Idk I just watched the first one sooo, anyways, this isn't propaganda i just couldn't remember if you said they needed to be Canon so I put what I rembered about that here, idk I'm proboboly just gonna send the propaganda in the ask box at a later date 

They eat people:) venom is an alien symbiote and Eddie is the host and they have melded together into one being. They care for and protect each other and are so intimately intwined they are only ever separated by force. Also they’re both absolute disasters and they periodically bite and eat the heads off their enemies.

Ive previously only heard the term "murder husbands" refer to hannigram so it feels flitting. The whole series culminated with a murder they did together bathing in blood. 

The show and ship that coined murder husbands. It’s in the text in s3 from a journalist side character. They do Many murders either together or as a message to each other. Usually this involves turning the dead body into an art piece. The show ends with them killing a guy together in a slo mo scene backed by porno music.

They're both batshit and manipulative.

ALRIGHT so they're not canonically together but it is HEAVILY implied and they have some sort of fucked up psychosexual obsession with each other. in the later parts of the show they start committing murder and cannibalism together and they're soooo unhinged but it's awesome

The show begins with Will working for the FBI and trying to catch Hannibal, but because Hannibal is so intrigued by the way Will is able to see the world and the motives behind the killings so easily, it becomes a game of Hannibal isolating Will even more from the people around and seducing him to try and kill. By the time Will starts embracing the side of him that Hannibal sees, he starts oulling back and trying to distance himself so that when the time comes for Will to fully embrace himself and Hannibal, no one really suspects what they have planned.

venom the last dance is the third movie in the venom series and people who haven't watched the movies are probably wondering whats going on. whoever you're following has probably posted or reblogged some sort of eddie brock x venom thing. yes of course. mlm ships are popular and theyre the main characters. of course theyre gonna get shipped. just like stucky or other hot main male characters. nothing really special about these guys. right?

wrong! because as opposed to the other ones being non-canon ships where we just look at everything and say "thats gay" or look at it through shipping tinted glasses, symbrock is a bit special.

first movie moments. im skipping smaller moments and i'll try to not write out the whole plot.

eddie and venom go through a whole car chase scene on a motorbike, and the moment eddie calls him cool, they get his by a car. often interpreted as venom losing focus from the praise

-omg why would that lead to venom losing focus?? because venom, on its planet, is a loser. bottom of the barrel. an outcast. and someone called it cool. venom sees that eddie is also a bit of a loser on his planet. theyre two losers together. Eddie asks why he doesnt just kill him and hop to another host, but venom says that hes a good match (other bodies reject the symbiote, and die from organ failure/eaten from the inside) and venom is "starting to like him" venom also gets a bit stuck on the moment that eddie says we instead of i. its both of them. together.

later eddie finds out his organs were failing (venom was starving and was working on fixing it) and when they get seperated the way he acts is kind of framed like a bad breakup. its not "im free from this parasite! yippie!" its "i trusted you and you hurt me. we're done" sort of breakup. venom tries to say he was trying to fix it but eddie ignores it (not the exact words but if you look at it you'll get it)

eddie gets taken away by the bad guys and venom hops on eddies ex and they reunite. and its not just reunite.

fun fact! theres a sort of deleted scene where eddie asks "who was i kissing just then?" and she says "mostly me" and then we hear venoms voice saying "well actually it was mostly me!" ALSO at the end of the movie, she says it was venoms idea. this was venom and eddie making out. not eddie and his ex. they do not get back together. she has a new boyfriend and they've moved in together so its serious.

venoms original purpose as to why the symbiotes are on earth was as a scouting party for an invasion force. venom changes his mind on being on the invasion part. eddie asks what REALLY made him change his mind "you did eddie."

also after the movie was in theaters they made an additional romcom trailer to promo the dvd/blueray release. the movie. framed as a romcom. im not kidding. on sonys official youtube. for both movies.

speaking of both movies, the second one has them breaking up! full on divorce after fighting and arguing!! very sad. and then venom goes to a rave (october, there are costumes, hes fully transformed) and says "i am out! of the eddie closet!" HES COMING OUT OF THE CLOSET. one person at the rave has a mask on that says "kiss me" and venom says "sorry no, not my type" THEN WHAT IS YOUR TYPE HUH??? MEN?? SWEATY LOSER GUYS??? his hosts keep failing because theyre not as compatible as eddie. and after having fun venom is sad and wishes eddie could've seen him. they of course, get back together* after some apologizes and because they need to fight a serial killer who also has a symbiote (carnage) because previously, they went to interview him, he insulted eddie, venom got mad on eddies behalf and grabbed him, resulting in getting bit, and that spawned a new symbiote from the blood. also the serial killer, (cletus kassidy) went to bust out his girlfriend who upon seeing his tentacles breaking her glass cage, called it hot.

