Additional Wynonna Earp Vengeance thoughts
This is going to be all the spoilers. You have been warned.
First of all, things that brought me a lot of joy:
The first scene up until things went bad. Nedley. Mercedes. Being buddies. Everything Mercedes was wearing including her monogrammed fanny pack of fishing lures.
Mercedes being like “the face. Kill me if you must but do not harm the face.” And hey, props to Mina for listening?
Bunny Loblaw cameo. The woman just gets better every time.
Any and all Wayhaught physical activity.
The entire Wynonna and Doc intro in Tombstone. That was just pure 100% Wynonna perfection.
“No we will NOT be redoing those stairs. They are very important to me for reasons.” - Nicole Haught
Every comment from Wynonna about how drunken brawling is actually precisely what Mercedes would have wanted at her wake (although I think Mercedes would have wanted more male strippers tbh).
I am typing this as I walk my dogs and we just passed a gold penis-shaped piece of confetti on the sidewalk outside a bar. Mercedes Gardner: never truly gone.
There was some quality Earp sister time that I did enjoy although it was slightly off (see Waverly discussion).
I am very much not up on current music so I didn’t get 100% of the references but Doc talking to Waverly about Megan Thee Stallion is what I came for.
Wistful comment about friend from Arizona. Thank you, Doc. Sorry your new bf was a tool.
The conversation between Wynonna and Nedley at the cemetery was perfect and should have happened years ago.
The fact that no one for a moment doubted that the three people Wynonna loves most are Waverly, Alice… and Nicole. I will be a Wynnaught shipper till the day I die.
Wynonna going to hell was pretty badass.
Nedley hitting hellhounds with his truck.
No pyramid schemes!
Now for the complaints.
At no point did they convince me that Mina was actually worse than all the demons they’ve faced before. Really? Sure, she doesn’t follow Revenant rules, but they’ve dealt with Bulshar. She does not remotely compare.
I also didn’t really buy the backstory stuff: Wynonna trying to impress a bunch of mean girls by summoning a demon for them? Taking them to the homestead at all? None of that felt true to her. I also don’t know why the group home girls were just suddenly back in Purgatory. (Also Dawson’s Freaks is the STUPIDEST.)
I think maybe Mina would have worked with a full season of build-up, but this was just not enough time.
I’m really pissed off about Mercedes surviving everything just to be murdered as a plot device. I love her, ok? She deserves better.
I am less pissed about Doc because I think they handled it decently - one last epic shootout, burying him in the spot where he wanted to raise Alice, the symmetry with burying Dolls (on the same hill, I think?), letting him come to terms with aging and dying. But it was so unnecessary. And so rushed: we never got to see anyone’s reaction but Wynonna’s (and Jeremy’s wildly out of character non-reaction). He was such an important character and we never got to say goodbye properly.
Not enough Jeremy.
Nicole’s attitude towards Wynonna up until that big don’t tell Waverly moment just made me so sad. I love their dynamic. I don’t know what happened.
In general, it felt like Nicole majorly backslid.
Biggest problem, though: Waverly. And I’m going to be upfront here and say that I was never as enamored with Waverly as a lot of people are. But I did like her and this didn’t feel like Waverly.
I think it’s fantastic that Dom has come out and become more comfortable in their skin and that they didn’t force them back in the girly Waverly box for this.
But I think they changed too much. Physically, the hair, the nose ring, the tattoos, the wardrobe choices (the wifebeater? The bolo tie?). But there was also her behavior. Jumping into a bar fight aggressively after relatively minor provocation was a lot. There was nothing of the light, bubbly Waverly left aside from a craft room. It just felt like part of her died. Like something happened over those 5 years that traumatized her worse than the stuff we actually witnessed. And Nicole being so unconcerned about it.
Anyway, that’s most of it?

My favorite ships ranked!
There's a huge chance this list will change once every two days at the very least, but let's do it!
1. SUPERCORP
Literally my favorite ship ever. They're just perfect for each other in every possible way. Their love languages complement each other perfectly, they can rely on each other, and they work together like the best team in the world. Lena needs love and Kara knows how to offer it without asking for anything in exchange. She will take whatever Lena is willing to give her and be happy about it. But Kara still needs someone that will look at her and see who she really is, no judgment, and someone who she will be comfortable being herself - Kara Zor El - with.
Speaking of fanfic, I think it’s safe to say these fandom has some very talented authors who gave us very well written works. They can also work in every possible scenario, so that's a huge bonus.
Favorite scene: "Supergirl might have saved the city, but, Kara Danvers, you're my hero."
2. SHOOT
Shoot is THAT couple that should have ended up together, but didn’t. I don't hold a grudge on it, though, because Root's death made sense to the show's ongoing plot. I can't say they would be perfect like Supercorp because Shaw has some emotional problems and Root is just also in love with a artificial intelligence or whatever, but they would work. Shaw would try - for Root - and Root would love every part that Shaw allows her to see.
Favorite scene: "You can't live with me and I can't live without you."
3. WAYHAUGHT
Do I even have to say anything? Our most perfect CANON couple. They were perfect from start to finish. The way Nicole absolutely adored Waverly, almost like a worship even, but wasn’t afraid to stand tall on her ideas and opinions. The way Waverly acted like Nicole hung the moon and stars in the sky just for her, and how we know she would be able to do anything to keep Nicole happy. They're that couple that make everyone's teeth rotten with how sweet they are.
Favorite scene: "You guys make The Notebook look bleak."
4. CABENSON
One of my favorite gay ships, so it has a special place in my heart. In the early seasons, it's pretty clear, at least for me, that Alex and Olivia could have something going on. I believe they were both shoving it away because none of them was ready to get seriously involved with anyone and they knew that whatever they decided to have would be too special to be treated lightly. Unfortunately, time was cut short for them when Alex got pulled away for WitSec.
I do think they will forever be each other's "almost", or "what if", but they're long past that now. They changed too much and they did it separately. If they were together, they would have changed around each other and, possibly, be able to work those differences to stay together. But now I don't think they would be able to keep a relationship. It's a bit sad, but it's also a very good portrait of reality.
Favorite scene: "You like being back on court, don't you?"
5. BISHOVA
I'm new to this ship, but I already love it. They remind me a lot of Shoot, actually. We just know that Yelena needs to find someone who would love her with no restrictions and that she deserves to find love. And Kate needs someone able to ground her, but also someone who allows her to be as silly as she wants, someone that will always have her back, doesn't matter how insane her plans might be. They have chemistry too. Also, I can see them getting together with no drama at all, or maybe something they can easily solve, and then being together for the rest of their lives to the point that they can't even remember a time they didn’t know each other. We didn’t get to see them that much, sadly, but I keep my hopes up for more scenes of them in the future.
