Hmm... headcanon that Roger previously worked as a mechanic at a small and relatively low profile shop in Monstropolis (before ultimately finding out about the open position in MI's MIFT team.)

It was a much more modest job but it still sort of scratched that itch of working alongside machinery, etc. & helping others.

(There was definitely a bin in the corner of the garage for old discarded bolts and tools or other little metal things and Roger definitely would occasionally sneak something out between tasks or on his breaks to gnaw on.)

I've sur'd the names... haha...

Take any and all meanings with a grain of salt. I cannot guarentee how accurate behindthename.com is, especially with any names that were user submitted. This also isn't confirming ethnicities or religions headcanons for any of the characters - all surnames were picked due to their meanings rather than trying to designate things like that. They probably don't even flow together the best. Oh well. These are all subject to change, especially if I find out that any of them have bad connotations that I was unaware of.

I scheduled this post - so hopefully later on I type up the mascot information for Magical Warrior AU, and go and decide on + add character tags at the very least, maybe ship names and tags too... Flippy/Fliqpy Blair - Okay, this one does kind of have a secondary meaning - it sounds like bear. It is of Scottish origin and the listed meaning is 'from any one of several places of this name in Scotland, which derive from Gaelic blàr meaning "plain, field, battlefield".'

Lifty and Shifty Steele - Another double meaning. I wanted a name that meant something along the lines of metal or shadows. I couldn't find anything with gold, silver, or copper that I liked for them, and well... Steele sounds like steal. Splendid and Splendont Astra - Do aliens have surnames? Regardless, I went with a space / celestial theme. And cheated a little. Astra is on the given name site, but I think it sounds cool and it's my silly little fic so I do what I want. It's listed as a rare name of English origin, with the meaning of 'Means "star", ultimately from Greek ἀστήρ (aster). This name has only been (rarely) used since the 20th century.'

Shiver and Spice Smith - For their civilian surname I went the easy way out and chose Very Common Surname. The most common, according to the website. It is of English origin and the listed meaning is 'Means "metalworker, blacksmith" from Old English smiþ, related to smitan "to smite, to hit". It is the most common surname in most of the English-speaking world. A famous bearer was the Scottish economist Adam Smith (1723-1790).'

Pop and Cub Orsini - I considered just goving them the surname Berenstain because I thought it'd be funny. Then I saw Orsini and remembered I used it as a surname for a bear faunus RWBY OC once. She might've had a brother too, it was a long time ago. It's of Italian origin, and the listed meaning is 'From a nickname meaning "little bear" in Italian, from Latin ursus "bear".'

Cuddles Lachance - I ran out of ideas for meanings at this point. Rabbit's feet are meant to be lucky, right? Not that he gets very lucky considering the universe he lives in. It's of French origin and the listed meaning is 'Means "chance, luck" in French, a nickname for a lucky person.'

Giggles Blythe - Happy surname for her (I also just like the name Blythe, and I need to use it as an OC name one day). It's of English origin and the listed meaning is 'From Old English meaning "happy, joyous, blithe".'

Toothy Tremblay - Toothy, Toothy, Toothy... He was so hard, and for what? I went to the T section and picked from there for alliteration. It's of French origin and the listed meaning is 'From French tremble meaning "aspen". It is especially widespread in Quebec, being the most common surname there.'

Petunia Meadows - This popped into my head immediately when I thought of her. It's of English origin and the listed meaning is 'Referred to one who lived in a meadow, from Old English mædwe.'

Handy Nagel - I learned there is such thing as a nailsmith. Hm. It's of German and Dutch origin and the listed meaning is 'Means "nail" in German and Dutch, an occupational name for a carpenter or nailsmith.'

Mole Durand - Similar to Mime, 'The Mole' might just be a nickname but I'm too lazy to find a first name. 'What should we name our son?' 'How about The Mole?' 'Honey, you're a genius.' Anakin has two options. The first is Anakin going to Padme to be with her and feel safe and loved. And the second, which is more frequent, when Padme is unavailable - he fixes things. He repairs his fighter and helps repair his men's fighters. Sometimes he repairs his mechanical arm or random droids. This will really calm him down.

There is the version where the reason, in-universe, why there was previously no hint whatsoever of Waternoose having a son is that he simply wasn’t proud of Roger.

With as sensitive and benevolent as Roger is, I tend to imagine that he was never really into the idea of scaring children (even human ones), much less for profit. Maybe it’s even the case that part of the reason he got so into the more technical, less social and more unseen functions of the facility was because it allowed him to express enthusiasm in being involved in his father's company (from which, of course, a genuine love and passion for those things was deeply developed within Roger) whilst generally avoiding the Scare Floor/Scarers for the most part. And Waternoose, with as vehemently devoted as he was to the company’s success, and utilizing scare energy to a level of near obsession, his sweet, sensitive son’s blatant lack of interest in that line of work was quite disappointing.

Not a man who, by any means, ever likes to entertain the idea of backing down from his beliefs, perhaps he saw to it that Roger was gradually sort of pushed away from the facility and the company altogether (and Roger, for his own reasons, wasn't really entirely opposed to creating this distance). As I figure, although still living somewhere in Monstropolis between MI an MAW, Roger presumably never came anywhere near Monsters Inc. until well after they had retired any use of scare energy in favor of laugh energy.

And maybe it was easier, for the sake of Waternoose’s pride and his company’s reputation, to pretty much pretend that Roger didn’t even exist away from home. Hell, by the logic I’m applying in this post, the company was clearly a higher priority to Waternoose than even his own family. Who he seemingly was comfortably willing to sacrifice maintaining good relationships with in favor of the company's success.

But, I think it’s worth also noting, whether Waternoose's actions had malicious intent, exactly, is sort of debatable because it was very much the case that, in his own mind, he was valiantly fighting to keep his beloved company afloat. As opposed to, say, Randall who generally was quite malicious, and most of his actions were largely fueled by spite and jealousy and bitter, deep-seated grudges.

I wish my side blog could do ask without anonymous but I know a smidge about raspberry mousse, although this is more a hc for one.

One idea is that the raspberry houses poodle loves to watch out for raspberry mousse to keep him out of any issues. He's adventurous so she likes to bring him to the garden to play. (I think it's a female poodle??)

I also have this hc that bonbon even though she's friendly with a of cookies. The trust is kinda like her friendships over time. So with her being like the only person on raspberry's chart he trust (minus rose but that's a whole thing yk) he might talk to her to get comfy cloths for his regression cause "where else do you get his cloths?" And shes delighted Everytime despite expectations cause it's a fun change of pace.

Much like his dad, Marshall is skilled at building and putting things together. When he was a kid, he only needed to be shown how to do a thing once or twice, and as he got older, he began to just intuitively know how to put something together. While he has a knack for carpentry like his dad, Marshall's interest lies almost exclusively in mechanics. He loves working on engines of all sorts, and has even been known to do work for his mom on the household appliances.

Oh I really wished Rift Apart had only show us more for a very clear explanation especially on the true timeline.😩

So something occured to me today.

Into the nexus and rift apart have a like 8 year gap between. So it’s not impossible that Talwyn and Ratchet got married in that time.

And There is nothing in Ratchet and clank: Rift Apart, which actively disproves this.
