“I wanted a thousand different things as we stood there, but most of all, I wanted the girl who had been beside me in Boston to turn and realize that I was beside her now. ... “This feels like a safe house.” She finally turned to look at me. “Doesn't it feel safe, Cam?” “Yeah, Macey,” I said softly. “It does.”

Abby: That shirt looks great Joe.
Joe: Thanks.
Abby: But I bet it would look even better on Rachel’s floor.
Rachel: Are you hitting on Joe… for me?

In OSOT, when cam comes back, zach says it's different, and he seem a bit distance quite a while, with him & bex always together. Do you think he's also mad at cam that's why? Or something else?
Oh my poor Zachy boy…
Zach’s mad. He’s furious with Cam. He’s pissed at her.
But not for the reasons we think.
Zach is the one who gave Cammie the idea of running away. He said so in OGSY. He told Cam that they should run. That they would keep each other safe. And Cam told him no. Cammie told him that that was not an option.
And what does she do? She leaves without him and she runs.
Zach doesn’t know where she is. She didn’t leave a note for anyone, she didn’t say goodbye, she’s just gone.
Zach has nobody. He can’t go home. He can’t go to his mom. He can’t go back to school. He doesn’t know if Cammie is even alive until they find her in Switzerland. And during that time he has Bex. And Bex is the only constant in his life that summer. She is the only one keeping his feet on the ground and keeping him from doing something stupid. Because if he can’t find Cammie, what does he have left? Joe’s in a coma for goodness sake.
And then to make matters worse, Cam comes back and she’s different. She can’t remember anything from that summer. He doesn’t even want to think about what she could’ve endured. He doesn’t want to process that. Between the sessions with Dr. Steve, the weapons incident, the memory loss, the fact that the Circle is still out there…
He tried to find Cam and he failed.
Things are different between them and while Cam is trying to process that and her missing summer, Zach is trying to process the fact that anything could have happened to Cammie and there was nothing he could do to stop that.

Okay, not really an ask (this is about to be SO long, I'm so sorry)... but I thought I'd say that, as I suspected, Full Circle has made my GG reread even harder. In the best way possible. There are just so many moments that have even more depth to them after reading this fic.
In DJGC it was seeing the Circle start to come after Cammie after seeing Matt start to go after the Circle, and how he never wanted it to get to that point (or even imagined it would). Also I feel like Macey's character development was somehow touched by how you've written the Cameron sister's background, especially with regards to Abby, her and Macey's connection has another layer to it now. And after rereading Full Circle and seeing Matt's unwavering loyalty to Joe and the lengths that he's gone to protect him, seeing the intelligence world turn on Joe in OGSY was just heartbreaking to say the least because it's everything Matt was trying to spare him from. And THE JOURNAL!! I'm not even gonna touch on that. And in OSOT...... yeah, I'm actually still recovering from that. Haven't reread UWS yet, but I'm assuming that will also wreck me.
I guess what I'm trying to say is thank you for making this series an even more interesting read. The sad moments are even sadder but it's fun in every way and it's made me love these books even more. I really didn't think that was possible. Anyways, I just enjoy reading Full Circle so much and appreciate all the work you've put into it!!
P.S. I also noticed that your blog is down and with it the "Will Full Circle update tonight?" button. So I was wondering if I could ask when the next update will be? Again, love this fic!
This is SUCH a compliment and the highest praise a fic writer can get—thank you, thank you, thank you. That is always the goal with what I write. I view fic as such a powerful too for adding depth to stories and taking more time to explore the human experience than one might find in a traditionally published book. It is seriously such a privilege to do exactly that for the GG series.
You've touched on so many points from the original series that I think about when writing Full Circle, and it's so fulfilling to know that they hit like I hope they do. Macey and Abby definitely have a deeper bond when you give Abby an heiress background (and, btw, so do Rachel and Macey—because it's Rachel who lets her in). Matt and Joe are the driving force being the whole story and it does hurt to see what's left of them in the original series. And the journal is the thing that made me want to write this story all those years ago.
Ultimately, I write Full Circle because I can't help myself. This story was going to come out of me one day, one way or another. But I am so so so happy that it happened now, when I could share it with others who are also amped about adding depth to this beloved series. Thank you, seriously, thank you for sharing this one with me.

