genuinely truly wholeheartedly cannot fathom people who go running before work. what do you mean you don’t get out of bed 10-15 minutes before you need to be fully dressed, breakfasted, equipped, and out the door? why would you voluntarily wake up SEVERAL hours early and go get sweaty in the dark and cold and then have a shower in the MORNING only to go to work all day?? incomprehensible.
#context: my housemate and I went for a run/walk this evening and we remarked on how nice it was and how we should do it more often#but realistically the only way we'd be able to do it during the weekdays is before work#which like. lmao.#I'm sorry but your insomnia and my insomnia do not line up enough for this#the only person who comes to mind that I actually know does this is my high school ap chem teacher#but she also got her phd at 25 so she doesn't count#I do like running in the mornings the few times I've done it!#but the only way we'd be able to get it done before work here is well before sunrise#which I am intrinsically opposed to#and also if I have work right after I can't just come back home and go back to sleep or slouch on the couch for 3 hours straight#I was going to say something but there was this HUGE gust of wind and rain and other noises lashing my window and I forgot what it was#anyways in summary I still don't want to go to work tomorrow#and I'm rrrreeeaaaaallllyyyy hoping that the ‘don't want to be here’ energy of Friday carries over to today#phenomenal job on Friday 6 out of 8 of my co-worker's people didn't show up#I yearn for that sort of attendance#please. please give me nothing to do. let me catch up on my other stuff. you do not need to come in for this. this can be an email.#(to be fair I would also hate it if it were an email sdkjfhskfjh)#(...yeah actually maybe don't make it an email)#(but please please PLEASE no more backstories tragic or otherwise)#(please let it just be simple and straightforward enough to finish all my notes as they come)#(I still have to do Friday's because I slept like all of Saturday and half of today)#ah shoot and I still need to study...#you know what. Do you have any thoughts about the opposite of the "Im afraid to confess because our friendship could get ruined"? As in, "I'm afraid to reject you because I don't want to lose this friendship so I accept your confession even though I don't feel that way for you and never will".
Like the protagonist tries to convince themselves that this is just like being friends only that we now kiss (and more). I feel like it would fit with a yandere that is a bit delusional or desperate, eveb insecure so whenever the protagonist doesnt seem as into this relationship as them, they just try to convince themselves otherwise, or love bomb the protagonist.
Idk lately Ive been into reversing the tropes and I found this one particularly interesting to me when it comes to a yandere. In HSR i was thinking of Argenti as he seems like the delusional type. Or even Aventurine who would have had to put down a lot of walls to be friends with you and then even more walls just to confess, so rejecting him doesnt seem like an option to the protag (out of pity and care).
THIS THIS THIS!!!! qnon ur brain is so wrinkly and soggy with brain juice..... this used to be my favorite trope at some point idk why i forgot about it i remember eating up any fanfics out there based on this
Tw: yandere (obv), manipulation, intimacy (mainly romantic, only hints of sexual), emotional blackmailing, whatever yadda yadda
But anyways, under the cut!
Okay, so, I imagine this is possible with literally... almost all of hsr's cast. Mainly because most of them have such tragic backstories, and most of them out of that have a really shrewd and cunning mind, so they'll exploit this to hell and back.
I also imagine this is with a people pleasing reader, so lets go with a bit of implication of that.
Anyways, since Aventurine and Argenti are the ones mentioned specifically, I'll probably dive in on them first.
Aventurine is so hard to not feel pity for. Every stolen glance at the marking on his neck makes you feel worse and worse for "rejecting him", knowing he's been throwing signs of wanting more than a friendship quite possibly everywhere and you're most likely ignoring them in hopes of keeping your friendship. It's not like he hasn't quite caught on, either. He knows people's hearts quite well. And where there's opportunity, he seizes it.
It's a bit frustrating for him – just why can't you see he wants more? Or rather, just why aren't you accepting him? You're the first thing on his mind when he wakes up, when he clutches his chip and bets on his life, the last thing on his mind when he goes to sleep. Hell, he's even tried to dream of you, forcefully. But then he realizes.. how easy you are to just push around. He goes ahead with the confession, and it's almost a sadistic kind of pleasure when he sees you even try and stutter out any kind of a rejection when he's leaning in a perfect angle that shows off his little marking (out of all the times he curses it, it seems like this time it's worked in his favor). He watches carefully as your eyes nervously flit to his neck and you shut up immediately for a second, before accepting. And when you do.. he's over the moon! Coddles you, kisses your cheeks, becomes so much more grabby, as his keen eyes watch your discomfort. Well.. you didn't reject him, so this is what you should expect.
Again, the frustration doesn't wear off easily, but just seeing you writhe and try to create distance while he suffocates you in affection far from platonic nature, is so sadistically pleasuring to him. He loves watching you in that state, bending to his will so easily, as he waits for you to snap. But he'll probably find it easier to squeeze water out of a rock than to squeeze a rejection out of you – which is precisely what he exploits. You're not going anywhere, are you? He puts on his best, pleading little eyes that he used to have to put on, shaking, trembling voice, desperate hands that cling to you; all the things he acts out like his life depends on it when he senses even a waver of your hesitation.
Oh, fine.. he hates seeing you so queasy almost all the time, so he'll give you a reprieve from time to time. Plans and schedules things you used to do "back when you were friends" (he emphasizes this – you don't think you can just ignore everything, right?), and makes sure to at least crack a few smiles and giggles from you. Of course.. his hand is still loosely hanging around your waist, pecks you on the lips from time to time, just as a small reminder of what you guys really are now.
Argenti on the other hand, has no awareness of your discomfort at all.
He's like a huge dog, the way he's so happy about you accepting his confession and doesn't even stop to think afterwards just why you were so hesitant during it.
Constantly praises you, and it's not soon before it gets to a more intimate nature. He wants to do all the romantic things – kissing under the rain, protecting you from something, twirling you in the air and then kissing you again after putting you down, telling everyone proudly that you two are a couple, buying more and more "romantic" gifts that turn more intimate sooner or later. You have no way out of this without completely ruining everything.
It's.. almost painful the way he doesn't realise. At some point your discomfort probably gets so.. obvious, but he just shrugs it off; perhaps he hasn't been paying you enough attention? Or you're just too shy to ask something of him? Oh, how sweet! How adorable! He thinks. He simply falls deeper and deeper into this delusion, stringing you along and stretching your patience thin. Unfortunately, unlike Aventurine, you can't find most, if any bits of the things you both used to do as platonic companions in the relationship you have with Argenti. He's just a full-blown romantic who wants to do only that. It makes you even more queasy when people look at you in pity, if they realize just what happened between you two.