*when they get reunited (anne helps out again) theres no kiss this time, and annes fiancee, after seeing them fight, says "those two need some serious couples counseling"

after a big climactic fight and mutual reassuring that theyre a perfect match for one another, they flee to some random place in mexico where they sort of have a love confession. theres an extended deleted version of it but i think many of us think they cut it down to save it for the third movie. also they get transported to the mcu in the post-credit and then re-appear in the post-credit of spider-man where theyre just sitting at a bar asking the bartender about the blip and thanos. venom decides to go skinny dip but they get transported back to their universe. net zero gain.

THE THIRD MOVIE

hasnt come out yet. but the promotional things. the trailer. my god the tiktoks and twitter clips?? WHY IS THE TIKTOK VIDEO CAPTION VENOM X EDDIE 4EVER??? HUH???? WHAT DO YOU WANT WITH ME!?!?! IF I GET QUEERBAITED IM GONNA EXPLODE WHY IS ONE OF THEM FRAMED LIKE A COUPLES COUNSELING HELP GUIDE.

Slow crawl, but I've been reading "No Longer Human" by Osamu Dazai. It's really good but it has some REALLY fucked up content in it so please only read it if you're able to handle that stuff (i say ignoring my own advice)

Another one I've been slowly going through since the end of last year is "Shiver," Junji Ito's collection of some of his shorter stories. It's all horror manga and contains a lot of disturbing imagery and themes.

Part of the reason I'm taking so long to read both these books, despite them both not being that long, is because of all the goddamn OFMD fics ive been reading ever since the first season ended 😭😭😭 i may be slightly (extremely) obsessed with this show ok after all the years of queerbaiting and my pessimism towards us ever getting mainstream queer love stories and representation i was FINALLY PROVEN WRONG and it means so much to me.

also it means i get to savour those other 2 books longer and get more of my money's worth so it's a win-win

3 ships: Huh, well, I don’t tend to write a lot of ships myself but they’re certainly fun to read! I’d say Thrawn/Pellaeon (Star Wars) is a favorite, then maybe Sherlock/Watson (ACD Holmes specifically), and Thrawn/Car’das. Honorary mention goes to Thrawn/Nuso Esva!

1st ever ship: Well, it would have to be Steve/Tony (Marvel); that’s the fic I first started reading and that was my friend who recommended all that fic’s favorite, so that’s what I read! It was fun - back in the Avengers-Found-Family days, when I could still stand the movies.

Last song: had one of my somewhat random character playlists on while working this afternoon, so it’s Tell God and the Devil by Solas.

Last movie: Knives Out, which I finally got around to watching while home over Thanksgiving. It was a good one!

Currently reading: Just finished 1491 and 1493 by Charles Mann - nonfiction about Native Americans before and after Columbus. I’m hoping to pick up Star Wars: Rogue Planet - I finally found someone who’s read it and they enjoyed it, so I don’t have to worry it’s going to be unreadably terrible and I can finally get the lore I’m using for D&D from the source instead of Wookiepedia!

Currently watching: Whatever episode of Rebels I think will get me through my writer’s block on this one fic. Ezra’s serious voice is so hard to capture!

Currently consuming: a nice herbal tea

Currently craving: nothing at the moment, but I’ve been off and on craving pizza for a few weeks and haven’t gotten around to fulfilling it. Yet.

Let me tell you about the nightmare I had last night 😂

Well, I dreamed that Venom 3 had finally been released to theaters and streaming services simultaneously and... it was bad. It was so bad!!! It was bad, guys. I was just so freaking ?? confused ?? disappointed ?? It was just. Bad. 😂

I remember seeing some details of the movie in my dream. There was only one Symbrock scene in the whole movie (you know how in TV shows they kind of separate the male characters people are shipping with each other as a poor attempt to stop the gay shipping--even characters that canonically care deeply about each other, but that’s besides the point. lol That’s what totally happened with Symbrock inside my nightmare. Even sharing the same body their banter and meaningful scenes didn’t happen and they barely even TALKED to each other in this movie except for one moment), and it was a nice little scene between them, just Venom showing their care for Eddie by getting him out of the rain. (In my dream they were living on the streets 😭 and Eddie was sleeping in a street alley, and so he wouldn’t get wet in the rain, Venom covered him and walked inside a church and got Eddie to sleep on of the benches. That was so beautiful?? Honestly the best moment. That was so sweet, there’s something for a good angsty fanfic right there. Or. For the actual Venom 3, but, let the rest of the movie be good. Not like in my dream). 