This ^^^
I cannot articulate how perfect this analysis is. For Rachel, but also for Abby. Specifically the whole "nah, I'm the aunt who's had my fair share of leather jacket wearing smirking green eyed cuties at her age and I smell trouble and I'm going to say something about it" part. Like yes, 100%. The interaction on the train in DJGC always made me think that, as well as Abby's character in general. And not to bring up another kind of GG—but if anyone's familiar with Gilmore Girls it feels similar to Lorelai's initial feelings towards Jess because he reminds her of the kind of guy who would've broken her heart at that age. (I get such strong Lorelai Gilmore vibes from Abigail Cameron, or maybe it's the other way around but that could be an entire post in itself haha.)
However, I also think she warned Cammie to stay away from Zach because of the fact that Catherine is his mother, and because of that and Blackthorne he was connected to The Circle. Also, not to go to far down the Abby and Townsend rabbit hole, but we know that they knew each other for at least two years prior to the whole train scene in DJGC and we know that Townsend was working non-stop towards taking down The Circle and killing/stopping Catherine. So I kinda headcanon that maybe in the years Abby was gone she was working with him to help track The Circle, maybe as a way of dealing with Matt's death, looking for the same answers he was (again my thoughts on that could be it's own post). Which I think could explain her initial reaction to Zach being so close to Cammie, maybe she's seen first hand the consequences of being close to The Circle, we know she saw that in Matt's case, and she'll never let herself forget that.
Which I also think explains what Abby says right before she tells Cammie to stay away from Zach, after Cammie breaks down and calls out Abby for leaving as asks her why she left and where she was and we get this:
"Why weren't you there when we needed you?" "Haven't you learned yet, Cam?" Abby's voice was softer now, as if she were being dragged back into a dream. "There are some things you don't want to know."
If it wasn't already clear that this scene broke my heart and I will never get over it, then I hope it is now. But going back to Abby's feelings towards Zach, we know they change over the series, even by the end of DJGC, Abby hands Cammie Zach's jacket with the note (which she totally knew was in there, come on, she's a super-spy and an aunt) so she's starting to come around. And I think her feelings change for the same reason Rachel's do: Zach's not The Circle, he's not his mother, and most importantly he is so in love with Cammie and he wants to keep her safe. And idk, maybe Zach reminds Abby of someone she loves.... 👀

So, first of all, ummm thank you?? I teared up when I first read this, and definitely did while responding too. Also, thanks for your patience in literally a whole year for this? AND, I’m sorry, I didn’t quite write a fic for it, just some more general musings on the subject? I’m gonna dive quite a bit more into Rachel/Zach and all of the adults with Zach in my little baby Zach series, so I hope that answers more of this, when the time comes but for now...
So, I think I share the same sentiments as many that by the end of UWS, Rachel has grown to love Zach quite a bit. He’s one of her ducklings, one of the many people she cares deeply and strongly for.
However, I think she absolutely had similar thoughts as Abby for quite awhile - she just approached them in a sort of way only Mom Rachel Morgan could. And maybe she didn’t trust Zach because of his mom, or his school, or a long list of reasons, but I honestly think it comes down to one very simple thing:
He was a teenage boy.
And like, I don’t think Rachel was gonna be head over heels about her daughter seeing Zach, or any boy for that matter - BUT she’s Rachel and knows that it’s pointless to tell her daughter (or any of those girls) no about something like seeing a boy. I mean, basically the first rule of teenage girlhood is to absolutely date the bad boy your parents tell you you’re forbidden to see. And maybe her and Abby discussed this - maybe they discussed it all. The mom, the school, the badboy of it all. Maybe Abby saw Rachel taking her little more lax approach (see why, below) and Abby said "nah, I'm the aunt who's had my fair share of leather jacket wearing smirking green eyed cuties at her age and I smell trouble and I'm going to say something about it."
Also, it’s not like Rachel has paperwork to do, or a whole giant school to run, or you know, this guy from her past who’s comparable to Indiana Jones all up in her business (who has his own secrets she wants to know BTW), but no, that’s not enough - she just had to spend an entire semester pretending like her daughter wasn’t sneaking out to see a boy, falling in love, and getting heartbroken.
Which leads me to - Rachel just watched her daughter fall in love for the first time and then get her heart hurt. Why? Because she wanted to do this job more, than have a normal life with a boy. So, who is she to stand in the way of a boy Cammie could be with, if that’s what she wanted? A boy who knows her school and this life and dances a pretty mean waltz and hold on, did he just make her laugh actually?
I think Zach being inside those walls, under her nose, with The Joe Solomon stamp of approval (I mean, who all have truly, really gotten this stamp? Matthew Morgan and....? Yeah. that's what I thought.) was all it really took to be honest. Did she jump for joy and open her arms immediately? No. She's Rachel. I think she had to do what Rachel does - learn more, observe, and most importantly, trust her gut.
I think that when she looks at Zach, she gets a little sliver of open doorway into a part of Joe she doesn’t get to see often. I think she’s reminded that you are not your family if you don’t want to be, that your past doesn’t dictate your future, that first impressions can be misleading. I think Zach surprises Rachel, just like Joe did, and continues to surprise her, and surprising Rachel Morgan is impressive, and no easy feat.
But, the most important thing that I think of in terms of Rachel approving of Zach?
She watched that kid fall head over heels in love with her daughter - protect her, defend her, risk everything to save her and be with her, breakdown because of her - but still get up and fight for her...
Rachel loves Zach because Zach loves Cammie, and it's as simple as that at the end of the day 💙

