Labour's business charm offensive continued last week, as Keir Starmer proudly posted that he had met with David Zaslav, CEO of Warner Bros Discovery, aiming to "work in partnership with the creative industries to drive growth".

Named by the New York Times as the man who "blew up Hollywood", Zaslav in fact seems to be doing everything he can to prevent growth in the industry. Having merged hi cable TV company, Discovery with entertainment conglomerate Warner Bros in 2022, Zaslav took on $56bn in debt and enacted cost cuts of £3bn.

To achieve this he set about binning TV shows and films that had already been completed in order to claim large tax write-offs - most notoriously superhero caper Batgirl - and removing shows from streaming services to avoid paying residuals fees.

In a move that might have had more appeal for St

armer, Zaslov also hired Chris Licht as CEO of CNN in 2022 to make the news service more appealing to conservative viewers - but then fired him within a year after ratings hit rock bottom. Under Zaslav's watch, the stock price of Warner Bros Discovery Inc has fallen by nearly 60% - probably not quite the growth Starmer would hope to discover!

To address your second point: I wish I knew more about Keir Starmer! I'm in the US so I only know tangentially about him. You would think someone would have vetted the situation a bit more though (although you know Zaslav has been a bit of a sneaky little fucker about everything until he was outed more recently). Sorry I don't have much to say on that point!

To address your third point:

Yeahhhhhh, my hope is that it won't affect OFMD too much because it's a bit more of it's own thing (and not a WB proprety like the Coyote movie). I think they could actually make money selling S1 and S2 as opposed to loss since there's such a demand for it, so personally I don't think it's going to be much of an issue, but I have no real authority or reason to believe that except common sense (which we all know hollywood doesn't always have).

@fuckyeahisawthat had a good take though, it's kind of anything goes unfortunately.

I have faith though... because like a lot of my tumblr colleagues have said, David Jenkins would have probably told us by now if in fact, there was literally no hope. He's been pretty good about putting out hints and letting us know where to focus our efforts, and as of yet he hasn't flat out said "Thanks anyway guys, but its not going to happen.

That in itself gives me hope for s1, s2 and s3.

Even putting her somewhat... neotenous features aside, the whole free will removal kinda makes the idea of sex with her pretty unethical at best.

Ok, ok, I acknowledge this one is kind of a stretch as those two are separate entities and the Formortiis you fight is NOT in the shell of Lyon but like. Give me a break. I know you horny fuckers want Formortiis to become intimate with your intestines. I'm terribly sorry this stupid post isn't for you.

VERDICT: Let's be real. Unless you're Eirika or Ephraim (or willing to put on some cosplay) he won't be bringing his A-game. If you are, though... oooh. Boy. The emotion would run high. There would be crying. I'll leave it up to you as to whether this is a plus or minus.

ASHNARD (FE9)

Unlike some other options on this list, it is at least 100% proven that he has had sex, if only as a means to an end. I honestly doubt whether he would fuck for any other reason to be honest

VERDICT: If, for some reason, being used as a genetic experiment isn't a turn off, he's absolutely going to ask if he can turn a family member of yours into a mindless war beast, probably immediately after the sex. If for some reason this still isn't a turn off, uhhhhh I hope y'all are happy together.

ASHERA (FE10)

While I could imagine most of the other characters in this list being open to the idea of sex, I really couldn't see Ashera being DTF. But...

VERDICT: She's hot in a scary Drakengard way, so I'd say it's worth at least shooting your shot. She'd probably turn you to stone, but that's the risk you take for love.

ROBIN (As possessed by GRIMA) (FE13)

Fell Robin is a great example of the effects of evil on human attractiveness. On their own, Robin is human tofu. They are a perfect 5/10. Being possessed raises their score to at least 6/10.

VERDICT: 6/10 is better than average. Why not.

TAKUMI (FE14)

As far as I know, he doesn't have an official age, but I see this character and I think "that's baby"

VERDICT: All I want to do is give him butterscotch candies and ask him how he's doing in school.

GARON (FE14)

Like Ashnard, at least you can say he definitely fucked. Quite a bit, considering the excess of children he has (discounting his propensity for picking them up off the streets) So, uh, he's got one thing going for him?

VERDICT: One certainly can't say he's slacking on the gym routine but... zombie. Does he smell? Ew.

EDELGARD (FE16)

It's everyone favorite problematic waifu! What is there to say about her that hasn't been said before.

VERDICT: No, I mean really. Uh... if you like her I said she was stinky and if you hate her Edelgard come step on me uwu. Everyone can be mad at me. It's fun for the whole family.

RHEA (FE16)

Rhea is a scary, scary woman and fucking her would ruin your life

VERDICT: Rhea can totally get it.

SOMBRON (FE17)

Like Garon, Sombron canonically fucks. A LOT. This does not mean he's necessarily any good at it, mind, but he's got to at least... know... stuff, right? He was able to turn the yaoification beam on Hyacinth so he's clearly not completely lacking in sexual appeal. He will NOT wear a condom tho, although who on this list would?

VERDICT: I feel like you'd need to have some very specific fetishes for this to be a good idea, but if you do... have fun?

I'm sorry to keep adding to your no doubt overflowing inbox about this, but I genuinely don't really have anywhere else to vent abt this stuff (mostly because I'm worried I'll get roped into it if I post about it on my blog, and I've done well enough so far at staying firmly out of it).

All this drama, all the absolutely buckwild shit that's happened over the past couple weeks, has just. Soured me. I write for this fandom. I love writing for this fandom. But now, every time I write something that gets over a certain amount of notes, I get antsy. I'm so scared of accidentally doing/saying anything out of line or anything that can be interpreted in a bad light later (I mean hell, I've deleted and rewritten this message probably five times now, and I'm on Anon). It truly scares me how easily this fandom in particular seems to be able to form mob mentalities.

I do appreciate you (along with Early) bringing to light the amount of discrepancies and inaccuracies regarding what happened. Without all the evidence you two have compiled, I probably would have continued believing the original reported events at face value. I'm not sure why. Maybe just because I didn't want to believe someone would fake their own goddamn death like this. I don't know.

Anyway. I'm not sure what I was going for with this message. If you've gotten this far, I appreciate you. Hopefully all this can settle down soon, though it's a damn tragedy so many bright minds in this fandom have already been driven off because of it.

the fucked up thing is that fake suicides happen a LOT in tumblr fandoms. like, every single fandom has a case. but the burden of proof is on the accuser, and i have never seen an account prove that these anonymous users actually harmed themselves. it’s most likely that they stepped away from their original account and have made a new one to lurk and watch the fallout, because these dickheads are self-absorbed and want to see the drama they can create.

fingers crossed everyone learns to block and move on, and to de-platform the users that make a habit of bullying.

6) What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?...This is hard cause most of my fics are unfinished as of right now but.... I think Lacuna for posted but unfinished fics and uh. two of my so far unposted BG3 fics will take the running once they get posted.

