You'll naturally feel drawn to one Goddess over others and praying to her will keep you protected. Bhakti (devotion) is the greatest armour. I have called upon the goddess during times of immense turmoil and she's always helped me navigate with grace BUT you should never make a deity feel "used". If you're praying, pray everyday, not just when something goes wrong. Think of it as a relationship you build with someone. You have to show up and communicate with them everyday, only then will they want to be your aid in times of need. Give thanks. Always.

My shoulders fall out of their sockets a lot. Woke up one morning and my right shoulder was just. Not in there. Didn’t hurt and it slid right back into place when I popped it. Now it just does that all the time. The left one has begun to do it too. This does not happen with other joints.

Mostly resolved now but it used to be that my hands would random lose circulation in the middle of the night? I’d wake up at ass o clock and have to massage my hands bc we’d gone past pins and needles fell asleep and skedaddled right into I can’t feel or move my fingers. Doesn’t happen anymore and did not seem to leave any long term effects. Could have been a mold thing??

I have little to no feeling in what should be erogenous zones. Almost certainly a csa thing but just. Fuckin nada. I have to use the highest setting on the vibrator to get anything to happen down there. Titties too. No sensation at all.

Cannot wear headbands of any kind without getting a massive headache or migraine.

This is going to be quite blunt but: your BF only believes in “your body, your choice” as long as you are doing what he wants. A women does not and will never need her BF’s permission to go on or off birth control. That is a complete violation of your bodily autonomy.

He expects you to put up with the physical and mental side effects of birth control 24/7 so that his sex can be, what, a little better for him? Wearing a condom is the minimum a man can do. What he is doing by giving you the cold shoulder until you acquiesce to his demands is manipulative and bordering on emotional abuse. I would take this a big red flag. Now, many radfems will say you should dump a man at the first major red flag and honestly I agree with this perspective but this is some advice if you do want to continue the relationship : Make a list of every side affect you experienced from birth control and how often if affected you. Read it to him and ask him honestly, is his “discomfort” from condoms worth you going through that? If he says it is, you will have to break up with him . Do not give in to using BC because of him, it will only be the first in a long line of concessions you will be expected to make for him. If he is reasonable and apologizes and says he did not understand, then your relationship can continue.

But the nicotine finds home in his lungs every time he has the butt of the cigarette at the corner of his pretty pink petal soft lips, nothing in resemblance of his darkened, coal-like lungs.

And honestly, he kind of does.

“I got you coffee.”

“I see that,” you respond, slowly reaching out for the paper cup filled with the goodness that’s as strong as jet fuel. “What’s the occasion?”

“I thought about what you said… quitting cigarettes.”

“Mmhm,” you hum, opening the cap of your drink. Just to make sure. No cream, no sugar, just plain black coffee. “What about it?”

Especially you. he has a knack for remembering the small, casual likes and dislikes of everyone he meets, even if they don’t always voice those preferences aloud, which makes doing business and even just regular social things go so much more smoothly. but he also notices things lots of people don’t just on the surface, and it’s saved his skin multiple times in the past (both literally and figuratively). it helps him track his intended target safely from a distance when he’s pursuing a new sacrifice to the House, it provides inspiration and possibilities when he’s helping a grieving family with funeral arrangements, and it did wonders for him when it came to creeping around your house alone the first time and figuring out everything about you he desperately wanted to know about your life, from your taste in music to your sleeping habits to your favorite snacks to whether there were any recent exes he’d have to take care of you, early on in your relationship. 🖤

his strength. it’s mostly natural from a lifetime of (dead)lifting caskets and bodies alike, but most people who know about it have also suspected since he was young that it has something to do with him being the Flesh Specialist of the three Morvants. people don’t expect it from a soft-spoken lanky guy in a suit with glasses, which means he has more than one kind of unexpected upper hand in a fight if it comes down to it. but he more regularly enjoys knowing that he can always pick you up no matter what - helpful if something’s wrong, of course, but he usually only does so for more flirtatious purposes (or, yknow, keeping you comfortably pinned against a wall when he’s railing you).

his skill at his trade. he’s a fantastic embalmer/restorer for the dearly departed and still would be if he wasn’t a necromancer, which is important to him. he doesn’t want to feel like he’s just getting by on necro-magic and luck. he has a way of making sure funerals go as smoothly as possible, which is a hard thing to do when you can have lots of very emotional people in the room. he likes the feeling that he provides dignity and at least a little closure to those who need it.

