In my head, to fit Jeaneren in canon events, there's always a canon divergence during the timeskip. It's a major rewrite because I don't see the relationship happening at all with Eren's downward spiral.

But watching all the seasons back to back for the first time since the show ended and I finally see the appeal of Eren/Reiner

It's toxic, unhealthy, and out of whack, but it fits perfectly with canon events if everything happened during the time skip. A downward spiral of a ship for the downward spiral of a main character, and the self-hate of the other.

Wondering to myself what Jean would hate more, the continued being called horse face by the gang or once they gang found out about his mommy appointed pet name, Jeanbo.

I strongly feel like Eren would call Jean Jeanbo moving forward, altogether abandoning usage of horse face just to get under his skin (since it's the only forseeable way to get under him).

Marco can call him Jeanbo, but only in private. Marco does it teasingly once and it gives Jean mixed feelings. He can't help but grin and fluster, but it also brings to his mind the image of Eren and that confuses things for him greatly.

I like the idea that Eren has a dumb crush on Jean, and is too stupid to realize that's what it is. Like just a silly crush that doesn't mean much beyond the unspoken magnetism and urge to piss him off for reasons unbeknownst to him. Their anger towards each other is just some unspoken pent up repressed feelings.

I think, ultimately, they would be low-key terrible together. Maybe they could get it to work for a while, but I think Jean is a devoted yearner. Eren requires more of a match, an equal (which is why he and Armin complete each other, so to speak).

Jean lowkey gives I will love my partner more than they will love me vibes. Not in a negative way, just in he is truly a devoted simp and where you would draw lines to stop, and he would of course respect that, however, he would knowingly put himself in harm's way or do things he wasn't fond of, try things he wouldn't imagine doing with anyone beside his person simply because the thrill of meeting their expectations brings him immense satisfaction.
