As a survivor of the Bosnian Genocide, I am acutely attuned to the haunting echoes of that dark chapter in human history, a chapter that refuses to be closed. Today, as I witness the unfolding tragedy in Gaza, the spectre of genocide resurfaces with a poignant familiarity.
The Palestinian landscape, scarred by 75 years of Israeli military occupation, mirrors the hardships faced during the Bosnian War and Genocide - displacement, economic hardship, and restricted access to basic resources.
The ongoing bombing campaign in Gaza exacerbates an already dire humanitarian situation. This is more than a geopolitical conflict; this is a contemporary genocide.
In 111 days, more than 25,000 Palestinians in Gaza have been killed by Israel, including at least 10,000 children. More than 8,000 are missing, trapped under the rubble, and presumed dead. Another 63,000 are injured, and more than 90% of Gaza’s 2.3 million residents have been displaced.
Videos of Israeli leaders calling for the destruction of Gaza and the forcible displacement of Palestinians echo the sentiments expressed by those responsible for the Bosnian Genocide.
In the case of the Bosnian Genocide, while both the Bosnian Serbs and the Serbian political leadership knew they were committing genocide in their expansionist plans to create a “Greater Serbia,” publicly they attempted to conceal their crimes to avoid accountability.
Their genocidal intent was not as open or as loud as some of the sentiments expressed by Israeli political leadership.
Nevertheless, comparing the Bosnian Genocide with the current situation in Gaza necessitates a nuanced examination. While historical contexts differ, the core elements of mass displacement, targeted violence against civilians, and the overarching goal of extermination of a specific group are the same.
To comprehend the concept of genocide, it is crucial to understand its legal definition and sociological framework. Coined by Raphael Lemkin after the Holocaust, genocide encapsulates acts committed with the intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnic, racial, or religious group.
Genocide goes beyond the mere act of killing; it encompasses a deliberate and systematic attempt to annihilate a specific group based on its identity.
Genocide is a process. In Bosnia, it did not simply occur one day in July of 1995, nor did it suddenly rear its head in October of 2023 in Gaza. It is a process that starts with dehumanisation, discrimination, and persecution.

The Noldor needed to return to Middle Earth.
This is a long one, so I put it under a Read More thing.
I was looking into the Doom of the Noldor, and why the Valar weren't interested in going after Morgoth after he murdered a guy, and I came across the rather reasonable argument that the Valar could only defeat Morgoth after he put a great deal of his influence into Arda, kind of like a giant One Ring, which would weaken him. Which is all fine and good, I guess.
(Not sure why they couldn't just do what they did in the War of the Powers and evacuate everyone out of Beleriand before sending Tulkas in, as that would be far more responsible than what they actually ended up doing, but I digress.)
So that's it then. The Valar plan to just sit around Valinor, chilling, while Morgoth essentially runs around Beleriand with a can of gasoline and a match. And, based off what I've read, it sounds like they were really just kind of doing nothing until Eärendil and Elwing showed up to buy protection. Or it does take three years to sail from southwest Beleriand to the Bay of Eldamar. (It took Eärendil eight total, and four of them were after Elwing showed up, and it is a long journey; there's a reason the Noldor went as far north as they could in Aman before attempting to sail.)
Here's a map for reference. Credit to Karen Wynn Fonstadt. The Helcaraxë is so tiny!
Anyway, I'm going to give those who stayed in Valinor the benefit of the doubt and assume they spent 5 and a half centuries preparing for war.
(Even though the Noldor were plenty ready for it when they left, considering they annihilated Morgoth's army. Yeah, Fëanor died, but who could expect fire demons of nightmares to show up randomly?)
Sorry. I keep getting into tangents. The Valinorians prepare, get a signal from ... something, and sail across Belaegar to destroy Morgoth and save the Men, Elves, and Dwarves. Happy ever after, and the Flight of the Noldor was completely useless and pointless.
Except it wasn't.
Sure, most of that plan would've still worked as intended, except for the "save Men, Elves, and Dwarves" part. Beleriand would have been an utter wasteland by the time they got there without the Noldor's intervention. Morgoth might have conquered even more. Imagine if he got to Cuiviénen, the far south of Harad, even Hildórien.
"That's impossible, dfwbwfbbwfbwf. Even Morgoth couldn't have mustered up the strength to do that."
But is it impossible? Who would have been there to stop him?
Círdan's Falathrim were nearly exterminated, saved only due to Fëanor's intervention. Denethor died because Fëanor was too late. (By how much, it's unclear, but it happened the same Valerian Year, so maybe a few Sun Years. If Olwë had helped, and Uinen not slowed the Noldor, and Ulmo provided a way across, perhaps Denethor would have lived. But I suppose we'll never know.) Melian guarded Doriath with her Girdle, but Þingollo never sent anyone out to engage with Morgoth; he couldn't, because Doriath didn't stand a snowball's chance in Mordor. What Sindar and Nandor were trapped outside the Girdle were certainly no match for Morgoth's forces. I wouldn't be surprised if Morgoth conquered the entire continent (again, save Doriath, but Doriath is about as concerning to him as a mosquito bite) before Iþil rose for the first time. After all, it took him about 19-20 years to take over half the land, and he had about 27 to take the other half.
I don't imagine Morgoth would go after the Khazad, and I don't see the Khazad going after Morgoth. They'd close their doors to all, and Morgoth wouldn't have to worry about them.
Morgoth would still venture east and corrupt the newly awoken Men, and I think some would repent and travel west to become the Edain, but they would either remain in Middle Earth, or be destroyed and/or corrupted upon reaching Beleriand. There would be no Finrod to greet them, no Dorthonion or Brethil or Dor-Lómin for them to settle and thrive in. There would be no Beren, Dior, Elwing. There would be no Hador, Galdor, Huor, Tuor, Eärendil. No Elrond or Elros.