he’s a monster. he is. he knows this. he has been for ages now. as much as you would protest, he knows just how careless and callous he used to be during his bad spell. how selfish he became, killing whoever got in his way just to fulfill his Chain, justifying it to himself with the fact that if this was the life he was doomed for, he might as well be everything his demons expected of him. he considers his current life his reform - he’s desperately trying to make up for just how bad he let himself get, trying to give dignity and grace back bc he feels he stole it cruelly from so many people. he’s always afraid he could, under the worst circumstances, become that creature again, and part of him is convinced he’s protecting people - especially you - from himself.

that he never seems to be enough. he just isn’t, it feels like a part of himself he can never separate. in his mind, he wasn’t enough to make his mother want to stay alive when rora died, he wasn’t the son his father ever wanted him to be, and while he realized with age he ever wanted to be the versions of himself his parents might have wanted, he can’t help but feel that his real self lacks something that makes people want to keep him around. he doesn’t have hector’s charm and rora’s grace. he’s too earnest, too soft. he’s always the tiniest bit afraid that one day you’ll come to the same conclusion, realizing he isn’t the partner you want, that he can’t give you the life you deserve. he’s sworn that he’ll force himself to respect your decision if it ever comes to that, and let you go. but he’s entirely certain you’ll walk away with his entire heart if you do.

that he’s a skilled killer. it was inevitable, when you grow up in a family of necromancers and a Houseful of demons that hold the key to your family’s wellbeing that require being fed, but he hates how easily it comes to him. he’s convinced if he were a better man, it wouldn’t be so easy for him to keep his head clear and his own revulsion for what he’s doing at bay, he wouldn’t find a perverse satisfaction in seeing someone meet a violent end even if he’s made sure they deserve it first. if he was better, stronger, he wouldn’t be this.

that he’s a perfectionist who can’t seem to relax. he was very much raised with the belief that doing your job well was just the norm, not something to receive praise for. you give what’s expected of you and nothing less. but this means his standards are incredibly high in lots of facets of his work, and on top of the feeling that he already isn’t enough, he just makes things harder on himself because he already feels he’s trying to make up for the fact that it’s him, so to speak. he wishes sometimes that he could be more relaxed for you - someone who could just show up casually, simply, and be effortlessly charming. but he feels like he’s always thinking, planning, having to stay two steps ahead for his own anxiety’s sake.

he knows he’s kind of weird and overeager even when he’s being friendly. his interests are understandably macabre, and he genuinely has come to love a lot of the mortuary arts - to him, it’s a long tradition of people loving and taking care of each other through the centuries. he’s always sought the darker side of things even in leisure, because he was always was looking for others who felt… like him, in some way. for a place he belonged. he can get too excited about getting to share that with people, and forgets sometimes about it being offputting to people who don’t spend a lot of time in his world. but he doesn’t know how to love anything in half-measures.

that his life is just kind of generally complicated, and he’s been afraid to share it with people for so long. who would want to get involved with him when they could have a normal life, without the threat of literal hellish danger always looming in the background? when he himself would likely do the same in a heartbeat? but here he is, and he does what he has to. he does his best to keep you safe from it, even though you know everything by now. he loves you, and he wants to give you a life that’s safe and peaceful and happy. he hates sometimes that all he can give you is the one he’s got, but he’s glad he gets to share it with you nonetheless.

hello and welcome back, everyone! i’m back with another perfume review of nct’s jeong jaehyun’s perfume collection! i love smelling and collecting perfumes so this was a perfect excuse to know how he ‘smells’ like!

in this post, i will be reviewing:

again, for each of the scents, i will be adding photos associated with each perfume along with my reviews/reactions and listing if it’s masculine/feminine, my recommendation, and rating!

disclaimer: again, this is NOT an advertisement but simply a fun and personal review of his perfume collection! but seriously an endorsement deal would be nice like i’ve seen so many people buying his scents after publishing my first post

before you buy!! some of the fragrances will react differently on your skin as the scents are based on your body chemistry with certain chemicals listed on their ingredients. thus, you may smell a different scent when sprayed on your body than on mine. not only that, some of the perfumes utilizes synthetic ingredients, which can be a deterrent for those with a sensitive nose. i strongly recommend sampling them out at local stores before purchasing as these brands are expensive.

i do think a postcanon gin+zura is the most stable configuration of any chars involved in the cliff incident both just by circumstance of being the only two that make it out but also as the two most able to grow in the ways needed TO make it out. (and u have killed me framing katsuras actions in the tower that way. augh.) which.

i agree with everything else youre saying about shouyoutsuro 😭😭 the whole tragedy of, the more you think about shoukason, trying to gordian knot find the solution where everyone could have been safe and happy becomes more impossible. theres a lot of contradictions going on with shouyou and gin's relationship that you point out. and no neat way to resolve a lot of them bc of who they are and how that interacts.

