As my Roomie pointed out, the biggest cause of the Dance is Viserys and how he treated his children and their roles. This is purely from a show perspective and while it would have taken a bit of hope he definitely could have set it up to make people more accepting of Rhaenyra's succession in a variety of ways.

The biggest?

1.) Do. Not. Fucking. Marry.

If you are worried about the Targaryen family being small? Annul Daemon's marriage on grounds of non-consumation and make an agreement that he has to remarry and have children within a certain amount of time. Give him a little freedom in ut and I think he might even do it.

Start talking to Rhaenyra immediately about her role and needing heirs as soon as she can to solidify it. Do NOT marry her off immediately but be actively involved in helping her find someone suitable and she is attracted to (not Laenor). Cue a long engagement until she's older but the known arrangement would have been stabilizing.

There's plenty of good choices. Harwin is the obvious for their connection. Tyland would work. Anyone meeting the requirements.

Another good person: Gwayne. Gwayne Hightower is from a good family but is the youngest son of a second son so he is more acceptable to marry in and doesn't have conflicting duties. It keeps the Hightower connection and they are close in age and more likely to establish an interest in each other due to this.

Viserys, if he was so lonely, could have just taken a mistress. There would have widows around his age he might be able to start a romance with or frankly pay women.

2.) Get support.

Give Rhaenyra ladies from all over to bond. Take second and third sons as wards so she has a chance to interact and bond with them to establish connections.

Reward people who back her up and use the Hightower connection to charm the Faith for their backing. Donate to them in her name. Open up charities.

3.) Establish her role.

Go on Progresses to firmly establish in the minds of others that Rhaenyra is the heir. Rhaenyra is canonly charming. Let her charm people! Plus it keeps an eye on people potentially rebelling.

Honor her roots in the Vale and let Rhaenyra see how a woman ruler handles things by having her spend time under Jeyne.

Give her a real position at Court like previous heirs. Have her sit in either with you or Otto when decisions are being made. Have her work under different members of the Council and take notes at meetings rather than just acting as cup bearer.

Have her be seen at charity work around the city and have he take over things that are traditionally the Queens role in Court to ease in as it ties to her education so far while gathering more appropriate tutors to cover the areas that haven't been in her previous education. Covering ALL areas as

Give her bedmates (ladies in waiting and girl companions) to sleep with her because her reputation must be even more untouchable now.

Honor her roots in the Vale and let Rhaenyra see how a woman ruler handles things by having her spend time under Jeyne. This gives her practical experience and can be the start of having her visit and act in place of the Crown.

5.) Call in Rhaenys. Ask Rhaenys how her father prepared her and try to establish familial bonds again, so Rhaenyra has another mentor who can give her further advice like Jeyne.

BONUS: If he is worried, he looks weak? TRY AND BOND WITH ANOTHER DRAGON! It's supposed to be possible. And getting this would have balanced things.

BONUS 2: If you HAVE FURTHER LEGITIMATE CHILDREN, ESTABLISH THEIR LIVELIHOODS SO THEY DON'T NEED TO DEPEND ON THEIR SISTER AND IT IS CLEAR THEY AREN'T A THREAT.

Genuinely. I've been asked stuff like that before and I have no idea how to answer...

I've been drawing all my life, I don't know myself without a pen in hand, and I also realized early on I don't like being told what to do so I never really followed a course, a teacher or any particular rules, I'm self taught all the way... I have no idea what advice to give you besides do whatever you want, cause that's what I did. But I'm aware that's shit advice for anyone else, it makes no sense.

I don't know what to tell you to practice but I can tell you to embrace imperfections. Let loose, focus on the shapes of things (and if this doesn't make sense yet, it will. Just keep going) Don't try to get better at everything all at once. Take your time. Hell, you'll probably get better faster than I did if you have some discipline (hate that word, used by toxic red pilled men way too much), I am where I am because I've been drawing all my life but I was lazy about it.

There's lots of free advice and tutorials out there. There's nothing wrong with using bases, nothing wrong with using lots of reference pics, nothing wrong with using 3D models.

