It's wednesday my dudes
What do you mean it's wednesday again? (thanks @beefrobeefcal for tagging me and therefore kicking my ass to write 💜💜)
Well...
I've been a little busy in the last days, as some might have realized (who am I kidding here)
Yesterday was my rp anniversary and I'll be at Comic Con on saturday and still tweaking shit on my costume (yes you will get pics!) and the end of the month is approaching, which means chapter 9 is due
I'm doing my best to get it done by saturday. I'm at 8k words right now, two scenes are still missing. (Maybe I'm scratching one of the scenes for the sake of getting it done in time, we'll see)
It might end up being more than 10k of 'Din being an idiot in love and not realizing'. The yearning is there. Here's a little snippet:
»Can I ask you something?« he hesitantly asked. Now that he had the chance, he didn’t want it to go to waste. »You just did,« she smirked. »Go ahead.« »Is it true that Jedi have to live by strict rules?« He felt his heart rate pick up. Maia had mentioned a few things about why she didn’t want to be part of the order, had it still existed. »What rules are you referring to specifically?« He took a deep breath. »No attachments, neither possessions nor relationships are allowed. As a Mandalorian, I fail to see how loyalty to someone can be seen as bad.«
Stay tuned! I'm working on it with all the energy and time I can spare QwQ
Worth mentioning here: Marcus A. isn't forgotten, I just want to put the long fic as my top priority.

"It's a red Camaro," he said, giggling as he explained, "Boxy, like uh... pretty sure it's from the sixties or something? Old hunk of trash, I swear, I didn't really have money to keep it all nice-looking. Only had it cause some old man gave it to me in exchange for this huge mural he wanted and I figured it was a fair exchange. Last I saw it..." he paused to think. "Last I saw it was near where I used to live when we met, the person I sold it to was local. I don't have any contact info but I can text you the plate number, just remind me later, my phone's dead."
Dmitry had no doubt that Nico would be able to locate the car... and obtain it. But it was one of those things where he knew better than to ask for the finer details on Nico's methodology. Bought, stolen, or Jedi-mind-tricked, it didn't really matter to him. It had been more wishful thinking than a demand of a request, anyhow, and if for some reason Nico couldn't find the car, that was no big deal either.
Dmitry made a mental note to ask more about Caim later. That name had come up once or twice, and he knew it was one of Nico's... not-brothers? Demon relations were something still shrouded in mystery to Dmitry. But certainly, Caim was one associated with Murmur in some way, he thought. He hadn't realized Nico was still in contact with Caim, or any of the other demons for that matter. It just wasn't the right time to ask right now, either. The littlest angel was enjoying joking around with Nico and being lighthearted. It felt good, and it felt good to be back.
Nico even promised to get their black parade of ghosts on the game invite list, earning a pleased grin from the emo angel. He rested against Nico feeling distinctly like he would never leave the space between Nico's arms and chest. That kind of closeness, more than just by virtue of being freely-given affection, was especially pleasant because of the relief from closing the distance between their stitched-up souls. He pushed away a memory from the one time they'd had the chance to truly share the same space and swim in each other. It was unobtainable right now. It was better not to dwell. Besides...
Jovan showed up, as Dmitry had been certain he would.
"Sorry! I keep forgetting you're like... It's hard to call out at a normal volume when I can't see ya, I forget," he shrugged. "But see? You're down to show up at the ghost party, it's all good! It's okay if you disappoint me some other time, I got me a Nico," he said, punctuating the thought with a kiss for Nico.
Dmitry wanted his old car back? Nico was clueless. This was obviously before him, but what this halfling heard was a wish.
"Just give me some clues on where it last was and your wish is my command. I'll be your genie for a day, babe. You want it and I'll figure it out for you."
He crossed his arms like the genie on Aladdin. "Poof, what do you need? Your old car? Oh, okay. Just give me some time and the great Nicosa will find it for you."
He was not even worried about who had it last or whether they willing to give it back. Bah. Willing was a word he was good at getting people to feel.
He just laughed about the dishonor shit. All good joking around. "Just don't fuck with Caim's cows. He's weird about his cows. I don't know. It's a Caim thing. Fucker talks to cows. Go figure." He laughed.
He liked being trapped in by Dmitry. Felt like good times, old times, normal, good, old times. He didn't have to cling if Dmitry was already clinging.
Game explained and it seemed like Dmitry got the jist even in his scattered way of explaining.
"Then that's on list. I'll get right on it. Ghost parade." He wobbled his brow and Spocked one up. "Black parade for the invite list and we'll ask them to play."
Then Dmitry was on the ball already hollering for Jovan. The closest ghost usually.
Jovan's voice would vibrate in Nico's ears. "Aint gotta yell, bruh. Aint gotta yell."
