Y'know I generally like all the sephirah core suppressions but Man I wish Binah didn't have the no pause mechanic. She was going to get it anyways later, why did she need it right next to the guy who's main meltdown mechanic involves limiting your ability to pause.

I also just feel like the fight is actually genuinely pretty fun in the way it pushes your micromanagement skills to their limits, and I feel like removing the ability to pause just makes the fight go from a fun management challenge to just kind of stupid. if you asked me this a year ago, i probably wouldve said toritsuka and saiki, and i still think theyre in at least the top five-

their development is very sweet, it takes toritsuka really fucking long to realize saiki isnt just some asshole stuck-up goody-two-shoes and actually cares about people and HIM on a personal level, but its really sweet when he finally does and it even allows him to start changing as a person.

-but after reading the manga twice and aggressively overanalyzing it, nendo and saiki are number one by far 😚

nendos sixth sense when it comes to saiki, the fact that nendo is the first person that broke down his walls and he warmed up to, the fact that saiki literally jumps up in shock/fear when people sneak up on him when he cant read their minds but he doesnt do that when nendo comes up to him, etc... theyre adorable. i know people tend to chalk nendo down to just the comically ugly and stupid guy with no character depth but hes more than that, trust me... i think hes a huge part of what started giving saiki hope in humanity itself, considering his pure shock when he realizes he can actually trust this guy even without reading his mind 😭

for honorable mentions i would probably say yumehara and teruhashi, we dont get directly shown a lot of depth from them but i think more than enough is implied, considering all of teruhashis resignations about being friends with girls and how a good chunk of that got pretty much thrown out after she and yumehara got close 😙 oh also aiura and saiki, they work really well together and ive talked a little bit before about how she probably helped give saiki a lot of faith in humanity since shes the first time he sees someone with power who isnt corrupt by it and is still a kind person (edit: neglected to mention akechi and saiki OR mera and saiki OR kuboyasu and kaido, im a failure/j)

Im planning to make like . proper things for this . like with drawn refs and all, but for now a textpost will have to suffice . these'll be more baseline too: RINU YOSHIOKA: -She is the leader of the group, and an adventurer -Her main weapon is a big axe [that she decorated with charms n stuff] -28, she/her, transfem, aroace -Autism, bpd -Shes from Wonderland -Shes loud, energetic, chaotic and very happy most of the time . she loves her friends and shes always been curious to explore the world, so naturally she ended up being an adventurer . shes an extremely skilled fighter as well . her and her team are regarded as heroes since most of the exploration work also involves your typical having-to-kill-monsters-and-shit . people think shes stupid at first but shes actually incredibly smart, and very used to being infantilized [she uses it to commit to the bit and act dumb sometimes for the sake of The Bit] . in her teenage years, she spent her life locked up in her bedroom, never going anywhere and usually just sleeping, she absolutely hates doing that now [leading her to have a bit of insomnia] . shes very brave too! though her biggest fear is porcelain dolls, no one really knows why . she looves cute stuff too . shes the most emotionally mature out of the group, and helps them with their feelings, even though she is TERRIBLE at dealing with hers . -Killed a dragon once while she was drunk on 8 bottles of beer btw -shes quite short, around 5'5 -Her younger sister is Mayu Yoshioka -Being a regular citizen of Wonderland, she's one of the rare ones that have magic! she has hope magic [basically gains power from the hope of the people around her, can feel people's hope, and use it in the form of specific spells and energy beams . by hopes of everyone i mean it btw . even dead people .] but usually just uses her axe for stuff . she also has healing magic . shes a very good magical medic, people think shed be a good nurse . -at first she seems polite and well mannered, which she certainly is, but thats kind of all people know her for besides her inventions and alchemy . Shes the second most level headed but tends to zone out a LOT to think about other things . Do NOT bring her to a cave bc she WILL space out and run off to collect rocks for her newest alchemy experiment . Shes also more prone to danger bc of this i.e. all the times she almost touched fire by accident before heath saved her . Not only does she want recognition for her craft, she also wants to travel around the world to further her inventions and alchemy, similarly to doc [they get along bc of this] . Despite her general friendliness and polite attitude, shes actually quite distrusting of most people . It took her a very long time [arc 2] to properly trust doc and rinu . The only person she trusted fully was heath and now doc and rinu too . She has a complicated relationship to her gender as well . She was born and raised in a religious cult [fun fact: two more characters in the au were also apart of this cult!!] that basically engrained into her head that inventing and alchemy was "impure" for her and "not feminine enough", and she was constantly pressured to present fem and look pretty . She barely had any friends . She managed to sneak an invention or two sometimes but mostly she didnt have anything within her interest to do . The cult was horrendously abusive obviously, and the ideas from it that were pushed onto her still affect her now . She apologizes way too much and is afraid to be dependent on people in fear of being lied to like she was her entire life in the cult . Everything of course changes when her family takes her to heaths hometown [i dont have a name for it yet </3] and she meets well . Heath . They get off EXTREMELY well for the time they see each other, and at that point they were each others only friends . And luckily, nina gets to visit his hometown quite a few times as theres cult relations there!! And well . When nina finally escapes at the age of around 19 or 20, heath just so happens to be the only person she knows outside the cult . She takes a gruelling journey to heaths hometown mostly by foot and eventually finds her shop . Heath, of course is very surprised and extremely concerned, and agrees to let them live in her home . They grow accustomed to each other as nina stays there for id say an year or two, eventually gaining enough crystals [money equivalent . Basic ik </3] to bounce back up and but her own home . And in that time the two dense dumbasses realize both of them have a crush on each other . It took them months for heath to finally confess to her and yeah . Nina and heath do live apart [mostly . Until they join the main gang] but they visit each other frequently . And years later when theyre both 27 is when the story starts .

She was excitable and energetic and had her head in the clouds, always dreaming up a story . Her parents were neglectful and hated her [they were on the brink of a divorce and thought he was a burden on them] . This caused heaths happiness to largely mellow out over the years . this was paired with the fact that she largely had no friends, until she met nine . But im not re-explaining allat again . Under her parents demand she became a merchant and did, indeed enjoy it . Meeting new people across lands was actually fun, shes kind of like those bartenders that know everyones secrets . She also pursued her dream of writing which went extremely well . However she always faced a lot of slack for her identity over the years . At first it was being too hyperactive, but now it was even more personal . People were uncomfortable with her since shes trans openly so, whilst also not fitting any female gender norms [stubble, flat chest, broad shoulders, fem-ish but deep voice] . As a result people who dont know her tend to be disgusted of her or scared of her and treat her like an alien . Heath tries not to let that bother her but it very much does [as seen in her breakdown in arc 1] . Shes grown to be apathetic as a coping mechanism, and it comes to her detriment quite a lot . She doesnt think nor feels like she belongs anywhere, and it took her a while to not constantly other herself from her friends . sometimes i think about jinx and like. idk theres something about her that irks me thats seperate from her as a character its like. the language the show and fans use to discuss the kind of person she is in relation to what she was like as a child.

at times it feels borderline ridiculous how much powder is put on a pedastal. im not saying shes secretly evil or bad or whatever that's fucking stupid but like. shes the kind of good you can only be when you are a child that young. and the need for the story to posit that as like, the best of jinx, a naive child with documented extreme emotional regulation issues is bizarre

i got this short recommended to me with the boards from season two of isha stopping violet from killing jinx in that sewer fight. and someone in the comments was like oh they should have kept that shot of jinx crying, bc it shows she still has POWDERS innocence. its shit like that that makes my skin crawl. its like the kind of thing your emotionally dense family says to you, oh why arent you happy like you were when you were six years old? now youre hateful and rude? why dont you like the same things as you did when you were in goddamn elementary school

the way i initially thought of it was along the lines of: powder isnt Better than jinx- theyre the same person! powder did everything jinx did, she changed. theres no like, stagnant pure untouched baby heart wrapped up in the skin of a killer she just. grew up. made shitty choices.

then i sat on it. identity is a powerful conplex thing. gonna pull out the most basic ass example here- bruce wayne and batman. theres this scene in batman beyond. if you dont wanna click the link the long and short is that batman is talking to his protégé and states that he knew the voice in his head telling what to do during that episode wasnt a form of psychosis because the voice was calling him bruce. "thats not what i call myself," he says. batman is fully integrated into his identity. he is batman before hes bruce. if anything, the billionaire playboy thing is more of a costume than him literally dressing up as a menecing bat themed superhero. he identifies with fear and vengence and justice more than his birthright

with all of that i accept jinx having this sort of mentality about herself. a before and after. there was powder then there was jinx. i accept the people in the show talking about her like this- especially violet. i honestly found her refusal to engage with jinx as her own person and constantly trying to appeal to "powder" interesting and kind of pathetic (IN A GOOD WAY THIS WAS A GOOD CHOICE). it makes things simpler when you actually have to deal with the damage shes caused. you arent killing your sister- jinx already did that. powder is already dead, this is just a loose end. i also think this makes One thing about the season 2 scene where they find their father again touching. violet acknowledges that vander was jinxs dad too. it was both of their losses from a horrible accident. there are other bits about that exchange i dont like but this isnt about that

what gets me is like. the very mechanics of the show and the fandom as a whole just sort of accepting this idea of jinx/powder in its most simplistic form. yes powder is the Good Baby and jinx is the Evil Murderer. all good things jinx does is actually her becoming powder again and all bad things powder did was foreshadowing jinx. it scrubs the line between maladaptive copong mechanism and just. a really dull way of thinking about her

i think its very. very sad. that we go through ekko interacting with an alt world jinx/powder, one seemingly more well adjusted but has still suffered a heavy loss. but shes had kinder people in her life to help her bear that weight. and then when we see him confronted with his own jinx, at the end of her rope, actively committed to blowing it all up and erasing herself from the picture. we dont get to see any of it. he finds the middle ground Off Screen. we see her and shes just decided dying for real is dumb or maybe shell just let herself die during the battle, she has the new haircut and hoodie and.