AND I THIIIIINK to me youre so right about the distinction between shouyou and utsuro being not a solid real thing. when i was thinking about how shouyou dies and is immediately resurrected as the most bitter destructive version of himself, that still feels like its in reaction, not an absence of shouyou. he TRIED and it didnt WORK and now hes acting out.

(and what he triiiiiieeeeed was casting a kid who loved him and wouldve spent his life with him into the same role of every other human that ever hurt him, and simultaneously making him forever human who hurts him and monster who loves him, and what gintoki diddddd with that was accept it knowingly and willingly. AND. right. i think despite them both walking into this knowingly theyre both still ANGRY at the other for doing it.

utsuro-the-new now becomes all at once. how to say. a vessel for all the unrestrained parts of shouyou? the destructive (since constructive didnt work), the suicidality giving up (since existing can only bring him pain no matter what path he takes and he cant even die about it and trying to die about it hurt him more), but also the childlike fear and resistance of dying, and the childlike anger at gintoki THAT GETS represented as utsuro (when i think about the image of shouyou looking kind of resentfully over his shoulder on the cliff at gintoki and utsuro in identical execution poses - ITS SO INTERESTING. blaming both "the meaner self" who wouldnt "let him keep living" and also the tool he himself used - raised! - to do it)

(WHICH!!!! YEAH!!!! is exactly the kind of contradictory and somewhat unwilling mental gymnastics about how he should react to what gintoki has done for him, and reductive pedestalizing/demonizing of gintoki-the-symbol, that takasugi is also doing.

which is to say more largely. I LOVEEEE how unclean everything is thruout gintama. human to have all sorts of feelings about something that effects you and those are your feelings to have, no matter how justified or logical. and theres no neat way to break free of the worse ones u dont think u should have, u just have to live w the contradictions.)

i rambled even more and didnt even touch on everything u brought up kjsdfg i just get so excited about utsuro as an exploration of the unsayable things about shouyou. i still cant even begin to draw Moral or Effectiveness Conclusions bc i doooooooo love that utsuro is an emotional mess and that shouyou was kind of a dick lol. not at all a condemnation of him either. and my thoughts about katsuras treatment of gintoki are a whole other train of thought growing in me i could say a million words about but 😭 i love everything u point out abt him

any tips on how to start dressing better?

id loveee to dress with a more artsy, feminine style (for context i study arts, so visual arts, music, dance, theatre, but also business in the arts!) and i love love love your style like its literally how id dress daily if i could. i love style inspos like that but i don’t know how to maximise outfits with a few pieces, especially girly fits. i also love certain boyish/male-dominated sports and when i watch or attend the events id like to dress girly-ish? but also dress “right”, so shorts and stuff because its SO HOT but a lot of the places i work and study at are also rich people places so i also want to fit in and be taken seriously (i say this like i dont maximise my young and sweet girl persona to get around sometimes but still) 🫤🫤 i love your style because its so feminine and romantic and sweet and classy and timeless and i dress like that at times…. not always because i don’t know how to maximise my pieces but i thought you’d know best 😓😓

you can make several diff boards for diff occasions like "outfits for class" or "outfits for parties" and each can have a diff vibe that suits your needs

when we think of personal style very broadly, we tend to be overwhelmed so browse through pinterest and look at outfits for inspo and you'll have a realistic idea of what you'd like to wear

2. understand your body and vibe/essence

this is where Kibbe and Kitchener theories help the most but i feel like most people nowadays use it to beat themselves up for being a certain Kibbe type or being delusional about the kind of essences they have etc

however, if you have a good grasp of Kibbe/Kitchener, it makes dressing up 10000x times simpler,, my personal style has improved SOOO much since i discovered Kibbe & Kitchener in 2021-2022,,,