Then the movie just abruptly ended in the middle of a fight scene. The fight wasn’t even over when the credits rolled in. And even Tom Hardy was embarrassed about how it turned out 💀. And he said excuses how most of the movie had to be cut, and I was speculating that it was because it was gay. Or was it Tom himself who said something like that? I don’t remember but yes, the movie was way shorter because the rest of the good stuff was just Symbrock and Sony was grossed out by the alien x human gay love cooties.

It was such an insane nightmare. 😂😱

All the speculating, all the theories and ideas went out the window almost as bad as the Supernatural series finale and we were just left like “that was it?”. Nothing we speculated about happened, and it was just a random fight. I don’t even think they were fighting another symbiote; I think it was just a few random men?? And the movie was super short! It was shorter than LTBC. I think something ridiculous like 30mins or 45mins, I don’t exactly know, but it was super short; certainly in my dream it felt like it was only those two scenes 💀 Plus this one: Dylan Brock was there, but he was never birthed by Anne in my nightmare hey at least that’s a little better lmao; he was just a son from a random one-night stand Eddie had 15 years ago 💀 Which is why the kid never contacted him--the mom didn’t care because he was just  the product of a random one-night stand (I don’t even think he was anything special; just a kid Eddie never knew existed). He had appeared suddenly in Eddie’s life and that was one of the things Eddie had to deal with. Eddie was homeless, and now suddenly a father to a 15-year-old. It could have been a good movie, but that seemed to be random ideas in the movie, and Venom seemed like a background character and was only there to get in that fight scene and that was it.

At least my mind conjured that tender and sad Symbrock moment to make up for the random awfulness of the rest of the nightmare. 

Now that I think about it, I could maybe write the details I remember from the nightmare movie into a fanfic and make it work 😂 I’ll try, but I’m already writing another Symbrock fic and it’s totally abandoned. But I’ll get to it. 

Venom 3 is not even scripted yet and here I am stress dreaming about it 😂

Now that the weather is getting nice, the animal/plant lover part of my personality is coming out more. I miss hatching duck eggs and now I finally have a garden!! I work in a school and the kids are getting worse now that it’s nice out (but the lil ones are still cute- first grade is my saving grace). I’m itching to bake something, I haven’t had free reign in the kitchen in so long. Also resident evil 8 somehow is bringing out the mom in me??? Seeing baby rose made my brain malfunction and now I’m in mama bear mode.

You are too old to be a student, but you thought that since you have experience working in school you could apply there. 

Charles could tell immedietely (due to his power) that you are a goodhearted, generous human and he thought you would be a perfect fit for the school.

And for him.

He showed you around the school himself and watched how you acted with the younger kids. 

This just proved to him that you belonged there.

By the end of your tour he already decided that you would be staying, and that he was very interested in getting to know even more. 

How he describes you to his friend/family: 

He was describing you to the others at the school before they were introduced to you.

Charles referred to you as, skilled with kids, maternal, caring, and kind 

And though you come off a bit shy at first you are genuinely a good person and would get along with everyone you me.

When describing your looks and personality it was clear to the others that he definitely already had a thing for you. 

They were all a bit surprised when they met you, that you were exactly how he described. 

Best Friend: 

After being at the school for a while, you grew very close to Jean. Though she is a lot younger than you, you felt a sisterly affection for her. She feels calm and comfortable around you and appreciates your friendship and how much you care for her and the others.

Venom: 

Wellll there is only really one person to ship you with lmao, so of course that would be Eddie. 

Eddie would be a very cute and caring boyfriend and would absolutely adore your personality, finding your more maternal side beautiful. He loves that you have a green thumb and love animals (he made sure that Venom knew to NEVER eat he pets or animals you brought home). Venom loves that you bake and “tries” to help. It is a rare occasion that you end up with a fully finished product when he does.

How you meet/their first impression of you:

You were getting harassed by some jerks in an alleyway.

And Eddie came to your defense.

Before you knew it, Venom made himself known, and well..that was certainly surprising. 

Eddie could tell you were shocked, but was confused since you weren’t exactly afraid. 

He made you promise to never tell anyone what you saw, and you agreed. 

Eddie got good vibes from you (Venom also agreed you passed the “vibe check” lol).

He ended up reaching out to you a little later one because he could not stop thinking about you and how kind you were.

As well as the fact that you were not afraid of him, that was a first, and that must mean you are pretty special. 

How he describes you to his friend/family:

Eddie doesn’t have many people in his life, but whenever he is telling people about his girlfriend he boasts about you.

