i have an addition to the story 4 the ending where like the rest of the chapters would be like Zach getting closer w/ the wk team and while he eventually wont be part of the wk team he'd stop using animals and help with their missions from time to time and then theres an episode where they help zach find a new hobby instead of using animals for his inventions

and like the ending to this one would be like they bring zach back to his plane and he's like "Thanks for the ride wild ratts..and chris" and chris looks so touched but martin just looks horrified and confused and says "What the actual fuck happened???" but chris just shrugs cause he doesnt know either something

Hi, first of all I want to thank you because thanks to you and your art I have fallen in love with the WK series again. I didn't know there was a fandom and I'm glad I'm not the only one who still loves this series.

Your two AUs are great, and the Guardianship AU has got me quite interested. And it has generated a question for me, one of my favorite episodes is the Platypus episode since it shows a really worried Martin for his brother and I have wondered what it would be like in this AU, would it be the same or would some things change?

And how would Chris' interaction with all the villains in general be? I can imagine him telling Donita jokes about how she's already too old or stuff like that hehehehehe.

As for your question:

Chris would definitely be a bit more of a bratt when it comes to the villains. he lacks a filter and only really interacts with them occasionally (when they've decided to capture him to try and mess with Martin) So he's basically making fun of them the whole time.

I feel like he could probably make Zach cry if he tried hard enough...

The villains would often dismiss Chris as just Martin's kid brother, which would really annoy him. They don't really see him as a threat like they do the rest of the Tortuga Crew.

Wild Kratts Headcanons

genuinely have no clue if this fandom is dead or not but I’ve fallen down a rabbit hole and it isn’t stopping. So anyway here we go! All of my hc’s are strictly platonic, Krattcest shippers back away rn 🤺. This is the 2D characters and not referring to the actual people! I know the characters are basically them but this is specifically for the cartoon. they’re all headcanons I either liked or had myself.

-Being as close as they are, Martin and Chris are very physically affectionate with one another (and with the Tortuga crew at times, but mostly the bros). They’re always giving each other hugs or leaning on the others shoulder, or Chris just straight up climbs onto Martin’s back/shoulders.

-With their friends, the boys are always giving them hugs, small shoulder touches, things like that. It’s their natural way of interacting with the people they care about.

-The Kratts have been found sleeping in trees various times (mainly Chris). At this point nobody questions it though they do get worried about him falling out and getting hurt.

-The Kratt Bros are also sometimes found sleeping in the same hammock, whether it’s in the Tortuga or hung up on a tree branch. They usually do this when the other has a nightmare or after partially tough missions (I.E:Flight of The Pollinators, Platypus Cafe, plus other episodes but these are the ones I heard about most and I haven’t gotten to watching too much of the show again yet). Touch is their love language and sometimes they need this to remind themselves the other is okay.

-Chris climbs basically everything. He loves climbing and if you took him to a rock wall climbing gym he’d have a field day. You can find him in the oddest places on the Tortuga.

-Aviva isn’t the most touchy person but will give hugs out of gratitude/happiness.

-The brothers share a single braincell. That is all.

-Jimmy has a very close relationship to his grandmother and was raised by her; which is why he knows all of her recipes.

-Aviva is like a mom friend. Not in the sense she’s motherly but in the sense she has to babysit two hyperactive brothers who are constantly running around/getting in trouble and breaking things.

-Martin can carry Chris no problem (on his back, shoulders or bridal style), but Chris cannot carry Martin on his back/shoulders for long. Though he can hold him bridal style (as we have seen.)

-The bros are huge nerds. If you ask them about animals they will talk for HOURS about them.

-Koki is downright fabulous and can rock anything. Don’t @ me.

-Martin has ADHD and Chris has autism. Martin fidgets, gets distracted easily, and can act impulsively (though reels Chris in when Chris is the one being impulsive). He tends to run off during creature adventures. He has combined presentation ADHD and Martin also has a tendency to forget to charge his creature pod.

-As for Chris, he has autism. He doesn’t recognize social cues and corrects people when he thinks they’re wrong about something, and doesn’t realize when they’re annoyed with him for it. He also can be pretty blunt. And he has to keep things organized, such as how he organized all of his creature disks and hates them being moved out of place.

-Chris, out of everyone, cusses the most. He doesn’t around the Wild Kratt Kids but he will when with the crew/his brother. He has definitely called Zach a motherf*cker and Aviva and Martin found it hilarious.

