s third attemp to destroy Rockman, by planting something on his car using a manhole they created out of paper. It looks like they forgot cut some stairs because Cutman Jiro (Eyebrows) is using the rest of the Cutmen to give him leverage. The fat cutman at the bottom gets a supper boost of strenght causing Jiro to get run over by Rockman’s car. They ask about what happened to the paper cut out, which turns out to be a time bomb, and they assume that it successfuly stuck to Rockman’s car making them feel victorious and making up a new excuse for last time about Roll-chan being in danger too. What’s this sudden crush for Roll?!

“It was at this moment that Cutman Jiro realized... He f*!ked up.”

We return to the race with the WWW Navis in first place and attacking the other cars, they eventually take out the Battle Bus much for Yaito’s maid’s dismay.

Boo-hoo, maybe now you  can concentrate in being an objective commentator.

The WWW feels confident, but Enzan, Netto and Meiru power up their Navi’s vehicles giving them a boost of speed to pass the WWW train.

As the WWW Navis are shocked by Rockman and the others passing them, the Otoko-Maru raises from the water and returns to the race just to get in the way of the Wakahage taking both teams out.

This was just a hilarious accident, but the dub made it look like the Navis themselves did it on purpose to get the WWW out of the race. That would actually make sense, Sharkman, Woodman and Skullman sacrificing themselves for their main objective fits with their characters, after all we don’t see their reactions inside the submarine. They like “Screw this race, we are taking the WWW with us!” ;)

Cue the final lap music of Mario Karts, or in this case, Rockman’s victory music since we have reach the third and final lap of the race with Rockman, Blues and Roll-chan racing eachother.

We see the Cutmen waiting at the finish line as Rockman and Blues focus on eachother and both of them try to make a move in a corner, but they seem to forget that Roll is behind them because they open up a gap for her to move on to first place.

And the seventh panel was ruined by a layering mistake. ¬ . ¬

Roll is now in the lead, but Rockman and Blues are not happy with this so it’s time for their Netops to send in their last accessory chips to transform their vehicles, with Meiru doing the same to keep her advantage over them.

Roll’s corny car just became a freaking rocket plane with wheels!

As Rock and Blues try to catch up with her, we check back with the Cutman brothers who discover a tiny problem with their plan of blowing up Rockman.

That little Cutman is an idiot. Turns out the bomb was stuck to Jiro’s back all along, probably after he got ran over by Rockman’s car, the rest of the Cutman panic trying to take it off with no avail.

The three Navis are almost at the finish line, Roll is holding her ground, until one of her tires suddenly blows up for whatever reason causing her to spin out of control, Rockman and Blues take advantage of this to pass her. 

Roll’s car finally crashes and blows up sending Rush flying and forcig Roll to log out leaving behind a tear.

Yeap, that is a tear drop breaking. The dub kept this in because I remember wondering what that was. I inicially thought it was like a sweat drop, but after watching the original version, I realized that was a tear because Roll was heartbroken knowing that she failed to stop Rockman from winning and getting kissed by Aki-chan. AWWWWW.

So now it’s down to Rockman and Blues! Who will become the champion?

Hmmm... Considering that motorcycles don’t normally take part in car races, this is gonna be a tough call.

Anyway, the race is over and I want my fireworks!

Woo hoo! Let’s celebrate because this is the last time we see the Cutman brothers. (Until the Beast saga, but that’s another story.)

As they are waiting for the results, Blues raises his index finger to the sky making everyone believe that he is declaring himself the winner, but he surrprises them by pointing at Rockman and declaring him the victor.

But this moment of good sportmanship is ruined by the photo finish that shows that the winner of the race.... Is Rush.

I dont know why they cutted out Blues’s reaction in the dub, it was funny. Or do they think Blues is too cool for this?

Yes, Rush is the winner because he crossed the finish line first after Roll’s car blew up, so I guess in a way, Roll got her wish. :3

And the episode ends with everyone booing as Aki-chan kisses an unconscious Rush and Netto breaking the picture with his face.

My thoughts?

Before I forget again, here is a fun fact! Cutman Jiro and the original Cutman were voiced by the same person who voiced Bubbleman in the rest of the anime, Chiyako Shibahara. It was until the Beast saga when the Cutman Brothers and Cutman himself return for an episode where I realized it was the same voice, the only difference being that they don’t say “Puku” all the time.

