Here we go, some nice moments in Rescue Bots!!

I'm going to write this with the assumption that some people reading this may not have ever seen Rescue Bots or might only be somewhat familiar, as I realise the target audience skews much younger than most Transformers media does, so I'm not 100% sure how popular it was outside of that demographic in total.

Off the top of my head:

-There is an in-universe VR game called Element Quest that has a couple really good episodes, the design is cute and there are tons of meme references. Blades, at one point, goes "I used to like video games. Then I took an arrow to the knee." LOL

-I think it's cool how they actually do tie in their continuity with TFP's continuity. For example, "What Rises Above" (RB) canonically comes before "Nemesis Prime" (TFP), and this is directly referenced in the dialogue in TFP when Optimus says that he is late arriving to the base as he was exploring an underground energon deposit-- This is the deposit he explores with the Rescue Bots.

-THERE IS A MUSICAL EPISODE. IT IS EXTREMELY GOOD

-Woodrow Burns, the Chief's brother, is kind of an idiot asshole, although he's not actively malicious. But he is great with the kids and for whatever reason the only thing I can ever remember about this character is when he goes up to Cody after it's been a long time since he saw him last and says "You've grown a whole foot since the last time I saw you-- Now you'll need three socks!" IDK I just think that's a real cute dad joke thing to say to a little kid lol :')

-There is an episode where they explore the local folklore of Griffin Rock, and TL;DR the local lore is that their island is where literal griffins used to nest seasonally. So throughout the episode, there's this kind of vibe of "OK are these electrical magnetic pulses or whatever like a science problem or a magic problem" and it's actually a very cute and fun vibe, especially since Cody is talking about the lore in the first place as part of his work towards a Scouts badge and Blades is very cute in this episode, the bots are all like "okay magic isn't real but uhhh what if magic's real?" for a minute and it's great :')

-Doc Greene/Green creates a ton of fun science devices throughout the show, but the names of some are just so doofy and fun. I love the "Torna-Don't", which is a thing designed to dispel tornados. Of course. lmao

-All the weird small town local events are also very silly and cute, and weirdly realistic for those of us who are familiar with this kind of local event thing, lmao. One of my favourite concepts is one of what seems to be several crawdad-related festivals, in which there is apparently a televised crawdad race. It's a bunch of shrimps put on a tiny racetrack, like Olympic runners. LOL

-At one point, Blurr shows up, and when the Rescue Bots are trying to acclimate him to working with humans, Chase is like "Humans seem to have two genders, which are defined by how many cooties they have." This implies that as far as the Rescue Bots are aware, 1) cooties are real and 2) human gender is defined solely by how many cooties a person has, and not by anything else, thus leaving their understanding of human gender fairly open (and it is also clear they have solely learned about gender from young kids in a small town which is likely why they state there are two genders but then make it clear that gender is a cooties thing and not an inherently physical thing, which makes sense in context and is kind of great because it gives more leeway for gender diversity than I expected) and I love this a lot. What is human gender? Cooties. That's all. So someone with a particularly high number of cooties could be another gender altogether, because why not?

-There is a body swap episode, which treats us to Blades in Dani's body trying on dresses in her room. He picks an orange and white one, which matches his paint job. I also love this a lot.

-Heatwave is gruff as hell especially at the start of the series and constantly starts shit or perpetuates shit with Kade, which is super funny. Just this centuries old Cybertronian fucking with this doofus boy who keeps leaving donuts in his cab. God dammit Kade, lmao.

-There is an episode where Cody is aged up via Science Device, and we get to see an older Cody, who more closely resembles his father than his older brother does. It's cute that he'll look like his dad when he's older. :')

During this episode, he assists in a rescue, and the girl his brother has a crush on tries to hit on him, but he clearly doesn't get what's happening and thinks it's icky because of course he does, he's a kid. I just think this scene is handled well and it's cute that his reaction to being hit on is still "ewww girls" but his brother is still absolutely pissed off about it anyway LMAO like jesus Kade, relax

-Kade's mostly an asshole but he's shown to be a really good rescuer who genuinely cares about people, and he has moments where he really comes through for his family and realises on his own that he should shut up and back down on his bullshit, thus making him a better developed and more realistic asshole brother character than 99% of asshole brother characters in most shows. I think this is pretty solid because it does lead to effective character development here and there, and it makes his positive moments with his family and the bots that much nicer. :)

-Cody is such a good kid. He is often willing to give people or ideas a chance when nobody else will, and even though he's too young to actively participate in most missions, he stays involved by helping at their dispatch centre. He's a smart little dude, who has a lot of heart and a ton of potential. One of the few child characters in anything that I actually like, because I think they write him extremely well: He is young, but he is not stupid. He is not treated like an accessory or like the property of his family, he's his own person with a distinct personality within his family, with a reasonable amount of autonomy. And he's a person who is still learning and has valuable contributions while also needing guidance or support at times. 10/10

-Dani gradually gets better at helping Blades deal with his flight anxiety (and sticks up for him when the others might mock him a little for it), and this is not only inherently very nice and cute, but it also makes a lot of sense as she is a first responder/medic and we see her offer the same reassurances towards the people she helps to rescue.