“She’s really cool, kind, caring, she bakes a lot and planted this great garden in the backyard. She’s really cute too, comes off kind of shy at first but is really friendly and great when you get to know her.” 

Sometimes Venom has to tell Eddie to shut up because he wont stop talking about you. 

Best Friend:

Venom. Lol, he finds himself to be very fond of you and will protect you at any cost, the same as Eddie. He also chastises and will hurt Eddie if he ever hurts your feelings on accident or says something stupid. Venom often tells Eddie that he liked you more. Eddie isn’t really that surprised. 

But also, outside the symbiote, you and Anne get along pretty well and she is so glad that Eddie found someone like you to be with.

Actually, they’re both very private with their affections. Most people probably wouldn’t even know that they’re in a relationship based on how they act around each other in public.

Same thing with the first response! Neither of them are really flamboyant with the way they show their affection!

❥: who is more likely to plan something big for valentine's day?

Jon.. but not because Jon initially planned it, but because he was goaded by Jervis, Edward, and Harley to throw something for himself and his bf. Granted, Jon and Bane’s definition of “big” for Valentine’s day is to bake a cake and go to a nice hibachi restaurant, but they both end up having a really fun time!

Neither! Jon doesn’t really care that much for handholding, and while Bane is much more open to it, he respects Jon’s boundaries.

I dunno, actually! Maybe Bane? He doesn’t really give a shit if other people are watching him make out with Jon, but they prefer being private when it comes to these types of things.

Jon! Age has finally slowed this Old Kuudere enough to get caught by feelings.

I feel like they both know each other pretty well, but I’ll have to go with Jonathan on this because he tends to overthink more. There’s also the fact that Bane has the advantage of getting help from the rest of the Secret Six (who mostly have a genuine respect for Bane) to pick out a nice gift, and Jon just has… Jervis and Eddie. To be fair, Jerv could actually help Jon find a nice gift, but Edward would completely derail any public excursion the Dork Squad might have in trying to get Bane a gift. (tbh that’s actually… not a bad idea for a fic lmao)

💓: who initiates most physical contact?

Bane! I’ve said this before, but Jon isn’t too big on physical intimacy- it takes a lot for him to become vulnerable with someone else that way. Bane enjoys being close to the people he cares about.

Bane will lmao. He’ll take a picture of the sun rising or of some fresh dew on some roadside dandelions whenever he’s working out each morning and he’ll send some saccharine message like “such a beautiful morning… and yet it pales in comparison to how I feel about you, my cariño…” Jon gets so flustered over these types of messages that instead of responding, he makes coffee and a full southern breakfast to share with Bane whenever he gets back.

Neither! Bane might peruse through astrology compatibility out of curiosity once or twice, but that’s about it.

BANE. BANE. BANE. Jon can get pretty protective too, but Bane has the beef to literally throw Jon over his shoulder and get him away from danger.

💚: who tends to get sick more often? who is better at taking care of the other?

It depends! Jon is a lot more likely to get a bad cold or the stomach flu than his bf is, but if Bane is trying to cut himself off from taking venom (I HC him as being in his post-venom phase, but he might take it in emergencies) then Bane gets much, much sicker whenever he’s trying to fight off the side effects or withdrawal symptoms. Bane takes diligent care of Jon whenever he is sick, but Jon is much better at helping Bane recover because he has more experience in taking care of other people.

💜: who said "i love you" first? or, if neither has said it yet, who is more likely to say it first?

Hmmm… I’d have to go with Bane on this one! When it comes to love languages, Jon and Bane definitely lean more towards actions than through words, but I think Bane is much blunter about his feelings, and Jon is an Old Kuudere.

Neither! They’re both cynical in that kinda sense lol!

Kari’s Marvelous 2k Writing Challenge

Thank you so much, guys. I honestly didn’t expect this blog to grow the way it has when I started it. I love this fandom and I love reading for these characters as much as I love writing for them, so let’s celebrate with a challenge, shall we?

Since I reached the milestone before my 1 year anniversary I will as open up drabble requests using a prompts list - I’ll make a post about that as soon as I can.

Agent Venom

(Hey guys! As said before in a previous post, I am trying to get on a better schedule for writing. Also releasing more content! So enjoy the first of many chapters! Also, please feel obliged to request a shout out!)

Warnings: Venom getting triggered over the word 'parasite', VERY tiny sliver of smut if ya squint. Other than that, good old plain fluff.

"Y/n. Wake up."

She honestly didn't want to. But then Y/n thought, "Oh yeah. I went to sleep on the god damn ceiling." She grudgingly slithered down the wall of her room, wondering who while her up and why. It was absolutely conscious thinking, being a secret agent, as well as confusing, considering Venom normally woke Y/n early in the morning, just in time to get food and train.

