In the game "Winter's Wish: Spirits of Edo" we have a character in the red district who has a green lipstick, which is pointed out to be very unique and is a trait only this character possess.

As I was making research for a fanfic, completely unrelated to the game, I found an information of how such colour was created back in the days. It is called "Sasa-iro beni" (Bamboo grass red)

Here's the passage :

An unusual make-up style from the time is called sasa-iro beni (bamboo grass red) and was in high demand during the Bunka and Bunsei eras (1804-1830), at the end of the Edo period. The upper lip is painted red, while the lower one appears green. This was achieved by red makeup, beni (a dye derived from safflower) that also turns an iridescent green when thickly applied. Beni, at the time, was a product as expensive as gold and this fashion was, it is said, initiated by geisha who covered their lips daily to show off this luxury. The dye was bought in cups (benizara or benichoko) that were coated inside with this precious substance. To use, it was wiped with a finger, or a wet brush, to spread on the lips in successive thin layers. After use, the bowl was placed upside down on the dressing table to prevent oxidation.

Quite interesting don't you think ? I won't say more in case it will spoil someone, but I hope fellow gamers who play that otome would appreciate this information. (I haven't made research as to how this was created but I like the version in the game)

you think it’s charming the way despite all his sharp lines and rough edges, wriothesley was always a little soft when he wanted to be.

summary. very much inspired by this tiktok. soft wriothesley. fem reader. i love big, rough men with a soft spot so this seemed so perfect for him. fluff. cooking mention. he’s a tease. petnames; princess, baby. one suggestive joke. wc, 1k.

note. honestly this took a different turn that it was originally supposed to but i really liked this idea, i hope you guys too ❤︎

there’s something extremely charming about someone such as wriothesley, all sharp edges and rough lines— also being the same man to hold you now as he wraps himself around you in the middle of the kitchen. even though it may just be the kitchen in the fortress of meropide.

“this was supposed to be a secret, y’know.” you grumble as the duke behind you presses his chest into your back— curiously peeking over your shoulder to watch the meal that you are so adorably preparing just for him on the counter. it was helpful that wolsey seemed to have a certain little soft spot for you, which made getting the cafeteria to yourself for 20 minutes a little too easy.

but your idea to surprise your boyfriend with a nice lunch prepared by yours truly turned to dust when he’d strolled in a few moments later.

“oh yeah? well, nothing here goes unchecked under the duke’s watch. i thought you knew that, princess.” you feel wriothesley smirk against your skin when he leans over you to give your cheek a quick kiss, using the movement as an opportunity to swipe a taste of the delicious meal that you’re basically teasing him with. it earns him a playful smack to his muscled chest as you shrug him off, but it’s barely a tickle against his huge frame before he’s back on you to chuckle.

“that’s stealing! it’s still mine until i give it to you,” your lips pout cutely and it makes something warm burst in your boyfriend chest before he grins,

“oh? a little reverse psychology, huh? well, i guess you caught me. so what now, hm.. you gonna cuff me?” the end of wriothesley’s sentence is deliberately husky and teasing as he breathes it along the dip of your shoulder, large palms squeezing at your waist as he watches goosebumps burst across your skin.

“wrio!”

“i’m kidding, i’m kidding, sheesh— tough crowd tonight.” the way he watches you work is so focused and full of awe, like he can’t believe a pretty little thing like you is taking so much care and love to make him a meal, albeit anything at all. it makes him feel suddenly warm under his heavy uniform as his arms loop around your waist to squeeze.

it only takes a few more minutes before you’re stepping back slightly, urging wriothesley’s frame to follow suit as he watches you spin in his hold with outstretched arms and a smile that he doesn’t think he’ll ever get tired of seeing. “surprise!”

he thinks for such a place, a home as dark and underground as the fortress of meropide— you seem to radiate love and light in a way that makes him feel like he’s underneath the sun again.

but because of who wriothesley is, he plays it cool despite the way your gentle, little act of love makes his heart feel like it’s going to burst out of his chest. although it’s not like the prisoners will even think to comment on him being a softie for you, even if they did see him like this.

“oh, you shouldn’t have.” he smirks and the way he tilts his head down at you makes you feel warm before he’s leaning forward to swipe his finger along the sauce for a taste.

“but i guess we better put it to the test,” your eyes are fixated on the way his fingers press between his lips as he tastes your cooking, leaving you to nervously bite on your lower lip as you try to gauge his reaction. unfortunately, he had a pretty good poker face.

“uh oh,” wriothesley starts and he swears he hears your breathing catch before he continues, biting down the smile that’s threatening to break through on his lips. “what a perfect blend of flavours, i should offer you a job. you gonna tell me your secret?” his teasing earns him an elbow to his ribs as he laughs at the relieved expression on your face, but you manage to pull away from him long enough to have a bite for yourself.

“no! it’s between me and wosley, it’s the secret sauce.”

“ah, that old recipe is still as good as always. pairs real nicely with some tea, might i add.” the moment is intimate despite the way you’re both just sitting in the rundown kitchen in the fortress of meropide, wolsey will be back soon but your boyfriend looks at you like you both have all the time in the world.

wriothesley leans next to you as he takes another bite, letting his free hand rest over your shoulders as he savours his meal. “mm mm, now that is lovely. i outta give my compliments to the chef first hand.” it’s so quick the way he reaches for you, pulling you back until his hand is grabbing yours and he’s spinning you once with a smug grin, then again until you’re tripping against his chest with a laugh.