Favorite scene: "You have one fork?"
6. FLEURMIONE
Okay, two intelligent and beautiful women together? Sign me in! I've been in Harry Potter's fandom for many, many, years now and, after giving it too much thought, I can safely say that Fleur would be the perfect match for Hermione. She would challenge Hermione, they would have endless discussions about any and every subject, they would have enough books together to fill up a library, and they would make each other want to be better every day. I also see Fleur being a bit sarcastic and Hermione keeps rolling her eyes at her at least fifteen times a day.
Fleur is constantly curious about the muggle world, always eager to learn anything Hermione is willing to show her. She would have a great relationship with Hermione's parents, mostly because she thinks they're one of the most genius people on the planet because they know how to fix people's teeth. Meanwhile, Gabrielle would loooove to talk with Hermione, especially when they get together to embarrass Fleur.
Favorite scene: You know, the totally canon one when Fleur asked Hermione to the Yule Ball.
7. LOU MILLER X DEBBIE OCEAN
Heist wives? Yes, please.
We don't even need to pretend. These two were totally banging throughout the whole movie. The headcanon is that they used to date, then Debbie made some stupid decisions, met the wrong people, they broke up for a while and then Debbie got locked up. I believe Lou was so angry with her for both being stupid and for ruining what they had because she wanted to get more money than they actually needed, that she didn’t even visit Debbie in prison.
While there, Debbie had enough time to realize how much of an idiot she had been, so it's up to her to win Lou back. Meanwhile, Lou knows that she's screwed the second she sees Debbies smile again. She just can't help but orbit around her.
Also, they're the Moms, no doubt about that.
Favorite scene: "Baby, I don’t have a diamond yet."
8. DANSEN
The only reason they’re all the way down here is because I hate CW, but I actually love them more than half of my family. They’re married, they’re moms, they’re in love, they’re perfect. Someone as caring as Kelly needed someone to make her go crazy like Alex, while Alex deserved someone that would understand her no matter what. Honestly, I just love them.
Favorite scene: THE PROPOSAL
9. CAROLNAT
Is there any chance this could happen? No.
Do I still dream about it? Constantly.
It's just one of those couples where things would just work. My biggest headcanon for them is that they would be constantly laughing and having fun. Always joking and playing around with each other. Natasha would crave physical touch and Carol would be happy just to be around her at all. Carol would finally find a reason to stay on Earth without feeling guilty about it and Natasha would one thousand percent make a retirement party for her.
Also, they would protect each other so fiercely that no one would even dare to warm any of them.
Favorite scene: The one where Natasha ends up on top of Carol in the training room. Totally canon, trust me.
10. GLORBIA
Might sounds crazy, but hear me out.
Barbie is literally Gloria's dream Barbie, and Gloria is the reason Barbie is alive. Once Barbie becomes human, I can totally see Gloria falling for her without even noticing it, while Barbie takes a while to realize what are those things she's feeling. I do believe Sasha would have a strong part in bringing them together. She would be the one to explain to Barbie what a crush is and what being in love should feel like, and then she would have to give her mom a gentle push to acknowledge her own feelings.
After that, fluff all the way. Gloria would be the most patient person in the world while she sees Barbie navigating human life, just happy to have whatever Barbie is comfortable giving her. Meanwhile, Barbie keeps getting surprised by how strong her feelings can be every time she even looks at Gloria.
Favorite scene: Not a scene per se. Instead, I'm bringing that Tumblr post that says "Ken only has a great day when Barbie looks at him. Gloria always has a great day when she looks at Barbie."
Bonus
11. GAY BELLA
Quite literally, any lesbian ship from Twilight. My favorite one is Rosella, but Bella x Tanya is a close second. Bellice is also a very strong candidate, not to mention Bella x Kate. And, oh, did I hear someone say Bella x Irina or was it Bella x Leah? Honestly, just give me lesbian Bella and I will be happy.
12. ROJARIAS
One of the hottest couples that exist.
Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

It’s true that they didn’t hide Kat’s pregnancy very well. At the same time - I actually love the fact they didn’t. I love the fact that she just looked like she put on a lot of weight and no one even made an issue out of it. Think about what would have happened if the creator and showrunner for WEARP wasn’t a woman.
More specifically - wasn’t Emily Andras. How do you think they would have addressed that “problem”? Because it would very much be a problem to them.
I can tell you how immediately: “You can’t do the job.”
Kat is pregnant, not incapacitated. But I guarantee you if it was anyone else that did this special that they would have behaved as if pregnancy was incapacity.
Emily did the opposite and said: “Your character ate too many lemon scones and that is completely fine.”
Because fat characters are fine.
And pregnant actors are fine.
It’s not a problem. It’s not incapacity. It’s human nature. And the fact they didn’t bother to hide it well…
👌
Kat got a fucking job and Nicole got to be a Fat Amy.
And I think that’s fucking awesome! Good on Andras!
AND… I also very much guarantee you that that off-screen WayHaught sex scene wouldn’t have been off-screen if Kat hadn’t been pregnant during the filming. So what’s even more amazing is that Emily sacrificed what would have been “necessary representation” to the fans so Kat wouldn’t have to take off her clothes.
WEARP is a gay IP targeted primarily to gay people. They would have absolutely tried to one-up 4x02. So the only conceivable reason why they didn’t was that. Putting the priority on the safety and comfortability of Kat over “WLW representation” points with the fans is an honourable, respectful and admirable thing to do.
So instead we got a pretty passionate intimacy scene between WayHaught that we were cut away from in exactly the same way as we were with the WynDoc intimacy scene. But I absolutely can guarantee you that were Kat not pregnant when filming the special - it would have been more than that because… in that case… Emily would have prioritised the fandom needs. That most definitely tells me straight away that what was most important to Emily Andras (and Tubi as well) throughout this venture with ‘Vengeance’ was how safe and secure the cast was in coming back to do it.
And I don’t know about you guys but I absolutely think that’s much more worth having than a sex scene. So if there’s any fans that are disappointed about that…
There’s your answer. Take it or leave it.

vengeance thoughts
-i think the writers forgot mercedes became a vampire at the end of s4. rip queen you were a character of all time
-did we need to hear nedley say the word "rizz"
-karen knox of barbelle (2017) fame as the villain...i love you incredibly tight-knit canadian television community
-obsessed with the scene where they contrived an excuse for dominique provost-chalkley to speak french, sexily, despite it adding nothing to the plot.