Morgoth would continue south and east. The Nandor and Avari would likely fall - I think the Silvans would be destroyed or subjugated first, as they probably have a smaller population. And with each civilization Morgoth conquers, he has more potential orcs.
I do think Morgoth would still develop his dragons. He's a reptile dad imo.
By the time the Valinorians arrive in this timeline, there's nothing TO save. Even if they manage to defeat Morgoth, it would take longer. More lives lost. More land sunk.
Do I think the Noldor were the only reason this didn't happen? No, but they were a very big one. Their first attack in the Dagor-nuin-Giliath decimated Morgoth's army, something that took him four and a half centuries to build up enough to fight with again. They guarded Beleriand against the northern menace. They made the continent a safe place for Elf, Man, and Dwarf to thrive, something the "King of Beleriand" couldn't accomplish, and the "King of Elves" Ingwë and "King of Arda" Manwë refused to try.
Do I think the original argument of the Valar waging a war of attrition against Morgoth makes sense? Yes. Do I think their plan would have worked? Depends how you define "worked" - they would have defeated Morgoth, but the cost would be too great. This is why Fëanáro was born: to save Beleriand. And even though he was only on the continent for a short time, he did just that. The Valar should have helped him, but they were, at best, foolish, at worst cowards.
Remember to thank a Fëanárion for your existence today.
... No one is going to read this, and if you did, you're insane. But I guess I'm insane for writing it. Have a cookie and milk. 🍪🥛

Headcanons for Vox and Alastor both falling in love with an extremely powerful Overlord known as the Pink Death, she is called that because she's thought of as an incurable plague that consumes and annihilates everything she comes into contact with and she's a Pink Bunny demon and she's so powerful all the other Overlords, even Zestial are terrified of her, since when she arrived in Hell, she killed every Overlord that existed in that time and took their powers?
Incredibly Powerful Reader
Since this is a yandere blog, this will be done with that in perspective.
I also want to do this with the mindset that it is impossible to technically permanently kill other demons without angelic weapons. It is true that Alastor has made other demon overlords “disappear,” but I feel like it’s implied that he has somehow destroyed them in a way that is much worse than death, perhaps in a horrific existence in between realities? I don’t know. Anyway, I feel like the killing people with diseases temporarily and being a major threat is still an interesting view though. The complete toll you could have on demon and sinner society by wiping them out in waves whenever you felt like it would give you a lot of power in hell.
Anyway, when it comes to the guys, I see them actually sharing quite a few things at first.
Both of them would hope that their experience and ability to play manipulation games would allow for them to outsmart you, even if you are significantly more powerful than they are. Whether they actually do or not depends on you and your personality, but I could see them getting the upper hand if you’re not careful, especially Alastor.
Both of them also would hope to win you into a contract that allows them to have you under the thumb, but they would present it as giving you a power boost to help you clinch full power over hell. The details of this contract and their way of going about it will differ, but ultimately that is the goal each of them would have.
Vox
Media thrives on disaster. You’ve created a gold mine of content for this man. His interest in you would simply start out as using your story to promote his own company, and it would later turn into an obsession. Considering how the Vees are able to stay safe during extermination day through extreme isolation, I don’t think he would be too worried about the infection for similar reasons, simply being annoyed that it’s hurting the company as it’s messing with staff and therefore production.
If you decide to reject him, he can paint your powers to his advantage, threatening to use the media to paint you as a monster that hell needs to rally against at any cost. On the other hand, he could offer you a sweet deal if you want to get along nicely with him. He could make sure that everyone knows you’re the most powerful overlord in hell and that you should be respected and admired as well as feared. This is when the contract comes in, where he gets to portray you how you’d like as well as provide comfy living arrangements as long as you are willing to work alongside his company and only his company. He’ll make sure you’re on a higher position in the company than the underlings, considering how much power you have. Oh, and he’ll add a little clause that you’re not to turn your nasty tricks on him either.
Alastor
Alastor is more cautious than Vox is. While I see Vox as going the direct approach with you and a clear plan of aggression, Alastor would take his time, watching you from the shadows. He would want to get a clear idea of your personality and all its strengths and weaknesses before approaching you. Last thing he would want to do is simply irritate you.
I feel like his approach to you would be somewhat similar to how I think he is approaching Charlie. You are young and so perfectly easy to influence. Your potential is overflowing, surely you don’t want to waste it? If are just willing to submit to his ideals, he could make you the greatest overlord of all time, as well as gain total control of hell. The contract would be along similar lines. He would not rush the business like Vox would. He doesn’t want you to think he simply wants to use your powers after all. You have to feel like you’re giving in willingly because it benefits the both of you.
He would be subtle in his affection. He would make it seem like a business contract, but as you got entangled deeper and deeper in a mess you would come to see that he has a much more possessive and controlling relationship with you than you first thought. The details of the contract that at first seemed to exist to gain you some extra experience and security now seem like chains keeping you attached to a master has no intention of ever letting you become independent in your own right.

Australia NEEDS to be paying attention to this. In essence the Liberal party is going to use the tears of a massive gold mining company not being able to get their way with destroying a significant Aboriginal area to stir up racist and classist aligned votes under a new Liberal Party banner somehow claiming that the party is speaking for the working class.
ICYMI McPhillamy's Gold Mine has gone through the planning process and received development approval for their site near Blayney, NSW, on Wiradjuri land. The mine would be facilitated by the construction of a tailings dam on the Belubula River around which are identified Aboriginal archaeology. Because the dam would have required the destruction of these objects, the planning process included consultation with Registered Aboriginal Parties (RAPs), including the Orange Local Aboriginal Land Council (Orange LALC), and Wiradyuri Traditional Owners Central West Aboriginal Corporation (WTOCWAC).
