Lord & Lady Quenderlain, holder of the new the coin rich, but reputation poor, noble family. Newcomers to high society, it is generally believed that the Quenderlains bought their title rather then being ancestral nobles, which holds a mixture of options about them, some looking down on their not-so-blue blood, & others eyeing their fortunes greedily. Between the Lord & Lady, they have but two daughters of the current, Isabelle & Tiffanie Quenderlain. Born both tall & beautiful, their reputations among high society are as equally strained. Isabelle has been known to have many suitors over the social season, but has never married, where as Tiffanie appears disinterested in suitors at all. Both are well past the prime ages for the seasons, which has put no end of strain upon their father & mother, who urge them to use the next coming season to finally get married... or they will decided for them.
Duke Fortemps is known for two things: his family's vast wealth & his three sons, his two legitimate children & his bastard born son, Haruchefant Greystone. Despite being a bastard, the duke raised he son with love & care, & his affectionate for his kin fostered well, as Haruchefant would enlist in the military & become a star worthy Lieutenant. However, despite all his kindness & career, & being a part of the social season when he could, he never married & had little more then fleeting flings. As despite being the son of a wealthy duke, nobody wants to marry a bastard. Or even if they didn't care about that, their parents sure won't allow that, no one wants 'tainted noble blood', especially when he has two other brothers ripe for marriage. He is he for the social season once more this year, still with his head his high.
The Viscount Aymeric Borel, is a man who was married at one point. He wedded a girl he met roughly five years ago, which was almost entirely for the girl's wealth & not love, as the Borel viscounty strong suit is it's connections through out the nobility, both in & out of it's home country, & not in the purse. The pervious wife of Aymeric had been thrown from her horse a year prior, which resulted in a concussion server enough to give her brain damage & later kill her. The now-once-more single Viscount is present at the social season once more this year, & hoping this time to marry, not for convince, but for love.
Estinien Varlineau is not a noble by any means, but a mere commoner, whose skills in the military are so undoubtable, he was invited to this year's social season by the queen herself. Believing him deserving of a highborn spouse. A general, who truly cares so very little of the season, & highborns as a whole, he seems to care very little for any callers or ladies trying for a bite of his attention. He finds more amusement in a good drink.
#musings [lore; ideas and aesthetics]#v!regency era#ivy quenderlain; headcanon [shouldering the weight of a blessing]#tiffanie quenderlain; headcanon [once a meek maiden; now a shadowbringer]#haurchefant; headcanon [do not despair! you are not without allies!]#aymeric; headcanon [if it is folly to hope then i am content to die a fool]#estinien; headcanon [your not the only one who can ride the winds!]#(*lays this here dramatically*)

When Aymeric said, "If it is folly to hope, I am content to die a fool";
And when Alphinaud said, "But what is the ire of a great wyrm to a trio of self-confessed fools such as ourselves?";
And when Yugiri said, "Mayhap I am a fool with foolish dreams of a future that will never be, but I cannot- I will not forsake them!";
And when Alisaie quoted her grandfather, "Where men go as one, there is life. And where there is life, there is cause to hope";
Idk find me lying on the floor crying about it

»»————- ♡ ————-««
The warmth, golden light filtered in through the sheer curtains, and the fresh, salty smell of the ocean and sound of chirping birds hit you all at once. It was a late, but beautiful and blissful morning and you were loath to get up. All you wanted was to stay here forever, wrapped up in the arms of your beautiful lover. Almost as if he sensed that you were up, you felt him grinning against your skin as he pressed a flurry of gentle, saccharine kisses to your chest and collarbones. You mumbled something into the soft pillow, something about wanting just five more minutes of sleep, but he just chuckled.
“Sleep is for the dead, sunshine,” he murmured as he worked his way up your neck and stopped at your lips.
"I wish we could stay like this forever," a small huff of air escaped your nose as you pouted at him, slowly opening your bleary eyes. You found his soft brown ones, crinkled sweetly in the corners as he grinned at you, studying your face intently, “good morning.”
“Speak for yourself,” you teased him, “it cannot be a good morning if I am being woken up at such an ungodly hour!”
“Ungodly hour,” Oberyn laughed - a twinkling, beautiful sound - before laying back down and pulling you on top of him. You made a small sound of surprise at the sudden motion, but quickly quieted down when you felt his warm, bare body against yours. His golden skin on yours was delicious and warm, soft and strong at the same time, a perfect juxtaposition - just like him. You laid your head onto his chest, “it is almost the afternoon, sweet girl, it’s hardly ungodly.”
“Why can I not enjoy the day in bed with my prince?” you sighed softly, running a hand through his dark curls, “why should I allow the world to part me from my lover in such a manner?”
“Unfortunately the world requires us to be present,” he chuckled as kissed the top of your head. You huffed lightly although you understood what he meant. You'd always known - from the moment you had met the handsome prince.
“And what’s more important? The world or me?” you joked as he grazed his fingers up and down your spine, leaving a wake of gooseflesh under his fingertips. You sighed into his touch before pressing a few kisses to his bare chest.
“You, of course,” he promised, “and you have me always, first and foremost. But sometimes the world needs their prince.”
"And what about me?" you said softly as his large hands landed thoroughly on your backside, giving the firm flesh of your ass a squeeze. You giggled wildly before turning to look up at him and grabbing his jaw, "play fair!"
"I am," he insisted as you kissed him, "you will always manage without me. For the world needs their prince, but what is a mere prince to the queen?"
"Shut up," you groaned at him before moving to sit up so you were straddling his lap, his body humming with gentle love under yours, "you are not even a prince - only a mere fool!"
"A fool for you," he insisted softly as his hands found purchase on your hips. You beamed at him, golden as the sunlight and causing his heart to melt, "let me show you how a queen - my queen - is treated."
"Oberyn," you gasped slightly as his hands wandered up your body and to your breasts, "I thought we had to get up and rejoin society?"
"I've changed my mind," he grinned, "the prince needs you instead."
»»————- ♡ ————-««
"Its beautiful here," you were sprawled out on the lush, soft blanket, soaking up as much sun as possible. You were near the edge of the stunning lake, secluded and alone, as you listened to the soft lapping of the waves onto the shore. It was so serene and blissful, for a few moments you almost forgot that a world outside of this place existed.
Oberyn hummed in content as he popped a few fresh, plump berries into his mouth. He grabbed a particularly plump looking strawberry and held it out to you, dangling it just in front of your lips. You made a show of taking a large bite from the berry, letting the juice dribble from your lips and down your chin. He tuttled lightly before using his thumb to collect the juices and holding it out to you.
Grabbing his wrist, you pulled his thumb into your mouth before sucking it clean before slowly releasing it with a loud pop. He grinned at you, before pulling you in for a kiss.
"You are a very tantalizing little thing," he licked across your bottom lip, savoring the sweetness that lingered. You grinned against him before pulling away and lying back down on the blanket. Oberyn watched you for a few moments before lying next to you, his large hand grabbed yours and he defty laced your fingers together, "you're thinking much too loudly."
"I am doing nothing of the sort," you shrugged innocently, keeping your eyes closed in order to shield them from the sun - and Oberyn. He had a knack for being able to read every thought and feeling almost as if he was able to see into your soul. Naturally, there were a million things running through your mind at once, but you weren't going to tell Oberyn any of that - not yet anyway, "perhaps you're being too analytical."
"It wouldn't be the first time I've been accused of such a thing," he snorted in laughter, "but I, my sunshine, am also able to read to you - easily. Tell me what's going on in that pretty head of yours."
"And if I refuse to speak my peace?"
"Then I shall be forced to pull it out of you," he insisted softly as he brought your hand to his lips and pressed a delicate kiss to your knuckles. Sighing contentedly, you rolled onto your side so you could properly face him.
And he was beautiful - so stunning in his golden glory. He was older now, than when you'd first met him, calmer after everything he'd survived in King's Landing, even more wise and world weary than the best men. Which you supposed he was; a man with words as sweet as roses or sharp as hawthorne - it was easy to see why everyone fell at his feet, but he still reminded them of why he was the Red Viper.
