There are MULTIPLE scenarios where Bruce confides solely in Dick and he actually worries heavily when his only companion leaves:

The Brave and Bold (1955) Issue #197

"My only real friends know me as Batman...Dick, Alfred, Kathy Kane...except..what do I do when Dick graduates college...and Alfred retires...and Kathy gives up being Batwoman? What do I do...when I'm finally alone?"

Bruce...that's a whole lot of pressure and expectation to put on a kid a decade younger than you..

But the point still stands because Bruce needs Dick. In the beginning of the Batman comics, there wasn't even Alfred around. It was just Dick and Bruce and they lived in an entire mansion together by themselves and had dual responsibilities of Dick Grayson and Bruce Wayne as well as Batman and Robin. It was quite literally only the two of them in their own world. They went on adventures you wouldn't believe and had things happen beyond people's wildest imaginations. The Golden Age was a fever dream that encompassed only the two of them. They didn't have anyone else and they didn't want anyone else.

Dick pulled Bruce out of one of the worst times of his life when he was just Robin and Bruce pulled Dick out of depression during his. This resulted in a unbreakable bond. It's a deep kind of unshakable, irreplaceable love and profound trust that they have in each other that the other will only and always be there for them in the worst of times of their lives and the happiest of ones as well.

It's that kind of devotion and attachment to each other that established their relationship for decades. Every single timeline has consistently kept this - "You're my only one." - kind of relationship between the two of them.

For another example, during Death Metal, when the entire Justice League is hunting down Batman and the Batfamily, Bruce would only entrust the deadliest weapon in the world to one person and the entire league knows it.

Bruce just has pure faith in Dick for everything. He is the one person that Bruce believes will never do any wrong and he's the one person he always believes and believes in. Period.

So that is why Dick is the only person Bruce is susceptible to. He never questions Dick in the comics ever. He's questioned every single person he's ever worked with about their intentions but never Dick. So Dick tells him the world is ending then the world is ending for Bruce.

If Dick tells him that red is an awful tie color, then it's an awful tie color that Bruce will never wear.

If Dick tells him to slick his hair back, take a break, be more compassionate, have faith - Bruce will do anything and everything. And this has been proven time and time again for the most menial situations to the most serious ones.

While everyone looks up at Bruce for answers and orders, Bruce will look to Dick and what he says, that's what they'll all do.

And here's the thing - the entire superhero community doesn't rely just on Bruce for commands, Dick is shown to have an equal weight. A single person has the equivalent weight of the Justice League. They will do what Dick says regardless of what Bruce says.

But the point is Bruce's utter faith in Dick gives him privileges. Anything and everything Dick decides, that's the answer, logic, and light of very reasoning to Bruce because Dick is the very source of existence for Bruce. In Forever Evil he almost let the world die intentionally because he felt that there was nothing to the world if he couldn't save Dick. At times he's fought Dick over his personal choices but every single time, without fail, he comes back literally two issues later to tell him sorry and you're right and we're going to do it your way.

Dick could let the world burn to fucking ashes and Bruce would stand by and clap and praise him. That time in the Blockbuster arc? Where Dick passively killed a man and started self-harming? Bruce roughly grabbed his face, got real close, and told him in his darkest voice that he doesn't give a flying fuck who dies or who Dick kills. As long as Dick doesn't dare hurt himself.

Dick can tell Bruce anything he ever wants, lie or truth, big or small, and Bruce will believe it with no doubts and no questions asked. That is the weight of his faith in him. Of course if someone does ask why he chose to do something a certain way? He can just say, "Because Dick said so." And as you called it, that answer alone will be enough. For everyone.

Don't be fooled by Dick's submissiveness to Bruce's commands. Bruce is holding him by the neck, but he's holding Bruce's leash just as tightly.

oh i have a lot of thoughts about alhazred's religion.

firstly, i'm coming at this with my own agnostic catholic muslim background.

second, ive also layered it with historical influence from the Islamic Golden Age as i hc him to be from a sort of fantasy al-andalus (with his ancestor being the original author of the necronomicon, something he would not find out until he began the path to the occult). abrahamic religious scholars, regardless of book, talked to each other so theres some overlap to be considered.

third, this may or may not come up but also another consideration: religious doesnt necessarily mean spiritual. religious, and religion, in a theological and historical context basically means a way of life.

that all being said, lets get into it

i think wrt his religion, he was raised muslim but ultimately is agnostic and has been influenced by other abrahamic religions, and non-abrahamic philosophies, in his practice. i think he was drawn to mysticism through astronomy, as astrological "magic" was a feature in those medieval texts like the picatrix (ghayat al hakim) and knowledge of the sun (shams al maarif). Let's Talk Religion has a video on astrological "magic" that ive yet to watch but i trsut him about the topic bc hes very respectful and has worked with liana alsaif b4 (who is very prominent in the west rn for her studies in the islamicate occult sciences)

its also important to recognize the way religion gets interwoven with culture (hence religion as a way of life, and not just an organization), and that can be hard to separate from anyone. i know plenty of people who dont practice islam anymore but will have some sentiments or practices that remain bc of their upbringing.