"Ugggh. Who is it? It's too early, like about maybe 2:00 a.m." She groaned. In front of Y/n, an alien-like hiss escaped. "Y/n, I'm hungry. Let's raid the kitchen for chocolate." Venom whined. Y/n sighed. "Venom, I can't wake up in the middle of the night just to greet you chocolate. Other people are sleeping here too." She complained, but Y/n found herself grudgingly walking to the door.

It took her roughly 15 minutes to find the kitchen. Y/n walked into the kitchen and opened the fridge. "Okay, Vee. There's the chocolate. Eat up." Venom howled with glee.

Ever since Y/n figured out that the head-eating symbiote that had been bonded with her wonderful boyfriend Eddie was living in their shared apartment, her life just expand to accommodate the weirdness that was Venom. Y/n found out that apparently during some, ah, sexy times, Venom has shifted from Eddie to her.

Even in the short time Y/n spent time bonding with Venom, she and Eddie both agreed there was absolutely nothing more horrific than Venom eating 15 chocolate bars whole. At the same time. But Y/n had to admit, it was an impressive feat. She watched as Venom relentlessly demolished a Hershey's bar. "That chocolate was almost as delicious as you, morsel. Do you want anything to eat?" Venom purred.

Despite the blushing from Venom's sexual comment, Y/n took the chance to snatch a small bite

"Looks like I'm not the only one who couldn't sleep."

Y/n and Venom turned around to see Nick Fury standing by the coffee machine. "Let me guess. Your little friend here was hungry." Y/n see-sawed her hand. "More or less. Was actually gonna train after the parasite ate." The symbiote relaxing on her shoulder immediately perked up. "PARASITE?!?! How dare you! I am more than some pitiful parasite, Y/n! You and I are one! We are Venom! A parasite takes everything. I give you protection, power! Everything that couldn't be granted to you, I can give! Now apologize before I go find Eddie and bond with him!" Venom roared. Y/n snickered. "Geez, sorry drama queen. Only joking. As for Eddie, he's all the way in San Francisco. Also, you're insufferable, you know that?"

Nick was impressed. Venom was currently on SHIELD's watch list since the Life Foundation lab went down in flames, and a shocking amount of San Francisco's criminals were found with no heads. How Y/n's boyfriend ended up with it, no one knows. But the symbiote was rather adamant about keeping everyone arm's length from Y/n. Those who didn't heed the warning, woke up on the ceiling.

"Y/n, come on. Let's go train. I want to be there before any one else. Especially the new people." Venom whined. With the exception of Y/n and Eddie, Venom did not like other people. The Klyntar thought that people that weren't his host were rather annoying, and that during the morning, the symbiote was more irritable. "Yeah, yeah. Least me eat first." Y/n complained. She then inhaled the food like a vacuum, seeing as it was only a bite-sized cake.

"Well, good luck." Nick counted the amount of crumbs on the table, wondering how someone like Y/n got attracted to something so evil.

the venom movie was a lot of fun but it was very ooc a lot HOWEVER seeing some of the cut scenes and scripts you can see that it used to be actually fairly in character for the comics but a lot of scenes with eddie establishing himself as not actually the most nicest of guys (not that eddie isnt a nice guy deep down but he is a good amount fucked up with a big ol hero complex and a problem with ‘i can do no wrong” mentality sometimes) were cut and considering how the fandom for the movie treats him i can see why the cut those bits out bc i dont think movie goers would have liked him as much wich is a shame bc he is a good guy at the end of the day just fucked up

SCUD the disposable assassin is the most underrated comic EVER and i LOVE IT however i think it ended stupid and bad however it went on fucking hiatus for like a decade and then was rapped up really fast so any ending is a godsend

the worst time for comics was the 2000s and early 2010s

sometimes i am shocked by the art that gets the editors pass in comics. some of it is so bad and im not even talking about the disproportionate ladies

the lego marvel and dc movies are way better than the live action movies and im not even being sarcastic

i read the first deadpool comic i got so much that the art itself is so ingrained in my mind that people have shown my just the corners of panels and ive identified them correctly

i distinctly remember the first time the woman at the book store stopped asking me for parental permission to buy the comics i was getting (12yos) because i went there so often that she just remembered who i was and that the adult would say its fine

i refuse to talk about comics with people at cons because i am gatekept or flirted with every single time no matter what and there is no in between. and yea its because i have tits. youd think that eventually theyd learn but gross comic men never do and all the others have adopted the same policy as me so the closest i come to positive comic interaction at cons is standing in the same vicinity as another chick, looking at the same section, and the kinda smiling at each other

i think the avengers are boring. really really boring. the x-men are way better

i related to gwenpool too much when she first started and it scared/offended me so i stopped reading for a while until her character developed more and we stooped being so similar

i have spider-man bedding. i picked it out only a few months ago. its good it makes me feel cool in a very uncool way

watching spider-man as a kid made me wanna be a scientist. watching batman as a kid made me want to do martial arts. i ended up failing chemistry and falling on my face a lot instead.