-The Tortuga Gang have frequent movie nights, but they will never watch a movie where an animal dies with the brothers. They WILL cry.

-After the Tazzy Incident, Chris still has some Tazzy traits. Mostly just sharper canines but also more sensitive senses. He can’t hear, smell and see are well as he could when in tazzy form but it’s definitely increased from normal. His eyes also do that thing cat eyes do when they’re in the dark and the light hits them. Has 100% given Martin heart attacks and absolutely has used it to mess with Zach.

Now that the psychic damage over Paisley's redemption has worn off, here are some hopes/episode ideas I have in regards to the future of her character arc on the show. Assuming that she isn't written off the series (which would be nothing short of a giant middle finger to her voice actress and the fans who waited 3 years for the character to return).

An episode that gives us closure for Rex. Whether or not he'll redeem himself alongside Paisley. I frankly do hope he does because like Paisley, he has had so few appearances in the show. Paisley getting redeemed after only 6 episodes of being a villain is one thing, but it'd be VERY hard to accept Rex becoming a main antagonist after serving as an underling [maybe they could make it work but that feels like a stretch] Plus they have the healthiest relationship among all of the villains on the show, so I don't like the idea that these two would wind up fighting each other in the future.

An episode akin to "Adapto the Coyote" where Paisley has her own subplot learning about the animals around her through misadventures. Maybe she's trying to build an eco-friendly environment but the animals keep getting in her way, so she tries to find an ethical loophole only to find out that the animals are the key.

On that note, I think Pave Nature Incorporated being kept in business but having their goals change would be an easy loophole. Construction, but in ways that leave animals and their habitats out of harm's way, or better yet, put them under protection. It would be a natural change for the character without doing a complete 180 of everything established with them [which can ruin a good redemption/development story]

Post-redemption Paisley meeting and facing off against the other villains. Again, this is something that the special kinda left on a thread that I think would be interesting to follow up on. Despite having minimal appearances in the show, Paisley and Rex have established themselves to be allies to Zach, Donita, and Gourmand. So this would be a game-changer to hear that she's with the Wild Kratts. Would the villains attempt to go after her? Would they try to use her to get to the Kratts? Zach's a specialized hacker, maybe he could intercept Paisley's tech to use it against her and make her look bad in front of the crew. Really interesting shit there!

And while we're still on that, a 1v1 interaction between Paisley and Donita. Paisley's been on the show for 8 years and a member of the villain team for 6 years and the 2 female villains on said team [as far as I recall] rarely exchange that much dialogue. It's already enough that we didn't have them team-up, but them being on opposing sides opens other opportunities. They could face off or be mirrors to each other, one could try and convince the other to join their side with no avail.

Her interacting with the other Wild Kratts Kids. As far as I'm aware, she's the only villain not to, which, whilst a testament to how badly unterutilized she is, could be interesting. Do the WK kids know about her if they've never reported her? Are they as easily willing to buy her overhaul as the rest of the crew is? Are the kids and Paisley willing to learn from each other voer their stance about nature? Interesting stuff!

I'm probably aiming too high when it comes to expectations but they backed themselves into a corner here with no way out, I'd really love to see how they handle this.

I've seen some stuff floating around about not being weird to the point of making Lucanis' VA, Zach Mendez, uncomfortable. It seems Astarion's VA doesn't even want to interact with the fan base because of how wild people got over their voice (I don't know details and I probably don't want to).

I fully agree and I'm sorry for my "How fast can Lucanis be mounted" comment on the video clip I shared.

We shouldn't seek to traumatize them. I intend to melt over the character, sure, but I'll try to think before I speak.

Please try to be mindful. Nobody likes to be sexually harassed. I know I absolutely don't.

This fandom needs to back off of Matt Donovan and Zach Roerig

Starting with the ridiculous: Zach Roerig and Julie Plec never dated. It's ridiculous that I have to say this. There is a blurry picture of him leaning in to Julie Plec at some point. I even tried to do the work for you all and could not find one shred of evidence of an actual kiss. Y'all are just wild for this rumor. If anything, my search revealed that Ian and Zach were in a relationship. I mean look at that affection.

Also, with just a tiny bit of research, we can find out that Zach was in a relationship when he started the show and, due to issues at home, he ends up fighting for full custody of his two year old daughter while on the show. The only romantic connection there is any reports on is with Candice King and that was relatively short lived. Otherwise Zach was just a single father, trying to raise and support his daughter.