-The writing for the Burns Family in general is some of the best family group character writing in anything tbh, they handle the family dynamic so well in this show, and it's extra cute as the Rescue Bots all learn a lot from observing how the family takes care of one another and the townspeople they rescue. :')

-Blades has anxiety. I also have anxiety, so I am biased and clearly love this dude, lmao. He's so fucking relatable and even though sometimes the others rip on him, it is clear that they're also very proud of him for trying his best to deal with a situation which for him is particularly difficult (he was forced to take a flight capable alt-mode when this is something he is explicitly not comfortable with) and his team mates do support him, even though Heatwave is a douche sometimes (although it is clear this is usually due to stress or something else and that the actual problem isn't Blades). Over the course of the series, Blades does develop a little more confidence, and it's very cute and nice to see him puffing himself up a little more. :)

-The overall attitudes the bots have towards humans in this show is sweet. It's clear they don't really understand humanity or humans as a whole, but it also doesn't really matter because they are so specifically oriented to their local population on the island and their focus is a relatively small community of humans. They take their duties seriously and will protect this population, even if they don't really understand the people outright. They gradually start to respect the locals (and the Burns Family) more and more as they work with them, and get acclimated to Earth. They love their dumbass weird little humans :')

This leads to a lot of fun shenanigans with the bots not understanding things, or only understanding things as they have been explained by the children, which is hilarious.

-There is an episode where local thieves steal Chase, and inspired by Cody's school drama project, he decides to go undercover after watching a bunch of old detective movies. This includes him narrating things to himself, which he is called on when Dani enters the garage and asks him "Why are the lights off? Are you talking to yourself?" lmao

-Although it isn't explicitly canonical, it's easy to interpret both Chase and Blades as being neurodivergent. Both of them display various behaviours and traits which can potentially be understood in this way, and I'm just glad that there's a show for kids where two of the main characters, who are rescue workers, are shown to be competent and skilled at their jobs and accepted by the community for who they are while also being neurodivergent. <3 It's such a good vibe when the other characters support or defend these two in particular, especially when Chase or Blades might be confused or upset about something. Chief Burns is especially great working with Chase.

-Any episode where Optimus shows up in Rescue Bots usually has some gems of cuteness/silliness. The Elvis line still takes me out, LMAO. "You're bigger than Elvis!" "I have not met this Elvis, and I am unaware of his size." 10/10 writing, I fucking love Rescue Bots

-The bots constantly call out a bunch of details that are entirely appropriate for robots from space to notice and recognise as somewhat weird, whereas a lot of the human characters are so used to 1) being human and 2) living on this incredibly weird little technologically advanced island that nothing really phases them anymore. So we can actually identify more with the bots at time, despite the fact that they are also providing an outsider point of view, which is really clever! :)

-The theme song is a fucking banger. It's so good. I love this song so much. I wish we got a full version of it, but this is the best extended version of it that I've been able to find. Enjoy!!!

-There's a lot of fairly adult stuff in the show, more than I think people realise! The tone can never get too dark outright as it is intended for young kids as the primary demographic, but there's a lot of situations, conversations, etc. that are genuinely engaging and interesting from an adult perspective, which is a large part of what makes it a great watch for all ages.

Some situational examples include scenarios where children are imperilled in natural disasters, accidents, even kidnapping at one point.

Non-kid related situations include risks and threat to civilians from AI development and the dangers that uncontrolled or poorly thought out technology can cause or exacerbate, which is significant in context and also interesting to think about given our current relationship IRL with rapid tech development and concerns around how that technology is being made and applied, either in reality or in theory.

Some dialogue examples include scenes where the bots mention their grief over being unable to save Cybertron, a sense of guilt that they were in stasis for so long even though this was beyond their control, awareness that they may be the last Rescue Bots team in operation on Earth or anywhere else in the universe (a sense of loneliness and a responsibility as the last upholders of their specific creed), struggles with their sense of duty and concerns around their ability to fulfil their expectations for themselves and meet the expectations of others while rising to the demands of their unique situation, and so on.

this is already pretty long lmao, there's a ton of stuff I really like about Rescue Bots, but I hope this might encourage others to check out the show if you haven't before, it's well worth a watch! :)

Spitting thoughts out:

Lmao notice how there is stuff all over the downstairs and the upstairs hallways and staircases but he left the kitchen mostly clean? Same. Getting to food = important.

So it makes sense that they have multiple med kits and fire extinguishers because they’re a rescue family.

Cody seems to have a lot of dinosaur related little kid stuff so Dino kid confirmed.

He seems to be a big reader but Cody’s a smart kid so yeah we could’ve figured that. Also I bet Charlie has preached the need to get off the internet and do other things.

Makes sense that he has a lot of soccer balls because apparently it’s the family sport. Kade, Dani, and Graham have lots of soccer trophies. There was a whole episode about how Cody is bad at soccer.

Makes sense he has a lot of basket balls and baseballs. We see the family play basketball all the time and at the end of the soccer episode, Kade insists Cody try out for baseball.

You would think they’d have a shed or something to put all their sports stuff in??? Why have them inside????

Why the boomboxes?? I could see if one of them used to be Charlie’s and he gave it to Cody, but why two?

The magician hat and the trumpet are both call backs from previous episodes. I don’t remember exactly the trumpet one, but it was when he was trying new things for a lad pioneer badge or extra credit in school or something. Heatwave recommended martial arts but it didn’t go well???

The duplicate of the Teddy bear with the police shirt and the duplicate of the magician hat are clear accidents.

The moose hat is because the moose is the mascot of the team Kade was on.

Why the tuba? What’s with the water tanks? Cody has his own plant? When’d he make the Optimus head? That would’ve been cute to see!

Miracubots au: Akumas

Been a few days but I'm back!

Upfront, we don't have Akuma forms settled for everyone. SOME BITCHES *Stares at Chief, Dani and Kade* ARE SHOCKINGLY HARD TO DESIGN FOR.

So this isn't a complete list, hell if this ever became an actual fic some of them might end up changing.

Without further Adu, a very incomplete list of Akumas:

Ticket Master: Might as well get the Mr Pidgon equivilant out of the way, Don and his speeding tickets make him a weekly Akuma giving everyone in Griffin Rock headaches, especally the Heros. Everyone keeps begging Chief to just impound his car already but Don always pays off his fines so his hands are kinda tied.

