#‘good Jew’

I wrote a very salty monologue about antisemitism and the idea of a ‘good Jew’ if you want to read it it’s under the cut. Bigots dni
I’m a Good Jew
I’m a good Jew. I’m broke, so I can’t control the banks. I’m so broke that I can’t put a menorah in my window because I can’t afford to fix the window.
Im a good Jew. I tell kids to ask Santa for gifts. I don’t have any decorations on my house, and I take out the Hanukkah bush when non-Jewish guests come over.
I’m a good Jew. I go to my brother in law’s Christmas party where every year without fail his mother brings a casserole that she swears doesn’t have bacon in it. It always does.
I’m a good Jew, yet people still laugh at my nose. They tell me I shouldn’t speak Yiddish because I sound like a bad Jew. They make me explain my stance on conflicts I wasn’t even alive to witness the beginning of.
I’m tired of being a good Jew, because it means nothing. There’s still a swastika on the wall of my synagogue. There’s still death threats in my DM’s. You praise me for looking, sounding, and acting like a “good Jew”, but it’s obvious you still think the only good Jew is a dead Jew.

i don’t think there’s a better example of leftist antisemitism than the time i was explaining antisemitism i had personally experienced and was told “i’m sorry that upset you but also it makes sense to say that. you should read theory”
#this happened back in early october but i still think about it#it wasn’t outright antisemitism like i wasn’t called a kike or anything bit it had to do with someone invoking the dual loyalty trope#in the way where i could tell i was being vetted and they were trying to see if they could consider me a ‘good’ jew#did the person realise they were doing this when it happened? probably not#does that also say something about leftist antisemitism that the person didn’t realise they were being antisemetic#and then other leftists later agreed that actually that is fine and normal and makes sense to say#oh for sure#antisemitism#leftist antisemitism#the way there’s already a tag for that lmao#y’all can rb this btw

In 50 years, we'll have people in classrooms going "If I were at those colleges, I would've opposed the encampments" and then in 52 years we'll have those same people saying it's justified to kill certain Jews.

I just saw someone describe the phenomenon of all kinds of minority groups allying with people who want to kill them too as long as they also want to kill Jews and accepting all the bigotry that goes along with that even when it's directed towards them themselves as "intersectional antisemitism" and um yeah wow I think that is a really useful term.
#I didn't like the rest of the post necessarily so I'm not reblogging it but wow yeah#That's a good term for the phenomena of LGTBQ people allying with the Iranian government that executes gay people and women supporting rape#As resistance and black people using terms coined by the KKK#As long as it's all directed at Jews and being willing to ally with those people who also want to kill them because#Their antisemitism is so strong#Jumblr#Jewblr#antisemitism#leftist antisemitism

I won't be able to finish this drawing before the convention, which will take up my next 5 days.. But I want to talk a little about him.. I've been thinking about golems and Frankenstein, and the trans body, projection and misunderstanding, villainization and death.
The concepts of Frankenstein's monster and the golem have been swimming in my head for a while, and their lore intertwining.. The tragedy of existing being seen as a monster no matter how you try,.. And the Golem, a protector of his people and a servant whose only flaw always rang a bit close to home as an an autistic person-- being too literal in execution of his orders. He's tired and struggles with a yearning for death. His havdalah candles will be out.. The first flame of the week, a spark of starting over again-- The flame brings him fear. As much as he's kept himself together he doesn't know how much longer he can keep doing it, he fears failure- but the fear of what may happen if he's gone is even more terrifying. He's lived a long life, and over time the one who formed him has sculpted him to the golem's own wishes.. From nothing to the man he is- but even with that effort, to outsiders he's still a monster. His skin is different shades of clays from varying riverbeds as his people have travelled.. Golems are unformed, imperfect.. but even as outsides can be polished the insides can still be broken
#i have a million thoughts on him but will only put a little ramble i guess#jewish art#trans art#you ever think about how no matter how hard you try as a trans person at the end of the day a large amount of people will still see you#as trans. doesnt matter how acceptable you look#the same thing is with jewishness for me.. it's been like a damage multiplier on top of transness.#it doesnt matter how nice i try to be or how caring. it doesnt matter how many good things i do im still a jew to a large amount of people#even within the queer community haha :') ive felt it so often in queer communities here.#this little guy is gonna be where i store that experience as a trans jew. it goes in the frankengolem#i like the thought of frankenstein's fear of fire being incorporated into him in his fear of both rest and havdalah..#he doesnt feel safe to rest. he dreads the new week. his entire life he spends in dread even if he wants to protect his loved ones#gently pats the top of his head.. this boy's autistic#long text#bare chest#death#cw death#tw death#just in case