Now people will try to say Zach is racist as well. I've heard he was racist because of dating Plec. See earlier paragraph. Or that he made racist comments to Kat. Again, there is zero evidence of this. People keep pointing to this interview saying that he either does the Nazi salute or a black power fist and it is such a reach it's ridiculous. He is looking at Kat because the question asked related to Bonnie and Matt and he reaches forward as a hand gesture and then raises his fist in a fairly generic way.

I can't tell if people get Matt Davis and Zach confused because he plays Matt or if people just love to hate on Zach because he plays Matt. Either way, it is disgusting to spread rumors about someone being racist when there is no evidence as far as I can tell. It's also terrible to distract from the actual racism that Kat had to deal with on the show.

From every interview I've seen he seems like such a sweet person. He even said working on the show was a "healing process" and yet the fandom treats him like this. Zach goes to the panels and none of his coworkers seem uncomfortable and avoid him. Not that them liking someone means that person is good, most of them still interact with Matt Davis and yet unfollowed Michael Malarkey.

Now onto Matt Donovan.

First of all, the fact that y'all pretend this man isn't attractive tells me all I need to know. Objectively, Zach Roerig is attractive. You can not like his character but you all just sound goofy.

The biggest complaint with Matt is that he is "useless," but this to me just shows you are watching the show for either the romance or attractive people and not for storytelling.

The role of the "human" in fantasy is so important. We, as an audience, are humans and we need to have a threshold character. A character that reminds of that even though we are rooting for the supernatural creatures, they are still not the good guys. It's why supernatural stories often revolve around humans. It gives the show the humanity that it would be in danger of losing if it just focused on the predatory species. Matt reminds us of the humanity that is at stake in the show.

Matt is particularly important in this show because he not only the sole human in a pack of supernatural creatures, but he is the only one without financial privilege in TVD. Matt not only comes from a family that is struggling financially, but his parents are gone and his sister is struggling with addiction. Matt is working it appears full time while in high school full time. All of his friends are going to parties and given cars and clothes, planning for college; while Matt is having to figure out how to afford his mom's mortgage/rent. Season 1 opens up focusing on how much Elena is struggling with the death of her parents but dismissed Matt's struggles as some lovesick teenager. When in reality Elena at least had a support system. Sure Jeremy was spiraling like Vicki, but Elena and Jeremy had Jenna. Matt was struggling with the purposeful abandonment of his parents and his sister's drug addiction with zero support system. He even loses his childhood friends when Elena and he break up. He only really has Tyler, who, let's be honest is not the best friend in Season 1.

He is also the first person in the show to lose someone due to the supernatural. His sister ends up attacked and in the hospital and he then has to figure out how to pay for that while taking care of Vicki who is clearly struggling even more than normal. When Vicki does end up dead, he knows there is more too it and the entire town, including his friends, gaslight him. Matt has every right to hate vampires. They murdered his sister in cold blood.

Matt is so devastated by Vicki's death that is haunts him throughout the show. He even risks his life just to talk to her ghost for a few moments.

People say Matt hates the supernatural, and he did, but he had reasons. And despite that, he was always there for his friends. Even when he was terrified, and in much more of a risk than his vampire friends, he was always there for them.

Yes, Matt is the one driving the truck when Elena dies and Stefan saves Matt over Elena, but none of that is Matt's fault. He was attempting to save his friend's life with Jeremey's help. How is that any different than Elena having Stefan compel Jeremy to leave town? Let's also not forget who helps Elena feed in her early days. But the fandom never wants to give him credit for that.

Matt is constantly used, berated, manipulated, and compelled by the supernatural around him. Mystic Falls needed someone like Matt to stand up for them since they were unaware of the supernatural world. Even the "good vampires" killed humans. Matt was trying to protect his town.

The last complaint ties it all in, that Matt only survived so long on the show because he was dating Julie Plec. Again, that's a lie. He never dated Julie, and it especially had nothing to do with the show writing. I would also like to point out that the character Matt is based on, Matt Honeycutt, in the book never dies. So why are we surprised he doesn't die in the show? Matt had a lot of close calls and even had a Gilbert ring for protection. No one ever asks why Steven McQeen (Jeremy) doesn't die or assumes it's because he was "sleeping his way to the top." These assumptions are immature and baseless.