He slowly manifested into a transparent version of himself and said, "But no promises on the not disappointing thing. That's pretty much been my M.O. my whole life. Pretty sure it doesn't change in the afterlife. I disappointed my momma. It's very possible I'll disappoint you too, buddy. That said I'll come to your party. Wherever a ghost party shall be found will be the souls that can get down. That would be moi." He pointed at himself.

hear me out on this ok. ROTS AU where Anakin still turns to the dark side but that's Palpatine's problem.
So, Palpatine decides last minute that ehhhh maybe dooku could come in handy later and he doesn't encourage Anakin to kill him, and Dooku gets arrested and imprisoned in the Jedi Temple awaiting trial. (Also he didn't get his hands cut off because of uhh plot reasons?)
Fast forward.
Palpatine is encouraging Anakin towards the Dark side, tells him about Plagueis the Wise, etc. etc. But see, the thing is, Anakin is at the end of his tether, probably hasn't slept more than three hours over the past week, and has no remaining impulse control or inhibitions, and upon hearing that the Dark Side can save people from death, his first thought is, "wait a sec, we've got a Sith Lord in-house at the moment!" and he sprints out of the space opera and books it back to the temple.
Now, Dooku has been calmly waiting in Temple custody, confident that Darth Sidious will arrange his escape. But THEN Anakin barges into the cell like OMG THE CHANCELLOR TOLD ME THE SITH KNOW HOW TO KEEP PEOPLE FROM DYING AND I'M HAVING DREAMS ABOUT SOMEONE DYING AND I NEED YOUR HELP TO SAVE THEM
At which point, Dooku realizes Palpatine's plan. He's going to tempt Skywalker to the Dark side and REPLACE DOOKU. this is totally uncool.
So he's like "...who are you dreaming about, exactly?"
Anakin freezes. He can't admit it's Padme because their relationship is top-secret and he can't admit how important she is to him so he tries to think of a good fib and goes "uhhhh OBI-WAN! Obi-Wan, it's Obi-Wan, I'm dreaming about Obi-Wan dying-" and he just throws himself into the drama because now he IS imagining obi-wan dying because Obi-Wan is fighting grievous at the moment and he MIGHT ACTUALLY DIE and that's in addition to Padme dying and he's totally spiraling at this point- "pleasepleaseplease you gotta help me he's like the only father i've ever known I don't know what i'll do without obi-wan I have to save him YOU GOTTA TELL ME WHAT TO DO I'LL DO ANYTHING--"
Dooku begins to smile.
(Would stealing Skywalker out from under his Master's nose be petty? Oh, yeah.)
(But it would also be very, very satisfying.)
---
Obi-Wan calls in to a council meeting to report his defeat of Grievous, but before he can say so, Mace announces that Dooku has escaped and the Sith Master has been killed.
Silence falls between the eleven councilmembers (eleven, not twelve, because their newest one is conspicuously absent. Obi-Wan wonders just what Anakin's up to now. Honestly, that boy will be the death of him.)
Obi-Wan clears his throat.
"...indeed," he says, trying to handle the shocking news with composure. "Well... at least we're down to one Sith, now."
Another awkward pause.
"Yeah, about that--" Mace begins.
#Dooku totes anakin back to the Separatists but Anakin's loyalty has really only ever been to like 3 people so he kinda doesn't care#as long as he doesn't have to fight obi-wan or ahsoka he's cool with it#his favorite part of the job is when he has to 'kidnap' padme and/or their kids for uhhhh Political Reasons#and they get to hang out as a family#obi-wan is always the one sent to 'rescue' padme#the rescues mostly consist of obi-wan rolling his eyes while Anakin and Padme draw out a goodbye longer than a midwesterner#(secretly obi-wan thinks it's kinda funny)#also as Anakin is now a Sith he learns about all the Sithly Plans including the clone chips and he immediately panics#'THIS COULD HURT OBI-WAN OR AHSOKA WE HAVE TO STOP IT'#and offers free healthcare (aka chip removal) to all clones on separatist planets (including active warzones) and somehow it works?#despite being the most drama-queen Jedi out there Anakin somehow becomes the most chill sith ever#like he will absolutely fly off the handle if anyone threatens Obi-Wan or Padme or Ahsoka but he's not into the causing-suffering thing#(which I know isn't how the dark side works really but for the purpose of funnyness yes it is)#he's pretty calm in general though! still wants to help people!#dooku sends him to conquer a republic planet that's fighting the separatists and he gets there and he's like#WELL OF COURSE THEY'RE FIGHTING US! LOOK AT ALL THE PROBLEMS WE'RE CAUSING FOR THEM! THEIR ECONOMY IS IN SHAMBLES!#*to the planetary leaders* don't worry I know someone in the Senate who can help with relief aid. in the meantime let's talk treaties!#when he gets back dooku is like YOU ARE A *SITH* YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO CAUSE *SUFFERING*#and Anakin is like I TIED ALL THEIR SHOELACES TOGETHER WITH THE FORCE WHILE WE WERE IN DIPLOMATIC MEETINGS WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT FROM ME?!?#jessica's random thoughts#star wars au

not a single day passes where I don't think about the implication of legends(?)-comics jedi master Vima-Da-Boda
she *has* to have been in her prime during the clone wars, which puts her right into the time frame of anakin 'stress ulcer over my secret wife's secret pregnancy' skywalker.