You can't back out, even if you tried. If you somehow manage to find a way to squeeze out a rejection, or have any kind of a reservation about things getting more intimate/romantic stuff, he's so devastated. Did he do something wrong? Perhaps he's not as experienced as you wanted him to be? Or you're not satisfied with some of the things he's said? Don't fret, he's right on it! Constantly holding you so close you're afraid your bones will break, whispering incessant praises into your ear that slowly spiral into affirmations that you belong to him, spoiled rotten with everything you want; yet, even then.. you can't shake off the intention they were given in. Not when you're suffocated by it.

Dear Mouthwashing fandom, explain to me, why next to the incredible fan art, I find a fuck ton of shipping content, especially between characters where this is highly problematic? SPOILERS FOR MOUTHWASHING AHEAD CN for talk about sexual abuse, death, suicide & violence
DISCLAIMER: I do not shame the general practice of shipping at all. I am a shipper myself and I think it makes up for a lot of interesting dynamics and narratives outside the canon. Shipping is an important pillar of fandom communities and I am unable to forbid you to do it. HOWEVER, in the case of Mouthwashing I want to talk about what, in my opinion, feels tone-deaf to the themes and the canon of the game. But let me start with a short summary of the game before I get into it.
Mouthwashing is basically a visual novel that takes place on the Tulpar, the last manned cargo ship of the company Pony Express. The crew, consisting of Caption Curly, Co-Captain Jimmy, Nurse Anya, Mechanic Swansea and his intern Daisuke, is confronted with a crash against an asteroid and the consequences following it. The story is told out of order to reveal the truth bit by bit. What caused the crash, what happened and how the crew deals with the time afterward being stuck on the ship. Revealing sexual abuse, tragic backstories, the horrible side effects of late state capitalism and the neglect of people in command towards the people they are responsible for.
To boil it down we have two men who, out of societal misogyny, hurt the only woman on their crew by assaulting her or not acting as they should have in their position of responsibility. All of this would not have happened if Jimmy didn't rape Anya and impregnate her, and if Curly had disciplined Jimmy in a capacity possible on the ship and in Jimmy's position as co-pilot. To be honest, with the amount of automatization the ship has, I don't think they need Jimmy if it is not a case of emergency, but I digress. Jimmy is the perpetrator of the story, but Curly is an accomplice in putting his aim of finding a solution and compromise over punishing his subordinate as he should have.
And now to my actual point: I am a big fan of the game, the narration style and the utter tragedy of 5 people losing their lives in the isolation of space, with their company not giving a shit about them. Otherwise, they might have been rescued much earlier or at all. Or had enough cryo pots in the first place. Or a nurse with experience. Or any amount of better equipment and not the most cheap shit that somehow made it through a resemblance of regulations. There are probably no regulations.
Being a fan I, of course, looked into the hashtags on several social media sites, and between the incredible art and analysis of the game, I quickly found shipping content, and I have no idea why. I have literally no idea how that narrative speaks to you in a way of shipping characters romantically/sexually. Especially three shippings really rub me the wrong way.
ANYA/JIMMY
Are you fucking kidding me? Literally, what is wrong with you shipping a victim with their abuser? There was not one interaction between them, that suggest that there was consent or affection, that Jimmy has any sympathy for Anya. He knows what is going on, he knows that Anya is pregnant and takes no responsibility. Even worse, his idea of FIXING this was to kill everyone, at least himself, to avoid responsibility! Same goes for AUs where she kept the baby and is somehow okay and happy? I get the urge to fix it, but that is not a good fix. There is no good fix if you are pregnant due to rape.
ANYA/CURLY
A lot of argument I hear for that is that "at least Curly is her friend and was nice to her" and if that is your whole foundation of argument, I want to ask what your standards for a relationship are. Please know that you deserve more than the bare minimum. Another question in that context: Is Curly really Anya's friend? His friend was abused and instead of protecting her, he tried to reason and help her abuser! That is not the behavior of a friend! There is no "but Jimmy is his friend too!". If your friend is an abuser and that does not make you stop being their friend....why?
JIMMY/CURLY
It feels like it is a law on the internet, that two men who look at least averagely handsome will be shipped, especially if they have the tiniest of connection to each other. I am not even sure if I would call them friends in the first place. It appears that Jimmy, whatever his bad life before that job was (thanks to the developers for not giving us a backstory), he is still absolutely unsatisfied with that he has. He is jealous of Curly and his position, seeing how quickly he takes on the Captain title after the crash and only realizes far too late how hard the position actually is. Curly on the other hand feels a bit like a people pleaser to me. He probably had pity for Jimmy, took him under his wing to help him? Fix him? Whatever it is, it made him ignore Jimmy's bad side to a fatal degree. I respect the toxic yaoi but are you sure?
TLDR; I am worried about how the practice of shipping developed, from a way to extend the canon, explore queerness in cis/straight dominated media, into a compulsion of where some people can't look at any form of media or constellation of characters without immediately smashing them together like dolls. If you do this, maybe step back for a minute and ask yourself if it is appropriate. On that note, same goes in case you defend Jimmy. Why?

rogier and d twins for ask thing :)
someone asking ME about the d twins and rogier?? as if haha like i talk about them sometimes or something?? ha hahahah
Rogier
favorite thing about them His emotional issues and how they result in this weird kind of duplicity. Yes he's a polite fella, but you're never going to get at much with him besides his academic interests.
least favorite thing about them That he can't die by my blade #sicko
favorite line gotta be the dreambrew line, specifically when offered to him post-blight. I feel like it encapsulates and summarizes him perfectly. Bitter and a bit proud, rejecting attempts at empathy and reading them as insulting instead, but then quickly realizing he's getting a little too 'real'. so he immediately covers it up and reverts back to being polite and gracious.
brOTP Him and Eleonora I think. Their stories just have too much in common for me to not want them to hang out and get shitfaced together.
OTP Rogier/his own demise (or maybe Rogier/Darian, who knows??)
nOTP I dunno if I have one. I don't like Rogier/Devin in romantic terms, but if its vicious hatefucking I'll take it.
random headcanon i'll die before i give up the HC that his family is utterly fucked up and the source of him developing his emotional detachment + his people pleasing ways + the cocktail of misery his set describes him having.
unpopular opinion he's absolutely manipulating the tarnished into helping him. it's often read as him being your genuine friend and growing to trust you, but i feel like everything we know about him would indicate otherwise. he's a good liar, holds others at arms' length, and never talks about himself, only his mission and research. his heaping praise on the PC is less about genuine feelings of kinship and more about him buttering us up to keep us helping him. this is not to say he secretly hates us or something. but he's also not the most emotionally healthy person, and i think it'd take a lot more digging before he'd ever make a deeper connection with someone, certainly more time than the tarnished spends with him. he's not just a 'you have to have this many xp points to unlock my tragic backstory' he's a 'you need those xp points to unlock anything from me that isnt a polite smile and a gracious compliment to keep everything running smoothly'.
song i associate with them
Tongues & Teeth by the Crane Wives Distrust by Aibhe Reddy Wolves of the Revolution by The Arcadian Wild Claude's Girl by Marika Hackman
favorite picture of them
im not here to deny any allegations made against me.