"we need to do a modern remake where Magneto is rwandan or Uyghyur" used to be the refrain and now it's "we need a modern remake where Magneto is palestinean"
and first off no we don't want a modern remake where he's not a holocaust survivor X-men 97 gave us a perfectly good story and people like it even praising how it references the holocaust without being too graphic
and do you really want to talk about which "updated backstory" to give Magneto to be "more with the times" because the answer is there and you are not ready to have this conversation maturely
Might want to stick with what Claremont wrote and keep him and Ashkenazi Jewish and Sinti Romani Holocaust survivor instead of whichever group it's most topical to shift it to
#holocaust appropriation#antisemitism#media antisemtism#jewish erasure#and i'm not saying “make him a former hostage” is a GOOD idea#nor that the two have equal equivalence#but that it'll piss off the people who want to make every Jew they like Palestinean muslim

I am absolutely begging people to stop treating nazism as their big, bad blorbo caricature they can just invoke when they're mildly irritated about people who (they think) have Bad Opinions.
Nazism is not just "any time a Bad Guy does Bad Things." Nazism is not your final jojo stand you can invoke to win discussions or debates. It is a real life ideology that is intrinsically linked to the radical antisemitism it espouses and ignoring that is fundamentally harmful to the point of being radically antisemetic.
Since this is on-topic, I've been reading People Love Dead Jews (I am on chapter two), and I think downplaying nazism is absolutely part of de-emphasizing and reprioritizing antisemitism to make it about everything else but the antisemitism. When nazism is everything, then it can't be fundamentally antisemetic. You won't have to acknowledge that jews are the primary target of nazis and nazism if nazis are everything else. It's not a coincidence, especially seeing how many jews people call nazis. This is part of the dead jew that people love - if your eye is turned away from the fact that jews both exist still and are affected by violence and oppression, you get to say, "the jew is dead!".
Regardless, you will never live in a world without us**

#jumblr#jewish politics#antisemitism tw#personal thoughts tag#i wrote this post after waking up and seeing someone do exactly this (invoking n-zism like it's their jojo stand)#and i drafted it because i don't know if this post will even be helpful#and then i saw MULTIPLE more people do it like twelve hours later so i guess i am going to post this#stop making n-zism your blorbo. it's absolutely not required to do that to make a point#also that book is gutting me. it's been really hard to get through things like that (what dara horn talks about)#especially about anne frank. i can barely unpack all my feelings about it. she (and all jews) just feel like family. *my* family#it feels even more personal now. i used to be paranoid that i wouldn't bee good at adopting the jewish family as *mine*#but the opposite is true. these are *my* people - as close to me as family. and jewish history didn't just 'happen to /them/'

Uggghhh, what is UP with Canada?!
In Vancouver, the Schara Tzedeck synagogue's windows were smashed on April 19th.
In Toronto on April 19, five windows at the Kehillat Shaarei Torah synagogue were smashed with a hammer.
In Toronto on April 26, someone set a sign on fire at Beth Tikvah Synagogue....
....And again on April 28.
In Toronto in May, Jewish community members started escorting a kid to school because he was being bullied by peers who told him, "We're going to do to you what Hamas did to Israel," pushed him, kicked him, threw stones at him, and told him, "we need to kill you." This had been going on for six months. (His family had gone to both the school and police repeatedly at this point and it had only escalated; the kids throwing stones at him on the way to school was new.)
In Toronto on May 17th, Kehillat Shaarei Torah's windows were smashed again.
On May 25th before dawn, two people shot at Bais Chaya Muska, a Jewish girls' school in Toronto.
On May 29th, in the middle of the night, someone shot at the Belz Yeshiva Ketana school in Montreal.
In Vancouver on May 30, someone poured fuel on the doors of the Schara Tzedeck synagogue, then firebombed them.
In an article on June 7, Rabbi Lisa Grushcow of Emanu-El-Beth Sholom synagogue in Montreal said people have yelled “Hitler was right!” and “Jew!” at her congregants as they arrive for Shabbat services and that Jewish kids are being bullied in local schools.
On June 1 in Toronto, a man smashed the window of the Anshei Minsk synagogue with a rock.
On June 3 in Kitchener, someone smashed the front door of Beth Jacob synagogue.
On June 19th in Montreal, three small bullet-like holes were somehow made in the windows of Falafel Yoni. (I don't know, all the articles go out of their way to say they don't know WHAT made the holes.) Falafel Yoni is owned by a Jewish man who was born in Israel, and has appeared on boycott lists despite the owner never having said anything political about Israel.
On the same day, down the street from Falafel Yoni, someone smashed the windows of a nearby gym whose co-owner is Jewish and had also been born in Israel.
On June 30 in Toronto, someone threw stones at the Pride of Israel synagogue, then at Kehillat Shaarei Torah, smashing windows (again) in the latter.
On the weekend of July 27th, a father and son in Toronto were arrested for planning a terrorist attack and murder on behalf of ISIL, which is wild.
On July 29th, someone torched a bus belonging to the Bobov Hassidic school in Toronto.
And smashed the windows of a DIFFERENT Jewish school in Toronto, Leo Baeck Jewish Day School, and set it on fire.
On July 31 in Toronto, guess which synagogue had three signs set on fire? That's right: Kehillat Shaarei Torah.
Plus one sign set afire at Toronto's Temple Sinai Congregation the same night, presumably by the same arsonist, who might even have been the stone-hurler of June 30.
There are probably ones I missed. Just putting this list together took like three hours, though. I kept having to go, "Wait, surely that can't be the same synagogue AGAIN" and "they only mention the closest major intersection, which one was this?!" and "that can't be a different one, how many windows did they smash??" and go look for more sources. Plus a couple of articles were giving conflicting dates for one of the incidents.
And nobody ever gives actual dates, they just say shit like, "Blah blah blah was reported Monday...." so I have to look at the article date and then look at a damn calendar.
I went back as far as April because everything I found was referring to earlier incidents. Back to April. February and March were relatively quiet, at least in the news. Although interestingly, February is when the most hate crimes in Toronto had been reported, at least as of ... oh, I see.
As of March.
On the bright side, I did discover that Kehillat Shaarei Torah consistently has great jokes on its sign.

