    ✰ it’s time to wake up, THE DOCTOR, you’ve been in cryosleep for too long and the people of DOCTOR WHO miss you. when you went into slumber you were OVER TWO THOUSAND years old, your pronouns are THEY/SHE, and you VOLUNTEERED for the cambria program. now that you’ve awoken, your position as MAINTENANCE (at the observation deck) is waiting for you. remember, the cambria one thanks you!
the basics;
NAME: the doctor ALIAS(ES): john/jane smith, the oncoming storm, destroyer of worlds, the timeless child AGE: unknown/over two thousand years old PRONOUNS & GENDER: they/she + non-binary BIRTHDAY & ZODIAC: n/a FACECLAIM: jodie whittaker AESTHETICS: feet dangling over the vacuum of space, watching the nuclear energy of a star rage bright, enjoying every moment because no one can really control time, remembering every wrong deed in your repertoire, helping anyone without bias, finding ways around violence
a deeper look;
BACKGROUND: everything in the show is canon (however, i’m only familiar with new who) including the timeless child backstory (which will hopefully be cleared up in the upcoming special) WEAPONS: her sonic, a vortex manipulator, their mind POWERS/ABILITIES/SKILLS: regeneration, fixing things without a manual (even if it doesn't seem quite right at first) GREATEST STRENGTH: perseverance GREATEST WEAKNESS/FLAW: her companions ONE FEAR: that they may live long enough to become the villain ONE HOPE: that humanity is still good HEADCANON(S): the doctor is still uncertain about their past and doesn't know how to cope with it so they put all of their energy, more than ever, towards helping people
the questionnaire;
How does your character feel about being dropped into the cambria program? Are they excited? Suspicious? Confused?
elated! they'd signed up for a new adventure, a vacation of sorts, and they're thrilled to see people from so many different universes, planets, and times.
What does your character hope to see the most during the cambria one’s journey?
ideally everyone working together to create a new world, but more tangible, to enjoy the vastness of space without any real plan or mystery to solve.
If your character could bring one thing or person from home, what would it be?
their sonic screwdriver.

I know it's because they both have Issues TM but in retrospect it's a little bit funny that Donna is insecure about her place with The Doctor and wonders whether she deserves to travel the stars or is worthwhile as a friend while Ten is just sitting in the corner like "if I get separated from Donna I'm gonna explode the universe and then myself" and then he does.

I still find it funny that people call eleven a "deadbeat husband" and their marriage "toxic" but twelve is the "perfect husband" and their marriage "wedded bliss" all because of the few moments we'd seen between 11 and River were them being "toxic". yes of course! let's ignore how the minisodes show how that description isn't true and even how little moments in the episodes themselves – "what? that's it?" (why haven't you kissed me goodbye? are you being sly on purpose so I'd kiss you first?) and "they wouldn't bury my wife out here" and the music room is the heart of the home and it's not a ghost story, it's a love story – show 11 cared and put in the work and yes, they're going to have disagreements like the ones in TATM because duh who doesn't but it does not mean it is the entirety of their relationship but people have taken it and made it the entirety of their relationship.

Star Trek Voyager 5x11 - Latent Image
Seven: When you separated me from the Collective, I was an unknown risk to your crew, yet you kept me on board. You allowed me to evolve into an individual. Janeway: You're a human being. He's a hologram. Seven: And you allowed that hologram to evolve as well to exceed his original programming. And yet now you choose to abandon him. Janeway: Objection noted. Good night.

the thing about the eighth doctor is that hes that "most convincingly written liar and hypocrite ever" post taken to the extreme. nobody writing this guy talks to each other but they have a get out of jail free card because the man has holes in his brain. truly one of the guys. cant write him inconsistently if there was never any consistency as to who he is in the first place. by design

the enipul-p’mav system had always fascinated them. it wasn’t their first time there, yet every time still felt new. the smell of interplanetary foods transcended the sense, some of them evoking sights or even tingles in your brain. some of the fabrics around felt like the stars themselves. it was hard to hear yourself think with all the overbearing voices. “pardon, do you know what this... spice is used for?” to be honest, they weren’t entirely sure what it was, though it was almost as though its smell was tickling her nose hairs.