why am i saying this?
because this woman, a jedi master from a *geneological jedi dynasty*, also got pregnant, had a whole daughter and TRAINED HER AS HER OWN PADAWAN (the daughter then wdnt off and fell and got herself killed but thats besides the point)
what i'm saying is that between Vima (and the whole Sunrider Dynasty tbh) and Yula Braylon (who hid her child but Yoda explicitly states that they would have helped her had she told them) and the several other jedi with close family bonds in and outside the order WHY do people keep insisting that the jedi were anti-family hardliners?
the jedi order, at least in legends, has *always* allowed its members to marry and procreate if they choose to. you can even train your own children! it happens all the time!!
ki-adi mundi has five wives and idk how many children, plo koon's niece is a jedi, adi gallia and stass allie are cousins and both became high council members, vima trains her own daughter as her padawan and yula could have announced arath as her kid no problem.
and that is not even going into jedi families in the old/high republic times (remember, the order's most famous grandmaster, nomi sunrider, became a jedi at 30 after her already jedi husband was killed and she too had a daughter which she trained as a padawan)
also, you know, canon is free real estate anyways.
but for those who are so hellbent on saying that the jedi are anti-marriage/family hardliners, no they are not & they never were.
i hope that helps 👍🏼
#im not saying this to discredit anyone who wants to play with the concept of a vow of celibacy/non-attachment jedi order#i'm just saying that thats not what the source material implies#you know you're free to do whatever you want in fic 🤷🏻♀️#i just am a staunch defender of the jedi order being quite a bit more open about things than large parts of the fandom think it is#like. what reason could there POSSIBLY be in-universe for someone to not just grab the next best nomi sunrider holocron#and have the recording of THE grandmaster herself tell anyone off that tries to go 'all familial bonds are attachment' or whatever#seeing as the sunrider line kept producing jedi over literal milennia i think their existence alone should shut up any naysayers#but whatever#i think about the sunriders way too much tbh#random boli thoughts#star wars meta#me writing#jedi order#the jedi

Yeah yeah jedi Maul au we've all seen him. But what about senator Maul au. Representing Dathomir, a neutral world like Mandalore that is still somewhat hostile to outsiders. Wearing fancy clothes that show a bit too much skin for the cold climate of Coruscant. Falling in hate at first sight with Padmé, the only other senator who brings a gun to the senate floor "just in case". The two of them having a weird rivalry because Maul doesn't trust the Jedi and is neutral in a lot of subjects that Padmé is a vocal defender of.
#hm i should make an original post tag#maul#darth maul#padmé#<- she gets tagged too because she is very in my thoughts as i imagine this#sorry i watched the phantom menace bonus dvd and all the making of stuff made me Think#i want to put maul in fancy clothes and situations#he still votes with padmé in a lot of stuff btw. he just refuses to defend it out loud#because first of all he has his pride#second of all he's not here to speak for himself like all those selfish old men he's here on behalf of the tribes of dathomir#dathomir would probably have a lot more senators than the average world i think. since the tribes are not all unified#so maul would be like. the talzin clan and/or nightbrothers' senator. possibly the only male in the dathomir delegation#and more connected to the dathomir magics and martial arts than to sith philosophy#he'd probably hate both sith and jedi also. they're both freaks who worry too much about light and dark#also. this is half very similar to thoughts i have about an (unrelated) oc i have so i dont want to put this on the main post but also.#he'd probably have a lot of 'fans' who love him for his voice and looks instead of his politics#and i Knoww padmé has fans too. because she is a fashion icon. and very charismatic#so can you imagine. the hot politician fandom drama.#sorry i love creating stupid imaginary internet drama#this and my obimaul begrudging tumblr mutuals who hate each other au. i love creating virtual Situations#senator maul au

“Din Djarin’s identity as a Mandalorian will always be central to his character, and his devotion to his orthodox religion, warrior’s creed, and its chivalrous code of honor is a truly noble one.”
and
“Din Djarin’s devotion to his creed has fundamentally isolated him from love, his role as The Tribe’s breadwinner was as unsustainable as it gave him purpose, and the fierceness of his faith stems from unprocessed trauma and the guilt he feels as an orphan and a foundling. His views on what it means to be a Mandalorian were narrow until he met others who didn’t conform to his own creed, and in this, his status as an voluntary oathbreaker is equally as integral to his character.”
…are both takes that co-exist in my mind.