The soft brown of his eyes, flecked with gold in the light, always seemed to betray him. At least to you anyways. His hair was longer these days, softer much like him, lightened by the sun and flowing into luscious curls. His facial hair has greyed slightly (from keeping up with all of the kids he always claimed), and he was more...him.
You'd always loved him, from the day he seemed to save you from a life of uncertainty and domineering men. But it has been a privilege to watch him grow, to see him become the best version of him - it was always thanks to you, he claimed, a guise you greatly disputed. But you loved him - your husband - more than the moon and all the glittering stars in the night sky.
Playing with you a lock of his soft hair, you continued to brush off the insinuation that anything was wrong, "nothing is the matter, Oberyn. I am merely enjoying the private company of my husband."
“And yet there is so much going on in that mind,” he mused, as you shrugged innocently, “so much buzzing, I’d think we were in Honeyholt and tending to the bees. My dear sunshine, you should know better by now - when have I ever let such a thing go?”
“You are incessant,” you groaned lightly, but appreciating the care and concern nonetheless, “it is silly - a mere folly that should not even worry me and alas, here I am.”
“If it matters to you, then it is not a mere folly,” he promised, “you can tell me anything.”
“I know,” you agreed with a small. You sat up slowly pulling your knees to your chest as you looked out into the sparkling water. Oberyn followed suit before moving to sit in front of you, putting his hand under your chin and turning your face up to his. He almost left you breathless with his easy beauty and warmth, “it’s just...I like this. Just you and me, no one else around, no worries, no duties. I...I hate to think once we return home it will all cease to exist - you will be forced to your duties, as I understand you must, and I? Well, I suppose I will be your dutiful wife, hoping and wishing for a chance to see her husband.”
“Then I suppose we should run away, shouldn’t we?”
“I...Oberyn...what?”
“I’m serious,” he insisted softly as you just laughed at his idealistic ways, “let’s run away together, even if just for a while. No one has to know...and when we are ready we shall return.”
“That is a temporary solution for a permanent problem, my love,” you gave him a weak smile before pulling out of his touch, “what about when we return to Dorne?”
“Always so serious, my sunshine,” he chuckled softly as you huffed at him, “you must ruin every little surprise, mustn’t you?”
“I have done nothing,” you insisted, sticking out your tongue at him, “all I do is care about my husband and I am teased and punished for being woeful and caring!”
“You have not been teased -”
“I have too, Oberyn Martell!”
“I will make it up to you, sweet girl,” he praised with a glint in his eye, “however, whenever, and wherever you should fancy. Now - will you let me finish?”
“I have not been-”
“Your prince demands it.”
“Well your queen insists that she hasn’t been doing anything of the short,” gave him a little smirk, “but go on and tell me about this so called surprise.”
“When we return home to Dorne, things will be different,” he promised as you raised your eyebrows in question, “I have been thinking, and don’t even say a word, and I think it’s time for me to...take a step back and let Doran and Arianne, as his heir, handle things from now. I am getting tired...weary, of all these tasks that should be left to the next ruler. Besides, Arianne is more than ready to take over. I think I should quite enjoy a quiet, leisurely life.”
“Oberyn,” your mouth dropped and formed a small o as you studied him to try and see if he was being honest. A smile tugged on the corners of his mouth before he broke out in a wonderful grin. You leaned over and kissed him, unable to stop yourself, “do you mean it? Please tell me this isn’t some sort of cruel joke.”
“I would never do such a thing,” he whispered as he pulled you into his lap and you wrapped your arms around his neck, “I just think...it’s time. Besides, there is nothing more I want than to spend my day with you, and the girls - think of all the things we can do. There are still ways to help our people, but we will do it together.”
“You continually amaze me,” a single tear, this one of nothing but happiness and love had rolled down your cheek as you pressed your forehead against his, “and I will never know what I did to deserve you, and I will be forever grateful to the universe for bringing you to me.”
“Now you’re just flattering me,” he reached up and gently wiped away the tear, “for it should be the other way around. I take it as though you are not opposed to the notion?”
“Not at all,” you smiled softly, “I could have asked for nothing better.”
“Then what do you say?” his hand found the back of your neck as he gave you a gentle squeeze, “shall we run away? To Essos - the Summer Isles - far away from everything? Only to return when we decide we are ready to?
“Yes,” you eagerly agreed, delighted by the prospect of spending the days and nights at your husband’s side, without a care in the world, “I want nothing more.”
“Then it is settled,” he promised, “now, will you let me show you every way in which I love you?”
“Oberyn!” your face flushed with warmth as you looked around to make sure no was within ear shot, “we are out in the open! Anyway could...see.”
“And that is not our problem,” he shrugged simply, “we have told them not to disturb us, hopefully they heed our advice. But now, sweet girl, you are all mine.”
“Always,” you promised softly, “I am forever yours.”

ADWD: Daenerys vs Jon
In this meta, I will try to find the clues of Dance of Dragons 2.0 in Daenerys and Jon ADWD chapters.
(I will be pointing out how these two are meant to be against each other)
Mostly: I will examine the chapters that follow each other.
Let’s start...
A) ADWD; Daenerys I & Jon I:
Daenerys I:
He lifted the sack, and spilled its contents on the marble. Bones they were, broken bones and blackened. The longer ones had been cracked open for their marrow. “It were the black one,” the man said, in a Ghiscari growl, “the winged shadow. He come down from the sky and … and …” No. Dany shivered. No, no, oh no. “Are you deaf, fool?” Reznak mo Reznak demanded of the man. “Did you not hear my pronouncement? See my factors on the morrow, and you shall be paid for your sheep.” “Reznak,” Ser Barristan said quietly, “hold your tongue and open your eyes. Those are no sheep bones.” No, Dany thought, those are the bones of a child.
[ADWD; Daenerys I]
Dany’s dragon Drogon burns a child
Let’s look Jon chapter that comes after this Dany chapter:
Jon I:
Burning dead children had ceased to trouble Jon Snow; live ones were another matter. Two kings to wake the dragon. The father first and then the son, so both die kings. The words had been murmured by one of the queen’s men as Maester Aemon had cleaned his wounds. Jon had tried to dismiss them as his fever talking. Aemon had demurred. “There is power in a king’s blood,” the old maester had warned, “and better men than Stannis have done worse things than this.” The king can be harsh and unforgiving, aye, but a babe still on the breast? Only a monster would give a living child to the flames.
[ADWD; Jon I]
GRRM knew exactly what he was doing by making this chapter follow the Dany one.
Only monsters burn children= Dragons are monsters.
Even Dany says so. And Dany calls herself a monster too in her second chapters:
Daenerys II:
Mother of dragons, Daenerys thought. Mother of monsters. What have I unleashed upon the world? A queen I am, but my throne is made of burned bones, and it rests on quicksand. Without dragons, how could she hope to hold Meereen, much less win back Westeros? I am the blood of the dragon, she thought. If they are monsters, so am I.
[ADWD; Daenerys II]
Monsters burn children= Dragons are monsters = Dany is a monster
This ADWD; Dany II chapter comes after ADWD; Jon III.
Let’s keep reading Jon I chapter:
Jon I:
Stannis read from the letter. “Bear Island knows no king but the King in the North, whose name is STARK. A girl of ten, you say, and she presumes to scold her lawful king.”
[ADWD; Jon I]
Like Daenerys, Stannis also believes that he is the only lawful and true ruler, he sacrifices people to flames, he listens what flames tell him, he wants everyone to bend the knee to him.
Also let’s not forget about the Dragonstone and Azor Ahai parallels between Dany and Stannis.
Just like Lyanna Mormont doesn’t bend the knee to Stannis; the other Northern lords won’t accept Daenerys either.
Stannis sees Jon as his key to the North. But Jon made his choice and he chose family and honor over his own desire of becoming the Lord of Winterfell:
“By right Winterfell should go to my sister Sansa.”
[ADWD; Jon I]
Daenerys might also see Jon as her key to the North in the future books but Jon will always choose his honor as a Stark and his Stark family.
Lonely and lovely and lethal, Jon Snow reflected, and I might have had her. Her, and Winterfell, and my lord father’s name. Instead he had chosen a black cloak and a wall of ice. Instead he had chosen honor. A bastard’s sort of honor.