I also am not a super big fan of this question cause sometime a fic needs years to crystalize into what its supposed to be and we're all doing this for fun/for free... sooooooo you get what you get, and WIPs aren't worth less to the fandom just because they're incomplete.

17) What are your writing weaknesses? Anything resembling a consistent writing or posting schedule.

18) Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? You ask this as if I didn't do a ton of research and base my own knowledge of linguistics to write semi-coherent lingurian in Lingua Franca. If I feel I can pull it off to some degree and it adds to the story? oh hell yes. It's also one of my favorite literary devices in fic and in shows (I'm looking at you Shogun 2024, you beautiful beautiful tv show on the intrigue of translation)

19) First fandom you wrote for? uhhhh. Naruto on like, fanfic.net for the super old stuff. The hobbit for my modern era lmao.

20) Favorite fic you’ve written? I don't have a favorite, I think? My brain just kind of demands I make up stories and like, I am a happier person having made up stories so I do that. Each story has something I absolutely adore about it that I needed to explore but none of them are my absolute favorite above the others.

I think I need to scream into the void a little.

It might get heavy so skip this if you are sensitive to topics of abuse, disability and whatnot.

I'm trapped. Trapped in an abusive house, and there's nothing I can do about it.

I have autism, ADHD, and a worsening anxiety. I also have something I like to call "shotgun brain" where my head fires off lots of little thoughts. Only some will hit this post, and ones that should have will whizz into the dark, even when it was probably important. That's why I'm lucky if anything I say is coherent.

I'm worse in real life. I constantly lose speech. I am not able to even write fast. I mull over what I want to say. Even simple compliments might take an hour to form.

My birthgiver likes to tell me I'm not disabled and shame me over it, even though some days are so bad, I need to walk with a cane. That's barely enough really. I honestly sometimes need crutches, but she throws a fit with just the cane, so what can you do? She is trying to get me on disability, not because she believes I actually am, but because she wants to reap the money from it. She told me that herself, to my face. My birthgiver wanted a human worker rather than a child.

I'm unemployed. Being someone who can barely talk and walk sometimes tends to be a barrier in the hellscape that is capitalism. I also just can't stand department stores. The buzzing florescent lights, hard floors, constant noises is hell on my senses. I just get so dizzy being in there. Gods, I can't handle an hour being in bloody Walmart.

Of course, my family doesn't know I'm trans. I have no doubt they would actually try to kill me if they found out I am. I'm so exhausted of hiding who I am, but I have to if I want to survive.

I don't really take care of myself. Can't remember to, a lot of the times. I learned recently it's an experience a lot of trans people have, before they come out/get on HRT.

I want to get on HRT, but I don't think I'll ever be able to. I live in a rural area, far away from civilization. Everything is just fucked. Can't find a doctor for my disability, much less my transness.

I just curl in on myself, the only thing I've got is my art, it's my escape, and Tumblr and AI scalpers want to rip that from me as well. It's a bad joke.

Honestly, I don't know what to do. I'm so tired of fighting, every day is a fight.

Hello all beings from Tumblr! I am Naty. I am 18 years old as of the date I am writing this. My pronouns are they/she, plus a list of neos I've yet to decide on... I am Brazilian, therefore English isn't my first language. I identify as a transgender non-binary xenogender person! (if you do not know what xenogender is, click here.) I have created this blog mainly to interact with the Pop-Culture Pagan community that seemingly resides mainly in this site, as well as witches and pagans in general. I am a Poképagan, which means I am a Pagan that believes Pokémon spirits/deities exist in this world and we are available to work with them as spirits/deities in a pagan context. For example, at this moment I work with The Creation Trio (Arceus, Dialga and Palkia), Jirachi, Solgaleo, and soon Xerneas. I have an altar set for the five and I will add Xerneas as well to the altar whenever I have stuff for her. My Pokémon altar is made of the cards of said pokémon, dolls/figures of said pokémon, and crystals. For example, for Arceus I gave a Jade/Jadeite, inspired by the movie "Arceus and The Jewel of Life" where the Jewel of Life is, well, a Jade (at least as far as I can remember). Don't think I'll post pictures of my altar immediately in here, if i do... I'm just a bit scared bad stuff will be sent my way, I apologize :,) I am very much a baby witch, as well as in the broom closet. I am able to light some incense and do some stuff with candles from time to time, as well as some simple protection spells, but nothing else, pretty much. I would love to change that sometime though! I am very interested in tarot, even owning a pokémon themed tarot deck I bought from Etsy! I brushed it off telling my parents they were just normal pokémon cards. They don't seem to mind my altar either. So, I'm alright! Hehe Now, for non-spiritual stuff: I love to draw and listen to music! I am a furry artist and I've been in the fandom for around 9 years. My favorite music genres are J-Core, Speedcore, Drum n Bass, EDM, Vaporwave, etc. Basically just electronic music. I also really love anime, my favorite genre is magical girls/mahou shoujo! My favorites are Cardcaptor Sakura and the Precure franchise. My favorite Precure Seasons are Go! Princess, Mahou Tsukai, Smile, and Tropical Rouge. Something I should also mention is that I am a system and otherkin. I am a disordered system (OSDD-1a). Other mental stuff i have going on is autism, ADHD and BPD, so please do be patient with me! As for my otherkind (is that the correct conjugation? hehe) I am fictionkin and a therian. I have a ton of fictotypes, but my theriotype is a golden tiger. I can't remember the exact kind of tiger, but it's probably a siberian one. I will use singular and plural pronouns exchangeably, so do not correct me, please. For the serious stuff: DNI if syscourse participant, anti otherkin/therian, basic DNI (can't think of anything else to put in here... if in doubt, ask). I am planning on using this blog for digital altar stuff, as in reblog/post things of the pokémon deities i work with such as images/gifs, prayers, offerings, etc. Although if I don't post for a long time, don't worry! I simply forgot to post or don't have any energy to, and it snowballs until i completely forget about this app- but please don't worry! ... HOPE PLEASE TALK ABOUT P5R I need to know how you feel about akechi at the end yudkdkfk and I'd also just love to hear your thoughts about the game and the characters in general! also, just to make sure, do you know what you need to do to unlock the extra content at the end of the game? otherwise you might miss it.

WAIT WAIT I was answering your other ask and I never saw this one. what. tumblr straight up did not send me an ask notification 😭

CELE AND I DID ACTUALLY FINISH P5R A FEW WEEKS AGO AND I HAVE SO MANY THOUGHTS, we unlocked all the extra content too, so no worries. somehow on a first try we managed to do most things: every Mementos request, all of the confidants with some free time to spare, and about 80% of the compendium. it'll be hard to put all my thoughts in one post but I'll try and just touch on the main parts!

first of all. Akechi. lmao. I definitely went in expecting to like him, since I've had a lot of mutuals who were very big into shuake from the time I've been into saiou and v3 (I guess they're ship-in-laws of a sort). I wasn't disappointed, because I did like Akechi quite a lot by the end, but I was a bit surprised that he didn't quite give me brainworms the way I expected him to.

if I had to give a character ranking, I think Sumire would be my top fave, followed by Maruki, and then Yusuke. Akechi probably comes right after him, and then I have a harder time ranking the rest (it's probably either Ann or Haru though).