-honestly my favorite callback of all the callbacks was The Goo. i remember The Goo. i remember everyone's angsty wayhaught theories about The Goo that never came to pass. and we finally got that angsty gooverly vs nicole fight everybody has wanted since 2016
-wayhaught sex
-hellhound designs were cool as hell tbh. i love you practical effects
-i liked how waverly and wynonna essentially switched places by the end - wynonna settling down, waverly seeing the world - and especially how that tied into waverly's arc in s1. she starts the series being held back by the expectations of her tiny town and nicole expands her world beyond what she could have dreamed of, but you can only rely on one person to do that to a point. eventually you have to make the choice to keep growing and keep changing yourself.
-not sure how to feel about doc's death? it did make me cry a little but it just felt like kind of a weird choice to do something so needlessly dark and sad when especially with the emphasis the show had on hope and love prevailing at all costs. it cheapens the s4 finale in a way i don't necessarily like (something which is very much exemplified through the final shot - paralleling the lovely "everyone welcome" ending shot of the series, where it was a capstone on a story that was defiantly, beautifully kind despite being about a woman who kills glowy cgi monsters with a magic gun, with a so-so "but demons please knock!" joke). kind of feels like doc himself in a way - something dead, dragged back to the surface a few too many times.
-that said, i couldn't tell if jeremy's "we're going to fix this" bit was about tracking down lafferty or bringing doc back? they definitely left the door open and since andras is very openly gunning for s5 it would be weird for them to do it without doc. so i wouldn't be surprised if they did a "the gang journeys into hell to get him back" arc if/when s5 happens (<- said the exact same thing about dolls in 2018)
-waverly in a gay little suit
-all in all absolute return to form for wynonna earp - i've been watching buffy for the first time and it was great to watch wynonna next to it, truly the heir apparent. quips and mcguffins and absolutely heartwrenching character work and beautiful women on my television screen. monster of the week i hope you never die

Make Or Break !!!!!
Respect! Respect! Respect!
I have a lot to say, so kindly bear with me.
When you feel what the characters are feeling while they are performing, it means they have great acting skills and they know what to be expected from them in a given situation, I don't know how to say this but big shout to Danielle Savre and Stefania Spampinato they can be really proud of themselves because that was some intense performance.
This whole episode was one big roller coaster ride when it comes to Maya and Carina ( I least care about other characters on the show for now, though I have a lots of not so good things about them when it comes to Maya) This is one the most important situation in their relationship as they have not being like this in past.
The essence of child abuse and having a traumatic childhood weather its from abusive or maniac father is so well captured, that how it effects a childhood and its there with you in some point of their life even if they are grown up, from showing how Maya being so strong headed and stubborn that she is unable to see her own issue and ask for help, the way she got panic since the time she opened her eyes and ask for Carina till the time where she was screaming Carina's name and had a panic attack.
Carina, such a strong character from being soft and giving space to Maya to that extended that she trusted that her wife will come back to her, and than fighting for her relation in the hospital so that her wife can get help to the extended that she is ready to loose her but can't see the love of her life in pain or most probably die.
Its a breaking point for both of them specially for Carina given her past history. I am really intrested to see how the writers how they will write their relation because they both need therapy and this will be the make or break for their relation, its like now or never kind of situation. I am just gonna trust the process till it run its course and hopefully we get our favourite couple back together. I just want happy ending. (My little heart is still not over from Sanvers break up and I love Marina so much that I just want happy ending. There is something special about women loving women having happy ending just like Wayhaught)
P.S - Special thanks to our Ao3 writers they have done a great job and helped us through the hiatus and hoping to read lot more great stories in future. You guys are Awesomeeee. Keep writing.

Thank you for linking to that fantastic Carina video, I’m sort of new to the show and I get all the news and links from you and I always appreciate everything you bring to the fandom.
I absolutely love Cam’s work from other ships/characters’ vids and I never thought about checking if she ever did some for Marina/Carina and she did and they are all amazing ❤️
I have to say reading the comments for the Carina vid showed everything I can’t stand about this fandom. The Maya stans who hates Carina because we know she only there to be loving and supportive of Maya 100% of the time, the second she has her own feelings and might be ~~mean~~ to poor defenseless Maya she’s a monster. They really watched a 8 minutes video about her to say how much she sucks! That’s commitment!
I know “shippers” like this from other fandoms (tbf it’s not a new thing) and I always think they are a bunch of unpleasant weirdos. The ones who loathe one character of a ship and keep shitting on them all the time because they relate to the other character to an embarrassing degree but wow Maya does get a lot of them.
That's so nice, thank you! ❤️
I've been following Cam since the Wynonna Earp days and loved her Wayhaught edits so I was very excited when she started watching/editing Marina. She does such great work!
I saw the one long comment in particular from a Maya fan that was destroying Carina and blaming her for everything that Maya was going through and I just don't have the patience for those kind of people, they're idiots. If people can't understand that Carina didn't abandon Maya when she left her at the hospital at this point then they'll never get it or understand Carina's character and they clearly don't want to. They just want to blame her for everything. Like calling her controlling and arrogant? Where?? And I'll never understand either how people will do that to a character when they apparently like the ship...like how do you not like both characters then? Makes no sense. They must not truly like Marina and only care about Maya because why would they want Maya to be with someone so awful in their eyes 🙄
#asks#anon#its not carina's fault the writers have maya mess up more than carina in their relationship#it doesn't make carina a terrible person -_-

Heyo!
Please answer questions 11 & 12 from the writing questions. 😁
Here's a picture of a sleepy Luna for your time.
Baby! Oooh I'm so sure the tummy is a trap, but it might be worth it.
11. What attracted you to the fandom(s)/media you write in?
I mean... the easy answer is badass women (Nancy, Sam, Yelena, etc etc). But it's like, you know how the Bechdel test started out because Alison's friend, a lesbian, couldn't see herself in movies with only male characters, or women who only existed to serve the men? I love my canon lesbians as much as anyone (Wayhaught forever), but the most compelling relationships to me are the ones where multiple female characters have shared trauma fully realized personalities and motivations that exist independently of the male protagonist. Which, you know, sometimes the original writing fails there (see: Robin becoming a St*ncy mouthpiece at the end of S4), but I think there's a reason the library scene spoke to so many people, myself included! We got to see how two similar-but-different characters inhabited a space together. That, for me, is the fun in writing.
12. Do you prefer writing in silence or to music?
Secret third option! I do most of my writing with a sports game on in the background. I grew up with baseball on the TV every day from April through October, hockey and basketball on in the winter, and broadcasters are now white noise to me.
I do use music in my writing, but I don't actively write to it. Instead, I like to walk around my neighborhood listening to my 5 bands (bonus points if you can name them) brainstorming. That combination of physical movement and audio input usually helps me reach the state I need to sit down and write.
Fanfic Q&A!

which ship do you like more wayhaught or avatrice and why
Hello anon who most definitely isn’t my wife 👀
At this point in time I would say Ava and Beatrice. While Waverly and Nicole have been such a big part of my heart for a few years, we got to see a full story; an entire journey with beginning and end. A happy one at that.
