Had an idea to write awhile back where I rewrote some of my fav Pokemon movie's plots (with differences) into my verse so. I ponder

Discuss. Pokeani traveling companion nightmare blunt rotation options. Long post under cut, I put way too much thought into this.

Detailed thoughts under cut.

Faba. Look, I never watched all of SM so I can't speak for his anime counterpart, but going off of gameverse Faba, there is zero way that adding him to ANYTHING will improve it. I feel like I don't need to explain this one.

Nicholai. He's a furry (not a negative) who dresses as pokemon while trying to catch them (that's the negative). He also refuses to call shorts anything but knickerbockers. Traveling with him means you'll be hearing about knickerbockers and scaring off pokemon with giant zigzagoon costumes before you can even catch pokemon.

Baron Alberto. You get to decide if he's a lickilicky or not. I feel like I don't need to explain this one much, either. Just watch the darkrai movie.

Brandon. Okay, look. On one hand, you can travel with him and just fly places in the Battle Pyramid (which flies, by the way). On the other hand, he might yell at you ("NOOOOOOO") and you might have to make occasional pit stops to haunted ruins where kids get posessed by the king of pokelantis. You also might get crushed by a Regirock in his presence. But hey, you'll have an uber.

Butler. Diane will not be there to travel with you guys, which I think turns Butler from a powerful companion to a cringefail magician without his wife to keep him in check. Diane needs a raise. You might get absorbed by Meta Groudon if you choose to travel with him. However, if you have beef with Team Magma, he'll be ready to prove himself to them. This could be either a pro or a con depending on how he goes about this. Historically it has been a... decently large con.

Brianna. Look. I could make her worse. I could fix her. I could make her an actual character, but it's honestly funnier to just keep her the exact same. She's probably a largely normal, nice girl outside of her Brianna-ness, but if you choose to travel with her then Drew will be there too so you have to watch her Brianna all over the place. Also, this means traveling with Drew, which could go very many different ways. He himself barely escaped this list, if only due to personal bias. This one's a real coin flip. On one hand, she (probably) won't get you killed like Butler or Brandon might. On the other hand, Brianna. (/affectionate. I love Brianna. Something's wrong with her <3.) Safer bet but also has potential to be an incredibly annoying, cringeworthy bet that gets you stuck watching and subsequently dealing with tween relationship drama.

Charon. Another self-explanatory one I think.

Seymour (clefairy guy). Look, this guy's just annoying to me. I don't have any concrete reasons to have him here, other than the fact that he annoys me personally.

Anime Bill. He just creeps me out. That's all.

Kenny. So, look. I won't be too harsh on Kenny here, most of my Kenny hate is a joke (I don't actually hate him but hating on him is something of a meme with my friends), but I'm also not sure he'd be my first choice of a travelling companion. He's kind of whiny and likes to get a rise out of people. He's a petty and largely joking addition but also, he could be pretty annoying. I could fix him though.

Morrison. Loud. Likes sandwiches. Largely forgotten by the fandom because nobody watches Hoenn/AG for anything but the coordinators or battle frontier brains. He's mostly on this list for being loud.

Tommy. Yeah.

Hunter J. Also... yeah. Have fun getting arrested for associating with a criminal. I'm sure some of y'all would risk it all for her, though 👏

Harley. Even if you're on his good side, whatever that side may be, you're still going to have to be around his Harley-ness, and there's no guarantee that you won't be called upon to help him ruin the life of a ten year old. He gets a gif instead of a plain image. 80/20 chance you end up in his burn book (a canonical thing that he owns).

Roderick. Again, nothing WRONG with him per se, but he's an old guy who lived on an island with wynaut for 40something years, and his only confirmed pokemon is a bellsprout iirc. Roderick also just kind of watched a couple ten year olds presumably die and he seemed disproportionately chill about it, so there's no guarantee he'll be much help in an emergency. If not for May, Drew would have drowned because Roderick was not much help. Go watch Who What When Where Wynaut. Also, he's Paul's grandfather. Not canonically, but... trust me. He does have a boat, though. So that's cool.

Sid. Actually, there's nothing wrong with Sid other than not respecting personal space much and not being able to tell when someone's not interested. Go watch Destiny Deoxys, by the way. Fun movie THAT I COULD FIX DEAR GOD LET ME FIX IT. If you don't know my issues here then send me an anon and I swear to god I'll get into it, I always have this rant locked and loaded. EDIT: Sid is also now on this list because his google images was a weird adventure I don't wish to go on again. I got this image and no others. RIP anyone who tries to look up images for any pokemon anime character ever.

Zero. Weird emo with professor/father figure issues (???) or just issues in general, honestly. Really wants Giratina's power. Invented Siri. Wears a onesie. Failed star wars villain.

Dr. Yung. Did anyone even watch the mirage island special? I did. I still don't know what happened in it. Those 30 minutes of my life are a nonexistent blur. Something about Mew and Mewtwo, idfk. Traveling with him will get you into some shit, but it'll be incredibly forgettable shit that the fandom largely is unaware of. He's also evil, by the way, but kind of looks like a sad wet cat when he's not in evil mode.

Kevin. He's just kind of boring. His sister's way cooler. He's just Kevin. When I looked him up for images, the fourth image was a really buff, bipedal bidoof, which tells you about Kevin, I think.

Hello, I’m looking for a Pokemon matchup!

People tend to say I’m really nervous and I hate to agree with them.. I’m working on it! Slowly- But when I’m not a nervous wreck, I’d say I’m mostly a curious person, who would like to get to know more people and Pokemon :)

I’m a young adult male, and I work at a Pokemon center that one of my older sisters run! I usually work from around 7AM to 5PM, but I do help around after that as well. I wake up at around 4 though, seeing as I take.. very long to get ready, even with Charlotte’s help.

I’m very sensitive to the heat, so a Pokemon that can keep me cool would definitely be appreciated- I remember the time I nearly fainted while on a shift when the AC wasn’t working.. that wasn’t very fun and it is NOT an experience I would like to repeat any time soon!

I live in Mauville City, and my apartment isn’t exactly the biggest- But I do have 2 bedrooms at least! My Riolu likes to sleep in my bed with me most of the time, since she isn’t a fan of being in her Pokeball after a certain.. well.. incident.

I live in Hoenn, which is an (unfortunately) warmer climate. My sisters keep trying to get me to move somewhere colder, but I’m halfway convinced that they just don’t want to deal with me anymore- I love them though, and wouldn’t trade them for anything :)

I work with a lot of different Pokemon, big and small, soft and scaly! Though, I don’t have any Pokemon of my own other than my Riolu, Charlotte. She’s a very good helper, and is very friendly! Clingy too- She doesn’t battle all too much, but does step in to help with the rowdier Pokemon at the center if we can’t handle it ourselves

The new Pokemon would most likely serve as someone to help me out at work, while also being a good companion for me and Lottie! I like to do simple things with my Pokemon, like read books together on the couch or just watch whatever shows or movies are on at the moment :)

Alright, everybody say it with me now: you can almost never go wrong with an Eeveelution! Vaporeon are great Pokémon for really any sort of lifestyle, whether it’s life as a top-tier battle partner, or life as a beloved couch companion. They can also live in pretty much any climate as long as they have access to water (and, since you live in Hoenn, I don’t think you’ll have any trouble finding your finned friend a place to swim!)

Vaporeon have pretty short fur, so their grooming needs aren’t particularly intensive; a good brushing once or twice a week should be all they need! You will want to bathe them if they’ve spent any time in chlorinated water and, when bathing, be sure to use products intended for furred Water-types, as using regular products can damage their coat. During grooming, it’s also a good idea to check the webbing between their paws, just to make sure no dirt or rocks have gotten stuck.