i had a huge venom toy and a huge spiderman toy as a kid and while i did make them fight a lot i also made them hug just as much. i wanted them to be friends

on that note PETER IS MEAN TO THE SYMBIOTE NOW AND HE DONT EVEN HAVE A REASON NO MORE hes just such a dick about criminal reform eddie and the symbiote aint special with this- he says he believes people can be better but he really doesnt show it. he tends to think people are set in their ways and while this makes sense forthe most part considering how much hewas bullied as a kid/adult (that also contributes to his mild “i protect my own” mentality  tho at least he consciously fights that one) it stil pisses me off

I get that calling Eddie and the symbiote’s relationship “abusive” seems harsh, but, as @deluxetrashqueen so well put it in a post awhile back:

It will never be a “healthy” relationship, by human standards. But, it’s the relationship they both want and choose based on truth and trust and choice. And that’s all it needs to be, I think.

Eddie and the symbiote are obsessed with each other. They don’t know how to function without each other. I wholeheartedly believe they want to take care of each other, but I also think they don’t know how to. Yet.

That doesn’t take away from the fact that they love each other, that they want to be and do better for each other. It just makes them an angsty mess of a ship. And, personally, I knew that’s what I signed up for.

These two will never be a fairy tale romance. They’ll never have the same kind of relationship two human beings would. It’ll always be complicated, it’ll always be raw and emotional.

As for the tweets Cates made after the negative reactions from that interview? He honestly just reassured me and made me excited for what’s to come.

“The story I’m telling is a long one. And it’s heading to a place where these things get better. But it starts in a place where things are bad. Because that’s how stories work.” (x)

“My story on Venom is a long one. And it involves a lot of growth on both Eddie and the symbiote’s part. Hang in there.” (x)

I always said that the writers knew exactly what they were doing when they had the symbiote tell Eddie “I love you” despite him not hearing it, and then proceed to have Eddie doubt the symbiote’s feelings for him two issues later. 

Honestly, it’s the typical miscommunication/misunderstanding trope you find in so many fan fics. And I believe they’re gonna resolve it in the end. We’re just in that really painful angsty part of the story right now.

Basically? Please give the writers a chance and don’t jump to conclusions. I actually have faith in this guy, and he seems really chill and willing to talk to us readers through his twitter. He clearly wants to stick to this story for a long time, having more than 25 issues planned. Hang in there.

Apples & Cinnamon (3) - The Excuses | Carlton Drake x Reader

Warning: Carlton messing up again and reader forgiving him ‘cause she has the Eliza Schuyler level of kindness, some angst, mentions of anxiety (but there’s self care)

A/N: Trying to get back into writing this series again and hopefully it shows in the tags this time. I feel like the next chapter will be the last for the Venom prequels and I’m debating if I should go straight to post-Venom. I have a few ideas on bringing Carlton back for that one, drawing from some events in the Spiderman comics. Thank you guys for reading my fics and waiting patiently for the next one!

With the launch of the exploration space ship, Carlton tried to spend more time with you. He made an effort to learn new recipes to cook for you, he’d do the chores around the apartment, so you’d come home and relax to a clean living space, and he’d even drove you around town to help with errands and take you to work. To say you weren’t enjoying this would be a lie, but at the same time, it made you anxious.

One day, Anne invited you for lunch, wanting to catch up and discuss the wedding plans. The date is undecided, but it didn’t hurt to bounce ideas around. Anne and Eddie were a simple couple, so nothing extravagant. Anne joked about dressing casually for the wedding and that Eddie would gladly wear his biker jacket if he could.