But Ava and Bea, they were snatched away too soon. Their story was just beginning. God the longing, the craving, the repressed desire, the need to touch. The devotion to the other. Everything that they could have been, taken away too soon. And in the way it happened?? Like, how can they not live in my brain 24/7 when Ava confessed her love and Bea could only let her go in order to save her. Ava having gone through the portal without hearing her love was reciprocated. The pain and sadness will stick with me for a long time and I’m not ready to let them go.
Save Warrior Nun, amiright 😉

three ships: listen....idk if these are my top three but these are the ones i’m feelin most rn I think
gentlebeard. ofc. who are we kidding. i know everyone keeps saying this but this ship has altered my brain chemistry. any other ship i have ever shipped has only led to this i swear. i started watching ofmd on a whim because i liked taika via WWDITS and jojo rabbit. i really had no idea this ship was going to happen and i didn’t even watch in real time y’all. i just didn’t see any spoilers because i’d been out of fandom spaces for....idk, legit years until this show
destiel. i know. i know. but this ship feels like its in my dna at this point; i spent so long on supernatural you guys. that show did me and everyone so fkn dirty but man. it’s like...imagine what could’ve been?
wayhaught. i never see anybody talking about this one but!!! i really enjoyed watching wynonna earp and waverly and nicole are so good together....such a feel good ship. i think i may rewatch soon because i honestly don’t think i’m caught up due to streaming service issues i was having.
my honorable mentions are going to be laszlo/nadja because i love them SO much but who doesn’t ship them - they’re literally married. and marriage goals too lbr.
first ever ship:
“peterick” i can’t believe i am admitting this lol please don’t judge me but i got into fanfiction and shipping so young that the first people i can remember shipping were pete and patrick from fob. which is super embarrassing lol. but hey....that’s what happens when you’re a tween i guess. i thought much differently about RPF at 12 than i do now obv....
last song:
tearin’ up my heart by *NSYNC which is really funny because i don’t necessarily listen to *NSYNC much and when i do it’s one of their singles, but i’ve been very much into 90′s pop lately while i’m driving or working.
last film:
i jusr rewatched suicide squad (the good one) tonight, but the last movie i watched for the first viewing of it was bullet train i believe. and it was fuckin fire.
currently reading:
this is going to sound terrible, but i haven’t read a book in ages. i just don’t have the attention span to concentrate sadly. i also have to read a lot for work so that doesn’t help.
currently watching:
i’ve been watching abbott elementary as it airs, and i enjoy it. it’s an easy watch and kinda reminds me of parks n rec, which is one of my all time favorite shows. i’ve also started watching doom patrol and that’s decent as well.
currently consuming:
i am addicted to the luigi’s lemon flavored italian ice. the ones you buy at the grocery store? yeah. i just had that.
currently craving:
if we’re talking food? i’ve wanted a dairy queen blizzard for the past week. otherwise, i ********************
anyways, thank you for the tag!
let’s see if i can come up with ten folks here to tag: @red-sky-in-mourning @dirtgrub @blackbeardskneebrace @forest-sprites @taikawaititisbellypudge @appleteeth @mossknit @stedesparasol @ourflagmeansgayrights @pradelle
this was a bit of fun but no pressure to anyone to do one :)

Finally got the chance to comment about this article.
First of all, I want to say that I never really realized that Nicole Haught wasn’t the only queer character to not be killed off throughout the entire show’s run. Wow.
Second of all, I want to address this part of the article.
“Why It Matters.
The point I’m trying to make in all this is that killing off queer characters isn’t necessary. There are ways to write dramatic tension that don’t involve death, and Emily Andras just proved that in spades with the most recent season of Wynonna Earp. Death, maiming, torture, and suffering as default for Dramatic Satisfaction™ and Shock and Awe™ just isn’t going to cut it anymore.
Neither is flat, overly saccharine, stakes-less storytelling that ditches true dramatic tension for predictability seemingly to avoid pissing off queer audiences. I don’t know about you, but the idea that I have to be treated like I could ‘go off’ at any second because queer characters face any kind of threat feels pandering and condescending. We deserve better than that, too.
In the end, it’s about building trust with your audience. Once Andras proved that she’s not out to kill us, we can trust her to handle WayHaught with the delicacy it deserves. We don’t have to worry that Waverly will kill Nicole, or that Nicole’s secret marriage will completely destroy their relationship. Having proven that she cares about the community and representing our characters well, audiences can lean into the tension of the narrative without fear that it means death, suffering, or a breakup.
Wynonna Earp proves this middle road can be walked. Queer female audiences now know that they don’t just have to hope for better than infantilizing or destructive stories, they can actually get better stories. We can get well-paced, well-written sexy, sexy drama that honors character growth, plot, and themes. We can see our faves and their romantic relationship survive anything and everything the plot throws at them. We can get Unkillable Queers.”
Look,… while I am fully sympathetic to the notion of how harmful the Bury your Gays trope is and how often queer female characters get killed off in particular, I do think people take this trope to the extreme when they claim it. Queer characters, female or otherwise, can be killed off in TV art/entertainment without perpetuating BYG. It just depends on HOW and WHY they’re killed off. Whether it makes sense, whether it’s the most appropriate endgame for them depending on what type of character they are and where their story goes. Xena’s death in the final episode of ‘Xena: Warrior Princess’ is highly regarded as Bury your Gays in the Xenite fandom and I 1000% disagree with that statement because of the respect to who Xena is as a character and the fact that she had all the agency in whether she should stay dead or be brought back to life. SHE’S the one saying that she has to stay dead. SHE’S the one that chooses a heroes death. To die with a sword in her hands. While I don’t like the plot for those last 2 episodes of the show because I think it’s lazy writing, I do like that the queer lead female protagonist character has all the agency in deciding and that her love has to respect her wishes in that. That is not a Bury your Gays situation to me at all. Bury your Gays, to me at least, is when a queer character gets killed off completely unawares and therefore has no chance to have any agency in what happens to them, and either during an intimate moment with their love or right after intimate relations have happened - because that comes across in the narrative as a direct punishment for being queer. Bury your Gays to me is Tara’s death, Lexa’s death, Villanelle’s death - there are many more examples…
Just killing any queer female character off at all does not immediately make it perpetuating that harmful trope. Some deaths of queer characters actually made the storytelling better or more consistent not only for all other characters but that character as well and I would say Xena is one as she does die how she wants to, and given what is set up with the soulmates AU’s, it actually makes the most sense for her to die first. The way the plot goes isn’t the best writing in the world, I do agree there. But death for her character’s endgame is not wrong and is certainly not perpetuating Bury your Gays. And I’m sure there’s other deaths of queer female characters that aren’t either. While, yes, I do understand that killing off queer female characters is a a cheap, easy and lazy way often used to build the tension and create higher stakes in the narrative or be the catalyst for evolving another character’s arc… it is not always done with malicious intention when it does look and feel like Bury your Gays and sometimes a queer character dying point blank does not look or feel like Bury your Gays at all. For example, I consider Tara’s death to be Bury your Gays because it looks and feels that way to me personally, but I can guarantee you that it was never intended that way and I could legitimately tell you that it rarely ever is any time it’s happened. It’s been claimed by the queer community and those claims are of course valid but I really do think they’re claimed too often out of anxiety and pain and not enough out of reason and logic.
