You can also reverse this concept when we see people treating real people (often celebrities) like fictional characters.

Real people are incredibly complex and multifaceted creatures and flattening them into 2-dimensional cartoons based on the personas they present to the world is wrong. These are people, and sometimes they make mistakes, but unlike a fictional character who is meant to tell a story, those mistakes are not defining characteristics.

Stop treating Celebrities actual mistakes and low points as character arcs.

It is also the reason we see so much Real Person Shipping (which is not okay on so many levels).

I think a lot of unjustified hate towards fictional characters comes from people who treat fictional characters like real human beings who exist in our universe.

For instance, Princess Bubblegum, if looked at through the lenses of our current morality and culture, is a horrible person. But she does not exist in our culture or experience our morality. She exist in a universe and experiences situations that will hopefully never befall us. Furthermore she is not a human being, she is a character meant to tell a story. If a person were to rise to power in our world and do the things Bubblegum did that person would be in the wrong. But that is because that real person would be hurting other real people. Princess Bubblegum hurts nobody because she exists within a fictional story, the only ‘people’ she hurts are other fictional characters.

There is a reason we like morally grey characters in fiction, but not in real life. And I am begging fandoms to stop pushing real life morality on fictional characters.

Ryuk is shy, quiet, and socially awkward, but his eyes light up and the crease of his perpetually worried frown disappears when he gets to talk about his music. Unfortunately, NOMOREMORSE has only 235 subscribers on youtube, which is a travesty because their shit goes hard as fuck.
