Are you looking to join this DPxDC server but don't know what it's about? Are you new to Discord and want to figure a few dynamics about it first? Then this is the post for you!

We're Super excited to share with you some of the features you can expect when you join the Haunting Heroes DPxDC Discord server.

🔷 I’m new to Discord. What is Discord?

A noble question. Discord is a messaging/private server application where you can join servers to chat, text, and video call people. Lots of fandoms have servers dedicated to their beloved show/book/comics/blorbos

It’s a popular platform because a) it’s free and b) it’s very easy to organize.

Haunting Heroes, as such, is essentially a private chat room where you can talk about DPxDC with other fans. There are other DPxDC servers, but you can never have too many!

🔷 What do you do on Haunting Heroes?

We do a lot! If you’re here, you may have seen the results of the Writing Games we’ve played, like "Who Wrote That?" as well as "Guess That Fic" (a fun way to give fic recs AND test your DPxDC fic knowledge!).

We also share updates of fanart, non fanart, and fan fics, as well as recommendations to stories we’ve read and enjoyed.

And we have plenty of ways to discuss ideas: from canon resources to headcanons that intrigue you; from prompts to workshopping your story ideas; from asking for a beta-reader to sharing your progress. Sometimes this even happens live while doing a sprint with others.

🔷 What does ‘18+ SFW’ mean?

18+ is fairly straightforward: you have to be 18 years or older to join our server. So why SFW?

We decided to emphasize the Safe For Work aspect not because no NSFW content is allowed—we have a flourishing NSFW category as well as a Dark Category with channels for people to talk about it to your hearts’ content! We welcome more mature content, but not everyone wants to engage in it, or only want to engage on their own terms. Being able to curate what you do and don't see is important to us, hence the separate categories (and having to self-select a role to see the NSFW + Dark channels)

We add SFW when talking about HH because ‘18+’ on its own has certain connotations (just like ‘adult content’ or ‘adults only’).

Why, then, are we an 18+ server? We appreciate the under 18s in our fandom, and there are lots of fandom places that are open to all ages (for example, this blog!). But there are older fans who feel more comfortable in an adult oriented space. We noted that a place for adults only in the DPxDC fandom was missing, and wanted to fill that niche.

🔷 Why Should I Join?

✏️ If you’re a writer, you can find a beta reader or ping the Ideas Helper role if you want some help with your story. You can find and share resources for various things, such as writing, art, and how to use A03.

🐱 We also share lots of pictures of our pets!

💡 We have fun emojis and stickers unique to Haunting Heroes, many made by people who are part of the server.

⭐️ We have a starboard! If someone says something you find funny, react to their post with a star emoji; if a post gets 9 stars, it gets shared to the board! It’s like the highlights reel at the end of a Mario Kart Race, but user generated. It's a good way to quickly know what's been going on in the server.

🐰 Our Bunny Hutch (AKA prompts sharing category) is always hopping. Enter at your own risk! You may go there with the intention of dropping off one prompt for someone else to adopt, and leave having adopted 4 new WIPS of your own!

And most importantly, we are a fandom community looking to share with each other the things we love doing or seeing in the fandom. You are likely to find writers, artists, and commenters you know from AO3 or Tumblr, but you might also find new friends to hang out with or be inspired by new things while lurking.

🔷 What can I expect upon joining?

☑️ Once you join, you will have to read our guidelines to make sure you agree with them and know what you can expect in terms of how we handle the server.

☑️ There are also roles to be selected so you can customize your experience. Some roles will allow you to give information to other members (such as the pronouns you select), others will give you an aesthetic (such as color roles), others are pingable and alert you for specific activities (such as movie nights ,or a new writing game being set up, or when someone wants others to bounce ideas). Some will also grant you access to specific sections in our server, such as dark or nsfw channels, which won't be visible otherwise.

☑️ Don't forget to also select the 18+ role which grants you acces to the whole server. This one is made specifically to confirm you agree with the guidelines and are 18 or older, since that's our sole requirement to join the server.