I'm really, really glad we played Royal bc I cannot imagine only playing the original and being satisfied with that. especially when the Shido parts were so frustrating and had some of the weaker writing compared to the rest of the game. the 3rd semester was just such a better way to wrap things up and did a world of good for Akechi's character and fleshing him out a bit.

I really do find the relationship between Akechi and the MC so interesting. like, while I don't think Akechi will ever be quite as high up on my list of characters the way someone like Ouma is, I do think he shines best when it's as a foil for the protagonist. all of that resentment and feeling like things could have been so different if only he'd had the same opportunities or friendships, the whole "two sides of the same coin" thing, I LOVE that sort of thing in my ships. I also really wound up attached to the idea of the royal trio as an ot3 where Sumire and Akechi both just share the MC most of the time, lmao.

everything with the 3rd semester bad ending... I love it so much, those kind of "ideal worlds where something is actually very off and unsatisfying" is right up my alley. I kind of wish the game had gone even further with making the rest of the phantom thieves resist leaving Maruki's world and even getting mad at being told to doubt their own happiness, which was something they apparently touched on in some of the discarded voice files, but then they sadly cut them out and everyone came around pretty easily :(

the main reason I put Yusuke in my top 3 earlier I think is bc he actually gave me more of what I was initially looking for in Akechi's relationship with Shido, but with Madarame instead. I really was expecting the game to touch a lot more on Shido manipulating Akechi or essentially forcing him to become an assassin, you know, really focusing on the whole "kids trapped in their role in society by rotten adults" theme that is so crucial in the game, but there really wasn't... much of that? Shido didn't even know Akechi was his son (other than maybe some suspicions according to his cognitive self, but those didn't ever amount to anything so it's kind of the same) so he barely ever interacted with him outside of an employer-employee context. and Akechi was the one to actually approach him with the idea of murdering people in the Metaverse, so it's like... fkskjdjs agh, everything with Shido just really does frustrate me, I feel like he's got such weak writing but he's also impossible to ignore bc he's such an important part of the game.

meanwhile Yusuke and Madarame's relationship was such a more believably complex picture of abuse and manipulation (it reminded me a lot of Bede and Rose from swsh, lmao). I was actually really shocked at how well everything about the Madarame arc aged; usually Persona games have a few parts of them that don't age well at all, but it was totally the opposite here.

I had kind of gone through the early parts of the game back when it first came out without finishing the whole thing, but I remember thinking at the time that the whole Madarame plagiarism thing felt heavy-handed and too on-the-nose. now, living in an era where topics like art theft and plagiarism and art as nothing more than a soulless means of spitting out money is more relevant than it was 7 years ago... yeah, the Madarame arc just felt surprisingly relevant overall, and Yusuke's conflicting feelings of love and obligation vs. his growing awareness that he's being taken advantage of and seen as a tool was just the icing on top. also his autistic swag. I love him.

as for Sumire and Maruki—the game is so much better for them being in it. Sumire has one of the strongest arcs in any of the 3 "modern" Persona games, not just in 5. I'm usually a firm advocate for "girl they added in the remake game" supremacy (Marie p4g got done so dirty by the fandom and I'll never forgive people, she's a good character), so I was so, so happy that Sumire had such an interesting backstory and complicated relationship with her sister. her identity issues, her struggle with self-confidence, the way she can empathize the best with Maruki's view of the world bc she has also wished to just bury her head in the sand and run away. I love her.

meanwhile Maruki truly is the game's saving grace as an antagonist. Shido was god-awful and Yaldabaoth was, hmm... fine but not quite as interesting or compelling as either Nyx Avatar or (redacted p4 antagonist names bc I don't know if you've played p4 yet), but Maruki wipes the floor with all the other p5 antagonists. his tragic motivations, his fucked-up "I know best" attitude that dismisses human free will and autonomy, I love it. I think something about Maruki altered me and Cele's brains forever, lmao. also the choice to have him as yet another foil to the MC, from their designs (glasses, messy hair, sort of slouched/nondescript posture) to their inability to leave someone in trouble alone without helping them... it's just so interesting. I love you Takuto Maruki you messed-up man with a savior complex.

ANYWAY these were most of my thoughts 😭 I could go on and on even more but I've already rambled a lot! I'm still so mad Tumblr never sent me the message notif for this, I just looked back at my inbox after answering the other one and I was like. WHAT. at some point I really should talk about all my thoughts on the other main phantom thieves too but there are so many of them and I've already written so much fksjsksjsj

Forgive me if I’ve asked you this before but what’s your favorite headcanon about each of the tts gang?

First off, apologies for taking so long to answer! I don't have a cool excuse I just saw it while out, though I'd remember to answer later and... didn't.

But super cool question so let's get into it!

Rapunzel

For Rapunzel, I surprisingly can't think of too much, I'm sure I'll think of a million things after pressing post, but I'm going with one I included in a recent chapter because I think it's adorable:

The flowers in Rapunzel's hair are picked from the garden every morning by Eugene for her.

Eugene would pick flowers for her early on because, you give flowers to your girlfriend, Rapunzel would accept the little bucket with a smile, but not knowing to put them in a vase like any normal girl she'd go straight to the mirror and add them to her hair. A constant reminder of Eugene.

And he'd of course pick her fresh one's every single morning because if his girlfriend wants flowers in her hair she's going to have the very best.

Eugene

My fave is one you've probably all seen but will forever warm my heart. It was by guiltyhipster and @dannybird22 on tumblr though the first, I looked it up and they don't seem to have a blog anymore.

In fact, because it only seems to be around in image form, it took me a while to find but here it is:

It's so sweet.

And the idea that neither remember and it's just a coincidence would make it all the sweeter in my mind!

(I also headcanon in my fics Eugene didn't stay put in one kingdom's orphanage and kept running away and ending up in new ones so that would allow for this to be possible still).

Cassandra

There are so many good headcanons with Cass because there is so much left unsaid about her (who's her dad? why did Gothel have a kid? How did she get Owl?). Choosing just one, choosing a favourite is very hard.

But my fave headcanon (which is huge spoilers for many of my fics because I use and reuse it a lot, but I won't be saying which fics because a few have other ideas) is that she's at least half magic.

Let me explain, we know she's Gothel's daughter. But Gothel is literally pure sundrop magic at this point, that's why she dies when Rap's hair gets cut. So any child produces by Gothel is unlikely fully human.

I don't think she can use these powers in the way Raps does, I think it just kinda sits in her blood completely inactive.

