Awww, thank you so much Zach, the fact that your mother’s a florist (in my AU at least) makes this a common occurrence, but it’s always a welcomed treat! I love them so much, and I love you so much…you are my world, thank you for making each of my days brighter 🥹.

To the anon who sent this on behalf of Zach, thank you. I know it came in last year….like April of last year 😅. I purposely waited until now to post it because as soon as it came in I had a scene entire my mind that I just couldn’t shake…I had to write it. And I did, on paper, but I couldn’t find the courage to post it until now.

I’m very vague in what the scene is about, but it’s super emotional for me and Zach. If you figure out the context, well you figure it out! I won’t be upset if you ask about it or anything, I just feel like it needs to be vague, at least for now.

Special Flower Delivery

I awoke early the next morning, blinking my eyes against the sun pouring through the blinds of the stark white hospital room. I rolled over in the bed to escape the blinding light. I felt sick and sore and miserable, and that was just physically. Mentally it was worse, so much worse.

I started crying again, it had not happened, it couldn’t have happened. Within a second he was scrunching himself into the narrow hospital bed beside me, his arms encircling me from behind as he told me everything was going to be okay. 

“Shhh, I’m here, I’m not leaving, I’m here, I’m here; it’s gonna be okay,” Zach whispered against the nape of my neck. 

“How is it going to be okay? IT’S OVER!” I sobbed louder, turning to him and seeking refuge in his arms. Without thinking I balled my hands into fits and hit them against his chest while screaming at the top of my lungs. It was a miracle the nurses didn’t come running to shut me up with another sedative. 

Zach did not complain from my violent outburst, but a small sound of distress escaped his lips after my assault against his chest had continued for a few minutes. 

I quickly stopped and took a few deep breaths to calm myself, “I’m so sorry, Zach. I didn’t mean to hit you…”

Zach gently stroked my cheek, “I don’t care about that, I only care about you and how you’re feeling…and I know you’re hurting, so the screaming and crying and whatever doesn’t bother me.”

He kissed my forehead and pulled me close to him. The soothing sound of his breathing and heartbeat soon lulled me back to sleep. 

When I awoke again and started to stir, I heard Zach mumble something to the Zachbot that had remained in the corner of the room ever since…it happened. The Zachbot quickly exited the room, having followed Zach’s command. 

“Zach? What’s going on?” I mumbled. 

“I have a surprise for my little flower,” he replied in a sing-a-song voice. 

I shook my head and gave a small snort before the Zachbot reentered the room. I turned my head to see the Zachbot holding a bouquet of beautifully arranged white and lilac flowers of all varieties. 

Zach helped me sit up in bed, and the Zachbot deposited the fabulous flowers into Zach’s awaiting grasp, which he in turn handed to me with a bow. I gave him a weak smile and thanked him as I fingered the petals, tears leaking from my eyes yet again. 

Zach hovered over me, giving me a weak smile that surely matched my own, tears flowing down his own face as well, “special flower delivery to my beautiful, amazing, strong, confident, and perfect wife. I love you, Vi, and I promise you we’re gonna get through this…together.”

I hope you all enjoyed it. Again if you have questions it’s okay to ask. I’m slowly getting back into writing, so hopefully there’s more to come very soon!

Idk if anyone else has heard this but I was once told that if someone were to give you flowers, you can tell how good the intent was and the energy they have towards you by how long the flowers stay alive. And honestly, I believe that because I’ve seenit. I’ve been given flowers by someone who loves me so much, and every time the flowers stay alive for weeks… While there have been other times in the past where I’ve received a bouquet and the flowers died within a day or two. I’m not saying that the person who have me the flowers’ intent was malicious. But I do think flowers pick up energy in a way.

The point I’m trying to make is that everytime I’ve received flowers from this special person, the flowers stay alive for weeks to a month. It’s just heartwarming. 🥹🌸🌺🌼🌷

The sad man comes in about once a month.

Joe wonders if he should have asked for his name the first couple of times, but he never got around to it; now he thinks it would just be odd to say anything at all. Plus, the man always pays in cash, so Joe gets the feeling he wouldn’t tell him the truth anyway.

The man didn’t really breathe a word the first time he set foot into Joe’s small shop, tucked away just a few blocks from one of London’s busy underground stations. He merely nodded when Joe welcomed him, and since Joe is good at telling when people don’t want his help, he watched in silence from behind the counter as the man stared at a vase filled with orange lilies for a whole five minutes. His profile was very deep and very serious, before he abruptly turned to the stand next to him and grabbed one of the bouquets Joe had assembled just that morning.

It was made mostly of protea flowers and green leafy plants. It was rustic looking and had its charm, or at least Joe likes to think it did. The man paid for it with two twenty-pound notes and walked away as Joe turned to the till to grab his change. He wasn’t fast enough though and could only sigh as he watched the door close behind the man’s broad back. Joe didn’t even get a good look at the man’s face.

The second time, the sad man arrived just five minutes before closing.

Mother’s Day was always busier than he and Nile could handle, and Joe’s arms and back felt sore after spending too many hours unloading boxes upon boxes of tulips and pastel roses. He had been daydreaming the whole day about his bathtub and some nice Thai food when the little bell at the door rang, announcing the arrival of a new client. Joe couldn’t help feeling a little miffed at that sound then, but he immediately forgot all about his bitterness when he looked over the counter and saw who was there.