☑️ Once you define your roles, you can check our server roadmap to guide you through the many channels we have in the server with descriptions for each of them and the bots we have available to help through the experience.

☑️ Don't worry if you get a few pings upon entering: we have a welcome mat where others will greet you once you're in.

🔷 How can I join?

To join, send us an ask confirming you're 18+ and someone in our team will send you the link. You can find the ask box as "Ask us anything here" at the top of our blog or clicking here. AITA for lying about my age to make some new friends?

I (17nb) recently joined a new fandom. I did the usual procedure of finding popular artists and writers, following them, and consuming their content while falling down the famous rabbit-hole. Then I saw one of the artists I liked had a discord server. I joined it bc I saw it as a way to make new fandom friends, get fic recs etc etc

i joined the server and the carl-bot(?) message popped up and a few people waved to it, so it was all on a high-note. Then I checked the rules and saw that it was 18+ members only and anyone found to be below 18 would be kicked. This is where I worry i may be the asshole.

People were already greeting the small flux of new members in the chat (I had joined in a small wave of other new members) and they were all incredibly friendly. I suddenly felt very self-concious about the idea of immediately leaving so soon after joining so, when writing my introduction, I said I was 18.

At the time, it felt like a bit of a white lie - after all, I'm 17 and am oftentimes mistaken for being ~20 online. I don't have my age in any of my socials for internet safety and I've always behaved quite maturely for my age. 18 was the lowest number I could go, and many of my friends are 18, so I know i can at least be friends with other 18 yr-olds.

The issue comes with the fact there is an nsfw channel in the server. Now, I'm on the internet and heavily versed in fandom - i use ao3. I'm not going to cry over a discord server which has an nsfw channel, that's just stupid. The issue is, I am very aware that quite a lot of the members might be uncomfortable with the idea they've been making nsfw jokes or posting nsfw art where a minor can see, no matter how close to an adult that minor is.

I've been doing my best to 'minimalize' the damage - I rarely talk in the nsfw chat and keep quite strictly to the sfw channels instead. It gives me some sense of, idk, decency for what I'm doing.

I've been in the server for several months now and it's a really safe and fun environment - it's discourse-free and everyone is just really great to talk to. I really enjoy being a member. However, I am also aware I'm violating the rules and lying about my age. I fear leaving now, abruptly, might bring attention to me or upset some of the people who I often talk to on the server.

But it also feels like a very tiny offense - I'm not going around, 'disturbing the peace', and kicking up drama. I'm avoiding what I know they wouldn't be comfortable with me seeing and I stay friendly and mature within conversation

So, aita? Should I leave the server or would that just be a dramatic reaction for one white lie?

after holding several different conversations across a variety of platforms, i decided maybe it was time to try and make my own server! rare-pairs hold a special place in my heart. they don't often get as much love as some of the more popular ships and tropes, which can leave the creators feeling awfully lonely.

SO! i sought to remedy that! 🥰 together, we can find other niche creations and creators and give them all the hype they deserve! there are channels for bouncing ideas around, sharing fics and art, and plenty of space for general discussion/analyses. we also have an ao3 collection to flaunt all the fruits of our labor! 🍐💕

Help Needed - Fic Rec Volunteer

This blog has received some truly wonderful feedback, including that it is a useful resource, and I am desperate to keep it going.

As you may have noticed, though, posting has definitely trailed off a little bit! That is mainly because I am just one person, with a busy job and a few new hobbies to contend with.

I am, therefore, looking for 1 - 5 volunteers to help me with the research, requesting, and formatting of this blog. If by some miracle I am inundated with requests to help, I may not be able to take on everyone, as this would become hard to manage.

Please see below for full details. It is really important that you read through the Important Points section before putting your name forward. 😊

What would I be doing?

You would be putting forward fics to include on the fic rec lists on the @f1crecs blog, based on a given prompt. This could be a pairing (maxiel/piarles/strollonso) or a trope (soulmates/coffee shop au/canon divergence). This would include you selecting a favourite quote from the fic, as well as a brief summary of why you enjoyed it.

How would it work?