All Matt wants to do is live a normal life, something he had to fight much harder than the rest of them for. He is the most consistent friend out of all of them. People love to say "how did Matt get so many girls?" Because he's nice. Because he respected them and fought for them, even if they didn't deserve it. They would all have been better off ending up with Matt.

Honestly, Matt and Cami's purpose are similar to me and both of the actors deserve such a huge apology from this fandom. Some of y'all need to learn to separate a show from reality.

Just reread DJGC (with the epilogue), and here are some of my thoughts that literally nobody asked for...

Cynthia sucks.

I wish we got to see more of Abby and Cammie bonding (especially over Matt).

I also wish we got to see more of Abby and Macey bonding (especially over how much Cynthia sucks).

I feel like Ally teased us with Abby/Joe pretty hard in DJGC, it's through Cam's POV so she probably misread the situation (but you know Tina had to be trying to gather intel and was spreading some WILD rumors about these two).

It's not that funny, but it kinda cracks me up thinking of Zach disguising himself as an old man. Crazy eyebrows, an even crazier white wig AND a fake mustache. Cam has to tease him about it in the future. Please.

Zach just jumps out of a moving train with a parachute. No biggie.

"Dad died, and ever since then, you've been a ghost." Has anyone recovered from that? Because I haven't. Nope.

Zach giving Cammie his jacket is just... their whole interaction in that scene is so cute.

"Joe Solomon does not cry." FALSE. He most certainly does and it most certainly makes me cry.

Abby really thought "Why not?" and kissed Joe just to try and snap Rachel out of her denial. "Well, *looks at Rachel* someone had to do it." Exactly what conversations did Abby and Rachel have about Joe that led to this moment???

"Don't be a ghost this time." Aww, my heart...

"She deserves better. She had better." "Matthew's gone." "And whose fault is that?" Screaming, crying, sobbing on the floor. This whole scene.... WRECKS me.

"It's good to hear your voice, Abigail." Joe who? I don't understand, what's Abby/Joe? I've never heard of that. (Headcanon: Tina for sure has the phones at Gallagher bugged and she is 100% experiencing whiplash right now).

"Sloppy of you to get shot, love." This line alone might make the DJGC epilogue my favourite epilogue lmao. It's maybe the most Tabby thing we get in the series and I'm absolute TRASH for it. Like, Townsend calls Abby "love" and that's canon.

I may or may not have written a fic extending their conversation on the phone but it's never seeing the light of day.

Finally getting around to watching a playthrough of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and let me tell you it is WILD to see Cloud with Zack's personality.

I have also been insanely amused because i keep remembering a tiktok i saw the other day talking about how much they upped th homoerotic subtext between Cloud and Sephiroth (SEPHIROTH IS OUT OF POCLET WITH HIS LINES BTW) and how all of th Nibelheim backstory was how Cloud remembered it and how he was a sixteen year old who idolized Sephiroth blah blah blah sk of course Cloud is going to have accidentally injected something extra in their interactions.

Except...they AREN'T th interactions between Sephiroth and Cloud. Cloud is remembering the interactions between Sephiroth and ZACH.

Here’s some fast facts bout the tbh guy ever!!

-Extremely anxious, chronically sleep deprived, jumpy, and soft-spoken (Most of the time hehe) 

-As mentioned before, SERIOUS codependency issues since he was little. 

-Works at Varmitech Industries as the overworked executive assistant, been in this position since the age of 17 

-Around Zach's age

-He actually planned on becoming a computer scientist before meeting Zach and changing his career to help him out. 

-Basically Zach's best friend since high school and a bit of a lover to him 

-This relationship is NOT one sided as Zach also does love Riley just as much, it's just that his hatred for the Wild Kratts overpowers his love for Riley. 

-Because of this, it's really difficult for Riley to get some alone time with Zach, or to talk with him and have him NOT mention the Kratt Crew 

-This has also led to some animosity towards the brothers, as in Riley's mind, they're the reason Zach is like this and why he can't have him completely, and from what he's heard, are Zach's bullies. 

-He doesn't HATE nature, he's just horribly afraid of it and thinks the world would be better off if society and nature never interacted and stay separated

-He thinks what the bros are fighting for is a worthless battle

I’m not going to use the word stan (as I’m old enough to hold the negative origin of the term) but as another person who enjoys teasing apart the lines between promotional activities and personal activities, it’s fairly well considered they’re together but no one talks about it.

