She's not sure if it is fortune or misfortune that she's usually around whenever Gale needs aid. She is of a more gentle touch and agreeable bedside manner, and she's patched up enough wounds to know how to calm even the most squeamish patient. But this is less than ideal conditions. The rain could do all the hard work of washing the wound clean but the blood could easily become soiled by the dirt and muck that surrounded them. Let alone these were not great conditions to patch him up in when visibility was so low. Her hood at least kept her sight mostly clear.

For a moment, she clicks her tongue and sends Inkblot on his way. The raven is clever, he can find shelter from this storm. It's too thick to travel all the way back to camp like this.

The frown would wear more clearly on her face were the skies not so black. No, there is little normal about how his wound bleeds. Even through the thick smell of rain in the atmosphere. It's nearly rancid smelling but she can't quite place it. It's not quite like rotted meat but something else, different. And thicker than blood should be. She's nearly grateful for her gloves as she examines how best to patch the wound. As it stands, it may be easier to bandage it, find shelter, and then sew it shut. The way the flesh frays and splits is too precarious to deal with in this weather.

A harsh swallow follows as she watches the black fluid spill from his wound. Fuck.

"Oh, I've stitched up worse before," not quite as thick with ichor, but she's dealt with a man who was nearly cleaved by an ettercap once. "We do have to see about you not being in such precarious situations, though." His magic is exact and effective, but up close he is vulnerable. Most are, but without even armor to protect him... "No, rest. I've sent Inkblot ahead to find us shelter from the storm. I'll bandage you now, but I can't even begin to stitch this shut until we're out of this storm." Already she can faintly make out the silhouette of her faithful companion flying back. The sounds of his calls seem hopeful. "I have a bottle in my pack I took from the tollhouse. Though, I'm not sure you should be drinking in this condition. But I will gladly take the company." She offers a soft smile as she begins to wrap some cloth around the wound, preparing to move him should Inkblot deliver the good news she hopes for. They could use a little mercy right about now.

The situation is, gingerly put, a whole temple away from pleasant. Rain, in torrents, crashes with a reckoning. His bandages, sodden, soak and drip. This is—well, to be quite frank about it, miserable, Gale admonishes. Still, laid among the larkspur, neck tickled with the brushing of spring-fat weeds, he wonders when comfort had last soothed their journey. Better yet, he questions when mercy will rear its head.

He squirms a touch, rain plinking along his brow. Never, with their fortune, would be their answer.

Dronia works. Hunched by his side, head bent, she studies his wound. Perhaps it's his delirium or the pain up his marrow, burrowing there like a bottled secret, but had her presence by his side been filled by another, he, Gale imagines, would be maggots and feed. He breathes as she mends him, that geysering wound sluicing hemorrhage up his ribs. Admittedly, it's uglier than the last, a gnoll's great claws having carved up his belly, and so close to the throbbing of his pulsing orb, there dithers a fragrance, some petrichor through storm and blood.

Gale groans. A bubble of black gushes up his gash then spills.

"I doubt we'll make it to the others tonight. Admittedly, I'm not all too—ah—proud having you see me like this. Once, as far as I'm concerned, is plenty enough already." More than. Hot and dreadful, trecherous shame, vigorous like a weed, plants itself firmly beneath his ribs. He raises an arm, endeavoring to conjure some paltry shade, and when all he manages is a flame that takes his palm, Gale, struggling, chases the cold. "It's hardly having you over some wine beside a roaring hearth and thrilling conversation," he swallows, "but we've scraped on by with less. As it were, I imagine the last bit is still quite doable. If I can offer nothing else tonight, I offer my company. I can think of far worse things to entertain."

Her “Other” Mate

Azriel’s bonus chapter has been discussed into oblivion, but we rarely give Feysand’s bonus much consideration. While there’s a wealth of fun to be had theorizing about Rhy’s family name and other threads that can be pulled, I’m always drawn to this portion. Rhys and Feyre discussing how there’s a side to Elain that we haven’t been privy to. Her decision not to use the enchanted gloves from Lucien, and how his choice in a gift reinforces how little he truly “sees” her. How she perhaps appreciates the act of getting her hands dirty in seeking her desired outcome.

But my FAVORITE moment is the little tease between Rhys and Feyre immediately following the tidbit about Elain and Lucien. Rhys telling Feyre jokingly that she must be thinking of her “other mate”. I don’t think that the juxtaposition of this joke with Feyre’s contemplation of Elain and Lucien’s tenuous bond is a coincidence, because what is my mind immediately drawn to while reading this? Feyre asking why a different male, one who truly sees Elain, isn’t her mate. Perhaps we will find that he’s her “other mate”. 🌸🗡️

Even funnier, taking offence at the term "bastard sword" is something I once heard for real. I've even seen it in censored form: "b*****d sword", and then of course there's Sky-TV's episode listing for "Game of Thrones":

"Bastard", though it CAN be an insult, isn't a swear-word but a perfectly legitimate description and was even an honourable title.