🔸️ We would communicate on a Discord server.

🔸️ I would receive requests for rec lists through the blog's inbox, and share them in the Discord server.

🔸️ We would have channels to work together to compile the lists.

🔸️ We would decide together on a banner image and any other text needed.

🔸️ I would format the post and publish to the blog, crediting you in the body of the post.

🔸️ I imagine we'd work on five or so requests at a time, dependent on numbers. 😊

What pairings do you need help with?

All of them! I am looking for support with all pairings and tropes - I believe that rec blogs are stronger when run by a team, as they have more eyes and are less likely to forget or miss something. 😊

Due to gaps in my knowledge, the areas I need most support on are:

Important Points

‼️ I ask for permission from EVERY author that I want to feature on a fic rec list. By joining the blog team, you would agree to do the same. If we are not given permission to list the fic, or if the author does not respond within one week of our request, the fic does not get included on the list (or any future list). You will be given a template to make these requests, to make this easier. 🥰

‼️ When compiling the lists, I include my favourite quote from the fic and a couple of sentences about why I enjoyed it. Please consider if this is something you'd be willing to do.

‼️ I have all kinds of pairings and character requests come through to the inbox. f1crecs is a neutral space, with no driver, ship, or trope hate allowed.

‼️ This blog is f1 only. At least one person in the pairing must be, or have been, in f1 - or, if gen, the central character must be or have been in f1.

I love discord when it's a small server but I find hate the larger ones. Not for the fandom, but because people can be too much in them. Every server I've been in has at least one person who complains all the time, treats others like their therapists, constantly talks about how horrible their life is/their health concerns and more. I get wanting a place to bitch about life, but it gets to be too much. I block them all, but it's still irritating.

I left a server over this recently because all one woman did was either talk about what a fandom old she was, or complain about her issue of the day. I'd check the server, and it would be a wall of blocked messages in multiple channels.

Small servers for the win. At least if people complain there, it's people I know and have a relationship with. It may be cruel of me, but I don't join larger fandom servers to see that. I join then to see headcanons, fanart, and get fic recs. Fandom is an escape from life, and it's hard for it to be an escape when people treat others as their emotional punching bags. I'm assuming they think discord is screaming into the void, but we're all people.

Tumblr is super easy to curate at least. Some of these people are next to impossible to avoid on discord, even if you mute channels and block them.

What? For anyone who enjoys writing and/or reading Wesper fics and wants a place to connect with fellow writers and readers in order to brainstorm fics, rec your faves, or just make like-minded friends.

We're a fairly small, friendly server that's actively being shaped by our community. We share a love of the Crows, not just Wesper, and we all have a vested interest in seeing SAB S3 and a spin-off, so if you need somewhere to hang out on news of our fate, this is the place for you!

This month, we're hosting our first event: Make My May 2023, a fic request event where everyone is welcome to submit prompts to be claimed throughout the month. On an even more casual daily basis, members host writing sprints in a dedicated channel where a bot can be asked to set a timer (on avg. 20 minutes) and anyone who wants to participate spends that time writing before reconvening in the chat when the timer goes off. It's a fun way to make friends and motivate yourself to get that WIP done!

What does the network do?

The Shameless Creators Network supports digital/visual fandom artists by reblogging your fan works. We also hope to increase fandom engagement, inspire creativity, and connect creators by hosting events each month. Our discord server is our hub for collaboration and conversation. 

What kinds of posts do you share?

We reblog your content! This includes gifsets, photo edits and manipulations, original music and fan-made playlists, video edits/fancams, and visual art. The network supports all Shameless creators -  all characters and all seasons! 

We will reblog announcements and information about other fandom events and initiatives to help you stay inspired and connected! 

We also facilitate gifset or other content requests! Please see below for details. 

What does the network not do?

This blog will not rec fics or reblog fic updates. We will reblog announcements about fandom events, which may include fic challenges, etc; but we will otherwise not be posting fics here. The discord server has a channel for fandom updates. Members may post information about fic initiatives and events there, but may not share WIPs or ongoing fic projects.