[ADWD; Jon III]
This also comes before a Dany chapter:
[About Jon choosing Sansa and him becoming her hero, please check: Jon x Sansa Book Hints: C12, C13, E2 ]
B) ADWD; Daenerys III & Jon IV:
Daenerys III:
The next morning Xaro’s galleas was gone, but the “gift” that he had brought her remained behind in Slaver’s Bay. Long red streamers flew from the masts of the thirteen Qartheen galleys, writhing in the wind. And when Daenerys descended to hold court, a messenger from the ships awaited her. He spoke no word but laid at her feet a black satin pillow, upon which rested a single bloodstained glove. “What is this?” Skahaz demanded. “A bloody glove …” “… means war,” said the queen.
[ADWD; Daenerys III]
GLOVE IS OFF AND IT MEANS WAR!
Next chapter is Jon:
Jon IV:
As they did their count, Jon peeled the glove off his left hand and touched the nearest haunch of venison. He could feel his fingers sticking, and when he pulled them back he lost a bit of skin. His fingertips were numb. What did you expect? There’s a mountain of ice above your head, more tons than even Bowen Marsh could count. Even so, the room felt colder than it should. “It is worse than I feared, my lord,” Marsh announced when he was done. He sounded gloomier than Dolorous Edd. Jon had just been thinking that all the meat in the world surrounded them. You know nothing, Jon Snow. “How so? This seems a deal of food to me.”
[ADWD; Jon IV]
Jon takes his glove off and loses skin and maybe it gets even bloody?
In this chapter Jon is having problems with finding food and it is safe to assume that dragons are a threat to realm’s supplies.
Jon thinks their best hope is untouched Eyrie- where his Tully cousin hides as a bastard: (source: Best Hope is in Eyrie)
“If we had sufficient coin, we could buy food from the south and bring it in by ship,” the Lord Steward said. We could, thought Jon, if we had the gold, and someone willing to sell us food. Both of those were lacking. Our best hope may be the Eyrie. The Vale of Arryn was famously fertile and had gone untouched during the fighting. Jon wondered how Lady Catelyn’s sister would feel about feeding Ned Stark’s bastard. As a boy, he often felt as if the lady grudged him every bite.
[ADWD; Jon IV]
He once again chooses his Stark family in this chapter:
Which would you have as Lord of Winterfell, Snow? The smiler or the slayer?” Jon said, “Winterfell belongs to my sister Sansa.”
[ADWD; Jon IV]
C) ADWD; Daenerys VII & Jon IX:
Daenerys VII:
This is Dany’s wedding chapter and she learns about her father’s jealousy about married cousins Tywin and Joanna and she also thinks about a love between a Targaryen prince and a Stark lady:
“I want to know. I never knew my father. I want to know everything about him. The good and … the rest.” “As you command.” The white knight chose his words with care. “Prince Aerys … as a youth, he was taken with a certain lady of Casterly Rock, a cousin of Tywin Lannister. When she and Tywin wed, your father drank too much wine at the wedding feast and was heard to say that it was a great pity that the lord’s right to the first night had been abolished. A drunken jape, no more, but Tywin Lannister was not a man to forget such words, or the … the liberties your father took during the bedding.” His face reddened. “I have said too much, Your Grace. I—”
[...]
If he loved you, he would come and carry you off at swordpoint, as Rhaegar carried off his northern girl, the girl in her insisted, but the queen knew that was folly.
[ADWD; Daenerys VII]
Tywin betrayed Aerys and Rhaegar’s love for Lyanna caused a big trouble for the realm...
And we know that Daenerys is still waiting for a BETRAYAL FOR LOVE.
The voices were growing louder, she realized, and it seemed her heart was slowing, and even her breath… three treasons will you know… once for blood and once for gold and once for love…
[…]
A blue flower grew from a chink in a wall of ice, and filled the air with sweetness… mother of dragons, bride of fire…
[ACOK; Daenerys IV]
And next chapter is Jon who is a secret Targaryen and the son of Prince Rhaegar and Lyanna Stark.
So Jon comes after betrayer Tywin. (betrayal)
He is the son of Rhaegar and Lyanna.. (love)
Who is the cousin?
Well A SISTER comes to him in this chapter:
A grey girl on a dying horse. Melisandre’s fires had not lied, it would seem.
[ADWD; Jon IX]
According to Melisandre’s vision this “grey girl” should have been Jon’s sister but Alys Karstark came to him.
“I have seen your sister in my fires, fleeing from this marriage they have made for her. Coming here, to you. A girl in grey on a dying horse, I have seen it plain as day. It has not happened yet, but it will.”
[ADWD; Jon VI]
But in truth Jon’s only sister Rhaenys is dead and the only sisters Jon knows are his COUSINS actually.
Which cousin? The one that fits into the “grey girl” prophecy. Sansa Stark... Who is now facing a new marriage.
According to fan made reading order for AFFC & ADWD: (source: AFFC&ADWD reading order)
ADWD; Jon IX chapter is following AFFC; Alayne II chapter where she learns about Petyr’s plans of marrying her with Harry Hardyng.
So according to same reading order, this Alayne chapter comes between this Daenerys chapter and Jon chapter.
[About Jon and Sansa being Dany’s betrayal for love and doom please read: Jon x Sansa Book Hints: B4, D4, E6 ]
So the fake grey girl that comes after Dany chapter gives us the clues of Dany’s last betrayal for love by pointing out two cousins who are a Targaryen prince and a Stark lady.
Let’s continue with ADWD; Jon IX:
Queen Selyse descended upon Castle Black with her daughter and her daughter’s fool, her serving girls and lady companions, and a retinue of knights, sworn swords, and men-at-arms fifty strong. Queen’s men all, Jon Snow knew. They may attend Selyse, but it is Melisandre they serve.
[ADWD; Jon IX]
We know that Jon dislikes Queen Selyse and he knows that she is actually a puppet of Melisandre.
In one of his ADWD chapters he describes Selyse like this:
A word from Melisandre, and she would walk into the fire willingly, embrace it like a lover.
[ADWD; Jon X]
This description reminds me Daenerys Targaryen.
Who did walk into flames willingly and embrace it like a lover? Daenerys Targaryen:
She had sensed the truth of it long ago, Dany thought as she took a step closer to the conflagration, but the brazier had not been hot enough. The flames writhed before her like the women who had danced at her wedding, whirling and singing and spinning their yellow and orange and crimson veils, fearsome to behold, yet lovely, so lovely, alive with heat. Dany opened her arms to them, her skin flushed and glowing. This is a wedding, too, she thought.
[…]
And now the flames reached her Drogo, and now they were all around him. [...] Part of her wanted to go to him as Ser Jorah had feared, to rush into the flames to beg for his forgiveness and take him inside her one last time, the fire melting the flesh from their bones until they were as one, forever.
[…]
A rising heat puffed at her face, soft and sudden as a lover’s breath…
[AGOT; Daenerys X]
The interesting thing is that a Daenerys chapter follows this Jon X chapter where he describes Selyse.
Let’s keep reading Jon IX:
If he is not a kinslayer, he is the next best thing. Axell Florent’s brother had been burned by Melisandre, Maester Aemon had informed him, yet Ser Axell had done little and less to stop it. What sort of man can stand by idly and watch his own brother being burned alive?
[ADWD; Jon IX]
another Daenerys hint: Dany-Viserys or Jon killing his kin maybe?
“Salladhor Saan?” “The Lysene pirate? Some say he has returned to his old haunts, this is so. And Lord Redwyne’s war fleet creeps through the Broken Arm as well. On its way home, no doubt. But these men and their ships are well-known to us. No, these other sails … from farther east, perhaps … one hears queer talk of dragons.” “Would that we had one here. A dragon might warm things up a bit.” “My lord jests. You will forgive me if I do not laugh. We Braavosi are descended from those who fled Valyria and the wroth of its dragonlords. We do not jape of dragons.” No, I suppose not. “My apologies, Lord Tycho.”
[ADWD; Jon IX]
Jon is warned against dragons.