it just kind of says nothing we dont know what changed her mind we dont know! ive sewn people say that ekko brought up the alt world jinx as a sign of her being capable of good but 1. we already got a whole season of that with her and the baby, and if you bring up that she feels guilty about that bc isha was killed, i will mention that alt world powder was ALSO wracked with guilt bc SHE was the one messing with the little magic crystals and got violet blown up. these are comparable situations and neither of them really end with her feeling good about herself

maybe its about perseverance. maybe its him saying hey i saw you go through something awful in another life and you lived. you got better and you had people who loved you and i love you and. fill in the rest of the speech. maybe thats it. maybe the middle point of powder and jinx issssss. resilience. maybe the show is just kind of ambiguously having her deal with severe dissociation. maybe everyone has a good baby and an evil monster in their brain at a control panel fighting at all times for dominance. maybe there can be inherent good qualities to jinx that has nothing to do with peoples foggy recollection of her at 9 years old

so in order to be turned, one has to be bit, then consume/come in contact with the sires blood, then die and boom you wake up a vampire! very important fact of this universe is that creatures and humans have been assimilated for centuries atp, so society has been built around that. humans and creatures dont attack eachother, and theres laws in place to accomodate all the different species that are part of the world. so vampires dont need human blood to survive since there are whole shops, restaurants, cafes and bars that base their products on animal blood/synthetic blood, cuz lets be honest plain blood would get pretty boring fast. vampires dont take any nutritional values from human food but can still eat it, even tho it does taste slightly different to them. for that reason drinking from humans is looked down on as animalistic and crude, and without the humans consent its plain illegal. ofc there are humans who are into being a 'drink' and theres communities and clubs in place for that sort of a thing. theres also humans who want to get turned and can do so after a psych and medical evaluation and a bunch of legal paperwork for both the human and the vampire. but again turning someone without consent and agreements is a crime. after turning the vampires body stays in roughly the same state as at the time of death (fun fact, thats why gee is colder and paler than most vampires, cuz he bled out so at the time of death his body was almost bloodless). it kinda freezes, thats why thwy dont have pulses but if yoy cut them they still bleed. they also have wacky fast healing which is great for small injuries but kinda sucks for bigger ones (again thats where gees chronic neck pains come from. the skin over his bite wound scarred very fast but his muscles and nerves didnt catch up so theyre all messed up resulting in frequent pains yowch). the only thing i could not get a ligical reason for is vamp gee aging but hey its my universe so behold the sciency medical aging pill/treatment engenereed for vamps wjo want to age along with their loved ones! the aging is still a bit slower than the regular kind but its something.

silly facts include twilight and other 2000s' sexy vampire movies being the unhealthy vampire beauty standard that some of them hate and are working to abolish. makeup companies are selling sparkly lotions for that skin of a killer look. also yes they get irritated by garlic but its more like an allergy. also my vamoires have two sets of fangs. and more batlike ears. and nocturnal eyes so sunglasses are on high demand. their skin is sensitive to sun but doesnt exactly burn, more like very potent to sunburn. and theyre nocturnal but just like humans, they can have fucked up sleep scheduels and kinda train themselves to function in the day, altough most dont do it. vampires gather in clans which are usually a few families or completely non blood related ppl froming a tight community. theres some slight differences between turned and born vampires and there are vampire purists who only accept born vampires as real ones. theres also some more conservative humans who dont like turned vampires for abandoning their humanity.

i think op and tons of other people who make similar criticisms dont really get the satire. same with the therapy stuff—does therapy ever really help elliot? not really. in fact, its weaponized against him. yet he seeks it out constantly, just like he seeks out other individualized capitalistic "cures" to poor mental health—think of his desire in s3 to "become normal" by being a good e corp worker, or the "ideal world" he creates for host elliot, where hes a business owner, a heterosexual man with a pretty wife who hardly exists as her own person.... its business and nuclear families all the way down.

imo these sorts of criticisms are like watching sopranos and being like "well these characters are all racist and sexist and the therapy scenes are stupid!" like yes thats the fucking point lol. in general i find posts like these to be on the same level of weak analysis as cinemasins. like its easy enough to point at something and go SINOPHOBIC!! TRANSPHOBIC!!! RACIST!!!! but like lets actually parse this out and assess what these things might be saying/doing both within and outside of the narrative. i dont refute the fact that the show has tons of redditor fans that take all of this at face value and are more interested in being like ELLIOT IS MY EMO HACKER INTP KIN!!!, nor do i refute some of OPs very correct criticisms, but man come on

it also comes down to a difference in how you approach art ig. like i would read/watch/listen to the worst dogslop ever and still find something interesting in it. not to say mr robot is the worst dogslop ever, but you get what i mean. i find these bad faith "and now i will point out to my followers how this thing is PROBLEMATIC" posts tiring, if only for the fact that they are prescriptive and dont really have anything interesting to say beyond stating the obvious with little elaboration. i also think it's annoying to tag the show ur doing this to but that's besides the point
