the amount of people who see something on the internet and just straight up believe it without any further thought is utterly shocking and terrifying.

like, for example, i could comment on some random video, “you know agatha all along is actually homophobic,” and somebody who has NEVER WATCHED A MINUTE OF A MARVEL SHOW and someone would guaranteed, 1000%, comment “you know i’ve never even seen this show but i can’t believe they would be homophobic in this day and age,” and im not even exaggerating.

i just saw a post on shows that swivel the plot completely out of spite once they realize that their audience is women when they wanted it to be men, and someone mentioned 5 seconds of summer. another person agreed, basically saying, “i haven’t heard any of their music, but back in 2014 they were riding the coattails of one direction pretty hard, so i can’t believe they would do that.”

please. stop. talking. 5 seconds of summer are nothing but 1000000% thankful for their female fans. hoping that their fanbase will extend to people who aren’t women is not a weird desire to have, because obviously any artist wants support from as many people as possible, that doesn’t mean they hate the audience they have. 5sos has never done anything to spite their female audience, in fact, they actively support us! for every tour they have, they have a band that is either all female or that has female led vocalists because they know that there are teenage girls and young women at their shows and want them to feel inspired. they have said numerous times that they are nothing but completely grateful for their fans. they are one of the few bands i’ve found that has such an incredibly deep bond with their listeners, and saying that they wished more guys listened to their music does not mean they have changed how they make music to get a more male audience. in fact, they’ve gotten MORE pop as of late, a genre that commonly has female listeners. also worth noting that opening for an artist does not mean they were “riding the coattails” of one direction, they literally just opened for them and got more fans because of it. which is like. the entire point of an opening act. like that is the entire point, of course they have similar fans to one direction. hello.

okay, i kind of went on a rant their because it just pissed me off, but the point is, if you don’t know anything about a topic, you don’t have to comment on it. if you haven’t heard of a band in 10 years, and you haven’t heard any of their music, and you don’t know anything about their members outside of what some rando online has commented which may or may not be true, YOU DONT HAVE TO SAY ANYTHING. DO A GOOGLE SEARCH. FIND A FAN ACCOUNT AND ASK THEM. ANYTHING. JUST BE NORMAL, PLEASE.

As much as I LOVE the 3rd episode of the second season, I have an issue and it's been eating away at me.

Ches's drug addiction.

Back in the 80s, drugs were a HUGE deal for bands, especially rock bands and it seemed only necessary that it's shown. But you can't just get hooked on drugs and then quit cause you made a promise to your friend. That's just not how it works.

With how deep in he was with drugs, I feel like there needed to be some bigger redemption. He was an addict. That doesn't just go away overnight. Just because Ches dumped his drugs (or at least attempted to) doesn't mean he would've gotten clean just like that. Making a promise to your friend doesn't mean you can snap your fingers and voila, you're drug free.

I wish that's how it worked, but it's not.

With that being said, that's not the only issue I have here:

Ches screwed over his BEST friend. Glam lost out on his biggest dream because he decided to stay behind for Ches, and neither of them ever actually discussed it. Ches woke up, and it was just... let's get back to it. I know a guy, and we can do our own thing.

Sure, Ches called that guy, and they were supposed to become their own band, but it never happened. Granted, we don't know that full story yet. Just know that Glam ditched out on the guy to follow Vickie around.

Like, I guess in the end they both screwed each other, but it just urks me.

if you’re ever in the position to choose between giving up and accepting defeat, and actually trying to fight the ancient unkillable god that is about to peel apart reality like a string cheese, remember this: scientifically speaking, you might as well give it a shot!

1.there were trees at the beginning of the world! there were trees so long ago that they predate bacteria that causes wood to decay. when a tree fell, it would lie there in stasis and there wasn’t any way of breaking down wood xylem on a molecular level in that way.

2. it seems obvious to say, but wood eating bacteria are literally incapable of comprehending what they’re breaking down. It’s just not information conciously available to a microorganism. they don’t know what they’re deconstructing, where it came from, bacteria have no way to even fathom the existence of a tree as a concept.

3. Regardless of the facts above, the world we live in today is a world where wood inevitably decomposes

it is worth fighting the unkillable god no matter how pointless it seems. it is worth taking the risk even though youre trying to accomplish something impossible. the reality in which you live was also once reality in which trees didn’t rot. You live in a reality that allows for existence before the possibility of destruction. you live in a reality where uncomprehending microbes break down matter that is so far beyond the scope of their comprehension that it feels comical to specify something so obvious. you live in a reality that occasionally allows unshakeable physical truths to be altered with no warning.

It is worth fighting the unkillable god because trees are so old they predate the source of their destruction, and it still did not spare them. It is worth fighting the unkillable god because bacteria rots unthinkingly, because there is room in our cosmos for destruction without comprehension on the part of the destroyer. It is worth fighting the unkillable god because now and then reality retracts the promise of immortality without fanfare, and when that happens there is no mercy for the ancient. the unmaking is not softer for the desecrators ignorance. for all things, existence is endless until the exact point where it ends.

so you might as well try to kill the unkillable god. it doesn’t seem likely, but at the beginning of the world, trees didn’t rot. so you never know! you never know

Hi! Former Art Teacher here!

All art has value! It is not necessarily monetary value. However, that does not mean the work that has been created isn’t valuable. Not only is there an emotional connection to this work (or any work created) but it takes a lot of work to create.