D) ADWD; Daenerys IX & Jon XI:
Daenerys IX
Dizzy, Dany closed her eyes. When she opened them again, she glimpsed the Meereenese beneath her through a haze of tears and dust, pouring up the steps and out into the streets. The lash was still in her hand. She flicked it against Drogon’s neck and cried, “Higher!” Her other hand clutched at his scales, her fingers scrabbling for purchase. Drogon’s wide black wings beat the air. Dany could feel the heat of him between her thighs. Her heart felt as if it were about to burst. Yes, she thought, yes, now, now, do it, do it, take me, take me, FLY!
[ADWD; Daenerys IX]
Daenerys rides Drogon for the first time and this looks like an orgasmic experience but don’t let it fool you: people in Meereen are not happy because they are dying etc...
Next chapter is realm’s shield Jon:
Jon XI
Jon clasped the offered hand. The words of his oath rang through his head. I am the sword in the darkness. I am the watcher on the walls. I am the fire that burns against the cold, the light that brings the dawn, the horn that wakes the sleepers, the shield that guards the realms of men. And for him a new refrain: I am the guard who opened the gates and let the foe march through. He would have given much and more to know that he was doing the right thing. But he had gone too far to turn back. “Done and done,” he said.
[ADWD; Jon XI]
He remembers his oath about protecting the realm.
He thinks Ghost (his Stark side) is the only protection he needs:
Ghost was the only protection Jon needed; the direwolf could sniff out foes, even those who hid their enmity behind smiles.
[ADWD; Jon XI]
Jon wants to scream that fire obsessed queen is not his queen. And he wants Selyse and Melisandre gone.
[Stannis + Melisandre + Selyse = Daenerys]
Val’s playful smile died. “You have my word, Lord Snow. I will be a proper wildling princess for your queen.” She is not my queen, he might have said. If truth be told, the day of her departure cannot come too fast for me. And if the gods are good, she will take Melisandre with her.
[ADWD; Jon XI]
A northern princess doesn’t bend the knee to fire obsessed queen:
“The queen’s face hardened. “A grievous oversight.” What faint traces of warmth her voice had held vanished all at once. “Free folk do not kneel,” Val told her. “Then they must be knelt,” the queen declared.“Do that, Your Grace, and we will rise again at the first chance,” Val promised. “Rise with blades in hand.”
[ADWD; Jon XI]
Jon remembers his Night’s Watch oath AGAIN:
“I know what I swore.” Jon said the words. “I am the sword in the darkness. I am the watcher on the walls. I am the fire that burns against the cold, the light that brings the dawn, the horn that wakes the sleepers, the shield that guards the realms of men. Were those the same words you said when you took your vows?”
[ADWD; Jon XI]
So as we can see Daenerys’ bonding with her dragon doesn’t seem like a good omen for Westeros. But at least we have our shield and warrior: Jon SNOW.
We are done with the chapters that follow each other but I am going to look at Daenerys’ last POV in ADWD too:
BONUS:
ADWD; Daenerys X:
A wolf howls when she thinks about her betrayals and it makes her sad and lonely but not less hungry:
Yet who else could it have been? Reznak, her perfumed seneschal? The Yunkai’i? The Sons of the Harpy? Off in the distance, a wolf howled. The sound made her feel sad and lonely, but no less hungry. As the moon rose above the grasslands, Dany slipped at last into a restless sleep.
[ADWD; Daenerys X]
Ants, which are coming from a WALL, bite Dany:
It turned out that their anthill was on the other side of her wall. She wondered how the ants had managed to climb over it and find her. To them these tumbledown stones must loom as huge as the Wall of Westeros. The biggest wall in all the world, her brother Viserys used to say, as proud as if he’d built it himself.
[ADWD; Daenerys X]
Wolves and crows are not good signs for her:
My flesh will feed the wolves and carrion crows, she thought sadly, and worms will burrow through my womb.
[ADWD; Daenerys X]
She embraces “Fire and Blood”:
No. You are the blood of the dragon. The whispering was growing fainter, as if Ser Jorah were falling farther behind. Dragons plant no trees. Remember that. Remember who you are, what you were made to be. Remember your words. “Fire and Blood,” Daenerys told the swaying grass.
[ADWD; Daenerys X]
In conclusion: Daenerys will be dangerous for Westeros. It seems like Jon and Starks will be against Daenerys at some point and in the end Daenerys will meet her doom because of them..
Thanks for reading...

[ i’m not one to really give my opinions on games in my tumblr
but i was replaying through 5.3 (and some thoughts visiting 5.0 again) on maximiloix to get him caught up and g o d do i just have... a little bit to say (funny, really) but there’s spoilers, and i know a couple people who follow me who haven’t done it yet - so i’mma put it under the cut for anyone interested in my rambles ]
[ so. like.
first. still sobbing about 5.3 and its build up, and don’t think i’ll ever get over it, especially after doing it a second time. knowing what’s going to happen, i think made it almost worse - it made all those conversations make sense and its just. hhhhh i love it so much.
next. the solo instance where elidibus takes you through amaurot fighting the people from your past adventures, the people you’ve grown to care about and love. g o d when i did that the first time, i think i literally cried. my heart hurt so much and i just wanted to refuse to fight.
but there’s a reason why maximiloix is in a group in the wol!au i have... because. if it were just him going through, just him as the wol. that part wouldn’t have hurt him. he probably would’ve responded with something like “i’m flattered you think i care” or like “i don’t think you know me as well as you think you do” and then just slaughter them all anyways with zero hesitation (honestly, if it came down to it, he probably would only hesitate with alphinaud, alisaie, or ryne - they’re kids! they didn’t ask for this! but, uh. that’s just hesitation. maybe like thirty seconds later he’d go “aw fuck it”). maximiloix would make the worst wol if he were traveling on his own with no one to keep him in check. i just found that so funny to me.
if it were just him, he honestly prolly wouldn’t be a wol. he would’ve sided with the ascians hands down without hesitation. if it wasn’t before, then it definitely would’ve been with amaurot - he probably would’ve dropped his weapon and go “yeah, that makes sense”... and then leave it be. and if he didn’t, whatever semblance of a heart he has left would have gone out to them as he learned more... even more so when he would realize that elidibus was just a child at the heart of it all. (that part really fucked me up for a bit)
--- HOKAY. THIS CUT IS TO TELL YOU THERES SOME THOUGHTS I HAVE ON THE 5.0 DRAMA TRAIN, AND I JUST WANT TO WARN YOU SO YOU CAN SKIP IT AND SCROLL PAST REAL FAST ---
obvs really late to the party here, mostly because severe anxiety and i don’t like getting caught up in shit like this
so. i saw a lot of posts going around at the time of 5.0 talking about “i hate emet-selch so much why would i want to fucking remember you” or “nope just gonna forget it cause fuck you” - i can understand peoples’ dislikes of emet-selch, as like, a person (as a character, damn. that’s some good writing and you can’t deny that) - yeah, he’s a fascist. he’s an absolute dick. there’s no atoning for shit like that irl but.
its like. my first thought reading all of that was.
“do people have reading comprehension? like. at all?”
he wasn’t saying “remember me”, he was saying “remember us” , y’know. remember that there were people before you. remember that our people suffered greatly because you are our legacy. remember not to repeat the mistakes of the past. remember all of these people that gave their lives to give you yours.
“history is learned, not lived”
literally from the game itself. this whole game is littered with gems like that. absolutely full of relatable lines, whether they be comedic or serious. this game is filled with so much that can be applied to our own lives.