3. build a "uniform" for yourself

if u look at my style moodboards, u can see how most of the outfits are kinda similar ish?? they're either slip dresses, sundresses, maxi skirts + tops, midi skirts + tops and generally adhere to a pink + green/blue palette (i call it my strawberry shortcake color scheme hehe)

once u find what u like + what flatters u , stick to it tbh. its faaaar easier to get dressed if you know exactly what you're going for. its 100% more convenient and people are going to associate you with that look/aesthetic and i think its important to have a strong personal "brand" if u want to be distinct and memorable.

its even better bc if you ever wear something slightly different, people are going to lose their minds lol when all u did was channel a different vibe. its like a 0 cost makeover effect.

i think its economical, efficient, memorable and overall wonderful to build a personal "uniform" and stick to it

i can wear those outfits (from my moodboard) to class, to brunch, to dates, to shop etc,, they're very flexible and aren't overly dressy or overly casual.

i only buy something if i feel like i can wear it everyday, obviously some pieces are more dressy and are for "special occasions" but generally, dont buy anything you cant see yourself wear every single day.

im not saying you SHOULD wear it everyday but that, that should be the intention. clothes are meant to be worn and used, not just look pretty on the hanger. so when you're in the trial room, ask yourself, will i feel comfortable and cute wearing this everyday for a week straight if need be?

you can build a uniform for diff occasions too!! so sporty events can mean pink camisole with lace trims and cut off shorts with baseball cap and strawberry print Vans sneakers or some variation of that

4. maximising your pieces!!! (finally answering THE question u asked but we already know that i need to yap a bit to get to the point lmao)

i am a mix and match girlie and i think thats just the most efficient and economical approach to fashion lmao

take out everything in your wardrobe and lay it all out on your bed and start trying on different pieces together and take full length mirror selfies

create a folder in your gallery for "outfit ideas" and save these pix to that folder 😉

you can thoroughly clean out your closet and critically evaluate everything you own and play dress up and have fun all at once!! when you play around with clothes you own, you'll come up with outfit combos you would have never dreamt of and having them stored in your handy folder will help u access them quickly in the future when u have somewhere to go and need some ideas!!!

it will also help you understand what you have too little of and what u have too much of

maybe u have 10 pairs of pants and 5 skirts and only 6 tops,, now u know what u should and shouldnt shop for in the future

id never encourage unnecessary shopping but if your budget allows for it,, u can buy some "core pieces" that will be foundational to your wardrobe

anything can be worn a million different ways, u just have to be creative

understanding how colours work together + how fabrics work together is very beneficial

if u have a baby pink tulip skirt, u can wear it with a white corset top (pink and white look amazing together) ,, you can wear it with a white satin button down shirt, a white lace trim tank top etc etc,, notice how all of these are different styles of top wear but they're all white which means you can also wear it with any other colour or piece in your wardrobe

for every "standout/statement" piece your purchase (ex: a skirt with heavy embroidery or patterns) you should have 3 or more "neutral" pieces that complement it. "neutral" pieces are the ones that work with everything or most things in your wardrobe.

if you love monochrome, then u do u but otherwise id say buy pieces in colours you dont already have,,, u dont have to buy colours u hate but having pops of colour in your wardrobe also helps maximise outfits bc it looks like u have made more of an effort than u have.

many people hesitate to "wear" colour bc they think it looks loud or that it doesnt have repeat value or whatever but thats not true!! u can wear the same colourful piece thrice a week and style it completely differently and no one will notice

accessories ARE KEYYYY,, u can dress up or dress down a look with them. build a little collection of your staples, like jewellery u can wear everyday and not take off?? have a handful of essentials that u can rely on to spice up outfits. a pair of gold hoops, a pair of dangly earrings, a cute pendant, another cute pendant u can switch it up with, a few rings or bracelets, a watch etc u dont have to buy a lot or have a lot, u just have to be smart!!

same goes for shoes and bags,, have 2-3 in rotation that works with majority of your wardrobe,, nobody needs 10 pairs of shoes or bags tbh ,, dont hesitate to repeat things, it'll just be your "signature" look and who doesnt want a signature look?? 💅🏻😌😌

also since u mentioned u dont know how to maximise girly fits with a few pieces, I GOTCHU

its more efficient to invest in skirts and tops than dresses if u are on a budget bc a dress is an outfit in itself and u cant repeat it too often (u can get vvv creative with the styling tho ngl but thats for later)

this is a very basic white tank top. it looks cuter and "feminine" bc it has lace trims. what makes an outfit feel more girly is often little details like this. so instead of wearing a basic tank top, pick something that is a bit frilly.