Just reread DJGC (with the epilogue), and here are some of my thoughts that literally nobody asked for...
Cynthia sucks.
I wish we got to see more of Abby and Cammie bonding (especially over Matt).
I also wish we got to see more of Abby and Macey bonding (especially over how much Cynthia sucks).
I feel like Ally teased us with Abby/Joe pretty hard in DJGC, it's through Cam's POV so she probably misread the situation (but you know Tina had to be trying to gather intel and was spreading some WILD rumors about these two).
It's not that funny, but it kinda cracks me up thinking of Zach disguising himself as an old man. Crazy eyebrows, an even crazier white wig AND a fake mustache. Cam has to tease him about it in the future. Please.
Zach just jumps out of a moving train with a parachute. No biggie.
"Dad died, and ever since then, you've been a ghost." Has anyone recovered from that? Because I haven't. Nope.
Zach giving Cammie his jacket is just... their whole interaction in that scene is so cute.
"Joe Solomon does not cry." FALSE. He most certainly does and it most certainly makes me cry.
Abby really thought "Why not?" and kissed Joe just to try and snap Rachel out of her denial. "Well, *looks at Rachel* someone had to do it." Exactly what conversations did Abby and Rachel have about Joe that led to this moment???
"Don't be a ghost this time." Aww, my heart...
"She deserves better. She had better." "Matthew's gone." "And whose fault is that?" Screaming, crying, sobbing on the floor. This whole scene.... WRECKS me.
"It's good to hear your voice, Abigail." Joe who? I don't understand, what's Abby/Joe? I've never heard of that. (Headcanon: Tina for sure has the phones at Gallagher bugged and she is 100% experiencing whiplash right now).
"Sloppy of you to get shot, love." This line alone might make the DJGC epilogue my favourite epilogue lmao. It's maybe the most Tabby thing we get in the series and I'm absolute TRASH for it. Like, Townsend calls Abby "love" and that's canon.
I may or may not have written a fic extending their conversation on the phone but it's never seeing the light of day.

Ruby Slippers - A Zach x Cammie Playlist
Happy Not Knowing - Carly Rae Jepsen // It’s just like my broken heart is my alibi // “‘Tina,’ I said slowly as I leaned over the table and practically whispered the words, ‘I officially relinquish my claim to Zach.’” (CMH ch. 13)
Temperamental Love - Bridget Mendler & Devontée // All the lows shake my bones every time you leave / But I can’t escape the thought of you, boy // “I just looked at Zach, trying to shake the feeling that I hadn’t really seen him in months. ‘Why do I feel like I can’t trust you anymore?’” (DJGC ch. 23)
Ins and Outs - Sofia Carson // No, I won’t bring the gavel down on you // “‘There are things I can’t tell you, Gallagher Girl.’ ‘Can’t?’ I asked. ‘Or won’t?’” (DJGC ch. 26)
The Knife - Maggie Rogers // Oh, the knife of insight brought me to my knees / Broke me down and taught me how to see // “‘She’s your mother,’ I stated plainly. It wasn’t a question-- it was a data point, and Zach was slowly, somehow, making sense.” (OGSY ch. 40)
Run Away - Sky-Pony // Why can’t we just leave them here? / Got nothing to lose and less to fear // “‘You’re right-- no one’s safe with us around. Listen to me, Cammie, we could do this. We’ve been training our whole lives to do this.’” (OGSY ch. 45)
The Story of Us - Taylor Swift // I was losing my mind when I saw you here / But you held your pride like you should’ve held me // “It was all I could do not to turn and watch him walk away, to pretend like I didn’t care-- that whatever rift there was between us didn’t hurt.” (OSOT ch. 9)
Shadows - Sabrina Carpenter // I don’t mind your shadows / ‘Cause they look like a lot like mine // “I heard my voice trail off, my thoughts centering on the single thing I really had to know. ‘Are you afraid of me, Zach?’ ‘No.’” (OSOT ch. 17)
The Last of the Real Ones - Fall Out Boy // I am a collapsing star with tunnel vision / But only for you // “‘I’m a good person to know, Zachary. You should have figured that out by now.’ ‘Oh... I have.’” (UWS ch. 21)
Surrender - MALINDA // But that was then, and this is now / And we made it through the woods somehow / Fighting to keep what we won / And just surrender // “Then Zach took my hand and together we ran into the passageway.” (UWS ch. 38)