Crawdaddy: So you know how there's occasionally a Dude who just has a Flobbster on a Leash? Ya, Ya he get's Akumatized over worrying about his pet's health. Don't worry the Flobster turns out ok.

Demolicious: Expect the spelling of this one to change a half dozen times because I hate myself and thought a portmantu of Demolition and Malicious was a great idea. Graham's Akuma form surprisingly enough formed when Graham just comepletly lost his temper after a stressful week and having to deal with a Karen of a tourest who decided to let her kids play in a derelict building he and Boulder where trying to safely demolish, and blamed him for the kids getting hurt.

Evilistratior: Alright this one was briefly mentioned and is something I kinda put in just for me. Being a very old OC of mine Dusk who I love very much. Think Bendy and the Ink machine meets Samarah from the ring and you kinda get the vibe of our Evilistratior, though instead of objects he creates ink creatures by drawing in his sketch pad as Dusk's an artist. As part of the self indulgent nonsence he becomes Graham's boyfriend. They even end up getting reakumatized into Demo and Evie together and are just an annoyingly sweet couple even when Evie's setting ink demons on everyone and Demo's trying to blow up the fucking island.

Glory Hog: Heatwaves Akuma caused by lingering stress over the entire Swallowtail situation and Kade falling back into his own glory hog ways. Glory Hog has the ability to 'Take away all attention and direct it to his self' Basically if you get hit by his beam, you kinda seace to exist for other people. They don't see you or acknowlage your there, your basically a ghost walking through your own life which is kinda horrorfying.

Emperata: Chase's Akuma formed after their reveal, Chase struggling with the sudden change in dynamic when he's become so acustomed to just the Burns family knowing. Coupled with the towns people not knowing how to treat him and just falling back on treating him like a robot when the more socal members of the team get readily accepted. Causes him to become Emperata, appearing as if Chase really had the horrorfic surgery done to him, and able to inflict the same on his brainwashed minions.

Halloweenie: More of a joke Akuma TBH, Blades after getting scared during Earlyween and getting upset at some teens tormenting some frightened younger kids, becomes the pumpkin fairy themed Halloweenie....Who makes everything cute. That's it. Cody and Frankie actually let him run around unchallenged for a bit because he is literally hurting no one, even if someone's wearing a scary costume and get zapped they can just, take the costume off no problem. And there have been a few occasions where letting the Akuma get it out of their system has calmed them down to be beatten without much of a fight.

Razorback. Boulders Akuma and it's a *bad* one. The idea I came up with was uhh....Graham and Dusk on a date off island when they run into uhhh....Anti-Anti-Fascsits if you catch my meaning. Resulting in Graham getting hurt enough to need the hospital and Dusk in jail needing bailing out for defending the pair of them. Boulder having never known about this side of humanity is just so blindsided and *angry* he's more or less a ball of walking distruction before he's calmed and deakumatised.

Defensor:....You saw it coming, don't pretend. Ya in this universe the episode where Cheif get's hurt and goes the hospital goes a little worse, not too much so, but the bots getting a nasty reminder of not only how fragile humans are but how short lived they are...What's more, their humans are emergancy responders, a profession that famously *shortens* those already brief lifespans....Ya, their pain and grief causes them to be fused into the group Akuma Defensor, who desides to take over the security systems Vigil was meant to once operate, they'll keep their family safe....no matter what....

How do you think the rescue bots would react to have a sparkling dumped on them to look after? Say Optimus found the bitlet and was like ehh can’t stay with us in Jasper too unsafe so gave it to the Rescue bots.

Ohhhh my goodness

I can tell you right now that Blades and Boulder are thrilled. Those two take one look at the tiny bundle sleeping so peacefully in Optimus Prime's arms and immediately come down with stage 5 baby fever. They're practically climbing over each other to be the first to hold them, cooing over how cute they are and full on heart eyes. They're nearly drooling the baby is so painfully adorable, tiny and nubby with the most angelic little face, their vents making soft little puffs as they're dreaming. The two of them start work on plans for a nursery within 10 seconds of bitty's arrival, Boulder already pulling up blueprints and babyproofing protocols, while Blades is thinking about toys and soft blankets and interior decorating. They're so excited, and definitely have some rose colored glasses on about the reality of having a baby around

Heatwave and Chase, on the other hand, are in a state of shock. They just had a fragile infant dropped on them, and depending on when this takes place, Griffin Rock isn't aware that they're aliens. Having a sparkling around is going to severely complicate keeping their cover. Not to mention make doing their jobs more difficult, as sparklings need round the clock care and supervision, and they can't very well leave the kid with the Burns family. Unless the sparkling is a minicon, they're already bigger than their human hosts.

Regardless. The kid is here now and there's not really anything they can do to change it, so they're gonna have to find a way to make this work. Chase is in charge of making a baby care schedule, allocating everyone's time to optimize work getting done and sparkling never being left alone.