This also explains why she can grab and use the moonstone magic without it trying to kill her.

Lance

That the day he got caught and sent to prison he sacrificed himself so Eugene could escape (probably without Eugene realizing that what he'd done), because Lance is the bestest big brother ever and for as many jokes as he makes I just know he'd do anything to protect his friends/family and their happiness.

Where does the tts gang end....? I'm just gonna keep going... sorry?

Arianna

Probably my fave characters!

She's a huge animal lover. Before Frederic she kept a bunch of pets but when she became queen and didn't have the time to give them the attention they deserved, she stopped getting new pets.

I mean she has two dogs a horse and a bird in her royal portrait!

She's also clearly into weapons as she has several (something I definitely dig into deep later in my fic).

Frederic

I think Frederic was probably raised in "royal isolation", that is to say, he had tutors and teachers preparing him for his future duty, there were servants and such, but he didn't really get to hang out with other kids his age, because of that he sometimes struggled with understanding other's emotions and comes of as awkward at times.

Captain of the Guard

So, in Eugene vs Cassandra, I was always really struck by Cass' explanation of how Cap raised her, specifically the line: "how to earn my keep". I don't doubt Cap loved her, but I do believe growing up with the Captain as her father was more discipline than nurturing. Especially because of where she came from.

I think Cap probably wouldn't let her get away with bad behaviour or attitude, not because he wanted to be strict or pushy, but because he was scared of the king and queen and how people would treat the daughter of the princess' kidnapper.

I think he did what he thought was best for her. But I think ultimately it backfired.

I could probably go on with every single character who ever made an appearance but, I've been writing for a while now, so hope you enjoy some of these!

Back to video games!

I love the steam recaps, both mine and looking at all my friends’ but I’ll just post mine here.

I don’t even remember playing Dishonored this year. I still have the weird desire to 100% it even though I only have the challenge-mode stuff left and of those I only have four left. I’m so freaking close. But I also haven’t touched the game in close to a year. Argh.

That spider-graph underestimates my ability to turn any game into a stealth game. I’m not sure what the game from this year was that’s counting as 3% I think Plate Up! was released last year and I’m doubting Destiny 2 counts even if it is an ongoing game so I assume that must be for the Touchstarved Demo. I do kind of wonder if I’ll ever have a high percentage for new releases just because it takes me forever to get to anything. Releases from the last 1-7 years was 11%, and releases from longer ago was 86% but that will be because I played a lot of short games from the 90’s and 00’s.

Just like my reading my gaming dropped off during the summer. It’s so hard to make time for things how do people do it. I find a physical hobby to do and it just consumes all of my time and energy and brain power.

There’s all the games. I didn’t count anything I spent a very small amount of time on in my personal count. Things like the HE activity packs or mini-games where I played for 5, maybe 10, minutes and stopped. Shockingly mini-games meant to entertain six year olds in the 90’s are not very compelling to a 30 year old in 2023 (though some were very graphically/artistically impressive which was more fascinating and engaging than the mini-games themselves). The actual point-and-click games all hold up surprisingly well. There’s some things that are a little aggravating like Freddi fish’s friend, Luther, makes just the worst jokes. I think so far I’ve been liking Pajama Sam and Putt-Putt the best. We’re done Spy Fox now and I think we still have a few Putt-Putt games left and one or two Freddi Fish games and Pajama Sam games.

I had the farm Buzzy game growing up (which is so strange seeing as I lived on a farm, why did my parents get me that) but not any others and the airport one is wild, genuinely very educational and it’s impressive how much stuff they crammed in there. We haven’t played any recently, though. Also all of Steam’s tags are liars, I did not first play these games in 2023, I first played all these HE games in like, 1998 or something, on an old machine I can still picture in my mind but have no way to look up. I don’t even remember what make it was.

(I asked my dad, because he used to take pictures of everything growing up, but shockingly he appears to have primarily taken photos of me and my sister doing things and not just pictures of random objects around the house. Strange. He did say it was probably a custom computer that had been built for his company so we even went through old company photos but, again, no photos of just people at their desks or their desk set-ups. Through this process I realized the computer I’m currently using is my third desktop, ever. Maybe that’s not that wild but for a device I use almost every day of my life it feels weird for it to “only” be the third one. In my lifetime there’s, so far, been 5 generations of playstations so I feel like I’m doing pretty good on the turnover rate for desktop computers. Here’s a doodle of what I think my first desktop computer looked like:

I can remember the overall shape of it but the details are foggy now. Its name was PC 11, though, because that’s what it was called at his workplace. The real kicker is I probably used to have a photo of it, but I lost all my old photos when my back-up drive gave out on me and I, foolishly, only had my photos on my back-up drive because my computer didn’t have room for them. I’m going to see if my sister, who is younger than me, somehow, magically, has any photos of this thing. Anyway back to video games.)

Donut County was an absolute delight. I think that’s the only other game on there I haven’t talked about at all and it was just a really good time. Cute story and very satisfying gameplay, I had a great time playing it.

We also revisited a series Steph and I played in or just after Highschool which was really fun to revisit with friends.

The Chzo series stands up surprisingly well. I don’t think I’d recommend them for a newcomer but for something I played forever ago (I don’t think I ever beat the series but I know I played the first two) I’m surprised at how well it held up and it was fun to re-experience with friends. There’s some very questionable plot elements and some unfortunate word choices which is why I won’t recommend them but it’s super impressive that one guy just… made these. It’s genuinely very cool and impressive.

Sony is apparently also doing a year in review or “wrap up” this year for the first time ever, I was kind of hoping it would include PS3 data somehow. It didn’t. So this is all I get:

I do really like the graphics they have on everything, too bad my poor PS4 was basically neglected so those graphics are wasted on my dismal play-stats.

They just look really nice. I do think it’s interesting that Sony’s approach to this outright feels a little more cynical and like it rolled out of the marketing department than other wrap-ups. They throw in a little “look at all these cool games you could be playing with playstation plus” and then of course…

Did you know?? You can buy a PS5?? Did you know?? Come buy one. :)

Anyway.

That’s about all I played this year, so I can move on.

To my other hobbies, of which I have about seventeen billion. As I mentioned last year: I was really into reshelling stuff until I ran out of stuff to reshell. So I did reshell one controller this year. One of my Switch procontrollers I wasn’t super happy with, so I changed it to look like the joycons I did for my step-brother and I’m much happier with it:

I also got a bunch of cute thumbgrips for all my modern Nintendo controllers. I’ve never liked add-on thumb grips much but for whatever reason I don’t find the current generation of Nintendo controllers to have comfortable analogue sticks so having cute pads is elevating my Nintendo experience both aesthetically and physically.