Despite having planning approval, Tanya Plibersek, Labor's Environmental Minister, made a rare approval of an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Protection Act Section 10 application which enables the protection of an area provided that the minister can be satisfied that the land is a significant Aboriginal area and is under threat of injury or desecration. This Act is separate to the planning process and is available to Aboriginal people to use where they consider that the planning system has failed to protect cultural sites.
This is exactly what the WTOCWAC did. During the assessment process, the WTOCWAC gave advice to the Orange LALC who were the identified Aboriginal persons to comment on the project in Blayney (because Blayney does not have a LALC). It originally did not support the proposal, the same as the WTOCWAC, however, the Orange LALC changed its final position to neutral. Despite the WTOCWAC being a registered RAP that had written it did not support the proposal, the planning system favours LALCs over traditional custodians who are not part of LALCs and therefore the state government was able to ignore the WTOCWAC's opposition and approve the development anyway.
The area where the tailings dam would be constructed is part of a significant Wiradyuri cultural story that is, at this time, only known to cultural knowledge holders, the Orange LALC and Tanya Plibersek. The cultural significance was clearly enough to 'satisfy' Plibersek that the identified area should be protected under Section 10.
The day that the section 10 application approval was announced was just two days after the 200th anniversary of the Bathurst Wars on August 14 1824, the day on which Governor Brisbane issued a proclamation of martial law which gave rise to a war against Wiradjuri people and colonisers. The war was indiscriminately a war of extermination, with Wiradjuri people fighting back but ultimately forcing to surrender after their population was significantly annihilated and the survivors having dispersed. 200 years later, the elders in the WTOCWAC are some of the many Wiradyuri survivors of the Bathurst Wars. It was during a week long of commemorating and conserving culture that the immensely great news of the Section 10 approval came through.
However, since the announcement, the WTOCWAC group have faced significant backlash from the mining sector and communities at large. In addition, the media has focused on the tears of the McPhillamy gold mine company not being able to get it exactly their way even though their shares have increased by about 16%.
Here are multiple articles weighted toward the mining sector's tears.
I have only seen one (1) mainstream article that actually gives an indigenous voice to the backlash they've been getting for daring to use the coloniser's laws to protect their cultural heritage.
Make a donation to the WTOWAC here. (They are a registered charity and your donation is tax deductible)
Wait, wasn't this post meant to be about the Liberal Party?
Yeah, so remember when The Voice referendum was going up and Peter Dutton said that he would give The Voice another go if it failed, and then when it DID fail, he said he would never give it a shot again? Did you also read the first linked article and read this horrific quote:
“This is not the Australian Labor party of the worker,” Dutton told the Minerals Council’s annual conference this week. “Its members are committed to waging environmental and social crusades, especially against certain industries.” .... The Coalition has carefully analysed the different reasons people had for voting no in last year’s defeated referendum on enshrining an Indigenous voice to parliament in the constitution, and especially those self-identified Labor voters who call themselves working people. Dutton wants to turn that opposition to the voice into disillusionment with the government, and ultimately, votes for the Coalition at the federal election. He reckons the McPhillamys decision helps him do it.
The interests of the mining sector, racism and anti-aboriginal rhetoric goes hand in hand with Peter Dutton's platform. Not only will we never see another attempt at The Voice under a federal Liberal Party, we COULD see an abolition of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Protection Act, the mechanism that has protected the waters of the Belubula River from being destroyed by the McPhillamy gold mine. The mining sector has been so shaken up by this 'sudden' and 'unprecedented' decision, and with them lining Dutton's pockets it's not unreasonable to predict that abolishing the act could be one of the first things Dutton does if elected.
This would be absolutely devastating for current and any future Aboriginal sites that need to be protected where the planning system has failed to protect them. And this is going to continue to be the case until the planning system can better identify and protect intangible cultural heritage.
We need to stand up for Aboriginal rights, we need to stand up for the protection of Aboriginal cultural heritage, we need to ensure there are pathways for the protection of culture and we need to believe traditional custodians when they walk their truth.

Gaza is annihilated, world
Displaced people moved more than 10 times from their areas of residence after it was destroyed by the Israeli war machine. They were forced to go more than once, following statements and directives of the Israeli occupation army and its leaflets, to the Al-Mawasi area, considering it to be the safest place. These displaced people set up their tents and others set up rags and blankets in order to search. Searching for safety for their children and others, they made a shelter out of tin and worn out pieces of cloth, only to find themselves an easy target for heavy missiles that could demolish towers and homes built of reinforced concrete.
The tents of the displaced, regardless of the narrative of the occupation army and its goals, cannot withstand those missiles, nor can they withstand the winds.
Save Gaza 🔻🙏
How long will we remain silent, world? till when Now the Zionist occupation committed a massacre and left behind more than a hundred martyrs The targeting took place in safe areas In the camps and tents of the displaced, how long will you remain silent, O world? We are being exterminated here every day How difficult is life for how long? partner Support the cause, perhaps you will save us from this death
Gaza is annihilated, world
What are you waiting for, support me and leave a like, maybe I will be the martyr next time 💔💔

Y'all Ready for my Hazbin Hotel Hot Take?
I have like 3 different hot takes for the Hazbin/Helluva series, but I haven't seen anyone mention this one, yet. You ready?
Hazbin Hotel is a poorly written, but still enjoyable series (so far).