I mean, the thing about earthmix is they don’t actively engage in wild levels of independent “fanservice” while still a lot of stuff they do post jointly are ads like the traveloka ind right now. (I’m personally of the opinion that celebrities know that everything they share is for an audience, and therefore whether they’re in a real couple or a fake couple anything not shared to close friends only or on their locked private Instagram is fanservice aka a service for the fans. But that leads me to want to talk about American actors and fanservice but that’s a separate post.)

Specifically post divorce era they’ve gotten even quieter on social media than they were before (and wildly more quiet since the passing of marriage equality which I find particularly curious) but there are little things like the many late night videos of Earth’s cast with Mix in Earth’s pajamas. They also, like FirstKhaotung, have a shared closet where clothing and jewelry seem to flow between them seamlessly. Though unlike FKT I’ve yet to see them pack one suitcase for a trip. They also tell on themselves about how much they’re together. A few months ago, Earth pulled a whole “it’s been a long time since we’ve been together like this” at some event and Mix immediately shot back they see each other every day. And Earth was like “for work, it’s been a long time since we’ve been together like this for work, with the fans.”

When Mix wasn’t posting from Earth’s house earlier in the year Earth made it clear that he was spending significant time at Mix’s house in an interview (while mix was finishing his degree) saying if Mix couldn’t come to him then he goes to Mix. This week at their book fair fansign when Earth was asked which of his cats Mix most resembled, Earth wrote down one of Mix’s cats first before that was pointed out he was asked about his cats and then crossed it out and wrote one of his own. They co-plan vacations and Earth was supposed to go on Mix’s solo graduation vacation but couldn’t make it. They had originally wanted to do Europe (Scotland which is Earth’s bias) for that trip but when Earth couldn’t make it Mix switched to Japan and Korea with friends. Mix also when taking about that trip discussed how hard it was to do that trip alone as usually all international travel is coordinated by the company or by P’Earth, and how because he’d done japan with Earth it felt safer to do alone but he got lost. In relation to that, their individual friends comment and react to each of their respective posts. Mix’s P’ who is living in Korea replied to earth he needs to come with Mix next time. Earth’s friends posted on Mix’s graduation posts. Many shots of them together are captured and posted by others (like the aforementioned p’aof who posted a picture of them curled together asleep on his couch for New Years Eve 2023-24) as are references to how often they’re together. With Neo’s Mint joining the company, NeoMint went on a special EarthMix Space and Mint was like “well, I’ve already met EarthMix before. I’ll go ask Mix and Have you forgotten I’m here are both pre-divorce era Neo as EM’s Steve) and it’s interesting that on two different vlogs, NeoMint have referenced essentially double dates with FKT and EM respectively. Joong outright refers to them as Mom and Dad.

The stuff they do post is also interesting. They were retweeting the same sets of house images a couple of months ago with in seconds of each other. They also habitually post birthday messages for friends in rapid succession, once this year accidentally wishing Rin a very early birthday. Their posts have a habit of sharing the same songs. Earth and Mix both posted for Mix’s birthday with the same song, and then Mix deleted the song from his Instagram post for his birthday but left a “great song choice, dad�� comment on Earth’s. Mix’s birthday this year lead also to a 7 day spree of Earth posting various quotes about daisies and love, with regular good nights on his main IG and his broadcast. Daisies have been a symbol of his for Mix for years (at least since ATOTS) and he was making his own fan edits of himself with daisies and a picture Mix took of him surrounded with hearts. Most of Earth’s thirst trap ig posts are all taken on days he’s with Mix (including the last one in Europe) They’ve also been very quiet about what Earth’s actual gifts for Mix for birthday and graduation were this year aside from the immediate shopping spree. There was a jewelry box for graduation that Earth said had 10k baht, but Thai fans were quick to point out the box was too small for all that. His birthday message to Mix ended with the non-sequitur “Let’s discuss it again after your birthday, alright?” and Mix almost tipped out of his chair. And then when Earth walked out on stage with the largest bouquet of roses, Mix turned bright red, looked ready to die, and just stared at Earth like “Really?!” And Earth immediately burst into awkward laughter and covered his mouth, until the roses were revealed to be from Mix’s sister that Earth delivered.

Which is also an interesting point of how close Earth remains with Mix’s family. At the graduation event last week, Earth held hands and walked with both of Mix’s parents at different times. Like, if they were for real still broken up, considering how emotional Mix was during divorce era, I wouldn’t expect them to be that close now.