And then I realized people sell shells for Gameboys so decided to do the GBAs from my childhood (I don’t know how I wound up with two, and one was my sister’s):

The hinges were so hard to get back in right, different guides said to do different things and they were all wrong. Luckily I had six hinges to get there on so by the time I got to the one with the nicest screen I had it figured out but the Pikachu one has squishy unsatisfying hinges now (and the hinges are so hard to get back out I’m not going to bother fixing it). And some of the batteries were getting puffy so I replaced them (which was maybe silly since these aren’t going to be played often but oh well).

I really love the aesthetics of a clear-case on a GBA. There is just SO much crammed in there it really tickles my brain. Any motherboard looks pretty dense but these are particularly dense in a way that looks visually distinct than even something like the 3DS (picture further down) because there’s so little real estate for them to get everything in there. I know people really like clear cases in general (and I am also a fan) but it hits extra good on something like this where there is just so much to see.

I have continued repairing people’s Nintendo Switches from fans to joycon drift. I still like fixing things whenever I can (I just fixed a kettle a few days ago which I fully did not expect to be able to fix) and one of the major things that needed fixing this year was CurseBreaker, the computer I built at the end of 2020.

My poor computer. Toward the end of 2022 I wanted to try a liquid cooler (which they call an AIO) instead of the stock fan, there was literally no reason to do this except for the thrill of it (AMD’s stock coolers are very good, or at least mine was) and CPUs were on major sale at the time so I figured if I’m messing around I might as well update my CPU, too. About a month later my computer started crashing randomly. Completely randomly, and it wouldn’t fully crash it would kind of “hang” in a really strange way. I could sometimes open programs but task manager would boot but not operate properly, internet connectivity vanished, random programs would freeze, trying to shut down or restart the computer would just have it pinwheel on the shutdown screen forever. Usually I could save whatever I was working on before restarting and sometimes whatever I saved would corrupt. (It also refused to load the windows colour profile on boot, but it still won’t do that, so that is unrelated but I thought it was something at the time.)

I eventually got to the point where I could usually make it crash by watching twitch (specifically twitch did it) while using photoshop. But it wouldn’t trigger right away, and sometimes it wouldn’t trigger at all, but it did it much more often with the twitch and photoshop combo than with anything else. I started writing every time it messed up on a notepad and everything I tried to do to troubleshoot. I was in Reliability History every day (a feature of Windows I did not previously know existed), I was in Event Viewer (a very stressful place to go looking in, Windows can and will consider everything an ‘error’: it considers firefox being my default browser an error and I am not kidding). My computer could Not tell me what the heck was up. The crashing started earlier but by the time I realized it was an ongoing problem and not a few weird crashes it was mid-January so I used Reliability History to see the previous two weeks and started writing my notes, I made a timeline, I even tracked the time between crashes in case it was some bizarre clock thing or ticking time bomb (it wasn’t).

My headphone ear pads broke during this and I had to sew them back together because my headphones are weird and suck and don’t have replacements available to buy. Obviously that wasn’t directly related to my computer’s problems but it didn’t help me feel any less cursed since I use those headphones exclusively with my computer. I also expanded my storage during this time which maybe wasn’t the best idea but someone wanted me to try Destiny 2 and I didn’t have space to spare (the storage installed fine, but almost immediately after I had a bunch of crashes/hangs). And then one of my computer case’s USB ports broke???

How??? How!! I am SO careful. I do not understand how or why this happened and I have been around computers my entire life—this is the only time I have EVER seen a USB port break like this. None of the computers in my highschool had broken USB ports! And people jammed USBs in and out of those! This USB port is still broken, I just have a dust plug in it but I might put a sticker over it. It’s technically usable if you bend that pin back out but it gets crammed back in very easily.

Finally, after four months of this, after partially re-installing Windows, and then fully re-installing Windows, after downloading and updating every driver I could find, after trying to unplug various devices to see if a USB device was causing issues, after fighting with Task Scheduler to get the Windows Color System to work, after uninstalling and reinstalling everything I could or straight up uninstalling things I didn’t need that Windows quietly downloads when you’re not looking (Skype just will not leave my machine Windows keeps dragging it back)… I decided to update the BIOS/UEFI on my machine. My CPU was supposed to be compatible with the BIOS version my motherboard was running but I guess it wasn’t actually.

The thing with updating your BIOS is that if your computer has been running for a while it’s generally recommended you don’t update it. Every page you go to, even the page with the motherboard update versions, will tell you to turn back, to not frivolously update your motherboard, you should only update it if you absolutely have to!

They are not clear on what “absolutely having to” means, though. I was having major computer issues, my CPU was supposed to be compatible, but that was the only other thing I could think of that would be causing the issue. I had tried everything else because all the BIOS stuff warns you away from it and there is no list of “if your computer is doing this it might be the motherboard” or at least I couldn’t find one that isn’t vague. So.

On April 24th I updated my BIOS. It was really easy. I have not had a problem since. There is probably a lesson to be learned here about doing the hard, risky-seeming thing earlier in the process—except that they really warn you off of updating the BIOS. I had four months of very stressful and insanity-making troubleshooting, five-and-a-bit months of a computer that would just randomly give up. It sucked. And all because my motherboard company lied, my CPU was definitely not as compatible as they said it was. Despite how much this process sucked I am very pleased that I fixed it. CurseBreaker got CurseBroken. I still put a sticker on her that says she’s cursed, though.

Anyway.

I also learned how to bind books this year! I haven’t done the big-book bindings where you need to sew pages together (and I would like to learn how to do that and how to make hard covers) but I’ve done this simple kind and I really like it. I have ideas for other things I’d like to make into little personal books. I guess I’ll see where it takes me but I made the little yellow book there as a companion piece to a book my sister had me read and it looked so official that when she opened the present she didn’t understand what she was looking at. Graphic design is my passion. Surprisingly easy to do and very fun! I need a better paper slicer, though. I borrowed one for this and it did more ripping than cutting. Most of the hobbies I take on are very satisfying in a tangible way but this is extra satisfying and I’d like to do more of it.

Through the power of friendship I made two booknooks this year (Vin and Steph helped me). The one on the right was more like a puzzle or ikea furniture where it was all clearly labelled and told you where to put what and when. It took the better part of an afternoon but got done in one day. The one on the left was more like building a diorama with little to no real instruction, just a lot of material.

It took several days to assemble and required busting out the hot glue gun. Somehow the makers of this kit expected you to be able to glue plastic pieces and mirrors with white glue. (It definitely worked better than expected on some things but was a mess and meant having to sit there holding pieces together while they cured because if you let go it’d fall apart. The hot glue was necessary to not go insane.) It even makes you put together the wiring yourself, and then has the audacity to not make it clear anywhere what kind of batteries it takes. Overall super happy with how this one came together, I think it looks super cute, but I was not prepared for how hard it would be after the first one.

But now I have two cute little booknooks! I’ve wanted one for years and now I have two and because we built them I also have good memories directly associated with them.

I also finally have a paper koi lantern! I’ve been following the artist, yuumei, since I was a kid—like I followed her when I still used deviantart which was forever ago. I signed up for the mailing list for these who-knows-when and at some point I assumed this project would never reach completion despite how cool it is. People get busy, it is how it is. But then she launched a kickstarter! I backed! And then a kit showed up in the mail!