Wacky Races was an old Hanna-Barbera show from the 80′s that was very popular in a lot of countries, specially in Japan for many animes would include an episode based on the concept. Whether it was a direct parody or just inspired by it, this episode is clearly one of those examples. Sure, it might also be a reference to the Megaman Battle and Chase game that was released in 1997, but that could’ve been inspired by Wacky Races too.

How can I tell if this was directly inspired by the Wacky Races cartoon?

Because Roll-chan’s car is an obvious parody of Penelope Pitstop’s car from the show, with the car wearing mascara an all. And I think there was also a tank in the race.

All and all, this was a very fun episode to watch, it wasn’t ridiculous like the baseball one, this one was written into the story to actually make sense. Remember my criterias for episode 43? The episode introduced something new that fits in with the anime’s universe, and Blues’s bike will make a comeback in a future episode.

first of all i have no idea whether its a musical or not but because i just have more experience with musicals . its a musical now !!!!

second i fucking love ensemble numbers . its not a good show without 4 or 5 absolute bangers that the entire cast is belting can i get an AMEN !!!! also for the dsmp this works especially well because ALL the characters are important and become more relevant . so im thinking early l'manburg era eret has a bunch of lines that are kinda shady and have double meaning, fundy is the little little kid whos being forced to grow up and doesnt want to be treated as small as he is . tubbo and tommy sing almost exclusively duets . JM and niki join later on . i also thing the dteam should be given a dramatic villan song just for sillies because those are also Such good songs

even from the start tommy and dream should be very obviously foils for eachother even in terms of color and positioning on stage theyre always on opposite sides ! ALSO everything should kind of move Around dream . he shouldnt really be the one getting out of peoples ways . i think that would be a fun detail

im imagining tommy and tubbo singing a song to cat or mellohi . with some sort of riff that gets repeated with words or meaning changed as the show progresses fuckkk yeahhhhh

(also as a sidenote from someone whos worked backstage . im imagining how many copies of the disc props would end up being made over the run of the show because things Break . which is hilarious because ofc the discs are supposed to be unique . lmfao i love theatre)

technoblade being able to directly talk to the audience or break the fourth wall and reference them would be such an interesting thing to have play out ! because every audience is different !!! giving techno a moment where hes in turmoil or something and he turns to the audience and theyre all chanting blood at him . YEAHHHH THERES SO MANY PLACES YOU COULD TAKE THAT . honestly it would give actors playing technoblade a Lot of range . you could play him as horrified by his own actions and what the voices are forcing him to do . or vindicative and enjoying it . or indifferent . or aspects of all three i just think techno would be a super interesting character to try and see someone embody on stage

RANBOO WOULD HAVE ONE OF THOSE SONGS WHERE THE SINGER IS CUTTING THEMSELVES OFF ALL THE TIME (an example would be . sort of like "watch what happens" from newsies or "pathetic" from matilda .) AND TRYING TO CONVINCE THEMSELVES OF SOMETHING . ranboos known for rambles . it works so well . ALSO having ranboo constantly turning from one side to another to highlight his inner conflict because . literally two sides . like <33333

anyways im a lighting bitch at heart so i wanna say that theres a massive emphasis on color and mood lighting !!! like dream comes on for the first couple times and the lights are all green but very light green ! with regular lighting mixed in ! but as time goes on and dream becomes the main antagonist the normal lighting starts to be faded out until its Only green lighting and its super overpowering and WEIRD !!!!!! i just . progression of story via tech cues <3

also during exile dream should Always be in a spotloght . even if hes not supposed to be the main focus of the scene . even if tommy is monologuing . it should always be very clear to the audience that dream is there just Watching . im so incredibly normal

i also think that in the button room wilbur should have a "time stops/slows down" moment like when burr shoots hamilton . which is both a silly little teehee reference and also just . thematically very cool . wilbur should get to have one last little desperate speech i think <3

The First Time✨

7:35pm on the beltway. . In a race against time because I have not seen you in 12 years and I only have less than 12 hours to spend in your arms. Switching lanes as quick as 70mph will allow me to. Going through the EZ tag although I’ve never even owned one.... but stopping any extra 2 minutes to pay $1.75 was just too long of a wait for me.