Once the sparkling is awake Blades and Boulder are all over them, both wanting to shuttle them around and introduce them to everyone, showing them all the wonderful things they so thoroughly enjoy about earth and especially anout this charming little island community. Bitty is just happy to be held and snuggled and showered with attention. Despite their rough beginnings they're a happy, healthy baby, and they're a huge hit. Graham is fascinsted by them, and Dani secretly has a soft spot for babies. Cody is just happy to no longer be the youngest in the family 🤭

The first night is a little rough: Blades and Boulder both reeeeaaaally want to take the baby for sleepy time snuggles, and while they're squabbling Heatwave steps in and surprises everyone saying he will take them for the first night. He strikes me as the only one that's really dealt with really small sparklings before: he wasn't a sire before the war, but he was definitely an uncle. Sparklings this young won't sleep through the night, and he knows a recharge deprived Blades is a cranky monster. Plus Boulder sleeps like the dead and likely wouldn't hear them crying. Despite the team's protests he's firm, and says "Little Bit" will be staying with him and that's final. They get to bond some while he's pacing around with them at 3 a.m., and he'll never admit it but his spark's already softening. He can't help but be fond of them, and promises to do his best to give them a good life so far away from home 💖

In your Corazon in TFP AU, during the Shadow Siege event, what's the Rescue Bits reaction to meeting the Strawhats and other OP universe people who slipped through?

Especially the non human ones like Chopper, Bepo, Jinbei, and Pedro.

Jinbei had been on the island for at least a month before getting picked up by Team Prime and Griffin Rock is already weird on its own. Mostly prepared to put it lightly. There's still some shock and awe.

What to get Kade to curse in shock? Drop Katakuri right before him and prepare for Chase to call out bad language. Chopper's cuteness made the small doctor the most approachable with Bepo following second. Heatwave tries so hard to keep up the tsundere appearance but those two just chip away at it.

Dani and Pedro bumps heads quite often as the former doesn't like the latter's attitude. Blades accidentally breaks it up thinking it's one of those Enemies To Lovers tropes from a RomCom he watched. Helicopter Bot gives me pure shipper vibes and drags Monet into it.

Chief Burns does his best to keep the peace thankfully with some help from Jinbei. Usopp practically snared Boulder and Graham through his inventions alongside Pop Greens. Nami makes sure Franky nor Doc Green goes nuts in the technology apartment.

Cody and Frankie just chuckle at the sight. It's only further proof that there's more odd things out there than just Griffin Rock. Luckily everyone gets along...mostly.

Watching Rescue Bots and the shipping material is everything.

Definitely headcanon Blades as trans. Blades and Dani have such a cute relationship.

Frankie and Cody are definitely new favourites, personally lean more of them ending up together instead as a sucker for slow burn friends to lovers trope and always headcanon that Pricella was into girls and have a thing for Frankie and later grew up to have a crush on Miko too.

Either way, Chief Burns, Doc Greene, and Dr. Baranova are all allies and support them proudly. Even Madeline Pynch loves her daughter and joins in to support her daughter in a more subtle way.

Blurr is fun, Salvage is a sweetie, Quickshadow is awesome, and High Tide definitely had a few flings with Optimus and Ratchet and Megatron definitely disliked him.

Everyone on Griffin Rock are LGBTQ+ allies, Pride Festivals are hectic but in the best way there. Mayor Lusky, though not the best mayor, is an ally. Huxley Prescott also does his finest broadcast during the Pride parade. Mrs. Needlelander is that granny who will fight any tourist who have a bad word against the LGBTQ+ community, Mr. Peddipaws is known to scratch eyes

Blades X Reader – A Minor Emergency

A/N – Welp, Blades won the vote and he was a lot of fun to write for.

Warnings – None.

“I don’t like this,” Blades said to Dani as they flew over Griffin Rock, checking how bad the flood damages were after a stray flobster had burst a water main in the aquarium.

“Blades, please concentrate,” Dani reprimanded him.

“But-”

“Hang on, I think I see something,” Dani said, retrieving her binoculars from the passenger seat to scan the roads below.

Blades remained dutifully quiet, though he still quivered in his anxiety. Finally, Dani put down her binoculars, finding nothing worth reporting to the team.

“(Y/N) should have called me,” Blades whined, picking up where he left off.

“Maybe they’re busy Blades. They don’t have to talk to you every day.”

“Why not? You talk to me every day.”

“We live together,” Dani deadpanned, bemused by the turn the conversation had taken.

Blades fell silent, bottling his concerns about you for the rest of the mission. Why hadn’t you called him? Were you suffering in this emergency too? Had you lost your phone? Or was it possible that you didn’t like Blades as much as he liked you? He wanted to tell you how much he liked you, but every time he tried, anxiety took hold of him and he couldn’t do it.

Blades sighed. He wished that he could be brave like Heatwave, or blunt like Chase. Even Boulder managed to be forthcoming about his feelings, but Blades wasn’t like that. He felt like such a coward.

Still, just because he couldn’t tell you about his feelings didn’t mean that he couldn’t find out what was going on with you. He resolved to visit you as soon as the rescue mission was over. Alas, taking care of a flooded town was easier said than done, and Blades found himself impatient to be free of the whole thing.

Boulder and Graham managed to fix the burst pipe from the Aquarium in good time. Chief and Chase were in charge of locating and aiding stray citizens. Heatwave was given a modification by Doc Green that allowed him and Kade to remove the flood water from Griffin Rock. All that was left for Blades and Dani was to provide air support and make sure that everything was going according to plan.

As soon as the mission was over, Blades took Dani back to the firehouse. The second Dani hopped out from the cockpit, he wasted no time in flying over to your house. He transformed to his root mode, standing outside your window and calling your name.

He wished he had gone to the wash racks before coming over, but he was desperate to know that you were okay.

“(Y/N),” Blades called again, tapping the side of your bedroom window.

Finally, you headed to the window, opening it to look out at Blades. He immediately noticed that you looked different than usual.

Your hair looked almost like it was wet. ‘Is that what it looks like when it hasn’t been washed?’ Blades found himself wondering.

On top of that, you were in your pyjamas in the daytime. Dark rings underlined your eyes, and Blades definitely knew what those were from Dani, who was not a morning person, as Blades had learned the hard way.

