Yknow what. Crack headcanon that Captain of the Guard's name is Captain of the Guard. Legally. That's what's on his birth certificate. Oh my God. Eugene thinks it's so funny. So now that he's no longer captain, Eugene jokes that his name is now just... "____" Like, it's just a blank space in the sentence. Eugene starts addressing him with a brief silent pause where you would normally speak his name, and this bit catches on throughout the whole royal staff. "Hey, ____, is that a new haircut?" "Oh, me and ____ are stopping by to the tailor later." "Hey, ____? Does this mean Cassandra doesn't have a last name anymore?"

This is gonna sound harsh, but I gotta say after seeing what the Corona Guards were like throughout the entire series of Tangled, it's no surprise how Mother Gothel was able to sneak into the castle and kidnap Rapunzel when she was a baby.

The guards weren't always on their A-Game and it's shocking just how much stuff got by them. It's just as Lance said in one of the last episodes, "Have any of these guys ever successfully guarded anything?" I could make a list, but I don't want to add further insult to injury. I will say they are in better hands now that Eugene is charge. (Sorry Cap)

Thinking about the Captain of the Guard, what made him choose Eugene to be his successor over every other Guard, who had loyally served Corona for years? Doesn't that show a lack of faith in his own guards to safely keep Corona and the Royal Family safe? He chose someone with no experience who, until a few years ago, was the most wanted man in the Kingdom.

Look, if it had been up to me, it never would have been written like that. lol I'm not a fan of the Captain Eugene angle they decided to take. To me, it makes no sense for his character development. "Going from being a criminal to a cop," is not the pure progression they were aiming for. Not to mention, he hadn't even applied for the job. And on top of that, the epilogue of the movie doesn't even imply a little bit that Eugene has anything to do with the guard. If anything, Maximus should have been named Captain (which is part of why I headcanon him as co-captain).

However, I think I can see what they were going for. In the time that Eugene turned over a new leaf, he'd saved Frederic and Arianna twice apiece. He'd spent approximately a year being Rapunzel's personal guard away from Corona, protecting her even from the other person who was trying to be her guard. He helped train the guard to better catch thieves, spent some time as a guard, himself, had been entrusted with getting Dwayne put behind bars, and helped restore the kingdom to its rightful rulership after the Separatists took it over. He'd also chosen Corona over the Dark Kingdom. The Captain was incredibly aware of all of this.

Not to mention, Corona's guards have proven time and time again to be bumbling idiots. Even when they're at their best, criminals escape from Corona's jails all the time. In "Great Expotations," Stan is called Corona's finest, but this is how he reacts to something scaring him:

(Don't get me wrong, I adore Stan, but one gets pulled over on him all the time.)

I sort of feel like... I don't know, I know they were aware that the fans were dissatisfied with how he was being treated during the course of the series, and I feel like this was their attempt to give him a serious endcap to the series' adventures, instead of the comic relief he'd been awarded for most of it.

I did a quick double check while outlining the crossover and I am bewildered what do you MEAN that Cass’s dad, a pretty important side character, does not have a name????

Is there like a common fan given name for this guy?