These guys are usually pretty calm, friendly Pokémon, so I have no doubts that one will get along swimmingly with you and Charlotte! One thing to be aware of is that Vaporeon can have somewhat high prey drives towards Pokémon that they’d typically, well, prey upon in the wild (mainly small fish, shellfish, and cephalopod Pokémon), so I’d highly recommend keeping an eye on your Vaporeon whenever they’re around said Pokémon (it is, however, worth noting that this is typically more of an issue in wild-caught Vaporeon, as opposed to Vaporeon that were captured as Eevee)

Gou has a long list of ‘main character firsts’, but some of the more significant/unexpected ones are:

·      The first main character other than Satoshi to own three starter Pokémon from the same region.  

·      The first to have an episode in the main series entirely focused on him with no Satoshi in sight.

·      The first to travel with Satoshi to and through more than eight regions—those regions being Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, Unova/Isshu, Kalos, Alola, and Galar.  

·      The first to catch more Pokémon than Satoshi.

Gou has met more of Satoshi’s close(ish) friends, family, and reoccurring acquaintances than any other character besides Pikachu. This is because Gou has been introduced to:

- All of the Pokémon Satoshi keeps at the Oak Lab

- All of Satoshi’s Alolan Pokémon

- Every main character from the Sun and Moon series besides Lillie and Gladio(n)—plus Lei/Rei, Satoshi’s little brother and their Pokémon.

Gou was introduced as the Pokémon anime’s first true deuteragonist. A deuteragonist is the character second to importance to the protagonist and their role is traditionally to assist the main character in achieving their goal. However, in JN037, when the Alola gang refer to Gou as Satoshi’s rival, Gou asserts that he is not a rival or sidekick, but that he is Satoshi’s equal and close friend who has his own goals, and those goals are not about helping Ash achieve his, because he believes Satoshi can achieve them on his own. So, Gou goes from deuteragonist to the co-protagonist, again being the first in the series’ over two-decade long history.

The manner in which Gou catches Pokémon reflects the way player characters/protagonists do in Pokémon (main) games and (most) canon mangas: he aims to fill his Pokédex, he usually (but not always) needs to battle his opponent first, and he does not shy away from trying to catch legendary Pokémon.

Gou is fascinated by TR’s Meowth. He often asks Satoshi questions about it at random occasions, like as they are lying in bed at night or having a meal.

Gou eventually becomes a professor, but still goes on adventures with Satoshi, in part for the purpose of research. His specialty is similar to Professor Oak’s: studying human and Pokémon relationships, but with a more personal focus. 

Gou has a major crush on Satoshi. Satoshi suspects this (eventually) but isn’t sure until the two are (at least) teenagers. 

Koharu/Chloe mostly spent time with Gou because (A) Gou was obsessed with her father’s research, (B) She felt sorry for him, and (C) She didn’t have many friends either. 

Gou and his family are Ryukyuan Japanese and Hmong.

◑ What is a side to your muse you want to show off, but haven’t had the chance to yet?

I say a lot about Kaneda struggling with delusions and psychosis, and since he’s the least utilized character on this blog, INCLUDING Doc, it’s kinda getting to me that I can’t showcase that in a way that doesn’t sound like it’d be super problematic. That bugs me because I’ve put a lot of thought into his character, as well as research! 

I actually read articles and heavily research stuff that I put in my muses’ backstories, and I really wanna show good rep for a lovable, friendly boy that struggles with psychosis in a non-stigmatized way! I’m so tired of people like him getting pigeonholed into being your typical horror movie “psychotic villain”!!! I have an aunt with schizophrenia and I don’t think she’s ever hurt anyone, and for a long time, I didn’t even know about it! 

I just want to show people like him having jobs and friends and family and getting along as best as they can... I hope I get to delve into his character on here as much as I’ve been lucky to on private Discord servers.

† Do you portray your muse as religious? Why or why not? How does your own religion (or lack thereof) influence this?

Kouki is pretty obviously a religious or spiritual muse, and I wanted to make him because I feel like religion can sometimes be pointed to as the Cause Of All The World’s Ills in some circles, and... I’m sorry, I just don’t agree with that at all. That doesn’t mean it can’t be taken and corrupted by shitty people, as it has been all throughout histoy! But I also think it can be a major force of good in the right hands. 

Kouki is “the right hands”. His father........ is not. And I want to show that duality in a way that’s meaningful to me, as someone who grew up in a religious house with a mom who is still really devoutly religious and also progressive as all hell.

✄ What is an idea you originally had in mind for your muse, but ended up scrapping? Why? (Answered!)

✸ Tell us about any NPCs on your blog. Who are they to your muse? What do they contribute to your blog?

Kaneda, being a Pokemon Contest Coordinator and potential challenger for the Hoenn League has 4 “rivals” in the contest scene! His specialty is Beauty, and he took it up to follow in the footsteps of his idols, Wallace and Juan! His other rivals specialize in the other four contest types! 

The most major of all being Dale, the Toughness Champion. Dale is Kaneda’s foil in a lot of ways that I can’t get into right now because of how much it spoils Kaneda’s story and I can’t do that to myself before I’ve had the chance to write even ONE proper thread with the poor guy (sobs), but I will say that he takes inspiration from Pro Wrestling, and is more than happy to play the “Heel” in Kaneda’s rise to glory!

❀ What is a muse you want to play but haven’t? Why haven’t you played them yet?

I have more monster girl characters in the waiting, but......... Am too Shy abt playing them............. Joro is easier because I’ve done a whole campaign with her, but Beau, Chetak, and Firebringer would be mostly new and I get so fuckin Antsy about not playing my girl characters “right” because I just love them so much... Maybe one day I will stop being a coward. 😔

✑ Do you prefer writing OCs or canon characters? Why?

After a long history of playing OCs, and an even longer history of playing canons, I can honestly say......... 

I have no preference. Lmao.

They’re both fun in their own ways. It mostly just comes down to what I’m in the mood for atm. Right now, in this stage of my life, I’m in the mood for making my own stuff, because I really want to set myself up to maybe start publishing my own works! But I love making canon characters uniquely my own, too. 

It’s like slipping into a warm pair of pajamas........ It’s comforting in an odd way to know that there’s actual, solid shit to look back to and reflect on so that I feel like I can play my muse as canonly as possible. As opposed to my own characters where... I’m the only pilot driving this plane and I’ve had an entire bottle of tequila.

I’m getting a wild need to put out some Pokemon thoughts and no one is here to tell me to stop so really it’s society’s fault anyway let’s get to business-

-With the last few generations, I’m becoming convinced that certain Pokemon from other Gens aren’t really native to the regions we thought they’re from. Like, Eevee are supposedly SUPER rare in Kanto, and since they’re Gen 1, you assume they’re from there, but in Gens 6 and 8, you can just FIND the little buggers in the tall grass. I have a team of Eevee evolutions based off of Magical Girls because of that (we’ve come a long way from the days where we got the one and had to REALLY think about how we were going to evolve-I’m kidding, it’s Vaporeon. The answer was always Vaporeon). Same goes for Chancy, which you can just find in Gen 8 no problem, no Safari Zone hunting FOR DAYS here. 

-I’m mostly going by the logic of the games since I’ve never played the card game and I haven’t really watched the show since Ash was in Sinnoh but; we need to dial it back on the Legendaries. We’re getting a little overstuffed here and if the next gen games want to only have, like, -2(?!)- then I’m fine with that. It’s less that I’m some crusty older player upset that Legendaries aren’t as spectacular as they used to be or someshit, but more I’m just getting TIRED of all the lore. Can we just have some overlap at some point? A good CHUNK of them are irrelevant anyway. Like, who cares what Hoopa’s deal even is? Or Heatran’s? A handful of them have been pains-in-the-ass event ones that didn’t even really do much and were hyped through the movies (don’t tell me Celebi was worth getting, I don’t believe that. At best it’s cute and that’s it). 