Your skin had lost its usual healthy pallor, but Blades didn’t know whether that was normal for humans. After all, if they could get darker from the sun, was it possible for them to get lighter without it.

“What’s up, Blades?” You croaked, your throat aching with each spoken word.

“Is your vocaliser broken?” Blades asked, staring at you. He had heard that some human voices changed, but he was sure that was at a younger age.

You rubbed your eyes with the back of your hand, having little time for the bot today. “I’m too tired for this today… Can you come back in like, a week?”

A week?! Blades didn’t want to go a week without you. Was something wrong? Were you mad at him? Blades quickly started a mental list of anything he might have done to upset you.

Upon seeing Blades grow anxious, you took pity on him, deciding to explain your plight, so long as it meant you could go back to bed.

“I’m sick. I need to rest. We good now?”

“Sick? How did you get sick? What do you need? Dani’s a medic. I could bring her to you and-”

You put a hand to your temple, a headache forming that made you feel even worse. “Hey, it’s okay. I just need some sleep, alright?”

“No, not alright. What if you only think you need sleep but you actually need a super rare cure that can only be found deep in the mountains?”

You stared blearily at your friend, “No more cartoons for you.”

Blades looked put-out at your conclusion, upset that you weren’t taking him seriously when he was terrified over your fate.

“It’s just a common cold, Blades,” You told him. “Every human gets one from time to time. I just have to sleep this off and drink some water, alright?”

Reluctantly, Blades agreed with you. Although it pained him to do so, he transformed and flew away, back to the firehouse. You had to smile as your friend left, vowing that you would thank him properly for his concern once you were feeling better.

Despite telling Blades that you needed sleep, it took you hours to drift off. First, you were too hot, then too cold, then your nose was too stuffy and after that it wouldn’t stop running. However, you outlasted the aches, pains and general discomfort, until your eyelids grew heavy and sleep enveloped you… for all of five minutes.

You groaned, hearing the sirens from outside your house. Chase’s voice boomed through his loudspeakers so the entire neighbourhood could hear everything he said.

“Attention citizens of Griffin Rock, please pass by the police barricade in an orderly fashion. Thank you for your cooperation.”

Your body protested as you got up to look out of the window, wondering what the emergency could possibly be. You couldn’t see anything however as Blades’ face came into view.

“(Y/N)!” He cried out energetically. “Feeling any better?”

You ignored his question, instead asking one yourself.

“What’s going on?”

“We’re responding to an emergency.”

“What emergency?” You asked wondering what could have happened on Griffin Rock now.

Blades stared at you with apparent confusion, “It’s you.”

“What?”

“You’re the emergency. See?”

Blades stepped aside to show you the police barricade that Chase was setting up in front of your house.

You tried to fight your rising annoyance and stay calm with Blades who was very clearly overreacting, “Blades, why do you need a barricade?”

“So nobody else infects you. Dani told me that was probably how you got sick in the first place.”

“Right, and is Dani here now?”

“No. I really didn’t want to wake her. She does not appreciate being woken up.”

“The feeling’s mutual,” You grumbled.

“What?” Blades asked, mishearing your complaint.

You glared at him, not at all in the mood for his misunderstanding of human behaviour. “Look Blades, I am not an emergency. When the island is spewing lava, that is an emergency. Please can you stop this so I can get some rest? I am literally begging you right now.”

Blades did feel guilty at upsetting you, but he was also not easily deterred. He was not willing to see you get any worse in your time of need. Maybe you didn’t think that you classed as an emergency, but he did.

As a compromise, he offered to keep the noise down for you.

Angrily, you slammed your window shut, storming away from him. It took you a few minutes to find your phone underneath the mass of crumpled tissues that littered your bedside table. As soon as you had it, you dialled 911.

Chief Burns, used to emergency calls answered within one ring, “Griffin Rock Emergency Services, what’s the emergency?”

“Hey Chief, it’s (Y/N). Sorry to disturb you so late, but Blades and Chase are barricading me in my house.”

“They’re what?” Chief Burns asked exasperatedly.

“Blades got it into his head that I’m going to die of this cold or something. Please can you call them back?”

“Of course, (Y/N). Get well soon and sorry for the hassle.”

“Thanks Chief.”

You waited a few minutes until Chase’s orders to the neighbourhood stopped. You slumped back onto your bed in relief. Once again, you were about to try to sleep when an unusual feeling overcame you.

You tiredly went back to the accursed window which seemed to show you all of life’s problems. When you got there, you found Blades standing resolutely outside. You opened the window, sighing. Blades’ optics snapped to you. He was terrified that you were going to hate him now, yet he still couldn’t bring himself to leave.

“I thought Chief called back the Honour Guard,” You croaked in an attempt at a joke, coughing shortly after.

“I have to stay during an emergency,” Blades argued meekly. “That’s my job.”

“This isn’t an emergency.”

“Please don’t send me away again,” Blades whispered, looking hurt at the prospect. “I just want to be here for you.”

Your heart melted at his plea, so you gave a small nod, “Okay Blades… But if there are any real emergencies then you have to go there before coming back.”

“Yes!” Blades agreed enthusiastically.

“And you can’t make too much noise.”

“I’ll be as quiet as a rat,” He claimed, mixing up the idiom.

“Okay Blades, I’m going to bed now, goodnight.”

“Goodnight,” Blades smiled, waiting till you had closed your window to quietly add, “I love you.”

While he hadn’t confessed his feelings to you, it was the first time that he had ever said them aloud. With that, standing vigil over your residence, he felt better than he had since coming to Earth. He had lost his friends, family, and entire planet to the war; at least on Earth, he had found something worth gaining.

Day 1: Witchers and/or Witches

“Get down!” a voice called, and Lambert fell to the ground, just in time for a blast of fire to fly over his head, singeing the top of his hair.