This gentleman, shown alongside his coat of arms, is Antoine, le Grand Bâtard de Bourgogne...

That translates to Anthony, the Great Bastard of Burgundy, a member of The Order of the Golden Fleece, fully recognised by his father Duke Phillip and with the right to carry the Ducal arms differenced with a bend sinister.

"Great" just means he was the most senior of the Duke's illegitimate offspring.

The modern circle-and-bar "prohibited" symbol is similar to bend sinister, though its bar is a bend dexter - top right to bottom left - perhaps to avoid confusion with with the diacritical mark used by some Scandinavian languages.

However I would NOT like to be the Support staffer trying to explain any of this to a dingbat customer... :-P

• Nilou, being a dancer herself, was super excited! She loved seeing other people dance. It gave her full happiness when she saw you come up on stage wearing a pretty costume. She watched every second of the show in awe. Candace, Dehya, and Kevah who were sitting next to her could see stars in her eyes as she watched your performance.

• She couldn't help it! She was enchanted watching you dance every single time! Sure, she could dance well.. but watching you dance was so much better. Your movements, Costume, even the way your hair was made her light up as she watched you. She happily ate the small snacks Dehya has snuck in for the small group.

• After your performance ended, she went straight up to you, leaving the others behind as she hugged you tightly. She spewed only kind words as she told you how great you looked and how pretty your dance was. Afterwards, she helped massage your feet from dancing. Even as you both fell asleep, she couldn't help but think about your dancing. She was truly mesmerized.

Him and Collei were sitting a good distance away to where they could see you properly, and they were snacking on the overpriced snacks that the place had sold as they watched you.

• As Collei was watching, she had turned to look at Tighnari, looking to see if he was paying attention.. only to find his tail wagging back and forth in the chair. His eyes were entirely on the stage. She gave him a (⁠ ͡⁠°⁠ ͜⁠ʖ⁠ ͡⁠°⁠) look before looking back at the stage with a huge smile on her face.

• After the performance, Tighnari was holding Collei's hand as they walked to where you were resting, taking off your shoes. He had saw a small bruise on your foot and once the three of you got home, he praised your performance as he massaged your feet and aided the bruise, his tail still wagging.

• When the performance had ended, they all went to go see you and afterwards, they spent the rest of the day going getting food and relaxing since he now had a few days of free time.

• He had decided that he would get you a custom costume and pair of shoes made for your next performances. Ayaka had helped him with it, finding accessories for you.

• After the performance, you were met with Xiao with a small Qingxin in hie hand. He shyly held it out to you before saying he liked your show, poofing into the greenish teal smoke and with that, he was gone. Only this time like the rest, his face was a bit pink.

• Zhongli is a big fan of performances and watching them, he always spent time watching Yunjin and some of the other traditional dancers perform so he was quite delighted to accept your invitation!

• Hutao has invited herself along since she haven't had any customers the whole day, the two of them had sat down and waited, Hutao had snuck food inside because both her and Zhongli aren't paying that much for the food they are selling (💀).

• They watched as you danced around gracefully, Hutao had thrown some of her snack at some people who wasn't paying attention in-front of them. And after the performance ended, Hutao shoved a Lily in your face with a big smile and Zhongli stood behind her, his hand about to grab her pigtail as he complemented the preformance.

• Now he's sitting on a bench with Nahida beside him as every was talking, waiting for the preformance to start (it wasn't really anything big, just a small outside performance for people to sit and watch) as he crossed his arms, slumped. He was cursing the small archon beside him who had to get a few cusions to even see, which he laughed at.

• Nahida had looked over to her side as the preformance was going on, she was met with Wanderer/Scaramouche with a tear rolling down his eye. Throughout the whole preformance, he could only think about the story his deceased friend had told him which he had called stupid. The nutcracker and ballerina. In that very seat, he felt like the nutcracker and he hated how he felt, but he couldn't resist watching you dance beautifully.

• After the preformance, Nahida and Scaramouche were holding hands (much to his dismay and embarrassment) as they walked to where you were sitting, massaging your feet. Scaramouche's eyes were slightly red but after whispering to Nahida she had told you that he liked the preformance, to which he denied, his face as red as his eyes.
