what does ricky's family look like? outside of his mom and dad, who else in his family does he see often? aunts? uncles? cousins? does/did he have grandparents close by when he was growing up?

so we know ricky has an aunt who lives at least somewhat nearby from the show- whose name pluto brought back to my attention semi-recently is judy... but that's the only canon relation we get for him in the show beyond his parents, so ... i get my free reign here so here are some thoughts

so we learned that mike and lynne were high school sweethearts- (which explains her caution about ricky and nini) but they got together senior year, and admittedly, my thoughts are along the lines that they didn't both fully grow up there if that makes sense.

this is so far from your question, BUT- mike is the reason that the two settled down in salt lake and had/raised ricky there.

lynne grew up in a more standard american city (i say this because she has to have had more exposure to The World and see the potential of having MORE than salt lake and utah have to offer) (not chicago, given ricky's evidently never been there, or at least not that he can remember, given she offers to go see the bean) for much of her life, though more on the outskirts of it, before moving to salt lake halfway through high school when her dad got a new job. i'm almost thinking maybe they lived in arizona, like- phoenix or Maybe scottsdale, to keep them more in the west. lynne's parents, so ricky's maternal grandparents, potentially settled in cape cod or something along those lines like montauk or something, so there's more distance, but i'd also consider them being in scottsdale, arizona, making there a physical distance for sure, but also- it's potentially more Emotional Distance than real solid physical distance that would be truly troublesome to cover. lynne has two siblings, my thought is an older sister, and a younger one, but i kinda want to throw in an uncle, i haven't decided where. her older sibling ended up something of a disappointment to the family, leaving her parents to sort of have to help time after time. leaving lynne to want to Excel to the highest degree. feel good about herself and not be like the one her parents feel somewhat sorry for. it somewhat annoys her that ricky struggles in school since she doesn't feel like she had that option.

i've always thought that lynne came from money, in a way mike didn't so much. not like- rich rich, but- would call themselves upper middle class v much emphasis on the upper part not the middle part. raised the kids to work hard, hence the disappointment that the oldest just... gave up. her older sister has a job and everything, has a kid, ricky's oldest cousin, who he's met a handful of times, but lynne doesn't keep super in touch, and they live far away, so ricky doesn't see that part of his family often. his maternal grandparents he would see more often when he was younger, they'd come to visit when he was a kid, do easter together, that sort of thing. ricky's never really been outside of utah other than one trip to disneyland, and i'd say that trip was probably with his parents and lynne's parents, plus his younger aunt and her baby. (his younger aunt has two kids- both younger than ricky, a daughter, and i'll say a younger son, his cousins, and they're people he sees more often, but move away from salt lake later on, definitely before ricky hits high school). they make less of an effort to travel when he's older / things seem to get more complicated at home for lynne, especially when she starts travelling so much for work, and lynne feels like she did everything the right way, and well... especially as time passes... it drives her crazy that she did all the right things and her marriage still failed ... which- that upsets her parents too.

aunt judy is mike's older sister by a solid 7 or 8 years, and her kids are, as follows, older than ricky. she's the relative that lives closest for them, his parents live somewhat close to aunt judy so she can be near to help them out, and mike goes semi-regularly to help out too. judy's kids for ricky were the cool older cousins, and they were tasked with watching the 'kids' aka the younger kids like ricky, and- beyond that- his mom's younger sister's kids too when they were around. ricky enjoyed playing with the kids, and the big kids, but the older kids are in or out of college by the time he's in high school, and only around for breaks and holidays, and don't have as much space for the baby cousin ricky anymore, aside from maybe one of them who's the one who took him to the skatepark etc. growing up and still goes when he's home.

but ricky's seen a lot of people just- moving on and leaving in his life. for their own family reasons and growing up and college and real lives... but... it's something that sticks with him, and gets brought into what finally pulls the rug out from under him when he's 16...

i've got thoughts on mike's upbringing, but i don't wanna make this any longer than it is, and i already feel like i have stuff i could change in the paragraph or so about lynne's so i'm not gonna make further commitments in this post oops. but- ricky just- doesn't give me the vibes he has a lot of external/extended family really- Around... that he sees often... whether that's due to distance or lack of effort/lack of relationships... his parents and him are more insulated from that world...

With pride month on the horizon, let's talk characters and their sexualities and gender identities! While these are different, they're both part of the community, and it's important to discuss, especially when talking about those who are more marginalized.

Starting with canon characters!

Angel Dust - The way I write Angel is homosexual and demiromantic. Which means that he is attracted to men and does not form romantic attachments without first forming an emotional connection. I also write him as genderqueer, which means he's not entirely cis. He likes to play around with gender and gender expression, but doesn't necessarily have or want a different label, though he might figure something else out down the line.

Asmodeus - Ozzie is pansexual, demiromantic, and genderfluid. He is attracted to any and all genders, but again only forms romantic attachments with an emotional connection. This also means he's on the ace spectrum! And as far as his gender goes, while he frequently presents as male and mostly uses masculine pronouns, there are absolutely days where that is not the case. Sometimes he prefers to present more femme, and he might decide to use feminine pronouns that day. Or he might present more femme, while sticking with masculine pronouns. Another possibility is more androgynous, in both presentation and pronouns. The possibilities are honestly endless. He's just Ozzie, no matter what, and that's what's important.

Charlie - While she is bisexual and biromantic, Charlie is sapphic-leaning. Which means that she prefers partners who are not men. Because "bi" in her case does not mean "only men and women;" it is simply the label she is comfortable with, the one she vibes with.