The man looked sad still. There were deep shadows under his eyes, and Joe finally noticed how big and bright those eyes were. Joe felt he could lose himself in them. Not in a nice, romantic way, no. The man’s eyes looked like two pools of tears, one drop away from overflowing. Joe wondered if they would spill if he so much as blinked.

He looked down at the man’s hands on the counter. They were big as well but looked very soft, and Joe fought the urge to take them between his own to find out.

“Hello, I’m Joe,” he said unnecessarily and pointed to the sign behind the counter: Joe’s Joyful Bouquets was hand-written in a nice cursive font, and Joe was really proud of the flowers he had drawn all around it. “How can I help?”

“Sorry,” the man said, his voice heavy with an accent Joe couldn’t immediately place.

He wondered if the man could be faking it, but he couldn’t think of a good reason why. This was London, after all. They were all immigrants there. Then the man pointed to the second set of writing just beneath the sign, announcing their working hours. He frowned deeply. It made the shadows under his eyes look sharper. “It seems I’m late.”

“Oh, that’s fine,” Joe said before he could stop himself. “Why don’t you tell me what you are looking for– maybe I can help you? No reason to stare at my lilies for ages just to pick something else.”

The man blinked, then half-smiled. “You remember.”

My first foray into fluff. I've had a lot of fun with this one. So much so that it became 5 6 chapters. 😄

This fills my square for Flower Shop AU, as part of @chenfordsource's Chenford Bingo 2021

Summary: She remembered the first day he came into her flower shop—the handsome man with sad eyes who had an affection for dahlias. And how she noticed that as his eyes zeroed in on what he was there for, for the briefest of moments, the sadness in his eyes was replaced with a glimmer of happiness. His small, ephemeral smile as he focused on the bouquet in his hands tugged on her heartstrings. It was clear to her that he held an emotional attachment to those particular flowers. 

Tim remembered her from every time before too, but he had been in too much of a fog to really notice her. She had been at the periphery of his mind, his focus on those days was on finding his mother’s favorite flowers and visiting her grave. But now, in that moment, his focus was on the woman standing in front of him and the kindness she had shown him.

He barely acknowledged her, obviously occupied in thought as he efficiently moved through the displays, searching through the pre-made bouquets and single stems the shop offered. And as his eyes zeroed in on what he must have been there for, she noticed that, for the briefest of moments, the sadness in his eyes was replaced with a glimmer of happiness.

“Did you find everything you were looking for?” Lucy asked as he walked up to the counter.

The man with vivid blue eyes looked at her, his voice quiet when he answered, “Yes. Thank you.”

Terse, but polite, she thought, as she rang up his purchase.

“I’m glad. Dahlias are so beautiful, but not all the shops around here carry them.”

His small, ephemeral smile as he focused on the bouquet in his hands tugged on her heartstrings. It was clear to her that he held an emotional attachment to those particular flowers.

“Take care.” She offered a gentle smile, and his expression softened once more when he replied, “Thanks. You too.”

Lucy had a knack for remembering all of her customers. Her friend and business partner, Jackson, liked to joke that with her eye for detail, she would have been a good police officer. (He would know. He came from a family of police officers.) And she remembered the handsome man with sad eyes who had an affection for dahlias and came into her shop every year on the same day. She remembered the laugh lines on his face when he looked at the dahlias and a certain, cherished memory made him smile for just a moment. She remembered that he pulled his money from a clip at the small of his back instead of from a wallet. And the third time he came into her shop, she noticed that he was no longer wearing his wedding ring, causing her to wonder if his wife was the one he was mourning.

Lucy got a late start to her workday, walking through the front door of her shop after finishing a dentist appointment.

“Good morning, Jackson,” Lucy cheered as she tied on her apron. “How’s the day going?”

“A little slower than usual, but I’m not complaining. It gave me more time to—”

Her eyes glanced over their inventory list.

“Oh, no no no.”

“Lucy?”

“Shit, we’re out of dahlias.”

“Yeah, and button mums, and waxflowers, and…”

“I need to call Nolan’s right away. They owe us one.”

“Lucy? What’s going on?”

Lucy mouthed “just a sec” as the number she dialed began to ring. Jackson could hear the man on the other end of the line answer, “What in Carnation. This is John. How can I brighten your day?”

“Hey, John. It’s Lucy. I’m in need of some dahlias and I need them as soon as possible. Any color, really. But in the pink family if you’ve got it. Yeah, of course I’ll hold. Thank you.”

She looked over at an expectant Jackson and covered the bottom of her phone with her hand. “One of our regulars. He comes in on this day every year and buys a bouquet of dahlias. He’s never said as much, but I get the feeling they’re for a deceased loved one. And I don’t have the heart to tell him we don’t have them.”

Lucy moved her hand when she heard John come back on the line. “You do?!” She grinned at Jackson, but her face fell a second later. “Oh no. You’re sure Smitty can’t squeeze us in between deliveries? No, Tamara’s off today for exams.” She nodded as she listened. “Okay. You know what?” Lucy looked at Jackson, who was already nodding and passing her the keys she had set on the counter. “I’m going to come get them myself. I’ll be there ASAP. Leaving right now,” she said, shooting Jackson a look of gratitude.

“Go on. Go save the day,” Jackson said with a nod towards the door.

“Thank you, Jackson!” Lucy called over her shoulder.