There’s a really great tutorial video to go with it for assembly. It was really hard at first but once you kind of figure it out it gets a lot easier. The paper is the most gorgeous paper I’ve seen in my life and she looks beautiful when she’s all lit up.

This one feels so weird to finally have. I think I was following the project for at least a decade so it feels surreal for it to be a real thing now. This thing I wanted as a kid/teen that didn’t exist and now does and I still wanted it. It’s also really nice to see that this fully came together for the artist, as well. 1. How many works do you have on AO3?

4. Very shameful... I have many, many fics started, and so many ideas, but I usually lack the energy to finish them, but slowly work on them. And while I do have a couple that are finished, posting them wouldn't make a ton of sense without prior explanation on a lot of things. So it stays in the vault for now.

2. What’s your total AO3 word count?

8,887! I need to publish a fic that's just one word now!

3. What fandoms do you write for?

Primarily Sharpe- but more often I've written for Tolkien, even though I've never published anything publicly to AO3, just tumblr.

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

....I don't want to link the first one bc it's embarrassing, but it has 199 kudos.

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

Absolutely- I try to respond to every one I get. It's very rare I get comments for my fics, especially the Sharpe ones, so I treasure them dearly!

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

This is going to sound terrible, but I usually don't write fics with angsty endings!! I always try and end with at least a silver lining. (And at least for Sharpe fics, canon already is pretty depressing, so I like to write happier things lol). I think it would have to be the one where my dúnedain ranger dies at the Battle of the Morannon, being snatched by a fell beast and dropped from a large height.

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

I think Home. I just love Teresa and Sharpe and Antonia safe and happy and loved 🥺 Though it's been so many years since I wrote it I might have to go back and polish it....

8. Do you get hate on fics?

No, thankfully. But the fear of getting hate is what's prevented me from posting most of my Tolkien ones, I would say.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Yes! I've got one in the works atm that I really like. I'm a sucker for hurt/comfort in general, but honestly, I'm game for any smut. I'm the type of person who writes a 2,000 word blowjob fic thats IMPERATIVE for the character development lmao.

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?

I don't think I've personally written any fics with crossovers before. I guess like 12 years ago I wrote a Resident Evil/Silent Hill crossover but never got far into it...I posted it to LiveJournal lol. Those were the days.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

No, thank goodness. At least for Sharpe the fandom is so tiny it'd be hard not to notice if someone did lol.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Nope! Though I've considered translating my own into Spanish, I'm not quite proficient as I am in English and it wouldn't be the same.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Almost every single bit of writing for the Sharpe series that isn't posted to AO3 has pretty much been written with @properbastard. Sam and I pretty much every day bounce ideas off of each other and share one brain cell. But she also beta-reads my fics and often helps me when I'm stuck, so even if it's a fic I wrote myself, she's pretty much embedded into it too. And if rping counts as cowriting a fic, then yes, absolutely!

14. What’s your all time favourite ship?

If you're following me and reading this, you probably already know <3

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

Personally I try not to think of WIP's that way. I think I have the potential to finish any fic, but I don't want to set myself up for failure by thinking I'll never finish something. Or maybe that's just me being in denial LOL.

16. What are your writing strengths?

I think descriptions and maybe dialogue? I like to describe landscapes and set up scenes so that a nice image is painted and sets the stage for the main characters, so to speak. I also have a decent feel for dialogue, I think. Since I've very rarely written modern fiction, one of the most important aspects of historical fiction is being conscious of how characters speak. What words would they use? Do they shorten sentences, or not? What's their background? Upper class or from the gutter? Do they speak English natively? Can they use this phrase, or is that a modern one? I'm a stickler for it, and if I read a fic where the characters Do Not sound like themselves, I usually have to exit out of it.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Actually writing lmfao. I don't tend to have a lot of confidence with my writing, which is a shame, but I struggle a lot with that and second guess myself on a lot of things. I'm also incredibly slow- I have so many fics on the backburner just chillin' that I get overwhelmed just looking at and then don't do it, despite wanting to. I create a lot of obstacles for myself that I know don't need to be there, but I'm not sure how to get rid of them.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

I've done it before! Least not in published fics. For Teresa, since I literally got a Spanish degree because of her, in the past I've incorporated a bit of Spanish into my writing to practice my lessons with her. It was really fun- and honestly, I think it can definitely serve a purpose in a fic- sometimes not knowing what's being said and being forced to extrapolate for yourself through context clues can really put yourself into another characters shoes.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Left 4 Dead. I was hugely into the Valve games, but L4D was my first foray, and probably my biggest and most popular fic. I had quite a few chapters and people really liked it on FF.net, and I would write out the chapters on paper in class, in middle school. I ended up deleting it because I had no idea what to do with it- no plans, no story, just writing as I went. I fondly remember a scene I wrote where Zoey was bleeding out and Nick used a defib on her and it worked <3 oh 13 year old medical knowledge....

20. Favourite fic you’ve written?

I can't choose! I think I'm so critical of my writing it's so hard to like anything I write.

6. What’s the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? That's tough to say for sure but I think every lessons forms a new scar ending with an off-screen character death is probably the most angst I've ended with so far.

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? That would have to be All the Words I Don't Have again. Everything is beautiful and nothing hurts. And Lockwood writes some really bad poetry.

8. Do you get hate on fics? Not so far.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? I do sometimes, and it's not published yet.

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written? Another Change of Plans is the most tumblr WIP I have lol. It dares to start asking the question, "What if the Old Guard adopted Adam Young, the antichrist from Good Omens?"

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? Not that I know of.

12. Have you ever co-written a fic before? Sort of? There was one collab fic I wrote a scene for but it never got finished. Someday I might post my part, because ngl I'm pretty proud of the Skull/Lucy banter in it.

13. What’s your all time favorite ship? How could I ever choose??? By bookmark stats, it would be Marinette and Adrien from Miraculous Ladybug. But cot3 (Lockwood & Co) and Superbat (DC) are up there too.

14. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? A better question is what isn't a WIP I'll never finish??? I have dozens 😭 Though one that stands out is an old Frozen fic I outlined in I think 2018(?). The premise is a canon divergence where Anna's death is faked when they're children and she's raised in the village instead of in the castle. There are two full acts that are just set up for a The Prince And Me/Princess Diaries-esque rom-com between suddenly-a-princess Anna and just-a-normal-guy Kristoff.

The outline on its own is about 8k words, and frankly I've considered editing and posting the outline itself before because it's detailed enough. This fic is actually a drabble I wrote to take place within my AU, but it reads canon compliant enough of its own so I posted it.

15. What are your writing strengths? Ideas. I am always getting new plot bunnies, always getting excited about the next great idea, always thinking about new aspects of these worlds and characters I want to explore.