“to take action is to hope. to believe-- to choose to believe, is to take the first step towards a brighter future.” “but if i may give voice to a personal desire... i rather you lived.” “the time left to you is precious” “if it is folly to hope, i am content to die a fool” “but come, turn your gaze to the window, my friend. the rains have ceased and we have been graced with another beautiful day”
“remember us. remember that we once lived.”
and so many more!! even the lyrics of some of the songs are so beautifully written and full of raw emotion that at some point, we can resonate with them.
there’s a post going around... talking about how, as people, we are desperate to be remembered. we write in diaries, we keep receipts of complaints from customers when they diss you about your poor-quality copper, we make etchings on walls of the days passed and our heights as we grow, we leave behind memoirs of times lost to us. so many of us strive for greatness... because we want to be remembered. we want to be learned. we want to be heard. we want our names to be remembered, our stories and our voices... and none of us will see that in the end. sure. family will be there - your pictures will be hung for the next few decades... but after it all? no one’s going to remember who you were in fifty, eighty, a hundred, a thousand, a million years from now. so the best we can do is to preserve what we have. to immortalize the tiny pieces of ourselves. the shitty artwork you drew when you were five, the remains of torn books and libraries, dirty figurines, hell - even the stains left in the walls and carpets of your old home. we make time capsules for a reason. all of us, collectively, are screaming out: “i lived! remember me, please! i was here, i lived, i learned, i loved! i cried, i got embarrassed, i got angry - but i was here! please remember me - remember us!”
is that not the same of what he’s saying? he doesn’t care if you remember him specifically. (would it matter to him? maybe? he’s a fictional character y’all, i can’t speak for his writers) but the message isn’t to remember him and all the things he did in his life. it was to remember that they were people. they tried their best. they failed, but they tried. and they existed. they loved. they cried. they grew. they mourned. they made mistakes.
it really peeves- maybe not in a “makes me angry sense”, but kinda annoys- me, even now, that people would throw away such an amazing message... simply because a fictional character did bad things in a fictional world, or just didn’t like them, said it. it really is a beautiful and terrifyingly sad message that people didn’t seem to get because they were focused on who said it. this is a sentiment everyone has shared, even if they didn’t know it.
for me, it really spoke. shadowbringers is, and was, one of the best expansions, i’ll say it. not just for the story but for the overall message of it. it’s fantastic. and i really hope that the people who made those comments - they won’t read this, i don’t think - but... i hope the rest of the expansion after that moment gave them that realization.
sorry for that huge vent/rant y’all. i just, that had been burning in my head for so long now and i finally got the words to say it. if you read through it all, thank you! and please don’t spread negativity on this subject. if you want to say something negative, just move on, please. it’s not worth my nor your time. you can make your own post about it, just don’t leave it on mine.
but seriously, thank you for going through all this. and trust me, it may not matter now - but i’ll remember you. i will. i’ll remember the wonderful people here in the small ways i do. ]

Of herbs and riddles Pt.1
Pairing: GN! MC x Satan.
Content: Fantasy AU for Obey me! MAX that was supposed to be posted as a whole but I can't fully finish it on time so at least have this :')
Warnings: It says hell at some point but I'm not sure if that's a swearword. Pretty sure anything else is not worrying, please tell me if you think otherwise so I can properly tag any sort of danger away!
(Edit: Apparently says "hell" several times. Sue me or something, I'm already crying either way.)
"Good morning, sir!" You cheerfully welcomed the young man crossing your apothecary's door. "How may I help you?"
He smiles softly, reaching the counter and looking you with the most beautiful piercing eyes you had ever seen.
"Good morning to you too." The man greets elegantly, his golden hair reflecting the candlelight filling your modest shop, the morning sun still to weak to allow the flames to die as they had been made to. By his clothes and the softness of his long and slender fingers, you soon understood he was one of those few big fishes passing by this small pound that your village is. "My dear brother has gained quite a wicked heartburn after a rather copious dinner. I was hoping you would have some remedy for his condition."
"Sure thing, sir!" You gladly answered. You loved your work as much as it was possible, and having such an interesting customer was definitely a plus, specially since foreigners were known for their generous tips. "Let me see..."
You begin wandering around your store, the magic candles now dying to let the soft sun come through the window.
The young blonde man stared quietly at you, following you quietly and looking over your shoulder towards the dried leaves and small bottles. He had seen many in his books, old as time itself, yet memorizing all of them would've been imposible within a mortal lifetime. However, instead of jealous, he felt mesmerized. There were little things he admired as much as knowledge, and you were filled with it.
Getting his head our from those thoughts, you turned around with some little bags.
"Give him a cup of chamomile tea and root of Ginger, he shall be fine sooner than a cock sings. If he's not, come over again and I'll give you a special bred of tea I'm working on." You started walking towards the counter again, closely followed by your customer and the smell of the herbs. "Giving him something to chew on rather than eat could help him too, if you feel on a rush."
"Thank you" He absentmindedly replied, the jewels in his eyes lost in the little bags you handed over, a slight hope blossoming in your chest. He said nothing about being unable to come again, so perhaps he was a newcomer rather than a traveler. "How much?"
"Two pieces for the root, the rest is on the house" you replied, keeping your smile as you handed the goods over. "After all, you're new here, aren't you?"
Your client stared at you, taking the plants and handing you the money ever so graciously you felt like you had met an angel. Four coins weighted down your hand.
"That we are." He softly said, a smile to his face. "My older brother came for a gig, he was the main wizard in the neighboring village, but he soon fell in love with this land of yours and made all of us tag along."
There was something this guy wasn't telling you, you just knew.
"Are you a wizard too, sir?"
"Not quite. I'm just a librarian." He vaguely answered, shrugging. "And I better get home before my brothers begin to grief me."
You let go a soft laugh, as he flashed you another of his smiles, turning his back to you, hand waving in the air as his silhouette.
"Wait!" You stopped him. You needed his name, something, anything, and you didn't even know why.
"Yes..?"
"... Don't let him drink milk. Makes it worse."
He laughed a bit, saying something you didn't quite want to hear, too embarrassed. What the hell had just happened?
You sighed, trying your best to keep on working, sorting your material and attending the folk with a smile brighter than the sun itself.
You had made yourself a name thanks to your knowledge, being one of the few fools to dedicate your life to science when magic was a thing. Nobody would've betted anything on you, but here you were, healing people better than any witch ever could, knowing by heart every plant that grew around your hometown.
It had been hard, but you felt like you were living a good life. You felt happy with your own situation, and after the librarian's visit, you could barely keep your heart from bouncing in excitement, hoping to meet him again.
Your chance, of course, took you fully by surprise, way sooner than expected.
It had been four days, and you were about to close after a pretty exhausting day of work when the librarian entered the place, any complains dying on your throat at the sight of his worry.
"Good evening sir, are you alright? Is it your brother again?"
You walked over to him, concern painted all over your face, but not daring to invade his personal space.
"No. Yes. What you gave me last time worked marvelously. It's not that." He sighed, closing his eyes for a second. You could see the dark skin under them. "It's other brother, actually. He's a reckless young man, and got himself in a fight. His condition is not serious, but he keeps on complaining about the scars that might be left in his face. Do you think you could help him?"
Oh. So his brother was that one idiot that tried to get away without paying from the butcher. God, you hoped he wasn't too bad.
"Yes, sure, one second." You nod before looking from plants again, his gaze fixed upon them as last time, making you somehow nervous. Perhaps a little conversation could help, while you grab the herbs. "So... Have you been sleeping fine, sir? You seem rather tired to me."
You slowly turn around, some bottles resting in your arms, softly clinking against each other as you walked towards the counter.
"I'm reading a book full of riddles." He admitted, feeling oddly at ease withing your little shop. "This far I've solved them all, yet there's one that I can't quite lay my finger on."
You start mixing substances, peeling carefully some aloe.
"Well, why don't you tell me the riddle? Maybe I can help you out."
The librarian stared at you in disbelief. Did you really think you could solve something he didn't?
Of course, he didn't really want to refuse, and would much rather see you fail by yourself.
"Sure thing" he says with a smile, his eyes shining dangerously. "I am valued by men, fetched from afar, Gleaned on the hill-slopes, gathered in groves,
In dale and on down.
All day through the air,
Wings bore me aloft, and brought me with cunning
Safe under roof.
Men steeped me in vats.
Now I have power to pummel and bind,
To cast to the earth, old man and young.
Soon he shall find who reaches to seize me,
Pits force against force, that he's flat on the ground,
Stripped of his strength if he cease not his folly,
Loud in his speech, but of power despoiled
To manage his mind, his hands or his feet.
Now ask me my name, who can bind men on earth,
And lay fools low in the light of day."
You rise an eyebrow, sealing mixing your little beverage with as much energy as you could gather.