And then I think there’s the little cues post divorce era, which is how emotional they both still are when they talk about it. The way they both get shy when talking about their trip where they finally made up during divorce era. (And it still comes up as one of their favorite places to go two years later) There have been multiple trips to temples, but the favorites are the New Year’s Day 2024 one with Mix’s family and FKT, where Mix sits in relation to Earth as a spouse would, and a trip to the Temple of Red Thread in Hong Kong during their fan meet this year which is known for people looking for love or to solidify relationships.

They’ve also been very loudly in support of marriage equality for years, and did (together) respond in a live after the vote went through “we can get married now” before looking at each other and nodding with a “yes it’s very exciting” it’s very debatable if they were reading a comment in the live, and what we they were using…but…

It’s just if we’re going to make comparisons Mosbank and Daouroad (and BillyBabe for me personally) are close to a Ryan Reynolds/Blake Lively type of professional couple, whereas Earthmix is on a Tom Holland/Zendaya vibe for how public they want their private relationship vs their professional relationship.

But you know, judge for yourself. (I recommend checking out some of MewTul’s content and comparing it to EarthMix and judging from there. They have similar vibes) Also, be polite and don’t go yelling this stuff on Twitter or IG and in comments on lives. Again, I’m old, and I like to pretend that celebrities don’t walk among us here in the gremlin site and if they do people aren’t out here tagging them in the comments.

Hii! I hope you don’t mind me asking, but what do you mean EarthMix are probably dating? I try to keep up with all the basics of the QL rumor mill, but most of it still passes right by me, so I spend a lot of time in a confused state, honestly. I thought EarthMix were roughly on the same level as a lot of other GMMTV pairs, which is to say: fanservice-y, but probably not a thing. So would you maybe mind explaining that one a little more? 👀🙏

I woke up to three separate asks about this and it was a very sobering realization that while I thought we were all just pretending not to know EarthMix are dating, apparently that was just me??? I don’t actually follow them all that closely though, so someone else feel free to jump in with the actual evidence because I know y’all have it.

Here’s the thing about EarthMix: they were 100% dating prior to their divorce era. There’s plenty of evidence that they were living together (my favorite is here) and the way they each reacted to their “break-up” was not…platonic. Mix was posting moody poems about lost loves on his Instagram for god’s sake.

I waffle about whether they’re back together now but to me, it comes down to proximity. They try to be coy about it, but Mix posts way too many videos of Earth’s cats after midnight to not be living with him. And when actors live together, I’m inclined to believe they’re dating because no one’s going to do that for fanservice.

We know that Khaotung gifted Earth and Mix a copy of Oscar Wilde’s De Profundis—a letter he wrote to his lover from prison while he was jailed for homosexual acts—and we also know that P’Aof, a queer director, favors them. P’Jojo has talked openly on his Twitter about how, if given the choice, he will always cast queer actors because he knows how hard it is to be queer in the BL industry. I would imagine that most queer directors feel the same.

We’ve been talking a lot on my blog about how GMMTV seems to discourage any verbal acknowledgement of queerness, so whereas the other two couples I mentioned—MosBank and DaouOffroad—have been as explicit as they can about the nature of their relationship, I don’t have any evidence of that nature about EarthMix. But like I said, I don’t follow them all that closely. EarthMix stans have my full permission to hijack this post and educate me because this is not my area of expertise and the thin line between “fanservice” and “actually dating” is one of my favorite topics of discussion.

Okay, Can We Take A Moment to Examine This Scene..

Y’all know the scene in Tazzy Chris where the children accidentally hit a baseball into Zach’s house, and they come with their dog to retrieve it? Yeah you do, this episode is legendary in the Wild Kratts Fandom…lol.

But something happened that I’ve hinted at before, but really just realized. Zach was yelling at the kids and dog for disturbing him, and they were visibly scared.

Zach demands they go away in a hateful tone with a defensive and aggressive stance, but when he realizes he has scared them he adjusts his voice, word choice, and attitude.

His voice takes on a defeated tone, the words he speaks change from ones of aggression to ones of mild annoyance. He initially yells “go away” then reverts to “stop bugging me,” and his body language also shows not aggression but defeat.

It is like he’s realized that his treatment of the kids and the dog was inappropriate. He knew he scared them, and he felt bad for it. And, since the whole point of this episode was centered around him making security bots to keep the kids away from his house, it made me realize, he did not want to be the one responsible for that task. He did not want to have to confront them and experience another scene like that.