u can easily create an infinite number of outfits with this one piece

a key part of the whole thing is that korra gets way more perspectives and more experiences representative of like, normal people in republic city bc i think something that really defined what a good avatar aang was was how many people he met and got to know and how he didnt exclusively or even mostly associate w cops and bureaucrats and leaders. so mako and bolin. well first of all their backstories are a little more fleshed out and we get a less black and white view of the “triads” (lol) and mako and bolin’s experiences w them. cuz the show very much does the whole thing of like Criminals Bad but dont worry even tho mako and bolin did commit crimes theyre not Criminals!! so just a little more nuance on the alleged gang problem and the poverty in the city

korra does start out very naive w very black and white ideas (ex. “you guys are CRIMINALS?”) i think a really good way of developing her away from her sheltered naive worldview is putting her in whats clearly an incredibly complicated city w an absolute cesspool of political conflicts, ethnic tensions, the lasting effects of colonization, etc and having her try and understand the needs of “the people” in a more complicated way than “i have to save the good guys from the bad guys” ykwim? and i think the absolute WORST way to do that is what they did. bc we get mako and bolin who could contribute genuinely compelling thematic elements to the story: one parent who was indigenous and one who was from a colonizer background in the decades directly following the end of the war, kids who grew up in poverty apparently without any familial support, and who now are trying to be “respectable” members of society (especially mako). and then most of that is pretty much tossed aside bc asami swoops in w her capitalist dad and her piles of money and the class issue is just never talked about again.

so the way i’d fix all that is like. introducing more, like, normal people. some nonbenders, more workers, more immigrants, etc, to show what daily life is actually like for people. because. we dont know! we dont have any context about whether the nonbender oppression thing is actually an issue bc we dont KNOW any nonbenders with normal lives! and spoiler: the nonbender oppression thing is not an issue. bc it doesnt make historical sense. lok is set 7 decades after the end of the war. that is not by ANY stretch of the imagination long enough to heal from the scars of imperialism, ESPECIALLY not when lok is also set in a settler colonial state. like that fact should have featured PROMINENTLY in the political and social setting! realistically, nonbenders arent an oppressed class, earth and water nation people are, regardless of bending status! as in all settler colonial states, the colonizers and their descendants (in this case fire nation people) retain most of the financial and political capital, leaving the colonized and racialized immigrants (in this case earth kingdom and water tribe people respectively) generally impoverished and politically suppressed. like aside from the fact that theres no way toph would have become a cop, it’s so ridiculous to think that an established privileged class of fire nation colonizers would EVER accept being policed by earthbenders!

imagine how much more nuanced and interesting it would be to set republic city as a remnant of a colonial past still fraught w the violence and tension that colonialism and the associated ideology imposed?? instead of some vague ideas of criminal who wear 1920s outfits and harass shopkeepers think about why extralegal and violent groups like that might form! earth kingdom people trying to push for the reclamation of their land? ethnic groups protecting themselves against corrupt cops? ESPECIALLY w the history that the fire nation has of SPECIFICALLY jailing and killing earthbenders and waterbenders BECAUSE of the potential they have to resist against fire nation imperialism like it just makes no sense at all that earthbenders would be privileged on land that, 70 years ago, they would have been imprisoned on! like these various paramilitary groups falling along these different ideological or ethnic lines, fire nation or earth kingdom or water tribe, pro colonization or anti colonization, pro cop or anti cop, pro immigrant or anti immigrant, and then you juxtapose that w depictions of a govt thats failing to keep this all under control w tenzin trying desperately to keep it together despite the fact that it’s becoming increasingly obvious that the state has no interest in taking the conflicts seriously and would rather just point vague fingers at criminals and gangs? and THEN you bring in korra, who has no idea about any of this and thinks that all its gonna take is kicking some ass every couple days, meeting normal people who offer all kinds of different opinions abt the efficacy of the state and the different violent or nonviolent groups and ideologies clashing in the city and the way all this shit is affecting people’s lives and livelihoods and relationships w other citizens??