I liked watching the show, don't get me wrong. That's why I said the show is still enjoyable. Just because I think something is poorly written doesn't mean I dislike it. In fact, far from it! I've watched a lot of movies I've thought (or even the majority of the people who watched it thought) was really badly written, but still absolutely LOVED it! So, even if something is not written well, it doesn't mean you should suddenly stop enjoying it altogether. So, I'll go into the reasons why I think it wasn't necessarily written well but still enjoyable to explain what I mean. It starts out with the criticism, then ends with me explaining why I still enjoy it and a small concept.
TW: Abuse, Mental Health, Criticism of Hazbin Hotel (I know very well some of you can go crazy about it), Talking about Valentino
I mainly just think, outside of the rushed pacing, the first season had a lot of serious topics that weren't treated with the proper care needed. Such as Angel's abuse at the hands of Valentino or the Exterminations at the hands of the angels. The story tells us "this is bad", but a lot of audiences will hear that and simply not process HOW BAD it really is supposed to be, a bit like being desensitized without actually being desensitized to the topic. This is why I think the term "show don't tell" is often used when describing this show's flaws. A lot of people don't actually feel the weight of what's happening if just told. As a writer, I can understand how difficult it is to get that balance of showing enough to convey the full impact, but not showing too much as to make the story uncomfortable to read, and I'd imagine it's a lot more complicated in animation where you are actually showing what is happening. It's just that the audience feels it better when showed. While I'm not saying things like Val's abuse towards Angel or a massive group of demons getting annihilated should be shown, there are ways to show things to convey the message that these events are horrible things.
An example I like to use is the original Mulan, where the scene starts as a musical then everything goes quiet when they see the destroyed village. You see the absolute tragedy that happened, know what it implies, and nobody has to say "wow this is bad". We see it on our character's faces, hear it in the silence, and the physical darkening of the area compared to the song just before makes it hit harder. While I understand that Hazbin is a musical, I feel like it doesn't understand that there's a place and a time for a song to say and not show, as well as a place and a time for it to ENHANCE the show don't tell.
I feel this is especially important to know how to balance that with heavy topics like abuse, war, death, etc. because of the aforementioned fact that people don't understand how bad the topic is if they're just told. They feel a detachment towards the subject unless they are one of the people who have been affected by it, and if it's done wrong it can come off as offensive or even mislead people on those topics. In order to get those who don't have those experiences you need to show it in a way that isn't too intense but isn't glossing over it. It's just that Hazbin doesn't do that. While I'm glad that they try, in my opinion, it just doesn't hit it correctly, especially with Angel Dust's abuse.
However, I do love a lot of things about the show. A few of the jokes got me to laugh (this isn't meant to be a backhanded compliment, btw, it's generally hard to get me to laugh even if I find something funny so it's actually a compliment). The art is very pretty, even if I think there's too much red due to my shade blindness. Many of the characters are fun, and even the ones I despise are at least tolerable. Especially Adam! He's an asshole, but he's a fun asshole, in my honest opinion. A character you love to hate. The only real character I kind of think isn't written that well (at least for the role that he plays and the writing surrounding him) is, ironically, Valentino. Aka probably the most hated character of the series so far.
Considering Val's actions being EXTREMELY deplorable, I don't understand why there's these times where they try to make him funny or seem more lighthearted. I did enjoy that time when Niffty tore off his fluff and ran off because it served as a refresher after the intense scene of Angel confronting him, but the other times are odd to me. He seems like a threat only when the writers want him to be a threat, when really, he should be a constant threat considering one of our main characters is constantly in danger of his abuse.
He wouldn't even need much of a personality change, either. His over reactionary personality and slightly erratic behavior can be TERRIFYING if the show treated it that way. Instead, while I was watching it seemed like it was treated as more of a joke. While being over reactive isn't something that makes you a bad person, being a bad person that is over reactive can be terrifying. As someone who has met a person like that, it feels like walking on eggshells and not knowing what you should say, what you should do to calm them down, and even if you should calm them or leave them be to calm on their own. Imagine if they had that scene where Vox checks on Val, but instead of Vox being extremely calm and composed, he's visibly trying to stay calm but is internally worried. It'd show that, while the other two Vees are condoning his actions and letting them stay, even they aren't sure if they're safe from his violent temper. It'd help imply just how bad his abusive actions are towards his workers and Angel if even his two colleagues - his EQUALS - don't feel completely safe.
Anyways, that was my rant/hot take. The show doesn't have to be exactly how I want it for me to like it. Hell, I LOVE it for what it's trying to do. I just have my own critiques on how some things are handled, and the hope that it'll keep striving to attempt to handle those topics better.
#hazbin hotel#hazbin hotel critical#hazbin hotel criticism#hazbin hotel critique#i'm a writer#And just had my own sort of hot take that involved critiquing the show#hot take#hazbin hotel valentino#valentino

There is no supporting Palestinians while calling for peace or condemning Hamas or refusing to address that Israel is a colonial Jewish supremacist ethnostate that sees everyone who opposes it - from anti-occupation Jews to Palestinians to diaspora against genocide - as enemies of the state and enemies of the extremist Judaism that the Israeli government and its backers proposition as not only just, but propagandize as being necessary for the survival of Judaism.
Israel is enacting a genocide. Peaceful resistance does not work. Has never worked. Cannot work. It's been 70 years and the genocide has only continued to hasten and escalate.
People being exterminated by a genocidal regime and ethnonationalist religious supremacist ideology cannot be treated or named as terrorists for breaking out of their prison and fighting back.
The violence of the Warsaw Ghetto rebellion was not terrorist violence.
Hamas' actions on Saturday were the actions of people resisting annihilation in the only manner they can. These are not terrorists and labeling them as such is to concede ground to Zionist propaganda that treats this as two nations at war, as oppose to a single state government engaging in an extermination operation against the people native to the region, with the backing of an international community set on antagonizing and killing the Arab populations with cold deliberate intent.
