❝     yeah...     you     look     good,     too.     it's     a     nice     outfit.     even     if     the     skintight     costumes     are     nice,     too.     and     the     sweats...     there's     a     reason     i     keep     stealing     them.     ❞     she     says,     her     soft,     small     smile     remaining     on     her     face     as     she     returns     his     compliment.     it     feels     like     they're     in     their     own     little     world     right     now,     even     though     they're     surrounded     by     so     many     members     of     their     skating     club.     it's     always     felt     like     this     with     him.     ❝     yeah,     it's     really     nice     to     feel     close     to     them,     even     if     it     is     just     a     top     from     a     designer     who's     also     from     the     phillippines.     ❞     she     says,     shrugging     her     shoulders.     she     tenses     a     little     when     he     mentions     how     they     used     to     talk     about     skating     together.     she     missed     those     days.     ❝     those     recitals     were     so     fun,     when     we     all     go     to     switch     partners     or     do     a     group     skate.     when     we'd     get     to     skate     together     for     a     night.     ❞     tonight,     she     won't     say     anything     unkind     about     the     past.     those     memories     were     still     some     of     her     fondest.     she     could     indulge     in     the     thought     of     them     for     one     night.     she     can't     help     it.     bringing     up     the     past,     sharing     food,     it     feels     only     natural     to     lean     her     head     on     his     shoulder     as     they     talk.     they're     already     sitting     so     close     to     each     other,     in     their     own     little     world     as     they     try     not     to     draw     too     much     attention     to     themselves.

    ❝    good. that's good.    ❞    he really just- can't help but affirm it as she responds. he's really pleased, to see nini smiling at him like that. to hear her saying she's happy to be with him.    ❝    oh yeah- that sounds kinda perfect. do a little treat.    ❞    the popcorn is low calorie anyway, so... what's wrong with throwing some chocolate in with it. they have to enjoy their food too.    ❝    i'll look- and otherwise i know i have chocolate chips from when you made those cookies    ❞    all the while, they're staying in close contact, her hand rests over his and he smiles all the more. popcorn is popping, chocolate is pulled down from the other cabinet, and he's with nini. what more can he ever ask for?    ❝    this is nice.    ❞    said before he leans over to kiss her on the cheek, just soft and gentle. she's not the only one who wants to be closer.

❝     i     am     happy.     ❞     she     confirms,     giving     him     a     smile.     he's     made     it     clearer     and     clearer     what     he     wants     with     her     and     she's     starting     to     feel     like     maybe     she     could     give     him     that.     the     kiss     is     nice,     comforting.     it     feels     good     to     be     in     his     arms.     to     be     held     by     him     like     this.     she     chases     the     kiss     with     one     more     quick     peck     as     he     pulls     away     to     start     making     the     popcorn.     it's     nice     that     his     arm     is     still     around     her,     though.     that     he     wants     to     maintain     this     contact     with     her     as     much     as     she     wants     to     keep     it     with     him.          ❝     do     you     have     m&m's?     i     like     to     throw     them     in     the     bowl     with     the     popcorn     for     a     salty     and     sweet     mix,     and     so     it     makes     the     chocolate     all     gooey...     ❞     it     was     her     biggest     indulgence     when     she     was     trying     to     keep     up     with     her     healthy     eating     habits.     she     rests     a     hand     over     his     that's     on     her     hip,     seeking     more     contact.     he's     so     close,     but     she     still     wants     him     closer.

he smiles over at her as she speaks and squeezes her hand now that she's taken his. he's interested to see what she has to say.    ❝    if you want to- i think that sounds nice. i don't want you to feel any pressure to have to work or anything, but- if that's something that interests you, of course i'm all for it. you can do whatever you'd like. whether that's at the rink or if there's anything else you'd like to do.    ❞    she doesn't need his permission, really. he hopes she knows that. but- he sees the way she does sort of- want his approval generally speaking anyway. regardless of what he expects from her. he knows the way things are for her back home are so different.    ❝    i'm all good, my princess.    ❞    he beams at her, leaning over to peck her on the lips.    ❝    your cow slippers! that's adorable, nini.    ❞    he grins, looking at her with amusement as he turns to finally actually get moving. her music playing through the stereo, they've got a long drive ahead of them, but... she's perfect company. and he'd love to talk with her more, about this life and her other one.

