Melancholic Makalaure
Or
Maglor being a dramatic teen
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You can't tell me he would not lay around in his bed crying and composing sad songs.
On another note I just had a hour for this drawing so please be kind and don't flip him. His face is so wonky I laughed so hard I cried.
Here is a closer shot of his face
Tumblr media
I also realized know that I forgot to color his eyebrows in. Upsi well too late I guess

This post goes in appreciation of Ulmo. I think that Ulmo doesn't get the praise he deserves, he was the only Vala who never gave up on elves and men and loved them greatly. Unlike his brothers, he never hid himself behind the pélori, instead chose to stay on the sea and rivers, watching closely over the children of Iluvatar, helping them every time he could. He always felt compassion towards them and held hope that they could do the right thing.
If you ask me, he is the one who deserves to be the king of the Valar instead of Manwë.

Controversial Silmpost time
I don't blame Elwing for not returning the Silmaril. She was really nothing more than a child. I also can't really blame Dior for the same reason (though he is more complicated, because if he was a mannish child and not half-elven because of Luthien's Choice, he was fully grown at 34). But Thingol and Luthien? Oh yes. Yes, I blame them.
They knew damn well what would happen eventually, Luthien even experienced the Fëanorians at their worst 1st hand, almost getting forced into a marriage all for the sake of the Silmarils. She knew that they'd do ANYTHING, even to their own friend and cousin, because she saw it. They even tried to kill her and Beren. They knew the story of Alqualondë. They knew. But they willingly kept that thing around their family, their *children* even knowing full well that it would likely be the death of them. Heck, Luthien, and Beren aged and died prematurely because of the presence of that thing, and she yet still gave it to her young son with small children while knowing that the Girdle was gone.
Of course, the Fëanorians had no right to do what they did, that goes without saying. But Thingol, Luthien, and Beren really should have known better. Anti-Fëanorian or Anti-Sindar, there is simply no denying that the Elders of the royal line of Doriath played a huge role in the decimation of the kingdom and Sirion later.
They are certainly not blameless in the whole thing. It's more like a 75% vs 25% thing rather than 50/50, but certainly not negligible enough to be glossed over or ignored.
In the end, my question is just... If you know that a fire will eventually kill you if you don't turn off the stove, despite it having been very difficult to light it, why would you deliberately leave it on, even if the fire warned you multiple times that you should turn it off?

"Felagund drew nigh among the trees to the camp of Bëor and he remained hidden, until all had fallen asleep. Then he went among the sleeping men, and sat beside their dying fire, where none kept watch ; and he took a rude harp which Bëor had laid aside, and he played music upon it such as mortal ear had never heard. For Men had as yet no masters in such arts, save only the Dark-elves in the wild lands. Now men awoke and listened to Felagund ad he harped and sang ; and they marvelled, for wisdom was in that song as well as beauty , so that the heart grew wiser that hearkened to it. Thus it was that Men called King Felagund whom they first met of all the Noldor, Gnome or Wisdom ; and after him they named his race the Wise, whom we call the Gnomes."
(The Lost Road)
Obviously this is one of the maaaany things on which Tolkien changed his mind 34 times, and there are other origins given in HoME to the name "Gnomes" and "Noldor", but I did vaguely remember this one and it is my favourite one !!!
Because I do find it not a little ironic that of all the different Elven people the Noldor in particular are "the Wise", and I do think that their being named "The Wise", by Men, solely because they are Finrod's people is a good origin story for that name. I like it better than them calling themselves "The Wise" in any case.
(Btw what if Maglor or Turgon or any of the other Noldor had found Men first ? What name would they have given them ? "The Flamboyant Ones" ? "The Dour Ones" ? "The Fiery Ones" (Maedhros) ? "The Sulky Ones" (Caranthir), "The Crazy Ones" (Celegorm), "The Adrenaline-Junky Ones" (Fingon), "The Frozen Ones" (Fingolfin), "The Scary but Hot Ones" (Aredhel)).

Concept: Elrond is, by Middle-Earth standards, a perfectly respectable level of fancy. You know, he's an elf-lord, he has plenty of robes with intricate embroidery or layers of flowing fabric, he wears finely-crafted jewelry, especially during formal occasions. He's elegant, but not gaudy– there are some tasteful references to his various ancestors in his outfits, he's got a whole image. He assumes that this is like, standard for the Noldor.
What Elrond failed to realize when he sailed to Valinor is that the expectations for "Middle-Earth elf lord with vaguely Noldorian implications" and "Noldor prince in the Blessed Realm" are two very different things. He goes to a feast and everyone is dressed like they'll die if they're not wearing four layers of skirts and at least 20 pounds of gems and precious metals. He shows up to Finarfin's court wearing more jewelry than he ever would've worn in Rivendell and people still flash him strange looks and ask him whether he wasn't feeling up to dressing up that night. He'll braid his hair in the half-up half-down style he often wore in Rivendell and it'll cause a scandal because– gasp– Elrond had part of his hair loose. In public. Noldor keep giving him jewelry because they've collectively decided that he's clearly been deprived in Middle Earth. He's confused and a little bit afraid, frankly.
Thankfully, most of the attention is taken off Elrond when Tirion is engulfed in drama the likes of which hasn't been seen for hundreds of years. The cause? Galadriel showing up in Tirion with her hair entirely loose, and no jewelry to speak of. Her robes are entirely plain. Her only adornment is her unbearably smug smirk.

And it is told of Maglor that he could not endure the pain with which the Silmaril tormented him; and he cast it at last into the Sea, and thereafter he wandered ever upon the shores, singing in pain and regret beside the waves.

Behold~ Maglor being the drama queen I think he would have been~ (he's famous for being the best elvish singer around. No way he wasn't at least a lil melodramatic).
Side note - I know they didn't technically have a 'sun', but I wanted to draw a sunrise, so eh.

Crack idea: Elrond’s tired of elves constantly asking him to be king, and when they finally say ‘if not you, at least choose one of your sons!’ plonks the crown on Aragorn.
He has the training. The skills. Is well known and generally loved by the vast majority of elves anyway.
And if they don’t like it? Well. They should’ve been more specific.
It’s worth mentioning Thranduil finds the whole thing *hilarious* and doesn’t even try to hide that he’s sending his most problematic elves Aragorn’s way. Elrond and Galadriel start doing the same and we end up with Gondor filled with hardcore Doriathrim and Fëanorians.
The only reason they’re not throwing hands is the position of High King is cursed and no one wants to answer to Elrond if his youngest son gets so much as a paper cut on their watch. Especially since this whole thing is their fault. Aragorn ends up with a constant guard of Sindar and Noldor he can’t shake off no matter what he does.