Darian
favorite thing about them That in a land full of liars, cheats, killers, and cutthroats, he's pretty honest and straightforward. When he asks something of us, he does it on our terms, and he doesn't press us.
least favorite thing about them his haters tbh I don't know. this isn't me denying his negative traits like his devotion to the GO blinding him, because I enjoy that about him. I like my favs character flaws, they'd be boring otherwise.
favorite line am i allowed to pick all of them?? his voice is hot. maybe this one where he says "You haven't gone to see Gurranq yet? No rush, you do as you please." It's nice being shown patience lol but also joke about Gurranq starving to death is so corny, and I love him for it.
brOTP Devin feels like the obvious choice, but I'd also like to suggest Juno Hoslow or Nepheli Loux. Juno and Darian feel like that, in spite of their vastly different backgrounds, they'd have something in common being the older brother. He and Nepheli, I've honestly got no canon reason for it other than I like them together. I think they have similar dispositions with their kind of serious and stoic natures, but also a desire for justice(though its debatable whether their senses of justice would mesh completely...depends on Nepheli's perspective on the dead).
OTP Darian/Rogier, no surprises, next
nOTP Hmm hard to say. I guess Darian/Fia is hard to picture, but it doesn't make me feel like I wouldn't read it lol
random headcanon I think that, even after being accepted by the Golden Order, he and Devin are still largely ostracized by other knights and hunters, and mostly still only have each other. He still deeply values the Order for taking them, because it's a far cry from having nothing at all, and now they at least have a purpose and a place.
unpopular opinion the fact that i like him at all is apparently an unpopular opinion lol But really I guess I just don't buy that he's a callous, heartless, empty-headed fascist. I was told the other day that the "whole point" of his character was his fanaticism, and I think this is a pretty big misreading of his story, because there is way more interesting stuff to be said about him and fia specifically than 'he's a fanatic'. That is a piece of who he is, but not the entire point.
song i associate with them Dorian by Agnes Obel Before I Sleep by Marika Hackman
favorite picture of them
probably this pic elden_things took of him.
Devin
favorite thing about them his absolutely unhinged and feral behavior that runs so counter to darian's calmer, stoic demeanor. it's another expression of dualities. they share the same soul, just across two bodies, so there is this weird thing where they are at once distinct entities, but also the same. and i think the contrast in their behavior serves to illustrate that.
least favorite thing about them that we get so very little about him, and nothing of him prior to darian's death. so it is hard to judge much of his character when all we know of him is in this freshly traumatized and disoriented state.
favorite line "Ah, hello. The rotten witch is dead." It just drives me bonkers how you can HEAR the crazed grin in his voice. Very well delivered line.
brOTP It's hard to see Devin befriending much of anyone but Darian, but again, this may be because of how we don't really know what he's like before Darian's death broke him.
OTP Not sure I have one for him.
nOTP Devin/Rogier or Fia/Devin. I think he'd blame the former for Darian's death. And the latter, well lol
random headcanon He resents himself and imagines he's a kind of burden on Darian. Being he is the 'younger', he may have an irrational notion that, had he not existed, and Darian had been born alone, there'd be no curse and Darian could've had a normal life.
unpopular opinion He's not a misogynist and I think it's absurd to make such a claim based off like one minute of character interaction, and fresh off the heels of his brother's murder, no less. I think people try to make it a moral imperative for you to dislike a character rather than it just being a personal preference. Just saying 'I don't like them bc they suck and I hate them' is less a powerful argument than 'he's clearly a misogynist so you should hate him or you're bad and excusing misogyny'. It's ridiculous.
song i associate with them The Friend by Meryem Aboulouafa
favorite picture of them
i liked this action shot i was able to get of him fighting one of the gargoyles.
#WHEW#that took longer than i thought lol#ty for the ask!!#sorcerer rogier#d hunter of the dead#d beholder of death#elden ring#wraith meta

I’m completely obsessed with ur carcar the last of us au. I can’t believe it is only a snippet on tumblr. The way u wrote I feel like I’m seeing a whole movie in my head.
“There’s a strangled bird, caged somewhere to the left of Carlos’ chest. He doesn’t allow that bird any food or warmth or hope, for fear of softness.”
Like Please???? The metaphor.
“The loss carving its way down his cheeks hasn’t fully dried, but he looks hopeful, almost like a lost dog.” Words. That’s my babe!
Also the he swerved the car so that it’s his neck exposed and not Oscar’s because his body is all he has to offer??? There are tears in my eyes I ain’t joking. The way you fit so much details a descriptive flashback even in such short word count genuinely admiring. And the follow up lil snippet too. He decided Oscar is his to protect and he did just that!
Genuinely would love to hear more of this au but no pressure ofc it is perfect this way now too!
Pls you are so so kind huehuehue, I'm so glad you've been enjoying the TLOU AU! The whole swerving the car thing came from a discussion my friend and I had once while driving, and he was like if an oncoming car came up too fast which side would you go? And I was like, right, just by instinct I think, because I'm right-handed. And he was like, WHAT, no, go left, otherwise the car would hit you. I just think the direction he swerves to would be such a conscious decision on Carlos's part, all so he can protect what's important to him.
At first when this au popped up in my head, I genuinely wanted Oscar to be the cure and for Carlos to literally fuck the entire world by keeping him alive, but then it veered too closely to the actual TLOU storyline. Now I just see them surviving. Listening to country music, to Oscar's dismay. Unearthing each other's tragic backstories. Unlocking friendship level 7, then friendship level 10, whatever that is. Sleeping in the same sleeping bag for warmth, probably.
Maybe at some point Carlos really is made to choose between Oscar and a cure. You can guess which one he goes for.

Ranking my favorite to least favorite hashira
I just finished the Swordsmith village arc, Hulu please I want the next one TwT
1 . Muichiro Tokito! This guy is just so fun, and his flashbacks made me cry. I love how there's just a random 14 year old in the group, who happens to insult demons until they die. After he remembered things, Gyokko had zero shot.