Network admins will not be posting their original content directly to this blog. Admins may add their own works to the running queue, just like yours! 

What kinds of events will you host?

We will host monthly theme events or challenges to inspire creations! These themes will differ from month to month, but some ideas include:

How do requests work?

Send us an ask or message the requests channel. Please include as much information as possible, including: 

Episode, scene, or characters 

Song lyrics, poem lines, etc. 

Style, coloring, theme 

Add any details you wish, but please allow for the artist’s creative styles! 

Artists will claim requests in the server and post their work to share with you!

We do not facilitate paid commissions. Artists may post links about commissions in the server, but they may not request payment for requests made to the blog.

Do I have to be a creator to join the server?

No! All are welcome to join the server and talk about fandom creations and initiatives. And if you are a creator, you are not obligated to share your work! You are welcome to come hang out with us. 

Do I have to join the server to participate?

No! If you prefer, you are welcome to simply use the tag and interact with us here on tumblr. All relevant information will be shared both here and on discord. 

Do I have to create for Shameless to join the server?

No! You are more than welcome to join the server to discuss tips, tricks, and share resources. We can all learn from each other! Content shared in the media share channel, however, should be related to Shameless.

Oh boy! Do you have any specific genres (angst, hurt/comfort, fluff, etc), dynamics (sbi, syndicate, emduo, etc) or themes (AU, sickfic, dark sbi, etc) you’re looking for? Because just any Techno fic is kind of a big pool for me to rec from lol.

❓ What is Exploding Snap ❓

Exploding Snap is a Drarry Game/Fest for both readers and creators, modeled after Crazy Eights, Uno, and other such variations of the same concept. Signups open May 21, and the game will begin June 20.

❓ How does it work  ❓

As in these other card games, it is an incredibly fast-paced game where the goal is to get rid of as many cards as possible (until you reach zero, if you can). Some cards are meant for you to read and rec fics, whereas other cards intend for you to create new fanworks before those cards can be played.

Mods will deal 7 cards to each player for them to complete during the game, and players will have to coordinate with their team to decide what completed card they want to play during their team’s turn. To win, all players in a team must play all of their cards (or be the team with the fewest cards on September 1, 2021).

❗ Warning! This is Not Like Other Events ❗

Most Game of Drarry events are go-at-your-own-speed, play as much as you like. This is a new sort of game that is intended to be incredibly fast-paced with a lot of teamwork involved. Continue reading below for more information.

❓ What kind of prompts  ❓

The regular cards, 0-9 for each suit, are simply reading cards. Read a fic with the listed trope, post a rec on your chosen blog/journal/etc. to complete the card, and that card will be eligible for play.

Some of the more special cards, like those some players may recognize as Reverse or Skip, for example, will be creation cards. In our case, these are the Knockback Jinx cards and the Boggart cards, respectively. You can write a short fic within the listed parameters. You can podfic. You can even create some art if that’s your chosen medium!

As the game progresses, your team may be dealt some cards that must be worked on collaboratively, meaning two or more players will have to combine their efforts for these special cards.

❓ What are the guidelines  ❓

The one hard and fast rule is obvious: IT MUST BE DRARRY.

You can include other background pairings and characters, even OT3, but Draco + Harry must be the main focus.

All ratings are welcome. Please just make sure you tag your submission appropriately wherever you choose to post it.

In this game, teams will have roughly twenty-four hours between the time the last card was played and when they must play their card. Any cards played must have already been completed. For example: You cannot play the Gryffindor 4 with a requirement of reading a Time Travel fic if you have not submitted your rec for such a fic.

❓ What about the different parameters ❓

The spirit of Game of Drarry is to encourage creativity and also challenge and inspire. We set various random word counts for our writers like Minimum: 433 - Maximum: 753 to get writers to think critically and make calculated choices about their storytelling.

❓ That sounds nice but what if an idea gets away from me and I write 2000 words for one of the prompts ❓

Players will have one (1) chance to go past the prompt requirements, whether that’s going beyond the bounds of the word count, recording a slightly shorter podfic, or stretching the trope to something that we probably wouldn’t count otherwise. However, you only get that one chance, so use it wisely!