The most important part of art is to enjoy what you're doing. Don't compare yourself to others. Don't try to be great or the best, just better than you were yesterday. Learn how to look at your old art and not say "this is awful" but "this is great for my skills back then". If you get frustrated, take a step back (I still have moments when I wanna pull my hair out). Things will click together in time.

the amount of people who see something on the internet and just straight up believe it without any further thought is utterly shocking and terrifying.

like, for example, i could comment on some random video, “you know agatha all along is actually homophobic,” and somebody who has NEVER WATCHED A MINUTE OF A MARVEL SHOW and someone would guaranteed, 1000%, comment “you know i’ve never even seen this show but i can’t believe they would be homophobic in this day and age,” and im not even exaggerating.

i just saw a post on shows that swivel the plot completely out of spite once they realize that their audience is women when they wanted it to be men, and someone mentioned 5 seconds of summer. another person agreed, basically saying, “i haven’t heard any of their music, but back in 2014 they were riding the coattails of one direction pretty hard, so i can’t believe they would do that.”

please. stop. talking. 5 seconds of summer are nothing but 1000000% thankful for their female fans. hoping that their fanbase will extend to people who aren’t women is not a weird desire to have, because obviously any artist wants support from as many people as possible, that doesn’t mean they hate the audience they have. 5sos has never done anything to spite their female audience, in fact, they actively support us! for every tour they have, they have a band that is either all female or that has female led vocalists because they know that there are teenage girls and young women at their shows and want them to feel inspired. they have said numerous times that they are nothing but completely grateful for their fans. they are one of the few bands i’ve found that has such an incredibly deep bond with their listeners, and saying that they wished more guys listened to their music does not mean they have changed how they make music to get a more male audience. in fact, they’ve gotten MORE pop as of late, a genre that commonly has female listeners. also worth noting that opening for an artist does not mean they were “riding the coattails” of one direction, they literally just opened for them and got more fans because of it. which is like. the entire point of an opening act. like that is the entire point, of course they have similar fans to one direction. hello.

Hi! Former Art Teacher here!

All art has value! It is not necessarily monetary value. However, that does not mean the work that has been created isn’t valuable. Not only is there an emotional connection to this work (or any work created) but it takes a lot of work to create.

The control of an apparatus to manipulate material is very difficult. A paint brush, an embroidery needle, a computer mouse… it doesn’t matter what it is, humans have to control it all the same. This requires fine and gross motor skills (fingers, wrists, elbows, shoulders, and sometimes toes, feet, knees, hips dependent on the artist). Not only is this tool held it has to be moved across another surface, which may or may not be smooth and easy to move across. Even abstract artists control their movements. Even Jackson Pollock. The less control there is of the materials the harder it is because then the materials just do what they want! They don’t care if the artist wants something different!

Which brings us to the mental fortitude it takes to be creative. Artists must adjust their focus as they work to accommodate the material. Many people can relate to accidentally having colored outside the lines and then either 1) giving up and starting again or 2) making use of the mistake and forcing it to be intentional. (I have additional thoughts about “coloring outside the lines” but that is out of the scope as this post.) This type of mental gymnastics, accepting a mistake and learning to live with it, is very difficult even for adults! However, after enough exposure and support it builds resilience and confidence.

These are qualities we should strive to have, and creating art is a big way to gain these skills. The world needs empathetic individuals who can see a challenge, come up with contingency plans, and then follow through even if it’s hard. This does not mean that we should expect people to stick with something when it’s bad or dangerous! It means we should allow the people to make the decision that if something isn’t going how they expected to change! Adapting is a huge part of the human experience and art helps drive that!

Art gives us a snapshot into someone else’s lived-experience. We can relate to visual artwork just as we can relate to a Taylor Swift song (which is also a form of art!). Art breeds connection which is, arguably, the cornerstone of humanity. We can look upon cave paintings from tens of thousands of years ago and see ourselves, our animals, our Earth. Art can bridge across the divide of generations, races, and history and remind us that we are all human.

And if you’ve read this far and are still not convinced that either 1) you’re creative or 2) you’ve ever found a connection with a creative endeavor it is simply because you have not found your niche yet. Anyone can create. That can be words, music, ceramics, painting, drawing, sculpting, fiber. I was always very intentional in exposing students to as many art forms and materials as possible because everyone has something they connect with. It may be basket weaving, it may be sculpting from recycled materials… it doesn’t matter, the niche exists. (Sometimes this means that there are materials used that society finds questionable such as urine or menstrual blood! That’s okay! If you look at that and “don’t get it” or find it “crude” that means that particular niche the artist has found is not your niche.)

If you are one of the individuals who say “I can’t draw a straight line”, well, stop doing that then. Have you tried to roll a piece of playdough into a snake? Or build something out of lego? Or sorted tree leaves by color into a circle? There are so many ways to create art! Do not feel forced into a niche that isn’t yours!

Art, or the process of it, is worth so much more than the monetary value someone assigns to it. Please don’t dilute its importance.

Fr tho. I get tired of seeing every single one of them as absolute jocks. It’s kind of uncomfortable. I mean, I know it’s like a fantasy for a lot of people, but I can’t see the appeal behind it.

I’ve always been a fan of diversity, and in fact, im attracted to it, but when I see something so boring and repetitive… I get so turned off. Not even in a sexual sense, like, it just makes me so disconnected.