I think one of the easiest ways for me to mistrust a book and all it’s saying is to see how wrong it gets history about Jews.
This came about because I’m reading a book on indigenous activism and theory and it’s really good!
Too bad I can’t trust anything about it because I’m their little “history of colonialism” section they went “the three largest religions of the world-Christianity, Islam, and Judaism (collectively called the Abrahamic religions”.
Bestie. Jews are .2% of the global population. If you’d done a basic google search it would’ve told you the largest religious groups are Christianity, Islam, irreligion, Hinduism, and Buddhism, each of which have over 5% of the global population as adherents. It takes about five seconds to check that and see if you’re being accurate.
If your book is trying to be a reputable source of information and you can’t even put 5 seconds of effort into basic factual double-checking, you are not worthy of my trust about anything else you say.
#judaism#jumblr#it’s a good book otherwise!!#I was super into it#and then they did this#and also implied that Jews believe they’re superior to others#and that Judaism controlled Europe and the Middle East#they lumped it in with Christianity and Islam so it’s harder to see as blatantly wrong#but if you can’t do a second of detangling judaism from Christianity#in your book about decolonization#you are. Maybe not as decolonized as you thought

There was never going to be any form of Jewish self defense that the world would deem acceptable, and there was never going to be any act of anti-Jewish terrorism that the world would deem unacceptable.
There is nothing Israel could ever do to defend itself that wouldn’t be accused of going too far, of being “way beyond self defense.” There is no method of Israeli self defense that wouldn’t be maligned as “genocide.”
Inversely, there is no atrocity that could ever be committed against Jews that wouldn’t be denied/excused/justified. There is no level of violence against Jews, however gruesome, however blatant in its goal of genocide and targeting innocents, however many children and babies are burned alive and kidnapped, that wouldn’t be justified as “resistance,” as something that the Jews must have provoked, as the very least that Jews deserve, as something that the terrorists were driven to and couldn’t possibly be expected not to do.
No act of violence against Jews was ever not going to be called “resistance,” and no response from Israel was ever not going to be called a “genocide.”
The only Jewish country in the world was never not going to be maligned as the worst country in the world.
For fuck’s sake, use some critical thinking skills.
#for thousands of years everyone thought they had a really good reason to hate and kill the Jews#that they were even righteous for it#you are not immune to propaganda#antisemitism#israel#jumblr#media bias#critical thinking#critical thinking skills

Neil gaiman is a Zionist :(
this is so funny because if you google "neil gaiman zionist" nearly all of the links are to unsourced tumblr posts or responses to a single tweet from 2015 that just acknowledges Israel's existence
I see gaiman has once again committed the heinous crime of Being Jewish When Israel Is In The News
#*gasp* somebody actually checking for sources before succumbing to hearsay and speculation???#must be a foreign concept to you anon#sorry but like im not just gonna take someone's word for it#ESPECIALLY when 'zionist' gets bandied about to mean 'jew i don't want you to like'#asks#anons#neil gaiman#antisemitism#ALSO like so what??? the post i reblogged is about him dealing with antisemitism#unless you think jews you don't like deserve antisemitism? 🤔#fascinating#also ive never even given my OWN opinion on this blog#for all you know I'm a zionist lmaooo#i purposefully keep all my own thoughts on the subject far away from this blog#ooooooh scaryyyy a jew who won't tell you if they're a Good One or a Bad One