#Star Wars#the mandalorian#din djarin#character analysis#sol rambles#obligatory this is not meant to be a hot take and nobody has to agree with me on this#2nd obligatory I can interpret this character however I want to within reasonable limits#and as a person from a religious background who now identifies as agnostic#I find this more than reasonable#I honestly love entertaining the idea of Din renouncing his orthodoxy as much as I loved his redemption#Din’s relationship with his faith in S2 was so realistically messy#and it resonated with me greatly#the “is it truly faith if people just get to pick and choose what to adhere to and what to disregard?”#“wtf does that make me?”#people do turn to religion after deep personal loss#and it can be a beautiful thing as much as it can be dangerous#faith can consume you to the point where you can no longer recognize yourself without it#and I saw Din being well on that path if Grogu hadn’t come along#transcending religious identities is such a juicy motif in Star Wars#all starting with Luke declaring he’s a Jedi like his father before him#while also fiercely defying both his masters by refusing to sacrifice Han and Leia in order to complete his training#the training Yoda dictated for him#literally the embodiment of The Old Order#and what’s that saying?#none will be free until the old ways are gone forever#oh my god I am rambling#THANK YOU FOR LISTENING#Sol out

Hello I have a question since I have no idea what's going on.
I finally watched Tales of the Jedi a thought it was great. Got me right in my feelings and more excited for the Bad Batch.
But there seems to be a lot of Filoni hate and I think I missed something. I mean what happened to in Filoni we trust?
Filoni happened, too many times.
TOTJ was pretty good on the whole, but what's been bothering people more and more is how comfortable he's gotten with treating Star Wars like his own personal sandbox. Characters he's a fan of get the spotlight even when they shouldn't, and he lets his biases and preferences shine through instead of sticking to the movies or even TCW s1-6. It was fine when he wasn't implicated in just about every piece of SW media that's being released, but now his vision is everywhere, unrestrained, and if you're not an absolute fan of said vision you quickly get fed up - which is what happened imo, at least in my corner of the fandom.
I don't hate the dude, but I really feel like his writing deserves all the pasta nicknames and 'Darth Felonius' jokes people can come up with.
#ask#anonymous#i'll expand of that if you want me to but take dooku's arc in totj#yaddle - a council member who hadn't yet being explored in this continuity - is now solely defined by her leaving the council#so she can be 'one of the good ones'#the 'good ones' supposedly being jedi who don't want to be in the council#or how she sympathizes with dooku's opinion that the council should have prevented qui-gon's death#EVEN THOUGH DOOKU - WHO WAS ALREADY WORKING FOR SIDIOUS - WAS IN THE BEST POSITION TO PREVENT QUI-GON'S DEATH#or how dooku complains that the jedi aren't doing anything about corruption and evil while he's working with palps to have him elected#undemocratically. he's actively increasing corruption and evil and knowingly putting a sith in charge but the jedi aren't doing enough???#it's jarring how much the writing makes dooku seem even more stupid and evil than in the movies and tcw and yet seems oblivious to that fac#that's what i meant about biases shining through

Circulating VERY weird Star Wars/LOTRO (specifically Shadows of Angmar) AU in my brain right now. It is surprisingly fun.
#three guesses who the false king of angmar is and the first two don't count#obi-wan @ laerdan: dude i understand more than you think but ALSO THESE ARE TERRIBLE DECISIONS#you don't want to recruit me. you want to go home and rethink your life#random angmarim: uh‚ I want to go home and rethink my life.#jedi are essentially human rune-keepers who went a bit eldritch over the years#elf with 0 experience with mortals: uh‚ should you be living this long???#cirdan: just don't ask. it's simpler if you don't ask.#this is so ridiculous and niche but it's FUN#star wars#lotro

more than a month after my previous kotor update i am happy to announce that i have finally met jolee and had him join me <3
#el plays kotor#yes im still on kashyyyk dont look at me#i was distracted by other games for a sec lmao but sth made me return to kotor yesterday#and now the party is complete!!!#and i have found 3 star maps and the plot is thickening!!!!#i keep wondering. if i hadn't been spoiled abt the pc's true identity would i have pieced it together by now#bc the foreshadowing isn't exactly subtle#or maybe it just feels unsubtle to me precisely because i know what is being foreshadowed....#but like. from the very beginning carth is like hmm its kinda sus that you happened to be on the endar spire#and then all those conversations with bastila that make u go hmmmm what's that supposed to mean#and then... when getting the star map on kashyyyk the hologram says sth abt you matching the required behavioral patterns or whatev#and that the last time it was used was five years ago And you can reply with 'hey revan was in these parts five years ago right'#like!!! yeah!!!! it was me!!!! i was the last user five years ago thats why i match the pattern i am revannnnnnnn#i have to know. did the first kotor players back in 2003 figure it out by this point hngngngnhng#or like any other players after 2003 who played and managed to avoid spoilers#anyway back to jolee. he is so cool but also so squishy on god#apparently some ppl give him a blaster to keep him out of melee but like you cant give a blaster to a jedi..... so uncivilized.......#i set him to use force powers until he runs out of force points#but the moment he runs out of force points and jumps into the fray he goes down. sigh#maybe im doing something wrong again. maybe i should let go of my jedi pride and just give him a blaster#i should also probably use all those energy shields and battle stimulants i have hoarded. i keep forgetting abt them lmao#also!!! @ the mutual who sent me that kotor related ask also more than a month ago i just wanted to let u kno. i have replied to it#i mean if u missed it or if u didnt get a notif or forgot or anything else that's cool !!#i just get all worried that ppl might think i havent answered and that im ignoring them if they dont indicate they've seen the reply gfhgfh#but that's a me issue. i just wanted to make sure u knew 🫶#anyway!! next stop manaan maybe#but first a detour to tatooine to deal with mission's useless deadbeat brother