Once again pushing people to not be afraid or unsure of diversity. Learn a few different things and try new ways of anatomy. You could also learn a thing or two. Maybe you actually have a skill for it, or maybe you find that you like what you made. It’s an adventure either way.

i really do think there’s a huge disconnect on here w/ people who have never used tiktok as to what it actually is and who actually uses it. the number of people i’ve seen call it a “teen dancing app” is actually insane. it has not been a teen dancing app since i was in high school, around 2016 - 2020. the main communities i saw on a daily basis were 1) black history/anti-racism educators, 2) high school & college teachers sharing in-classroom strategies and frustrations with the education system, 3) local/state political leaders giving real-time updates on behind-the-scenes government decisions, & 4) community activism & leadership. like tiktok is an adult platform. almost every person i interacted with was my age or older. and yes it completely depends on your fyp and how you interact with the app, yes there’s still teenagers and dance videos and literally anything else you can think of. but these communities of adults aren’t insubstantial at all, they have literally millions of interactions on a daily basis. there’s about a million other types of communities that i could name just off the top of my head, because the range of users was SO diverse and thriving. it’s a long-distance community tool, just like any other social media—and honestly much better than any other social media, because it relies primarily on the kindness of strangers. i saw at least 5-10 videos today of queer people in rural areas panicking because they don’t have any access to queer community on any other platform or in real life. and before i end this i do want to say i think tiktok is coming back, i think this is a highly orchestrated political move, etc., but i do know it won’t ever be exactly the same. people are panicking about free speech violations because tiktok was a place where people fucking SPEAK. i have never seen mass mobilization and communication in this same way for as long as i’ve been alive. it is the people’s app, not just a silly teenage thing. if you’re not on tiktok and never have been, please stop talking about it like you know anything at all😭

I will hold your hand as I say this. Sabrina is an adult woman who likes to make tongue-in-cheek music about luring and murdering men. Her persona since the last album cycle has been very femme fatale—feminine, pretty, cutesy, sexy, kinky, small, submissive in bed, wants a prince charming, also direct, non-conforming, frightening, intelligent, scheming, ruthless, might poison you, callous, player, comedienne. The man on the cover doesn’t even look like Sabrina’s general type, or particularly romanticised. He feels more symbolic of “posh rich old man who has no idea I’ll eat him alive”.

We’re circling back dangerously close to policing women’s sexuality as a political tool, both from the left and the right and it is not a good thing. Our implicit puritanical expectation of white women is already weird (and racist on the flip side when we regard BIPOC women as inherently sexual). Let women exist and own their sexuality in peace without politicizing it. Conventional femininity isn’t inherently unfeminist, even when it is performed for a masculine partner and not just “for the girls”. We can’t make this mistake again, we moved on from and built nuance upon the exclusionary principles of second-wave feminism for a reason. We’re not doing 4B. We’re not doing political lesbianism. We all have valid big feelings lately but we have to take a deep breath and stop projecting them onto minor media aesthetics and optics, and instead channel it into real community work. Read a book.

It's wednesday my boys, raise the JonElias

(hoo boy i sure hope the quality hasn't gone to hell)

I don't know what devil @sweetmapple 's recent comic put in me but it demanded me to spend THREE DAYS drawing JonElias instead of doing anything else I had to be doing this week.

That being said this is by far one of my favourite drawings I've ever done, so some details that I like go under the cut!

I thought Jon's face looked really good here, his hair in s1 used to be longer, but because of the Worm Attack he cut it short enough not to feel it against his skin, because he kept feeling it squirm against his neck. Tim did the same although I haven't drawn it yet

Writing this made me realise I... Didn't draw his worm scars. Oh well.

This was partially motivated by a conversation I had on discord that said that Elias would probably dress Jon up way more than he should be for certain occasions. I imagine this being mid s3 so that Elias can dote on him with so many eye-motif things, and Jon thinks its corny as hell but wears them anyway because those are the best clothes he's ever had anyway. He does end up looking like Elias's arm candy every meeting/gathering they go to though, like a trophy Elias likes to show off, and the eye markings are just further proof of ownership.

Also the world WILL end if I ever draw Jon binding. If you ever see me do it you can call the police because I WILL BE under distress and that will be my call for help

These guys absolutely do not have sex but instead they have this very niche thing where Elias starves Jonathan for a while just to remind him that he's so dependent on statements and then finally gives him some of the papers he had with him the whole time. Jon then gets sat down while he regains his strength and even though he does so about halfway through the statement he doesn't really move away from Elias, whether its because he's too focused on the reading or because he wants to be there is always something he'll argue about, even though he knows its futile and that Elias knows the answer to that himself.