There is no shortage of reading material for those wishing to learn more but to be honest, you don't need to learn more. You can read the propaganda and learn nothing else and still use your own principles and common sense to recognize that something is gravely wrong about framing this as a war when one side can shut off all access to food, water, and electricity to the other side while destroying every bridge and escape route for anyone seeking to flee the bombings.
There is only one side using white phosphorous. This is the closest we've come to witnessing a second Holocaust since the Holocaust - it is ethnic cleansing using chemical weapons and the world is cheering it on. If you are afraid of being labeled antisemitic for calling this what it is you would do well to look yourself in the mirror and ask why your anxiety over being judged by bad faith genocide apologists is more important to you than speaking out against the extermination of two million people at the hands of global nuclear powers.

Xavier's dream is doomed, but there is no alternative.
The meta demands ever more elaborate allegories for every terrible thing humans have done to one another, but hard men making hard choices also inevitably make everything worse too.
This is part 1 of a 5 part series about pessimism in the world of X-Men.
X-Men ‘97 and The Animated Series more broadly have spent quite a bit of time establishing a few core conceits:
Xavier’s lofty rhetoric can win small, fleeting victories that do damage control in the near term such as repeatedly persuading government officials to give the X-Men time to handle a situation in a more surgical way.
Yet, significant gains like establishing an enclave for Mutants by Mutants on Genosha are always subject to rollback, usually in the form of a violent pogrom.
Sapiens violence sparks Mutatis retaliation, which more often than not confirms Sapiens fears about the dangers posed by Mutants.
Thus, Xavier is always made to look like a fanatic willing to sell Mutant lives cheap to de-escalate fearful Sapiens only for the concessions he wins to be meager and fleeting. There is always another crisis that requires the blood of his students to buy off a more extreme and indiscriminate reaction by human forces.
Yet at the same time, acts of separatism and retaliation by Magneto et al. pour jet fuel on the cycle of preemptive violence that leads to retaliatory violence that leads to more retaliatory violence.
This creates a doom loop where progress exists only to be rolled back and, if left uninterrupted, leads to functional mutual annihilation: Bastion attempts to kill or enslave all mutants, Magneto destroys the capacity for terrestrial civilization to exist beyond the steam engine. Both Magneto and Humanity have also had nuclear arsenals pointed at one another.
Every future we see appears to be dystopian. The X-Men will not live to see a better world and their best efforts largely ensure Mutants don’t go extinct entirely. No matter what the X-Men do, the choice seems to be between extermination or enslavement by Humans or Sentinels, or conquest by Apocalypse.
Noteworthy though is that in both Bishop and Cable’s futures, it is the X-Men who are remembered and celebrated, not Magneto’s Brotherhood. Martyrdom is a poor reward for dogged virtuousness in the face of hostility from both hateful Humans and justifiably angry Mutants, but it seems to be the only way the worst futures are avoided.
My growing concern now that X-Men is having a moment in the spotlight of fandom discourse is that the setting is accidentally or intentionally selling doomer nihilism cosplaying as realism or critical theory.
Make no mistake, I think X-Men ‘97 is the smartest Marvel offering since Captain America: Civil War brought us the debates over the Sokovia Accords. However, people really do need to be mindful of the hard wired setting conceits that ensure that the X-Men’s world is one in which there is an unhappy median that wobbles back and forth from slightly better to a lot worse and this itself is not (I hope) the actual message of the setting.
Part 2 will discuss the role of allegory in X-Men and fiction more broadly as it pertains to civil rights struggles and identity based conflict.

⚠️ READ: Please do not repost/reupload any of my friend's art here or to any other platform, or Arki, Ryder and Ivarr will hunt u down ;P
Pics done by the amazing @dreamskug. 🤍 🤍 🤍 Arki belongs to @nervouswizardcycle. ❤️ Ryder belongs to me. 🖤

Give me your faith, something I can believe in And you'll be my family, my brother, my friend Tell me a truth that I find not deceiving Teach me a lesson that I understand Build me a shelter, a place I can dwell in Show me a future that I can enjoy Give me a reason and I'll be your fellow Show me the target I have to destroy Exterminate annihilate destroy Show me my leader and I'll pledge obedience Whisper the name of the enemy mine Blessed be my fate and my tools of expedience I'm going to fulfill what's my mission divine Exterminate annihilate destroy
song link behind the cut (I recommend it)
@dreamskug thank u so so so so so so much for doing those pics! (I owe u aaahh). I expected it would be amazing but THIS up there is eVERYTHING. It's like a lil story. Like the boys get their info at the Afterlife, ready to go and fuck up some gonks, annihilate, exterminate and destroy – just to let everything sink in afterwards with a cigarette, a swig of whiskey enjoying the view of Arki's old home district.
and yes another gift for @nervouswizardcycle thanks to you Dream! <3

some thought I want to add bc I'm a bit emotional about them too:
Arki and Ryder share a special bond. One that is a bit hard to explain without going into detail. But so much is said: Ry and Arki share a lot together, yet they are different. Only they are able to relate to each other's anger and pain they both feel inside. Once they talked the friendship grows so tight that Ryder will let Arki into 'his family' (the team), let him be 'his friend' and sees him like 'his brother'. Arki had a hard time to become friends with Ry. The opening up 'gave him reason' enough, to be 'his fellow' and make everything right, get rid of both their pain and to fulfill Ryder's most wanted wish: to be free and have his own will again. Ofc Ryder will do the very same for Arki. @nervouswizardcycle and I will do our best to get it into written form and shown in vp in future! So stay tuned.

Rot
Lute x implied to be female reader
Warnings: this got out of hand I don't know what I wrote, death.
Song used!