"Sir, you must be kidding me. How could not figure that out?" You questioned, staring at the liquid to check it's colour and quality. "It's mead. Honey mead, they make some at the monastery up the hill. At times I use it to make some of my beverages taste nice, it makes any biter taste disappear."
The librarian blinks a couple times. He had thought wine to be the answer, which apparently was a close call, but whatever you were talking about didn't really ring a bell.
"It's an alcoholic beverage, right?
"Never tried it?" You were rather surprised, really. He looked like a fine man, one of those who would attend hundreds of fancy dinners. How can he not know his liquors?.
"My brothers don't like me drinking." He admits, a defeated smile to his soft lips. "I pretty much stick to tea most of the time."
"At least it's healthy!" You smile at hin, handing the mix. "Here you go, sir. It's oily and a bit thick, the onion extract might itch a bit, but worry not, it'll work perfectly. Rub it against any mark your brother might have left and it will soon be gone. If the mark happens to be darker than his skin, cut a lemon in two and rub it against the wound."
"Thank you." The blonde man smiled cheerfully, your conversation very obviously pleasing him. You had no idea how close he was to ripping the book's pages apart because of that damn riddle. "How much?"
"Two coins shall suffice, sir!" You handed him your gooey mix, receiving five whole coins in exchange. Your eyes wide . "Sir, I beg your pardon, but isn't this a bit too much? You already paid me double last time!"
He shakes his head gently.
"Two for the medicine, two for the riddle, and one for humouring me. What is it but fair?"
He messed up your hair before you could complain, soon heading home to his brothers, leaving the fire grow on your cheeks, too stunned to even close the shop as you were supposed to.
You couldn't help but find yourself hoping to meet him again, waiting for another three days to go by. Your dear librarian, however, took very little time.
In two days, he was already in front of you again, while you attended your neighbor's cuts, not allowing yourself to get your attention from the poor man no matter how handsome your new favorite customer was.
In a few minutes, your neighbor had already paid and waved you goodbye, happy as ever. You couldn't stop yourself from smiling like a fool, loving your job, before finally paying the librarian some attention.
"Good afternoon, sir! How may I help you today?"
"It's one of my brothers" he said, to none of your surprises. Honestly, he must be wasting a fortune in helping them. How many brothers did he even have? "He's been failing asleep during his shift at work, through his studying lessons, and I'm afraid he'll end up sleeping his days away. Would you be able to help me?"
You nood, soon heading to fish some herbs, as always followed by the tall man and his cryptic gaze. You didn't even know his name yet, but something about him felt like meeting an old friend.
"You know, I usually would give you some green tea, but..." You softly smile, pulling something from the bottom of your shelf before facing the young man, showing him your little treasure. "A friend of mine likes to travel. At times, he brings me this to help me whenever I feel tired or sick. I'm not exaggerating when I say it makes miracles! It's called Siberian Gingsen, but you might as well call it the holy grail. Just please remember to keep the dosage small and preferably during mornings, unless you want your brother to stay awake all night. "
Your customer nods, listening closely.
"Your brother does not have any heart issues, does he?" You ask, slightly ridding off your excitement. "We could try something else then."
He softly shakes his head.
"No, don't worry. That little brat is surprisingly healthy seeing as how he spends his days doing nothing." He sighs. As much as he enjoyed Belphegor's company, at times it was a bit worrying. No human should sleep this much without being considered dead. "How much is it?"
You stare at the Gingsen, struggling a bit. You had never thought of actually selling it, but it's not like you needed it anyways, so that's not really a reason to rise the prize. Still, it's an imported good, right?
You sigh, realizing you needed an assistant more than you'd like to, before going back to your default smile.
"Two coins shall suffice, sir!" You gifted him a smile Satan knew he would not forget in some days now. Despite his blush, he handed you four coins. "Sir, please..."
"Two for the remedy. Two for... Going to the fair tomorrow?" His words surprised you, and even if you tried your best to hide it, you were red up to your ears. "I heard from some villagers you don't usually frequent that sort of events, so I really won't mind it if you decline, but... I think we could have a nice time there."
His gentle, genuinely caring tone softly melted your heart, sweet as belladonna and just as dangerous.
You didn't really have a life aside from the shop and, at times, the market. All your free time was spent diving between pages, looking for all the information you could gather, and something in this almost stranger's eyes told you he wasn't really a party kind of person. God, ge didn't even know honey wine.
"Sir, I... I don't even know your name." You mumbled, confused, not used to how blunt this gentleman was, not even moving his eyes, calling yours like light calls a moth.
"Oh. Right." He said, faking surprise, not really willing to admit he liked being called "sir" ever so politely, fairly sure it would ruin the whole mood. "I'm Satan. A pleasure to meet you..."
He expectantly looked at you, and soon you gifted him your name, his new favorite sound.
"And now that you have a name to call me by, will you come to our little date?" He tried his best to sound secure, fearing he already knew the answer. "I'm sorry, I hope I'm not coming off as too strong. I just-"
"No, it's fine. Why not?" You smile as you best can, still nervous, but way too afraid the situation would worse with Satan's lose tongue. "Let's meet tomorrow morning at the fountain, shall we? Usually there's music as early as sunrise, I'm sure you'll adore it."
"Then I'll trust you" he answered, genuinely glad this turned out so nicely. It almost seemed like a dream. "Now, I shall go before that brother of mine falls asleep again."
And just as elegantly as he had entered, he left, his image lingering in your memory for a while.
A date.
You were having a date.
A date with the gorgeous foreigner who just so happened to frequently visit your shop.
A date with Satan.
What the hell.

Its been too long since I read the books and last time I saw the movies I was on denethor is a dick to my baby, let the man die. However, now I'm curious, since I remembered for instance that in the books he was devastated when he thought faramir died and your last reblog about that made me rethink my whole stance. Could you give me more positive denethor moments, or do I have to read the books again?
God I- I need so much for you all to understand how much I love asks like this, for PURELY selfish reasons, I just LOVE the idea of people like... doing what I do! Which is think about lotr and it’s characters and consider them in new angles and have fun with that! I feel connection and love in this chili’s tonight- ANYWAY.
To be clear, Denethor is one of my favourite characters, like JUST below Boromir in how much I love him and how furious I am with his portrayal in the films. I have a tag for him here that has a lot of good posts all about it. But positive moments for Denethor, yes ok! Lets start with my favourite quote from Denethor because it completely encompasses his- literally his ENTIRE book character;
In what is left, let all who fight the Enemy in their fashion be at one, and keep hope while they may, and after hope still the hardihood to die free.
Do you feel all the love and pride in his people and all the folk of middle earth who’re resisting this seemingly impossible threat? Even unto their inevitable end? Do you see the inherent belief that this is an unwinnable war, and yet how Denethor has remained Gondor’s greatest and most stalwart defender for all these years? GOD I do- ‘dying free’ is a VERY important sentiment that also puts a lot of his later, seemingly ‘mad’, actions into a much more understandable light. BUT I WILL TRY to not make this too much of a dissertation, god willing. SO! Onto Pippin’s swearing!
'Little service, no doubt, will so great a lord of Men think to find in a hobbit, a halfling from the northern Shire; yet such as it is, I will offer it, in payment of my debt.' Twitching aside his grey cloak, Pippin drew forth his small sword and laid it at Denethor's feet.
A pale smile, like a gleam of cold sun on a winter's evening, passed over the old man's face; but he bent his head and held out his hand, laying the shards of the horn aside. 'Give me the weapon!' he said. Pippin lifted it and presented the hilt to him. 'Whence came this?' said Denethor. 'Many, many years lie on it. Surely this is a blade wrought by our own kindred in the North in the deep past?'
'It came out of the mounds that lie on the borders of my country,' said Pippin. 'But only evil wights dwell there now, and I will not willingly tell more of them.'
'I see that strange tales are woven about you,' said Denethor, 'and once again it is shown that looks may belie the man – or the halfling. I accept your service. For you are not daunted by words; and you have courteous speech, strange though the sound of it may be to us in the South. And we shall have need of all folk of courtesy, be they great or small, in the days to come.’