The Fire Nation is not fascist
words have meanings and you should use them correctly even when applying them to fiction
not all authoritarian governments are fascist even when militarized and just because you don't like that government that doesn't automatically make it fascist
the Fire Nation in the time of atla is more akin to the British Empire as it was an industrializing colonial empire than any fascist regime, Sozin's comments prior to the war harken more to white man's burden than fascism
that's also a very bad thing, you can just say that and be accurate, you don't have to reach for fascism
there are multiple ways you can look at the Fire Nation as it is portrayed within atla and see that it is not fascist
the Fire Nation is an absolute monarchy
fascist regimes are dictatorships
the Fire Nation has never had a period of democracy
fascist regimes are post democratic often initially winning power through democratic elections
the Fire Nation has no corporations, as far as can be assumed from the show everything related to industrialization might just be owned by the state (military)/the monarchy from all the ship building rigs to the factory blown up in The Painted Lady, the only people who might even be merchants are the Bei Fongs but they're still nobles so potentially all their wealth is from their land and holdings not through trade, the Fire Nation could genuinely just still be feudal and have an underdeveloped merchant class if everything trade related is getting funneled through the military/state
fascist regimes are extremely corporatist, they don't believe in public ownership, public goods, public services, anything that can be sold off to corporations and private interest will be, they go for extreme privitization
I think you could even argue that the Fire Nation is not industrialized enough to be fascist either, when the gaang is traveling through the Fire Nation it's basically as rural and pre-industrial as the Earth Kingdom there's like one factory in all of the Fire Nation, and even the Caldera seems pretty pre-industrial, there are no factories, no modern housing/aprtment buildings, no smog and pollution, only the military seems to be industrialized at all with tanks, metal ships, air balloons, and jet skis
and if you take a more ideological lens and compare it to Eco's Ur-Fascism while whether the Fire Nation meets the requirements are more debatable on some of his 14 points than others based on what you can assume from what is shown, others are outright impossible in the Fire Nation and atla world, and some the Fire Nation straight up doesn't meet the requirements for (the ones I don't mention here you can assume the FN does meet them enough though again some are more debatable than others)
-rejection of modernism
this is impossible in the Fire Nation and atla because as far as we can tell there is no period of Enlightenment or even a modernism to reject and you could maybe even argue the Fire Nation might be the ones embracing anything approaching modernism as they were the ones to hire the mechanist but that's very little proof to go on especially as it's for the war machine which is one technology fascists do go for
-appeal to a frustrated middle class
again no corporation or move to capitalism or any merchants or businessmen, hard to say a middle class even exists in the Fire Nation, there's a middle ring in Ba Sing Se but the Fire Nation seems split between nobles and commoners with no middle ground
-obsession with a plot
so I wouldn't say the Fire Nation has no obsession with a plot as they're doing the whole white man's burden equivalent and wanting to 'share their greatness' with the world but the plot fascists are obsessed with are internal enemies aka being anti-semitic and suspicious of Jewish people and while yes the Fire Nation tells lies about Air Nomads they're all convinced every single one of them are dead, they're not internal enemies, there are no internal enemies of the Fire Nation and this ties into the next point
-at the same time too strong and too weak
because there's no internal enemies to stamp out and be fearful of and they're winning a global war, there's no sense from the Fire Nation that they think they're too strong and too weak, they only think they are strong, so strong in fact as to be deserving of ruling the world, this is Azula's entire argument for her coup in Ba Sing Se, she as a member of Fire Nation royalty has the divine right to rule that is unquestionable
-machismo
now I'm not saying there's no sexism in the Fire Nation, they're clearly led by men in the monarchy military and in organized religion, but they might be the least sexist of the existing nations aside from Kyoshi, the Water Tribes obviously have sexism as exhibited by the male power structure, arranged marriages, and preventing female waterbenders from gaining martial skill, the Earth Kingdom in atla only shows male rulers whether kings or Dai Li and Toph's the only female earthbender and she learned it so far outside the system she didn't even learn from a human and their military is also entirely male, the Fire Nation however has female soldiers and guards, teaches female firebenders to bend and female nonbenders can also learn martial skill, and yeah Azula and her friends might just be getting lee way as nobles but literally no one belittles them or remarks upon it in anyway whereas Katara and Toph are definitely remarked upon (though Toph not solely for being a girl)