It’s an extremely controversial subject to talk about and I am sympathetic to that but in all honesty I think the real problem with this harmful trope is a lack of education on it. A true understanding of what it is to kill a queer character and the tragic legacy it has led.
And lastly, I would like to say, once again, how much Emily Andras and Co have proved that to have a compelling and satisfying dramatic story in a show, you do not have to kill off any queer character at all and congratulate her and her team on how well she proved this by still putting her queer characters in life-threatening situations in deep respect to them as main or significant recurring queer characters in a supernatural/fantasy storytelling but showing that having them survive and thrive can still be satisfying and completely natural and logical in the narrative.
When it comes to my interest and engagement in TV show storytelling, i am always much more concerned about the story told and how and why it is being told than I am in how representation anxiety eclipses it. Meaning - I don’t have an issue with a female queer character being killed off so long as it’s written well and it makes the most sense both within the narrative and for that character’s own character development. I’ve always believed Xena’s death especially was the right or most appropriate endgame for her character because she had all the agency in it happening and how it happened and because it’s consistent with what was set up many seasons before it happened. There are other examples I can give where I believe this but I think I’ve made my point well with Xena.
Thematically it has some issues because it’s not a nice message to leave the show on and can be considered as glorifying suicidal ideation but it does make sense for a character like Xena to choose to die in the end regardless of how much we believe she didn’t deserve to and how much we wanted her to forgive herself. If she had had no agency - none whatsoever - then I would have had major problems with what happened.
In the final Pride Month throwback, @gnjoneswriter lays out her argument for The Unkillable Queer in fiction.

Mob boss Au where Waverly, Wynonna, and Willa are infamous mafia bosses and Nicole is a detective who’s undercover as a henchman to try and gather evidence to take them down. However, she doesn’t account for Waverly being overly friendly with every goon and knowing them all personally and picking Nicole out as a cop within ten minutes. Backed into a corner (literally and figuratively), Nicole makes a deal with the Earps, be their inside guy at the station - help them stay just beyond the reach of any legal takedowns - and Willa will let her live. This is the final straw for Waverly and Wynonna as they both want to leave their family’s criminal empire behind. Wynonna wants to find her daughter and Waverly wants to take a certain redhead cop on a date. Of course, the three of them work together to foil Willa’s plans and get her sent to prison for a handful of life sentences. The eldest Earp is anything but stupid and catches on to her sisters betrayal. Can the three of them make it out with their lives? Will Wynonna reconnect with her daughter? Will Waverly and Nicole ever get that cup of coffee?

thinking how it's such a shame wayhaught got kind of overshadowed by everything happening with clexa at the time because it's such a cute and consistent ship in a pretty fun show and imho would've gotten so much more recognition (that it absolutely deserves) if it happened before clexa even got together
#like the thing is clexa was instantly epic and promising#and it was a queer love story for a main protagonist which at the time was so rare#especially a wlw relationship#and wayhaught started out as an adorkable side ship#but man did it deliver over the years#and got way stronger and became one of the central points of the show#but i kinda feel like most of the fanbase couldnt migrate to wayhaught bc the trauma was so big#and nothing could compare to clexa at the time#but man wayhaught is honestly actually so worth it?#so yeah the timing is just a shame really#idk i randomly got to binging wynonna earp last week and it's a really good show esp if you loved buffy back in a day#and wayhaught is just... top shelf man it's top shelf

GABRIELLE: “I never thought I’d see this.”
XENA: “What?”
GABRIELLE: “You washing blood off my hands.”
XENA: “I never thought I’d see it either.”
The inclination for Xena to lie and fashion fantasies to save Gabrielle in ‘Legacy’ is something I could spend hours on thinking and writing about. Of course she won’t let Gabrielle near her if that’s what she plans to do because Gabrielle would outright refuse to lie. Her actions and choices - she knows she must own up to them. But Xena… Xena would spend eternity and the next serving the greater good in retribution for all her past sins… but not when it’s Gabrielle that has to pay for her own crimes. In that case she’ll go against the grain. She’ll even go against it if Gabrielle didn’t do it.
Because as she said… Gabrielle is more important to her than the greater good. Than her own moral code.
Mostly because she’s HER greater good. But also because she believes she doesn’t deserve to face any consequences to actions - even if they are her own.
And it wouldn’t make much sense for Gabrielle to be the opposite. To put Xena second. Only if it’s herself - which is something I feel like ‘Fallen Angel’ got wrong.
But this is it though. This is what it comes down to. This is why these final Season 6 episodes make sense.
The greater good is only put first if it’s themselves. Each other? Not a chance. Not even if it’s just once. You can’t make them pay for their crimes with each other. That’s something they will not allow to happen.
I’ve wrote about this extensively before but it bears repeating again. Xena and Gabrielle were true heroes. Meaning they weren’t about self-gain at any point. But first and foremost, they were heroes to each other and if for any reason one of them made a mistake or had a misstep somewhere in their actions, the other will do anything possible - regardless of how dangerous or even morally wrong it might be - just to save them.
Now ‘Legacy’ is interesting because obviously the audience is going to be on Gabrielle’s side just as Xena is. Not just out of bias but because they’ve seen the full picture of what happened. They see how much of an accident it was. But nevertheless, it was still going to be murder in the eyes of everyone else - even those that worshipped them and would be biased based on that alone - because they didn’t see the full picture.
They didn’t see that it was an accident and they wouldn’t take Gabrielle’s word for it that it was. So Xena feels she has to lie because how else could she ensure Gabrielle’s survival? And once Gabrielle tells them the truth, she feels she has to betray them all to the Romans. She doesn’t care about what’s morally right because it’s Gabrielle that’s caught in the fire.
Not her.
Then theres ‘AFIN’ where even though we, as the audience, know Gabrielle would do the same - it’s still shocking to actually hear her say it. That she doesn’t care about what’s morally right. Different situations and circumstances aside - it ultimately doesn’t matter about that because it’s Xena that’s caught in the fire.
Not her.
It’s like what I explained in that post talking about WayHaught and the trope of doing crazy things for love or doing the selfish or immoral things for love.
When you’re more important to each other than the greater good - you’re going to go against the greater good to save one another or to keep one another alive.
UNLESS the other requests or pleads for you to not to.
And this is the major striking difference with Xena.
Xena’s only stipulation to the moral code of serving the greater good is Gabrielle. That would be true even if Gabrielle herself requested it the way Xena did in ‘AFIN’. Not even Gabrielle’s choice would deter her from saving her or keeping her alive. From protecting her. Keeping her safe. And it’s up to you whether you consider that to be a good thing or not. I find it quite selfish because it makes Gabrielle seem more like a possession to Xena than regarded as an equal to her.
But that’s Xena. That’s how she operates. You see, she gives up her happiness in ‘AFIN’ in that she lets her go on without her. But only because she’s the dead one.
Were it Gabrielle that had to make that sacrifice.
Nope. It wouldn’t happen. And ‘Legacy’ proved it.
So ‘Legacy’ is interesting because it’s a compelling confliction they face and would own up to the consequences of - of which we know would only be true if it was themselves rather than each other. But even more so on behalf of their own request - of which Gabrielle acquiesced to. Xena did and would not have.
Was the show about the greater good? Mostly…
I’d rather put it as it was about the greater sacrifice because what’s good about sacrificing with your own end? And if there’s someone that goes beyond or above that for you,… how do you deal? Because you’re not sacrificing with YOUR end. You’re sacrificing with THEIRS. What if they specifically ask you to let them?
Do you ignore it? Or do you respect it? COMPELLING.

well that fucking sucked :(
spoilers under the cut
before i say any of this, i do wanna say, please watch it!! i may not make a strong case for it here but if we get enough views there might be another movie that can fix this shit show 🙏 even if you haven’t seen wynonna earp or simply dgaf, pls play it in the background or smthn, i literally cannot stand if wynonna’s story ends like this.
also know i’m not angry anymore and this ranting thing is the bomb dot com
not going too far into depth (edit: this is a lie) bc i might start crying (my mom already did bc this was a dumpster fire) but a few things i cannot get over is:
1. mercedes dying.. there’s an instagram tubi promotional post that had mercedes be one of the highlighted characters and i was so excited bc i wasn’t even expecting her at all (she’s literally my fave in the series), and having that excitement to be dashed in the first 5 minutes was literally the worst and should’ve clued me into how shit this movie was going to be. i kept expecting her to pop back up and say “hey, you can’t take me down that easy” bc we don’t see her full body, but seeing her severed head took it all out for me.. what the fuck. also, she’s literally a vampire and they just totally got rid of that for no reason. what the fuck
2. doc dying. literally what even was the point of that. he was tired and getting older and wanted to settle down with wynonna and alice and just live and grow for once in his fucking life and they kill him?? really? this is what the fan’s get for years of devotion? ik it’s up to the writers not the fans, but there was so much fan service in this it really feels like a slap to the face how much they fuck everything up at the same time. also, wynonna once again not getting a happy ending after spending the whole fucking tv show working for the happy ending she got at the end of season 4 is so.. what even was the point. no actually, i really want to know.
3. messing up all the happy relationships in general… having there be tension between wayhaught bc nicole is holding waverly back ???? what????? why was that the tension they went for when nicole literally became the angel’s shield to save waverly’s life. like.. idk it feels weird to have something so profound and selfless happen just to have it blow up in nicole’s face. they ended the tv series so happy and content, i was excited to see that loving dynamic continue in the movie and honestly for over half the movie it felt like they couldn’t stand each other which completely sucked.. :/
and omfg wynonna and haught bestiesm ruined sucked to. the whole fight they had about haught holding waverly back felt very forced and out of character. i know they’ve fought before over waverly’s best interest but idk!! it felt wrong here.. if this were a whole season of slow gradual build up it might’ve been executed better but this was an hour and a half movie with shoddy pacing so.. IDK i love nicole and wynonna’s dynamic so much so this also felt :/
and of course there’s wynonna and doc.. i can understand their tension the most bc they’ve always been hit or miss but it really fucking sucks to see wynonna time and time again be fucked over from happy endings (something i won’t get over unless we get a second movie that fixes the shit show of this movie). anyway, i hate how their storyline was more about them fighting and less about them working to get alice back. and when their is finally some hope, they take it away by killing doc for no reason
it’s my fault for expecting a fun movie with cheesy lines and a monster they get to band together to kill. i wanted wayhaught domestic bliss and wynonna and doc with alice and i didn’t get it and i’m disappointing and sad, but it’s not my story to tell i’m just sorry to have seen it.
anyway
4. no rachel ?? not even a mention?? she was so important in season 4, so completely not mentioning her at all was weird. a lot of details from season 4 seem to be completely abandoned which sucks :/
5. no vampire mercedes 😒 yes i’m still on this, idc what reason she had for it, i wanted to see more hot ass vampcedes and i am DISSAPOINTED ! fix it fic when??
6. the writing really was all over the place. it felt like they were trying to fit so many emotional plot lines in that it just felt both jammed and superficial. nothing really got the depth it needed bc they were trying to do so much at once. there’s a throw away line about waverly not wanting a kid and it wasn’t touched on at all the rest of the movie, abandoned the second it left her mouth. there’s also waverly gaining an alcohol problem that was dropped after the first 30 mins for some reason.. like that would’ve been interesting to explore in relation to her childhood trauma and adjusting to not be in constant danger for once in her life and would’ve been better than the whole “haught holding waverly back” storyline. anyyywayy, yeah i really expected the writing to be better bc i know emily andres is a talented writer and character builder. i really hope there’s improvement if we do get another movie, i haven’t given up on her yet i’m just very frustrated
7. hardly any jeremy??? at first i thought it was bc they couldn’t get the actor back and it’s like okay, he was probably busy i get it.. but then he shows up for the last 5 minutes??? his character could’ve been great for this movie. missed potential !
8. nedley calling wynonna her father’s daughter after calling ward an abusive drunk asshole was certainly a Choice (and not a good one). wynonna has worked time and time again to be a better person than her dad ever was.
9. main villain was a snoozefest sorry i couldn’t give a fuck about her and normally i love female villains bc they’re hot. really, the movie should’ve focused on eve, esp considering that storyline was abandoned s4! would’ve been more interesting.
10. peacemaker gone, why did it have to be wasted on such a boring villain. also why did peacemaker glow in that dude’s hand in the casino fight scene ??? what’s up with the writing here it’s all over the place.
anyway yeah that’s all i can remember !! getting all this out has been theraputic and i’m not as angry anymore bc this is just a movie. it really does hurt though so have such a perfect ending for the show be uprooted and fucked up with this movie. really makes me wonder what the point was, they should’ve just let it be perfect the way it was. watching it really did feel like they dug up loved one’s, used their corpses as meat puppets, then shot them in front of us, and i know that’s dramatic as fuck but that’s where i am rn so 🤷
i guess what pisses me off the most is that my mom has been so excited for this movie the second it was announced. she’s the biggest wynonna earp fan, she’s been reading wayhaught fanfic every single day for 4 years, she knows the ins and outs of the whole show. she was so excited for this and instead of getting the great film we were promised, she had to watch one of her favorite characters die (doc) a beloved character die (mercedes) in the first five minutes and her favorite ship feel ooc. the fun was sucked out of this film, i don’t know it’s purpose. i cry for her, i’m angry for her. emily should’ve left the show and these characters alone bc this movie is a stain on an otherwise great world
that being said there is some things i enjoyed and i will list them here for the sake of positivity and love for these characters and world
1. when they weren’t violently out of character, wayhaught had their classic and wonderful chemistry and love. they continue to have some of the best on screen kisses <3 dom and kat love these characters so much and it’s reflected so well in the performances
2. waverly’s short hair. so happy emily let dom keep their hair the same, truly one of the best parts of the movie. waverly was serving so hard, i love her so much 🫶
3. when the movie was good it was phenomenal, at some points it really did feel like we got our beloved characters back and i’ll forever love that <3 LIKE THE HELLHOUND SCENE OMFGGG TOP TIER SCENE !!! and the first act before everything went to shit was so fun!!!
4. wynonna backflashes were fun! the girl who played teen wynonna was well casted and she acted well, so i was pleasantly surprised there
5. mercedes and nedley fishing together <333 an unlikely friendship i wish wasn’t taken from us so soon. beyond cute and wonderful, i love them so much <3
6. when doc and wynonna weren’t fighting they were literally the love of the century, the porch scene makes me sad to think about but it really shows their love <3
7. wynonna being the most in character character, i do really believe she would go to hell to save her loved ones. also glad she came back <3
8. the possibility of doc being resurrected if there’s another movie or season!!!! pleek i want wynonna happy so bad (and if they can bring mercedes back too i’d be the happiest girl in the world)
anyway yeah i wanted to counteract my negativity with positivity bc although i personality did not vibe with the movie or certain choices, it wasn’t a complete bust. writing out all my thoughts helped put things into perspective and i don’t hate it as much as i did while watching/after. if you read all of this i’m surprised lmfao but hi you’re a real one <3
anyway!!
WATCH WYNONNA EARP VENGEANCE FREE ON TUBI SO WE HAVE A FIGHTING CHANCE AT ANOTHER MOVIE !!!!!
also finished my wynonna earp rewatch in record time so i can now finally watch the movie 🤩
#this got so far away from me sorry y’all#i had such high hopes for this and was sorely dissapointed#but i am okay <3 now and can’t wait for fix it fics to start popping up 😛#mercedes you will live forever i prommy

REAL SUBTLE (WAYHAUGHT)
Red.
All Waverly could focus on was the bit of red hair that poked out of the girl gliding around the rink in a sea of blue jerseys. She had just finished cheer practice and decided to stick around to watch Purgatory High’s girls’ hockey team practice. Waverly knew most of the girls on the team because Purgatory was such a small town and that meant pretty much everyone knew each other, but her attention was all on one particular player.
Nicole Haught.
She’d been the talk of the town from the moment she stepped foot in Purgatory a year ago, which was inevitable. After all, she was the new kid in a small town who’d arrived in the middle of the school year. And her striking red hair and insane hockey skills did not go unnoticed. Both earned her a nickname. Haught Shot.
She was like a ball of fire on the ice, speeding through her opponents. Yet, she never lost control of the puck gliding against her stick. It was truly a sight to see. A sight Waverly got to indulge in all alone in the bleachers. Practice was nearly over and most of the players had left the rink to shower and head home, but Nicole had the habit of staying behind for some time alone on the ice.
The janitors hated that because they had to stay later to maintain the ice after everyone left, but Waverly wasn’t one to complain. Not when she got to watch the tall athlete flex all the muscles in her body to shoot the puck into the net while skating in different directions.
“What are you still doing here?” Waverly was pulled out of her trance by the sound of her older sister arriving next to her and dumping her duffle bag on the seat next to her. “I thought I told you to wait for me in the hallway.” Wynonna had just put her phone away, so she didn’t notice Waverly drooling over the captain of the girls’ hockey team.
“Practice finished earlier, so I came to wait here instead of standing in the halls,” said Waverly. That wasn’t the real reason Waverly decided to wait in the bleachers, but Wynonna didn’t need to know that her little sister wanted Nicole Haught to pick her up with those strong arms of hers as she kissed her.
Wynonna had no trouble accepting that explanation as she shrugged and picked her bag up again after rolling her shoulders a few times. Just as Wynonna and Waverly were about to leave, Nicole appeared by the gate of the rink, seeming to be ready to call it a night as well. “Hey, Earp,” she called and both sisters turned around and the senior responded with a nod while the sophomore gave Nicole a shy ‘hey’.
“Right, sorry, forgot there were two of you. I should’ve said Earps,” Nicole offered with a half-smile.
“It’s alright Haught, no need for weird small talk. We were just about to leave,” Wynonna replied and smirked after seeing Nicole grow irritated by her.
“See you tomorrow, Earp.” Nicole rolled her eyes at the older sister, but then added in a gentler tone, “And see you around, Waverly.”
The sisters bid their goodbyes and finally left. Once they were in Wynonna’s car, Waverly smacked her older sister’s arm. “Do really have to annoy her all the time?”
“What?” Wynonna looked at Waverly, acting like she had done nothing wrong, but Waverly wasn’t having any of it. She kept up her semi-glare. “Come on, I’m just having a bit of fun. Dad’s pretty much forced me into hockey. And Haught’s… well, a hotshot. She’s the youngest captain Purgatory High has ever had. So, she needs to be humbled from time to time. Wouldn’t want her to become an arrogant asshole like a certain ex of yours now, do we?”
“She’s not like him,” Waverly said, but quickly corrected herself. “I mean, she doesn’t seem like that type of person.
“Are you and Haught BFFs now?” Wynonna snorted. With her eyes on the road, she couldn’t see Waverly trying her best to fight off the blush that was spreading across her cheeks.
“Just be nice, won’t you?”
“That’s your thing, babygirl,” Wynonna said, but seeing her little sister maintaining that stern expression of hers, she finally gave in. “Fine, whatever. I’ll be… polite. I don’t know why you’re being so insistent. I didn’t even know you and Haught were friends.”
“We’re not,” Waverly replied. Again, she wasn’t completely telling the truth, but if she were to describe what she and Nicole were, she wouldn’t use ‘friend’.
When Waverly snuck out of the house later on, she was certain that she and Nicole could never be described as just friends. Not when they were making out in the junior’s car parked behind the homestead, hidden behind some trees.
Being in a secret relationship was the last thing Waverly expected when her younger self thought about high school. In her fantasy, she would be an excellent student, probably highly involved in student life and maybe being in a happy relationship that everyone would be aware of. Firstly, because it was Purgatory, and secondly, because that was just how high school usually worked.
Most of it came true. Waverly Earp was known as a top student that many approached to have her tutor them. She was also part of the cheerleading squad ever since her freshman year and she was in various clubs here and there. Finally, there was that relationship she was in last year. The whole school knew about them, but Waverly didn’t qualify her first relationship that didn’t even last her whole freshman year as a happy one.
This one though, with Nicole. God, Waverly had never thought she could ever feel such a level of pure bliss around another person. Except maybe with her sisters during that one Christmas where she, Wynonna and Willa didn’t fight. And looked how that turned out. Willa had moved out as soon as she turned 18, leaving Wynonna and Waverly to live with their aunt Gus and uncle Curtis (who then passed away a short while after they’d moved in).
So, Waverly didn’t want to ruin her relationship with Nicole. The best solution she could come up with was to keep it lowkey, and by that, she meant to keep it private so that no one’s unwanted opinions would be heard, and no whispered rumours would torment them.
It was easy in the beginning, and God was it exciting. They snuck around in the halls, with Nicole pulling Waverly into an empty classroom when she knew everyone was too busy heading to the cafeteria for lunch. They would plan to have secret meetings in the bathroom that no student ever went in because of how far away it was from most classrooms. On days where Nicole didn’t have practice and Waverly did, the older girl would wait around for the cheerleader to finish just so she could say goodbye.
Being in a somewhat secret relationship did have its hardships though. It went from small things like not being to hold hands while walking down the halls to not being able to go hang out at each other’s houses out of fear of being caught by Wynonna or Chrissy, Nicole’s neighbour/Waverly’s friend. Sometimes, Waverly just wanted to yell to everyone that she had somehow gotten lucky enough to date the most wonderful girl in the world, but she couldn’t.
It wasn’t like they established that that was forbidden per se. They agreed to be discrete and not put their relationship on display, but they also agreed that at some point down the line, they wouldn’t hide anymore. They just didn’t know when or how.
“Hello to you too, Earp,” Nicole said once they pulled away from their heated kiss.
“Don’t you call my sister that?” Waverly pulled a face.
“Fine, fine. Hi, cutie.” The captain held the younger girl’s hands up to place a gentle kiss on her knuckles.
“Hi,” Waverly replied with a shy smile. “I missed you. I can’t believe I only saw you once today and it was from the bleachers.”
“I know, I’m sorry I couldn’t come meet you before practice. Coach called me in for an emergency meeting for tomorrow’s game.” Nicole kissed her as an attempt to wipe that pout off Waverly’s lips. “I missed you too, but we’re together now. So, no more dwelling on sad stuff, yeah?” As Waverly nodded, Nicole pulled out two burgers (vegan of course), fries and a smoothie from a take-out bag.
“Nic, it’s literally midnight.” Waverly pointed out.
“Perfect for a midnight snack then,” Nicole answered with a wink.
“You have the first game of the final tournament tomorrow,” Waverly added, no malice in her voice. She knew that Nicole wasn’t necessarily on a diet or anything, but being a dedicated student-athlete, she rarely ever allowed herself to eat junk food, especially not before game days.
“I find it adorable that you worry about me, but trust me, we’ve got this in the bag. We’ve beaten Silas High so many times.”
“Cocky now, aren’t we?” Waverly teased with an amused smile.
“It’s not cocky if it’s true.” Nicole shrugged and earned herself a playful shove from the brunette.
Like a self-fulfilling prophecy, Purgatory High’s Blue Devils were torching Silas High’s Anglers. The waves of blue in the bleachers were going wild over their own Haught Shot managing to dodge nearly every opponent who had come for her, and scoring or assisting to score multiple goals. Waverly, herself, was probably one of the loudest in the crowd, supporting both her sister and her girlfriend.
Although, she couldn’t help but want to be all alone watching Nicole be the glorious hockey player she was. She knew it was illogical, considering that she was at a high school hockey game and a major point of it was to have a crowd cheering for their team, but if Waverly had it her way, she would be the sole audience member present just so she could profess to everyone how proud of her girlfriend she was. And as Waverly watched Nicole score one last goal before the horn announced the end of the game, all she wanted to do was kiss her superstar of a girlfriend in front of the whole school.
Waverly didn’t know what made her stand up and walk down the bleachers with intention. Whether it was the months of anticipation or the adrenaline that was coursing in her veins from watching her girlfriend crushing it on the ice, it didn’t matter. The only thing that mattered was that Waverly was now at the gate of the rink, having last-minute doubts.
She didn’t have much time to think about whether or not she was going to go through with her plan as Nicole caught sight of her and broke away from her teammates to skate towards her. Seeing the redhead take off her helmet as she reached her helped Waverly make up her mind.
“Hey—” Nicole started, but never got the end of that sentence out of her mouth as Waverly leaned up on her tippy toes to grab her face and captured Nicole’s lips with her own. She had a fleeting thought about how sweaty Nicole’s face was, but she didn’t care. Waverly was just wrapped up in a blanket of joy.
“Do you even know what subtle means?” Nicole’s voice carried no malice. She grinned and kept her eyes on Waverly, completely ignoring their classmates surrounding them.
“Subtlety is overrated,” Waverly replied before kissing her again.
By the time things wrapped up and a group of teens had invaded the Earp homestead at Wynonna’s after-game party, news had gotten around, and everyone knew about Nicole and Waverly’s relationship. Well, nearly everyone.
“I mean, it could be worse.” Wynonna shrugged. “My sister could be dating Haught Shot.” Mercedes stared at Wynonna with an exasperated expression.
“What?” The brunette tilted her head in confusion. Mercedes tried to communicate with her using only her face and somehow, a few seconds later, it was almost like there was a light bulb that turned on in Wynonna’s head. “Wait a minute! They’re dating, aren’t they?”
Glancing over to the bottom of the staircase, Wynonna could see Waverly sitting on one of the steps next to Nicole as they chatted with their noses almost touching. Instinctively, Wynonna wanted to warn Nicole to not break her sister’s heart. But she knew deep down that the junior would never do such a thing, and Wynonna was definitely too tired to come up with an intimidating speech anyway. So, as she observed the couple just a while longer, Wynonna decided that she wasn’t going to follow Waverly’s advice. If Haught was going to date her sister, Wynonna was going to annoy the hell out of Nicole.