❝     i'm     excited     just     to     see     what     we     drive     past.     nothing     has     to     be     overly     exciting     to     be     fun.     it     can     just     be     pretty.     ❞     she     says,     reaching     over     to     hold     his     hand.     it's     nice     that     they'll     get     to     have     this     time     together.     she     loves     just     getting     to     be     with     him.     ❝     i've     actually     been     thinking     about     that.     i     love     going     to     the     rink     with     you     and     reading     and     just     being     in     the     same     place     you     are,     but     i     was     wondering     if     they     needed     help     anywhere     at     the     rink?     perhaps     at     the     front     desk     or     in     the     daycare?     i     hate     that     i'm     not     pulling     my     weight     and     i'd     love     to     be     able     to     get     out     and     do     something     and     be     more     productive.     if     you     think     it's     a     good     idea,     that     is.     ❞     she     knew     he     had     a     lot     of     expenses     and     it     was     good     that     he     was     able     to     afford     his     apartment     and     the     groceries,     but     there     was     also     the     matter     of     his     skater's     apartment     and     her     bills.     the     phone     she     was     using     couldn't     be     cheap.     she     wanted     to     be     able     to     provide     for     herself,     or     at     the     very     least,     help     with     some     of     the     bills.     ❝     do     you     have     everything     you     need?     i'm     comfortable     and     cozy     right     here.     look,     i     even     grabbed     slippers.     ❞     she     says,     lifting     a     foot     to     show     him     that     she'd     kicked     off     the     booties     she'd     been     wearing     in     favor     of     the     little     cow     slippers     she'd     found     amongst     the     skater's     things.

having these conversations like this is really satisfying. the fact they're just- laying in their bed together, cuddling and talking about the way things have changed.    ❝    i'm sure you would've gotten there, but... i'm really glad we're getting to like- work through some of our shit together. and for the record nini- you were never an awful person. you were just upset. and rightfully so. but i am glad we both kinda- know what we know now. it feels so much better to have all the wondering gone. that we can just... enjoy being together.    ❞    and they really have been enjoying it. they got their kitten together, got engaged, won at worlds and then got gold at the olympics together... they're in a really great place in their lives now, as well as in their relationship. and how exciting their partnership and their relationship can evolve hand in hand.    ❝    we've made the best family together, my love. life's just gonna keep getting better    ❞    he tilts his head to press a kiss to her forehead, smile soft and warm. he's very tired, and it's hitting more and more now they're in bed.

    ❝    i'm happy to, nini, seriously. i want to take you.    ❞    he leans over and presses a kiss to her head, smiling at her as she settles into her seat. he'd known that a flight would be completely out of the question for his sweet princess. she simply wouldn't be able to handle something like that. so this was going to be a road trip. besides, the drive is less than a day. it really wouldn't be an issue for him.    ❝    and we'll stop and get lunch later too. or if you ever want to just stop and stretch your legs, you just let me know. i don't want you to be uncomfortable.    ❞    she's not used to being in a car like this. especially not such a long drive. he'd imagine a carriage is pretty different, if more bumpy than riding in the car. she's so sweet, wanting to make sure he doesn't mind taking her, but- he wants to. he wants her to see her family, and just- to do anything he can to make her happy.    ❝    i don't mind at all. it'll be fun. you can play some music from your phone or the radio, and we can talk, or you can have a nap, it'll be a good trip. besides, we get to see your family at the end, and i can take you to the beach, so that's gonna be really nice.    ❞    

❝     this     is     such     a     wonderful     thing     you're     doing     for     me,     my     love.     ❞     nini     says     as     she     slides     into     the     passenger     seat     of     the     car.     she's     gotten     used     to     the     car     over     the     past     few     weeks,     but     when     he'd     explained     airplanes     to     her,     she     was     completely     against     that.     so,     they     would     be     driving     to     see     her     family.     the     skater's     family.     he'd     even     gotten     her     some     things     to     make     the     trip     more     comfortable.     she     wouldn't     be     able     to     help     with     the     driving,     but     he     didn't     seem     to     care.     he'd     gotten     her     a     few     snacks,     a     water     bottle,     and     a     cozy     blanket.     he'd     said     it     was     called     being     a     passenger     princess,     and     she     thought     that     was     so     fitting.     ❝     are     you     sure     you     don't     mind     taking     such     a     long     trip?     ❞     she     buckled     the     seatbelt     and     pulled     her     blanket     over     her     lap,     settling     in     for     the     journey     ahead.     she     was     so     happy     that     at     the     end     of     their     drive,     she'd     get     to     see     her     moms.

the assumptions are stupid really. he knows cassie's been dealing with this since she popped up in the industry, people assuming she's dating any man she's seen out with. but for ricky it's incredibly frustrating too, especially knowing his girlfriend was in the studio they'd been walking into, talking to her best friend and stylist, kourtney, at the time the photos of him and cassie were taken.    ❝    this is ridiculous...    ❞    he sighs, running a hand through his hair. he knows nini won't take it to heart. she knows him. and she knows the exact circumstances of the conversation that was being had that had the smile on his face in the first place... but... he knows she hates the gossip too. and he feels quite bad for cassie as well, being put in this position.    ❝    i'm sorry they do this to you. it's not fair. for any of us, really, but... shit, cass...    ❞