I actually find Donna and Shaun's marriage kind of fascinating and think there's a solid middle ground to be found between the "dead relationship, full of resentment and apathy" and "ideal couple, super in love" camps. I try to give hints of that in the stuff I've been working on (expect gratuitous use of that Shaun Temple is Tired tag), but I really want to explore it a little more deeply.
There are potential consequences from Donna suddenly being a package deal with her best friend and canonical love of her life but neither immediate divorce nor a seamless transition into an alternative relationship structure feel very likely (though there's no shame in using either or dealing with it off-page if it doesn't suit the fic). I just crave some more complex, nuanced takes on them adapting to the changes in or the dissolution of the marriage.
Plus, people are sleeping on the sheer drama of: you fell in love with an amazing but troubled woman and fifteen years later she unlocks memories that fundamentally changed her as a person, including the relationship with someone she wanted to stay with forever. Oh, and the two of them are inseparable again, so you've got a brand new member of the household.
I know we appreciate Shaun's ability to just roll with stuff, but it's a major change regardless of whether you prefer platonic or romantic DoctorDonna. Like Donna being herself in all her glory is gonna make or break that marriage, no matter where their existing relationship is at. And both options have the potential to be interesting. Do they not fit together anymore, no matter how happy for her Shaun might be, or, despite some growing pains, is it as good for their relationship as it is for Donna personally? Does having the memory issue and the financial stress solved allow frustrations in the relationship to heal? Or do they find they're not as securely bound together as they thought? I do think romcom jealousy is boring but suddenly watching someone else irrefutably bring out the happiest, best version of your spouse might bring up some complicated emotions.
As an aside, the parallels between Shaun and Lee also make me a little crazy. She picked another handsome, easy going, virtually silent man who seems to defer to her the vast majority of the time. Their kid has her last name. She sits at the head of the table like a queen holding court. I love it, anything else wouldn't feel right, but I just can't stop hearing, "What does that say about me?" "Everything."

[[ plotted starter for @lietwice
Garak was hiding something. For a month, he'd entirely disappeared, keeping himself out of sight, for all that he communicated normally through messages of various sorts. Julian was convinced that it was due to an injury he didn’t want to admit to. But now... Now he'd caught a couple glimpses of him looking well enough, but his messages were strained. Maybe he ought not have bothered with a friend so insistent on being secretive, but how could he not, when he knew no one else would?
So Julian made another house call, with the intention of overriding the lock this time if Garak didn't respond. But something saved him the trouble. A child's voice came through the thin wall, followed swiftly by Garak telling them to stop, and then the door slid open, and in front of Julian was a wide-eyed Cardassian boy who was looking up at him with something that looked very much like relief. "Abba!" And then he was being hugged, and then climbed, and he reached automatically to support the child, but he looked at Garak with mild panic as he did.

*An alarm suddenly starts to blare throughout the TARDIS's console room, a video of Helena, with her big curly blonde hair, and grey eyes pops up on one the screens*
This is The Daughter of The Doctor, I am calling for help. Here are my co-ordinates. Be careful. Please. Only come if you can, I just need picked up, vortex manipulator died on me. This is set to repeat until turned off or answered.
The doctor had been sitting there for what seemed like hours. Tapping his fingers across his chest and clicking his tongue to the beat of the music playing around the TARDIS, until he came to a sudden stop. Helena..Helena? That was a familiar name. The doctor was a familiar name too!
Ah. Wait. He was the doctor. Doctor..daughter..Helena, everything made sense now.
“Darling, tell her I’m on my way please? And turn that blasted alarm off..I can barely thing with how loud it is.” The TARDIS let out a little ‘beep’ and the alarm came to a stop. He put the coordinates in and simply waited. Any minute now he’d simply pick her up, and arrange for one of his future selves to come pick her up, it should be easy..or it sounded easy in his head.

Is it just me or does the phrase "dumb Darillium River" make your ears ring too?
That phrase hurts me like crazy because it takes away how the post-Manhattan events affected her so deeply. And now that we have the added knowledge that she gets to see her parents in New York even after Manhattan, THORS now presents itself in a different light.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
River's resounding "the Doctor does not and has never loved me" cements the implication that she and the Doctor had a huge row after Manhattan. What would you feel if the love of your life told you he "does not and has never loved" you? Certainly not happy.
Do you know what grief does to one's mind? No matter how brilliant you are, grief changes you. Grief makes you a different person. I would know, having experienced it myself. And River, in her grief, jumped into a headspace that shut out (or tried hard to) the Doctor.
Yes, she should have recognized it was him she had unknowingly dragged along on her space Robin Hood quest, but for her, it isn't him. It wouldn't be. Because that was the last thing she had heard him say.
Grief and pain clouding her mind, she proudly asserts that no, the Doctor isn't there. He won't show up for her. He has never loved her. But of course, she loves him. She's never denied that. But he proves her wrong soon afterwards. Because she is the Woman The Doctor Loves.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So, yes, on the surface level, "dumb Darillium River" seems to be what THORS had made River to be. But no, it wasn't. It isn't. It was about a grieving River and a chance for the Doctor to right his wrong. (And yes, we were robbed of that kiss. Homie here quite clearly wanted one.)