The griffin that Lambert had been fighting let out one last pitiful shriek then collapsed, feathers floating around its head. Lambert rolled onto his back, exhausted and sore, the wound in his arm bleeding sluggishly, slowing his sword movements down.

Another few moments and the griffin would have overpowered him.

“Fuck,” he groaned, covering his eyes with gloved and bloodied hands. When he opened them he had been expecting to see a sorceress, maybe the purple eyes of Geralt’s Yennefer. The voice he’d heard had definitely sounded female.

Now he wasn’t so sure. The person staring down at him was a witcher, slitted golden eyes giving them away, but under their armour there was the definite shape of breasts, a silver cat head resting between them. Long dark hair was pulled back into a bun, and their eyes were lined in kohl. Lambert was… confused.

“Umm…” he mumbled, scratching at the stubble on his cheeks, “hi?”

The stranger cocked their head and smirked, flipping a bloody dagger in one hand. “Name’s Aiden, and you’re welcome.”

Lambert just blinked, still trying to process the handsome beauty above him, his mouth dry and his heart beating faster in his chest. “Hi,” he repeated before cursing and covering his face.

“Wow, eloquent aren’t you? Are all you wolves lacking in words? What do they teach you in that mysterious keep of yours?” Aiden chuckled, pulling Lambert’s hand away from his face, a strong grip on his arm.

And before he could protest, Lambert was pulled to his feet.

“Thanks.”

“No problem, wolf,” Aiden winked, one hand on their hip as their eyes flickered to the claw wound on Lambert’s arm. “Want help with that?”

Lambert shrugged, not wanting to admit that help would be great, not wanting to seem weak.

“For Lillit’s sake, wolf,” Aiden groaned, “I am going to regret this, but do you have somewhere to stay? I’ll patch you up there.”

“Got a room at the inn.”

“Lead the way!” Aiden sighed, “and take some swallow whilst you’re at it. I don’t want you bleeding out before we get there.”

Lambert scoffed. “You’re not my mother… father? Parent? Fuck.”

Aiden just laughed, not confirming anything and leaving Lambert even more confused than before then they set off for town together. Swallow helped the dull ache in Lambert’s arm, and he could feel his energy slowly coming back to him as they walked. He still leaned heavily on Aiden, their steps sluggish but steady on the path. By the time the pair made it back to the inn, Lambert could walk without help, but the swallow had already worn off, and the wound needed stitches. He also needed to repair his armour, but that could wait until morning. Food and rest were his top priority.

The innkeeper, however, wasn’t exactly pleased to see that Lambert had gained a friend on his quest to defeat the griffin. The man sneered as they approached the bar, hostility coming off of him in rolling waves.

“And who’s this?” he grumbled.

“Don’t mind them, just a stray cat I picked up on the way,” Lambert muttered. “They won’t be a bother.”

Aiden made a strange noise at Lambert’s words, and when Lambert turned to face them, he was taken aback by the blinding smile on their face, golden eyes wide and nearly completely black.

“What?” Lambert huffed, struggling to keep the smile off his own face, turning back to the bar to hide.

“You called me ‘they’,” Aiden breathed in a quiet whisper.

“Ah, fuck. Yeah. I did. Was that not right?”

“No! I mean. No, yes, It’s fine, more than fine. Perfect,” Aiden's voice rumbled into a soft purr on the last word, their scent warm and sweet, addictive and beautiful.

“Oh. Good,” Lambert said, letting out a sigh. He’d figured them out at last, and he’d made them happy. He wasn’t sure why it mattered so much, probably because the idiot saved his life, but he wanted them to be happy.

He wanted them to be happy… because of him.

Stormsight and Frankie

I think I mentioned this with @geluatekurama and realized I never actually made a post about this, so I decided to do something about it.

A while ago, I mentioned to my mutual that if Stormsight ever developed a crush, he would most likely fall for Frankie.

When these two meet, he would quickly acknowledge she's smart, but would need to be encouraged by others to get to know Frankie better, I imagine Charlie and Boulder as most likely to suggest the idea.

Doc Greene would be hesitant to let a Decepticon befriend his daughter, but I can see Frankie receptive to the idea, but would make it clear that if he tries anything, she'll make sure he regrets it.

Stormsight would believe her threat.

But after that, He would quickly like her, seeing her as intelligent, brave, and has more common sense than most in Griffin Rock.

And she would see that he isn't so bad, he's smart, polite, can be sweet, if a bit awkward.

She would be curious and fascinated at him being Techno-Organic, but wouldn't question him about it, she would wait until he's comfortable to share details on his own.

Stormsight would greatly appreciate that and would actually be happy to tell her about his physiology.

When Stormsight first begins to fall for Frankie, he would be utterly confused at these feelings and why he's starting to see Frankie differently.

He would wonder why he's thinking about her more, why his spark seems to pulse faster when he sees her or why he enjoys seeing her smile and hearing her talk and laugh more.

Believing this to be a human thing, he would ask Chief Burns about this. And I imagine Charlie being pretty surprised.

This kid is so out of touch with his human side that he kinda needs to be told that he has a crush on someone before he realizes that he does.

Though I don't think anyone else would be surprised, since he's not that subtle or careful. I think even Frankie would know he likes her more than just a friend.

I imagine he would act like this whenever talking to Frankie or about her, basically accidently dropping hints that he likes her.

(Think Amity when she started getting a crush on Luz or Wall-E when he met EVE.)

Frankie would be cooler about it, amused at Stormsight's awkwardness, but nice about it, maybe even finding it cute.

I also see Boulder and Dani trying to play cupid and bring the two closer together, or at least convince Stormsight to actually talk to Frankie about this and make a move.