theres so much good shit there so many incredible things u could do w that like Where do we go after colonial atrocities? is it possible for a settler colonial state to take revolutionary or indigenous ideas seriously? is liberal reform enough in a state like this? and then all the growth that korra could do going from a simple black and white life about mastering the elements to this messy complicated sociopolitical knot of a city? and all the different kinds of characters u could introduce in this city? like why would u EVER think that the most interesting characters that this story has to offer is a police chief a congressman and a billionaire????

but anyways. that’s what the Setting of my idealized version of lok is. as for the actual plot, it is as follows

it starts out similarly as the show. republic city is MUCH more fraught w political tension and violence and korra knows this but assumes that it’s just a matter of throwing a few gang leaders and corrupt officials in jail. tenzin manages to come see them in the south pole and intends give korra real lessons while he’s there but they receive news of a terrorist attack in republic city only a few days after he gets there so his family has to pack up and leave again.

korra stows away to republic city (katara catches her leaving and gives her blessing im a SUCKER for that moment). she does have a hard time adjusting but she doesn’t do what she did in the show lol the first person she meets in the city is this older woman who works on the docks, directs her to a place where she can eat and gives her a roof to sleep under for the first night. so korra’s first exposure to republic city is just about forming connections w ordinary people like ship workers and a family owned restaurant and people practicing their bending in the park. and by the time she reaches air temple island a day or so later her head is spinning w all this new information and the way that nothing is really what she expected it to be. tenzin gives her his own perspective on everything and pema gives her her own perspective on everything and even those two seem wildly different from all the people she’s already met. and so korra starts to get a kind of outline of the conflicts plaguing the city as extremely complex and a lot more influenced by older ideas of fire nation imperialism and earth kingdom land reclamation than she had any idea about.

mako and bolin are still pro benders but not like. super famous like they are in the show. korra’s picked up a couple friends by now and one of them takes her to a gym where a lot of amateur pro bending (is that an oxymoron? lol) matches happen and thats how she meets mako and bolin and joins their pro bending team. Unfortunately for korra, this gym is run by lin beifong, and also has the distinction of being one of the most notoriously anti settler state organizations in the country. lin beifong is NOT a cop but she runs this gym (and the pro bending league) as a way to offer support to local earth kingdom/water tribe youth, teach self defense skills, a center of community organizing, and sometimes to act as a front to hide revolutionary/combat organizing against the pro fire nation paramilitaries/police force. tenzin is DISTRAUGHT that korra does this and this is where the friction btwn them comes from bc (from tenzin’s perspective) she does things like this without thinking or even fully understanding the context behind them and tenzin will have to deal w the political fallout of the avatar openly aligning herself w a very divisive figure in the community and (from korra’s perspective) tenzin is too unwilling to take sides in a conflict that’s claiming lives and when the state is clearly not taking sufficient steps to protect people well then why the hell shouldnt she align herself w lin beifong, who IS taking steps to protect and support people?

as korra more fully integrates herself into the city and learns more abt how different people think abt everything going on this is where the real exposition abt the equalists begins. they’re a paramilitary group w an ideology thats gaining increasing support among middle/upper class fire nation people, esp nonbenders. on the face theyre abt putting checks on “bender oppression” but really it’s an excuse to persecute and surveil earthbenders waterbenders and airbenders, bc fire nation people have all this leftover fear about benders who arent fire nation Rising Up Against them and these people who r using their Savage Excuse for Bending to terrorize good innocent (fire nation) people. theres all too frequent terrorist attacks that the equalists claim credit for mostly against monuments to earth/water/air nation people and earth/water nation community centers (one like it was the event that forced tenzin back to republic city) but also like the govt doesnt take a lot of these seriously or if they do only a couple people are charged without doing damage to the entire organization

this is also around the time that they meet asami and she becomes part of their friend group. asami likes pro bending but her dad HATES it so she sneaks out to watch matches at lin beifong’s gym (korra says ironically like don’t u know how ~divisive~ that is and asami answers that the only reason its Not divisive is that gyms like beifongs are the only place where nobody recognizes her). and asami alongside korra is also kind of developing a more nuanced perspective on the city that she lives in cuz obviously the only worldview she’s ever been exposed to is her father’s right? and she keeps pushing it off making excuses not to bring mako and bolin and korra around to her house or even not to be seen w them in certain neighborhoods until they call her on it and she’s like Well honestly my dad might do something awful to u! and i dont wanna risk it!