2 . Mitsuri Kanroji! I will personally fight anyone who doesn't like her just because the creators decided to sexualize her character. She is powerful, strong, beautiful, and amazing. Probably would be my favorite if Muichiro wasn't so funny to me. She's just the best (You can do better than Iguro girl anyone who says otherwise can die by your blade)
3. Sanemi Shinazugawa! This guy is such a terrible person and I love it. Please blink more. Please accept your little brother. Please keep making fun of Giyu and being a complete ass. He needs to throw hands more, I'd like to see him and Inosuke fist fight.
4. Giyu Tomioka! This guy is great. I like how he seems so cool in front of Tanjiro but in reality he's just a sad wet cat. I hope we get to see him more, probably in the new Hashira training arc. No spoilers please. He just seems so interesting, I wanna know why everyone else in the hashira seem to dislike him so much.
5. Kyojuro Rengoku! This guy was fun. I'm sad he died so quickly, we didn't get to experience a lot of him. I'm very curious, because Akaza was open and "friendly" with him, but in the swordsmith village arc Akaza was guarded and being violent and snappy. It makes Rengoku feel way more special in my eyes.
6. Tengen Uzui! This man is so stupid and I hate him. He's an interesting character, and I like him in theory, just not in practice. The only reason he's higher is because he actually has something I find interesting. I'm very confused on the three wives thing. I think it's extremely funny when people write or draw him simping for Rengoku because I do get bisexual disaster from him.
7. Obanai Iguro! "But I'm a creep... I'm a weirdo..." this guy is creepy and I don't like him. Get him away from Mitsuri. I know his backstory is tragic, but I don't care! Especially since in the demon slayer academy he's portrayed as "allergic to women". He just gives me creepy guy who lives in his moms basement. Discord mod vibes. Weirdo.
8. Shinobu Kocho! Shinobu is another one where there's definitely more to her, but until we figure that out, she just seems rather blank to me. It's definitely on purpose, because she's supposed to have her big reveal when fighting a demon, and we know a little from Kanao she used to have an older sister. I'm just frustrated because it seems like she has nothing else. The most interesting thing about her is the rest of the girls at the Butterfly Mansion.
9. Gyomei Himejima! He's another one where there's more to him, I just haven't seen it. But I don't really like what I do see? Like, he pitied Tanjiro and Nezuko, but was willing to kill them. If he's trying to be portrayed as a sympathetic man, it's not working. Also he just looks like a geodude from Pokémon to me, except with a worse color pallet.
#atlas speaks#mod speaks#demon slayer#please talk to me about them#gyomei himejima#muichiro tokito#sanemi shinazugawa#shinobu kocho#giyuu tomioka#rengoku kyojuro#obanai iguro#mitsuri kanroji#tengen uzui

Burning Gold
Title: Burning Gold. Fandom: Captive Prince. Characters: Auguste of Vere, Laurent of Vere. Rated: M. Words: 9.8K+. Tags: Canon compliant, pre-canon, backstory, protective siblings, character death, blood, war, tragedy (Please see AO3 for full list of tags and warnings). Chapters: 1/1. Summary: He realized he wasn’t going to be able to keep his promise to Laurent anymore. A look at the life of Crown Prince Auguste of Vere, in the months before his tragic end. Excerpt:
The funeral procession was painstakingly long, the air heavy with silence and unspoken grief. Hooves beat dully across the stone road, the wheels of the wagon creaking; the wood was gilded with iron and gold, the décor intricate and refined, managing to retain a sense or opulence while being tapered just enough for its grim purpose. Auguste looked ahead. He rode alongside the wagon, clothed in all black, attire laced up and more austere than what he normally would have chosen for himself. A half cloak covered his shoulder, a golden starburst clasped at the side; any ornamentation was otherwise minimal, the crown prince wearing little else to define his status save for a golden circlet upon his head. In his peripheral, he could only focus on the wagon — and about the coffin that rested upon it, covered with satin of midnight blue and gold.
Read on AO3.

Finally finished Enterprise: The First Adventure and it was fun but unfortunately and likely accidentally, it made Kirk a creep
SPOILERS
Okay so unfortunately there is a massive elephant in the room regarding this book. For, what I can only guess was a ploy to sell other Star Trek books so this could get developed more, they decided to give Janice Rand a tragic backstory. In this tragic backstory, her family was traveling on a ship, and due to a warp drive/core issue, they accidentally time traveled 3 years into the future.
This happened when she was a child, but due to the aftermath and Janice herself hiding the truth so she could support her younger brothers, the records never got corrected. So at the time the book takes place, she is legally 19, but physically 16.
No one knows the truth besides Uhura, but the book ends with Janice promising to tell Jim everything.
Which means if she does tell him, in that first half of s1 of TOS, Jim Kirk is knowing crushing on a teenager.
I guess it should also be noted that Jim is mostly annoyed with Janice more than anything else in this. He doesn’t think he should need an assistant as he’s never had one before but is forced to admit he does and instead of picking one just asks the whoever is in charge of the yeoman’s to send him someone. So they send Rand and she is meek and nervous and oh my god what happened to her? This was not Rand in the tv show. But big picture is it’s never implied he’s attracted to her in this book.
Which would be fine if I didn’t have a tv series that suggested otherwise.
There are a lot of things in this book I think would make for a fun live action episode, but good god do we not need this.
Please.
Get this away from me.
God why is this even here?

I want to know your answers to all the questions in the secondary character ask game but let's start with 3, 5, 7 and 15! <3
Hi friend! thanks for sending me numbers.
3. Favorite platonic friendship
How do I narrow this down? Young Royals goes so hard when it comes to all the platonic friendships.
My answer might be Sara and Felice. I don’t know if I was as surprised by them being a supportive but complex teenage female friendship, because I feel like I encounter a lot of those in the books I read. I also feel like the show shows us their friendship when it’s just at its beginning—they have a lot more places for their friendship to go over time!
Simon-Rosh-Ayub’s trio energy is great too, and I love the complexity we got for August-Nils-Vincent by the end of the series. (If anyone has any recs for them that are friendship-focused, I’ll take them.)
5. Favorite familial relationship
This is another one that’s hard to narrow down, but by the end of season three it might just be Sara and her dad. Their relationship is fraught and complicated but I feel like I learned so much watching them interact.
7. Character you didn’t initially like/love but have now warmed up to
Vincent, maybe. He was just sort of a Mean Background Guy to me at first. As we started to uncover more about his internalized ableism I found him quite compelling, though. Like he’s still mean, but in an interesting way. I also admit I’m All In for characters who struggle with envy, and Vincent’s slowly emerging envy of August is like… art, actually.
I also love the extra bit of trivia about how Vincent may have been a rebellious skater kid in his pre-Hillerska days! More of that, please.
