the (not-so-quiet) sadness of the Tenth Doctor travelling on his own. given how his smile begins to fade when he's asked if a 'Mrs Smith' will be joining him, i wonder if the question made him think of Donna and how they often got mistaken for a couple.

The most tragic part of it all is that Donna was the perfect companion (in terms of like tailor-made compatibility, you have to at least admit she was one of the best for the Doctor, for his health, wellbeing, safety, etc) and yet he had such a short time with her. Imagine being so lonely and so ridden with grief and along comes this person who is just your absolute best friend, wants to stay with you forever, and then she’s gone so quickly. Donna was like a shooting star for the Doctor and I don’t think I’ll ever be over that

doctor who is the ultimate doomed by the narrative show. imo. the doctor always has to change & the companion always has to leave & nothing can be done about it! this change is necessitated by the narrative- it is the only way the story goes & it is the only way the story can go. no matter how many "i'll travel with you forever"s stand in its way.

heartbroken by this bit from the Doctor Who audiobook 'The Rising Night' where the rain reminds the Doctor of Donna