also Fire Nation noble teen girls can casually date like I get it's a kid's show and maybe they're not thinking deeply on this but they made it explicit that Yue was already betrothed and could not casually date at around the same age Azula, Ty Lee, and Mai are casually dating or trying to date without any mention of betrothals or arranged marriages and without any apparent risk to their personal reputations (yes Mai's dating Zuko is politically and likely financially advantageous to her family or could potentially have been spurred by Azula to keep track of Zuko but as far as we know from canon this is entirely Mai's choice and is in fact casual dating)
-selective populism
the Fire Nation royalty do not give a shit about the will of the people, their positions are for them and to be used how they wish to use them, they do not see themselves as the interpreter of popular will because they don't need it for legitimacy and authority in place of a democratically elected government, they are monarchs with a divine right to rule in a world of other monarchs
-newspeak
there's no evidence the Fire Nation employs this at all, they lie sure especially about the Air Nomads, but they don't invent new jargon to limit critical thinking (they kinda don't need to Ozai and Azula are abusive and manipulative enough on their own they can do it with normal language)
the Fire Nation just does not match the profile of a fascist regime enough ideologically or otherwise to be comfortably calling it fascist or treat it as a matter of fact in fandom
and if you're going to make the argument well they just couldn't show you everything like multiple factories and corporations or a middle class in the Fire Nation due to time limits so actually you can safely assume it is fascist
no, anything beyond what they DID show is headcanon and what IS canon does not lend itself to an argument that the Fire Nation actually is fascist
the monarchy, lack of democracy ever, and what Fire Nation characters have said about the country and its stated goals are canon and point towards an industrializing colonial empire that's not as sexist as it could be
#fire nation#atla#long post#this was just annoying me#and if you want to talk about something w limited time but does potentially point to fascism look at star wars#and I mean just OT you at least have a dictator and post democracy which isn't a lot but its something#in PT however the last years of the republic not even the empire has a more genuine case of being fascist than the FN#the PT adds the corporatism with corporations literally having representation in the senate and that's pre-Palps election#but it also has obsession w the plot which is jedi who are internal enemies and traitors#it's got the too strong and too weak as a justification for palps getting power and keeping it#I'm just saying 6 movies is shorter than 3 seasons and it makes a more convincing argument

I just read your mando episode 1 thoughts and I’m really glad you also didn’t like the Nevarro changes like I love Nevarro and I watched the episode and was like hm… Nevarro is… boring now…
Hello there, Anon! Finally getting around to this ask but it's been on my mind. It just really, really bothers me how flat and boring Nevarro is now. I liked the appeal of a grimy, hardscrabble planet that scraped by with work by the Bounty Hunters Guild, trade, and shadier, more illicit activities. It was a fun and fascinating look into the Outer Rim away from the likes of Tatooine, and now that's gone. Now Nevarro looks and sounds like a freaking Renn Faire trying to eat its cake as some cleaned up and respectacle independent trade center, and I feel like a joke watching it.
The entire season premiere was a mixed bag of decisions and the choices made with Nevarro really damped my already low expectations. Really hope the only way now is up.
#shirozora awkwardly responds to asks#I just have to know if the Imperial Remnant had such an iron grip on Nevarro years after the war#that it really took that long for Greef to start cleaning up town#when he said that the scum and villainy was finally washing away I DIDN'T THINK HE ALSO MEANT THE GUILD HE WORKED WITH#I guess it's just doing business but damn I didn't know he wanted so badly for the bounty hunters to get off his planet#I thought it was so cool that one of Din's support friends had that connection to the bounty hunting business#can't even have that tho can I#what happened with Freetown felt way more organic than whatever this was#then again I have no idea what the actual passage of time is on this show#mostly because I don't trust a single fucking thing coming out of jon dave favloni's mouth#when jon has to correct dave about whether or not luke is a fucking jedi on the record#like okay! fuck it! fuck you fuck me fuck everyone! whatever!

started off with "i want to sketch some scenes of Andor and R1 characters' childhoods" and now im so deep in the worldbuilding zone nobody pull me out this is where i belong
#once i eventually get back to them the scenes I want to draw are as follows:#Cinta before/after her family's murder (i want her whole backstory in s2 or at *least* as like an animated short so bad)#Young Vel and Mon (Mon is about to get betrothed and she's still worrying more for Vel than herself)#Kassa Kerri and their family before the mining disaster celebrating the winter solstice (this is what sent me into the worldbuilding pit)#Parallel: Young Bodhi and his family on Jedha celebrating the summer solstice (this too)#I still have to ask permission but I also want to draw some stuff inspired the Melshi backstory that's written in the “and breathe” series-#-which is a really neat series written by taste-is-sweet on ao3#can you tell i just watched visions and tales of the jedi and am now having delusions of grandeur?