I also shaped Jon's glasses a little more with this one :] so that Elias's would look different even though they are matching with identical strings

It is time for me to once again infodump about Javert. Javert. JAVERT! JAVERT IS A POOR ROMANI MAN BORN INSIDE A JAIL! He is unhoused otherwise, his only home is a LITERAL PRISON! HE IS NOT A PRIVILEGED ASSHOLE! I love Javert, but I know that a lot of people don’t - that being said, if you wanna hate Javert, you have to hate him for being A CLASS TRAITOR not for being some rich white guy. CUZ HE IS NOT THAT! The main reason why he is the way he is, is because he hates his identity and his past! He HATES his circumstances and he HATES what he was born into so he takes it out on those around him! When he tells Valjean “you know nothing of Javert, i was born inside a jail, i was born with scum like you, i am from the gutter too” that’s SO true and SO sad bc he hates himself SO MUCH for what he was born into AND he hates Valjean bc he SEES HIMSELF IN VALJEAN! It’s such a good portrayal of systematic injustice and internalized racism — that is, when you actually write Javert as the poor Roma man that he is. Javert deserves SO MUCH BETTER. He is not a bad guy and he deserves to be in heaven in the musical epilogue. He hates himself and he hates people like him, and most of all he hates the people that are like him who DONT hate themselves! And THAT’S the most important part of his arc and i just wish he could’ve been able to accept himself and the people in his position. He is so complex and morally grey and so beautifully written!

the comics that depict him as explicitly ugly are also riddled with classist and psychophobic bullshit. It's not incidental that he's ugly in these pieces, it's an aspect of the messaging to frame him in a bad light and to make you associate "ugly" with that story's negative traits du jour. 2.a. "Ugliness" is commonly attributed to poor people for this purpose.

I don't think you know what "ugly" means, because outside of certain kink stuff it's typically diametrically opposed to "being attractive"

people have already said this multiple times: the traits you associate with him being "ugly" say a lot about you and how you view the people around you.

A lot of the traits you are giving this description are, all-in-all, fairly average and common traits. You're not just calling him ugly, you're calling anyone with a certain body type ugly (usually like... a flat-bellied strongman-build, which is extremely common amongst people who work trades & others). You're calling anyone with scars ugly.

I saw a post the other day where someone was screaming about how ugly GK!Jason was (... and then the sexual acts they wanted to do with him), do you know how many people I see on a regular basis who look just like that depiction of him? You're calling them ugly. People's friends and families and maybe even themselves who have this very common appearance, you're calling them ugly.

"Ugly" is an explicitly negative word, and seeing you use it brings up explicitly negative connotations for people. The fact that the poor, formerly-homeless, sometimes-criminal, ex-villain, EXTREMELY visibly mentally ill ex-Robin is associated with ugliness is an inherently classist concept and I don't know how we can better beat this into your heads that you need to break your internal associations of those traits with "ugliness."

I know "ugly bastard" is a porn trope and something that explicitly turns some people on, but given how flatly generic most of his appearances make him alongside the generically pretty boys in the Bats, a lot of people aren't seeing the "ugly" traits you are. Likely, you're too steeped in influencer and celeb beauty culture to even realize how fucking normal looking these physical traits are.

Get the FUCK over yourself and actually read what people are saying, these concerns and associations aren't made in a fucking vacuum and all the issues people have with you calling him ugly, or even for his ugliness to be canon, has been thoroughly laid out if you open your eyes and actually try to learn from other people for once.

i think it's extremely fun to pair rook and solas together in any regard, no matter if he previously was being romanced because as clear narrative foils, having an enemies to lovers (and in tandem, bitch4bitch, hater x hater) dynamic feeds into that delicious 'whenever I see you I see myself and I hate that' and 'you are everything I hate about myself' soup.

I once saw a post with a collection of quotes that had this certain vibe, in the 'you and I are the same' (negative) way. if i had a quote to represent them it would be:

so shipping them feels very complex and interesting to think about, because, like in that one dialogue

(first of all, like c'mon) furthermore it's the cycle. rook is to solas what solas was to elgar'nan, there are several times in the game, especially the end, where they can see each other in each other. even if you dont see it in a shipping lenses (which you dont have to!) this is a juicy story.

moreover, at the end of the game if rook outwits solas by giving him the fake ritual dagger, solas not only recognizes that he was out played by 'wits alone' he also says that he's met his match. this mimics the several stories of fen'harel who uses his wits, wisdom etc to get out of a situation

(example: the story of fen'harel, andruil and anaris, solas goading them both into fighting each other so he could get out paralleling solas making rook fight the gods and in addition a thousand other enemies in order to get himself enough time to get out of the fade prison without rook getting ahead of it)

the betrayal too, i don't have much to say that hasn't been said already about the prison switcheroo, (evokes solas's betrayal of felassan yada yada) other then it's really tasty.