If Stormsight ever did decided to try to ask Frankie out or show his interest, he wouldn't ask for help, he would research romantic stuff and read romance novels to get ideas on romance.

Results are often strange and/or cliche, but Frankie wouldn't be upset, she would find it a bit endearing.

Frankie would have the Decepticon Prince wrapped around her finger, but don't worry, she knows not to abuse this power and would treat him respect, adoration, and kindness.

I'd like a fanfic based off of that headcanon. I actually saw a fic on DeviantArt that inspired me to ask you about Chase and his fear of thunder storms and I think Blades would understand since he's scared of heights.

The sky flashed outside the firehouse, and then there was a loud boom that Chase swore made the air itself shake. He flinched, his armor plating pinning tight against his protoform so fast and so harshly it made an audible sound. Here in the main garage of the firehouse, the sounds thunder and flashes of lighting seemed so much closer than they probably were. He knew he was being foolish. It was just a storm, and as long as he stayed inside it couldn’t hurt him.

The windows lit up with another strike of lighting, and the thunder boomed once more. Before Chase even realized what was happening, base processor functions took over and he was folding into his alt mode, peeling backwards and away from the open garage door, and skidding to a stop on the large elevator pad that would take him to the bunker. It started lowering, and as soon as there was enough space for him to not scrape his roof he was gunning his engine, flying off the pad and landing on the floor of the bunker to skid to a harsh stop. He transformed back to his root mode, quickly making the pad lift back up, and sealing the bunker from the upper floors of the firehouse.

There was silence for a beat, and then a much more distant crash of thunder sounded. Chase flinched, his plating clamping impossibly tighter. The sounds were much more faint down here, dampened by thick, heavy stone and earth. Even so, it was just loud enough to be heard. But…Chase supposed that this was better than being in the garage. That would be worse.

It would be even worse if he was with the others. They’d gone on a camping trip to the forests of the mainland, where they were apparently going to be so far from civilization that the Rescue Bots wouldn’t have to worry about being seen. The plan had been to camp out in a large cave on on top a cliff to watch the storm, since apparently this type of storm was some for of rare meteorological event. Graham had assured him it was mostly harmless and they’d be safe as long as they stayed out of the thick of it, and even if things went wrong there was a cabin owned by Doctor Greene nearby that everyone would fit into and be safe at.

Chase had very politely opted out of that trip. He had no desire fo be out in the middle of a storm, in the middle of nowhere. Just being at Griffin Rock in the middle of it was bad enough. He’d told Chief Burns he wished fo stay behind and review human law and order systems. A lie, of course. He was too tense to focus on anything of that sort. The others had all gone, and now he was alone here. He was starting to think it would have been better to ride this out with friends.

The police bot forced himself to move, turning and walking stiffly to the couch. He fell back onto it, turning on the TV and rising the volume as high as it would go in an effort to drown out the noise of the storm. When he could hear no thunder over the sound of the human entertainment system, he finally allowed himself to relax.

“Chase? You didn’t go on the trip?”

The unexpected voice made Chase shoot to his pedes, his previously relaxed frame tensing and his armor clamping tight once more. He turned to the speaker, and it took his frazzled processor a moment to recognize the slim frame of his teammate. His vocalizer clicked several times, spitting a blaat of static before he was able to make it work.

“Blades?”

“Yes?” Blades seemed confused. “Chase, are you alright? Are you hurt? Is that why you didn’t go with the others? I can treat you if you need medical attention.” The copter bot walked closer, his hands uncurling from where they’d been tucked against his canopy to flutter nervously in front of him.

Chase took another moment to force his processor to work, and he shook his helm slowly. “I am–I am unharmed.” he stated. “I remained behind to study human law practices.”

Blades stopped in front of him, helm tilting. His audial fins only had limited movement capability, but they still twitched very slightly with his visible confusion. “You were watching one of Dani’s weird human romance movies.” he pointed out.

He felt embarrassment rush through him, and he ducked his helm. He quickly picked up the remote, turning down the volume so they could speak without having to raise their voices. “Yes. I, ah–“ he struggled to find an excuse. He had to change the topic. “Why are you here?” he blurted out. “Did you not go with the others?”

The copter shook his helm, his hands tucking up again his canopy again, as he always seemed to do when he wasn’t using them or gesturing while he talked. “Dani wanted to fly in the storm. She said it was safe as long as we stayed out of the pre-determined lightning zones and that it would just be like a theme park ride but I didn’t really want to.” he said.

“Oh.” Chase blinked, and was about to open his mouth when there was a very, very loud crash of thunder, and then bunker itself shook around them.

His optics blew wide, the blue burning so bright they practically glowed white. A high, distressed shriek left his vocalizer before he was even aware of it and he was shoving himself back into the couch, making himself as small as possible and pulling his field in tight, armor clamped so closely to his frame none of the seams were visible or individual plates were even distinguishable. Blades stared at him in alarm, then in two quick strides he was there and crouching by the couch. His field expanded to wrap around the police bot, emitting soft, soothing feelings.

“Chase, it’s alright. You’re safe down here.” Blades assured. He cast a worried glance up, then tilted his helm. “That last one felt like something nearby might have been struck. I have to go check, but I’ll be right back, okay?” he said. He waited for a response, but after a minute where it seemed it wasn’t getting one he was forced to give up and go check.

Chase was alone, then. Air squealed past his vents in harsh wheezes, and he couldn’t make himself calm down. All he could focus on was the memory of getting struck, the feeling of the bolt hitting his chest, burning so hot it scorched and melted the metal of his chestplate into a twisted mess. He hadn’t allowed himself to show how it affected him then, but he’d been terrified. Lightning couldn’t kill a Cybertronian. Not a single strike, at any rate. But for those with thinner armor or smaller frames, a single strike could do permanent, crippling damage. He’d been extremely lucky, he knew.