i think he talks to the priest at the hamlet's church, and that he prays toward Mecca on a few occasions. i think he sits in the pews and participates on a sunday every now and then. he makes use of holy verses and the names of god, or the prophets and angels, for his talismans.

when he prays, sometimes the black beast or some other entity answers instead. if prayer is like a one-way communication to God, his meddling in the occult has obscured that and opened a two-way with entities from beyond. the true test of strength would be if he can ignore them and fight to deliver his prayer to God

i also wouldnt be surprised if the "dark" entities could maybe be classified as djinn, since in islamic canon djinn live on another dimension on earth and are typically invisible (but can make themselves shown)

i think he also feels some guilt, or shame, for having opened thet connection especially bc his students had to die for it. its buried so deep inside of him thats hes almost over it. maybe. the path he went differs from standard islamic occult science, but he keeps justifying it because he's using it for good. if anything will keep him up at night, it's this. he might pray about it.

since its ramadan ive been thinking about whether or not he fasts for it and i think on any other year he does, but since hes fighting all the time he wont be doing it traditionally. he'll have some goals to work on instead.

whether or not he does, he will follow a lunar calendar. for both religious practices or scientific practices.

i think he and the vestal get along w religious talks, but talking to reynauld is hell (lol) bc hes deadset on his specific way of religion that alhazred avoids the topic altogether with him or does small things to piss him off on purpose.

he will never judge anyone for their religious practices so long as they dont judge him for it. i like to think he is very patient and merciful, as those are some important elements to islam.

i personally operate on the fact that God, according to islam, is the Most merciful entity out there and that whatever i do can be forgiven if i seek redemption. there's a story about a serial killer who goes to heaven about that, one of my faves to pick at the philosophy of. kind of goes with the pope's "i hope hell is empty" statement.

i think alhazred would be the same way though. theres a tiny part of him banking on the probability that God DOES exist, that he will be forgiven because he's ultimately fighting for good. he has also accepted that there is a chance that he will suffer, and that he would deserve it because of what happened to his disciples. he has accepted that his fate will he what it is, and that he will continue his path to find out his end.

when he gets stressed out he counts his prayer beads, and if hes REALLY stressed, guilty or shameful then he'll start meditating (which can be a form of prayer also)

at the end of the day, he is just a scholar fighting to keep the world alive. he's muslim when he has to defend the faith, he may or may not be on any other day.

Anyway- I personally have 3 headcanons for what Stan's middle name could be:

1. Romanoff - Because I'm not sure a 1950s male baby would have been allowed to have a feminine middle name, but I still want him to be named after his mother. Although if paired with a trans Stan hc, I like the idea of his middle name being Caryn

2. Filbrick - Because the twins' genitor got even more lazy with their middle names and decided to just slap those birth documents with the same middle name

3. My tag where I joked about Stan having no middle name made me think about what if Filbrick literally decided to not give his other child any middle name (not sure how legal that is)

I literally wrote all of this and forgot to ask if the Caryn middle name was your hc or if it had been made canon and it slipped my knowledge

Anyway while writing this, I just got hit with a new idea- Filbrick didn't want kids, and even less twins. So, what if he couldn't be bothered with coming up with a name for the 2nd one and gave him as middle name the name of the firstborn ?

As a conclusion to this essay, the Romanoff middle name hc is my fav and I hold it very close to my heart, but in my head the Filbrick middle name hc is more realistic, and it breaks me. The only problem I see with it is that I headcanon Shermie as the older brother, so I don't know why Filbrick wouldn't have given his name to his firstborn (although I can counteract my own argument with- he got the name of one of his grandfathers. That or Filbrick couldn't be less bothered with names he used the same middle name on at least 2 of his children)

i think you can choose not to give your kid a middle name and that'd be kinda funny ngl like "i dont know these two kids' personalities yet because they were born six minutes ago and don't have them. but i like this one more you get a middle name and the other one eh throw him in the garbage idk"

For me, I feel like the only person right for post rumbling Mikasa is Armin.

While I ship mikahisu, I feel like Historia deserves better than a partner like Mikasa because to me, Mikasa post rumbling with be a literal mess and a shitty partner.

She’d be codependent, clingy and obsessive. She’d not take good care of herself and would need someone to coddle her and tell her it’s ok to wallow in her own misery. She’s respectfully fucked up and I feel like she would deny it until the day she dies, but she would need therapy. Not that she would believe in it because it’s my personal assumption that Mikasa would see therapy as a weakness.

For me, Historia just deserves a bit better. She’s been taken advantage of her entire life and she needs to have time to herself so she can figure out what she wants to do with the rest of her life because I’d feel quite honestly, Mikasa would try to dictate her decisions or get her to rush into things she isn’t ready for. I believe that Historia deserves the chance to feel free and not be bogged down by someone else or their problems. She’s been through enough.

Jean wouldn’t work either. He’d get fed up with Mikasa and her inability to take care of herself or seek help as I believe Jean wants a stable partner and the last thing he wants to do is feel like he needs to take care of anyone.

Annie would be annoyed at Mikasa’s constant need for attention and feel as if (like Armin) her boundaries would be crossed all the time and she wouldn’t know how to deal with someone who isn’t willing to work on themselves.

Armin is different. He’s just as fucked up as Mikasa from the manipulation and abuse Eren put them through. Like Mikasa, she (I use he/she/they for Armin. Deal with it) would constantly try to dictate her partners actions and be clingy or obsessive with their every move. Like Mikasa, Armin would rush into things, not take care of themselves and refuse to get help.

Aside from my hc that Armin is a trans woman and probably as a commander, can’t get the gender affirming surgery he needs, I see Mikasa and Armin only trusting each other with their own CSA and shared trauma they went through. They would be miserable together but they would be together because truly there is no more important person to them than themselves. While they deserve to be happy, I don’t see them separated from each other for very long. They are that codependent and it’s a cycle I fear they will never break free from not that they want to.

Because with Armin, Mikasa can be clingy because Armin will be 10x as clingy as she is. Armin would be ready to abandon all their responsibilities to rush to Mikasa’s aid and vise versa. Sure they’d fight, probably every day, it would be messy, chaotic and even abusive at some times but they would Never leave each other. They can’t. They don’t know how. They are each other’s person and even if they were both devoted to Eren, it is ultimately their own bond that transcends.

they’d be shitty partners, they would probably love bomb each other and then divorce in the next day before it’s revealed that on a drunken whim, Armin made it so their marriage was binding. They would be the most toxic yuri couple in Paradis but they still, would not separate. Mikasa needs that. She needs someone who is willing to shoulder all her burdens and share her sins. Armin needs it too. Because who else was there for him in their darkest moments? Mikasa. Who was there for Mikasa when no one else was? Armin.

my point is, I do not care about canon. Arumika are SOULMATES and while I do love most of their ships and freaking adore mikannie and mikahisu, I need my bobby duo to stay together no matter how problematic they are. I've been thinking a lot about the Valdez family—and not just Sammy, Esperanza, and Leo—so I decided to make my own in depth Valdez family list with headcanons (obviously, since some we don't even know the name of)

Sammy Valdez was born in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was the first in his family to be born in the United States, his parents having immigrated from Mexico right before he was born.

Sammy's wife (Leo's bisabuela), Otília Delgado-Fuentes, was born in the Dominican Republic and immigrated to Houston as a teenager with her parents. She met Sammy at his shop when her car broke down and the rest in history. She ended up working the business side of Sammy's shop, selling spare parts, as well as putting in transactions for what Sammy was doing.

In addition to Sammy Jr. (I'm just gonna be calling him Samuel for the sake of simplicity for now on), I think they had three editional kids: the others being Emilio, Aleyda, and Evangelina. Samuel was the eldest, followed by Aleyda, Emilio, and finally, Evangelina.

Samuel, as well as Evangelina, followed in their father's footsteps and became mechanics. Aleyda became a writer, and Emilio helped his mother run the business portion of the shop. Both Emilio and Aleyda decided to attend college, while Samuel and Evangelina did an informal trade school under their father's tutegale.

Aleyda moved away to New York and married a fellow latine writer named Salvador García, and barely keeps in touch with the family. They have no children.

Emilio married a woman named Martha Delacruz and had three children—Silvia, Estefania, and Enrique.

Evangelina never married, instead focusing on her career. She was Esperanza's favorite person when Esperanza was a girl, and her biggest inspiration, and also adored Leo. I haven't decided why or how, but unfortunetely, Evangelina died sometime before Esperanza, because I'm convinced she would have fought tooth and nail to get custody of Leo if she was there.

Samuel, of course, had two daughters, Rosa and Esperanza. Samuel married Margarita Rosa Iglesias-Perez, a Mexican immigrant who went to Houston to attend college.

Rosa, in addition to Raphael (who Leo mentions in Mark of Athena, I believe) has two more children, María Rosa and Carmen with her husband, Matías Cisneros-Cortez.

Esperanza, obviously, has just Leo, who is the eldest of Sammy's great-grandkids, as stated in Mark of Athena. Some childhood Leo Valdez headcanons of mine is that he attended a bilingual school up until third grade (we know why third grade) and that he had to be taken to another classroom during math because he would act out due to boredom. (He has ADHD and was at a college math level at 8, of course he'd be bored.)

These next three are future, or my headcanon for Leo's kids, so if you were just here for the possibly canon-compliant ones, that's over! I'm totally fine with people using the previous name headcanons in fics without giving me credit, as it is just names, but I'd appreciate it if people tell me about some Valdez family fics! I'm always looking for some, and have only read like one or two. However, for Leo's children, if you take more than just their names, I'd appreciate the tag. I've had them since like 2016, and am really attached, even though some details have changed a lot since then (example being, back then, I thought canon couples were infallible and I had to make them Leo and Calypso's kids, when now, they're just Leo's).

This part is detailed in my Solangelo future fic, Surprise? but my favorite hc of all time is aro/ace Leo who adopts demigods to give them the childhood he deserved. So all three are demigods (children of Hephaestus as well, because I think that's fitting) and Leo's a single father who gets help from everyone at Waystation.

The eldest is Madalena Esperanza, who has her own POV in Surprise? in Chapter 7: Leo and Calypso's Garage: Auto Repair and Mechanical Monsters. She was born in Portland, Oregan, and her mother died of childbirth. With no other living family members, Hephaestus took her to Waystation to see if Emmie and Jo could take her (as Leo was still in college, at 20), but Leo saw her and instantly realized that he wanted to adopt her because he saw bits of baby him in her, and had the funds to as he was working part time at a local mechanic shop on weekends that paid decent, and Emmie and Jo were able to help. Madalena was the name her mother had planned to give her, and Leo added Esperanza when he officially adopted her. Random fact about her is she grows up to be an Olympic level skateboarder, and Leo built her a few pipes to practice.

Next, also in Surprise? is Leo's middle, Aidan. His story is detailed almost completely in the fic—his bio mother didn't want a kid and was going to give him up for adoption so Hephaestus went to Leo to ask him if he wanted to adopt another kid. Leo said yes, and him and Lena went to Illinois to pick him up from the hospital. His bio mother also didn't want to name him, so Leo and Lena did.

Finally, not in Surprise? is Emilia. Leo's youngest, who's seven years younger than Aidan, and thirteen younger than Lena, so she's not present in the fic, but is special in my heart. Her bio parent, like Lena's, died in childbirth, and Hephaestus once again asked Leo if he had room for one more kid. She was born in Miami, Florida.

So, there's my Valdez family tree! Again, feel free to use everyone in your fic, but Lena, Aidan, and Emilia are my children so I'd like a tag for them.

Investigation Institute Headcanons

Because these guys are my blorbos and take up a lot of space in my head.

The order of them joining the Institute goes: Night, Umber, Onyx and Azure (joined at the same time), Flint, Raven, Cloud, Seashell. Seashell is notable because while everyone else was a member before canon kicked off, Seashell only joined after Volume 1.

Irratino, Night, and Umber were roommates in college, as were Onyx and Azure. Cloud was there too but was a bit shy and didn’t really talk to anyone, Raven and Flint didn’t go to Deduction College, and Seashell went to a different school in the same area.

None of them really got along with Logico back in Volume 1. This, admittedly, is mostly Logico’s fault, on account of being kind of a jerk back then. He made his disdain for their practices very clear; they, in turn, wondered what the hell Irratino saw in him. Even after Volume 1, Logico isn’t much more than polite acquaintances with the Institute.

I envision everyone in the Institute at around the same age, so early thirties. (If you’re wondering about Cloud and Seashell—Cloud suffers a fair amount of health issues and their hair turned white from stress, Seashell just had the extreme misfortune to go gray early :P)

Whenever one of them gets arrested (usually for murder), Irratino pays their bail money. He has to do this a lot, and is very tired and would like his employees to please behave themselves for five minutes. (Yes I know this isn’t how bail works but shhh)

In spite of how cuckoo all of them can be, the Institute care a lot for and look out for each other; they are each other’s closest friends. Mess with one of them, you mess with all of them. (And considering all of them have killed at least one person, this is a very bad position to be in :P)

Now for some character-specific HCs! Night, as the second person to join the Institute, is basically Irratino’s number two. In practice, this means taking care of most of the Institute’s accounting (Irratino has no hope of understanding math and everyone else is only slightly better), handling day-to-day operations when Irratino’s out for whatever reason, and making sure Irratino can keep to set schedules and doesn’t misplace or forget things (he’s not stupid, but man’s fairly scatterbrained and would probably lose his own head if it wasn’t attached to his shoulders). Since he and Irratino started dating, Logico has largely taken up that last role; Night is less than thrilled about this.

Cloud has a pet snake. Flint has a severe phobia of snakes. This caused some chaos when Cloud went in for their interview, brought their snake with them, and it proceeded to get loose.

Back in college, Umber dyed her hair, changing colors fairly frequently (blue, green, purple, pink, orange, red, that kind of thing). She hasn’t dyed her hair in years, but still has some leftover hair dye.

Onyx and Azure bonded over their shared love of outdoorsy things back in college, and are best friends to this day. This despite their totally opposite personalities.

As an alchemist, Raven often experiments with volatile substances. This has led to more than one explosion and is the primary cause of holes in the chateau that Irratino then has to pay to fix.

Speaking of, it’s been said Raven has two personalities. The first is her outside-the-lab persona, which is fairly normal, levelheaded, and friendly. The second is her inside-the-lab persona, which trades that out for a cackling mad science throw-everything-into-a-blender-and-see-what-sticks shtick. If you are unfamiliar with her, this can be mildly disorienting at first.

The Institute members, being a bunch of nerds, have no muscle mass to speak of. Despite this, and despite being fairly small, Umber and Flint are surprisingly strong. Whenever something heavy needs to be carried, the gang usually goes to them.

Seashell was born and grew up in New Aegis, and knows the area fairly well.

Flint is multilingual, having learned several languages growing up, and can read and speak them all fluently. He’s also fond of using big words, which comes as a surprise to some people given his fairly laid-back way of talking.

The School of Mystery mentions that, in college, Seashell visited Irratino’s house every week to argue with him. In Lily parlance, where Seashell’s a bit unhinged even compared to the other suspects, this translates to Seashell breaking into Irratino’s house every week to debate with him. Seashell found Irratino fascinating. Irratino did not return the sentiment.

On that note (and I had this realization a few days ago and was like “…wait that explains a lot”), Seashell, ah…might actually have something of a crush on Irratino? He finds him an endlessly fascinating individual, and when New Aegis didn’t let him perform dental work anymore (this is what happens when you kill someone :P), he went to the Investigation Institute to get a job there, on account of Irratino already keeping several murderers on staff (Irratino was forced to concede that point, as much as he did not want to). As for the fact that Irratino already has a boyfriend? General consensus is that, much like how Seashell does not realize Irratino is less than fond of him, he does not realize Irratino is in a relationship (because Seashell is kind of a ditz :P)

most of my ideas on her are based on canon, so ive never considered them outlandish enough to call headcanons, but i guess technically pretty much all of my rants about her could be sorted as such, since they try to build on what we already know and extrapolate an analysis. i have too many to list. ill try to compile some here, though. longer ones are under the cut.

i moreso stole this headcanon then made it but i agree that reko cant cook for shit. she lives off takeout and stuff she burnt in the microwave, much to her protective older brother's dismay.

i believe reko was putting on her makeup and styling her hair every morning in chapter 2. again, i stole this one.

i think reko would be really good at video games

reko would be very good at ice skating

despite being good at drawing her eyeliner, i dont think she can draw very well on paper.

reko paints her nails sometimes (she likes the smell) but its always chipped somehow, even if she just painted them.

she doesnt have an extensive (if any) skin care routine (thats more her brothers thing) but she does have a hair care routine after almost frying off all her hair several times trying to bleach it herself. she only dyes her bangs now but she still takes good care of her hair (especially with the way she has to style it everyday).

reko is either out of the bathroom in 2 seconds or she takes an hour because she gets distracted and starts messing with her hair or makeup. it used to drive alice crazy when they both lived with their parents. not now alice, you can go shit in the bushes, reko is using her eyeliner as face paint.

reko tries not to do this when shes working on new songs, but shes the type of person who almost always listening to some kind of music. she loves finding new music and new subgenres.

shes not really a messy person but shes not very neat, either. she usually has trash slowly building up somewhere. nothing 15 minutes of panic cleaning cant fix, but its there.

i think reko made / makes a lot of her own punk clothes and accessories, and generally has frugal habits around her style. it started when she was a teen because her rebelliousness and delinquency led to her being perpetually grounded, so no allowance. shes awful at customer service so she couldnt really get an entry level job. her music wasnt really marketable and she probably didnt have her own band in her younger teens ( i think samurai yaiba was probably only started when she was about to or already graduated high school) so there wasnt much if any income from there. she may have done some odd jobs but they didnt pay much and she was intimidating to people, so it was hard to get gigs. all this led to her getting good at sewing, dying, bleaching and otherwise making her own clothes. probably owns a bunch of pins, studs, and zippers in bulk just to sew onto stuff. i think the same thing applies to her make up- she uses fancier water / sweat proof on stage, but off stage? dollar store eyeliner and foundation. she doesnt care about the risks, she goes through her make up too fast to bother with the fancy stuff.

reko has an impressive memory generally, but when she struggles with it, she makes little songs or rhymes to help her remember (she did this to sometimes help her speed memorize for tests in school. then, she had to whisper-sing it under her breath and swing her foot to the beat and itd be all you could hear in the test room, and shed either get in trouble or just be really embarrassed).

speaking of school, i dont think reko went to college or post secondary school; in ytts theres a whole thing about her hating school. but aside from that, the timing would be really tight. shes canonically 23, samurai yaiba was 2 1/2 years ago, so she wouldve been 20-21, and you graduate high school at 18. i cant say i know a lot about japanese college, but if it has the same status of degrees as in the US, it wouldnt really make sense for her to have gone to college- she was likely a drop out or never went in the first place.

i think reko has some burner account(s) where she dumps experimental music. its not always avant garde, but she likes playing with different genres. the problem is they keep escaping containment, even though shes embarrassed by them and thinks theyre all shit. no one can know about her breakcore album with 6 million views that she made while she was drunk and garage band crashed halfway through so theres weird chunks missing and distorted audio. no one. no one can know about the ska music made. god, not the ska.

reko has theater kid energy to me (both the yabusames do), but i doubt she was ever in any productions. her band/orchestra vibes are stronger and thats probably what she wouldve devoted all her time to instead. maybe, like, one musical, but she mightve not gotten the role she wanted and immediately quit. if she was, she drove everyone up a wall cause she was so hard to work with. shes a natural but she never shows up to any practices and is so easy to piss off, especially during the acting portions. skipping practice isnt a big deal to her because she can memorize things quickly, but it screws all the other actors up. she just isnt a team player (or rather, reko really wasnt a team player in highschool).

reko is a caffeine addict. she has overworking tendencies and i (used to) headcanon her as someone who abstains from alcohol / drugs / etc, so she resorts to coffee instead.

speaking of- i used to strongly believe reko wouldnt be the type to smoke or drink, specifically because i misinterpreted a line she said about her father ('hes not the best at staying true to his convictions, and gives into temptation') as being about addiction, when it was probably just supposed to be about her dad giving into the temptation of trying to make reko famous. looking back on it, thats closer to canon, and with the stress of being in the spotlight at such an early age and her self described 'delinquent phase' it makes a lot of sense to headcanon her as being a smoker or using other stimulants. i still think that you could possibly interpret her dad as having started doing those things at some point once they had surplus money from rekos early career, and i like the details that adds to her character; her trying to rebel from the industry not just out of a growing hate for it from being forced to do it, but also a wake up call for her father and hoping maybe hell stop if she refuses to be an idol anymore. her partially being so high strung later on because she never lets herself off the hook or resorts to substances that could calm her down.

i strongly believe reko has no idea how to actually be friends with people. like, yeah, when you talk to her during discussions she holds conversation pretty well and its not as if people dont want to be her friend or even that shes bad at it- its just that she has no experience. she doesnt know what shes doing. during pretty much the entirety of her developmental years, she was either getting forced into music stuff she didnt wanna do by her father or doing the music stuff she did wanna do. probably the only people she hung out with, if at all, were people she could hop the fence with to skip, and they werent really friends. alice even states himself that she had a habit of pushing people away and was alone.

in the same vein, alice may have dated more people than his far more charismatic sister. i refuse to drop this headcanon because its funny as hell. alice comes off strong, which you think would be a deterrent, but a lot of people are into that. its not as if reko doesnt, herself, but.... she has to deal with sheeping and girls thinking theyre just friends on top of that. moreover, i dont see reko as a flirty person- a lot of side content involves her getting flustered in some way. reko has an awkward flustered streak and it doesnt come out often but when it does it comes out strong, and its easy to find if you know where to look, so to speak. i mean, did you see the way she talked to nao on the 2f landing?

If Bart were afab, Bart would still be Bart, same if he was trans which is what I thought you might have been asking here, and if so a trans Bart hc is something that I embrace.

If Bart was a transboy I have a lot of questions about how his time in VR went, what his reception was with his family, how being in the 90s would translate for him really, what his own medical care would look like compared to what he would have had in the 30th century (who do have superior gender affirming care in canon this has been addressed) etc.

If you're just asking what my thoughts are on a "girl" Bart or "genderbent" Bart I honestly don't think Bart would change much if he was a girl personality-wise?

The world would respond differently to her adhd/autism for sure though! Because the world does treat boy autism/adhd differently than girl autism/adhd. Wally likely would have more patience for her, or he wouldn't know what to do with her at all. I question if they would let her be trained by a strange man (Max) they barely knew because girls are protected more than our boys. It would be a different story because girls are treated differently than boys and it's something we cannot really disregard.

I think some parts of her life would go better, others worse, she might not have the persistent bullying from her family or she might still. It would depend on the writer and what story they were telling.

Kon would have probably been all over her in canon immediately and she would be just as confused as all the other times Bart was canonly put in those romance scenarios.

I'm lazy to get the pictures but in the AU, claggor was talking about a certain yellow flower that can purify the air in the undercity but it's not efficient enough I think powder says "not unless you plant a million of them" and milo says "no way" (idk if I'm remembering correctly)

I saw someone also point out some of sky's notebook sketches was on plants and flowers, idk if its canon she's a bio-engineer but I hc it now

I think my s/i first hoped to add greenery to the undercity but wasn't sure how achievable it was. He studies in piltover so he got in touch with sky to ask about the plant stuff so he had some idea. So in the next few weeks we went to the undercity to check out how suitable it could potentially be or if it's a long shot, couldn't hurt to try

Even though the sewage pipes leading to the firelights base is complicated, I feel like if you stand at the right area on top and look down, you could see the gigantic tree?? So eventually he does notice it, maybe from quite a distance so he didn't know there were people there, just that there was some green and sunlight obviously reached there. So he tried to find a way down and one of the firelights caught him like tresspasing or something lmao then he meets ekko later it's along that vein. and explains his thing and ekko wants to help so from then on they worked closely and wren stays over at the base a lot.

I don't think they figured out the thing about the yellow flowers yet, they have just been planting trees.

Not sure about the timeline for the ship lore but then Ekko goes to the AU. During that conversation I mentioned earlier, they were on the topic of plants in the undercity so he asked where Wren was.

They asked, who's Wren?

They didn't meet in that AU, there were no firelights, the ones improving the undercity was everyone he knew, his friends and family. Himself too of course but not with the firelights, and not with Wren who didn't go down to accidentally meet him in person.

When ekko returns to the og universe he tells wren about the flowers and they'll eventually plant their own. Plus ekko leads a community that he can mobilise to do it on a larger scale. Although in the og verse the air is much worse so it'll probbaly take more than planting flowers to turn things around, but it's some impact nonetheless

It's either that or they already knew about the flowers and were already planting a number of them themselves before ekko went to the AU. So he goes and sees he and wren also did the same, and even were ahead in progress.

I guess what wren represents for him is just. Company in the journey towards what his dream for the undercity could be. In the AU episode in canon ekko says he "gave up on the undercity" so I guess if he had always been independent he would start thinking that. It's when he sees the undercity in the AU that changed his mind, but I feel like that trigger would also happen if he was shown that a way to improve the undercity was to better the environment through nature and involving the community he knows of to plant and be responsible for what they plant. I feel like that's a tangible thing that could inspire him to keep going and was sparked from wren's idea that he introduced to him when they met

sorry for making yet another textpost but i came across that post saying they dislike transfem natsume because he "canonically hates being perceived as a girl and tries to erase all sorts of memories related to that" and also went on to shame genderbends of him aswell. So, as someone who not only draws genderbends of natsume but is myself someone who is nonbinary and hates being perceived as a woman, i thought id offer my two cents

first of all; i think its important to note that natsume does NOT hate his childhood. in fact, hes quite happy that he had such an unusual upbringing!

what natsume hates is being perceived as weak. thats why he was raised as a girl after all, it was his mother trying to protect him from evil spirits. he doesnt hate the whole "-chan" or "wearing dresses" thing because he has a hatred for womanhood, its because due to his upbringing hes now come to associate those things as being weak. he begs tsumugi to forget about it because that means tsumugi remembers natsume being weak, and natsume thinks tsumugi still referring to him as "natsume-chan" means he still sees natsume as weak. (iirc natsume did however once say that he is a little sad that he doesnt really know how to relate to young boys due to this in poltergeist, but i couldnt find the exact quote. either way that just adds to the complexity of natsumes relationship with his childhood, because while he is happy to be "abnormal" in that sense, it has left him lacking in some areas)

i have to ask though, should this conflict of his not be something we hope he overcomes? should we not want him to develop a healthy relationship with various gender expressions? should we not want natsume to overcome his belief that feminine things = weakness? i want natsume to reach a point where he can wear feminine clothing and not feel like some damsel in distress because of it. i want natsumes character to grow. i want him to develop a positive relationship with his gender because natsume DOES enjoy some more typically feminine things, like baking! he used to bake with his mom when he was little! and i want him to feel like he can indulge in that side of him without feeling insecure.....

i LOVE transmasc natsume, my primary hc for him is transmasc nonbinary after all, but with all these things considered, shouldnt people be allowed to headcanon him however they want? if they hear his story and negative relationship with femininity and how that resonates with them and they themselves are transfem, should they not be allowed to hc him as such too?

which brings me to my next point; my own personal relationship with gender and femininity. i was raised as a girl and i fucking DESPISED womanhood. i hated everything about it. i hated how i felt forced into a box i didnt want to be stuck in, and i hated how it felt like my whole life had already been planned out for me due to societal expectations, aswell as me needing to present a certain way. i was peak "tomboy" growing up, constantly wearing super baggy clothes and wouldnt even brush my hair alot of the time. but despite that i remained miserable. i frankly hated how i looked and would constantly dye my hair vibrant colors in an attempt to make me like myself a little more. it wasnt until i realized "wow, im actually not a girl at all" that i finally let go of believing i needed to look a certain way (and thus, defying it) and started to dress for myself. i started to dress in clothes that made me happy and feel pretty! alot of which leans feminine, but clothes doesnt have a gender, and how you dress doesnt define your gender either, but it can still be a bit scary yknow? especially since i dont want people to think of me as a girl, and drawing a bunch of femstars has really made me learn to love myself more in a funny way. i can put these characters in clothes i think are beautiful, i can explore the more feminine parts of me that i adore but dont want to express in public due to how i want others to perceive me, but it has also warmed me up to femininity even more. because femstars to me feels detached from the expectations of society because its not a real thing!! there are no canon femstars designs!!! i can do literally whatever the hell i want with it and its been so liberating to me!!

all this to say; i think it really sucks seeing the way this fandom treats transfem hcs and explicit genderbends, because like ive said before; they can truly be something so personal. you dont know why that person is drawing what theyre drawing, so its a little unwise to make assumptions based on ........ Well, whatever it may be. i know very well that women dressing the way society expects them to SUCKS, esp if you have personal ties to it, but you have to realize the issue isnt femininity, but misogyny.

Here's a quick headcanon for you, though !

Lloyd 100% reads fanfiction. I don't make the rules. He is deep, deep into the Starfarer fandom, and he sometimes even writes his own fics (with the help of Pixal <3)! He tried to commission Cole to draw something for him (Cole please please pretty please? I have this really cute idea!!! Don't you love me? 🥺) and that ended with him being tossed onto the closest soft surface and smothered by a pillow. Lloyd definitely jumped for joy when a few days later, there's the exact Starfarer drawing he wanted sitting peacefully on his pillow. Cole got a lot of hugs that day, not that he's complaining. Lloyd's the type of person to gush about his favorite hyperfixations but feels guilty about it when he thinks that no one cares/they're not interested/they think he's being too childish. To counter that, his family give their utmost attention to him, asking questions and giving their own thoughts about it. A safe bet for gifts is just giving him plushies or merch from the series. Jay got him a first edition comic, and then he couldn't enter a room with Lloyd in it without getting thrown into a wall by a very aggressive and well-meaning hug.

I've been talking about physical affection a lot in this hc, so I have to make it known my stance on this. When he was younger, he definitely had touch-starvation issues. He grew up with literally no physical positive reinforcement, and when he was touched, it was most likely for a cruel prank or a school-issued punishment. So, when he went to the bounty with the ninja, he tried his hardest to subtly try to get physical affection without seeming "needy" or "weak." He sometimes didn't even realize he was doing it. He just subconsciously walked closer to Kai and let his hand brush against him or sat across from Jay and "jokingly" kicked his leg. He uses pranks often to try to get some type of touch, usually in the form of being dragged to the scene of the crime to clean something up (oopsie sorry Kai I didn't know that you wanted your upside down container of hair gel to be closed. I didn't think it would just fall out, sorry teehee). Eventually, the ninja figure it out - probably with the help of Nya if I'm being honest - and make sure to give him lots and lots of cuddles. Eventually, he just grows to be a very physically affectionate person, most likely because he was deprived of it.

About the Kaito keeping his secret ID through Refuge In Audacity do you think Conan stuck with his first guess that KID was younger than 20 or later dismissed it as KID wearing a mask? (Ik this isn't relevant to the kuroba sitcom but I had Ditto in the brain haha)

I personally hc that he logicked it away as "he can't be THAT young, learning all those skills he has would take time" and then Kaito TOLD HIM his mom was Phantom Lady who did crazy gymnastics so she couldn't have been very old and dissappeared a scant 20 years ago and Conan went "welp"

Ik that Hakuba figured KID's age through DNA and then compared to highschool databases across the country, but first that's not how DNA tests work, the length that tells how old someone is changes from person to person, and second, I'm not familiar w Japanese laws regarding privacy and DNA databases but I'm fairly sure that what Hakuba did was like. Super illegal. Probably why Hakuba hauled ass back to London after that case actually, I bet he only got away with it bc nepotism (IT'S SURE ILLEGAL IN THE UK)

GREAT QUESTION I think conan kept it in mind, but became less sure of himself over time. conan/shinichi has a pretty skewed idea of what kids are capable of doing, and I think he knows this about himself, so it’s reasonable for him to think “...nah, it would be insane if a high schooler was doing all this… right?” and if he was basing his original age guess off of what he could see of kid’s face and body shape, well, he learned very quickly that kid can change any of those traits at any time. who’s to say that kid wasn’t wearing makeup/a mask/anything else that might change his silhouette? …left to his own devices for long enough, conan can become a victim of his own overthinking, lol.

aaaand then kaito dropped the Phantom Lady tidbit. that, if anything, seemed to me like a peace offering of some kind? possibly meant to even the playing field between them? as always, it’s hard to tell what shinichi and kaito actually Know in canon, though I’m of course personally a fan of them knowing the least amount of information possible while still being as intelligent as we know they are. because shenanigans >:D

if we want to have fun with it ;) , I think the phantom lady reveal only narrows down kid’s age to,,,,, younger than 30? ish? it mostly gives conan an upper limit, since he doesn’t know whether kid was born before or after her retirement, and she easily could’ve retired in her early 30s. what it Does confirm is that this kid isn’t the original one, but that only narrows his identity down to “probably a protege of kid #1.” from there, the biggest bit of provable evidence against kaito is that his father died right when the original kid disappeared, but that’s still a pretty big logic leap to make when you aren’t around kaito all the time (like hakuba is). and toichi had students, too! who knows who else he taught besides yukiko and sharon? who is more likely to be kaitou kid: an undercover protege of toichi’s, or his teenage son who has an alibi for multiple heists?

best I can tell from some brief research, in Japan, DNA collection isn’t regulated for law enforcement, but hakuba isn’t law enforcement, he’s a consultant at best. I think other DNA tests for ppl age 16+ require consent of the person, and 16 or younger require the consent of a parent. hakuba has NEITHER. hakuba was saved from being a juvenile criminal by nepotism and the fact that nakamori laughed in his face instead of charging him with obstruction of justice or something. and yeah, that’s Absolutely Not How DNA Tests Work adjfksjdj