15. Adult character whose teenage backstory would make the best spin-off series
I know I clamor for a young Kristina series here like, ten times a week, so obviously that. I would want young Carl Johan to be a prominent character though, and for the show to focus on their relationship as cousins at 1980s Hillerska.
If we take inspiration from the IRL Swedish royal family, it’s possible that a law was passed around the time Kristina was born that allowed a girl to inherit the throne, so she’d be taking a throne that otherwise would have gone to Carl Johan. And I think that extra lever of tension between them—maybe something that’s unspoken, but always lurking in the background—could be pretty interesting.
That said, a series about Felice’s parents could be interesting, too. I’ve always imagined Felice’s mom as someone who was somewhat bullied within her friend group, so she’s pushing Felice to be popular and glamorous to avoid the fate she ended up in. And knowing what we know about Felice’s dad’s assimilation, I imagine you’d have a tragic series about two young people kind of erasing aspects of their identity to fit in.
Questions are at this link if anyone else wants to play along.

wait okay. instead of going to sleep like a normal person. here's how I'd change the ages in bsd (for those that have a canon age), bc no one looks their age/it makes the timeline feel weird, i wanna let at least some major past events breathe a little between one another. possibly controversial takes ahead:
atsushi: i like that he's 18 actually. he looks and feels 16 but no yeah 18 works better. I'd say 20-21 would be nice but that'd reallyyyy throw his backstory's timing off unfortunately
dazai: 25
kunikida: around 27-28
ranpo: 28 also, maybe even 29 (his whole thing is that he looks young for his age anyway)
yosano: 28 as well
tanizaki: like. he does look 18. but also 16 and 21 at the same time. i like him as a bit older than atsushi so let's say 19-20, and naomi as well while we're at it
kenji: why is he 14. it's not that he doesn't look 14 it's that i simply did not expect a child to be the muscle in a detective agency. so please make him like at least 16 which is only just slightly better tbh
kyouka: yeah 14 is chill in her case imo. makes her more tragic 👍
katai: 27-29ish as well
fukuzawa: at least in his 50s. maybe 55ish, or even more. he def looks like it and it fits more with having a son in his 20s
akutagawa: i do want him to be older. but making his age gap with atsushi bigger is weird. so keeping him as a 20 y/o it is, maybe 21 at most
chuuya: 25
kouyou: 30s. early 40s even. she is already so milf coded. finding out she's 26 in canon was straight up offensive i swear. come on.
higuchi: 21
tachihara: 22 or 23 maybe? (the hunting dogs don't have canon ages but i like jouno and tecchou as 26ish so that way he's still like the baby of the group)
hirotsu: how is that man 50. make him 65 at least. jfc. the whole point is he's been with the mafia a long time. ik they keep recruiting teenagers for some reason but give me a break. my dad is pushing 70 and looks younger than him
q: actually my issue with them isn't that they don't look their age (tho they do look a bit younger ig) but that timeline wise?? they're so weird?? why did the mafia have a 6 y/o on deck that's just inconvenient for all parties involved. like i can excuse kyouka at 11ish but come ON. at least make them 10 in fifteen. or just bring them in later bc i just realized the timeline doesn't line up with the dazai and chuuya changes otherwise. man idk
odasaku: girl that man was NOT 23 when he died he should've been like at least 27 then
mori: late 40s or early 50s. keep the few years gap from fukuzawa maybe but he should still be older
ango: 29ish in the current timeline. or even 32. idk why but that number feels right.
francis: 45 at least. how is a 32 y/o man supposed to have a daughter old enough to study abroad...
poe: 29
melville: actually he is the only one aged correctly in this entire manga. bestie 🔥🔥🔥🔥
steinbeck: 24. maybe even older
lucy: 20-21ish. same issue as akutagawa really
louisa: 25 at least please 🙏
nathaniel: 34 maybe.
margaret: also early 30s. how the fuck is she 20. like kouyou this is straight up insulting 😭
mark: ageless for he is the spirit of youth and joy (yeah 22 is chill for him actually. he's like the taylor swift song. he'd love that)
mushitaro: tbh I'd make him more around 29 or even older than 30. like he would be a believable 35 y/o to me if needed.
nikolai: actually him being 26 is chill too. tho i wouldn't mind making him around 28-29ish too since i already aged up most 26 y/os so may as well go all the way.
shibusawa: yeah he can stay 29 too idm. i actually didn't know he had a canon age until now. cool!
i think that's everyone who has a canon age (excluding lns bc i haven't gotten to them yet)? aside from sigma maybe but his age is more of a plot device than a fun fact. and fukuchi is implied to be the same age as fukuzawa so, yeah just make them the same in this case too.
i did mess up the timeline myself with this. so lemme clear it up:
The War and the whole thing with mori and yosano still happened when she was 11, so 17 years before canon. that means mori was still in his 20s back then, no big change
untold origins still happened when ranpo was in his teens, honestly we can keep it 14, so 14 years ago, meaning fukuzawa was in his late 30 or early 40s. again not too big of a change I'd say
fifteen happens when. well. dazai and chuuya are 15. ten years ago. i don't want q there get them out of my sight (for now) let them be a kid for a bit!!!!! but yeah like in canon that means the previous boss's murder was a year before, 11 years ago. also while we're at it, stormbringer is also the same aka a year after 15
now this is where we shake things up just a bit. rather than occuring when dazai is 18, i think we can push the dark era to when he's 20 and still maintain the whole childlike thing he has going on there, it's not that big of a difference imo.
that means, 5 years before canon instead of 4, making akutagawa 15 back then, and ango 27 like odasaku.
also yeah q comes in at some point in the middle between those^ I'd say close to dark era than fifteen.
originally i wanted to make skk 26 but this started stretching things even more. bc now we gotta figure out how long dazai spent in hiding. and ig we can keep it 2 years and just make it so his entrance exam was 3 years before canon. again imo not that big of a stretch 🤔
idk why i said this changes the timeline a lot i think this is p simple. also lets ppl stew in their situation for just a bit longer which i like more.
thank you for reading. you are very brave and strong for pulling through. feel free to disagree with my takes but just be nice about it please. I'm also open to hearing other takes if you have any that i didn't consider 🫡 but again just be nice okay?? 🥹
#long post#no read more button. dance#okay NOW i should go to sleep lol I've been typing this for like an hour 😐#dan rambles#not an analysis but still a long post written by me therefore it belongs in that tag.

What r ur opinions on the foot mutants?