After the wound on his chest had been healed, it had only taken three days or so for his systems to recover from the powerful electric attack and for the pain to stop. But the fear had remained. He’d realized that if he was ever struck again, he might not be so lucky, and he could be permanently, irreparably damaged. With the risks lightning posed to Cybertronians, especially to Cybertronians of his build…he would almost prefer if the only thing he had to fear from getting struck was death. At least then, he wouldn’t have the risk of his systems being permanently crippled.

He didn’t realize that his vocalizer had started clicking with his distress until he felt a hand on his shoulder and a EM field wrap tightly around him. For a moment, his panic grew, but then he recognized the field pressing around him and his engine hiccuped. His vision was blurred and staticky, and it took a moment for it to clear enough for him to see Blades. His friend was staring at him in open concern, his rotors all but vibrating at his back with his worry.

“Chase? You with me?”

“I–What–I’m sorry–“ he gasped, only for the copter to cut him off.

“No, none of that! It’s fine.” Blades scolded gently. “Come on, you need to vent. Your frame is overheating and your fans aren’t enough. Vent, deep and slow. Follow me.” he said, venting in the pattern he needed the police bot to follow.

Chase shuddered, his armor audibly rattling with it, and he followed Blades’s lead. After a moment, his frame stopped feeling so hot, and he was able to calm. There was no thunder, not that he could hear. All he could hear were the hums of his and his teammates systems and the noise of the TV. He reset his vocalizer, remembering why Blades had left.

“Was anything damaged?”

Blades shook his helm. “No. The lightning just struck pavement. There’s a scorch mark, but no damage.”

Chase nodded. “Good, good.” he whispered, sounding distant. “Blades, I–that is, I should–I mean–“ he cut himself off, forcing himself to try again. “I…I wish to apologize.”

Blades blinked, looking startled. He shifted from where he was crouched in front of Chase, sitting next to his friend on the couch instead. “Apologize? What for?”

“I am acting foolish. The lightning cannot hurt me. It cannot even reach me. Yet…” he trailed off, ashamed of his own fear.

Blades blinked. “You’re not foolish, Chase.” he said, tone gentling.

Chase looked at his teammate, his optics just a little too bright. “My fear is irrational, Blades! It helps no one and only causes inconvenience!”

Blades didn’t flinch under the force of his yelling. “So?” His audial fins flicked. “Fear is often irrational.”

“Perhaps.” Chase seemed bitter. “But my fear makes me a liability. What if a storm occurs while we are on a mission? It could keep me from doing what is needed of me.” he stared at his lap. “The others will think poorly of me, I am sure of it.”

“Chase.” Blades’s voice was firm. “You’re not the only one with an irrational fear.” At his back, his rotors fluttered pointedly. “The team doesn’t think any less of me for my fear, do they?”

Chase turned a startled look to his friend. “Of course not! That would be foolish! Your fear does not stop you from performing your duties! We have no reason to think less of you, and you are no less of a bot just because you are scared of heights!”

Blades smiled. “So, why wouldn’t that be true for you?”

Chase froze, blinking.

“I know how guilty fear can make you feel, Chase. Believe me, I understand. And one day, you may have to confront it head on for a mission, but if that day comes I know you won’t let us down. It’s alright to have fears, and it’s alright to avoid the things that scare you if you have that option. You just can’t let your fears define you or stop you from living your life.” he said softly.

Neither bot said anything for a long moment. The only sounds in the bunker were those of two Cybertronian systems running and and mundane human commercial from the TV. Then Chase broke it.

“You are…you are correct. Thank you, Blades.”

Blades beamed, nodding. His rotors twitched happily at his back, and he settled down more comfortably. “Good! Now, how about we find something to watch and drown out the storm?”

Chase let out a huff of laughter. “I would like that.”

The copter nodded, then he shifted again, moving until he was leaning against Chase’s side. He knew his teammate wasn’t as tactile as him, so he didn’t want to make him uncomfortable. “Is this okay? Physical comfort helps me when I get scared. Back on Cybertron, if I got really nervous, my brothers would usually hug me.” he said distractedly, flipping through the channels on the TV to find something to watch.

Chase blinked. “You have brothers?” he turned that statement over in his processor. “You have spark bonded siblings? Blades, what happened…?”

Blades froze, then sagged. “Don’t tell the others.” he whispered. At Chase’s nod, he continued. “I have brothers.” he confirmed. “Four of them. I’m gestalt. I don’t know where they are. The bond was active and I could hear them before we went into stasis, but after we got out…” he trailed off, resetting his vocalizer before he was able to continue. “The bond is muted now. I don’t know if it’s because of distance and time apart from them, or because they’re–“ his voice cut off. He forced himself to finish that sentence. “Because they’re dead.”

Chase stared at his smaller teammate for a long moment, then he wrapped his arms around him and tugged him close. “Perhaps, tonight, we can comfort each other.” he said.

Blades was startled, and then he laughed weakly and nodded. He shifted, rearranging himself until he was folded and tucked neatly against Chase’s frame, and then he relaxed. “I’d like that.” he grinned.

Chase found himself smiling as well, and his contentment grew when Blades finally picked one of the humans’ true crime shows to watch and dialed the volume all the way up. The remote was set down, and then both Rescue Bots were curling even further into each other, enjoying the physical comfort they could offer one another.

Outside, the storm raged on, but it went unnoticed to the two Cybertronians in the bunker below. Neither bot had stopped being afraid of their fears, but they both knew that didn’t matter. They had each other, and in that moment, that was all that really counted.
