Telugu Baalasiksha with Manu
Part 1 | Part 2📍| Part 3 | Part 4
Hello and we're back! Omg the response I got for the first part (where we covered vowels) was deafening, we're tagging a lot more people and even @aasthuu has started her own Bangla Shikkha Prokolpo📝📝 which I'm loving so far!
I'd love to see y'all writing whatever we do in every post so that you'll remember. As my grandma says, "Whatever curves you think you'll remember, you will not. So write them down." Just reblog my Baalasiksha posts with your input/homework/doubts or mention me or tag it as 'telugu with manu' and we can work on it together❤️
Today, we are going to get to our second checkpoint - consonants aka "hallulu" like " हल्लुलु "
Consonants
(there are a lot of these so buckle up, don't freak out, i can give you tips to remember them too)
క = क = ka (write it like an S and put a tick over it)
ఖ = ख = kha (write a coil type 2 but extend the end upwards, put a reverse tilak at the bottom)
గ = ग = ga (an inverted U and put a tick over it)
ఘ = घ = gha (write the vowel 'ఎ' and put a tick over it, then stick a follow up curve like a tilted half U. top it off with a reverse tilak at the bottom)
ఙ = ञ = inya (write the vowel (short o), then put a perpendicular sign) ****in telugu inya is used instead of gya, so "gyan/ज्ञान" is pronounced "inyan"
చ = च = cha (like chair) (start with a half च but take it for another bump, top it off with a tick - i'll show dw)
ఛ = छ = chha (like "achhoo!") (write చ, put a reverse tilak at the bottom)
జ = ज = ja (hard g) (write the vowel ఒ (short o), then put a coil at the neck)
ఝ = झ = jha (i'll write and show down below)
ఞ = इणि = ini (write ఇ and put a perpendicular sign at the neck)
ట = ट = hard t ("tip") (i'll write and show down below)
ఠ = ठ = ttha (force the hh sound also with the hard t) (write ठ without the stem, top it off with a tick, also dot in the belly)
డ = ड = da ("don't") (write ఉ without the stem or the rod bisecting it through, top it off with a tick)
ఢ = forceful ढ ("dhol") (write ఉ without the stem or the rod bisecting it through, top it off with a tick and reverse tilak at the bottom)
ణ = ण = roll your 'na' (a flipped '3' and make a standing coil, i'll show)
త = त = "tabla" (i'll show an easier way to write below)
థ = थ = "thaali" (a reverse heart, top off with a tick mark, reverse tilak at the bottom, dot in the belly)
ద = द = "the" (a reverse heart, top off with a tick mark)
ధ = ध = like a bang, dhum (a reverse heart, top off with a tick mark, reverse tilak at the bottom)
న = न = "no" (i'll show an easier way to write below)
ప = प = pa (write the vowel ఎ (e) put a tick mark without touching the body) ****do not confuse for the vowel ఎ
ఫ = फ but without ph emphasis = fa (write the letter ప and put a reverse tilak at the bottom) ****do not confuse for the vowel ఎ
బ = ब = ba (write the letter ఋ but without the 2 trailing half 'U's) ****do not confuse for ఋ (ru) or ఒ (short o) or జ (hard g)
భ = भ = bha (write the letter బ, top it off with a tick mark, put a reverse tilak at the bottom) ****do not confuse for ఋ (ru) or ఒ (short o) or జ (hard g)
మ = म = ma (write the vowel ఎ (e) put a tick mark touching it, put a trailing tilted half U, i'll show below) ****do not confuse for ఘ (gha) or ప (pa)
య = य = ya (write the letter మ but with a bigger circle) ****do not confuse for ఘ (gha) or ప (pa) or మ (ma)
ర = र = ra (don't roll it) (a circle with a tick, easy peasy)
ల = ल = la (a bulging U coiled on the top left end)
వ = व = va (write the vowel ఎ (e) put a tick mark touching it) ****do not confuse for ఘ (gha) or ప (pa) or మ (ma) or య (ya) or vowel ఎ (e)
శ = स्य = sya (or sa as in "Sally") (sort of like a half 8 with a tick, i'll show y'all below)
ష = ष = sha (write the vowel ఎ (e) put a tick mark without touching the body, put a small flipped comma/small '|' beneath. it can be written in another way, i'll show) ****do not confuse for ఘ (gha) or ప (pa) or మ (ma) or య (ya) or vowel ఎ (e) or వ (va)
స = स = sa (write న except don't let the tick mark touch the body) ****do not confuse for న (na)
హ = ह = ha (write ప (pa) and drag a reverse sigma 'σ' from the body's top)
ళ = the ल equivalent of ण (ळ in Marathi) = roll your la (sort of like a half 8 again, with a tick, will show) ****do not confuse for శ (sya)
క్ష = क्ष = ksha (write క (ka) and draw 2 and a half 'U's below) ⁘⁘⁘ so we're technically writing it like क्-षा
AAAAAAND we're done! (phew)
Okay that was long, 35 consonants and some sounds that are inexistent in English. These can be confusing at times, but i really want you all (whoever is planning on sticking through this and learn Telugu) to write every letter down till you can remember how to read it/pronounce it. Reading should come as first priority as you'll seldom be asked to write only in Telugu, but reading can unlock a lot of lingual fun. So make sure of that my honeydrips.
Here's a picture encompassing all the consonants we have learnt today, written by hand so that we can have a good idea of the shapes outside of print.
homework
write this down at least 5 times (the 5th time try to have learnt it by heart), post it and tag me or dm me/send via asks
so that's it for today phew sorry baccho aaj class thoda lamba gaya😜 aur kya haal chaal, did you understand what we did yesterday? take care ha, i need to go scramble for french and maybe some kathak

LEARNING URDU: A SMALL GUIDE
so these are some parallels between urdu and hindi:
क = ق/ک (kaaf/ bada kaaf)
ग = گ (gaaf)
ख = خ (khe)
घ = غ (gaiin)
च = چ (che)
ज = ج (jeem)
ट = ٹ (te) (tamatar wala te)
ड = ڈ (daal) (daak wala d)
त = ت (te)
द = د (dal)
न = ن (noon)
प = پ (pe)
फ = ف (fe)
ब = ب (be)
म = م (meem)
य = ی (ye)
र = ر (re)
ल = ل (laam)
व = و (wao) (ik please pjs mat maarna)
श = ش (sheen)
स = س/ث (se/seen)
while hindi and urdu are very similar verbally, there are many things to note while learning urdu:
there are different h's in urdu with different purposes so is the matter with s's z's kh's k's a's and g's and we'll get into them later.
there are matras is urdu as well like:
for "आ" there's "ا" (alif, also a letter) written as بات (बात)
for "ऊ" and "ओ" there's "و" (wao) written like طوطا (तोता) جوتا (जूता)
for ई there's "ی" (ee) written in a word is "چیز" (चीज़) and if used at the end of the word it's like the original "ی"
for ए there's "ے" (e) used in the middle of a word like like "ई" and if used at the end it's like the original "ے"
now for the small matras like "अ, इ, उ" there's "zabr, zer and pesh" respectively
zabr is a small dash on the top of the letter like پَل (पल) there isn't much use of zabr in urdu, it's much more prevalent in arabic
zer is a small dash beneath the letter like تِل (तिल) unlike zabr, zer is everywhere in urdu. everywhere.
pesh is like a small horizontal "و" on the top of the letter like سُن (सुन) frequently used.
Morphing letters and other things I'll cover in the next post otherwise this one will be too long hehe. thank you for reading.

Shivoham painting and text by Arghya Dipta, Bengal
This painting draws its subject from the non dualistic philosophy of the Shaiva and Shakta Agamas where the individual being (जीव) is none other than Shiva himself in its true essence. Owing to the play of Shiva’s power of Absolute Freedom ( स्वातन्त्र्य), his infinite Consciousness voluntarily contracts into a finite being or Purusha who is verily an Anu (अणु) or tiny unit. To effect the creation of the dualistic universe, he himself reduces his omniscience, omnipotence and omnipresence to a limited state of knowledge, power and presence. However, even in this limited state, his power of infinite consciousness is not exhausted as it only remains in a latent condition. This is to say that every single individual in the universe, being Shiva himself, houses the totality of the cosmic energy, though s/he is him/herself unaware of it. The spiritual discipline of Tantra aims at the gradual unfolding of this infinte energy latent in our psycho-physical constitution. It is not through the rejection of the body and the material world but a proper harnessing of their vast reservoir of power that this Yoga is possible which aims at the complete integration of consciousness, mind, energy and matter.This is to say that unlike as in the monistic Vedantic system, the Absolute in the Tantras is not a static inert being but is vested with a vibrantly dynamic energy. The entire play of involution and evolution centres round this core essence dynamism in Shiva’s being, which in the Shaiva doctrines of Kashmir is variously identified as Chiti, Shakti, Vimarsha, Vak, Spanda, Satta, Sara, Sphuratta. Being such, it is the very pulsating heart of Shiva. ।She is the inherent principle of Pulsation (sphuratta), the great Existence (mahasatta) which is beyond time and space. Being the core essence of Shiva, the Supreme Lord, She is known to be His very beating Heart.Being the sole ground of Shiva’s existence, this Shakti and Shiva are absolutely identical. As the Spanda school of Kashmir Shaiva explains, when the pulsation of this dynamic consciousness occurs in a state of equilibrium, Shiva seems to be in a condition of stillness. In other words, even when the Absolute seems to be motionless or purely transcendental, he is never bereft of the dynamism of Shakti since Shakti Is his very self. However in creation, the one universal Shakti displays multiple modes which evolve into grosser forms through the four stages of speech, since it is as Speech or Vac (वाक) that the dynamism of Shakti operates. In course of this evolution the entire scheme of fifty one letters from A(अ) to Ha (ह) is produced that are grouped under the eight Varga Matrikas.1. Brahmi- the Ka-Group (कवर्ग) presiding over the letters क ख ग घ ङ2. Maheshvari- the Cha-Group (चवर्ग) presiding over च छ ज झ ञ3. Kaumari- the Ta-Group (टवर्ग), presiding over ट ठ ड ढ ण4. Vaishnavi - the Ta-Group (तवर्ग) presiding over त थ द ध न5. Varahi- the Pa-Group (पवर्ग) presiding over प फ ब भ म6. Aindri -the Ya-Group (यवर्ग) presiding over य र ल व7. Chamunda - the Sha-Group (शवर्ग ) presiding over श स ष ह8. Mahalakshmi - the Avarga (अवर्ग), from अ to अःWhat was referred to earlier as the process of Shiva’s playful self-finitization into the individual self, is actually effected by the emergence of these eight modes of Shakti into grosser forms. As subtle Speech solidifies into gross matter, these macrocosmic goddesses assume the form of the basic crude instincts that dominate the microcosmic Shiva or the individual being. Brahmi becomes lust (काम), Maheshvari anger (क्रोध), Kaumari greed (लोभ), Vaishnavi attachment (मोह), Varahi ego (मद), Aindri jealousy (मात्सर्य), Chamunda sin (पाप) and Lakshmi virtue (पुण्य), all of which keep Him bound within the cycle of phenomenal existence. Every moment they torment him and drive his Karmic courses so that he is reduced to an enslaved Pashu. However, with proper spiritual discipline, the limited Anu rises to realise the true nature of these Matrikas and they take an inward and subjective turn and metamorphose into modes of his inner power of unlimited Freedom (स्वातन्त्र्य). It is then that these very negative impulses transform into higher cosmic powers that participate in the infinite play of creation. All the Matrikas then seem to serve the Supreme Shakti or Shiva’s Heart with their respective functions in her play.Brahmi or Lust is realised to be a mode of Srishti-Shakti or that very power which is responsible for giving birth to the universe. Maheshvari or Anger is none other than Samhara-Shakti or the power that destroys the universes after each periodic cyclic course. Similarly Kaumari or Greed is the power that desires to manifest the multiplicity of the universe. Vaishnavi or Attachment is the power called Sthiti-Shakti since attachment to the world is alone responsible for the sustainance of it. . Varahi or Ego holds erect the sense of Individuality, Aindri causes various actions and reactions in creatures to drive the world motion. Chamunda and Laxmi as Paapa and Punya are the two poles of this world cycle.In this painting, the two columns display the two states of Shiva. The lower column has at its centre a figure of Shiva held in heavy chains as he is but the microcosmic Shiva reduced to a finite self perpetually being tortured by the Matrikas. Brahmi as Lust is constantly hitting him with the sugarcane bow and flower arrows of Kamadeva, Maheshvari in her destructive fury is hurling a huge stone at him. KaumarI or Greed has in her hands a fishing hook that tempts the Pashus only to embrace misery and sufferings at the end. Vaishnavi as Moha ties him with her noose. Varahi with her club beats him down to a tiny being. Aindri or Jealousy burns him within. Chamunda and Laxmi as Paapa and Punya stretch the chains that bind him to entangle him more and more into this bondage.However in the upper column, the same Shiva, with the shackle broken has regained his supreme awareness of himself as the eternally free Lord who has all his five powers of Cit, Ananda, Iccha, Jnana and Kriya fully unfolded and represented by his five faces whose expressions verily correspond to the functions of these powers. In his thirty six hands he holds emblems representing the thirty six elements that constitute the universe. 1. A lamp: Prakasha or the Shivatattva2. A mirror: Vimarsha or the Shaktitattva3. A closed eye: the Sadashiva Tattva with the objective universe concealed in subjective awareness4. An open eye: the Ishvara Tattva with the objective universe patent in its subjective awareness.5. Two eyes: the Shuddhavidya or the predominance of both subjectivity and objectivity.6. A pot: Maya or that which gives an objective form to the formless self separating it from itself as a ‘This’ or ‘Idam’ to be perceived externally7. A noose: Raga8. A book: Vidya or limited knowledge9. A tiny bowl: Kalaa or limited capacity10. A sword: Kaala or time, that which severs11. A goad: Niyati12. A phallus: Purusha or the Self-unit13. A triangular female genital: Prakriti or the three Gunas14. The Sun: Mahattattva15. A head: Ego16. The moon: Mind17. Nose18. Tongue19. Eyes20. Fingers: Skin that touches21. Ears22. The speaking organs23. Hand24. Leg25. Anus26. Sexual organs27. A veena: sound28. A chamara : Touch29. A brush: Form30. A cup of wine: taste31. Incense: smell32. A hexagon: Space33. A circle: Wind34. A triangle: Fire35. A crescent: Water36. A square: EarthAll has been possible because of the realization of the Great Heart of Shiva, his Shakti whose divine pulsation has caused the integration of the whole universe into his being. The eight Matrikas serve her with their respective gifts. Brahmi with the flower of creation, Maheshvari with the remains of dissolution, Kaumari offers her the juicy fruits that tempt all creatures, Vaishnavi with the music of her flute of world enchantment, Varahi nourishes the individual ego only to be sacrificed to her at the end. A fragrant incense rises from fire of jealousy that Aindri burns. Chamunda offers all vices as a pass time drink and all virtues are served as a lamp by Lakshmi.

Shivoham ॐ This painting draws its subject from the non dualistic philosophy of the Shaiva and Shakta Agamas where the individual being (जीव) is none other than Shiva himself in its true essence. Every moment they torment him and drive his Karmic courses so that he is reduced to an enslaved Pashu.However, with proper spiritual discipline, the limited Anu rises to realise the true nature of these Matrikas and they take an inward and subjective turn and metamorphose into modes of his inner power of unlimited Freedom (स्वातन्त्र्य). Pronouncing nasals in Hindi
Hindi alphabet is very user friendly, in that most words are pronounced the way they are written. However, nasals in the middle of the word can be tricky for a language learner at first, at least until you internalize the whole phonologically arranged alphabet table.
Basically, the nasal sound marked by anusvār (अं), is pronounced in the same place in your mouth where the next consonant is pronounced:
अं + क / ख / ग / घ = ङ, as in गंगा [gaṅgā]
अं + च / छ / ज / झ = ञ, as in पंजा [pañjāb]
अं + ट / ठ / ड / ढ = ण, as in अंडा [aṇḍā]
अं + त / थ / द / ध = न, as in अंधेरा [andherā]
अं + प / फ / ब / भ = म, as in नींबू [nīmbū]
The rest are a bit more random:
अं + र / ल / स = न, as in संसार [sansār]
अं + य / श = ञ, as in संयुक्त [sañyukt], though also [sãyukt]
अं + व = म, as in संवत [samvat]
अं + ह = ङ, but I could find an example, sorry.
However, स्वयं = म, ie. [svayam]

(This post is for Hindi speakers)।

(Hindi Day)
Sep 14, 2021
(Hindī Day) is celebrated every year on 14 September, marking the declaration of the Hindi language as one of the official languages of Union Government of India. On 14 September 1949, Hindi was adopted as one of the official languages of India.
11 Interesting facts about Hindi: 1. While September 14 is celebrated as हिन्दी दिवस (National Hindi Day) in India, January 10 is celebrated as विश्व हिंदी दिवस or World Hindi Day every year, with an aim to promote the use of the Hindi language worldwide! 2. On January 10, 1975, the First World Hindi Conference was held in Nagpur, Maharashtra. In 2006, January 10 was declared as (World Hindi Day)!
3. Hindi got its name from the persian word 'Hind' meaning "land of the Indus River" 4. Hindi is taught as a subject in 176 universities around the world, including 45 American universities! 5.