I’m gonna assume you mean 2012 mutants from the Foot Clan
Tiger Claw: An interesting and fresh new villain for the Foot Clan and I think he is so cool! Tiger Claw is a brand new character to the TMNT franchise and he truly made a damn good impression with fans and myself. He establishes himself as a menacing villain and continues to be throughout the entire series. He has his funny moments too like with the catnip or him talking about wanting to eat Fishface. We get bits and pieces of his backstory as the story goes on, especially when we meet his sister Alopex and learn she is the one who cut off his tail, but I wish his dynamic and relationship with his sister was explored more in season 5 than in just one episode, which is why I stand by the idea that Alopex should've been involved the Kavaxas arc. And speaking of that arc, Tiger Claw starting a cult was random and kind of out of character to me. It was the only time I found him to be uninteresting. Overall a great character and a great villain, but I felt he was overused by the end.
Bebop & Rocksteady: I’m gonna talk about them both because my feelings for both of them are the same. I love them. I really enjoy their dynamic and relationship with each other (they are totally dating and you can’t convince me otherwise). Their dynamic with Tiger Claw is also hilarious, he’s their third wheel. I love Bebop's Michael Jackson-like attitude and Rocksteady's way of speaking always makes me chuckle. Their ending in season 5 though I wish was handled better, because apparently they leave New York and become heroes in New Jersey or something, which I am all for the villains turned hero trope, but I wish they handled it sooner/better. Regardless, I hope they are happy with their new life and please invite me to the wedding.
Fishface: Much like Tiger Claw, Fishface is also a brand new character to the TMNT franchise and I will say he’s an interesting one! He’s one of the few people in the Foot Clan who actually have a full backstory and a reason to why he works for Shredder. I love his character and personality, and I enjoy his dynamic with both Bradford and even Raphael. You get the feeling that him and Raph are friendly enemies, like they hate each other, but also respect each other because they share similarities. This is a concept I wish the writers explored more, but they didn't so I did it myself with a fanfic I wrote on AO3. There’s a little bit more backstory for him in the animated adventure comics, which I highly recommend people go check out because it explores his backstory a little bit more. He loses a few points though because he flirted with a minor 😷
Dogpound/Rahzar: This will be confusing considering they’re all the same character, but I like Bradford, I hate Dogpound, and I love Rahzar. I really liked the concept of Chris Bradford, a celebrity icon one of the Turtles look up to who is revealed to be a henchman for their greatest enemy. I find it disappointing that they don’t fully explore that concept for a whole season, which is one of the main reasons why I don’t like Dogpound, not only do I not like his design, but I also think that he was introduced too soon. Rahzar on the other hand I love! How he was mutated was so well done and I love his design, so scary, horrifying even, but also badass and intimidating. What I wish they done is that Bradford should’ve been human for the entirety of season 1 and then come season 2 he gets mutated officially into Rahzar. Remove Dogpound entirely.
Baxter Stockman: I consider Stockman to be a tragic villain because of how much he was mistreated by both the Turtles and The Foot, and I honestly felt bad for him when he got mutated. To me, he was kind of forgettable as a mutant. So when he was turned back into a human in the season 4 finale, I got excited and thought he was gonna make a comeback in the next season and be his own villain like he was in season 1, but we never see him again. I haven't watched the 03 series yet, but I wish Stockman took the route his 03 self did and slowly went insane in the 5th season, maybe trying to go back to being a mutant by experimenting on himself but it backfires. Have his actions be his downfall. Another example of this series' wasted potential.

Could you tell me more about Apollo?
Yes I can!
Dude I love Apollo so much. He’s always been my comfort character. This post is just his backstory because it would be far too long otherwise. I will make more if you would like.
The Ponturesi
Ok so Apollo’s story starts with him being given to the runic cult of the Ponturesi. (His bio parents are still alive but he doesn’t know that)
In the cult family Apollo is the oldest in a group of 4 kids which increases to 6 over his time there.
He quickly accepts these children as family and basically raises them, he feels a strong need to protect them and takes any harm to them as a personal failure.
This is incredibly hard on him as to teach the runes the children are frequently abused and there is nothing he can do to get them out.
Even more tragically, Apollo learns to be the best runic in years because he honestly believes that if he pleases the family enough, they will let his siblings go, but no matter how good he gets they would never have given them up.
While Apollo takes care of all of the kids, he feels a special connection with the two closest to his age, Cheren and Tyro.
Cheren was never a natural at the runes like Apollo, so when she fails to meet his high standards she is essentially hurt worse to try and kickstart her powers. (This is not how the runes work but the Ponturesi were willing to do some bad things)
When she eventually learns to use runes, she is so broken and feels so used that she is overcome with anger and becomes a force of destruction with no direction or discernment.
The family can no longer control her so they sell her to a group of private contractors to fight in a territory war in a different country.
Apollo, who thought of himself as her protector, feels useless. What can he do if he can’t even protect the people he loves most. He realises the family will never let them go and if they are going to live, he would have to free them.
Apollo uses the runes to bind the family in place while Tyro (and Renya but they don’t know that) escapes. He stays behind to maintain the bindings so is recaptured by the family as soon as Tyro is safely away.
In his opinion, this is the first thing he ever did right, and despite the pain he is put through by the Ponturesi for conspiring against them he is more focused on whether Tyro will be ok living alone in the world.
A few months later Apollo is able to carve a teleportation rune and manages to escape into the woods around Vasens.
Kar’Wysan
He spends a while getting his bearings and searching for Tyro physically when he finds out about the discrimination against sorcerers in the empire. (Tyro is a sorcerer)
Being a chronic overachiever, he starts using the runes to disguise sorcerers and help them get out of town to a small campsite near where he stayed in the forest.
As the scope of his campsite increases, it is noticed by the government, but also by other more organised groups who help sorcerers in need.
Apollo partners with the Manor (a group who help sorcerers cross the border to the wysindi coast) to give the kids he has helped a place to go.
Little does he know that Tyro has been living at the manor for weeks…
They meet up again and plot happens.
———————
Apollo in general has a lot of self-hatred from the time he spend with the Ponturesi but is genuinely the most kind caring person in the world. He consistently goes out of his way to save the ones he loves, to the point of bringing more abuse on himself to set Tyro free. Not to mention how cool his magic is. He was named Syrelne by the cult, which is the rune of illusions and images. At the time this referred to the way he would create stories for his siblings and paint any situation into a bearable one which is it’s own form of illusion.
As he grows up he internalises this quality and becomes proficient in illusion magic, creating beautiful scenes and dreams out of the ordinary.
Hope that gives you a little more context into my guy.
I have written a few scenes with him so ask if you want them.
The games I’ve done with him are in #apollo writing

you mentioned your character sheet having the fields "what kind of story do they think they're in" and "what role do they think they're playing in it"
i think this is awesome!
what else is on your character sheet?
oh my gosh. i was in the middle of answering this when i went to check something and clicked a link without realizing it was a tumblr link. it's gone. and. well. i'm sure you were not expecting as MUCH answer as i was putting there, anyway, so maybe it's for the best.
my character and worldbuilding sheets have an unhinged level of detail, because i use them not as a "fill this whole thing out before you get started" tool but as an "organize the information you include and thoughts you have so you can reference them later" tool, because (1) audhd and (2) i'm hoping the book i'm working on is the first in a huge expansive world that i'll still be playing in when i'm 70.
the character sheet is broken down into Basics, Role in the Story, Appearance, Communication, Backstory, Family,* Relationships, Personality and Psychology, Just for Fun, and Other (which is just a spot for if i need it, it doesn’t have any questions or prompts). and each of those has a ton of questions (except Other, as established in the previous parenthetical aside).
it's hard to say what i have in there that's the most important, or my favorite, or whatever, because it all depends very much on the character's answer. for example, most of my characters don't think they're in a story at all, they would say "this is my real life what are you talking about i'm not playing a role i'm trying to get to tomorrow," which means the questions you mentioned aren't all that fun for them, but they become very fun for a couple i'm writing, because Nat thinks he's living his best gay musical romcom life and Zari is convinced down to his bones that he's a lead in a deeply tragic romance - in reality, they're more like Merry and Pippin, and if they'd stop for a brief reality check maybe they'd reconsider picking up the Palantir.
these questions fall under "Role in the Story," which also contains fun gems like: personal goal, interpersonal goal, and team goals, because i get annoyed at character sheets that act like people just have one goal. and the full list of D&D skills and sets, even though i've never played D&D, because they seem useful. it also has "how much do they know about what's happening?" and "are they having a good time?" as some more example questions.
i have a lot in the sheet that would probably seem repetitive, but having similar questions in different categories means i think about them differently. i have "health" under Basics, for example, and that means if someone's using a cane it'll probably get mentioned there. but i also have "medical devices and mobility aids" under Appearance, because it tells me one thing that House has a bad leg because of muscle death and uses a cane, and another thing that the cane has flames up it and a skull handle and he uses it wrong. (if i'm misremembering House's cane please don't come for me it's been over a decade since i saw an episode of that show he's just still the most recognizable character i could think of with a mobility aid which is kind of sad)
possibly my favorite part of my character builder is this:
a cartoon by Tom Gauld (@myjetpack). it's right in the middle of my "personality and psychology" section. it's important for me to define what my characters do and don't know about because otherwise i end up with them knowing everything, and that's so boring. this comic just perfectly broke it down for my brain, so i plopped it in.
and a lot of my favorite questions focus on the contradictions and tensions and perception gaps inherent in being a person. what do they hate about the people they love, or love about the people they hate? what do they bring to their relationships, and what do they think they bring? what do strangers/authority figures/children/etc think of them, and what do they think people think of them? what's their biggest flaw and what do they think is their biggest flaw?
i could honestly go on forever about these; in fact i think this is still shorter than my answer that got deleted. so i'm going to cut myself off, but i'm happy to share more about them, and someday i may even post them for anyone else who might want them. i want to use them a bit first, though, to see what can be fine-tuned. in addition to character sheets, i've got sheets for Setting, Species, Religion, Nation, Magic System, Subculture (any group smaller than religion/nation/species that might have its own culture), and Scene (less worldbuilding, more to keep the details and goal of a scene straight in my own head, but still). these are all significantly less detailed than the Character one, but significantly more detailed than any one site i could find included when i was searching. and all my sheets, questions and prompts are gathered and compiled from all over the internet; i would not be able to provide sources because i did not bother to record them.
#*for the purposes of the sheet i define family as “the people you came from”#but that is not how i define it and is in direct opposition to many of my themes#sometimes we use language imperfectly because if we're obsessing over it at the building your character sketch stage#we'll NEVER get ANYTHING done#long post#character building#character design#character writing#worldbuilding#my writing#syf answers#sing-you-fools#id in alt text

Okay so the entirety of the WEBTOON is out and so is the KDrama. Both have, in fact, been out for a bit, but I needed to get my thoughts together. Obviously, if you haven't interacted with either piece of media, this is going to be a spoiler it. I'm specifically going to be talking about suicide and the way it's used in the WEBTOON as this particular character backstory and subsequent original death were both changed a lot. If you don't want to read about suicide, fictional or otherwise, or you don't want spoilers, please don't read on.
And if you want to know what's going on or want to know the full context of the WEBTOON because you've either never engaged with the material or have only watched the show? I recommend reading the comic on manhwa instead of WEBTOON since manhwa seems to be totally free. And in order to not take a while (plus lot of ads since you get 1 free chapter per day + 3 ad chapters that last 3 days) to read it there, you'll need the webtoon app and 15 bucks. And no matter what WEBTOON is gonna really yell at you if you do even a single screenshot.
Okay, to start off with, there are some things that don't change for Mr. Yu regardless of medium. No matter what, at the beginning he's seen as cold and distant. He's also extremely buttoned up and more than a little bit awkward around Jiwon to the point where he actually seemed suspicious to me at first because he was just always around when something was about to happen, and Jiwon did not know why that was happening, so neither did I.
It takes until chapter 46 of the WEBTOON for it to be revealed that Jihyeok also traveled back in time and died before. Up until that point, his goals and motivation are still somewhat mysterious. Even though they are like, fully dating by that point. But I don't consider that the biggest change. After all, the WEBTOON is from Jiwon's POV mostly, and the show took a much more widespread approach, which made sense. Also the show had to condense the entire comic into like, 16 episodes. That's a lot to get through.
So here are the things that I actually consider the biggest changes to his character and I promise I'll explain why those lead to the writer's choice of death for him making way more sense for that version to me.
1.) Jihyeok has known that he was romantically interested in Jiwon since before they officially spoke to each other in college. He even specifically saves Pang (the cat) because Jiwon liked that cat and he saw her interacting with that cat. He even saved the cat for her after Jiwon's ex poisoned the cat (yeah, she's literally always had terrible taste in men before Jihyeok).
2.) He quit his job at U&K after Jiwon married Minhwan in an attempt to move on because he still loved Jiwon. Probably wouldn't have been good to be the boss over the newlywed couple you're secretly like jealous over.
3.) The day Jiwon dies, Jihyeok goes to visit her because he learned she'd fallen ill. He sees her take a cab away from the hospital and isn't sure if he should go talk to her. And then he hears a scream and arrives just in time to see her die. He is devastated and arranges and pays for her entire funeral while wishing he could give his own life to go back to fix his own mistakes. Like literally. We get this information extremely clearly.