Anne sipped her water and eyed you. “So, what about you?” she asked. You tilted your head, picking on the bread crusts of your sandwich with a fork. “What about me?” you countered. “I mean, you and Carlton have been together for a long time. No wedding bells on your end? Eddie mentioned that you’ve been arguing,” she said with concern. You shook his head. “What a typical reporter, warping the truth,” you said, “but, no. We weren’t really arguing… just that he’s been busy and all. He’s trying to make up for it, though.” As if on cue, your phone dinged, a message from Carlton popped up asking where you were. You reminded him that a friend had wanted to take you out for lunch. Within seconds, he asked which friend it was and if he knew them. You grimaced, telling him it was a girl from college that you haven’t seen in a while and wanted to catch up. It wasn’t a complete lie. You knew Eddie from college and you’ve met Anne through association. You didn’t want to be specific on who it was, not wanting to affect Anne’s work life, knowing the chances of her firm working with Life Foundation. “Something wrong?” Anne asked, her head tilting, letting her short blonde hair cascade over her shoulders. You shrugged it off. “It’s nothing. He just wants to know where I am.” Another message popped up asking where the small diner was. You gave him the name of the diner and told him that you were almost finished. He wanted to pick you up as soon as you were done. “You should talk to him if something’s bothering you,” Anne said, seeing your brows furrow as you texted your boyfriend. “It’s fine, Anne. Besides, I don’t want to bother him. He’s the CEO of Life Foundation. He’s got bigger things to worry about,” you said, almost trying to convince yourself. Anne reached over to grab your hand. “Well, if you want to talk, you know you can always call me, right?” “I know,” you said too quickly. Anne sighed. “And if even cares for you at all, sharing your thoughts and feelings shouldn’t bother him. If it does, Eddie and I will swoop down and save you.” You texted Carlton as you and Anne waited to pay for the meal. He immediately replied, saying he was on his way. After paying, you followed Anne out to the curb where she parked her black car. She offered to wait with you until Carlton arrived, but you dismissed her offer, insisting you’d be fine. Carlton always arrived on time. Until today, that is. You honestly didn’t know how long you’ve waited, but long enough for the chill of the incoming dawn to blow through the streets. You texted Carlton after the first ten, fifteen, half an hour, and even an hour of wait, only to be left as unread. Your heart began to race, an uneasy feeling vibrating through your body as your throat constricted and your eyes threatened to spill over. Maybe there was a last-minute emergency. Taking a few deep and slow breaths, you wrapped an arm around your stomach and waved a cab down. Luckily, one did stop for you, asking where you wanted to go as soon as you climbed in. You debated if you should go over to Life Foundation, but you were too drained, so you opted to going straight home. You tried to text Carlton, telling him that you already took a cab, but your vision blurred as soon as you started typing. You let out a frustrated huff, roughly wiping your damp cheeks, your eyes flickering over to the driver who had glanced at you for a second. At a stop light, he reached over to his glove compartment and produced a tissue box, handing it over to you. Letting out a meek “thank you”, you took it and pulled out two tissues to wipe your eyes and your running nose. He finally pulled up in front of your and Carlton’s shared apartment. You thanked him, giving him a generous tip before climbing out. Your crying episode had calmed down, being reduced to petty sniffling. You took a sharp intake of breath, pushing down your sadness and disappointment, trying not to get angry at the situation. Unlocking the front door, you were greeted by an empty apartment, as you expected. Maybe he was called in, you repeated to yourself.

You threw your bag onto the kitchen counter, toeing off your shoes and made a beeline to the bathroom where you ran a hot bath. You ignored the chaos in your mind as best as you could, running on autopilot. You tossed a bath bomb into the tub and laid out a fuzzy bathrobe and your favorite pajamas and underwear. Humming, you walked back to the kitchen, pulling out the small box of wine samplers that your coworker was giving out one day, selecting a white wine and a clean glass.

Then, you went back to the bedroom, digging for Carlton’s iPad and slipping it in an airtight ziploc bag and scrolling through netflix. When you found the TV show you wanted to binge watch, you peeled your clothes off as you made your way over to the bathroom, not minding the trail of clothes you left in your wake. You laid out the bamboo bathtub table that you made Carlton buy for you and set your items down before sinking into the warm eucalyptus and lavender scented water. Your phone buzzed from the bathroom counter, but you ignored it, focusing on the show as you sipped your white wine. Your stressful episode was long forgotten for the moment as you try to clear your mind of any intrusive thoughts while you enjoy yourself. Dora and Anne were right, you knew that, but giving him excuses was a bad habit that you’ve succumbed to. You were on the second season when you heard Carlton arriving, his keys jingling as you kicked his dress shoes off and place them on the metal shoe rack next to the door. You closed your eyes for a moment, breathing in the scent of the water to steel yourself as he walked through the bedroom looking for you. “(Y/n)?” he called out. You heard rustling of clothes in the bedroom before he opened the bathroom door wider. “(Y/n), I’m so sorry- “ You shushed him, not bothering to look up at him. He sighed, the sound of his bare feet padding over to you and landing on the furry rug next to the tub. You took another sip of your wine, swishing it around your mouth before swallowing. He grabbed the wine glass away from you, much to your dismay, and knelt next to you. “Work called me about some materials that they’ve scanned on the comet and they’re going to go ahead and retrieve them. I just got so excited that I went over to read over the reports and… isn’t that exciting?” Carlton said, leaning on the edge of the tub. “It sure is, Carlton,” you said flatly. You could see Carlton wincing when you said his full name. You paid no mind to it, lifting your chin up and continued, “But you couldn’t have just asked them to send the reports to you? If you’re going to insist on picking me up right away, I’d expect you to pick me up right away because you said you will. I was fine catching ride with my friend or taking a cab. I didn’t have to wait outside the diner and watch people pass by for almost two hours.”