The film really had no idea what to do with Pippin offering his service to Denethor as- well essentially an acknowledgement and an honouring of Boromir’s sacrifice for him. Because the Denethor in the film would have scorned it, but it’s an important plot point, so it’s just kinda in there awkwardly and uncomfortably. This is because Denethor genuinely appreciates Pippin’s gesture, his son died for this hobbit! But Pippin is fervent and honest and Denethor can tell! Denethor is grateful, he empathises! These are not traits film!denethor possessed, so we get the.... tomato... scene.... BUT ONWARDS, I consider this a positive scene, simply because Denethor and Gandalf’s rivalry in the books is just so much FUNNIER and interesting than in the films;
'And you, my Lord Mithrandir, shall come too, as and when you will. None shall hinder your coming to me at any time, save only in my brief hours of sleep. Let your wrath at an old man's folly run off and then return to my comfort!'
'Folly?' said Gandalf. 'Nay, my lord, when you are a dotard you will die. You can use even your grief as a cloak. Do you think that I do not understand your purpose in questioning for an hour one who knows the least, while I sit by?'
'If you understand it, then be content,' returned Denethor. 'Pride would be folly that disdained help and counsel at need; but you deal out such gifts according to your own designs. Yet the Lord of Gondor is not to be made the tool of other men's purposes, however worthy. And to him there is no purpose higher in the world as it now stands than the good of Gondor; and the rule of Gondor, my lord, is mine and no other man's, unless the king should come again.'
LIKE. IT’S FUNNY! Essentially Denethor’s like ‘oh ho I’m just an auld man dont be angry with me Gandy’ and Gandalf’s like ‘Denethor when you are ENFEEBLED by age you will DIE out of spite alone’ and Denethor’s like ‘OH FINE if you want to be that way, but you’re bloody annoying to deal with and I don’t TRUST you wholly so DEAL with it,’ And again we get Denethor’s like whole deal! Gondor is what he is here to defend! It’s his entire purpose in life! He doesn’t trust that Gandalf’s not going to use him for his own ends to the detriment of Gondor itself, which Gandalf LITERALLY admits he’d do in the next paragraph. Because he says ‘he’s the steward of everything, not just gondor’ which on the one hand is like, yeah, we get that, but you can understand Denethor’s perspective too. WHICH IS. GOOD CHARACTERISATION FOLKS!
'[Osgiliath] was 'It was a city,' said Beregond, 'the chief city of Gondor, of which this was only a fortress. For that is the ruin of Osgiliath on either side of Anduin, which our enemies took and burned long ago. Yet we won it back in the days of the youth of Denethor: not to dwell in, but to hold as an outpost, and to rebuild the bridge for the passage of our arms.a city,' said Beregond, 'the chief city of Gondor, of which this was only a fortress. For that is the ruin of Osgiliath on either side of Anduin, which our enemies took and burned long ago. Yet we won it back in the days of the youth of Denethor: not to dwell in, but to hold as an outpost, and to rebuild the bridge for the passage of our arms.’
This is just like a little thing but I think it’s just kinda important to emphasise that Denethor wasn’t just a politician, he bled heavily for Gondor’s safety too and the retaking of Osgiliath was an incredibly important victory that Denethor achieved for Gondor’s safety as a whole. Anyway SPEAKING of the tomato scene- god this really does entirely emphasise the difference between Film!Denethor and Book!Denethor;
‘Can you sing?'
Yes,' said Pippin. 'Well, yes, well enough for my own people. But we have no songs fit for great halls and evil times, lord. We seldom sing of anything more terrible than wind or rain. And most of my songs are about things that make us laugh; or about food and drink, of course.'
'And why should such songs be unfit for my halls, or for such hours as these? We who have lived long under the Shadow may surely listen to echoes from a land untroubled by it? Then we may feel that our vigil was not fruitless, though it may have been thankless.'
In the end Pipping doesn’t sing for him but like?? Look SEE LIKE. It’s not MEAN, Denethor is in general sardonic and kinda harsh and frustrating in tone but he’s not dismissive or uncharitable or heartless; he’s interested, he likes TALKING to Pippin, he likes to hear about the world! Songs about food and drink and weather are fine! Of course they have merit!
'Not – the Dark Lord?' cried Pippin, forgetting his place in his terror. Denethor laughed bitterly. 'Nay, not yet, Master Peregrin! He will not come save only to triumph over me when all is won. He uses others as his weapons. So do all great lords, if they are wise, Master Halfling. Or why should I sit here in my tower and think, and watch, and wait, spending even my sons? For I can still wield a brand.'
Do you hEAR the bitterness in these lines? How he has to SIT here and WAIT as he sends his loved ones to die- but he has too, he HAS to do this, it’s not new, he’s been sending his sons to their probably deaths for years, and god he wishes he could be a reckless man and just ride out himself again but there IS no one to step into his place if he should be lost and Gondor just can’t take that! IT’S cOMPELLING. And so... now we’ll end on the part you mentioned, which really is like... AGONISING, it’s heartbreaking, especially after Denethor’s manners and character up until this point, sharp, sardonic, dauntless, uncowed by ever new loss, every new defeat, Boromir’s death even did not crack him completely but now-
And as [Pippin] watched, it seemed to him that Denethor grew old before his eyes, as if something had snapped in his proud will, and his stern mind was overthrown. Grief maybe had wrought it, and remorse. He saw tears on that once tearless face, more unbearable than wrath.
'Do not weep, lord,' he stammered. 'Perhaps he will get well. Have you asked Gandalf?'
'Comfort me not with wizards!' said Denethor. 'The fool's hope has failed. The Enemy has found it, and now his power waxes; he sees our very thoughts, and all we do is ruinous.
'I sent my son forth, unthanked, unblessed, out into needless peril, and here he lies with poison in his veins. Nay, nay, whatever may now betide in war, my line too is ending, even the House of the Stewards has failed. Mean folk shall rule the last remnant of the Kings of Men, lurking in the hills until all are hounded out.'
Men came to the door crying for the Lord of the City. 'Nay, I will not come down,' he said. 'I must stay beside my son. He might still speak before the end. But that is near. Follow whom you will, even the Grey Fool, though his hope has failed. Here I stay.'
I’ll NEVER forgive the appropriation of the ‘my line is ending’ line, he doesn’t MEAN that he’s grieving the loss of his lineage, he’s grieving the loss of his WHOLE COUNTRY, of his people! As well as his son! And in this final moment with him his priorities of heart surface, where his people are banging desperately at his door, begging for their Lord to come to their aide, he refuses, because Faramir is far more important to him in this moment.
I said I wasn’t going to make this a dissertation but WHATEVER, there you are anon, hope it’s what you wanted than thANK YOU AGAIN for the ask :)

29. The Weight of the Unspoken Lie-Vitor
[Shortly after Vitor’s visit to Seaton, but before his meeting with Morcego and the rest of the party to discuss the contents of a cipher. Larc accosts Vitor about hiding his intentions to become a lich].
No matter how late the night was when Vitor arrived back at the tower, Larc was always waiting for him like a worrisome mother. Though, Vitor knew the spirit did not worry for him, but rather was keeping tabs on his activities. As his feet crossed the threshold, the wizard’s cloak that had been weighed down by rainwater dried instantly. Vitor tugged it off wearily and hung it up, retrieving his latest payment from the pockets. He could feel the ghost’s eyes on the vial and amulet, searching for their purpose and value.
“You were quite busy in Seaton, it seems.” A dismayed Larc called from the nearby wall. Vitor wondered how much of his quarry Larc recognized, the ghost had been a wizard’s apprentice before he died, it would not be unreasonable for him to guess the properties. He would not help his thinking with any exposition, the less Larc knew, the less the ghost could hound him about.
“No rest for the wicked, Larc.” Vitor dismissed, climbing the stairs to his study. He put the vial in his pocket and looped the amulet around his neck, tucking it under his shirt. This would be the first of many artifacts that he would need if Keledek’s latest ramblings had any substance to them. The meeting with the old wizard had left a bad taste in his mouth. He wished Keledek had kept to his own business, even if he had been trying to help. He had acted too familiar, throwing Abarin’s name into the conversation. Keledek might have known Vitor’s master, but he hadn’t watched him burn. All those years under his belt and still Keledek couldn’t see people for the useless wretches they were, his philosophizing about the merits of the fellow man had been nauseating.