We all pretend to be the heroes on the good side
Each year hundreds of exorcists fly down and exterminate sinners, keeping hells population low and permanently putting an end to the wretched people who earned their spots there.
Some things are black, and you know
You were one of these exorcists, horned mask on your head, an angelic scythe in hand.
You were proud of what you did.
Some things are white, it’s just so
You were merciless on the battlefield, no matter how much they begged or screamed you slit their throats with ease, joyfully showing off to your fellow exorcists and joyously celebrating with them once back in the safe haven that was heaven.
You never stopped to smell the roses, oh no.
One in particular you carved the attention of, Lieutenant Lute.
But you’re the good guy, uhuh?
The way she commanded attention, the way she spoke with such confidence enticed you, and so everything you did was to gather her attention and her affections.
And he’s just some other scum?
And you nearly obtained it, you had it in your grasp, with your wings curled around her, her hand holding yours.
What a sad hill you’ve left yourself to die on.
But clearly she didn't hold onto those simple affections deeply as you did since she left you to rot in hell.
All because you witnessed what she did to Vaggie, someone you considered a sister, her eye was gouged and her wings were taken from her.
You were lucky enough to just be thrown into a crumpling wall and crushed beneath the rumble that you eventually dug yourself out of, she didn't even look at you when she did so.
So many shades of gray
Surrounded by the filth and scum, with sucky sinners who were spending their afterlives in agony as punishment for their sins.
Oh, how can you say you’re all grown yet still not know?
With your mask destroyed and your halo cracked, you peaked out from beneath the rubble, watching as your fellow exorcists, the people you called family flew away back to heaven leaving you behind.
Did they even know what their commander did to Vaggie and you?
Good easily fades away
You were left to the mercy of the very sinners you swore you'd annihilate.
Naive young beau, I will swallow you whole.
You did what you needed to survive, you were already left in hell, keeping virtues was the last thing you needed to keep.
You stole clothes, food, money anything you needed to stay alive.
Because I'm a villain
You had to learn many things, like how to properly defend yourself, because the way you and your fellow exorcists fought left you open and easy to take down, or whatever the hell a overlord was, you'd think they would've at least debriefed you on this!
I’ll go for the throat and slit
You learned that not everyone there was as heartless and wicked you thought,
That girl that ran a hellish library near your shitty apartment wasn't completely evil because she did what she had to do to provide for her younger sisters, your neighbor wasn't wicked because she killed her abusive fiancé, that boy that tinkered away across the street in a clock shop wasn't evil because he struggled and made a horrible, horrible decision to end that struggle.
That library girl made you new clothing to wear when the ones you had begun to visibility fall apart, asking for nothing in return.
Your neighbor looked out for you, bringing you over a plate of dinner saying she made too much, sometimes fretting over you like a mother would to a daughter.
That tinkering boy across the street talked to you in the middle of the night when you were walking around aimlessly wondering where everything went wrong, cheering you up.
Didn’t notice, What a wicked little devil I could be,
They were not wicked, they shouldn't have ended up down there,
You knew that there were folks who DID, deserve to be down there, like that purple bastard that you noticed directed almost every porn film down here,
People talked about his track record,
Oh how you would LOVE to sink your scythe into him.
Or that creepy who catcalled your friend, and who DID get your scythe embedded into his skull.
but babe, You're a villain
Eventually you reunited with Vaggie, agreeing that it would be best to keep your pasts hidden from those you cherished.
You’ll reach for the knife and twist
Eventually you met her girlfriend, the princess of hell,
How did she manage to fall in love with and date her? You didn't really know but you were proud of your found-family sister for finding someone that made her happy in this wretched place.
Hello new friend, the dark thing that you want to hide from me.
Eventually Charlie, Vaggie's girlfriend and effectively your future sister in-law, shared her dreams about wanting to redeem sinners, and Vaggie supported her in it.
Good luck.
And being Vaggie's sister got roped into it, you didn't move into the hotel as you wanted to look out for the folks you lived near, but you spent a good bit of your time there, helping out where you could.
You were dragged up to heaven along with Charlie and Vaggie, one moment you were trailing behind an ecstatic Charlie and an anxious Vaggie.
I'm killing someone maybe
And now you were corned against a wall right outside the room you were staying in, by someone you loved once, golden eyes staring harshly into yours.
You're killing someone maybe,
You once thrived in the affection those eyes looked at you with but now you wished you could pluck them from their sockets like she had done to Vaggie.
I'm killing you maybe
If it was you years prior you would've rather perished then have the desire to harm Lute, oh how times change!
You're killing me maybe
You grinned up at her, once upon a time you would've melted into a puddle at her cornering you but now it just filled you with disgust.
We all pretend to be the heroes on the good side
"Why the fuck are you here?"
"Oh? is that anyway to greet an old friend, Lulu?" You asked tilting your head.
"Don't call me that."
But what if we're the villains, on the other
Despite your rather playful tone the disdain in your eyes made her freeze, you had once looked at her with adoration.
Am I good, Am I bad, ay
With her frozen you shoved her away and scrambled into the room you were staying in.
Are you good?
The next time you saw Lute was during the whole 'you didn't know' where not only Vaggie but you were exposed as former Exorcists and cast back down.
Are you bad? ay
Lute wasn't expecting to see you again, she knew that you wouldn't die easily mostly because you still had your scythe, not to mention you were quite resourceful, after all she did have affections for you many years ago.
The one that I would take a bullet for is
Maybe if you weren't there when she took away Vaggie's wing privileges you would've been something more.
treated like a dirty dog somewhere else, say
Maybe a pair of sliver rings would've adorned your and her ring fingers.
Are we good
She'd be lying if the look of hatred in your eyes when you looked at her squeezed at her heart, like needles pricking at her.