Why did townsend just let Joe go?
Hi friend!
I'm assuming you're talking about the London bridge scene in OGSY, right?
Either way I personally think that Townsend just had a flight or freeze moment. I think he hesitated. I think he's just so sure that Joe is the bad guy but I think he hesitated because of the time and place and the amount of people that were present. I think he just always hesitates when it comes to Joe Solomon.

I just finished re-reading the Listen Series for the gazillion times, and ahh, I can’t stop fangirling over it. I’m just curious to know whether you chose the name Blake Hughes on purpose or random. Agent Hughes is a real agent in DJGC (when Macey McHenry returns to the mansion and triggers a Code Red).
Hi!  Yeah!  Thanks!  You’re very observant!  The Agent Hughes in DJGC is, in fact, related to the Hughes siblings from the Listen Series.  If I recall correctly, I believe Agent Hughes is also in the mountains at Blackthorne, right before they get blown up (although I might have made that up myself).  Thank you, thank you, thank you.

I am pretty positive Liz has a younger sister.
It also makes sense that Cammie and Macey are only children.
Because come on, Matt and Rachel were both still active field agents when Cammie came along. Right?
Makes sense that Macey doesn’t have any siblings. Her parents just seem like the type to not have a lot of children. Plus being in politics... Senator McHenry has probably been in politics for years and seeing as that’s y’know the main cause for tension in their family... and how Macey has to be the poster child... she’s an only child.
And Bex? Cammie, Liz, and Macey are her sisters. Also same deal with Cammie’s parents. Bex’s parents were (and still are) active field agents. They wouldn’t have time to have kids, plural. I feel like it was a very clear case of “one and done”.
Now here’s a list of people that I do think have a sibling(s):
•Eva Alvarez
•Courtney Bauer
•Tina Walters
•Edward Townsend (but also maybe not)
•Catherine Goode (but nobody knows, maybe not even her)
But I don’t know, that’s just how I see it and is only a guess!
I feel like it's statistically improbable that Cammie, Bex, Liz, Macey, and Zach are all only children, but that really does seem to be the case.

♫ Listen: DJ George Costanza - “Not a Phase Third Wave Ska Mix”
DJ George Costanza has dropped some of the most hard-hitting, conceptual mixes of this decade (maybe even the century?). First, there was the pop punk mix; then came the country rap mix; and now, Costanza completes the trilogy with his “Not a Phase” third wave ska mix. That’s right, Reel Big Fish and Mighty Mighty Bosstones are just a pair of the featured bands on this twenty minute “mini-mix,” and it’s all solid gold. I’m not gonna lie, I sent this to four friends, and only one responded, saying he’d listened to about ten minutes of it and could figure out the vibe. To be fair, late 90s third wave ska, paired with generous helpings of airhorn and the “DJ George Costanza,” may not be for everyone. But I was never particularly fond of any of these genres until DJGC dropped these mixes, and once I dipped my feet, I jumped into the deep end, and have been there ever since. Costanza is one of the masters of the game, and you don’t need analog hardware to put together a legit dj set. You can have all the gear you want, but if your heart’s not in it, like it is here, you should be listening to “Not a Phase” and taking notes. http://j.mp/2AVgCna