-As far as Bad Guy Teams go? Don’t nobody tell me Cyrus wasn’t the biggest problem out of all of them. Team Rocket? Pokemon abusers and bad guys, sure, but also basically the mob; at best they tried to take a radio tower and a train. Teams Aqua and Magma? Eco-Terrorists and indeed nearly caused actual irreversible damage to Hoenn, but at LEAST thought they had the moral high ground. Plasma? Same thing but were also just PETA. Skull? A bunch of disillusioned b-boys and their boss just looking for places to pose. But Cyrus?! He tried to mess with reality. He led a cult of fanatical bowl-cuts to steal dangerous technology, create massive explosions to suss out powerful Pokemon and use the power of those Pokemon to steal the powers of stronger Pokemon who were in charge of Time and Space. All because he never totally “got” emotions and decided he was going to start his own reality, with blackjack and hookers. While all the other Bad Guy Team Leaders hammed it up with the best of them, Cyrus just stared and judged like a damn cat. He’s high-grade creep and I still enjoy the story in Platinum, just to see him try to intimidate Pokemon Satan, just because he thought he could pull it off. 

-I actually like the gimmick that seems to be a trend now in each region having a different battle gimmick. Kalos had Megas (which are still the best btw, bring back Megas), Alola had Z-Moves (which were...fine) and now Galar has Dynamax, which I find cool on the basis that it turns Pokemon battles into kaiju battles and that’s neat. If Gamefreak can keep this up, I’m going to be genuinely interested in where they’re going to go in future Gens. 

-I’m also a fan of how they just, straight up ran out of Japan. Like, the first 4 regions were just based off of parts of Japan, which was cool because I got to learn what the real world parallels to stuff in the games were, until the developers either ran out of places to base regions off of or just got bored and decided to start making them based off of other places in the world. I know I’m not the first to say this, but that decision really served to open up the whole world of Pokemon, and now we get to speculate what the next region is going to be based off of and the kind of story potential that could have. I remember being so excited for Gen 5 when I found out that it was not only going to be based off America, but specifically the East Coast, and even more specifically, the general NYC/ NJ area (you can’t tell me Undella Town isn’t Cape May). Ever since then, I’ve been seeing fun fan-made regions based off of places like the Midwest, Russia, Mexico, and so many more.

Hey, what do you imagine Lugia's human form to look like?(Also, what do you think Shadow Lugia's human form would look like?)

I separated this more so it doesn’t become a big block of just text. I had a lot of time to think about his design along with Arceus, Mew, and Koko.

Think like Chris Even’s body type just... taller? But still shoulder to waist dorito ratio, definitely big hands as well. It’s very evident he does weights and can run pretty fast as well, good stamina over all too. But he also hugs the best out of everyone and it’s great. But back to his size. He’s still bigger then most of his family except like his older ‘cousins’ and maybe Yvelta, their technically the same height but Lugia is so sure he’s still half an inch taller.

His hair is a dark navy blue while his lumberjack beard, yes a lumberjack beard, is mostly white-ish with hints of blue. Body hair is a thing to. Not beastly hairy but more on the upper chest and lower arms. Eyebrows are on FleekTM, best ones out of like everyone but like Xerneas and Yvelta but they don’t fucking count because they do the bare minimum to keep them clean and pretty.

Lugia originally had his hair in a really long braid but he cut it short before Ash left for Hoenn, so now it’s fluffy on the top with an undercut. He’s pale, paler then Suicune’a weird blue-ish tone, but not like super pale. If that makes sense? He gets sun but just not enough like his three bird kids do. An Office kind of tan if you will.

All this makes more people pay attention to his red eyes. Like redder eyes then Red Eyes from that one Pokémon movie called Guardian Signs or something like that, idk search up “Pokémon red eyes” and you’ll find it. His face is also usually in a deep scowl but it’s just his resting face after dealing with the bird trio and Ho-Oh’s fucking kids for so long. The feeling of disapproval and disappointment is a long time friend and second nature with Lugia.

Unlike the rest of his Godly family, Lugia dresses more in comfort then in style. Choosing to pick baggy clothes as to not scare people more than he already does with his size, Ash also picked this up from Lugia because of how muscular he gets over the years Ash in general is much more influenced by Lugia out of all the Gods because he’s around Lugia more. Lose work out clothes are what he normally wears and if he’s not out in public then it’s pajamas because they don’t really make a lot of clothes to fit comfortably for guys like him. Pajamas usually consist of a clean tank top and camo pajama pants.

But let me just say, using the Mewtwo plot again...

Maybe this is the effect of seeing Mewtwo as a major feature in the Pokemon anime movies (the Unova one...I disown it) and the PokeSpecial manga, but I’d like Pokemon adaptions to use other Pokemon plots. Like, say, the DPPt legendaries (shout out to the PokeSpecial adaption of this) or the BW games. SM is also good too -

Even so, I didn’t think Mewtwo would be used to merge Pokemon and humans together. I just thought he was going on a rampage (...this is Mewtwo so...yeah, duh). But when they revealed that, I figured that the main dude’s dad being inside his Pikachu was the reason why he could communicate with his son + his face is never shown in the flashbacks

I prayed so hard that they wouldn’t end up kissing at the end despite the fact that their relationship went from the girl invading the guy’s privacy/him being uncomfortable to him suddenly being in love with her. And I was happy that they didn’t

This is ironic/hypocritical/rich coming from someone who enjoys crack/rare ships, aka sometimes where person A and B have never interacted with each other on screen, but I’d like to see more on-screen interaction and bonding and chemistry in the canon love lines. (Part 5) I was wondering if the Project Mew quartet would get a poster this month, seems they did~ According to an interview from a writer, the search for Mew is almost nigh and apparently Ash's battles are going to get wilder. (P.S. This is being sent before the episode airs, so I won't mention the results of it until my next reply)

I've never seen much of BW so I honestly mostly know Trip as the guy who was canonically racist. This doesn't bother me, it honestly makes me laugh to think about the anime writers handling Unova and being like "you know what else America has? Racist white people" and then making Trip. (Whether or not he was intended to come across that way, the guy from a region based on part of the US being prejudiced against people from a region based on part of Japan... very much ends up looking like racism/xenophobia.)

But I'm getting distracted here. Anyway, yeah, everyone Ash knows needs to see that battle! They need to see how far he's come!

Yeah, the potential is very much there for people who find it interesting to make use of. It can explain some things.

Yeah. My best guess as to why he never got to be involved in any of the OS movies is that he's such a spotlight-stealing presence, but it could've been so interesting. Missed opportunity for sure.

Yeah, it stands out to me that after Raticate left his team he still had a vacant team slot. Makes me think something definitely could've happened. And yeah, if we say it happened, it was part of a... rough chain of events for Blue, but it was definitely an accident. Red didn't intend for that to happen, and probably didn't even know it happened. And well... I have Opinions about gameverse Professor Oak and they are less than positive, but I don't think he's just a completely terrible person. And even if it's partly newer games sanitizing things, making non-antagonists more unambiguously nice people, I choose to believe in a gameverse Professor Oak redemption arc (even if it happened offscreen).

A lot of thoughts fell out of me right there but yeah. It feels like sometimes people have maybe gone a little too hard about the whole situation. (But I don't think I'm in a position to judge much.)

It's funny how that happened. Like, the trauma that isn't even Gary's gets brought up for him more than that thing we (partly) saw happen to him.

Poor Origins Blue, he had a Time. It's been quite a while since I rewatched Origins in its entirety but I do watch the Cubone episode from time to time, just for the scene where Blue bolts downstairs SCREAMING and slams into and fearhugs Red. People say Origins had the worst/most boring take on Red and that's fair, but Blue on the other hand is great.

Ah, makes sense. Any idea what the general consensus on the "Brandon is Paul's father" theory is these days?

Oh, I saw that! It was beautiful, gave me a lot of feelings about how far our Ashy-boy has come. He's been a part of my life for as long as I can remember and I'm just... so glad to have gotten to watch his journey. If/when he departs from the series I will genuinely grieve, which feels a little silly but there is no other character who means so much to me. But I'm really glad for the time we've all gotten to spend with him, following his adventures and seeing how much he's grown since his rocky start.

