the cruel prince

whoo i just finished the folk of the air trilogy!! this has been on my tbr for ages and i bought the cruel prince back last november😳😳 i loved it so much it honestly exceeded my expectations.

character thoughts and possibly tiny spoilers:

jude duarte is the queen of queens i would crawl to her im in love with her i want her i want to be her she and cardan are so hot. fav fmc i’ve read to date i think. i love her ambition and her bravery and that she’s not trying to be some saint. she’s just some girl who decides that she’s gonna be powerful and then ends up the queen of faerie what an icon.

cardan greenbriar is also a queen i absolutely adore him and his little rat tail. he was such an ass at first i was a little confused why people love him but yeah he delivered. “come home and break my heart if you must. just come home” babyyy. i love how he and jude are terrified of each other but neither of them realize how scary they are. i just love them both.

surprising favorite of mine is madoc. (daddy issues over here) but like he was lowkey not the worst father especially for them to not even be his blood kids. he taught jude pretty much all of what she knew about swordplay and military strategy and ruthlessness. i think he was a little bit proud of her in the end for winning.

taryn… this is a hard one. she did some shitty things for sure. the locke stunt was just petty and low and despicable and then siding with madoc over her sister who literally did everything ever for her… yeah i’m not making the best case but i can’t hate her because i see a bit of myself in her i fear. and also she did kill locke so points for that!

locke doesn’t even deserve my thoughts he’s a fuckass rat and i would expect no less from a man.

i’m strangely attached to nicasia. my girl was lonely and cardan was like her only friend. she genuinely did care about him a lot and in the end i think she would have rathered see him alive and happy with jude even though she didn’t love jude than have him unhappy or dead or a snake. idk i think she had a bit of a redemption at least for me.

i’m pretty neutral on vivi and heather like i like them but they just didn’t really do much for me.

i feel like i’m possibly forgetting someone important but it’s late and i’m tired and those are the last coherent thoughts im gonna find in my head. so yeah i loved the folk of the air books i totally recommend!

thinking about how percy jackson is one of the best and most strongly moral led characters i’ve ever read. like he didn’t care about pissing off the gods he thought they were shitty and wanted them to know it. he could’ve asked them for anything and all he wanted was for them to be better parents. he could’ve had immortality but he turned it down partially for annabeth. he also took the weight of the sky from artemis. he also tumbled into tartarus for annabeth. and he literally went through hell to get his mother back. idk i’ve just been reflecting and rereading some of my childhood books and percy was just really a good stand up guy. (maybe part of the reason why my standards are too high lmao)