He opened his mouth to defend himself, but you held a finger up. Now that you had alcohol buzzing through you and making you calm, you could confront him without holding back. You didn’t want to cry anymore and you didn’t want to get heated up and angry before you say things you don’t mean. “I know how much your work means to you. We’re both busy and we knew what we were getting into when we started this relationship. I don’t mind that you were called in, because I sometimes get called into work as well, but you should have let me know instead of letting me wait there for so long. When something happens at work, I always let you know.” You paused to take another sip of wine.

“Lately, you haven’t properly communicated with me. I don’t know what’s going at Life, so the least you could do is tell me whether you’re not able to make it in time to pick me up, or that you’re coming home late, or you’re staying at the lab overnight. It’s tiring having to go after you to hear you so nonchalant about this situation while I’m by myself worrying about everything and everyone. I’m just… I am really tired, Carlton.” “What are you saying, sweetie?” he asked shakily. He grabbed your hand and peppered kisses all around it as he tried to make you look at him. “I’m trying here. Everything’s going according to plan and I can’t stop now. I’m making a better future for the world, for us. I want you to be there, by my side, when it happens.” You tried to pull your hand away, but he refused to budge, holding it close to his chest. “I admit that I was in the wrong,” he said, “I should be telling you things more when all you do is support and understand me and that’s more than I could ask for from anyone. I promise, this will be the last time, okay? You wanted to go to Singapore, right? We could do that. The space crew isn’t going be back for a while and you have a lot of vacation days saved up. We can go as soon as you’re ready. I’ll plan out everything from the reservations, all those food places, everything.” You considered his apology and his offer, finally turning your head and  looked at his pleading eyes. You sighed, placing the iPad down on the table and leaned back. He silently waited as you drummed your fingers on the hard surface, then turned back to him. “You can’t keep doing this, Carlton,” you said firmly, “You can’t keep making promises then cover it up with good deeds and extravagant gifts every time you break them.” “Then what do you want me to do?” he snapped, making you pull your hand away. He dropped his head and exhaled. “I’m really trying, (y/n/n)! I thought you would have understood… you do, but… you just… I just…” You studied his face for a moment, his eyebrows furrowed his jaw clenching as his hand ran through his hair. Slowly, you lifted your hand to his cheek and made him look you in the eye. He tilted his head, leaning into your touch. “I just want you to be here. Like here, here. With me,” you said softly. He leaned forward, your foreheads touching. “Believe me, (Y/n/n), when I say that all I want is to share my life with you for as long as you’ll have me.”

The tension fell away as his words sunk in. He said it with so much certainty and you really wanted to believe him. The two of you hadn’t fought in a long time. You were glad that you were able to finally speak your mind and you hoped that the worst was over now that the both of you agreed on how to communicate. This was Carlton, the man that you bumped into at NYU and asked you out on the same day. The Carlton everyone sees seemed so put together, but he actually asks you for help to tie his tie. You hoped that you would help him separate your Carlton with Life’s Carlton, to leave work behind when he’s home with you.

“You’re making it really hard to stay mad at you,” you mumbled, bumping your nose with his.

“Good. And I will do anything to make it up to you.”

You hummed, stroking his cheek with your thumb.

You pushed the bamboo table away and stood up from the tub, using Carlton to balance as you climbed out. His eyes roamed your figure as you ringed your hair into the tub. You raised an eyebrow, pointing to the towel. He quickly fetched it and you stuck your arms out, allowing him to wrap it around you.

“So here’s what we’re going to do,” you said, tucking in the towel as his ears perked up, “You’re going to dry my hair while I finish up that rose wine and I’m going to make you watch any rom-com I want, got it?”

“Got it!”

You wrap your arms around his neck. “You’re lucky that I love you.”

“I know.”

A/N: Kind of realize that I’m making Carlton a darker version of Alexander Hamilton... the musical one. Let me know what you guys think. I also realize a lot of my reader inserts deal with mental health and I’ve done it unintentionally, but I hope I’ve portrayed it well. I’ve been dealing with GAD and depression myself, so some of it is from personal experience.