Are we bad, ay
But she did what she had to do, and if 'protecting' heaven meant leaving you behind to rot then that is what she must do.
What is good, what is bad, ay
She didn't become lieutenant by being soft.
While you would've set heaven, earth and hell ablaze if she did so much as ask, she let left you for dead.
The one that I would choose a bullet for is
Adam changed when the next extermination was, the first place that he was going to target was Charlie's hotel.
Treated like a prince, throne in his father’s house, say
You couldn't believe you once followed that dickhead.
So many shades of gray
No one in that hotel was going down without a fight, not Charlie, not Vaggie, not Alastor, not husk, not Angel dust, not Sir Pentious, not Niffty, and Certainly not you.
Oh how can you say that you know, but not follow?
On the day of extermination you had conflicting feelings, on one hand you were mercilessly taking down exorcists, some of which were people you used to be friends with, you knew their hopes and dreams, their hobbies and interests, and you were here slicing them down with your axe.
And on other hand you were defending the hotel.
Good easily fades away
You welded your scythe like a grim reaper, an angel of death, it didn't help that you were dressed in black, if you didn't have wings you would've opted to wear a cloak.
Naive young beau, I will swallow you whole
Eventually you ended up a little further away from the fight and stumbled upon a armless Lute flying through.
Because 1, 2, I'm a villain
Vaggie may have let her live for whatever reason.
Take a stab at you in the dark
You however didn't hold the same sentiments of having Lute live with regret or anger or whatever she felt.
Didn’t notice
You flew and tackled her in the air.
What a wicked little devil I could be, but dear
You came at her as a blur of black, gold and a hint of sliver from your scythe.
You're a villain
The two of you spun around plumbing into the ground.
Take a knife to me in the heart
Golden blood splattered from Lute's injury.
Hello new friend, the wicked thing you hate to see in me.
A loud crack came from Lute's wing, followed by her screams.
Drink up.
You scrambled off of her as she struggled to get up.
All villains, make you beg for your every breath
You watched her with a grin, you grabbed your scythe and raised it high.
What a group of, Wicked wretched little beasts we are, baby.
You took a breath.
What fun.
Her spear entered your stomach.
We're all villains
She was quick, despite losing an arm and having a broken wing, Lute still had the resilience to pick up a spear and lunge it into you.
Pluck the air right out from your chest.
She pulled it out, and you using whatever adrenaline that was still in your body swung down your scythe.
Hello new friends, and welcome to the devil's house party.
Slicing her torso.
I'm killing someone maybe
She fell and you soon collapsed beside her.
You're killing someone maybe
Golden blood pooled around the two of you pooling into each other, who's blood was who's, no one could tell.
I'm killing you maybe, You're killing me maybe
One would wonder where the two of your souls would end up, would they appear again in hell? With a more devilish appearance, after all murder is a sin is it not? or would they go somewhere else?
We all pretend to be the heroes
On opposite sides, the surviving exorcists deemed you a horrid villain who betrayed them along with Vaggie, on the other side hell considered them ravenous creatures who come down and slaughter sinners for fun.
On the good side
The exorcists have a purpose, they permanently rid of unredeemable scum, but along with that they got rid of those who deserved a second chance and would've ended up in heaven if they were given that chance.
But what if we're the villains, on the other
But that's neither here nor there, you glanced at Lute, how ironic that the two of you killed each other?
We all pretend to be the heroes on the good side
Maybe in another world the two of you could pick up where you left off from before she left you to die in hell.
It was a foolish thought but it was funny to think of as you felt death creep in, it was comforting and confusing in a way.
You yawned, you oddly enough you weren't scared of what could come next, it just felt like you were going to sleep for the night, a sleep you wouldn't be waking up from anytime soon.
But what if we're the villains on the other
"Goodnight Lulu, see you on the other side." You mumbled closing your eyes for the last time.
"Fuck you,"
We all pretend to be the heroes on the good side
"I'll see you on the other side."
Good evening folks! I'm here with this, it was supposed to be a lot more, romance-y at the beginning but I just didn't do that? I don't know what that ending was either ALSO I LOVE THE NICKNAME LULU FOR LUTE, anyways, I hope you enjoyed! As always thank you for tuning on in!

The Palestinians’ forbears formed Hitler’s legion in the Middle East
It has long been a theme of this blog that the Nazi-inspired genocidal motive behind the Farhud massacre of Iraqi Jews in 1941 still underpins the Palestinian cause today. On the day after Israel marked Yom Hashoah, the insightful columnist Melanie Phillips, writing in her Substack blog, restates an inconvenient truth: there is a direct link between the ideology of the wartime Mufti, Haj Amin al-Husseini, and the 7 October 2023 Hamas massacre in southern Israel.
The Mufti of Jerusalem Haj Amin al-Husseini meeting Adolph Hitler in November 1941
Like the Nazis, Hamas and its Iranian puppeteers intend to destroy Israel and wipe out every Jew. We know that because they tell us this over and over again.
And the Palestinians are not just like the Nazis; they are the direct descendants of Nazis. For in the 1930s, their forebears in Mandate-era Palestine formed Hitler’s legion in the Middle East. Their leader, the Mufti of Jerusalem Haj Amin al Husseini, pledged to Hitler that if Germany won the war the Mufti would exterminate every Jew in the Middle East.
Al Husseini is the self-proclaimed role model of Mahmoud Abbas, leader of the Palestinian Authority (PA) whom the west regards as an acceptable moderate — and whose doctoral thesis was a work of Holocaust denial.
So there’s a direct line from the Nazi Holocaust to the October 7pogrom. The difference is that in 1939 the civilised world finally got itself together to fight and defeat Nazism. Today, that world is no longer civilised; many of its most educated members now support the forces of evil instead. Indeed, they are parroting the psychotic and genocidal tropes of Nazism.