I know this scene might seem mundane, but it leaves me with a lot of unanswered questions, it makes me wonder if Zach, momentarily, realized he was bullying the children? For example, was he thinking about his past experiences with the Kratt Brothers, and did this help him to see he was doing the same thing to the kids?

It is scenes like this that help me to be on the “Zach Can Change For The Better” team.

THE HHMR ISSUED A STORM WARNING: A NORTHER IS BLOWING IN AS SHANE SMITH AND THE SAINTS ROLL OUT THEIR LATEST RELEASE

Areas affected include: The Heart, The Soul, & Your Tappin’ Toes. Prepare accordingly.

Strong. Fast moving. Cold. Breathtaking. Those are adjectives to describe a Norther or Blue Norther, a storm bringing in fast cold winds from the north into Texas and surrounding states. Those words also perfectly describe Shane Smith & the Saints newest album, Norther. This album hits you hard and fast! Shane, Bennett, Dustin, Chase and Zach put together an eclectic record that, in my humble opinion, is their best work yet, even topping my favorite, 2013’s Coast.

Before I go any further, I will give a disclaimer that this review is biased—for good reason. I have no affiliation with the band; I’ve only met Shane twice, I’ve met the other members each once, and I follow Bennett on instagram (he’s also originally from my adoptive city of Louisville, KY). BUT, they are my *favorite* band! I may have Timmy Ty’s lyrics tattooed on my arm, but there hasn’t ever been a band that puts me in a trance quite like Shane Smith & the Saints. I’ve seen them at: Tumbleweed (LaCygne, KS), the Basement East (Nashville, TN), Headliners (Louisville, KY), Bulls, Bands, and Barrels (Lexington, KY), and most recently for their headline debut at the Mother Church, the Ryman Auditorium (Nashville, TN). So yes, I am a fan—to say the least. I *may* even fanboy out when they are within a 4 hour drive. That may ruin the credibility of my review in some people’s eyes; however, in others it makes this review even more true and authentic as I have been a fan for 10 years for no reason except for the facts that they make damn fine music, and that they are the some of the nicest artists I have ever met. And to “kind of” quote Uncle Dallas Moore, “there ain’t no one [reading] my shit anyway.” 🤠

Norther opens with “Book of Joe,” a hard hitting ballad with a heavy fiddle presence from Bennett and drums that hit you so hard that your heartbeat matches that of the drum beat. “Book of Joe” repeatedly tells us that “It’s a rich man’s war, it’s a poor man’s fight”—no matter which side of the dollar you are on, this life is always a battle. Next up, we get “Fire in the Sky.” Shane starts out by “deep talking” the lyrics, reminiscent of some of Johnny Cash’s lasts works. But then it goes into a toe tappin’, head banging song that isn’t country, Americana, or red dirt, but in my limited Eastern Kentucky vernacular can only be described as Rock.

We have to go all the way to track number 7 (out of 13) for what may be my favorite song on the album, “Wheels.” One set of lyrics in particular makes this song my favorite…“You can’t blame the memories because they brought you a long long way.” As imperfect humans living in a broken world, we have all had experiences that that have shaped us. Some are great and some we could do without. Personally, looking back at those memories, the good and the bad, they all taught me a lesson or changed my direction; something I am thankful for from the Man up above. And “Just like wheels caught in their motion,” we keep trudging forward throughout this crazy life. Jumping down to the 10th song on the album, “1,000 Wild Horses” gives something to the lover of “real country.” While it may be a little faster and have some great instrumentals, the focus is obviously Shane’s deep voice, the lyrics, and the melody.

Y’all, most albums have one or two of those “skip over songs.” That isn’t the case with Norther. The album has 13 imposing songs, 6 of which were singles starting with “Hummingbird” back in 2022. I’ve already told you once, I am biased because Shane Smith & the Saints are my favorite band for no other reasons except they make great music that casts a spell on me every time I hear it; and that in my few interactions, they are all humble, friendly and down to earth fellas who work as hard as hell to make the music they want to make. So, I know it is only March, but this album has the potential to have my vote for best release of 2024!

Do yourself and the band a favor and go listen to these independent artists right now. Stream them on your preferred platform, check out their merch, and lastly go to the show! I’ve been to a ton of shows over the years, but not one show impacted me the way Shane Smith & the Saints with Justin Wells did at the Basement East. P.S. and that was a show they played with borrowed instruments from Turnpike Troubadours (I think) after their van burned!