and as time goes on we see more abt asami’s home life like her father’s hyper conservative politics and asami keeps these secrets abt her hobbies and her friends from him but she’s still clearly under his influence and mako bolin and korra r getting increasingly worried abt it cuz like...asami seems to tend to make excuses for him so that she wont have to be drawn into conflict and originally they think its just her being privileged and thats def part of it but the more they find out abt it the more they realize what a tight fucking grip he has on her and the way that like. asami sneaking out once or twice a week is the Only thing she does for herself. and it really starts freaking them out how influential this billionaire is and all the information theyre getting from asami abt what a piece of shit he clearly is. and so that whole plot thing comes about and shows us how deeply embedded these “equalist” ideas are in conservative republic city politics and how much influence theyre actually having in policy making and law enforcement.

asami suffers in the aftermath of this like being forced to truly confront the harm her father is doing both to the city and to herself. and she ends up leaving home when this discovery really breaks. but bc of the deep corruption in govt and police sato isn’t really....dealt with? like this big story breaks and everyones like Oh, My God! Hiroshi Sato Is Funding An Illegal Paramilitary Group! and theres all kinds of inane political discourse about it and he’s arrested but he bails himself out immediately and his finances are examined but he maintains control over them and after a few weeks the gang (bc they Have become close among all this w much less interpersonal drama lol) has to admit that this news story hasnt done what they thought it was going to it hasn’t dealt the equalists a real hit its just given them a very high profile ally

and this is when things really start to ramp up in terms of action like up until now korra’s daily activities are mostly like hanging around in the city w her friends  (which in part entails doing little avatar stuff that people dont feel comfortable going to police with, like Can you help me my ex husband wont pay child support or Please help i got robbed and i really needed that money for rent next month or Help my son keeps skipping school can you talk to him cuz im worried abt him being safe and doing well in school) and pro bending and airbending lessons (which i know ive neglected this part of the story in terms of her whole spiritual/physical conflict but it’s more of a subtle thing like it’s one of tenzin and korra’s more frequent arguments like tenzin says she needs to focus on spirituality and korra asks why she even needs to bc republic city is a sociopolitical problem not a spiritual one) but now the equalist threat seems to really be looming on every level of society like the storyline of equalists preventing pro bending matches happens here and everyones just at a total loss of what to do next. plus increasing and scary rhetoric about tenzin and his family that destroying the last airbenders is necessary to preserving the integrity of the united republic

and so theres the equalist takeover of the city. the people who are mostly resisting this are lin and ragtag group of people who have been resisting colonial rule for a long time (including suyin, who is part of a communist anti colonial community outside the city, because i said so and i think it would be fun), people who have been visiting her gym for years, members of her amateur pro bending league, plus asami and korra and tenzin. korra and tenzin have a sweet moment (bc they do genuinely care abt each other a lot even if their relationship has been marked w a lot of tension and arguing) where tenzin says like you know i think that ive lost focus on the kind of spirituality that might actually help you. korra says what do you mean? and tenzin kind of gestures to where theyre sitting with people buzzing around organizing to take care of innocents and civilians and to fight the equalists and he says this is a kind of spiritual too, isnt it?

and something something plot plot blah blah i havent decided on the details of the plot climax yet but that’s the climax of korra’s character development and what helps her connect w her spiritual side in order to protect the city: the realization that community is its own kind of spirituality. and it kind of represents the real development that i want her to have going from somebody who thinks that the world is divided into criminals and victims and she has to save the victims Into the kind of avatar who understands the people that she’s bound to serve. she becomes an avatar of the people!

and then happy ending lol korra and asami get together lin and tenzin reconcile after years of being at odds the show ends on a hopeful note that the inhabitants of republic city and the united republic as a whole Can move on from the scars of colonialism by reckoning w the remnants of fire nation colonial ideology and reparations to the earth kingdom people whose land this is and destruction of colonial systems that have maintained and enforced colonial violence all these years

Is there a direction that CRWBY could go to make u say "fuck it, I'm done"? I'm still watching for fanfiction purposes and bc I'm in to deep to quit without feeling like i wasted my time, but if Cinder is redeemed, like full-on redeemed without her death (that's the only justifiable redemption for her imo), I'll likely tap out if it's not the end of the series.