❗ A bit of friendly competition! ❗

Everyone knows games like crazy eights or Uno notoriously end when someone places down their final card, leaving their hand empty while two friends scream angrily with their hands of 20+ cards. This game has a set conclusion for August 31, 2021. If no team completely gets rid of all their cards by September 1, 2021, the winning team will be whichever team has the least amount of cards

When you sign up, the mods will assign you a team at random to keep the numbers even. There are four teams total.

Each player will receive 7 cards a week before the game starts. Each team can use a card from any of their players, so team cards are counted together. There’s no ‘I’ in team!

Additionally, you’ll have access to the Game of Drarry Discord server where you can chat with other players, lounge around your team’s private channel, sprint, find betas to scream at, ask authors for podfic or fanart permission, and have chat access to the mods.

❓ Where do I post my fanwork submissions  ❓

You may post your filled prompt on your chosen public platform. You will be asked to submit the link when you request to complete a card and be able to play it later. You are encouraged to add your work to our AO3 collection, which is self-posting! The AO3 collection will open and be available for posting when the game begins.

❓  What are the prerequisites to participate ❓

The only prerequisite is that you must be 18 years or older to participate. You do not need to have work posted publicly before the game/fest begins. You only need your imagination and a love of Drarry!

The 6th Installation of the BRRR — Alternate Universe Edition —

When our fanfic authors could use some extra love and we could use some extra fic recs to read… It’s time for another round of Bughead Review Round Robin! We are focusing on non-canon related AU’s this round, coffee shops, offices, photographers, and anything else under the sun that’s totally removed from Riverdale canon. It’s time to read some fics that are 100% fanon!

A Short Version of How it’s Going to Work:

The BRRR is a read and review fest that welcomes all fans of Bughead fanfic. Each person who signs up will submit two Bughead-centric non-canon AUs that they would like to recommend for some extra comment love. For this round, recommended fics must not be written by the person submitting them. You will be placed in a group of 4-5 members, including a group leader, to read and review fics together ‘round robin’ style. Your group will be assigned a fic once a week on Tuesday to read and leave a thoughtful, kind, and detailed comment on that designated fic by the following Monday. Rinse and repeat for 4-5 weeks.

(Check the option on the survey to opt in for a high word count reading group if you are down for reading a 10k+ fic even if your designated fic rec is under 10k)

All sensitive content MUST be tagged appropriately on the form and Ao3.

You must be willing to read any rating/trigger that the fics you submit as your recs contain. (i.e. If on your form you fill out that you are not willing to read a fic with abuse, the fic you rec cannot contain abuse. Similarly, if you are unwilling to read an M rated fic, you cannot rec an M rated fic)

WHAT ARE THE FIC REVIEW GUIDELINES?

Leave a kind, thoughtful, and detailed comment on the designated fic of the week

Comments must reach a minimum of 200 words

Include your commentary and at least one quote from the fic.

If the review heavily features quotes, the amount of original commentary must be greater than or equal to direct quotes.

Do not leave criticism of any kind on the work.

Use kind, positive, and encouraging language when referencing the weekly fic, be it in your comment or discussion with your group.

COULD YOU TELL ME MORE ABOUT GROUP LEADERS?

Small group leaders will work in tandem with the admins to ensure that rules are being followed, reviews are being submitted, and everyone is having a swell time.

Group leaders will be responsible for regular check-ins/reminders for their group, encouragement of open and active dialogue in the group’s chat channel, and verification that group members have completed and placed their reviews in the review links channel at the end of each week.

Those with the role will be placed in a Discord channel, along with admins, to better communicate and help one another.

🥳 Hey everyone! I’m back with a final Star Wars fest of the winter/spring (because I know April will be filled with prep for May 4th!) but I figured one more very low key fest would be fun for the month of March!

March Madness fest details: this will be a song prompt fest! Send in any songs to our music rec channel on the Fandom Fests server discord or dm them to me and I’ll add it to a mega fest playlist.