Anyway. [wipes tear] Yeah. Psyduck can definitely evolve to show how much it's gotten stronger and gained control of its power and still be silly. I would actually not mind seeing that.

Some months ago one of my Twitter mutuals wrote out a thread describing a potential Togetic reunion episode plot, so I can see the logistics of it for sure but whether or not the writers would do it... is something I guess we'll just have to find out.

Pokémon Villain-Champion Switch Scenarios

There were some sort of prompts in a thread that go like this:

Switching the champion and the villain in most generations can lead to some interesting stories.

Cyrus is similar to nanu as a champion, gets his thrills out of battle Cynthia wants to see the world burn for shit and giggles and wants giratina specifically

Actually in the case of XY Sycamore swapping with Lysandre would be more compelling

So of course I had to let my mind go wild on the concepts and think of some scenarios for Hoenn, Sinnoh and Kalos (with some liberties taken, mostly for Sinnoh). I kinda feel bad about leaving them on an anonymous board so I may as well share them here just for memory’s sake. 

They all began to get longer with each gen, so this is a very long post. Sorry if I have some spelling errors. I still hope you all like it. (Check out an Alola scenario here)

Hoenn

While going through the first gyms you hear word from some NPCs saying the League is having issues because the Champion seems to have left.

At first everything is played kinda straight, with Maxie and Archie looking as bad guys that are also opposing each other, while Steven is a cool guy who likes rocks and helps us fight them.

The more you advance in the story things start to get suspicious.

Turns out Steven is actually a really corrupt businessman alongside his father, and they are trying to wake up Groudon and Kyogre for their own ends.

Archie and Maxie were trying to stop Devon's advances to protect the sea and land respectively, but they acted as enemies because their interests and egos made them disagree even though they had the same endgoal.

By the climax they already solve their differences and work together with you to stop the legendaries.

You save the world and finally go to finish your Pokémon challenge, since it seems the Champion issue has been solved and they have returned.

Wait "they"?

Surprise surprise double battle for the Championship against Archie and Maxie.

Sinnoh

You first meet Cyrus in Lake Verity, he acts kinda creepy still but his monologue is about wanting to understand how the universe works.

You start your Pokémon journey and meet Cynthia, who talks to you about all these cool mythos of Sinnoh and the legendaries tied to them.

You keep encountering Cyrus and interacting with him. He seems to want to be left alone but still talks to you about legends and myths too, and how he wants to investigate about them.

Cynthia follows you closely and starts to feed you misinformation about what Cyrus is on about, he is quite the antisocial guy so it's easy to make him look like he could be a lunatic cult leader after all.

Turns out she has been doing the same with Looker, the Interpol guy sent to investigate some criminal activity in the region. 

You two then leave to check what Cyrus is doing, and letting Cynthia act freely.

Let's be honest, Cyrus' labs look like what a mad scientist would have, and seems his machines are indeed working with portals and experiments on the fabric of time and space.

You confront Cyrus on the matter, but turns out he wasn't trying to destroy the world or anything, he was trying to save it.

Wait what?

Cyrus is actually the Sinnoh Champion, and while doing usual walks on the region (since it seems Champions like to do that) he noticed there were some anomalies going around in the region, with time and space flowing in weird ways. He was leading an investigation to try to solve the issue and if possible track the origin of it.

You remember all the stuff Cynthia talked with you and realize she has been lying to you.

Saturn informs us that weird lectures have showed up in the Spear Pillar.

You all rush there.

There is Cynthia in control of Palkia and Dialga.

She then reveals her plans to us. She wants to use the Time and Space pokémon not to try to reshape the universe, but to summon Giratina.

Giratina indeed shows up, but before Cynthia can do anything they all get into the Distortion World.

There you search for Cynthia, who took some advantage to try and fight the Antimatter pokémon.

You find her before she manages tho.

You interrogate her again on her motives.

She tells you that after studying so much about the myths and legends, she realized something.

Palkia and Dialga aren't really such a big deal. Giratina is far more interesting.

She wanted to summon Giratina to capture it and THEN use it to get to the actual big deal: Arceus.

Cyrus calls nonsense. Maybe Giratina had some basis to exist (and indeed it does), but Arceus is just a fairytale that people made up to avoid thinking about where the world comes from.

Cynthia is adamant on her believes tho, and begins a rant about how Arceus is indeed real.

You all still don't understand why exactly she wants Arceus, if she isn't interested in making changes to the world.

Cynthia laughs at you.

"Because if I capture the Creator, then I will be the strongest trainer in all the world!"

All of this just for some stupid trainer title?

Cynthia rants again while throwing more backstory to us.

She and Cyrus had a battle similar to the one Hau and the MC had in USUM, one to decide who would become the Champion. And Cyrus won.

Cynthia didn't take defeat quite well. Her reputation as a strong trainer was tarnished. Her social status and villas in every region were lost. All because this weirdo "got lucky"!

Cyrus apologizes.

"Hu?"

Cyrus had no idea the title meant so much for her. Sure, he wanted the title, but it was just because it was a promise he did to "an old friend" back on his early childhood. If he had known the Championship meant way more to her, he would have surrendered.

Cynthia thinks he is looking at her as so inferior she needs his pity, and gets even angrier.

A pokémon battle for the fate of the worlds starts!

You defeat Cynthia.

Cynthia doesn't understand. She just can't understand. Losing to Cyrus on a Champion battle was one thing, but you haven't even finished the Gyms, how could you defeat her?!

Now with all her pokémon fainted and no revives to spare, she can't even try to fight Giratina.

"Fine! Whatever! May all as well rot in this place! No way none of us gets out now!"

You spot Giratina nearby.

Cyrus thinks you may have a chance against it, if your battle against Cynthia just now was proof enough of the strong bonds you can make with pokémon. Sure Giratina will see both that and your strenght as a trainer.

You go and fight Giratina and win. This is a lineal plot now so you have to capture it and it gets added to your party.

Cynthia can't fucking believe it.

She finally loses her marbles and tries to take away from you the pokéball Giratina is on. After all she did all the hard work to find it, what business you have with it except being a kid with a pokédex?

Cyrus has to intervene and pushes her away from you.

Cynthia takes a bad step because of it and Distortion World dynamics screw her up, making her fall to an uncertain fate.

There is no time to waste though, so you use Giratina to get back to your own world.

Cyrus gives a small speech about spirit and emotions, and how they lead to Cynthia's demise.

"They are quite frightening, and can be ugly sometimes. But I guess without those ugly emotions, we wouldn't be able to experience the beautiful ones. That must be what means to be human after all."

You part ways, with Cyrus wishing you luck on your challenge and saying he waits for you at the League.

You go and have the Champion battle against him.

You win, and he says he is proud of your progress.

He almost tells you he is happy to have met you, but stops himself before he can say it all out loud. He isn't quite ready for that stuff, not yet.

Hall of Fame and credits roll.

Kalos (well this one is actually a bit different)

You start your journey just fine. Meet with this cool young professor who wants you to help him study Mega Evolution.

You then meet Lysandre, who after seeing your pokédex realizes you are working with his good friend Sycamore. He is also helping him on his research. He gives you a cool Holo Caster update to stay in touch and so you can send Mega Evolution data to them.

The encounter with Lysandre and Diantha in the Café Soleil still happens, but is a more amicable chat about how a movie star can get roles in different niches if she just ages normally instead of remaining "young" forever, and how that is beautiful in it's own way. First clue that Lysandre isn't batshit insane here.

Lysandre tells you his lineage's story and the Ultimate Weapon on his café, but instead of using it as a "THEY ARE FILTH" monologue he uses it as a moral about current events.

The Ultimate Weapon "cleaned" the region from the "undesirable" back then, but he thinks that is a coward path.

He wants to believe Kalos is beautiful, but the truth is, it isn't.

The glamorous Kalos we know is because the region is making it's best to hide away the poor and homeless people and pokémon from tourists and visitors, just to preserve this fake image of Kalos being all nice.

Lysandre doesn't agree with this, and wants to help everyone so there is only happiness and real beauty in Kalos. 