Honestly, at this point probably not. If I've stuck around for plotlines I thoroughly disagreed with (Ozpin), the destruction of characters I enjoyed (Ironwood), while simultaneously redeeming others I have no interest in (Hazel), and including aspects that I found to be straight up offensive (Penny)... RWBY has already hit all the "Fuck it, I'm done" possibilities for me, generally speaking. It's more likely that rather than doing something specific that turns me off, RWBY may just wear me down over time. I'm still interested in watching it despite the problems now, but after two, three, even four more years of potential problems? Who can say.

I'd like to briefly comment on that "I'm in too deep to quit without feeling like I wasted my time" aspect though, simply because I'm seeing it pop up more and more. Fans, specifically fans who have expressed varying amounts of criticism, say something to that effect of not wanting to drop RWBY when they've already put in years of emotional investment, to which others, usually fans still greatly enjoying RWBY, respond, "That's just the sunk cost fallacy. At this point you're being illogical for not dropping it."

For any who may not be aware, the sunk cost fallacy is the tendency to avoid cutting one's losses once you've already invested something in an endeavor: time, money, emotion, etc. The argument is to avoid such biased thinking because you can't get that investment back and all you're doing is prolonging a lack of enjoyment. An easy example would be a movie you payed for. You realize twenty minutes in that you hate this film, but you can't get your ticket money back. Many people would employ the sunk cost fallacy by claiming they need to stick around because otherwise that money is "wasted." The counter argument is that the money is wasted either way, so better to leave the theater and spend that hour and forty minutes doing something you like. That's becoming the latest argument trend in the RWBY fandom: it doesn't matter how many years you spent investing in this show, they're lost, you clearly hate it now, so just drop it already. To do otherwise is philosophically foolish.

However, I've personally always found the sunk cost fallacy to be a weird thing to apply to media. Not because countering it is entirely without merit — we all should practice dropping things if we want to: books, movies, podcasts, whatever — but rather because there's so much to be gained from media outside of enjoying 100% of the time. For me, finishing things is a kind of enjoyment. I'm rather bad at it (lol), but that doesn't erase the fact that I have an intellectual itch to complete any series I fell in love with, particularly when I loved it for 3+ years. Managing that provides a different kind of enjoyment from the enjoyment of being totally happy with the show's writing, but it's an enjoyment nonetheless. If I'm critical of something, I like being able to say honestly that I completed it so that can't be used as a catch-all dismissal for why any arguments I make are unfounded. I enjoy seeing what missteps a show goes through so that I can try to avoid them in my own writing and, hopefully, I enjoy watching the show come back from them. I like keeping up with a community that I'm a part of, one where I chat with both friends and strangers specifically about RWBY. If I were to drop it, I'd also be dropping the connection I have with a lot of people. I likewise enjoy keeping up with the show for the creativity potential — "for fanfiction purposes," as you say, anon. I may not like how the show handled the Hound, but I like the Hound as a concept and now, having watched Volume 8, I can play with that idea in my own way. And none of this even touches on the enjoyment of details throughout an episode (or season) that I think is otherwise failing: a particularly cool idea, a nicely delivered exchange, animation that I find to be beautiful, spending time with characters whose original concepts I still enjoy, etc.

The critical side of the fandom has discussed extensively the non-critical side's tendency to view RWBY as perfect. It's not that many fans disagree on what problems RWBY has, but rather it's refusing to admit that there are any problems. This new desire to bring up the sunk cost fallacy feels like it's built on that, the idea that if you're not enjoying all of RWBY all the time then you need to cut it out of your life completely. There is no middle ground. You either adore it without reservation or you drop it and, as is so often said, leave the "real" fans alone. Stop ruining the community and all that because the expectation is that the community is allowed to be composed of praise and praise only. It's a familiar argument wrapped up in a very disingenuous sense of concern. When one fan insists that another should drop RWBY because they're just hurting themselves, they're acting like they really care about the others' well being when, in reality, they just want them gone. It's a trend that I'm coming to dislike because it tries to paint the fan as the logical, level-headed one who is only trying to get the critic to drop RWBY out of a sense of logical inevitability and, sometimes, even concern for this stranger's mental health... because there's definitely no other motivation there.

All of which is a long-winded way of saying, "Me too, anon." As of right now, I still feel like I'm in too deep to just drop RWBY. I'd rather see it through, for a number of different reasons, and all the "it's illogical/unhealthy to keep watching" arguments aren't going to dissuade me from that.