That’s why the reaction in the west to Israel’s war against the evil of Hamas is causing such horror among Israelis and most diaspora Jews — most, not all, because tragically some diaspora Jews have themselves joined the camp of evil, an insupportable horror that was passionately denounced by Ammiel Hirsch, a progressive rabbi in New York.
It’s why the Jewish world doesn’t view the campus encampments as just silly students mouthing off in ignorance on the latest cause — as those in the west with their heads stuck firmly in the sand dismiss them — but as hotbeds of open and genocidal Jew-hatred: an army of extermination mobilised by Hamas and the far-left in a Soviet-style hijack of truth and language to demonise Israel in order to delegitimise and destroy it.
It’s why the Jewish world shudders when it hears these students accuse Israel of perpetrating genocide and watches them taunt and defame Jews, hurl false and demonising accusations at them and drive them off campus. For this is the lunatic, Nazi-themed inversion of reality and wholesale denial and cultural appropriation of the Jewish experience that the Palestinian Arabs deploy, year in, year out to incite murderous hatred among their own people in order to wipe out Israel and the Jews.
As Palestinian Media Watch has reported, the Palestinians’ “Nazi” libels against Israel have intensified since the October 7 attacks. In March, the official (“moderate”) PA daily stated that Israel’s war of defence against Hamas has exceeded all the German Nazi and Italian Fascist crimes of annihilation known to history.
Read article in full
Palestinian collaboration with the Nazis extended well beyond the Mufti
Nazism still flourishes in Arab nationalist and Islamist ideologies

⚫️ Saraya Al-Quds military spokesperson, Abu Hamza:
—
We continue the battle of honor and steadfastness in the war of extermination imposed on our unarmed people, which was essentially rooted in the accumulation of the occupation's and settlers' assaults on Al-Aqsa Mosque, the prisoners, and the blatant violations against our people in Gaza, the West Bank, and Al-Quds, and the tightening of the siege with baseless pretexts, ultimately leading to the major explosion that we have repeatedly warned about.
The Palestinian people and their resistance are stronger and greater than the desperate attempts at liquidation.
The enemy's declared goal of annihilating the resistance will not be achieved, even if the war continues indefinitely.
Whoever wants to take our weapons, we will take his soul.
What happens in the field at the hands of the fighters is far greater than what the resistance's cameras can document.
We announce the downing of a zionist intelligence aircraft in the skies of Khan Younis city and the seizure of important information contained within it. Our field units greatly benefited from it.
Our fighters bombarded the enemy's vehicles with mortar shells, rockets, and appropriate weapons, in addition to eliminating a special zionist force that fortified itself in one of the buildings. We will later show what confirms this.
Greetings to our fighters in Jenin, Tulkarem, and all of the West Bank, who turned the occupation's jeeps into scrap in Al-Jabriyat neighborhood in the Jenin of [Mahmoud] Tawalbeh.
We warn the zionist settlers and say to them: Netanyahu's call for your imminent return to the Gaza envelope is a continuation of his selling you illusions and mirages. Our decision in the resistance is that there will be no return or stability, God willing, as long as the war continues and as long as the killing and displacement continue. The resistance will have its action and its word, God willing.
Perhaps the most significant achievement of the enemy's army is its expertise in destroying stone and humans with tons of American explosives, which exposed the hypocrisy of the world and those who claim to believe in human rights.
Despite all this, in the end, Netanyahu will have no choice but to submit to what the battlefield dictates and go, reluctantly and submissively, to his resounding historical defeat by the command of Allah.

Who is behind global terrorism?
When injustice is the controlling legal rule - and not anomalies - this heralds the destruction of the world and the coming of resurrection. When the oppressed turns into an oppressor and the criminal into a judge - the world stands before a dangerous slide. It will either struggle against the forces of injustice or disappear and commit collective suicide. It is strange that global Judaism and the powers of European civilization have never tried to recognize truth and justice. For a period of (five centuries and the invasion continues...) this is how Noam Chomsky gives the title of his book... It is a title that clearly indicates that we are confronted in different ways - secret and public - A crusade war several centuries ago... The apparent crusade war did not end until the Europeans - through the writings of orientalists and the vanguards of modern colonialism - rushed to change their plans and start another war of a special nature (!!)... It is a permanent conflict with different methods... annihilation of others and no Something other than this..!! · Britain had the honor of destroying and exterminating millions of Muslims in the Indian subcontinent and Africa. As for France, in Algeria alone it had the honor of exterminating eight million Muslims within one hundred and thirty years. · Thus, we find that the conflict orientation is a continuous, almost constant line in the position of Euro-American civilization towards the Muslim other... and based on the ancient pagan religious thought based on (the struggle of the gods) in Greece, and the philosophical thought based on the sayings of (Nietzsche and Hegel), and the economic thought based on (the class struggle). And (the brutality of capitalism) for the benefit of the rich in order to achieve the rule of the globalization of poverty to annihilate four-fifths of humanity... passing through (the end of history) for the benefit of capitalism according to Fukayama, and (the clash of civilizations) according to (Huntington) and his teacher (Bernard Lewis), the permanent (British-American Jewish) theorist. Because Muslims must be exterminated by all means. Based on this violent racist vision against Muslims, the West always applies double standards in favor of the Jews, constantly obstructs the effectiveness of the United Nations and the Security Council, and creates forms of terrorism through rented, deformed, or ignorant individuals in order to justify its genocide of Islamic peoples in exchange for... Individual mistakes. What is surprising is that he was condemned without a trial or legal procedures. Even today, the events of September 11 are still far from being subject to a fair international court in which the facts are known as they are, not as one party portrayed them.