Well that was motivational and sad, but you have no time for this, you have to go around collecting some stones!

You go around getting your Key Stone and Mega Stones just as normal.

With the updated Holo Caster you send every piece of data you get everytime you Mega Evolve your pokémon, and Sycamore is happy. If you don't use too much Mega Evolution -or at all- Sycamore at first tries to encourage you to use it, but later starts to get annoyed by your lack of cooperation.

Eitherway, Sycamore is doing progress with his research with or without your help, and he shares some stuff with you.

He sometimes calls to just tell you about his own standards on beauty tho. It is all Holo Caster and chill until he slips some bigoted small remarks, like how creepy it was that some kid on rags approached a woman near a café. Stuff like that that may not be anything but still triggers some red lights.

On your way on Route 15 Lysandre calls you, and asks you to meet him in the Lost Hotel up north.

There he tells you he is a bit worried about Sycamore. He is noticing him acting strange ever since he began to make actual progress with his research on Mega Evolution. He has noticed some weird movements on his businesses too ever since.

You tell him about what you have noticed on his calls too, and Lysandre for a moment begins to connect some dots, but dismisses them almost immediately. No way his friend would be capable of such things, he says.

You continue your travels to Anistar City, when a Holo Caster call reached every single trainer in the region.

The figure on the Holo Caster can't be seen due to some noise in the signal, but the message is quite clear: The Ultimate Weapon will be revived and used to erase from existence all those pariahs that ruin Kalos' beautiful image.

Immediately after that call ends, Lysandre calls you. Looks like someone took over his Labs and he asks you to come help him since there are too many grunts guarding the place and he can't fight everyone in there while trying to get back in.

You manage to get in, and there you find Sycamore. 

Sycamore notices Lysandre isn't as shocked as he thought he would be. Lysandre admits that he did know what was going one after talking with you at the Lost Hotel, but he didn't want to believe it. He didn't want to believe his dear friend was using him and a bunch of kids for such an ugly goal.

Sycamore is actually hurt by those words. 

He reminds Lysandre of what he would always talk about, about how ugly Kalos actually is because of all that people who can't contribute anything to society.

He saw his dear friend suffering over this, and he wished he could help him somehow.

His research on Mega Evolution was totally scientific at the start, but then he started to notice some links it had to the Ultimate Weapon.

It all made sense after all. It was fate™, you could even say.

Mega Evolution was the product of the remnants of the Ultimate Weapon, which is why it is only found in Kalos. What a beautiful region Kalos is indeed. And yet, not every pokémon was able to reach such a state.

If Sycamore can get his hands on the Ultimate Weapon, he can both liberate even more energy to make every single species reach Mega Evolution, all while killing all the unproductive people that are the source of his friend's suffering.

This isn't what Lysandre wanted at all, and he is mad that Sycamore would think such an idea, knowing his hatred for the Ultimate Weapon and what it did to his ancestors.

Sycamore of course believes everything will be worth it in the end, and he will find a way to forgive him.

But for now the chat must end. He already got what he was looking for in the labs, and now he had to leave to his real destination: Geosenge Town.

The professor calls on two masked guys to make up time for him to leave.

You defeat these guys who look similar to Dexio and Sina (totally not them, right?), and Lysandre wonders what could Sycamore be looking for in his lab.

He then remembers about the suspicious movements he found some days ago, and goes to check out.

You find AZ in the usual place as in XY. Seems Sycamore was paying way too much attention to Lysandre's ocassional history lessons, and was searching for the immortal king too. AZ tells us Sycamore already took the key for the Ultimate Weapon, and asks you to stop him.

You all leave to Geosenge Town.

You go down the base where everything where everything is already in motion.

Sycamore is a more practical man, he doesn't waste time with buttons.

Lysandre tries to reason with him. The weapon takes energy from a Legendary pokémon, yes, but for the scale Sycamore wants, it also takes away the life energy of pokémon near the place. Part of his plan could backfire on him if he keeps going.

"Well I think we can live without Bunnelby and Diggersby"

Lysandre challenges him to a fight to distract him, so you can go to where the Legendary is and hopefully stop the weapon.

You go and catch your Legendary, only for Sycamore to show up immediately after.

He doesn't need a Dr. Octopus outfit, he is a more practical man and can beat the shit out of champion level trainers by himself, being a professor and all.

The pokémon battle for the destiny of the world starts!

You win the battle. But that doesn't really mean you have stopped him, does it?

Lysandre shows up, still beaten up from the fight, and still tries to talk Sycamore out of this. It isn't too late to stop this nonsense. He will forgive him. Just leave the Ultimate Weapon alone and let's work together to make a beautiful world where nobody needs to be sacrificed.

Sycamore for a moment thinks about the offer, but realizes there isn't any future left for him after all what he has done. Lysandre and the protagonist may forgive him, but the world surely won't.

"You have a minute"

He activates the Ultimate Weapon. It doesn't really have much energy left, but is enough to destroy the whole place.

You have to take Lysandre out by force, since he didn't want to leave without Sycamore.

You manage to get out, but Geosenge Town is a mess.

Lucky thing everyone managed to evacuate those box houses and make it to safety.

Lysandre doesn't say anything. He doesn't even move from his place. It has been too much to process for just one day.

Oh yeah you get a parade. Yay!

Without a professor, things are quite messy in the whole region, but please don't let that stop you from continuing your pokémon adventure.

You defeat the E4 and make it to the Champion's room.

It is empty.

But there is a note for you.

It asks you to go to Lysandre Café.

You go there and meet Lysandre.

He asks you to forgive him, but he didn't really feel like going to the League after all what happened.

He gives you a long talk about his friendship with Sycamore. How they both met when they were younger and studying. Sycamore would become the regional Pokémon Professor while he would go and invent gadgets at his own company to help improve the life of humans and pokémon.

If he was told at that time what would have happened a few days ago, he wouldn't believe it. In fact, he still can't.

This is all a bad dream and he will wake up at any moment, with papers all around him and Sycamore mocking him for not getting proper sleep.

But he knows very well that's not the case.

It can't be helped. What's done is done and there is no going back.

But you don't want to keep listening to the sorrows of a sad man, do you? You are here for your final challenge.

You have your battle for the Championship and win.

After getting an extravagant parade for saving the region, this is quite an unceremonious event. Not that it bothers you tho. There is some beauty on keeping things simple.

You still get registered in the Hall of Fame, and Lysandre asks you to hold the Champion title with respect.

Credits roll.

Honorary mention to Johto, which was just the idea of Lance being like his manga counterpart and Giovanni taking the 3 years timeskip to become a researcher and the champion too.

As avowed, today shall begin my chronicles, logging magic knowledge and my personal activities. Where possible i will provide resources, and a lot of my information can be found elsewhere on my blog in other posts! 

As usual I didn’t wake up into 4:20, which is a lit more distressing than it is funny, actually, and since I’m lazy, i ordered a pizza and watched the latter half of a Thor movie, WHICH got me thinking about winter and it’s gods! 

History Time:

As I’m sure many, but probably not all, of you know, Yule and Christmas and Hanukkah all contend for time in December (though i don’t see why we can’t all just get along) But they all used to be during different times! Yule used to be in mid January, Christmas was late spring, and....i actually don’t know about Hanukkah, so I’ll do some research and get back to you (or you can drop me a line and teach me!) After Emperor Constantine legalized Christianity in the first century, it spread through the empire, and once it was made the official religion of Rome, people started spreading the good word (for better or worse).

What the priests and monks did was migrate the real date of Jesus Christ’s birth to winter to better line up with the Yule Festival, the Druid Alban Arthuan, and Saturnalia, which had previously been the Empire’s Winter festival celebrating Saturn/Kronos, lasted for 7 days, and let all classes and races interact equally in ancient Rome and it’s colonies. By grouping the ‘Wild Northerners’ festval and the old Roman festival together with the new official religion of the Empire, the Christian church managed to ease a transition of power through the late 1st century and dark ages. 