16. What are your writing weaknesses? Dialogue and volume. That's why I write so many descriptive, very short fics XD

17. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic? I'd only do it in a language I've studied for a couple years, and even then I would want a native speaker to read over it for me. But it hasn't come up yet?

I do really like Superbat or Star Trek fics where the author sparingly includes Kryptonian / Klingon / Vulcan with a translation at the end.

18. First fandom you wrote for? My Little Pony, or maybe Percy Jackson?? I'm too scared to check my old accounts to see which came first, if I ever even posted the fics I remember writing then at all.

19. Favorite fic you’ve written? building glass castles for sure!!! I love the atmosphere in it, and the monologue from Skull. That monologue came to me in the middle of the night once, so I had to type it up immediately and build the fic around it later.

First fic: Drunk Dial (okay, it's not actually my first fic on AO3, but I posted it on tumblr first). It's exactly the kind of silliness I was into at the time.

Last fic: I'll be posting the final chapter of Sons of Love and Death tomorrow (though I highly doubt it will be my "last"--as in final--fic; just need the muse to focus on something)

Only once: All my fics have been for OUAT, and the vast majority Captain Swan, but I wrote two fics for crackships: A Pair of Barflies (Captain Beauty) and True Love is Like a Beard: It Grows (Captain Charming--romantic, which I need to specify because there are quite a few brotp fics in there).

Favorite fic from the fandom I’ve written in most: You mean I have to pick? I usually say Savage Garden, but it might be overtaken by Sons of Love and Death...but probably only because it's more recent.

Fic I wish more people read: All of them, haha. But particularly Sons of Love and Death and Most Wanted. They were both a lot of fun to play with different kinds of magic and worldbuilding.

Fic I agonized over: Sons of Love and Death started from a tumblr prompt sent to me in September 2015 and didn't see the light of day until July 2023. So definitely that one. (But let's be real, just about all of my MC fics.) Shoutout also goes to Two Booksellers of Storybrooke because I had to brush up on Shakespeare a LOT.

Fic that sprang fully formed: A good number of one-shots--particularly the ones inspired by songs (which I will be adding to soon)--but also Partners, because binge-watching SVU does that to a person.

Work(s) I’m proud of: SEVERAL! All of the above, for starters, but here's a few more:

A Tall Tail: My first MC/'verse (because it ended up expanding from there) and what got me any kind of following as a writer. I'd never tackled anything like that--let alone being new to fanfic writing--so that I was able to pull it off still amazes me.

Something In The Water: aka Mermaid Killian 2. Because pulling that off in a modern setting was incredibly fun.

Spinning Together: I just love that I was able to put together CS and colorguard (my other passion).

It's Getting Hard to be Someone: This was an idea that had been floating around forever and I'm really happy with the way it turned out when I finally got to write it.

I could keep going but I'd be here a while. But we all know that when we write something, we usually put a part of us into it, so it's hard not to have a fondness for all of them!

Ok, so this is my first post to tumblr, and I don't know if I'll ever make more. But fuck it, anything for jrwi.

Spoiler warning for all of bitb under the cut

Welcome to my Essay:

Why Everyone Lived in BITB

Ok, so the main theme of bitb – intentional or not – is friendship and love.

Kian first died because of his love for Becky, Rolan's parents loved him too much and smothered him, leading to his death, and to bug Rolan leaving, Kian's parents didn't love him enough, leaving him neglected, Rand's mom loves him, but struggles to understand him at times, and his father seems to not love him at all. Hell, the whole thing started, because Rand failed to show that he does love Rachel. The campaign is even started with the love our 3 main characters share. Because dnd – as fun as it is – could not have been the only reason they came back together. Whether that is a platonic or romantic love is something up to interpretation, but either way they all care deeply for one another.

We also see all 3 struggling with their own guilt and self doubts about not showing enough love, or fear of not being loved – Rolan and his parents and him leaving Rand behind, Rand and Rachel, as well as him feeling as though he's a disappointment and will never achieve anything with his life, and Kian with the fear that should anyone find out he's not really a rockstar they won't like him anymore.

When the apocalypse starts, it doesn't seem to really go for strangers, it goes for people they all know and care about. Of course this is most likely just to make sure there's more drama, but regardless it doesn't matter, because it is what happened for this world.

As it goes on, we see our characters separate, and ironically, this is when it gets hardest for them. This is when Kian dies, this is when Rolan gets attacked, when Rand gets attacked. It is when they are alone, isolated, without those they care about.

Yet when they come together it is when they persevere; it is when they find the most clues, when they seem to get the farthest. Even though Rand is scared that Rolan is a bug, he realizes this is still his friend, and has been for years. Not only that, but Rolan probably would've lost himself to his instincts had Rand not been there. He's terrified of what he is, and had he been alone, unable to fully recognize someone he cares about is there, and who he needs to help survive all this, he may have just gone back to being a soldier bug because of his panic, fear, and disgust at what he is.

Through finding himself he's able to locate the queen. Who is it? Rachel.

Now, I'll be entirely honest, Kian isn't able to do a whole lot during this, but I honestly think that had he not been there – had he not died again, to his sister! – Rand would not have been able to bring himself to kill the queen, because he wouldn't have snapped out of it (at least somewhat). He also helps reveal the queen is behind Rachel, and protects them somewhat by making the queen unable to see them.

When Rand started doubting, when his sister was about to turn him, it's Rolan who cuts off the wire like tendril stuck into his head.

When the grenades won't be able to kill the queen, and Rolan has to make the choice to run away and live aware, or die a soldier for the chance of saving them, he doesn't leave. He jumps and sacrifices not only his life – possibly, but we'll get there in a second – but his sense of self as well to allow Rand to make the throw.

At the end we are given Rand hugging his sister, Rachel saying "you've changed." as a glitter like magic passes over the town. We are not told if this is Rand's brain providing him what he needs to see as he bleeds out from his wounds, we are not told what happens to the bugs, we are not told what happens to the people killed, turned into materials for the hive. We are given the choice to decide for ourselves what happened.

I think Rand survived, as that fits most with the 80s horror movie vibe. The final girl trying their best to move on. But supposedly, his friends did not.

And here's the thing, to me it makes the most sense that everyone is ok. Because what does Rand have at the end if Kian and Rolan are truly dead? Rat seemed to be his only other friend and he died long ago, we don't know if his parents are still alive, and Rachel – if truly ok – would be the only person he has left.

Which really doesn't fit the theme of love and friendship. Rand, just left alone, his mind broken and no one left to help him get better? He can't go to a therapist like Kian would suggest, who'd believe him? He'd be locked in an insane asylum. The chances of him getting a job is low as most places when hiring are somewhat discriminatory to those with mental illnesses, especially in the 80s. Everyone in town just thinks he's some scumbag stoner, and no way would he say he defeated the queen and ended the apocalypse – especially if it resulted in his 2 best friends' deaths.