I think all of this combined with the fact that otherwise in his life, he's made no other choices for himself, makes Jihyeok killing himself make a sort of tragic sense. And also I've seen people say that there was 'no reason' for him to kill himself, and I've just got to wonder if the people who said that read that chapter at all. He literally says multiple times across 2 flashback chapters why he wants to die. Like I don't agree with suicide, but as someone who has battled, and is still battling, depression my entire life, and knows what it's like when it feels like your life has been kind of chosen for you? Going through a situation that he did has got to be devastating. Like in a completely soul crushing way. And if you have nothing to anchor you in life, it's not surprising when that life ends in heartbreak.
And from a literary standpoint there is something deeply tragic about a man who didn't truly make a decision for himself until it was too late and so the only choice he actually makes is how and when to die. The show has a different sort of tragedy in that he never decides how he lives or dies in the show for his first life. I believe my interpretation is further supported by the webtoon making his new life filled with choice. Like a lot of choices.
He is constantly making actual decisions in his new life.
He actually pursues Jiwon, he stands up for himself and others more at work, he actually ends things with Yura and gets her sent away pretty quickly (she doesn't die in the novel and straight up isn’t in the WEBTOON), and then he actually quits for the right reasons. He quits because he never wanted to run U&K in the first place, so he goes off to run his own company and leaves his sister to run it since she's the one who wanted that life. And she's better at it.
And I honestly think the show makes his character a little weaker for not having his arc focus on his choices, both good and bad. That's not to say he doesn't start making choices in the show, but it's more along the lines of 'I'll actually commit to this choice other people made for me'. Well, with the big exception being marrying Jiwon.
Jihyeok's decision to take his own life wasn't a good decision. It's not one I can agree with in real life, but from a writing choice, I like it for the story way more than a random car accident. I like the implications for the character and his arc way more if it's intentional. I think it's a stronger choice if this time he chooses to live and not to die. And also I really liked how it got then mirrored in Minhwan inadvertently killing himself with what was supposed to kill Sumin. I feel like overall the deaths in the WEBTOON in general, but especially with Jiwon, can be governed by the idea of choice, and the show lost that a little bit.
Also in the comic he literally opens his eyes and the first thing he hears and sees in his new life is Jiwon and you cannot tell me that's not the cutest fucking thing.

Another day, another wonderful australian tv show without a lick of fanfic to its name. So, in desperation, may I recommend:
Crazy Fun Park. A bunch of child ghosts haunt an abandoned theme park, the newest is our protagonist's best friend. Friendship angst and tragic creepy backstories abound, with a trans character and a grumpy lost-boys knockoff who only wants to help his sister.
Sweet, a bit corny but overall real good. I loved all the side characters backgrounds and overall growth. On ABC Iview (it's free!)
Irreverent. All I found (last I checked) on this were 3 shirtless gifs of the same scene. Worth it though, main character is HOT.
Basically, an american mafia diplomat pisses off his mafia, so he nicks a hundred grand and runs for the first flight he can catch. While making his escape, he meets a depressed reverend and tells him to ignore god and seize his own destiny. Said reverend therefore nicks all his stuff. Mafia man can do nothing but go to the reverend's posting in rural Queensland, and deal with both australians and improv-ing his way through religion. Plus a lot of sexual tension with the local police officer. (She's so cool!)
Incredibly funny, absolutely side-splitting, featuring angry routinely yelling at a man in sandals and hawaiian shirts. I also love how, when he gives his sermons/weddings/funeral services/etc he focuses on the message within the bible as opposed to "this exact line said this so you better do it." My favourite of the three, and I will be writing for it once my wips are defeated. On Netflix.
Ladies in Black (the 2024 show). Set in the sixties, focuses on the ladies and men of a fancy fashion store. Lots of characters of different races, and women trying to get ahead under the patriarchy, all chasing their dreams.
I yell at the tv a lot in this, because of dodgy men doing dodgy things. The main reason I long for more people to get into this is because I ship two of the main characters. Possibly the first w/w ship to truly overtake my brain. They both have good backstories, back each other up, and both try to help their families. And yes, they could be good friends but if you say "if [male-love-interest] doesn't kiss you, I will," followed by giggling, hand in hand, what am I supposed to do? I don't control the brain, it controls me. I haven't actually finished this yet, but I recommend it highly anyway.
The soundtrack is lovely, using period-typical music as well as non-diegetic modern songs. The look of the sets, the fashion, it's all so beautiful and stylish. And that's coming from someone who dresses like a divorced trucker. Also on ABC Iview.
If anyone knows of these, likes these, wants to discuss these, please talk to me. My brain will overheat for sure, otherwise.

I gave her a backstory like I would any dnd character and I'm sad about her, so here is her backstory....
---
Katya Dlusker
half-elf, she/her, nobel, warlock/bard, chaotic good prob
The Dluskers are a noble family from Baulder's Gate, and her papa Norold sucks. In "canon" or whatever he has no children, but like he's Katya's shitty papa. Her mother is a noble elf from Waterdeep, haven't picked which house, but I might make one up too.
The vibe with the Dluskers is that they don't have money, and papa backed the wrong horse during an uprising. So that's where her tragic backstory comes into play. Katya is not an only child, in fact, she's a twin. Her twin brother Yannick is super dead now.
Her mother and father made a deal with a hag coven, their children in exchange for money, power, and respect. Basically a full 180 in their social status. The twins were left on the doorstep at about age 6, and hags could do as they pleased. The coven consists of a mother and two daughters.
Her brother was forced to stay in bed (or in a very small cage), and was raised for slaughter like veal. Meanwhile Katya was put to work. Yannick didn't last long, he was eaten within months, and Katya's life stayed like that till she was 12 or so.
When she was 12, adventurers killed the mother hag, and now the coven was broken. The two sisters couldn't actually kill each other because of a charm their mother put on them. On came to Katya and promised her power and freedom if she killed the other hag. So little 12 year old Katya shoves the hag into a fireplace.
She wanders back to Baulder's Gate where her father welcomes her back into the family with open arms. Her mother was blamed for the disappearance of the twins and executed, and her father blamed the whole deal on her as well. Norold remarried another Baulderian noble and had several children.
Katya hates her step-mother as she worries that she will kill her or otherwise want to get rid of her. Her step-mother is actually really sweet and considers Katya her own daughter.
Her father on the other hand wanted to move on from his first wife, and first family, still Katya was an asset. She was trained to be the perfect lady.
She grew up into quiet the beauty (I mean look at her and her 17 in char), but years with hags basically destroys your self image. Her father expected her to entertain his allies, and woo his enemies to his side... by any means necessary.
Eventually she was promised to a man in marriage. She doesn't like this guy, at all, but she is desperate for her father's approval. She is 24/25 when she gets picked up by the mind flayers.