So what does this tell us? Other than a lot of aggressive anti-whatever-religion-i-am-not stuff, multiple festivals were celebrated in winter. It was a time of feasting, peace, and revelry where everyone was seen as equal and good, which is a comforting thought. There was a whole lot of meat to feast on, since feed for the animals was short, there was no war or battles (George Washington is an outlier and should not be counted), and the night was long, which meant everyone was inside around their fires and candles, with nothing to do but eat. 

This meant there was singing and dancing, lots of drinking alcohol, laughter and games, and, my personal favorite, story telling. People would gather in the largest house in their village, or in their family’s main house, the town hall maybe, and feast and celebrate. Obviously in places like Egypt where there was no snow, things were a bit different, but as Yule was a mostly northern Germanic and Scandinavian festival, we can comfortably exclude the Egyptian’s (for the moment). This was a time of unity and connection. Check your weapons at the door, give the poor money and food, unite in revelry and sing loud enough the ceiling shakes. 

Saturn (or the Greek Kronus/Chronos) was the center of the festival Saturnalia, as he was the titan king of time. Demeter and Persephone would also receive tithes, as Proserpine was in the underworld with old Pluto, and Demeter was moping in the overworld. It was a time of renewal and rebirth, sacrifices for  a return of the light and quick return to spring. The Norse Aesir also got their fair share, Loki among them, as he was both the snow they fled and the fire they thrived on. Odin, as cheif of the Aesir and the Allfader was of course top of the list, leading men on the hunt and sitting at the head of the table for feast. Thor and his goats got involved, and everyone prayed and worshiped the sun goddess, in hopes that she would be reborn and return. And the Christians celebrated St. Thomas day and the relocated birth of Christ festival

Traditions:

Yule was chiefly a festival for rebirth, the end of the old year and birth of a new one. As the Winter Solstice is the longest night of the year, early cultures who lacked knowledge of a round Earth found the briefness of the sun distressing if not downright terrifying. So they worshiped their sun deities while placating their winter deities and hoped and prayed. Lucky for them the days got longer shortly after after even if the winter carried on. 

In order to preserve the power of nature subdued under all that snow, people would bring in evergreen boughs, winter plants and greenery to decorate their homes, which is now the boughs of holly, trees, and garlands we know so well. The survival of life was crucial and these evergreen boughs gave both hope and joy, since everyone knows there’s nothing quite like the smell of a pine tree. 

The giving of gifts started relatively simpler than presents, but as a gift of money, food, clothes, or some other item someone needed desperately. Inviting the poor into the homes of the rich to feast and be warm and safe in this dark time was a tithe to your fellow man and to the gods. This was especially prevalent in Scandinavian culture, since Odin was known to walk about disguised as an old man and they who brought him into their home would be richly rewarded on good fortune or more practical payment. 

Story telling. In a time where there were little to no roads, freezing weather, and only the rich had horses, donkeys or steeds of that kind, travelers were considered stupid, brave, or both. In the old days, many of these travelers were bards and storytellers. They too were invited in, bringing familiar tales everyone knew but the very youngest, always with a new element or twist, or else tales of far away from different lands. In exchange for a warm bed and a good meal these bards spun tales of the gods, heroes, magic, and adventure. 

The gods and God:

 Being Omnitheist (a tale for another day), I have a very peculiar look at how the old gods and the Abrahamic gods interact. but looking at it from a step back, we can all agree to some extent that Christianity moved throughout the empire pushing out the old gods to make way for He Who Is Three (the Christian God). For better or worse, those are the facts. However, clearly, we haven't forgotten them and they are still with us. No one is the good guy or the bad guy, no one god is to be blamed for what has happened (though I think some of the tricksters and lords of chaos and conflict are in the line of fire for recent events) And Yule, of all time sis when people should band together in acceptance and love. I guarantee, your personal deity will not damn you to punishment if you hug someone with different religion this holiday season.

The Balance of Dark and Light:

In my opinion, the saddest truth of the universe is that no matter how much we wish it, we cannot have joy without sorrow, happiness without pain, or Light without Dark. The world must stay balanced, not necessarily perfectly balanced in a single position, as this generated stagnation such as the Egyptians experienced. In order for the motion of the world to continue, there must be loses followed by victories allowing the scales of Dark and Light to tip and lean, never upending themselves but never still. 

Furthermore, Dark is not always Bad, and Light is not always good, but again, that is a tale for another day. 

Yule is a time of balance, of rebirth, it is the darkest time of year when the world is (supposedly) buried in snow and cold, the darkness hounding every moment and shows the end of time. And the beginning. This is a time of unity, compassion, camaraderie. Now is a time for love and acceptance, rich and poor, old and young from every culture, religion, background, race, and place. Soon a new year will come, bringing fresh flowers and sunshine and beauty and light. But for now we band together, Halfway through the dark.

As For Me:

I gave up on Christmas a long time ago. I won’t tell anyone to stop celebrating it and i will not forget what it’s supposed to celebrate but for my Christmas has too many dark memories, now more than ever. But Yule! my souls sings the praises of winter and snow and shadow. Yule is my chosen winter festival, though some may choose to celebrate them all! So tonight, for the first time in longer than i care to admit here’s my game plan:

My alter is actually my bedside table. i do use it as such, however, as soon as i lay my alter cloth there, it becomes a sacred space. Tonight, my alter will have acorns for rebirth, a small oak branch that fell on my head once, a pumpkin from Samhein, a variety of crystals including bloodstone (which is good for yule) and moonstone (because i love it). my candles will be white tea lights, here used for purity and peace, and some moon water and fruit as an offering to the gods of winter, rebirth, snow, and spring.

by ‘play’ i mean revelry in as classic a form as i can. I have chocolate lava cakes in the fridge, there’s pizza in there and my room mate is also cooking. I’m going to listen to some old timey music and watch a couple movies about witch craft and yule magic. I can give out a list of that stuff if y’all’d like to know what i have in mind. I’ll do a little casting on myself. I’ll probably sing and read a bit and maybe convince my friend to go walk with me and play Pokemon GO. That may seem out of the mood, but going outside in the night, feeling the yule energy and saying hello to every tree i pass is something I feel is important. Catching the 10 new Hoenn region Pokemon they just released is just an added bonus. 

Above all Yule is a time for rebirth. Now is when you wanna cleanse and rework your wards, shields and protective spells. It’s a time for new ideas and concept, staring a new journey! Now is a good time to start new projects and become a better you. I have faith in you.

The Hosts in 20 Years

So there was  a prompt over on the subreddit and i thought I’d share my entry here.

Red: Was never one for the massive following he got. He did love to think that he was able to bring so many to the light of Helix's teachings, but they should be following HELIX not him. Used the fight with AJ to fake his death, and after getting Abe back home, his bro helped him find a good place to build a monastery hidden in the mountains. His followers are some of the most zealous, but he doesn't mind because he's the worst since it's a much smaller group. Abe and their mom are just glad to know where he is and write more often than risk visiting.

AJ: After "murdering Red", he had several years and a heck of a time proving his innocence on the matter. Honestly, he'd be proud to admit it if it didn't mean basically losing EVERYTHING either due to being hunted down by Red's followers (which he's had enough of that already) or the stigma from his friends and family to learn he'd actually killed someone, so he eventually managed to convince the courts that there wasn't enough evidence to say whether or not Red's reported death was his fault. While there is still speculation, he's managed to live a mostly quiet life. 20 years later, he's telling his adopted kid about his wild tales on the road and lauding himself how it's because of him that Johto is at least much safer than it used to be when the Church of Helix was at it's peak.

A-chan: If her addictions haven't killed her, after 20 years, she's probably been through rehab a few times on mandate. Her wild and reckless streak has toned down, but she's still quite the pistol you don't want to mess with. It's been debated for years just how much damage her and her team actually caused for Hoenn, whether talking about the societal structure, the economy, or property damage, and even more so in wondering if all their work was "for the better" or not. Gets compared to Alice a lot as far claims of totalitarianism goes, but no one can deny that Hoenn has at least been peaceful since she took out Aqua, Magma and the League.