If we were to follow the theme of friendship it would imply that both Rolan and Kian are ok. It's can also be inferred Kian is ok due to the fact he mentions his next song should be "Smoke with the Devil", a song we know he made – yes it could just be a fun easter egg, but it could also be a canonical thing he made – and we know he didn't make it before the events of the campaign, as he mentioned that he should make it while on the boat they took to go kill the queen. We also know that friendship itself is able to bring people back. Kian is literally revived, through the power of friendship. While Rand may not have used magic, it's not impossible to say Kian would still be revived again, through different means.

Following that logic, anyone who was turned into a bug/eaten by a bug is probably ok. Meaning Rolan would be alive. Whether he'd still be a bug is up for debate – though personally I like the idea of Rolan still being a bug (maybe because he wasn't really apart of the hivemind until right when the queen died, meaning he couldn't fully establish a link and thus wouldn't be back to human, and wouldn't be part of the hivemind (or maybe only partly); or it could be because he was one of the first killed, and now his human body is beyond saving) – but either way he'd be ok.

And even if that wasn't the case, if Kian is ok, Rolan would still be ok. Because if Kian isn't ok because the bug people got turned back, it would probably be because the people eaten/used for building materials were ok. which in that case, would mean the bugs either died – unlikely they would all just die immediately if the magic didn't get rid of them – or are still alive. If still alive, then they would probably be drifting listlessly without their queen, possibly no longer a hivemind, stuck without orders and probably slowly starving to death.

Whether the bugs starve to death wouldn't fully matter, because regardless, Rolan would be ok. Again, probably not fully connected to the hivemind if there is still a connection, but he would be able to survive as a bug through human means – whether just wandering around in the wild or living in human society (would probably depend on if he's stuck in his instincts (also for the sake of a happy ending I'm guessing Rand and Kian would find him eventually)). He would be able to survive in ways other bugs couldn't because he's done so for years. and even if it might not be at the forefront of his mind and thoughts if he's stuck in his instincts, there would still be a part of his telling him he can do those thing – eat human food and not people, wear clothes, not go full bug – because we know the bugs remember the parts of their human lives. But not only does Rolan have his human life, he's also spent around half his life as a bug, living as a human, being human.

While yes there are other options for how bitb ended, and things I've probably overlooked or missed, or just forgot to add in my writing of this rant, I do think it's 100% possible for our boys in the bayou to all have survived, and get the happy ending they all deserve.

12. the unpopular character that you actually like and why more people should like them

JJ. He's a baddie he knows he's a 10. I just love someone who is unapologetically a self-serving asshole and doesn't feel the need to make it a thing of nuance. He's funny, I love him, and I understand why he doesn't like/respect Peter or Spider-Man. (I don't even think this is an unpopular opinion necessarily, but he is my favorite canon side character to write.) Unpopular opinion is I think Dopinder is a bad character and a racist caricature and whenever I read him in anything it makes me uncomfortable/like the work less.

13. worst blorboficiation

I hate the word blorbo to such a degree that I have it blacklisted. The worst blorbofication is the entire culture of blorbos. I don't like it! I don't have blorbos! It is Wade Wilson though, without a doubt.

18. It's absolutely criminal that the fandom has been sleeping on...

Peter's canonical anger issues (self explanatory) + Ellie's canonical personality. She isn't a sweet kid who exists as the cardboard cutout of a child! She once threatened to rip Wade's heart out and told him to fuck off and die. She literally films herself beating up people at school and posts them online to publicly humiliate them. I love her so much!

23. ship you've unwillingly come around to

I think any threesome fic that blows my mind really makes me say "I hadn't considered this until now but -" specifically there was a really good vanessa + wade + peter one I liked and a great wade + peter + harry one and they both made me realize porque no los dos?

I don't know if it was unwillingly but it took a couple of tries for me to really get into spideytorch and now I have 18k of a one-shot exploring their friendship/past fwbs while the main ship sort of simmers way, way further in the background. I'll probably write something for them for real in the future.

ok here's my comprehensive post about it based on what we currently know and how i'm currently feeling.

about dream: even in the very best case scenario here, he's a massive idiot who has hugely violated the acceptable boundaries between creator and fan, and he has demonstrated repeated disrespect for his community with the way he has brushed things off in addressing them. and that's the BEST case scenario based on what he's readily admitted; i don't think i have to detail how vile the worst case is. i've stood in dream's corner through a lot of bullshit, and i don't even really consider myself to have been wrong in those instances, but again, even giving the most benefit of the doubt imaginable and assuming that all the more explicit allegations are entirely false, this is still not a guy i can continue to invest any sort of positive energy towards. like this is where i have to pump on the parasocial brakes and put a stop to things.

about the dsmp: i'm a lorehead, this much is obvious. i honestly don't know how my investment in the story that is so intrinsically tied to dream is going to continue. obviously, plans have been made, and speaking selfishly, i do want to see the characters i love round off their arcs. but this isn't like a movie or a show where you can clearly partition character vs creator. and well, it's not the first time that lore has been used in a blatant attempt to sweep serious issues under the rug; dreamxd and c!dteam lore has always been some of my favorite, and yet to this day i have not been able to look back at that stream without contempt. unfortunately, the promise of upcoming lore leaves the same sour taste. part of me hopes that tommy and ranboo and whoever else who was planning on rounding off their arcs just decide to drop their google docs and be done with it. i don't know. perhaps eventually i'll be able to reapproach the story and characters with a healthy separation in mind, but that time is definitely not going to be in the immediate future.

about other dsmp ccs in general: i think that it's too early yet to make any judgments on how other ccs in dream's circle are handling things. i'll definitely have to wait and see how things unfold before determining who else i feel the need to cut ties with. i highly doubt sapnap or george would ever speak up against dream or ever continue content creation without his involvement; that very much feels like a "if they go down they go down together" situation. as for others, well. again, selfishly speaking, i want to hold out hope for the ccs who have distinct enough communities that they could feasibly distance their content from dream. i am tentatively considering sbi and co? i guess safe? for the time being? but it's definitely like. idk, i will probably keep my distance and wait to see how things get handled.

about the future of this blog: i think it's been pretty obvious that this blog has become more heavily hermit/trafficlife focused as of late, so if nothing else i'll probably just lean into that more? though being completely honest, i made this sideblog in the first place because i was returning to tumblr after like a solid 3-4 years of inactivity, where i knew that i had long-standing mutualships with fervent dsmp antis and didn't want my every post to be judged lmao. i don't especially mind being cringe about other mcyts on main, which is why i was saying that i might transition more to posting over at @strifetxt in the future? i'm not certain about that though, i like the categorization i've established here, so who knows. i'm definitely not deactivating this blog; even if i do transition fully to main, i'd want to keep this blog as an archive.

regardless of anything, i don't regret the fun i had in this community, and i certainly could never regret getting to meet and spend time with all the amazing people i've come to know in my time here <3