The control of an apparatus to manipulate material is very difficult. A paint brush, an embroidery needle, a computer mouse… it doesn’t matter what it is, humans have to control it all the same. This requires fine and gross motor skills (fingers, wrists, elbows, shoulders, and sometimes toes, feet, knees, hips dependent on the artist). Not only is this tool held it has to be moved across another surface, which may or may not be smooth and easy to move across. Even abstract artists control their movements. Even Jackson Pollock. The less control there is of the materials the harder it is because then the materials just do what they want! They don’t care if the artist wants something different!

Which brings us to the mental fortitude it takes to be creative. Artists must adjust their focus as they work to accommodate the material. Many people can relate to accidentally having colored outside the lines and then either 1) giving up and starting again or 2) making use of the mistake and forcing it to be intentional. (I have additional thoughts about “coloring outside the lines” but that is out of the scope as this post.) This type of mental gymnastics, accepting a mistake and learning to live with it, is very difficult even for adults! However, after enough exposure and support it builds resilience and confidence.

These are qualities we should strive to have, and creating art is a big way to gain these skills. The world needs empathetic individuals who can see a challenge, come up with contingency plans, and then follow through even if it’s hard. This does not mean that we should expect people to stick with something when it’s bad or dangerous! It means we should allow the people to make the decision that if something isn’t going how they expected to change! Adapting is a huge part of the human experience and art helps drive that!

Art gives us a snapshot into someone else’s lived-experience. We can relate to visual artwork just as we can relate to a Taylor Swift song (which is also a form of art!). Art breeds connection which is, arguably, the cornerstone of humanity. We can look upon cave paintings from tens of thousands of years ago and see ourselves, our animals, our Earth. Art can bridge across the divide of generations, races, and history and remind us that we are all human.

And if you’ve read this far and are still not convinced that either 1) you’re creative or 2) you’ve ever found a connection with a creative endeavor it is simply because you have not found your niche yet. Anyone can create. That can be words, music, ceramics, painting, drawing, sculpting, fiber. I was always very intentional in exposing students to as many art forms and materials as possible because everyone has something they connect with. It may be basket weaving, it may be sculpting from recycled materials… it doesn’t matter, the niche exists. (Sometimes this means that there are materials used that society finds questionable such as urine or menstrual blood! That’s okay! If you look at that and “don’t get it” or find it “crude” that means that particular niche the artist has found is not your niche.)

If you are one of the individuals who say “I can’t draw a straight line”, well, stop doing that then. Have you tried to roll a piece of playdough into a snake? Or build something out of lego? Or sorted tree leaves by color into a circle? There are so many ways to create art! Do not feel forced into a niche that isn’t yours!

Art, or the process of it, is worth so much more than the monetary value someone assigns to it. Please don’t dilute its importance.

i think it's extremely fun to pair rook and solas together in any regard, no matter if he previously was being romanced because as clear narrative foils, having an enemies to lovers (and in tandem, bitch4bitch, hater x hater) dynamic feeds into that delicious 'whenever I see you I see myself and I hate that' and 'you are everything I hate about myself' soup.

I once saw a post with a collection of quotes that had this certain vibe, in the 'you and I are the same' (negative) way. if i had a quote to represent them it would be:

(first of all, like c'mon) furthermore it's the cycle. rook is to solas what solas was to elgar'nan, there are several times in the game, especially the end, where they can see each other in each other. even if you dont see it in a shipping lenses (which you dont have to!) this is a juicy story.

moreover, at the end of the game if rook outwits solas by giving him the fake ritual dagger, solas not only recognizes that he was out played by 'wits alone' he also says that he's met his match. this mimics the several stories of fen'harel who uses his wits, wisdom etc to get out of a situation

(example: the story of fen'harel, andruil and anaris, solas goading them both into fighting each other so he could get out paralleling solas making rook fight the gods and in addition a thousand other enemies in order to get himself enough time to get out of the fade prison without rook getting ahead of it)

the betrayal too, i don't have much to say that hasn't been said already about the prison switcheroo, (evokes solas's betrayal of felassan yada yada) other then it's really tasty.

?? So. We saying just jumping into JRPGs in general or specific series? Because if we talking in general then we hand them Pokemon. Next. I personally would actually recommend a couple indie “JRPGs”. (I put that in quotes because I consider JRPG inspired western made RPGs to be JRPGs but some might not). These indie RPGs I would recommend would be simple quick ones that should run you under 15 maybe 20 hours of game time and they should be very cheap off of steam (my personal suggestion here is anything from ZeBoyd Games, like Cthulhu Saves the World). After that I would look and see what is currently out there. We are currently swimming in plenty of remakes and remasters of so many JRPGs. Though. If they are looking into a specific series, I would gush about my favorite in that series while helping them to look into what is currently out and accessible. And then do research with them into what would fit.

As a lover of JRPGs you have to be very aware of the many different levels of access different JRPG series have. Some are more accessible and simple than others. Some are very complicated and long. When looking for a JRPG to play you really got to fine tune it to what you want and what you would enjoy. I mean. Even figuring in the amount of grind you want is important when looking for a game. Some people love to grind. Some people want to control how much they can grind and some want very little grinding. You can’t just hand someone some little known RPG from the 90s without knowing how much grind the person would be okay with.

whenever you ask your friend who’s really into JRPGs “hey which one do i start with is the newest one fine” they always go “no, what you gotta do is head on over to ebay and look up the entry that completely bombed commercially.