Alice: Pokemon Professor, no surprise, but she is THE authority of Commewnist Kanto. Green is also a professor, usually the one dealing with starting trainers and such, but most kids know that if or when they're ready to go into an academic career instead of being just another trainer, they'll probably be meeting with her eventually.

Napoleon: Even if he doesn't like to show it, he's surprisingly close with those of his inner circle. His friends, his family, his Pokemon, he just seems to like traveling a lot with them or to visit them for some reason or another while keeping his life very private from the public. When he does show up though, it's usually as a major Sinnoh event (like the League games or Rapidash Races) or when opening new venue. He sure does still own a lot of different kinds of gambling venues (like his Aunt Gracie has a place named after her since she's long since retired as a Rhyhorn Rider) and he sure does know how to throw one hell of a party, but after 20 years he's not big on the dance riots. He still enjoys a good dance riot, and many will say to see any of the family dance is a real treat, but he tends to just feed off the energy of the room than participate.

Aooo: It is a mystery! 8O But seriously, while she does have a family to take care of, how she does so is anyone's guess since she doesn't work but instead will go off for hours by herself and somehow come back with stuff for them. With her wife being a big name movie star, most just assume that money isn't the issue, but where she goes all day leaves people guessing. Never shows up at Sabrina's movie premiers either, at least... not on the red carpet. People always report seeing her at the theatre, but for some reason no fan or tabloid has ever be able to prove it on camera.

Jimmy: While he may have gained such notoriety as an internet star and has had his fair share of ups and downs with the Media trying to bring up his ties with Plasma in the past, he's learned not to let it get to him. After 20 years Plasma has long since been gone, he was the one to take them down in the first place, the former and even current gym leaders support him and often guest star at his online or real life charity events, and it seems when it's not some charity event he's in the papers for, it's his on-again-off-again relationship with N that's even become something of a joke with his fanbase in taking bets to how long before N runs off again. He's had other relationships, but somehow... somehow this just never "officially" went away.

Cly: While she is still a big name actress, she's not as active as she used to be. She's a lot more meticulous in her roles and only seems to show up for either big-budget projects or films she really feels passionate about the script. And she can do that because she's got a clothing line and several music albums that seem to take up most of her time anyway.

D: Hilariously, while he failed as a fashion designer, he's a really great detective. It's just, most people don't realize this. As a member of the Looker Bureau, he's got a code-name like the others, and his investigations often seem to coincide with his love and knowledge of high fashion: jewelry theft, accusations of plagiarizing from between big name stores, getting asked for his opinion on cases where articles left at the scene might be crucial evidence of a bigger picture, ect. Nevermind the rumors that the only reason he's not on the streets yet is because his royalty family keep his otherwise lavish lifestyle funded, he likes the thrill of the hunt and it's kept him both well off and entertained between attempts at a "real" business. Pepe gives him a hard time in saying that by now Richard is failing on purpose. He should know how to art, it is really not that hard. Says the one with possibly literal god-given talent. Lay off him, jerk. XP

Arty: As I've mentioned before elsewhere, married to May (no, not M A Y but the Birch girl he traveled with during his time in Hoenn) and was at odds with her brother Orlando for quite some time but has since reconciled. HOWEVER, Orlando is still unsure how May even puts up with Arty after all these years because the guy has never held a steady job in his life. Sure he can always fall back on his music, but considering most people are asked what their fall back is when they want to get into music, that's saying something. The guy has done the rock star thing, the small business thing (several times really, from making t-shirts to breeding rabbits), the published writer thing (he did have an autobiography book published recently, but that was with a ghost-writer and sales were decent at least) and even the mafia thing. Not that he was bad at the mafia thing, but he just didn't think he was up for all this "shady business" when he craved the spotlight. Rumors still swirl around that he's got ties to the mafia, but oddly, despite all evidence, most general public just looks at that and laugh it off.

Abe: After finally making it home, stayed home for quite a long time just sort of helping out around Kanto. Helping Red get his place built and up and running, it kind of reminded him how much he missed traveling and exploring the uncharted territories of the world. Still, after all the trouble he ran into, he takes some baby steps at first in just making better maps of the Kanto and Johto region. 20 years later, he's a leading name when it comes to cartography and is quite the established architect too, having dozens of blueprints seen in buildings around the world for some of the most surreal looking structures. Got a dream? Let him take a look at the landscape in mind to get this thing started.

Baba: Like A-chan, if she's not dead, she's probably left quite a mess in her wake. Baba however was never as aggressive as A-chan was, and while her time as President was seriously controversial, many of Chengdu don't blame her for the circumstances as she inherited a mess to begin with. If she didn't pull the trigger, it would have been someone else (possibly was someone else considering the mysterious circumstances to when she left office.) For all she did wrong with the ongoing war with Orre, she did a lot of good in the way of equality for Elfs, Half-elfs, and the humans still leery about them. After 20 years, she's done quite a bit of travel anywhere other than her home country, and has settled down quite nicely in a house by the sea when she's actually home.

Amber: The ever faithful cleric still finds trouble making Sanae as big a thing as anything with the Fossil Pantheon. However, she's found quite a following none-the-less and has found much better tolerance among other "small" religions such as the fading Weather worshippers in Hoenn.

Athena: While she's never given up the fight for equality for her people, it's been a long and tiring fight nonetheless. Others have been able to take up the mantle for her, large gatherings taken up with more powerful or outspoken leaders. She writes a lot, but spends most of her time traveling with Amber since her own work can be done from anywhere whereas Amber seems to following her calling.

Nina: ...Oh Nina. Where do I even begin? -Ahem- After 20 years, she's finally managed to return home to find that Hoenn is FINALLY safe. While it could take a lifetime for things to finally return to normal, at least they can handle anything that's still lingering. Handle being the key word there. There's always still a lot of work left to do though. On the upside, there's no longer a sense of urgency for fear of impending doom, so the things she and all her network of friends has to focus on now is stuff that takes time. Stuff that she couldn't actually help with no matter how much she wanted to. Stuff that, for her at least, will have to wait. So in the meantime, there's a lot of trying to settle into a semi-normal life. But at least for all the "... what now?" that permeates the region, everyone is willing to work together to solve this.

A7: Like many have said, he never really could settle down. Not that he had some purpose he was chasing like Amber or Abe, he just doesn't know how. He's at least come to peace with his past though, and has long since come to accept that there's a whole lot of people who actually do care about him. He spends a lot of time going from one couch to crash on to another, and while his friends may not necessarily like it, they're always glad to see him when he passes through.

Alpha: ...|D;;; -AHEM- Well not taking anything else into account, I'm sure he's grown up to be a fine young... teen. It's not that he doesn't age, but due to a lot of his cybernetics and chemical changes, his body just doesn't respond normally anymore. It's been odd seeing his little sister grow up and surpass him, but his physical form has had done little in stopping him from becoming a high ranked researcher at the Pokemon HQ. And hey, he can still do a heck of a lot more than most people can, so his smaller stature has never been an issue either. He's had a lot of identity issues to overcome, but over the past 20 years, he's figured that there's a lot of stuff he can do to help in the region's recovery and gods know he's got plenty of time to do it.

Evan: Is basically a god. Timelines or not, I can't see him as anything otherwise. Shared the burden of Olden's power he inherited with Azure, and the two do a lot of minor meddling in the world to keep it functioning. He's WAY more chill about things than Olden ever was though, and has been rather curious and pleased to see how over the next several decades after being named supreme overlord that the Glitches have somewhat been accepted by the world. It's not necessarily peacefully, it's almost like any story where you have lots of mythological creatures being real. The "old wives tales" have proven quite useful to people who have learned that "If you see a -glitch- you can protect yourself with a pouch full of basil! / If you encounter one, it could prove quite lucky and make you a very wealthy person indeed! / They're actually very curious little things you might see out of the corner of your eye. They disappear if you ignore them long enough." He tries to keep them in line more often than he goes meddling in human affairs anyway. Even he, though, has become something of a legend among people as they may swear that sometimes, sometimes, you may see a ripple in the fabric of reality where the Glitch King has passed through recently.

