I've seen many analyses that discuss Ungoliant as an un-being, absence itself, but I would like to raise another question. If Ungoliant has assumed (roughly...) the form of a spider and therefore lacks ears, can she hear the Music of creation? Can she perceive it through her web (currently posited as an externalized sensory modality for spiders), or is it utterly imperceptible to her? Perhaps a creature from beyond Arda, not numbered among the Valar, might desire the light created by a song she could not hear and entered the world anyway.