Hello, I would love to hear more about your AUs ❤️ Truthfully I'm in need of something soft or/and funny so if you wanted to tell us some stuff about your reverse AU, or the Forest Spirit one or more about coffeeshop AU I would be delighted to hear it ❤️
hello there! it’s very sweet of you, thank you <з
my reverse au is purely self-indulgent, because I wanted some soft and pining asexual idiots! there are works with demisexual Anakin I like, but I’ve never seen acespec Obi-Wan (which he is, according to canon, but... well. people are horny and we let them be), so it all started as a gentle mockery of suggestive impressions to lessen my insecurity about being asexual and to get a laugh out of it, and then the au transformed into ‘how much suggestive kneeling situations can I put smol Obi-Wan into before it starts getting awfully ridiculous?’
(the answer is... a lot. it is 5+1 au for a reason).
reverse au has a lot of soft touching and bickering! I’m aiming at soft-burn of sorts, where they are so smitten they don’t notice other’s romantic feelings & affection (isn’t it a given?); I can give you some headcanons I keep in mind while writing it:
Anakin does Obi-Wan’s plait after every shower and/or when Obi-Wan messes up his hair. Anakin likes plaiting Obi-Wan’s hair. he really does.
Anakin is an excellent cook and he likes it when Obi-Wan helps him (even if Obi-Wan can only make tea and eggs), but if Obi-Wan can’t or doesn’t want to help, Anakin insists he’s with him in the kitchen! and Obi-Wan likes to be in Anakin’s presence, because he is warm and loving. I like it when one’s significant one is there to entertain them or make it a livelier experience!
Anakin is ace and he is Very Oblivious to how his good looks affect people, but Obi-Wan is not, so he has unconsciously started on... territorial things. walking closer to Anakin, brushing his shoulders more times than strictly necessary, keeping training salle quite chilly, so Anakin wouldn’t take his tunics completely off.
Obi-Wan despises ships and maintenance, but Anakin adores it, so Obi-Wan keeps him company every time. it is both a pleasant and educational experience, because he spends time with his love of his life Master, and he learns some things mechanic, as well as fixing tricks, because Anakin likes to ramble about engines and spark plugs and pressure sensors out loud.
Anakin calls Obi-Wan either Padawan mine or by his name; I peg him as a person who’s very open with physical affection—neck touching, hair plaiting, palms caresses—but he might be somewhat reluctant to voice it. name-calling is intimate for him, he doesn’t want other people’s attention aimed at their pair just because Anakin calls Obi-Wan some lovely (in Obi-Wan’s very humble opinion) name, like stardust or my moon. I believe he won’t openly call Obi-Wan any sweetheart-dear-darling-angel names: he will use a foreign language. it’s silly and he knows it; damn, he calls Obi-Wan his love in Galactic Basic, but other names are too personal and sacred. if someone hears and knows its meaning—then, well, they must know better than bring it up. things said in foreign languages must be left in foreign languages, let the babes have some privacy((
Anakin is into gift-giving. that’s it. he gifts Obi-Wan plenty of things, and the Jedi may not have personal possessions, but what is a shimmersilk hair-tie? or a velvet strap for french-plaiting? or a hand-made holo night-light star systems projector (??the fuck do I call it, really?) for Obi-Wan to easily fall asleep, with twinkling stars and revolving planets?? it is??very cute??? and it has a sleep mode, so the projector turns off when it senses Obi-Wan is in deep sleep phase?? Anakin is Considerate.
Anakin thinks he is embarrassing for the starship models collection he keeps somewhere in his room, but Obi-Wan is the only one who saves credits to buy him those starship models. even if they are smuggled. sh-h.
they bond over space jellyfish documentaries from holonet sea & space research company, because Obi-Wan likes twinkling things, be it a hair-tie, a night-light or a living creature. Anakin finds it amusing and adorable, and they often go through their scheduled lightsabre maintenance with these documentaries in the background (Obi-Wan is very easy to distract with red-shining floating jelly, so Anakin finishes for them both and lets Obi-Wan get his jellyfish facts fill. and peaceful night in, of course).
oh, right. they like mouth kisses. gentle and unhurried, and they hold each other as precious creatures they are to one another. Anakin is (very obviously) into Obi-Wan’s hair, Obi-Wan is into Anakin’s everything, and they made it work, make it work and are and will make it work.
that’s it, I believe. I can go on for hours, and I would like to get into another aus sometime later! hope this gives you some comfort, lovely.
thank you for visiting my soft ace!obikin TEDtalk, it was very nice getting to know them with you.
#obikin#obi-wan kenobi#anakin skywalker#reverse master & padawan au#oh! i remembered i have a soft fix-it with alive shmi#that one has more concepts than actions & plot#but i’ve been very much in love with it since i’ve seen aotc and wanted to save shmi for anakin#i JUST remembered my post-war 5 times they crashed their ship just to have romantic dinner and 1 time they didn’t have to sacrifice it au!!#it is the silliest thing i came up with after cottagecore witch!anakin & retired jedi!obi-wan au#(whispers) 2023. sir. i beg you to let me write & finish & post at least two obikin fics this year! please!