Paul: He made it to the top! CEO of his own company, lots of friends, lots of adventures! ... So why did he feel like his journey was so... lackluster compared to the others? He's heard plenty of the other hosts, I don't doubt he's probably met a few of them, but hearing their stories compared to his own, it seemed... dull. But then again, he was a lot older than any of them when he started, so maybe the journey just seemed a lot less "magical." Or perhaps it was because of his friendship with the Glitches, that there seemed to be a lot less danger? Sometime in the first 10 years, he goes to take a personal journey for some soul searching for what he felt he was missing. After 20 years, he's long since returned home feeling empowered by what he's learned, and his company has been flourishing.

Pepe: By far the most quiet and reserved of his family, it constantly surprises people he's also the friendliest. Whenever there's some kind of major event, chances are he's there. Hiding out in the crowd, somewhat mingling along the outskirts to admire the building's decore or take a fascination with the party's theme, but he's very rarely one to instigate conversation. Should someone approach him though, he's not one to turn them away. He claims to own the dance floor. Napoleon highly disagrees, but it's more a matter of opinion since they have VERY different styles when it comes to dance. Over the past 20 years, he's realized that there's oddly a LOT of perks to being in his brother's shadow. He can shirk off most of political duties Napoleon has to deal with, and takes advantage of the fact that most people don't seem to care about him as much. He's not a major leader, he's not a party animal, he's got a fairly steady love life, and he's quiet about it. The news finds him dull usually, and intriguing to realize there's a certain air of mystery about him. Otherwise, he spends a lot of time off by himself, with his work, with his faith, and holding close the secret he's had since he was a child about the whole Artisan ordeal the world has long since forgotten about.

Cyan: In a constant state of "Dad pls" even after she's managed to get him to step down as Champion and has him offering advice whenever she rants to him whether she actually asked for his opinion or not. Her family still loves to get away from things every now and then, camping trips, exploring their "territories," her trying to prove to her parent that the Glitches are really sweet... that's not been going well, but they admire her for it anyway. After 20 years, she's quite the leader now and has spent a lot of time trying to clean up Naljo/Rijon political system. Probably goes golfing with Paul occasionally as an excuse for them to complain about Host things that no one else could ever understand.

Nigel: While he's settled down in Alola, he's never given up his Ranger ways and spends a lot of his time working in conservation efforts and working with other regional leaders about just what they could do to help out in a more grand scale preservation effort on some of the world's most delicate species.

Devin: Devin is uh... Okay, so 20 years from now, he... There's really no telling with him. While he does most likely have a bird sanctuary, he's got several other things he runs as well. His hyperness has thankfully gone down with age, but his eagerness has never waned and he's a World Tournament super star as his thirst for battle has only grown with each new region he gets to explore. Movie star? Maybe once or twice, and getting to meet Cly is certainly a good motive, but only because he can't turn down a good challenge. (She still kicked his ass btw, though in a coordinated for film fight, they loved to show off and keep it rather even.) He still lives in Alola though, and very rarely stays away for more than a few weeks at time because he does feel like he has a lot still to do there. WHERE in Alola is anyone's guess since he tends to just show up on the different islands at random, but a lot of people joke that he's probably got a bed set up in his office at the sanctuary. He's no longer Champion though due to how much he travels, but still stays in touch with all of the would-be Champions that have tried to take his place (except Faba, he will gladly kick him out of the seat the MINUTE he finds out Faba succeeded in becoming champ -shot- ).

X-man: Whoo boy, I hate to say it, but the rate technology advances, after the first decade most of his features have probably become obsolete. After 20, if he's not in a museum, you know that finding parts and storage drives has become nearly impossible due to the increasing rarity of finding such tech in good condition. He might still be functioning though, even if only as a display for how things were back then. There's been newer models since then, sleeker, more human looking models too, but even if the team found a way to transfer all of his data to the new robot, it's just not quite the same. New!X-man probably has looked at the old model in the display and smiles sometimes as he still remembers the journey. Every. last. input because his data files are accurate and doesn't allow for such nostalgia, but even he has to sometimes wonder at the grandmotherly parrot on his shoulder how the hell they managed to do it?

Poké Ball: First introduction to Pokémon

The anime! I don’t remember the first episode I ever saw, but I remember watching Mewtwo Strikes Back as a kid and I have distinct memories of pausing episodes of the Hoenn arc and redrawing the frames :0 And I remember the first movie I ever saw on release day, Jirachi Wishmaker! I wrote a note and hung it on my door to remind myself and I watched it on Cartoon Network and it was so cool as a kid being able to see it the first time it aired in the US :’)

Friend Ball: Favorite rival/companion

In terms of traditional has-the-starter-strong-against-yours rivals, Silver is a definite favorite. I enjoy his character and the growth that’s there, he has a good design, I like that he’s one of the classic rivals who’s fairly antagonistic, and oh man. Father walking out on him as a kid? #relatable lmao. I’m planning on him having a prominent role in Recovery, the second of two Nuzlockes I’ve been working on on and off over the past few years, alongside Kris and Gold, as one of the few characters who weren’t completely fukt by the events at the end of Retribution; No spoilers, but Red makes Bad Choices and things Go To Shit??? It’ll be a shame cutting all his hammy ass speeches like the Trashy Man speech since I’m playing Vietnamese Crystal, but I have a lot in mind for these two runs and I’m lowkey really hyped about em, so it’s worth it!

With regards to recurring-antagonists-but-not-quite-a-traditional rival, I gotta hand it to N! They made a really interesting character out of him imo, and I think most of the fandom will agree. I like that he sincerely considers himself to be the good guy even while actively opposing the protagonists, and that he’s not just in it for power or anything silly like that, but simply because he believes his way to be the best for the very creatures that make their world special. He’s another character featured prominently in a Nuzlocke of mine, this one being mostly finished in terms of planning! The protagonists of that run are actually all Pokémon, led by two who did suffer at the hands of a cruel trainer prior to the events of the game - They actually start off trusting N and attempting to spread his message of liberation. Because really, N’s not entirely wrong, at least in a world where the ownership of Pokémon is portrayed more realistically - In a world where these creatures are normal, everyday things, some people are going to hurt Pokémon and use them just to further their own goals without care for how the Pokémon feel. I mean, shit, even in canon his view’s not entirely wrong. If you’ve played the Orre games, you’ve seen how Cipher basically abused Pokémon to the point that all they knew was violence. When the protagonists have experienced that sort of cruelty firsthand, it’s not unreasonable for them to side with him at first. BUT ANYWAY IM RAMBLING WHAT IM SAYING IS I ENJOY N AS A CHARACTER AND SO HE MAKES THE LIST.

As for just short term companions rather than ones who travel the same sort of path with you most of the game, I like Riley from the Sinnoh games! Granted, I may be biased because of the anime and Aaron in the movie and how I like the Lucario line and the whole aura thing is neat but I just. Like him for some reason? Riley’s cool I’d hang with him. I’d do multi battles with him. I did do multi battles with him actually because I had no friends hghghjggjfkfjb

So yeah in a nutshell I like Silver, N, and Riley lots :0

Premier Ball: Favorite shiny Pokémon

I will always. Always. Have a home in my heart for shiny Audino. My first random shiny (other than a couple that I couldn’t catch coughcoughprepokeballpidgeycoughcoughwallysfuckingshinyraltsthatdoeSNTEVENSTAYSHINYCOUGHCOUGH), in a Nuzlocke, after I lost half my team and was down to only five Pokémon, who carried my team and damn near soloed Ghetsis, tanking a super effective Focus Blast from Hydreigon while underleveled??? I love my beautiful sparkly purple boy he’s.. so good……..