Husk - While most people would judge him based on appearances and think he's straight, Husk is pansexual and demiromantic. It really doesn't matter what's in someone's pants, as far as he's concerned. Romantic relationships are a whole different story, and he's had far fewer of those, especially after ending up in Hell.

Lucifer - The King of Hell is pansexual and panromantic; he sees someone attractive and does the "oh no, they're hot" meme regardless of gender. He's also not entirely cis, but doesn't really have a label for that part of himself. Maybe he'll settle on one later, but for now, he's fine just being Lucifer.

Moxxie - This particular imp is bisexual, biromantic, and polyamorous! Moxxie is also demiboy, which means that, while he does vibe with the gender he was assigned at birth, there are times where he Does Not. He's exploring that part of himself, with support from Millie, and also through discovering different parts of himself within the terms of their ethical nonmonogamy.

Stolas - Prince Stolas of the Ars Goetia is homosexual and demiromantic. Which again means that he is only attracted to men, and does not form romantic attachments without an emotional connection. In his case, he also finds it difficult to be sexually attracted to someone without an emotional connection, which also puts him on the ace spectrum, both sexually and romantically. Additionally, though he has not had a chance to explore his gender on any level, really, that is something that will likely happen in the future.

Vortex - While Tex is probably the most cis muse on this list, he is definitely not the straightest. This hellhound is pansexual, panromantic, and polyamorous! He's had relationships with all sorts of people; he's chill as long as his partner is chill. Unlike Moxxie, he has had romantic relationships with multiple partners at once, as long as all parties involved are aware and amenable.

And now for my OCs!

Ardor - Another pansexual, panromantic, polyamorous muse! While he is pan, Ardor tends to be male-leaning. He's had multiple partners in the past, though his primary partner will always be Zeal.

Cain - Pansexual and demiromantic, Cain doesn't have much of a preference as far as partners go. He hasn't had that many romantic relationships, falling on the aromantic spectrum; he just hasn't really been interested, instead focusing his time on making sure Hell remains fed.

Echo - The definition of genderfluid. Echo's presentation is usually androgynous or masc-leaning, as they were AFAB in life. They're also pansexual and panromantic, which means that they're very much into just about anyone.

Johnny - While he didn't necessarily know the proper terms to describe himself when he was alive, Johnny is both bisexual and biromantic. Like Charlie, this just means that this is the label he prefers. He does tend to lean more into women, but he would be equally as happy with someone of any gender, as long as they treated him well and appreciated him properly.

I had a lot of fun doing this, originally we were going to make them of our current biggest headcanon (Fyodor BSD) but in the end we went for Yoshiko/Yohane because they're our OG system headcanon.

I'll talk a bit about this headcanon under the cut!

Background:

I think their system would have a name along the lines of 'the mirror collective', or possibly have a name linking to demonology. Their inner word is heavily fantasy based (like the world in Yohane the Parhelion).

Yoshiko's system has five members:

Yoshiko- The human and host, she's very shy and doesn't know how to communicate verbally. She deals with a lot of trauma around bullying and being pressured to be 'normal'. She's probably a trauma holder but has a system to be the host of, so she doesn't care about that rn.

Yohane (fallen angel)- The alter deemed 'the brave one', it takes the form of a fallen angel and speaks in a much deeper tone than Yoshiko. It uses it/it's pronouns and has a inner system relationship with Yoshiko. It has a human and non human form, and it's human form looks a bit like this magazine scan.

Yohane (the witch)- Takes the form of Yohane from the Yohane the Parhelion, she is like how Yohane was at the start of the series, bratty and conceited, but while she argues a lot with her system members, she does defend the system (see get them in trouble) if she sees them being hurt.

Lailaps- Is like the mother of the system. She takes the form of a large wolf and is an introject of a story book character they loved as a child. She takes on the motherly caregiver role, but struggles with being in a human body.

There's probably more (ie some syskids, at least one male alter, and a version of Hanamaru) but I'm sleepy so I focused on the main four alters.

what does ricky's morning routine look like? what is the first thing he does when he wakes up? does he have anything specific he has to do every morning? does he tend to shower in the morning or at night? what does his breakfast typically look like?

i think the first thing ricky does when he wakes up is grabs for his phone to text nini / see if she texted him. he always feels bad if he misses her messages. he's definitely got do not disturb on all night, and maybe even half the morning honestly... he doesn't want to feel pressured to be responsive when he's not feeling it. but she's the sole exception on that setting, with big red as a possible second... but he'd probably keep his phone fully on silent if he didn't have her to think about- he can be social, but he can also be very withdrawn, especially with everything going on for him at home.

he's probably more of a night shower person, just because if he goes and skates / etc. gets all sweaty, he doesn't like to feel gross going to bed, but also- perhaps more importantly... he really doesn't like having to get up early in the morning.

when he's a bit older and living with nini or living alone, verse dependent, taking care of himself, etc. he does fall into more of a routine and takes better care of himself, in part because he has to, and also, on a more positive note, gains more motivation to want to do so. his care for himself increases with his self esteem, as he breaks out of the depressive state.

as far as breakfast, it really does depend. when his mom was home, she did make a point of sitting down to breakfast/making something every morning. living with his dad, he's lucky if he has cereal. it's more likely to be an orange or something as he's running out the door. when he's on his own or with nini, it just depends on the day really. he comes to really enjoy cooking, especially when it's not just for himself. making pancakes or whatever it is.
