DP x DC: obsession ramble

It’s not that I dislike obsessions, but I’d like to actually see them actually used more

The word obsession means: “an idea or thought that continually preoccupies or intrudes on a person’s mind”

It has connotations of compulsivity and a loss of control

So if I’m told X character is obsessed with y, then I’m not actually shown the character being obsessed, it just feels… unsatisfying?

And a lot of the time we get told about it and then it’s never addressed again, or it gets treated more akin to a special interest

It’s Chekhov’s gun remaining unfired

Which is a shame because the works that do actually show the obsessive element of an obsession it feels like setup and payoff. It’s really cool and an interesting way to examine a character

And I get that takes extra work and isn’t always the story you want to tell, but it’s significantly less cool when it’s arbitrarily lumped in. It’s not a be all end all if it’s included and nothing is done with it, but it’s a bit like a nail not quite hammered into place: sticks out a bit and occasionally tears a small hole in your sweater(story)

Def not saying not to use it, but just food for thought on ways to use it I guess, or a way. Idk man I’ve definitely been overthinking this but people overthink every aspect of writing and tropes so that don’t make me special just sleep deprived

Is Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury the first anime series to depict a married same-sex couple?

Given the rings and comments from the staff (excluding Bandai) it's pretty clear that both Suletta and Miorine are married. And looking at older anime couples I can't find another one where the characters are actually married to one another.

There are series that depict engagements and proposals (implied or otherwise with queer characters).

Some examples would be:

Yuri & Viktor from Yuri on Ice, where it's implied that they want to be engaged.

Ranma & Akane from Ranma 1/2, both find themselves in an arranged engagement but end up falling for each other anyway. Ranma is canonically genderfluid in both the anime and manga and Akane is attracted to Ranma as both a man and a woman. And this is ignoring all of Ranma's other fiances who know about their curse and want to be in a relationship with them anyway.

Utena & Anthy from Revolutionary Girl Utena, while the circumstances of their engagement are out of their control, the two of them fall deeply in love with one another despite that. And in the movie they kiss.

Other LGBT anime couples are together or in love but next explicitly depicted as engaged or married would be:

Michiru Tenou & Haruka Kaiou from Sailor Moon, they are very much together and in the Crystal series end up living together and adopting a baby.

Yukito Tsukishiro & Touya Kinomoto from Cardcaptor Sakura, who are in love with one another.

Eiji Okumura & Ash Lynx from Banana Fish, who are in love with one another. And it hurts.

Yuu Koito & Touko Nanami from Bloom Into You, who are two girls who fall in love with one another. And in the story you watch them grow and get closer.

Nezumi & Shion from No. 6, a sci-fi drama where two boys fall in love. This one also hurts.

And countless other examples, none of which I could find have the characters taking their relationship further than dating or engagement.

So, is Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury the first married same-sex couple in anime?

On a minor note, there have been several gay weddings depicted in manga.

Some examples would be:

Our Dreams At Dusk by Yuhki Kamatani, which was written by an asexual, X-gender author.

Until I Meet My Husband by Ryousuke Nanasaki and illustrated by Yoshi Tsukizuki. This manga was written by a gay man and based on his own essays about his life. The manga is auto-biographical.

I Married My Best Friend To Shut My Parents Up by Kodama Naoko, who has written several other LGBT manga, most of which are Yuri.

And there are several more!

i have so many thoughts about an Ahsoka and Obi-Wan age swap, but a some of the key aspects of their story stay the same.

Anakin being Obi-Wan’s master, but Obi-Wan is still the one to confront him on Mustafar. him getting knighted in every timeline based on killing a Sith but this time instead of killing the Sith that killed his master, the Sith would be his Master- Anakin after he fell.

Obi-Wan spearheading the rebellion.

Ahsoka being on the council and STILL getting arrested for something she didn’t do. her leaving the Order because people who she’s known her whole life and worked with turned their back on her even though she was one of them

her escaping Order 66 and thinking Obi-Wan- her grandpadawan with the snarky remarks and the terrible mood and a bright future- was dead and then finding out he’s not dead but it’s maybe worse what he went through. at the hands of her padawan

AT THE HANDS OF ANAKIN. WHO SHE ALWAYS THOUGHT WAS THE ONE GOOD THING THAT CAME OUT OF HER JOINING THE JEDI.