Han Solo isn't religious. He isn't. He doesn't believe in gods or goddesses or spirits or whatever exactly it is that one planet has going on. He only kinda believes in the Force - it's hard to ignore the kid levitating rocks so once he acknowledges that the Force is a Thing he sees it as something like the wind. He doesn't understand it and he doesn't think it's divine in any sense of the word but it's clearly there.
But he is a smuggler and a space piolet. And space is a bit like the ocean in extremes; vast, not quite comprehensible, and hostile to land dwellers. And unlike the ocean, space is empty and incapable of loving you. Much like modern-day sailors, any one who spends a lot of time in space tends to be very superstitious. Especially if they walk dangerous roads edged in death.
No, Han Solo doesn't pray and he doesn't visit temples unless he's smuggling something there. But he does knock the table twice every time he sits down to a gambling game because it's almost knocking on wood and keeps a tiny charm with four green leaves in the cockpit and the engine room so that the ship runs smoothly and uses the euphemisms all pilots use to avoid the attention of the few things that do wander space without ships.
Han Solo is just a man. He is. He doesn't have the presence of any Skywalker. He doesn't have Ahsoka's presence or deeds to his name. He doesn't have the deeds or the legend Rex came from, the kind of story that grows out of uncertainty. So few in the galaxy actually know where the clones came from or what happened to them. There are birth records and hospital records and legal records of Han Solo, you could get a trace of his life from them. He's so clearly just a man. He is.
And he's too close to Luke to call him a Trickster or fear him, knows Leia too well to paint her on his ship with prayers in every brushstroke. He's too close to them to see Darth Vader as anything other than an asshole, especially on the nights he sits up with Leia and makes her tea while she grieves her planet or the days when he finds hot packs to ease the periodic pain in Luke's wrist where it's attached to his robotic hand. And he's too far from religious to start praying to the rebels' gods when he finally gets close enough to some to learn their names.
In another world he might be a local legend. So and so's grandfather's friend who made the Kessel run in 12 parsecs. Not no one, but not Divine.
Han Solo is too close to gods to deify them. He's too mortal to be one.
He's too well known and to close to them to not pick up some of their awe.
Han Solo dared to shoot He-Who-Brings-Death. Han Solo assisted in the destruction of both Death Stars. Han Solo serves the Princess and argues with the Princess. Han Solo assists the Trickster. Han Solo is a leader, respected by the Rebels and more approachable, being grumpy but affable and of indeterminate ranks.
The Princess loves him and undergoes temporary captivity to save him. The Trickster saves him and trusts him and befriends him. He-Who-Brings-Death took him as a bargaining chip.
There are stories of men and women who loved gods and goddesses and people whose divine rank remains unnamed. There are stories of men and women who fought monsters no mortal could survive and tricked devils and faerie beings and won.
Somewhere in a galaxy far far away, Han Solo stands among their number.
Popular with the troops.
#the bit about leia as a goddess of sacrifice makes me want to cry#it's so sad#goddess leia and god jaig would be terrifying teaming up#han solo#han solo as the friend of gods#leia organa#luke skywalker#star wars#captain rex#ahsoka tano#stormtroopers#darth vader#gods and goddesses#star wars rebellion#deifying your terrifying leaders#there's something potentially heartbreaking if you think about stromtroopers originally being clones#and possibly considering their jedi as luck charms or more than mortal#and then that being transfered to vader#or just being the basis of what turns him from luck charm to death god

I need to like get into actually watching TV shows this is brutal
#need to watch Clone wars Dead Boy detectives and Dunmeshi because they're all “really good shows” I “want to watch” and “will enjoy”#and like I wanna be able to talk about the shows more than the limited non actually watching extent#I've watched the accursed “live action star wars shows” and due to the curse of not having the relevant comparison of Clone wars I like em#man I need to actually see stuff about the Force Witches because they are so interesting conceptually to me#Like woagh the omnipresent life blood of the universe has more than just the jedi and sith interpretation of it!!!#and like you can use it in methods not just raw force#but I've only been exposed directly through Asoka which is very minor amounts at the end#and cuz it's at the end it's mostly just “lets do a whatever plot is neccesary/fight scene stuff”#and then Acolyte WHICH wasn't enouhg and oagh I wanted so much more witch stuff (also didn't like the ending I was mad so much)#so many sacrfices due to the accursed “running out of runtime” and “needing to setup proper story structure for season 2"#tbh I don't even know if Clone Wars going in depth about actually how Force Witchcraft works?#but tbh all I need is to see actual Witches covens function outside of like an exiled doing their own thing one and see the culture of it#tbf it'll be the war aspect of it but that's important!!! and I can go from there