“i’m sure they’re flattered, your grace.” the nickname is meant as a tease but you don’t miss the way pink seems to dust the tips of your boyfriends ears despite the way it’s mostly hidden behind dual toned hair. you can’t help the victorious little smile that it earns from your lips, before his arms are back on you and he’s deliberately leaning himself in close.

“oh, i do love when you call me that, baby.” wriothesley’s eyes are on yours when he holds you against his chest and spins you again, and you don’t hesitate to wrap your arms around his shoulders as he holds you steady. another smile and your feet are returned back to the ground before your boyfriend is leaning over to kiss you once on the cheek, then again on the lips as he lets himself linger a little longer.

it’s intoxicating, the way he’s nipping on your lower lip— then pressing his tongue between them in a way that makes you feel lightheaded, but it’s also not enough when he pulls away a few seconds later. he was still the duke afterall and this was the cafeteria, he’d make sure to have you both continue where you left off behind the closed doors of his office instead.

so with that thought, he gives you another smirk as his fingers tilts your chin up towards him again.

“ill be sure to treat you to something nice for such a great meal.”

Starting the event quest and the first thing that came to mind was : "Oh, they're using Festival de Cannes."

Then Xavier brought up something closer to Halloween with the "trick or treats" being trials or treats.

But the movie festival clearly is inspired from festival de Cannes

Will I seriously be grinning like a fool everytime as I play Yanagi's route in his After Story?

When I bought the game at first I thought I would only be interested in the poster boy : Tomonari. It happened for a lot of otome that I'm only interested in one character after all.

But well... he was locked...

Then I learn that Ohtaro (who also caught my attention with how particular he was) is a character also blocked and I just got more curious about him.

So I decided to follow for once the recommended routes order.

《  Thoughts about the boys 》

I shamelessly forced skipped Kunitaka's route right away from the common route after I thought "I'm going to revisit this later for Tomonari either way".

I still have no regrets for this decision.

Genjuro was ok, very interesting but I really prefer Yoichi. His bad ending is just... well not what I would wish for someone. It's just sad...

I really enjoyed Yoichi's, he was the one I definitely wanted to read at first out of the 4 open routes. Definitely a cat boy.

Kinji was.... wow. Definitely not what I had thought and he's definitely one of the favourites. By the end I just knew how its sorrow ending would turn out to be but still, it hurt.

Tomonari route.... I think it's because I loved so much Yoichi that got followed by Kinji's plus the fact he's the poster boy, I had a lot of expectations...

The moment that to get the good ending I had to do a choice I wasn't ok with, totally destroyed it to me. Especially because when picking the choice I would had gone for just sent me to bad ending. It definitely made me feel bitter...

Ohtaro was ok-ish in my humble opinion. Don't get me wrong, his route was interesting but the romance could had been different.

This made me think that perhaps the locked routes were not about the romance but more for the lore...

《  Common routes  》

Hands down, Entertainment District is definitely funnier to me and I just loved the duo Kinji-Ohtaro.

However, Suzuno in the Castle Town was more interesting since she learns how to fight there and I couldn't help but think she would had been able to provide more help in the other routes had she been able to defend herself too.

《  Conclusion 》

Kinji's and Yoichi were my most favourite routes in this game. Genjuro comes next and then.... well Ohtaro's, Tomonari and last would be Genjuro's.

But ALSO can we please talk about Miharu and Kyoshiro ? I ship them so hard that I wouldn't had minded a secret route where you just become the matchmaker for those two as you observe (as Suzuno) how they grow closer.

As I read his sorrow ending, at the end I could only think of one thing :

Ghost sex.

Doing Tomonari's route... but I can't help but ship Miharu and Kyoshiro so bad...

You could never help the way your body refused to do anything but melt into Wriothesley's arms. He teases you for it on occasion - even if he doesn't do so with his words. You can feel it in the way he looks at you, the squeeze of his hands at your side, the way he kisses you with a smile on his face.

He does all of these things with an utmost sense of love at the forefront, something you know you'll always feel whenever you're in his presence. You smile to yourself when you feel him press a soft kiss to the top of your head, hand squeezing his a little tighter as you let him guide you through the steps.

There's no music playing - you're simply following whatever rhythm Wriothesley has in his head. If you listen carefully though, you can hear him humming whatever tune it is he's decided the two of you are dancing to.

Neither of you feel the need to say anything. It would take away from the comfort you've found in each other. You can feel the slight puff of air against your skin as he chuckles slightly, the calm rocking you so smoothly that you find yourself stumbling a little as you fall asleep.

When you eventually find your breath steadying itself against his chest, you rest more of your weight against him. You feel him press his lips against yours gently before sweeping you off your feat. Your head makes its home against his chest, settling in further when he lays you down on your bed with his coat draped over your shoulders.

The last thing you remember is the press of his lips against your temple, wishing you a good night and reminding you how much he loves you.