Cody being a young clone who’s first mission is when Order 66 comes through, but his chip died when he got the head injury that gave him his scar which means he’s the only one that doesn’t turn on Obi-Wan.

neither of them know what happened except that they’ve lost their families and can’t trust anyone but each other.

Rex being Cody’s older brother. picked him up off the ground when he got the head wound and followed him through to recovery… and then to find out Cody’s with Obi-Wan, Cody saved Obi-Wan…

hey babblong, any neat hobbies or interests? you seem like you would do some pretty cool stuff to keep you entertained :-)

Hiya! And I would say I have a few interesting hobbies! I may not look it, but sewing always been an interest of mine. There's something pretty neat with being able to make things outta fabric or scraps, y'know? I'll let you in on a little secret; I make the teddy bears you can usually find me near!

Other than that, I do stand-up! Usually the weekends or during karaoke nights as DJKJ's club. You'd think that I'd do karaoke at a karaoke night, but I always fall back into my comedy routine! Speakin' of routine, there's also baking with a friend of mine every Friday or so. Pretty fun—when you know how to follow the directions, at least. So many failed brownies...

Here’s a vague size comparison thing for all of them. And a human for perspective

I really, desperately want to make an illustrated guide to my merfolk lore, because it’s extensive and I’m really proud of it. But that sounds slightly overwhelming, so idk, but here are some random scraps that pertain to these four. My fish mers aren’t allowed to have hair; they have a variety of different fins on their head to mimic it instead. Oviparous fish (e.g. remora) lay their eggs and their mer counterparts do likewise, and therefore don’t have nipples and/or breasts. Eggs of ovoviviparous fish (e.g. manta ray) hatch shortly before giving birth and do not consume anything resembling milk, so their mer counterparts do not have nipples and/or breasts. Viviparous fish (e.g. lemon shark) essentially nurse when in the womb, so their mer counterparts nurse after having given birth and have nipples and/or breasts. Mammals (e.g. monk seal) are self explanatory.

Also most animals hatch or are born with navels, because even in eggs, there’s a cord from the embryo to the yolk sack. Oviparous and ovoviviparous creatures just tend to be better at healing the scar. However, I’ve decided that mers are not as good at healing the scar, and thus, have bellybuttons.

WHEEEEEE ETHNICITIES POST PART 1!!!!!!! COS I GOT NO CLUE HOW 2 GO ABOUT CULTURES N SHIT!!!!! LOL!!

OK SO ive FINALLY finished the 5 main colour variations (& overall morphology) for angels!!! posting these separate from the culture post cos i still have fuckall idea for that(plus theres already a fair few images in this post if i tried combining the 2 i would have..... a long ass post lol) ANYWAY:

SALT DESERT: least populous of the 5. theyre essentially tundra angels but w thicker skin & MUCH paler. built to handle extreme temperature variation as well as VERY STRONG air currents & high altitudes. body type is typically tall & skinny, with long wings & sail. theyre 3rd best in terms of long-distance flight.

TUNDRA: most populous of the 5. theyre the goldilocks in terms of preffered climate, in that they stick to the tundras & savannas of homeworld(not too hot/cold, average wind speed, etc). body types vary, but theyre usually on the leaner side for aerodynamics, with long wings & sail. 2nd best at long-distance flight.

CENTRAL CLIFFS: 2nd most populous of the 5 & are built to survive the warmer temperatures of the equator throughout the year. body types are typically on the heavier side to help with burrowing & to accommodate for the much higher likelihood of getting domed by flying debris, as well as broad-but-short wings & sail. theyre 2nd worst at long-distance flight, as theyre more suited for climbing & gliding than powered flight.

NORTH/SOUTH COAST: 3rd most populous of the 5. coastal angels are the largest of the angel types, and are built to survive & navigate the seas & frozen coastlines of homeworld with ease. theyre the best at long-distance flight, as they often take regular journeys from the north to the south to ferry resources between both the coastal spheres as well as other spheres that might be up to trade. body types are usually TALL & WELL BUILT, with a long sail & wings.

TROPICS: 2nd least populous of the 5 as well as the shortest. theyre an offshoot of coastal angels who preffered to burrow amongst the more varied plantlife of angel homeworld. theyre the worst at flying, often only able to glide & fly in short bursts(similar to earth chickens) as theyre almost entirely suited to burrowing. the average body type for tropic angels is short & stocky, with short wings.