Within one of walls of the room, there was a hidden compartment made of a hollowed-out stone. Vitor removed it and extracted the small black chest from within. The box was lined with lead and fastened with an arcane lock, it would keep the vial and the other materials he had gathered for his ambitions safe for now, until he found a better means of sequestering them. He secured the chest within the hideaway and settled into his desk chair.
Leafing through the various pieces of parchment, he found Morcego’s most recent letter. Now that his business was done, it would be time to see her. A swell of excitement and anxiety rose in his stomach with the thought. Perhaps their meeting was just for business... though the letters had suggested she had wanted to see him. It would be the first time since her departure. How he had toiled for their dream in her absence, he was so close to achieving it. Yet, the growing threats in the region and the tiefling’s new line of dangerous work left him little room for satisfaction; they loomed over him like dark shadows. The pace still wasn’t enough if he was going to ensure her safety.
“Will you tell her?” A voice from behind gave him a chill, and scowling over his shoulder, he saw Larc, floating with a troubled expression.
“It’s rude to read over someone’s shoulder, didn’t you know?” He sighed, he always had little patience for Larc, but it had grown increasingly thin the more the ghost had pried into his dealings of late.
“You are avoiding the question; will you tell her of your grand design? Of what you will have to do to achieve it?” There was an edge to his tone, one that suspected the answer that would be received.
“No.” The word stuck in Vitor’s throat, coated with the guilt that accompanied the acknowledgement of what that utterance meant. It would mean hiding it all from her and betraying her trust. She had loved him for all these years, and he cherished her. Yet, he feared what Morcego might do if she knew what he intended.
“Deplorable, how truly reprehensible and spineless you are, Vitor Monteiro. Do you fear she would leave you for good if she knew of the dark magic you intend to invoke? Something in that heart of yours, twisted and black as it is, must know this is wrong. That is why you conceal it from her.” Larc’s eyes held fire as he spoke, but also desperation. The wizard stared back at them with a festering fury.
“I do this for our future. I must ensure that Morcego and I will have a place in the wretched world. I will tarnish my own morality until it is completed fouled if it means I can carve out a refuge. There will never be a place for people like us, unless I make one.” Vitor’s thoughts turned to Abarin, there had been no place for him, either.
“Has Morcego not already found a place with her new companions?” Larc dared, and earned a dangerous look from the wizard that told him his words had struck something tender.
“ They will not be true to her, and the world will not be kind. She may not understand now, but one day she will.” The last sentence wavered, giving it away as a hope rather than a truth. Vitor paused to collect his thoughts before continuing.
“Morcego would try to stop me. If she knew what I am to become... and what I will have to give up to become it. She would beg me not to risk my life, and I am not sure I am strong enough to deny her.” Vitor admitted quietly.
“And if you do fail, and die during the transformation… what then? You will leave her heartbroken. Your ambitions will turn to ash and your folly will consume you. You must see that, You must know that this is a fool’s errand!” The ghost was shouting now, but Vitor only slumped into his chair, cradling his tired head in his hands.
“I have made arrangements for my death, should it occur. I do not think that is the result you fear, though, for if I died you would have what you want: Morcego would finally be rid of me. You cannot scare me away from something I have already steeled myself for. I will succeed in this.” Vitor rose to leave the room, he knew Larc would likely follow, but he was tired of this quarrel.
“And if you do, you will be as monstrous on the outside as you already are in the inside! I suppose either fate befits you. I only hope Morcego is wise enough to distance herself from the cursed destiny that shrouds you, lest she be consumed by it.” The ghost called after him.
“Enough. You have made your views clear.”
“Let her go, Vitor. Give up this deranged ambition.” A whispered plea escaped Larc’s spectral lips.
But the wizard could not.

CULTIVATE D-15
PROVERBS 19 (New International Version)
1 Better the poor whose walk is blameless than a fool whose lips are perverse. 2 Desire without knowledge is not good— how much more will hasty feet miss the way! 3 A person’s own folly leads to their ruin, yet their heart rages against the Lord. 4 Wealth attracts many friends, but even the closest friend of the poor person deserts them. 5 A false witness will not go unpunished, and whoever pours out lies will not go free. 6 Many curry favor with a ruler, and everyone is the friend of one who gives gifts. 7 The poor are shunned by all their relatives— how much more do their friends avoid them! Though the poor pursue them with pleading, they are nowhere to be found. 8 The one who gets wisdom loves life; the one who cherishes understanding will soon prosper. 9 A false witness will not go unpunished, and whoever pours out lies will perish. 10 It is not fitting for a fool to live in luxury— how much worse for a slave to rule over princes! 11 A person’s wisdom yields patience; it is to one’s glory to overlook an offense. 12 A king’s rage is like the roar of a lion, but his favor is like dew on the grass. 13 A foolish child is a father’s ruin, and a quarrelsome wife is like the constant dripping of a leaky roof. 14 Houses and wealth are inherited from parents, but a prudent wife is from the Lord. 15 Laziness brings on deep sleep, and the shiftless go hungry. 16 Whoever keeps commandments keeps their life, but whoever shows contempt for their ways will die. 17 Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will reward them for what they have done. 18 Discipline your children, for in that there is hope; do not be a willing party to their death. 19 A hot-tempered person must pay the penalty; rescue them, and you will have to do it again. 20 Listen to advice and accept discipline, and at the end you will be counted among the wise. 21 Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails. 22 What a person desires is unfailing love; better to be poor than a liar. 23 The fear of the Lord leads to life; then one rests content, untouched by trouble. 24 A sluggard buries his hand in the dish; he will not even bring it back to his mouth! 25 Flog a mocker, and the simple will learn prudence; rebuke the discerning, and they will gain knowledge. 26 Whoever robs their father and drives out their mother is a child who brings shame and disgrace. 27 Stop listening to instruction, my son, and you will stray from the words of knowledge. 28 A corrupt witness mocks at justice, and the mouth of the wicked gulps down evil. 29 Penalties are prepared for mockers, and beatings for the backs of fools.
1. What is your attitude and approach towards planning? What is the Lord teaching you about it?
I’m a firm believer of planning!! Knowing that every single day i have to live out different plans and serve different roles in school, church, family, with friends or even at work, seeing things as such tend to cause me to be stressed and often anxious because there are many things i need to attend to. I believe i can’t live without my planner, because without my planner, i am out of control — my life would be in a mess and i wouldn't know when i have to start doing work to get it done by a specific dateline, i wouldn't be able to prepare and achieve personal or ministry goals. With that, my planner also helps me to get my priorities right, i am able to see the free slots that i have for my friends and family without having to compromise my weekly meetings with my cellgroups — which i cherish.
As i grow older and am in a new phase of life in uni and in YA, more things are added into my plate and i learnt that truly being faithful in planning is not about control, It is not just about stuffing my schedule packed and making my life more purposeful by doing many things to gain control over my future’s achievement and success in life. But it is about worship and God, with these many things on my plate, will my relationship be affected and neglected(?).
The biggest lesson i’ve learnt is learning to be wise as i plan, _sometimes we got to let go of certain things when we know it will get in the way of our walk with God and take on certain things in courage and boldness when we know that is what God wants us to do. _
2. What are some plans that you are making about work, relationships, family, spiritual life or ministry? How can you entrust these plans to God?
For work plans, i believe i’m not the most well verse in the area haha but i want to experience more internships in the HR industry to gain more exposure while keeping my career options open to change. Relationship wise, i’m still on the path of preparing myself for the one that God has plan for me. In the area of my family, i hope to rekindle my relationship with my mom before my dad comes out from prison and i hope that will ease the tension and change that is about to happen in the future. For my spiritual life, i want to read some Christian books to strengthen my knowledge on the bible, making references back to the bible and cross referencing w the content of the bible to learn and remember the stories!! Lastly, for my ministry, i plan to come up with a yearly plan that i can keep track of (ministry is such a broad topic so i definitely have to put some form of structure and flexibility in it and not let things just go from my feels)
I think while i plan, i make sure to remember that God is in control of my life so if my plans were to change, i believe when God closes my door, He opens another that is the best for me & i’ll trust and follow. (:
