anyway, so I don't clog up your dash with a bunch of random posts, here's a quick rundown of how things have been since we last properly spoke (I've been here on and off for the last two years or so, I think)
I reached affiliate on twitch
I got a job. it's 16 hours a week but I work anywhere between 20 and 30 with overtime. it's retail but it's money in my pocket, which is nice.
I got stuck in a rut with my writing. the less I did it, the more I felt bad about it, so the harder it got to do any of it, so the less I did it. rinse and repeat.
I stopped playing Overwatch 2. that game is dead to me.
I saved up my pennies and did a full transition from console gamer to dual-monitor PC gamer. shit's good.
I played the first Ace Attorney game again, was struck by inspiration and wrote my first fanfiction in years. broke through the wall I had run into. back on my Teen Wolf fanfic shit.
I turned 26. now I need to go update my bio to say 25+. the last time I was here properly, I wasn't even 25. it's strangely melancholic. am I officially "old" in the RPCn now?
I GOT MY FIRST TATTOO!!! it's Sea of Thieves, in honour of how much that game has impacted me and my life.
I shaved half my hair off and also got it dyed! Liana is proud of me. I also look super cute now.
this is a list of things I should probably work on around here, to see if I can feel the buzz to properly come back. this part is mostly for me.
redo my promo (aka just make a new post. my promo is still v good after all these years lbr)
update my carrd. need to edit my rules, my about, some of Liana's verses. some will never be used, some need to be edited and maybe I'll add/update a couple.
if I remove my single-parent verse, I won't have any use for Jessica Alba as a face claim anymore?
see if I can make more/new icons
edit my tags maybe? that'd be a pain and a half but I also think my current tags are clunky and could be neater
go through my likes. try to clean up some of the clutter around here.
send memes. reblog memes. there are a couple of people I'd like to re-establish a rapport with; and hopefully some more people I'd like to establish something new with

tagged by @panwriter, thank you xx
why did you choose your url? went through the scientific names of various violets because thought it was funny because one of my names can be translated as violet or pansy in english; the finnish name of viola mirabilis happened to provide me with an additional stealth fandom reference (yeah its lehto-orvokki yeah its that Finnish War Thing). also i think violamirabilis was taken so now im just. a bunch of flowers
any side blogs? @ihmekukkavesi for my photos - pretty inactive because, ah, im, how do you say, lazy as fuck, and @shineondoc for university hell
how long have you been on tumblr? since december 2011 babeyyyy
do you have a queue tag? no i do not. this shitshow is always brought to you in real time
why did you start your blog in the first place? classic rock fandom, especially pink floyd. i was sixteen and lonely and had no one my age to bond with over the music and the musicians i liked
why did you choose your icon/pfp? thats a selfie. i have a good face. ive been thinking about updating it for a week now though since i changed my hair and am blonde again but im lazy, you know how it is
why did you choose your header? symposion by akseli gallen-kallela. theres two reasons and they are 1) love the “night out with the lads but its 1894 and we cant take a selfie so im just gonna have to paint a fucking oil painting later” thing its got going on and 2) LOVE the colors. this painting has also been my phone homescreen bg for a long time
what’s your post with the most notes? uhh. probably this?
how many mutuals do you have? quite a few. no really ive never counted i dont know the exact number. ive had this blog for ten years for gods sake.
how many followers do you have? 2326. dont know how many are active
how many people do you follow? 654. also dont know how many are active and oftentimes its like i intend to do some Spring Cleaning and come across blogs that havent been active in YEARS but i just. cant bring myself to unfollow them because what if they come back someday
have you ever made a shitpost? have you not? of course i have.
how often do you use tumblr everyday? many quick checks throughout the day whenever im bored and theres a notification on my phone. how else does one “use” tumble dot hell
did you have a fight/argument with another blog once? hm. i mean not really? like. there was that one time i noticed someone reposted a friends edit claiming it as their own even though it had said friends url on it and everything and i said something along the lines of hey dont do that thats not cool and then got a Mysterious Anon message that said something along the lines of fuck you bitch what are you gonna do. this was Years ago. also there was another time, also years ago, when i got another mysterious anon that was like “i dont like you” and then “oh you think youre so perfect well you ARE i should just go kill myself” because ?? someone they followed followed me as well and apparently reblogged a lot of my posts and ??? yeah i dont know either.
how do you feel about “you need to reblog this”? guilt tripping bullshit. like, sure, if the post is legit important and the “WHY ARENT PEOPLE TALKING ABOUT THIS” comment is in the reblogs or something i might rb from the source or otherwise without That Comment. and yes i have reblogged posts with those comments before, again, have been here for a long time, but, eh. im not very likely to touch a post that has a comment like that. im tired. im twenty six. i read news. even watch em on tv sometimes if im somewhere with a tv. tumblr is not where i Go Get My Fix Of News.
do you like tag games? yeah!! i keep forgetting to do them but i do love them and being tagged in them!
do you like ask games? yeah! but im so fucking lazy and forgetful!
which of your mutuals do you think is tumblr famous? theres a few! and theres a few who have like. one or two posts that got Huge and i keep seeing those posts on a whole different corner of my dash and go oh :) hey thats my friend :)
do you have a crush on a mutual? nope
tagging: uhh my brains been buffering for five minutes so im not gonna tag anyone at this time sorrY

OOC Statement:
Hello, All.
My name is Moe, or Admin/Vice Provost O, and it was brought to attention of myself and Daisy/Admin/Vice Provost D that there was a list of claims about us, the admins, and Joie as a whole, posted a few hours ago.
Part of me worries that addressing this will create a sort of opposite-Streisand Effect where acknowledging this brings it to the attention of a multitude more people than who would have seen it if we chose to simply ignore it. But the main goal and mantra of this RP from day one has been transparency, and I refuse to renege on that now.
The tl;dr is that these claims are falsified. They come from ex-members who, for any number of reasons, left or were removed on poor terms.
Now that the tl;dr is out of the way, please take a breath and prepare yourself for the tl.
Utilizing everything that I have at my disposal, I will dispute each of these claims to the best of my ability.
For all screenshots, I will block out the names/icons of other people since at the end of the day, the point of this is not to expose anyone. We simply want to clear our name of these false claims. The ace flag Grant Gustin icon is me. The Andy icon is Daisy.
During these refutes, I will be picking out specific screenshots, but, for the sake of transparency, in the morning, I will edit this post to post the full conversations at the very end.
I will be jumping around a bit, but I will start in reverse order after the cut.
False Testimony 4 has a lot of moving parts, but I will do my best to address each one. (With screenshots, when applicable.)
‘Testimony’ 4, Claim #1: “It became very clear within a matter of a few weeks that they didn’t really like minority characters. I was among one of two minority charcters among mostly white males who were gay.”
To say that we don’t/didn’t like minority characters is absurd. At Joie, we have always loved and cherished all of our characters, but especially muses that tend to be neglected in the community, such as POC, nonbinary/genderqueer, and muses with disabilities. We even do our best to celebrate that by having the ability to sort our followlist via some of those identities, and by doing our best to suggest POC FCs when our current members consider picking up additional characters.
As anyone who runs an RP for a while knows, the makeup of an RP moves in waves. For example, there are definitely times when there are far more male FCs in comparison to other genders--especially in an RP like ours that doesn’t believe in placing bans on certain types of characters. With that in mind, without being able to go back and see exactly who was apart of Joie when this player joined, they are more than likely correct that there were few other POC muses. But in no way does that translate into saying that we ‘don’t like’ or are somehow against POC muses.
Similarly, I am a black female myself. Not only that, but I am plus-sized, and considered Mercedes to basically be my mirror while growing up. (Picture of my hand below as evidence.) Meaning that false claim hurts in more ways than one.
‘Testimony’ 4, Claim #2: “Both an admin and another character wanted their character with Sam but Sam was interested in Mercedes.”
This claim is solely their word against mine, and it is definitely small potatoes in comparison to some of the larger claims, but I find this important to dispute for two reasons: 1, it continues to break apart this false claim that the admins in some way ‘didn’t like’ or ‘had it out’ for this player, and 2, it showcases that the person making this claim is, unfortunately, an unreliable narrator.
My dispute to this is the following: At the time that this Mercedes player was with us, I had 2 characters and Daisy had only 1. My first character and Daisy’s single character where in a slow-burn ‘will they, won’t they’ plot with each other that lasted the entire time Mercedes was there and then some. My 2nd character, Spencer, was/is a lesbian. If anything, I feel that maybe this player felt I was interested in having Spencer be with Sam because they were best friends. However, as previously mentioned, Spencer is and always has been a lesbian. So that simply is not the case.
‘Testimony’ 4, Claim #3: “ It all came to a head when Jeff and Mercedes got into a fight because Jeff’s new boyfriend had hurt Sam’s feelings and Mercedes took up for her boyfriend. Jeff started being really disrespectful to her and then wrote a text to his boyfriend saying if Mercedes showed up to the sorority house he would kick her ass and kick her out by her nappy ass weave. That pissed me off. I felt like that was extremely disrespectful and racist. You don’t say things like that. It hurt me OOC as a black woman and IC as a Mercedes player But the admins did nothing.”
Thankfully, we’re to our first claim with hard evidence to dispute with. While it is true that this situation did, unfortunately occur, it is completely false to say that the admins did nothing. Here is a conversation between myself and the player showcasing the exact opposite.
(The text conversation in question was unfortunately written over so I cannot link to it, but I’d like to mention some additional things about this situation:)
Much like I said in the conversation, I originally didn’t read the texts to be inherently or explicitly intended to be racist. I read it more in the way of how talking about ‘weave’ and the like has/had started to become just as prominent in the gay community as it is the black one. But, also like I mentioned in the conversation, I recognized that she more than likely had a different background/history with the word than I did, so I wanted to still address the situation however I needed to in order to make sure that she, as the victimized party, still felt comfortable.
As seen in the conversation, she said all she needed was to get it off her chest. And even with her saying she did not need any more action to be made, I still took it a step further and spoke to the other party, gave them a strike (Joie works on a 3 strike policy except in the case of egregious offenses), and had them remedy the situation by changing the text.
To say we did nothing is, once again, just simply false.
‘Testimony’ 4, Claim #4: “Then the player and their friend started harassing me. I told the admins over and over and they said there was nothing they could do. The player even lied on me with no proof ( I showed the admins proof of the hate) and the admins basically pressured me saying I was welcome to leave if it bothered me so much. I was really upset and hurt. The hate just continued and I finally had enough and left.”
Once again. It is false and unfair to say we did nothing. Even though we could not get an understanding from either party of where this quarrel came from, we kept an eye on this quarrel at all times.
The tl;dr of this quarrel is this: The harassment was something that was almost non-stop from both sides, and it would come in waves. We would be approached by one of the two players, we would diffuse the situation, and then a few days would pass, and another would spring up. It was a constant thing.
While I don’t have many screenshots, I do have some screenshots of things started to reach its peak. Within this screenshot, you can see that we did do everything in our power to fix this situation by urging the two to try to finally talk things out with admin moderators present instead of continuing to hash things out unhealthily on the dash via character bleeding.
(This came up as part of a larger conversation regarding this character’s lack of general activity and choice to bubble and have Mercedes be extremely argumentative/aggressive whenever they were on. This is the most relevant part, but, again, for the sake of transparency, I will post the entire conversation after this full statement is done)
Quick clarification: “We can see your custom status” refers to the custom status on discord. The status vagued about the situation in same way, although it’s been months so I can’t remember exactly what.
‘Testimony’ 4, Claim #5: “I hadn’t even thought about Joie after I left. But they hate continued. One of the admins ( I recently found out) joined a group pretending to be me with my name and was extremely rude playing Mercedes as a stereotype, thank goodness a few people who knew me told me about it and the admin left the group. Turns out she was just there to spy on their group so they could steal ideas. ”
This claim is just straight up false. It is not even ‘misremembered’ or ‘unreliable’. It is just false.
Since Joie started, I have not joined any other RP of any kind. Daisy has joined other RPs, but none of them have been Glee RPs, and none of them have been this weird ‘stereotype/stealing information’ claim.
Also, if one thinks about this claim for a few seconds longer, the whole thing makes less and less sense. If someone’s goal was to ‘steal ideas’ from an RP, why would they draw attention to themselves by: A, pretending to be someone else in the community--Especially someone who plays a rarely-picked up character? and B, playing a black woman as a stereotype--something that almost all admins would address immediately? Additionally, what ‘ideas’ would someone be stealing from an RP? And additionally, additionally, if there were somehow ideas to steal, why would someone need to join an RP to see them? Nothing regarding that claim stands up to logic.
I have come to the table with screenshots left and right. I encourage this player to please give screenshots of whatever group this supposedly is/what, pictures of the supposed blog, and/or more information about which admin this supposedly was and how they know.
Because on the off-chance that this isn’t just a completely falsified statement pulled out of thin air, it is definitely a situation where this player simply thought that we did something when we absolutely did not. Which brings us to claim 6:
‘Testimony’ 4, Claim #6: “Then they started sending hate to the Sam player pretending it was me mad at a new ship. I tried explaining that I didn’t even follow Joie anymore but the damage was done and I lost a friend and writing partner. The group the admins they are all toxic and I am still paying the price for making the mistake of joining that group.”
Much like claim 5, this claim is just false. Straight up, 100% false. Not ‘misremembered’, not ‘unreliable’. False.
And also much like claim 5, if this is not pulled completely out of thin air, it is a situation where this player simply thought that we did something when we absolutely did not. And for this claim, I actually am leaning a bit more towards it being this one.
It is obviously difficult to prove that you didn’t do something, but I have proof that the Joie main was also receiving odd and hate anons talking about Mercedes/this Mercedes player.
I logically have my suspicions that this is the Mercedes player themselves because on August 3rd, they had been away from the RP for over 7 months, and I highly doubt a ‘friend’ would be able to know we even had a Mercedes--let alone specifically her--after all that passed time, but this is about disputing claims, not making them myself, so I digress.
If nothing else, this screenshot shows that if there was someone other than the player sending weird Mercedes-specific anons, it was not us.
With ‘Testimony’ 4 out of the way, I will move my attention to ‘Testimony’ 2.
‘Testimony’ 2, Claim #1: “Hey! I just want to warn people about Joie. I honestly thought it would have died by now with the toxic admins. I joined that group near the beginning and was kicked without a single word from the admins AFTER they internet stalked me and found out my exact location. They held, and probably still hold, a grudge against me for no reason, or at least none that has ever been explained to me. It's super creepy and I'd be wary.”
There’s actually two false claims in this one statement. I will refute them in opposite order starting with the bit that’s bolded.
The tl;dr is that no one internet stalked anyone and, more importantly, no one has their exact location. (I will explain that further after giving background to the whole situation.)
This situation is another long one, but here’s the gist: The reason Daisy and I (and originally two other admins, but they are long gone) created this RP was to leave a different RP where the admins and some members were not kind to us. Not too long after Joie got off the ground, we received 3 new apps which we then accepted. Within a few moments of meeting them in the OOC, suspicions were DMed to us (both by one of our now long-gone admins and another regular player at the time) that at least one of the 3 apps was actually a person that I’ll call Z for the rest of this story, trying to pass as someone else by using a different alias and a brand new fake Discord account. Z had a negative history with one of our players, was a part of the group all 4 admins were fleeing from, and additionally had a particularly negative history with one of our long-gone admins.
Like implied in the story, we already had a history with this person, so we knew vaguely where the person lived (in the same way that all internet people talk to each other). In order to see if this person actually was Z, we checked the ping that submitted the app (more on that in a second), saw it was from the same country we know Z had mentioned living in, and then approached them about it.
While talking to Z, G (another one of the 3 apps) came forward to admit in a rage that they and the 3rd app, X, were all people with similar negative histories all doing the same thing in order to try to sneak into our RP.
Z and G left on their own accord while X was told by admins that they were going to be removed (more on that in a second).
You can see these conversations below.
Here’s Z’s convo:
Two quick clarifications: “Why both of you?” is me asking why both Z and X did this (we did not know about G’s involvement at this moment).
“There will be.” was me in the middle of preparing a server with all the admins in it so they could all be in the loop about this situation.
Here’s G’s conversation:
Two more quick clarifications: One, this is in the middle of a larger conversation where G came to me discussing IC problems with the player that all three of them had a negative history with (At this time, I had no clue G was with X and Z, so I was handling it like I would a normal quarrel.) Like others, I will put the whole conversation as a footer at the end, but above is the relevant part.
Two, like I said before, I am about transparency, so I’ve posted this conversation piece as a whole even though there is false info it in. Much like I will explain further in a second, no one stalked anyone. Nor was anyone harrassed past asking them why they chose to do this instead of just being truthful from the jump.
Now, onto addressing the “stalking” claim head on:
No one was stalked, nor did anyone find anyone’s ‘exact location’. We realized who Z and X were by looking at their pings.
For those who do not know what pings are, pings are the little dot that shows up when you go on a blog that has the ‘[blank] people online, [blank] total visitors’ code on it. This thing here:
A majority of Glee blogs nowadays have them. If you click on the links, it takes you to this page where you can see your ping.
The ping above is mine on Seblaine RPH’s blog. And I have no problem showing you this ping because it is nowhere near my real location. These pings are based on cellphone towers, so they’re vague to begin with (the really only show the state/country, and they also are usually fairly off (at least a few cities away in any direction).
This, completely readily available information that almost all Glee blogs have, is all the information that was used. The only reason it helped at all was because Z did not live in America. Something we already knew. And it confirmed that the alias we were suspicious of also didn’t live in America.
Otherwise, it told us nothing. No city, no IP address, and definitely no exact location.
To give further context, people get more personal information when they reverse search anon hate than someone could get from this ping. And people give more personal information when they simply post a picture of themselves than someone could get from this ping.
And since there are probably some people who didn’t know that’s what happens when you go on a blog, I want to add this:
In addition to this being something many Glee blogs have, we also (again in the efforts of transparency) have never shied away from explaining this process to our members when they ask.
I have screenshots of me explaining this to a member in more--and arguably, better--detail below (and this is the only conversation I will not post in full because they have nothing to do with the larger convo, and their reason for asking was personal.)
For a bit of context, using this same tactic, we found, months later, that a different player had created a fake alias and was playing more roles through that account after she was told to up activity before applying for another on her main account.
Now moving on to the other half of that false claim:
‘Testimony’ 2, Claim #2: “Hey!
Unfortunately, my conversations with X (the person I’m assuming sent this, as G and Z left in a huff on their own accord) are long deleted and gone, but I can assure that we explained to them the reason why they were removed. And the reason why I know is that because, like I said before, Joie’s mission has always been transparency.
So once they left/were removed respectively, we explained the situation to the main OOC as well. Most of it was via VC for ease on my poor fingers (unlike right now), but there’s still enough to hopefully get my point across.
Moving on to false Testimony 3 and 1:
‘Testimony’ 3, Claim: “If you are not a gay or bisexual white Male then stay away from Joie they pretend to be accepting but are not. As a minority female I was bullied constantly and the admins did nothing. But the moment the same person bullied a white male they kicked that person out. Joie is toxic.”
Much like previous false testimonies, this never happened. It’s as simple as that. This is false.
Much like mentioned before, whenever there is a situation, Daisy and I work hard to make sure that things come to a resolution as soon as possible.
Additionally, as I also mentioned before, I am also a minority female--specifically a black female. Why would I ever do something like that?
‘Testimony’ 1, Claim: “Joie Academy treated me like crap as well and practically told me that 'I seem like the kinda person no one would get along with in the real world'... I am surprised people are still there cause the admins are the worst and put me through so much.”
This is another testimony that is just completely and utterly false. Not ‘misremembered’, not ‘unreliable’. False.
I don’t have much to say on the topic past that that I haven’t already said multiple times over in other places throughout this.
In closing, I would just like to say that although I recognize and appreciate what Seblaine RPH is trying to do by warning people of problematic/toxic RPs, I am pleading that they please get both sides of a story before making such a bold post with such bold claims as he did.
False claims travel 6 times faster than real ones, and if the trend becomes that all it takes to get an RP to be considered blacklist-able is people sending false claims about it, Joie will unfortunately not be the last RP to fall victim to this.
To those of you who read this whole thing, I thank you.

A Guide to RPing on Tumblr
I’ve been getting a lot of questions lately, so here’s my complete walkthrough on how to create a Tumblr RP blog.
If you’d rather view on a Google Doc, here’s a link.
Enjoy.
Create Blog
Howdy, so the first thing you’ll have to do is click ‘register’ and make yourself a blog. You also have the choice of making a sideblog instead. I’m a person who likes to have this separated, so if you are only thinking of playing a couple characters, this might be the way to go for you. Here’s the difference between main/side blogs (taken from Tumblr’s help center):
Choose any url for now (we’ll talk about that later), and go to the next section.
Please note: When you make a new blog, it won’t show up in the search/people’s notifications for a bit of time (a day or so). Make sure you validate your email address asap.
Get xKit
If you haven’t installed xKit, I highly suggest it. Go to their blog here, and get it for Chrome, Firefox, Edge, or Opera.
What is it? A little toolkit to make Tumblr easier to use.
When you install it, it’ll pop up on your top bar thing next to the lightning bolt like this:
It’s that thing with the x’s on it.
When you click the x’s this pops up:
Brill.
You can click ‘Get Extensions’ at the bottom and basically choose whatever you want, but may I recommend the following:
1) Editable Reblogs allows you to edit reblogs. Right. This is good because when you are replying to RP threads they tend to get rather long. Some advice that was given to me when I started: when you add your reply, delete everything before your partner’s last reply. So you should have your partner’s post and your post and that’s all. You just click ‘reblog’ and it pops up like normal, except now there’s this little guy:
If you click that, it will make everything in your reblog box editable.
2) One-Click Postage gives you a little box if you hover over the reblog button. It lets you reblog, queue, draft, tag, and add replies right from that page. You can even choose which blog (main/side) you want it to go to. It looks like this:
The rest I will just say play around with! They are easy to add and take away.
Decide what kind of blog you want.
Multimuse Vs. Single muse:
Do you want to play one character or a bunch of them? If you choose one character, your blog icon and theme will presumably feature that character or something to do with them. If you choose to focus on one, you should have info about your character available on your blog somewhere. If you choose to have more than one muse, you’ll need a list of the characters you offer and some info about them.
When choosing a url for a multimuse, choose something that encompasses the spirit of you and your characters.
When choosing a url for a single muse, I go for quotes, nicknames, something about where they are from, what they like, their name, etc. Note: if you have dashes in your url (like mine @strings-have-been-cut) these won’t work with tags. People will have to turn them into separate words or one big word.
I do not have a multimuse, but I have seen them done all sorts of ways. Some people offer characters from all different fandoms, some are just one fandom, one genre, OCs, canons, a mixture...you can do what you like.
If your blog is not affiliated with any sort of organized game, this is referred to as ‘independent’ often shortened to ‘idie’.
Your blog description should mention which kind it is. For example: a sci-fi multimuse blog; a Star Trek OC blog; an indie Bill S. Preston Esq. from Bill and Ted RP blog. Details help sometimes.
Canon Character Vs. Original Character
If you decide to make a canon character, make sure you have it clear somewhere where they are from! Canon characters can be canon divergent (your own version), they can crossover into other fandoms, they can be exactly as they are in your favourite book/show/movie/podcast...each version of a canon is unique and lovely.
If you decide to make an original character, make sure you give plenty of info about them! You want to tell people what fandom they fit into or if they are fandomless. ‘About’ pages are really important for OCs because there is no fanbase for them (yet!).
What should be in your description?
When someone clicks your blog, they will first see a dash preview sort of thing. It shows a description and a small header, along with the posts you’ve made. This description also shows up somewhere on your actual blog and on the top of the page on mobile view. It’s a great spot to give all the info about your blog real quick. I always include the following:
What is it? (Independent Data from Star Trek RP blog)
Age restrictions (21+)
Who you will RP with (mutuals only is called ‘private’ and choosing who you follow back is called ‘selective’.)
Mun’s name (played by [insert your name])
Possibly a link to your about/rules for easy access on desktop and mobile. I’ll talk about this more below. I call this ‘navigation’, but it varies. Note: if you edit your icon/dash header, any html links seem to go away. I’ve needed to go back into the theme customizer and add them back in. To add a link to your description, go into your customizer, go to the description section, and add the html as follows:
<a href=”url goes here”>link text goes here</a>
So mine is: <a href=”https://data-all-in-one.carrd.co”>Indie Data from Star Trek blog.</a>
The description for my Data blog reads: ‘Indie Data from Star Trek RP blog. Click here for navigation. 21+. Private/selective. Played by Fool.
What should be on this blog?
In my experience, you need a couple of pages on your blog to get you started:
About the character - basically a biography
Rules - so people know what you are about
About the mun - so people can know about the person they are writing with
Possibly a link to your ‘ask memes’ tag - see below.
These can be organized however you like, but people tend to look for a few specific things.
About the Character
This should read like a biography. Back in the day, we used to call them ‘character apps’ and they had all your basic info about the character. Sometimes this section contains a subsection called ‘verses’ in which the mun spells out what universes they exist in. Say I had an AU where Data owns an arcade in San Francisco in the 80’s. I’d list that as one of his ‘verses’. This is extremely important for OCs, but very helpful for canons too.
Data has four: TNG era, TNG movie era, AU where he lives after Nemesis, AU where he’s around during Star Trek: Picard. I gave a little info about both.
Rules
Rules are usually organized into the things people are looking for before they start playing with you. Some good info to include:
Mun age
Your policy on adult content
How you deal with tagging triggers
Your policy on following back
Your policy on writing with mutuals vs. anyone
Do you allow personal blogs (non RP blogs) to follow you?
How fast do you reply?
How does your tagging system work?
How do you deal with shipping?
Here is a link to my usual Rules page for reference. Remember, it’s not wrong if it’s different than mine!
Note: People will look for how old you are. Many people in the RPC are adults, and they want to write with people their own age. If your age is not posted somewhere clearly, they may not follow you back.
About the Mun
This is really just a little blurb about you. Some people include their age here. Some people include links to their other blogs. Some people include their Discord info, as that’s really popular right now. It’s just nice to know who you are writing with.
It’s important to note that there are different ways to present all of these blogs. Some people have them as pages on their Tumblr blog itself, some people put all of this (Bio, About, Rules, etc) in a Google Doc and link it, some people use Carrd.co - there are a ton of ways. A friend of mine did this amazing post about some options out there. I personally go for Carrd.co, seeing as I am on mobile a lot and I find it very helpful, but it’s up to you.
Now I have a blog with all the info. How do I get started?
Well there are a few things you can do to get yourself out there.
Make yourself a promo. It’s basically an advertisement for your blog. If you aren’t good at graphics, you can head to an RP Resource blog and see if they have any you can use with their permission. You can also just post a picture with some info. For me, the info on this promo matches that of my blog description - I want people to know what I’m all about as soon as they look at it. Then you can tag for your appropriate fandom RP. Your mutuals will likely reblog to help spread the word. Yay.
Find a directory for your RPC by searching in the search. This will allow you to a) reblog your info and be listen in a place where people can find you and b) allow you to find others in your RPC in an organized way. Then you can go through, find people you think you’d like to follow, and follow them.
Make a starter or plotter call. This is, again, just a picture or graphic and some information about it. Here is one I made for Data specifically asking for Picard threads:
I asked for a specific universe and a specific character here. I also put all relative tags in case someone is just searching Tumblr (although I think it’s more for the people who follow me). Here’s a simpler one I made for B-4 that’s a lot more open.
They don’t have to be super fancy.
When people see a starter call, they can like your post. This is a quick an easy way to let you know they are interested in a thread.
4. Ask Memes. Asks are invaluable. There are whole blogs dedicated to ask memes that you can post to your blog, and these can be really easy ways for people to come up with plot ideas or just to read some of your writing. I always keep a link on my blog to everything tagged ‘ask meme’ so if people want to find a meme they have choices!
It seems like there’s a certain aesthetic on these new fangled RP blogs. Do I have to do that?
No! But you can, if you want. If you aren’t good at coding and graphics, there are a lot of RP resource sites that can help you. (Can I recommend this one?) It is nice to have things like a face claim, a nice looking promo, a cool theme, etc. but at the end of the day, we all just want to write and have fun.
Advice?
Look, I’ve only been RPing on Tumblr for a couple of months and I am by NO MEANS an expert. I have gotten all of this knowledge through the help of friends and nice strangers willing to answer questions for me. Here are a few things I have picked up:
Respect people’s rules - We are all shy and all have our own thing going on. If someone says they’re uncomfortable doing one thing, just like...don’t do it.
Talk to other people - Don’t ignore the mun! Unless they really want you to. It’s better to ask questions, compliment writing, talk about your plots and stuff...it’s so much harder than trying to figure out what the other person feels/wants.
Ask questions - I’m a 6th grade teacher, and I get a million and fuckton questions every minute usually. It’s been eye-opening, because now I’m all about asking questions about everything all the time. I think knowledge is amazing. People know all different things, and the most logical way to be a productive society is to share knowledge (that’s one of the main teachings of Surak) so ask some questions! Hell, ask me some questions! Reach out to someone who seems nice!
Okay, that’s all. Good luck!

Hi hi, it’s ya gal Rachel! To start off, this isn't really a follow forever but more of a mushy love fest. I was going to do this back in October when my blog hit 2 years but then with everything that happened... 😞✌ figured it wasn’t the best time! But since it’s the new year, I just wanted to spread some love to start off the decade, especially towards all the lovely people who have made my 2019 a little bit happier ♡ Thank you to everyone for making this such a fun & amazing year; thank you for supporting my gifs & graphics and interacting with me; overall, thank you for making Tumblr fun again! rules
This is going to be a long post, and I apologise for that. However I do not apologise for putting my boundaries as clear as possible, and will not apologise for doing so. All of the rules below exist for a reason, and I have them for my own comfort.
It is okay if you don’t agree with them but it’s not okay to ignore them. If you think you cannot follow the posted rules, then do not follow this blog. Thank you !!
General
These are the basics, a re-hash of rules that almost everyone has but that I like to cover anyway just in case!
Read ALL important pages: rules, disclaimer, muse list & info for the muse(s) you want to interact with
Use proper punctuation and spellings to the best of your abilities
Mark clearly whether an ask is IC or OOC
No godmodding
No maiming, killing, etc. of my muses without my permission
No choosing of thoughts or big actions of my muses without my permission
Hate, anon or otherwise, will be reported and deleted. Users will be blocked.
There may be an occasional mention that I do this if there’s some kind of repeat, but I will not place the content itself on the dash.
Asks and IMs are always welcome!!
More in the < Asks & Memes & Messaging > section
tracked tag is SHIELDEDSOULS and is the best chance of getting me to see a post. @’ing me will also work, but please be sure to use my url tag on top that! please also put somewhere which of my muse(s) the post is for.
Specifics
These are some of the rules that have been established over time for my own sake, and to make everyone’s time on here a lot easier!
Your age must be listed somewhere I can easily find it! I’m not comfortable writing some content with muns or muses who are under 18
If I cannot find that information I am unlikely to follow, and I will not write that content with you, as it’s safer to err on the side of caution.
If you are not comfortable with discussion and usage of DID ( dissociative identity disorder ) please do not follow as it ties heavily into my portrayal of Bucky Barnes and James ( the Winter Soldier ).
It takes time for me to check through all my followers, so please don’t ask if I haven’t followed back right away or unfollow, unless I post very specifically about dumblr fucking things up.
There’s any number of reasons I may do either, but the more we happily interact and talk the more likely I am to follow or re-follow.
With rare exception, I will not interact with any blogs that contain digits in them.
Please, please, use regularly accepted punctuation within threads.
Please.
Do not spam-reblog from me, which is reblogging 3+ posts in rapid succession. It messes up my notifications and I lose other things.
Mark clearly between IC/OOC, and which muse or npc a message is for.
ALL PERSONALS WILL BE BLOCKED
unless I can tell with a glance that there are RP sideblogs attached to them
I love my ships and will not stop writing them for someone else’s sake. I tag all visual content, but if there’s a short tag or something to be added, give me a quick little heads-up and I’ll happily tack it on. Everyone wins!
If I cannot easily navigate a blog for information, I will not follow back
easy navigation includes:
rules page
disclaimer/ooc page of some kind
tagging system
cut posts
Formatting
this little section is for what to expect from me and my writing preferences, but it is a flexible section!
I do both regular capitalization and zero capitalization for threads, depending on partner and length of the thread
memes and asks will be done in whichever I’m feeling
I do small text ONCE for aesthetic, but will leave text regular size if asked
Headlines will be done in subtext size, again mostly for aesthetic
Parentheses and brackets will be bolded and italicized, on the whole
I will @ the url of the person who sent the ask or is part of the thread
thread partner urls will also have their muse’s name listed after a slash for further clarity
I occasionally use icons, but mostly for asks, dash commentary, or silly things
all icons are 100x100
I enjoy using bold, italics, and strikethrough, but that’s about the extent of my text formatting and I try not to overdo them too much
Asks & Memes & Messaging
Asks are open to everyone!
IMs are ooc and mutuals only.
If a meme is shippy or nsfw, it is mutuals only and will require previous interaction.
All others are freebies!!
due to asks being fucked for formatting: i will tag the url of the sender on a new post, have a header to show which muse is answering, and tag the user within the post. i will also link it and privately answer the original ask where possible, to help ensure responses are seen.
for the time being I’m putting a graphic in the direct reply to an ask, adding a blockquote for tagging the sender, additional commentary, and the source meme if there is one
Any reply to an ask must be in a new post. Reblogged asks will be ignored.
Any messages saying ‘wanna rp?’ or asking for an IM will be deleted. I’m far more receptive to being approached with ideas to work with
Any messages that do no specify a muse will be deleted.
While not explicitly reblog karma, I am not a meme source and will talk to you if you always take memes from me but never send anything in or talk to me. Sometimes a meme doesn’t work and that’s fine, but there’s no excuse to never interact with me.
I often have a mix of platonic, general, and nsfw/shippy memes at my disposal, but feel free to improv something from the gist or edit sentences to suit our muses better!! Creative fun is why we’re here <3
OCS & Sideblogs & MuMus & Second-Gens
Information must be easy to navigate and read, same as for canons/single muse blogs!
Sideblogs, please list somewhere OBVIOUS what the main blog is called so I know what to look out for.
Mumus, I love you and your dedication, but I am most selective with you. Yes, even as a mumu myself.
The more fandoms covered and more muses included, the less likely I am to hop on board mostly because I prefer a clean dash.
If we’re close friends ooc I’ll likely be far more lenient
OCs with an mcu-canon faceclaim will not be accepted unless the muse has been around longer than the canon being cast or if they look markedly different than the canon ( Karen Gillan with all her hair vs as Nebula, for example ).
more in the < canons & fcs > section
Unless plotted otherwise, they will not know my muses, but they can know of my muses
Second-Gens ( kids of the original set(s) of main canons ) make me uncomfortable for a number of reasons, and so will be interacted with on a case-by-case basis.
I am unlikely to follow unless we know each other very well ooc
Canons & FCs
Again, OCs with mcu-canon faceclaims will not be interacted with unless they meet at least one of the two criteria listed above.
However, if I pick a FC for someone related to this blog that isn’t canon, it’ll likely be shrugged off as uncanny lookalike, or we can otherwise plot around it.
Animated FCs are welcome, but I’ll admit that specifically anime blogs are unlikely to be interacted with. Sorry
If a canon has an alternate faceclaim: cool! Just have it listed somewhere obvious, please
FCs I will not interact with: Mark Sheppard, Selena Gomez, Mads Mikkelsen, Miley Cyrus, Justin Beiber, Sara Bareilles, Andrew Scott, Zooey Deschanel, Natalie Dormer. The list may be periodically updated; yes, it is okay to ask me about specific names and why these ones are listed.
Shipping
There will be a good deal of F/F, F/M, and M/M on this blog both in visual and text.
May ( read: probably will ) include three+somes.
Implication and mention to graphically clear are likely, and will be tagged.
By default, ALL my muses are single, with the noted exceptions of Frigga ( until Odin chooses to pass ) Dugan and Peggy if it’s circa 1952-after, and Sam who is widowed and single post-2012, unless plotted otherwise.
Please don’t assume there will be a ship between your muse and mine without plotting first, positively or negatively !!
Specific to Peggys: don’t be alarmed by my above warning, Dugan/Peg is my muses only and not something I expect to be followed. I will also not expect a ship with Steve.
specific to Steves: I will not expect a ship with Peggy, Bucky, or Sharon
However, Bucky loves Steve, bordering on obsessively. Whether it’s platonic, romantic, or completely one-sided pining is up to plotting and muse chemistry.
if we are writing stucky, Bucky is the one who will be in it first.
James is incredibly anxious about dealing with Steve for many reasons, and more anxious about the possibility of infringing on Bucky’s territory.
It is one of few ships that will require Bucky’s active participation if you want James involved, because James will refuse Steve otherwise.
if we are writing steggy, it will not be eg-canon compliant
Specific to Peppers: Tony cares ( depending on point in time, deeply ) for her, but I will not expect a ship and it must be plotted out.
They could be exes, almosts, currently dating, platonically attached, whatever we would like! But it must be plotted.
specifically for Janes: I do not automatically lead with fosterson! My default is somewhere between slow burn infatuation or mutual, friendly separation. Thor adores her in any type of relationship though, and supports her endeavors and enthusiasms
For Bucky and James, dating one of them does not mean you have to be dating the other.
It would be marginally easier depending on time and verse tho
Specifically for Natashas: I include the generality of James being at the Red Room, but we must plot about including the affair or not. It is not my default canon.
if we are defaulting to winterwidow, James is the one most familiar with her, not Bucky. James was the fronting personality when they originally met, and Bucky’s recollection of events will be hazy if present at all.
If you want to ship Nat with Bucky, it must be plotted and must account for the prior/continuing relationship with James
For Sharon, she has no romantic interest in men ( yes including Steve ).
if she ends up with a comics-inclined verse this may change but will still require heavy plotting.
I will not be ship-exclusive with any blogs
I will have mains but it’s on unofficial terms
For all my writing partners: I will happily plot ships, and details! But I won’t have an assumed prior romantic/sexual history between our muses.
Again, I know this bit is particularly long !! But it’s very necessary for my comfort and yours as a baseline of whether we might get along or not. Thank you again for pulling through all the reading; if you’re staying, awesome !! If you’re not, I’m sorry to see you go but I hope you find the writing happiness you want <3

Got an ask about how I do my edits, so here’s a quick rundown.
Under a read more for the sake of everyone’s dash
I’m making icons here, so I started with a canvas that’s 300x300 (my default icon size). Headers I do 1280x720, and wallpapers I do 360x630, but the overall process is the same.
I chose my art - here it’s the p5r render of Ren. I opened it on it’s own, copied it, & pasted it onto my icon. Resized & positioned it how I want.
Now I chose my background color. I always do the background color in a separate layer. So I make a new layer, put it under the layer that has the art, and fill it completely with my background color. Pretty simple stuff so far.
Next, I do shadows/outlines. It’s just a stylistic choice to add these, but I tend to think the icons are a little plain without them. These go in their own layers, beneath the art but above the background.
To make shadows, I right-click on the art layer and scroll to the bottom of the pop-up menu, clicking on “alpha to selection.” That selects everything on the layer that is not transparent. This selection stays, so click on to the layer you want to add the shadow on and fill the selection with the color you want (I always do black).
So now you should have a layer that’s just like a blacked out version of the art. Move it, so it looks like a shadow being cast by the art. Usually I just shift it to one side, as long as the edges of the blacked out art aren’t visible, you can move it as far as you want. For example, this shows the edges of the layer, so I wouldn’t wanna move it that far
I set this layer to “overlay” or “grain merge.” Grain merge works better for lighter colored backgrounds, but here’s a comparison between them:
Do whichever you prefer! Personally, I feel like for this icon, overlay is too light but grain merge is too dark, so I’m going to set it to grain merge and lower the opacity a bit.
Usually, that would be the end of it! Export it, and that’s all! If I’m going for variety (for icon sets, perhaps) I might export this and then do a different background color.
However, I also mentioned outlines! To make those, it’s actually easier than shadows. It starts the same way - right click the layer with the art and choose “alpha to selection”. However, instead of filling this selection right away, we’re gonna go up to the menu bar at the top of the window and click the ‘select’ tab. Scroll down to ‘grow’.
This opens a pop-up, where you can input how many pixels you’d like the selection to increase by. Generally I use 5 as a starting point, and then I can increase/decrease that number based on whatever I think looks best for the edit.
Again, on a layer below the art, you fill this selection with whatever color you’d like. Usually I go for white, but since this particular art already has a yellow outline, I used the same yellow. I actually did two outlines (both in their own layers, the smaller yellow one above the larger white one).
It’s really done now! You can do shadows and outlines together, if you feel so inclined! I think it tends to make the art look a little like a sticker if you do a white outline and a shadow together, which can be a cute effect.
(Doesn’t that remind you a little of a sticker??)
#icon tutorial#?#in case anyone except that anon was curious.#this is just how i do my icons. lots of other people do theirs differently#i like to think i have a sort of style to my edits tho w the outlines and shadows and stuff#yknow something that might make the recognizable as an edit done by me

October 19th-October 25th, 2019 Creator Babble Archive
The archive for the Creator Babble chat that occurred from October 19th, 2019 to October 25th, 2019. The chat focused on the following question:
Describe your design process for new characters. How do you go about it?
Holmeaa - working on WAYFINDERS
Ohooh it is my time! First I draw a bunch of quick drawings of body and face We are a small team, so then we had discussions, we knew how they looked in general, sallly had to be small with curls etc. Then when the body was chosen it was time to draw outfits. Since we are doing a whole world we had to find out about what kind of clothing generally people would wear, what accessories, what does nobels and rich wear, contra poor, what is religious garments. Then the faces had to be chosen and drawn again. Then when all elements was in place, it was time for colors. For Lani, I did like 30 different versions of colors, ans combination before we found the right one. For side characters there has been only a few sketches, and since we knew the whole class system with clothing, it was easier to pick and match compared to place in society. Then thinking about the role the person have in society. Next is designing scientist, and that's going to be fun!

Oh damn I love all this! I never thought of actually mapping out all the different classes religious/ non religious formal/ casual etc. That's so smart! And these designs are so cute ahhhh
Holmeaa - working on WAYFINDERS
aaw thanks! It was very important for us that it was clear to see! Since the man Andrée is a nobel, and Sallly was part of a crime gang, and Lani is a tempelgirl, and we do have a lot of different social groups
The Q - working on WAYFINDERS
And their homeland is very northern/Viking inspired. I'm very excited to show the other country in the story, which has a much more Mediterranean flavor!
Also yes @Holmeaa - working on WAYFINDERS is super impressive!
Holmeaa - working on WAYFINDERS
Aaaaaaaw you are too sweet!
AntiBunny
Process? Not so much a process as an idea forms in my subconscious and then like Athena rises fully formed in armor from my head. After that they will go through a few revisions. Usually they get simplified a bit, I try to make them a bit more iconic, and easier to draw repeatedly of course.
In AntiBunny http://antibunny.net/ this resulted in some of the earlier character designs being a tad inconsistent, for instance a character in a T-Shirt interacting with a character in a long winter coat.
Since then I've been trying to come up with more consistent seasonal outfit designs. With Book 2 I think I've gotten a lot more consistent with the outfits all making it very clear that it's summer.
So short version is that it starts out with them forming organically from loose ideas, then getting refined and redesigned over time. Not exactly the most scientific approach I know.
LadyLazuli (Phantomarine)
For new major characters in Phantomarine (http://www.phantomarine.com/) I usually try to design a character and draw them at least 5 times before I have them show up in the comic. Their initial design usually pops into my head pretty quickly, but I do a bunch of test drawings to A) see what looks best and B) isolate things that might be difficult to replicate, and simplify them as much as I can. For new minor characters, my process is way more haphazard - and I’ll admit I fall back on a lot of similar face and body shapes when designing incidental crowd characters or random one-line characters.
But the area I’ve had the most fun jumping into - and didn’t expect to even try out - was costume design. I imagined my characters staying in their main outfits for the entire story, but was encouraged to design wardrobes for each, just as a fun exercise at first. And now, I see outfit-swaps as ways to get out of drawing ruts - and it’s more fun for the readers, too! Makes total sense that characters would switch clothes over a longer story, so when I started doing it, it was not only a “OF COURSE!” moment, but a huge relief in terms of being allowed to try new designs. I’m really looking forward to drawing my characters in all sorts of different ways now.(edited)
The Q - working on WAYFINDERS
THem color schemes though!
MJ Massey
I need to get better about this. I usually slap dash throw characters together, especially background characters, but based on their character traits, I have an idea of how I want them to look.
For my main characters, I start drawing them a couple times, mostly just doodles and then like a concept art or two to really get the hang of them, but I find that drawing them in the comic is what gets them under my fingers the best
Emily and Chester were the ones I designed first, as the two mains I wanted to make sure they would play off each other well. With Emily, the key thing was to make sure she wasn't too cute or attractive--she's supposed to be kind of plain looking and a little drab
Chester, in contrast, is soft and playful looking while Emily is more angular and sharp
Cronaj
For Whispers of the Past, my characters have gone through several redesigns over the years, as I spent time planning the comic, getting better at drawing, and discovering the deeper personalities of my characters. As it is my first comic, I wasn't very organized in my initial process. Since my art style is not very cartoony, I don't use the same stylistic cues to help the readers tell the characters apart, and instead, I rely on a lot of subtle features to tell them apart, such as Agatha's thick eyebrows and full lips:
Or Izrekiel's round under-eye, or his round face:
Some of these reference sheets are more complete than others, and some are older or newer depending on how much help I needed when adjusting each character's designs to my evolving style.
Desnik
I usually start with writing them before I totally know what they look like. Sometimes they wind up with props that I need to work into the design as the story gets rewritten.
Deo101 (Millennium)
For me I generally have a solid idea in my mind before I start drawing. I draw that idea, refine it a bit, and then I draw them about 10-100 more times, depending how much they'll show up. For background characters i pretty much design them right then and there, but for major and minor named characters, i need to get comfortable with them and really test how they react to things. I also will paint my main characters, because I find that forcing myself to fully realize what the character would look like realistically really helps me be more informed when I'm simplifying them later! I tend to focus pretty strongly on color, and tend to monochrome designs. There is also some research involved, where i make moodboards once i get the initial design down so I can refine things! A lot, i know.

GIF PACK POLL RESULTS !
so, as you’ve probably seen over the last few days if you follow me, i posted a survey a few days ago about gif packs and people’s relationships with reblogging them. i mostly posted it out of curiosity, as i’d noticed a few patterns over the years and wanted to see what some actual, physical data would look like, and the lovely @stevienick pointed out that the results would be useful for fellow gif makers, so here we are ! i wasn’t sure if anybody would respond, so thank you to everybody who did & a very big thank you to everybody who boosted the post ! i’m very grateful ♡
quick note:
it might be easier to view the results if you add /mobile to the end of the url, as i know a contained theme can squish things sometimes ! i’m gonna talk about the results of each question a little, but of course you are more than free to ignore my ramblings and just observe for yourself, and you can ctrl +f to the questions if you’re looking for results for a specific one !
the results:
DO YOU REBLOG GIF PACKS?
i looked at how the results were doing whenever i had a free moment when the survey was up, and i think i ended up checking on it about eight or so times in that time, and in the first twelve hours or so, ‘i will like but not reblog’ had no votes, so it’s very interesting to me that as time went on and more people responded, this changed ! while the other questions are helped by the poll only being taken by people that do interact with gif packs in terms of notes, i do wish maybe a couple of people who won’t like, reblog, etc no matter what, had responded, but i’m glad they didn’t as that means that people ( or at least those people who filled out the survey ) are following gif makers’ rules, and that’s fantastic.
WHY WOULD YOU REBLOG A GIF PACK?
i feel like i want to start everything with ‘this was really interesting, because...’ but it all was ! i found everything really interesting, especially watching the majorities change over time, but something specifically that i found myself thinking Hmm,,, Inch Resting™ while observing, was the most popular responses shifting and changing over time. admittedly, for some reason, i wasn’t expecting so many people to admit to reblogging a gif pack of a person they’ve never seen before just because they’re attractive, and i don’t know why, as there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that ! it just surprised me ! but, unsurprisingly, the results show that the vast majority of people are more likely to reblog a gif pack of a fc they like, and that makes nothing but sense to me. i do love, though, that the vast majority of people just want to show appreciation for the work put into gif packs.
the ‘other’ responses:
the ‘i wouldn’t’ confused me for half a second, but i’m assuming it came from one of the people who said they like the gif packs but don’t reblog them -- in hindsight, i definitely should’ve included an ‘n/a’ option ! to find later is a very valid answer, and i think i should’ve included that in ‘because i want to use the gifs’ -- i think those responses are similar enough to be included in the same umbrella, so i’d just image the yellow bar being a little bit longer, and the percentages going up a smidgen, if you’re wanting to use this data to your advantage. to spread awareness of more fc’s is definitely an option i should’ve included in hindsight ! lots of gif makers make wonderful gifs of people the rpc may not know all that much about, so signal boosting them and letting the world know they have resources is a great reason to reblog a pack, and works nicely as a ‘hey there’s no excuse for not having diversity in your rp, look at this cute person with nice gifs’ and i definitely hadn’t thought of that when typing up the questions !
WHERE DO YOU FIND THE GIF PACKS YOU REBLOG?
i should’ve worded this better, by acknowledging that ‘likes’ also count here, but it seems as though those who said they like but don’t reblog got the gist of what i was going for, and answered that way for me anyway. basically, what i meant by this one was ‘if you’re interacting with a gif pack, where did you find it?’
anyway, unsurprisingly, the vast majority of people find gif packs either on their dash, or in the tags, and i feel like a lot of us take this into consideration when posting our packs. more people are going to see the post if it’s posted on a friday or saturday evening, than 11am on a tuesday, even with timzeones taken into consideration, and we use that knowledge to our advantage already.
the ‘other’ responses:
makes sense, but it does make me wonder where the original posts were found in the first place !
the end result was nothing surprising, i don’t think. i think the limit of having five functioning tags is a little limiting when trying to get packs out there. i usually tag ‘#fc name gif hunt #fc name gif pack #gif pack #rph’ and then a wildcard. sometimes it’s the fc’s name, and i try and make an educated-guess-type-of-judgement on whether that one’s a good idea. sometimes it’s another one of the rpc tags. this question is one of the ones that i was really glad i included an ‘other’ option, as i think they’re very useful for the most part.
the ‘other’ responses:
tags like gmcentral and gifpackshq are great because they can be used by anybody, and after seeing the results, i’m wondering if i personally might swap out some of my usual tags in favour of them ! tags such as tasksweekly and gifpacknetwork are wonderful, and we know to use them when applicable. i do love that all four of those tags are being used even by the people who aren’t running those blogs associated with them, in favour of finding more resources. i didn’t know that people still actively searched for faces and gif packs in tags like ‘underused fc’ -- and any tags like that -- so that one was super interesting, and definitely something i’m going to think about ! and while i like that people are using icons ( i love me a good rp icon, don’t get me wrong ) this poll is specifically about gif packs, so do with that data what you will.
WHAT INFORMATION TO FIND YOU FIND HELPFUL WHEN INCLUDED IN THE POST?
i know i said i’d practically be saying this for every one, but this was really interesting. it’s also another time when i think that hindsight is wonderful, because i think now i should’ve included a question asking how often someone will click the link to view the gifs, and if it’s only if they plan on using them, or they might click the link to see what the others look like beyond the preview before reblogging, but close the page after a few have loaded and they can see that everything looks fine, etc. the reason i say this now, is because i know that some people include this information on the page the gifs are stored on, but not in the post, and i’m wondering if it makes a difference. however, the question did ask what information is helpful in the post, so i’m going to keep that in mind when looking at the results. i think this is one of the questions hat i found most helpful to me personally, as i don’t include the the three most popular results in the post. the second and third most popular, i include on the gif page, but i don’t put any of the top three in the post, and i should think about changing that.
the ‘other’ responses:
it was when the ‘others’ started rolling in that i realised that i should’ve worded the question better. it should’ve been ‘what extra information do you find helpful...’ and i’m glad some folks pointed it out, as i deem trigger/content warnings to be a necessity. to me, the basic information would be name of the fc, how any gifs are in the pack, the source material, and then any content warnings, and anything else is just extra information, but i didn’t say that, so i’m very glad people mentioned trigger warnings and the number of gifs in a pack - thank you !
WHAT’S YOUR PREFERRED METHOD OF ACCESSING THE GIFS IN A PACK?
for quite a while, a download link had absolutely no votes -- in the end, it only got four, but it’s nice to know that people do still use them ! other than that, i don’t think this one was at all surprising, but still helpful to see it written down.
PLEASE SELECT ALL STATEMENTS YOU AGREE WITH...
this one was fascinating. nearly half of people only reblog gif packs of fcs they like, lots of people care more about bumping faces of colour and nb and/or trans fcs than plus sizes or disabled ones, lots more people admitted to being more inclined to reblog a gif pack if they find the fc attractive than i thought would, and the number of people saying that they’re not more likely to reblog younger fcs than older was a lot less than i thought --- i’m sure i’m not the only one who’s noticed that gif packs of younger faces tend to get more notes than those of older, even if you take out any other variables that could skew that number. all very interesting results, and results i think we’ll all find useful. it’s also nice to see that people tend to care more about accessibility than about aesthetics, with more people having an ‘upper size limit’ for gifs than having a lower one, and it’s nice that 93% of people are fine with reblogging gifs of people they’ve never heard of and opening themselves up to new faces !
DO YOU MAKE GIF PACKS?
so i added this one on the end to see if the results would differ based on whether the person responding makes gifs ( in my head, i was wondering if gif makers are more likely to seek out other people’s gifs to reblog to support other gif makers, and things like that ! ) so it’s very interesting and helpful to know that, while not equal, there’s a good chunk on both ends of the spectrum, and some folks in the middle who make gifs but not packs, or edit gifs into gif icons.
end of results ! if anybody wants to talk about anything to do with the above info, or has any questions, i’m more than happy to chat ! i think i’m going to use some of this information in the future, and hopefully it’s helpful to fellow gif makers out there ! i don’t want to be too ‘in conclusion...’ about all of this, but i do just want to say that it’s very interesting to see written down, with actual evidence, that there are a lot of factors into why someone may or may not reblog a gif pack, and why some packs do better than others ( obviously, a gif pack posted by someone with 1000 followers will do better than someone with 100, even if it’s of the same quality and posted at the same time; more people are going to see it. but i mean more stripping it back to the things we can control like tags used and the layout of the post etc ) and i think if i were to do this again, there are things i’d add ( maybe preference for number of gifs previewed on the post, size/dimensions preference, and things like that ? ) and things i’d clarify, but in general i’m really pleased with how insightful this has been, and if i say interesting one more time i think i may combust, but it legitimately has all been very interesting. again, thank you very much to everyone who responded, and i hope others find this helpful or at least interesting !

Okay, so, hi everyone? I’ve gotten some new followers, which is a bit surprising, and I’m sure some of you are aware of the discourse currently happening the mdzs fandom. Normally, as my about page states, I will not participate in fandom discourse under any circumstances, but as I was personally signaled out in this, I’ll be making an exception just this once. I’ll be placing everything under a cut just so those of you who don’t want this discourse showing up on your dash can avoid it.
Okay, so if you’re unaware, a blocklist was recently created of people in the fandom that minors should avoid/be aware of. I, as well as one of my good fandom friends, was on this list. I will not be posting links to said list in any way, shape, or form, as I believe it is poorly worded and just wholely not handled well in its original context.
I’d like to preface this entire post with one important idea: you curate your own fandom experience. I actually encourage blocking/blacklisting things and people who make you uncomfortable, just be respectful about it. You don’t need to announce it, or let someone know you’re blocking them. If I in any way make you uncomfortable for any reason, and you are uncomfortable talking to me about it to try and fix the problem, then please unfollow me, block me, or whatever will make you the most happy and comfortable. In the end, fandom is about fun, and it shouldn’t be taken too seriously. It shouldn’t be used to hurt people.
I can’t say I’m not upset that I and my friend were included, and while I don’t know most of the people on that list enough to make a judgment, based on the reasons my friend and I were listed, I don’t believe the judgment of the original creator of the list was wholly sound. For full transparency, I am going to include why I, personally, was signaled out.
The first reason is for my submission here: https://mxtxpositivity.tumblr.com/post/183334608470/fic-rec-realize-what-you-never-knew-by
The fic I recommended is a fic that the friend I previously mentioned wrote, and I recommended it because I enjoy it and I enjoy supporting my friend’s writing. Now, the fic in question is about the junior trio, but it is written in a context where they are older and not minors. To be fair, my friend did not tag for this, and the lack of a tag for it was not something that I, as her beta, caught, either. I don’t particularly intend to debate whether or not it’s okay to write sexual content about young characters after they’ve been aged up, as it’s a rather gray area and whether it will bother you will vary. If it does bother you, however, that’s perfectly valid and I encourage you to avoid it. Blacklisting is a wonderful thing, and ao3 now includes a function to exclude ships.
The second reason I was signaled out in this post is for this: http://hypermoyashi.tumblr.com/tagged/yaoi
And just so it’s clear that I have not altered or cleared this in any way, here’s a screenshot with the time and date in the corner:
I would scroll down to show you guys more of the tag, but there is none. My yaoi tag is just two posts. This is the basis for which I was said to “support yaoi.” I’d like to point out that one post is literally a criticism of the genre as a whole. I have no idea why I tagged the second post as yaoi, but it was reblogged three years ago. It is not something I would reblog and tag that way today. I’ve used the same blog, the same username, for well over seven years now. There is bound to be some stuff here that doesn’t reflect who I am today, and there is also bound to be things that I’ve mistagged or not tagged appropriately in the past. I do not have the energy to clean absolutely everything out, but if you would like to point something out to me, I will be happy to change it. For my purposes, I’m not going to be altering my yaoi tag, in case anyone wants to check it for themselves.
Now, just as an off-topic, I’d like to point out that I’m bi/gray ace. I don’t hate yaoi per say, but I do dislike the picture its common tropes paint of the lgbtqa+ community, as anyone who has spoken with me for five minutes about it can tell you.
This is all I was flagged for, but in the name of transparency, I am also going to include something that, had our original poster of the list seen, would’ve been additional reasons for me to land on the list.
I am writing an A.B.O. fic for HOB. It will also contain an explicit scene in the future, and it contains some pretty heavy triggers such as attempted suicide and CSA/abuse. I know A.B.O. tends to be controversial for many, many reasons, but for the record, all characters retain their full facilities during any and all explicit scenes, on or off screen, and are able to consent or not consent to what is going on. Anything of that nature that happens to a minor does not happen on screen and is appropriately tagged as CSA. I also do not endorse or want minors reading this fic, but I’ll get into that later.
Now, does any of this disprove that I’m a potential danger to minors? No, it does not.
For one, disproving a negative is an impossibility. To demonstrate this, I’ll be using the same analogy my statistics teacher used. You have a field. You’re looking for cows. To find some cows, you divide the field up into twenty sections. Unfortunately, you only have the capability to check five of the sections. You check these five sections, and you don’t find any cows. Can you say, for sure, that there are no cows in the field? Nope. Because it’s impossible to check every section, and there could be cows in the sections you don’t check.
I cannot open up the entirety of my memory and history to prove that I have definitely never hurt a minor. It is absolutely never my intention, and if I have, I deeply apologize for it. But I have no way of disproving a negative because it is mathematically impossible.
Now that we’ve gotten up to this point, some of you might be thinking, isn’t treating such a baseless accusation so seriously, in a way, giving it validity? Well, in a way, sort of. The accusation is entirely baseless, yes, and this is going to be the only time I’m going to argue something like this in this way. It upset me, and it’s there, so I want to address it.
Now, I’m going to reference my about page. Here it is:
The text reads, “Hello! I thought, after about five years of owning this blog, give or take, it was probably time to make an about page.
“I mainly write fanfiction, which is almost always posted to ao3 and linked here unless it’s particularly short. Minors are definitely welcome; I don’t reblog or post N**SFW images or videos, nor do I write smut, though please be aware that this blog is “view at your own risk.” I tag for common triggers and potentially harmful content, so it’s up to you to know your limits and blacklist appropriately. That being said, if you need me to tag anything in addition to what I already do, please don’t hesitate to ask!
“My fandoms right now are mainly Bungou Stray Dogs, Heaven Official’s Blessing, Mo Dao Zu Shi, Hakata Tonkotsu Ramens, Pandora Hearts, Vanitas no Carte, Akatsuki no Yona, and D.Gray-man. Please be aware that although I do have particular ships I like, I’m not really that into shipping as a whole.
“I don’t reblog shipping discourse nor will I interact with hostile shippers. If you would like to talk about shipping with me, please do, just be nice! As a bonus, I love platonic relationships, so please talk with me about those if you enjoy them, too.
“ところで、私の日本語はちょっとわるいですけど、話すのが好きです。
“Finally, I consider this blog to be a safe place for me and others that does not discriminate based on race, gender identity, sexual orientation, mental health, physical ability, national origin, or religion. If that bothers you, please click the “back” or “x” button on your browser.
“With all that out of the way, welcome to my blog! I love talking with people, so feel free to message me or leave an ask. I swear you won’t be bothering me. Happy blogging!”
Now, I am going to edit this at some point, because I have written smut now. It’s not posted, but it’s still something I intend to post. But yeah, as of 3/13 around 5pm, that was my about page, and I have not changed it for quite a while. (Sorry I’m not quite as chipper today ^^”)
One of the links on my about page leads to this page:
Which reads:
A quick guide to my tagging system!
my fanfiction: stuff I’ve written
text post: stuff I’ve made/said
q: things posted from my queue (it is a very long queue)
art by op: If there’s no source, then I’m reasonably certain that this art was created by the original poster. If I’m wrong, please let me know and I’ll delete it imeidiately.
icons: whenever I save an icon, whether I use it or not, I reblog it under this tag
personal and/or ramblings: just me talking. Sometimes I won’t even tag these kinds of posts
— mention: normally reserved for common triggers, i.e. “Donald Trump mention” or “sex mention”
n**sfw warning: as stated in my about page, I don’t reblog n**sfw images or videos, but I do reblog n**sfw fic recs (ie links to explicit content) that is unsuitable for minors. If you’re a minor viewing my blog, please blacklist this tag if you feel the need to!
spoilers: anything and everything I think constitutes a spoiler. Sometimes I’m bad about tagging these, though. I don’t tag for specific fandoms, like “su spoilers” or “bsd spoilers,” so please beware of that.
And, for reference, this is the basis for which I generally rate my fics:
G (General Audiences): Anyone can read this
T (Teen Audiences): Anyone 13+ can read this
M (Mature Audiences): Anyone 17/18+ can read this (16 is fine, too, I think, depending on what the reader is comfortable with. My M rated fics often include dark/sexual themes, though, so 17/18 is the more comfortable range)
E (Explicit): Only people who are 18+ should read this (probably not gonna rate anything this since I don’t write smut unless I just really don’t want to endorse any minors reading it)
Again, this should probably be updated as I have written smut, however infrequent. I try to tag for common triggers, and I have asked here that minors under a certain age not read particular fics. All of my fics that depict unhealthy relationships, darker or sexual themes, or anything that I would be uncomfortable with a minor reading are rated Mature or Explicit, depending.
So all in all, I have tried my best to provide a positive experience to anyone who enjoys my content, and I try to tag so that potentially harmful content doesn’t reach those that it might hurt. I’m not perfect, and I can’t control everything. A minor can still go in and read my Explicit/Mature fics on ao3, no matter how much or how loudly I ask them not to. My content is meant to inspire, to show that life can suck, but in the end, everyone is worth it and continue on.
And, on that caveat, I’d like to point out that I generally take a stance of “create and let create.” Freedom of expression is the greatest gift anyone can be given. Yes, avoid content that hurts you, but please don’t lash out at those who create it. Until you know exactly why they’ve created it, what their history is, and what thoughts or feelings they were working through while creating it, please leave them be. Creators should tag their works so people can avoid content that might be harmful to them, but content that is harmful to one person might be another person’s lifeline.
But the reason I’ve laid this all out is that I want you to judge for yourself. Do I seem like someone you want to be friends with? Do I seem like someone harmful? Do I seem like someone you are indifferent to? Please make the decision that is best for you, and if you happen to want to be friends, please let me know ^^
Now, finally, I hope to see a more positive fandom experience come of this. I say all this, however negative or bleak it might be for me, because it was important for me to work through my thoughts, and I hope that something positive can come of honesty and communication.
Please don’t go after the original poster of the list, if you know who they are. It’s better just to let it go. The person seemed to have had good intentions, however ill-executed they were, and talking to them is only going to create more ill will and negativity for everyone. I believe, at least in part, the reason their list is so unfounded and baseless is because the content they cited genuinely hurts them, and when creating the list, they did not look at the full context of everything they were citing. And, well, context is everything, really. This doesn’t really excuse them, as they still hurt people with a largely unhelpful and thoughtless post, but brewing the negative feelings helps no one. I would also like to state that the fact that the content hurts them is not the fault of any of the creators. If you tag appropriately, but someone doesn’t take the time to blacklist or otherwise protect themself from content they know will hurt them, then that’s on them.
Fandom is a really interesting place. It’s full of so many diverse and wonderful people--minors and adults, lgbtqa+ and allies, tons of different nationalities--we should really take more steps to look out for one another. If there’s anything I could be doing better, please let me know. My experience with the mdzs fandom hasn’t been great up to this point, and I want to change that. I love this show, and I also want to love the people who love it alongside me.
Remember, for every not so great person, there are twenty more lovely people just waiting to meet you. And I hope that, from here on, those lovely people get every good thing they deserve.
#discourse#csa mention#abuse mention#rape mention#suicide mention#really if you have any super common triggers please don't read this#not tagging the fandom#and it probably wont show up in the tags because looong#but yeah here is my only participation in discourse#id prefer no reblogs#but feel free to reply#or message me

ROLEPLAYING HABITS:
1. what’s a grammar rule you find yourself breaking or ignoring a lot?
I break like… all of them. It’s shameful but grammar has never really been my thing. Writing is so fluent and you don’t have to bend yourself after rules that tend to constantly change depending on whatever author made something popular for a while – as long as you make sense whilst writing!
2. are there any languages besides english in which you think you could comfortably roleplay?
Well, I am Swedish so obviously I’d also be comfortable writing in my native tongue – to some degree. I find Swedish to be ugly as heck and try and avoid it if possible.
3. how often do you reach for a synonym dictionary when writing? how about mentally?
I definitely do it more mentally then I do looking things up on my computer, it probably wouldn’t help much either way because I only tend to go with synonyms whenever I can’t find the words I want and once my brain poops it poops! I’d rather get my reply done than stall trying to find a fancier word to match.
4. how often do you need to translate your own or the other’s writing with a dictionary or google when writing and reading replies?
Not as much as I used to, that’s for sure. I had this weird phase a few years back when I’d write the reply up in Swedish first and then translate it to English using google translate instead of trusting my own skills. It helped me understand/learn some new words, but you know! These days it happens rarely, maybe a few times a month but it’s mostly me checking to see whether I’ve used the correct spelling etc.
5. do you listen to music while you write?
No, it’s another thing I’ve stopped doing. I keep telling myself I should open up my playlist whilst working on stuff but it never happens.
6. do you have ideal writing circumstances when you can do a lot of drafts or tackle really long ones very easily?
Ohh, I guess I have to be focused to fully get through more than one reply at a time. No youtube to keep me busy, no messages to interrupt my thinking – just me and me drafts. I also need to have slept well/not been to work in a while.
7. are you a morning, day, evening, or night writer?
Evening or day! I used to be a night writer, but I’m training myself to turn off technology around midnight and I tend to get kind of sleepy around said time so… Morning is a lmaooo, I’m not awake until lunch.
8. how does tiredness affect your writing?
It leaves me lackluster, zero imagination and with no patience. I tend to not write at all if I’m tired, unless the thread is really good and the person I’m up against isn’t around too often. Count them spelling errors tho.
9. have you ever written a serious reply intoxicated?
I don’t drink.
10. how much do you proof-read as you are writing vs. proof-read at the end?
Depends on how long the reply is! If it’s more than three paragraphs I tend to give myself a quick break and move back to the start to correct errors and sentences that sound off. Then I tend to give it another quick read before I send it, making sure I feel somewhat fine with the outcome. I’m way too into editing and rewriting, it’s rare I post a reply without proof-reading.
11. when you are writing a reply, how much ahead in the thread do you plan?
Depends on the thread! Sometimes I like to dwell on connections and such before bed, but they’re also supposed to be written between two people and I can’t assume what my partner will reply with -- ya know? I do, however, tend to plan my replies whenever I got time to spare. Saves me time whenever I do wanna do them drafts.
12. is there ever been a time when you’ve had to drop a roleplaying partner because you’ve found their writing style exhausting?
Here on my 1x1 I can’t say it’s ever happened, I’ve mostly just drifted away from those I don’t click with. In rp groups though it’s happened plenty of times, because either they give shallow/short answers which forces me to do all the work whilst replying or they just don’t seem very into our threads and it just brings it down to a low.
13. does writing roleplay things in public spaces make you uncomfortable?
Nope! I’ve written replies in school and at the library countless of times, it’s kind of peaceful and often give me a time limit to work with so I’m more effective heh.
14. what do you do after you see a person has replied? do you read it immediately, or do you wait for it to show up on the dash? do you like it, draft it immediately, etc?
I mean, if someone’s replied it should show up on the dash, right?? Or have I missed something?? I’m so confused. But if I can read it I definitely will, yes! As said, I work up my replies inside my head before I type them down and I tend to draft them as soon as I can.
15. how often do you need to change the icon in your reply while or after writing the reply?
I don’t use icons but uhh I add my gifs and such after I’m done writing, and sometimes it works right off the bat and other times I’ll have to click through a few of them.
16. do you first get in the “zone” when writing, or do you start writing and “enter” it that way?
I think I enter it? Never really thought about it. I tend to open up a reply and the “zone” takes over I’ll get a lot more done I guess.
17. what is your biggest obstacle to writing every day, if time doesn’t count?
I could never write every day, that’s just impossible for me these days. Usually my energy levels are low, I lack motivation or I don’t have threads that truly speak to me at the moment. It’s a bit of this and that.
18. what’s your inbox count currently? what did you do to get it so high/low?
Nothing! People don’t really have a reason to reach out that way??
19. how many drafts is a paralysing amount?
Maybe about 20? Especially if it’s longer replies. I tend to keep my drafts below the 20 mark because of this.
20. if you are writing a wrong reply that’s not working out, do you save what you have to be continued at another date, or do you scrap it and rewrite?
If I do, it’s probably my mood that’s wrong for said reply. I tend to draft it with whatever I’ve got and then I’ll revisit it some other time once my head is a lot more clear and willing to cooperate. It’s rare I delete everything and start over.
21. does making icons give or take away energy to write? what about other graphics?
I don’t use icons or graphics, I’d rather be without either!
22. longest reply you’ve ever written on mobile?
Nope. Nah. No.
23. does the total amount of threads you have going on matter to you, or just how many you owe?
Only the amount I owe! What I can’t see can’t hurt me omg.
24. what’s your thought process when you format? any unspoken rules you follow?
Formatting is for weak ppl. Stop that.
25. how does your follower count affect your mood?
Not at all? People follow if they want to follow, I didn’t make this blog with getting followers in mind. I’m just here to rp and have fun. It’s nice to see that follower count rise though, you’re all more than welcome to the party!
#its cute of u to assume ppl send me stuff like this omg#so imma just do them all in one#but thank you love <33#also me

What would prevent you from following someone?
I usually like to see some actual roleplay replies ( unless the blog has been offline for a little while or hiatus ) and I like to see neat posts. Not edited but I don’t like posts that get reblogged endlessly without cutting then down in size. I also am not a fan of asks that then get reblogged instead of starting them in a new post. Small things like that would possibly prevent me from following. I don’t care if you have wonderful graphics or look all fancy cool with editing — as long as you write and enjoy it. I just get slight ocd with the dash being clogged so yeah, that is mostly all that would prevent me. I do also have a slight fear of rejection so if I’m admiring a blog too much I might be hesitant about following in case they don’t follow back and I feel all insecure about it. Not something that happens too much.
Are aesthetics important to you? If they are, why?
I’ll be honest (duh Ali, that’s the point of this meme!) but I have never really grasped the concept of aesthetics. I understand them but I never really post them or reblog the memes where I have think up some for a muse. That being said, I do love seeing people post them an occasionally I do reblog ones that are already set up for my muse. Are they important? Not really.
What current rp trend do you hate?
I don’t really know many trends in the rp community. I’m not down with the kids enough to know any …. hmm I guess I’m not a fan of icons getting so small you can’t see who is in them. Also when the psd is very pretty but again, doesn’t make it very clear what the icon is. I don’t know if that is even a trend.
How do you explain rp to someone in the real world?
I don’t. There are very few people in my real life who know that I do any writing online. I usually just say I write fan fiction. I did tell one new colleague about it and that led to her wanting to see my blog so she could read things … which she was very supportive of. She actually loved the threads I have. But yeah, my roleplaying life is mostly a secret thing that I find easier not to explain.
Do you prefer interacting with male muses or female more? Why?
I honestly don’t have a preference. I love writing with all muses, no matter the gender. As long as we have a connection to work on, I’m happy to explore it. Not only do I ship my muses (pretty much all the time) with both genders, I also don’t just concentrate on shippy things so writing with either gender is important. It helps build well rounded relationships that only strengthen your own character development.
Do you prefer writing male muses or female more? Why?
I pretty much only ever write female muses. I’d love to dabble with a male muse but I am very anxious of it. I was roleplaying many years ago and I did write a few males back then but got severely bullied over it. I was basically told that I could never really write a male when I’m a female, I was called sick and messed up … but this was a very long time ago, back in the days of myspace! Sometimes I want to grab a male muse just to see if it is any easier to find partners …. I know there can be a pull for many to write with males muses more than females. It’s sad but true and sometimes I think I should pick a male muse to test that out but … I never do it. Maybe I will one day.
What’s your opinion on call out posts?
I think they can be more harmful than good. I do understand when someone is literally being toxic or cruel, that there needs to be moments of warning but almost all call outs that I have seen are just petty issues that could be dealt with in private. I think we need to stop this trend — ahhh a trend? but yeah, I think call outs are not great and should really be put to rest. Just like I think witch hunts when a call out happens need to be stopped. At the end of the day, we are all pretty much here to write muses we love. Why does that need to lead to any call outs or bullying?
Name any three things about the rpc that bother you.
The elitists — now, I know a lot of people come across that way but they aren’t really elitist. I am talking about the few who KNOW they are the only person who should write a muse and project their own headcanons as being CANON even if that can lead others (who write the muse) to feel a little uneasy / anxious. I love headcanons and I love everyones take on a muse but nobody here has any more claim to a muse than anyone else. Anon hate culture — oh how I hate this! I’m old and I always tell myself that anons matter very little but sometimes it is too easy to let them get to you. We are all human at the end of the day so it isn’t always easy to switch off to them. I will never understand why people do it. Lastly, the fickle — idk if that’s the right way to word that. I basically don’t like the blogs that come along and are all over you for a quick minute before they move on the moment they have enough of a following. It makes me feel like a stepping stone and it has happened so much to me … which does make me question if it is me but then I don’t know what I have done to make it happen.
What is your opinion on exclusivity? Do you practice it? Why / why not?
I don’t have much of an opinion of this. I think in the right situation it is nice to have an exclusive partner you can write things with. I do know it doesn’t always work out when it is a big fandom but I understand why people do it. I have never really had the chance to try it so that is the only reason I don’t.
Have you ever had a bad experience with commissions? As either someone who makes them or as someone who buys them?
Yes, I paid someone up front for a commission as they were struggling with things financially and then they never actually completed my commissions. I didn’t do anything or call out …as I don’t like that, I just passed it off as being a mistake I’d learn from.
What do you know now about rp that you wish you knew when you first started?
That is better to find like minded writers rather than trying to get in with the more popular blogs (the ones that seem to have all the love and threads) I have made some wonderful friends here with some of the most exceptional writers ( this Leta being one of them), I just know that some blogs are here to be popular and they hoard partners ....and being a number is not great. Write how you want, with anyone you want to and enjoy being here. Popularity is not important.
Have you been involved in drama? Do you regret it?
I have had drama in the past, sure. When you have been roleplaying as long as I have, you are expected to run into drama. I do regret being a part of any drama but it was unavoidable. I do try to stay clear of it as much as I can now … though I will always check in with someone who is suffering. I hate to see someone going through something alone.
Have you ever thought about leaving rp? What caused it? What changed your mind?
That’s a funny one considering I started to delete my blogs just yesterday. It was some of that lovely anon hate … which I know is very silly to get upset over, especially to delete over. I was in a bad place for IRL reasons and the anons didn’t help matters. Talking to people who actually care was the only reason why my Queenie is still here today. I realized that letting an anon bully me away from a thing I love is just unhealthy — especially when you can switch the anon off and be very happy here. On that note, I’d like to thank all who talked to me yesterday. It was so heart warming to have people show me compassion and understanding.

[Fan Account] Da-iCE’s NEXT PHASE Live in Saitama!
Da-iCE hasn’t listed a tour date for Tokyo yet (which makes me think another performance might be added to the end of the tour, but of course this is just me guessing), so for my very first Da-iCE tour performance, I made the trip to nearby Saitama to see them perform during their second day of the tour at Misato Cultural Center. It was about an hour and a half from my apartment, but as I’ve mentioned before, Japanese performances don’t require you to line up early-- if it’s a seated venue, like this one was, you’ll have the same seat no matter how early you get there, and standing venues still have entrance order numbers written on the ticket.
Once inside, there were several vendors. One to encourage people to sign up for the fan club, one selling Da-iCE albums, one passing along info for signing up for a credit card with Da-iCE's image on it, and lastly the standard merch table. I'd already purchased the light stick, but this time I also grabbed a tote bag since my normal purse isn't big enough to carry around the giant novels I'm always reading >_<
For this tour, I finally broke my bad streak of lotto numbers and snagged a seat in the third row. Each row was divided into left stage, middle stage, and right stage. I was the leftmost seat in the left stage area, and based on the dance formations, we got a lot of visits from Yudai and Taiki in particular throughout the night.
Before the show, the staff asked us to take out our light sticks, and we were all surprised to find out that they have a special function! When they're in range of the current concert venue, they can be controlled to change colors from their standard purplish-blue shade. Throughout the night, they were frequently moved from red to green to yellow to aqua blue and so on. The staff did a really good job of matching them to the tone of the songs and stage lights.
After demonstrating the light sticks' magic power, there was a short, futuristic intro video, and then the boys stepped out of this cool, dice shaped construction made out of the video screens and the show began!
Breaking down the night by song:
NEXT PHASE: When the album came out, Da-iCE claimed this would be their new show opener to replace FIGHT BACK, and it really fills the role well! The boys were wearing different costumes than their Tonikaku HEY gear, but their looks had a similar theme-- bright colors paired with retro style jackets. They all looked amazing (Sota’s back to 100% red hair!) and kicked off the show with some very strong dancing.
Watch Out: Even though this song came out last year, it's really grown as one of my favorites, so I was psyched that this was their follow up. Once again, it was a great pick to bring up the energy, and the vocals were as on point as ever. I love the bouncy parts of the dance during the “Won’t you try it?” section of the chorus.
Step Back: This was our first use of prop/special stage design of the night, and let's just say CHAINS WERE INVOLVED. I'm not joking. The set design featured prison-esque bars and the boys danced with prop chains binding their wrists. And yes, it was as good as it sounds. This was my first time seeing this song live, and I have to say that the dance was stellar!
Noise: After Step Back, the boys had a short introductory MC (trolling Sota ensues) where they also asked everyone how many "Phase" concerts they've been to ever since Phase 0 kicked off. They transitioned into Noise, one of my fave songs from Fight Back, using headphone props. Every time one of the boys put on the headphones, a certain kind of music would play and they would dance to it. For example, when Taiki put his on, it was a really upbeat techno track, so he did an almost seizure-like dance to it, then close with one of his trademark funny faces when he pulled the headphones off. When it was Yudai's turn, the intro to Noise started, and the boys began the performance with the headphones on. Every time they pulled them off, the music would change to tinny and muted, in the radio-esque style the original song evokes. It was really well done! But as Yudai mentioned on Twitter yesterday, he did make a few mistakes in his timing of pulling of the headphones, but I wish he wouldn't worry too much since it was a really complex performance and overall they did a good job with it!
Free Falling: This was our second set design on the night. A table with several chairs and a round of shot glasses (and I think some Jack Daniels as well?) were brought out, and the boys delivered this more rock-based number with a smoky bar room theme. They made good use of the chairs and table in the dance routine as well, and the performance came across like a cool, movie-like moment.
Chocolate Sympathy: Since the chairs were out, it was time for Da-iCE's famous chair dance routine paired with one of their sexiest songs. Chocolate Sympathy should be illegal, that song paired with that dance is too much all at once T^T. As I was watching, I kept on thinking how badly I want a CS instrumental because that beat is jamming, and in a sense I got my wish, because after the performance was over, it was time for performance solos from the dance line to the tune of the CS instrumental (remixed slightly, naturally). They played a quick game of Musical Chairs to determine who would go first. Hayate lost (after Toru took his chair, causing Hayate to dramatically fall over), so he led off. His dancing, unsurprisingly, WAS DOPE. Following his solo, he dashed offstage, and it was Taiki's turn. After, Taiki and Toru did a bit of a duo dance together, then Toru wrapped up, and both he and Taiki left the stage.
Koigokoro: Immediately Koigokoro kicked off with a costume change, since Yudai and Sota had been backstage during the dance solos. They were now wearing dark pants paired with a white dress shirt with a simple design in black down the front paired with a black bow tie. VERY sharp. The two vocals started off, and since Hayate had also had enough time to change costumes, he led off the dancing solo. Taiki and then Toru appeared later in the song. This is by far one of my fave Da-iCE songs and one of my faves to watch live. The vocal line absolutely kills it, and the dance is beautiful and emotional. One of my faves of the night.
Reason: Since we were in slow song mode, they transitioned into Reason, paired with a background video of the boys walking through the streets of Japan. This is one of the most beautiful songs off the new album but I keep forgetting that, so this was a good reminder to have it on rotation more often.
Sugar High: While the Reason videos were playing, the staff had set up coat racks with blue velvet suit jackets behind the screens. When I saw them, I thought next up would be Kirenai Mama no Coat, but it was actually our new OT5 track from Tonikaku HEY, Sugar High! Dressed in their daper jackets, all five members participated in the harmonies in the track, and they did a FANTASTIC job. I really do hope Da-iCE continues this trend in the future. Taiki is already at a great level of vocal ability, and Toru and Hayate’s confidence in their abilities seems to have skyrocketed.
Setsunakute (acoustic): And continue the trend they did! As a B-side to a pre-debut single, this song doesn't get much play at concerts, but Da-iCE brought it back with all 5 members on vocals! Not only did the dance line sing, but they actually sang the majority of the song! I'm praying Da-iCE will release this in some form, because it was glorious. Taiki did the first chorus on Toru did the second, and both of them delivered beautiful.
Yudai darted off stage following this performance, leaving the other four members to handle the MC while he changed costumes. The members speculated what Yudai would talk about for a solo MC and decided on 'protein'. Sure enough, when Yudai emerged in the new costume (black, white, and red-- Da-iCE's colors!), he chose to talk about protein while the other members changed. Unfortunately, I have a very limited knowledge of protein vocab, so I didn't quite follow >_<
[at this point, I can't remember for sure which of the next two songs was performed first, but I'm making an educated guess here lol]
Into You: All the boys were now in their Da-iCE colors after the costume change. They looked great, but Taiki's black piece, a button down, had the misfortune of sporting Guy Fieri-like flames... Taiki, I thought you were the fashionista!
I wasn't expecting Into You to be performed, so I was pleasantly surprised when it was! This is Da-iCE’s killer cover, and they SLAYED it live. And the Hayate jump kick move from the music video was there as well. And Sota's iconic "A little dangerous my boy" :D
I'll be back: Since we got Setsunakute, we also got I'll be back! This will also slightly edited, so instead of the Sota rap(ish?) bits on the second verse, we got a dance break. I'm personally a huge fan of Da-iCE dance breaks, so even though the performance was a little shorter than the original track, it was an amazing watch.
Fantasy: Another track I've never seen performed before, and another track improved by adding a dance break to the live performance. It makes me wish the dance break instrumental was part of the original track, I think it really enhanced it!
Five: Our first pre-debut mini album classic! This is one of my personal favorites from the pre-debut era because I love how the lyrics represent their bond as five members. I'm hoping for them to turn this into an OT5 vocal song one day, but as for now, I was thrilled to see this live finally! Also, our section finally got a much needed dose of Hayate fan service when he visited left stage.
Tonikaku HEY: Before performing their latest single, Da-iCE did a mini competition to see who could get the loudest audience "HEY"... of course, it was Sota vs. the rest of the members :D All a-i are winners, so the boys didn't choose favorites in the end. This song is kind of like the new "Hush Hush" where the audience participates in the dance since the moves during the chorus are simple hand movements the audience can follow. It's such a fun live track and you can tell the group really loves performing it.
BOND: This is a pretty light hearted song, so the boys were mainly paling around during the performance. For the set design, three sets of big white steps (the symbol for NEXT PHASE) on wheels were brought out, and the members played around on the steps and wheeled each other around. As the audience, we were in charge of the "pa-pa-party party" vocals
Stand: Another pre-debut mini-classic! The boys had stashed autographed balls under their stairs, so spent a portion of this track pitching them to the audience. None came close to me, but a girl at the other end of my row caught TWO. Guess my luck could have been a little better, even though I got third row.
Kimiiro: After all their fun with the last song, the boys calmed down and directed our attention to the screens, which flashed the release date for the new single. They than had a full performance of the new single, which I LOVE. It's not quite in the same vein as their previous summer singles, though it is uptempo. If anything, I think its vibe is half way between those songs and Sora, which is a really good sound for them. Can't wait for the release!
TWO AS ONE: I saw this performed live at Tokyo Swish and their vocals and choreo combination was really moving moment at the time, so it was beautiful to see it again. I love the MV, but I really wish more of the choreo was featured so you all could see it. I really think the story it tells is beautiful, especially since it's a thank you song to the fans.
ENCORE TIME!
Everybody: We heard the opening words of Everybody, but Da-iCE was nowhere to be found onstage...we whirled around...and there they were, in the audience! The five members walked around the aisles and shook hands with fans as they passed, much to everyone's delight! A lot of areas were reached by all five members, but the staff kept blocking the group from coming to my area because it was a tight squeeze between the edge of the rows and the side stage. Toru didn't care and broke through anyways. I made good use of having two hands and got a double handshake from Toru as he passed. YES!
Osaka Lover: I love this cover from the new single and think it's perfect for summer, so I'm glad they included it in their encore line up. The dance was great, so I'm extra psyched that we're getting an MV for this on the upcoming single!
Paradive: Da-iCE's most famous single closed out the night in upbeat, towel waving style. It's such a fun song, and Hayate's dance part during the instrumental has become so beloved that the members shout out "HAYATE" before he starts it. It's a great way to close on a happy and exciting note!
The two girls sitting next to me had talked to me before the encore and found out my favorite member was Sota. I'm not sure what I did to deserve such generosity, but one girl gave me a Sota NEXT PHASE wristband, and the other gave me Sota postcards. I was really so touched! At every Da-iCE I've been to, people have come up to me and asked me about how I got into the group, which is really so amazing for me! I feel a little awkward sometimes being a foreigner who stands out a lot since I'm the kind of person who prefers people (members of Da-iCE excepted) not to focus on me, but everyone has really shown me kindness and helped me to become more comfortable. My first Da-iCE tour performance was a total blast!!!

Cropping & Editing Icons in GIMP
Hello everyone!
This is Bubbles-mod here with your second tutorial! Like Jerry-mod, I’ll also be going from start to finish on how I crop and edit icons on the wonderful program known as GIMP. GIMP is a lovely alternative for anyone that’s seeking Photoshop and cannot afford it because -- guess what? It’s free! It’s also able to run on Windows, Mac OS, and Linux which makes it very versatile. Whether you’re an old timer with GIMP like myself, or a newbie, I’ll guide you through the many steps on how to complete this. And if you don’t have GIMP and wish to learn with this tutorial you can grab it from here!
That being said there is a few things you might need while working with this tutorial.
Important things to have
Of course having a method of downloading your video is a must. So there’s many sources you can get videos from, youtubemp4s converters and also Kissanime/Kisscartoon (the latter once they get the site back up and running).
Next you’ll need your trusty GIMP program.
Then we’ll need my favorite plugin: BIMP -- the Batch Image Manipulation Plugin which you can also get from here. Now if you’re not familiar installing Plugins, I recommend following the instructions they have there as this won’t be the main focus of my tutorial.
Finally, you’ll want a frame ripper. The one I tend to use DVDVideoSoft’s Video to JPG
One other script that can be added is the ExportAll script. This just allows you save all the images you have opened at one time to a location. This comes in handy if you don’t want to save images one by one later on while cropping. It is not necessary needed. Remember to add it to GIMP like you would any other script/plugin.
Now, this is going to get a bit image heavy so I’m going to be putting everything under a cut from this point on. Good luck and happy iconing everyone!
Step 1: Making your Frames
So upon opening DVDVideoSoft’s convertor, you’ll receive a screen very similar to this:
Most of the buttons are pretty self explanatory with adding your video file and the output location. The one thing I want you to pay attention to is that the setting I have at the far left for frames. I always go with every 10 frames no matter what project I’m working on. It does offer other options, but this gives me the most frames to work with -- minus the option for every second but that’s a bit too much. Once you have everything in order, go ahead and click that convert button and let it do its thing!
I will forewarn, depending on how long the video is and how fast your computer is, the time can vary. If you don’t believe your video is powerful enough then play around with some of the setting until you find one that works for you!
Step 2: Pick your Frames
There isn’t much to add for this section here. Like Jerry-mod mentioned, I too can agree this the worst part. You’ll have to scroll through the frames you have to select the ones you wish to keep for iconing. I recommend either deleting the frames you don’t want as you go OR set up a folder to stash the frames you wish to keep and then delete the folder containing the miscellaneous once you’re done. I tend to flip back and forth, usually going with the latter if I plan on cropping more than one character from a video.
So let’s move onto the next step once you’re finished!
Step 3: Loading & Cropping
Okie dokie! Now that we’ve selected all the screencaps we wish to use, let’s go ahead and open up GIMP. Once it’s open, make sure that you have it in Single Window mode. You can check this by going to Windows and clicking Single Window -- or if it has a check by it then you’re good! Next, let’s go back to the folder that contains all the lovely caps you’re going to be using today.
Since I’m using a windows computer, I’m afraid I only know this command, but what we’re going to do is select the very first image in your folder. Once that’s done, press the Shift key on your keyboard. Then, if you have arrow keys, move down until you’ve selected 25 images. If you don’t have arrow keys, your mouse can suffice. You’re more than welcome to do more or less than 25 images, but I like working with this multiple.
Now that they’ve all be selected, we’re going to drag them over to our GIMP window where GIMP will now help us out and load all 25 images into separate tabs.
Pretty handy eh?
Now it’s time to set up a few things before we start cropping. If you’re unfamiliar with the GIMP tools it’s this guy:
And these are the settings we’ll wish to make for it in the dialog box:
That way while cropping, your images will keep to the size of a square. You can navigate to the different images just by clicking them and the arrows on the left and right side so you can pan through more tabs if your screen resolution isn’t big enough to have them all on one line. Once that’s completed, it’s time to save these bad boys.
Step 4: Saving the images
If you didn’t bother saving my ExportAll script, then you can save/export these images as you normally would in GIMP under the File > Overwrite [filename]. However, if you did use my script, then I’ll show you how to use it real quick. Like you would with saving a regular image, you’d click File but now you’ll go to a new option I’ve given you called Save All:
Selecting it will give us a new dialog box that we’ll have to work with. In it you’ll select the folder that your screencaps are located and you can leave the rest of the information alone.
Now go ahead and click okay and let the script run so we can move onto your next set. Just don’t forget to close all these lovely images as you move through each set. Close All can also be found under File as well. Once you’ve completed all of your cropping it’s time to move onto the next phase.
Step 5: Make the Border
I know what you’re thinking. Bubbles-mod, why would I make my border now when my images are still so gigantic? Don’t worry there silly, we’ll worry about that in a few. The reason I like to create a border if I want to use them on an icon is because batching allows us to color them, resize, reshape and add a border all at the same time! It’s pretty snazzy. But if you already have a border in mind, then go ahead and skip this step.
So before we move onto that, likes go ahead and make an image the size that you’re going to make your icons. For simplicity, I’m going to make a canvas of 100 x 100. You can do this from File > New
Now if we’re sticking to square icons then this will be a piece of cake! Let’s go ahead and select the color we want our border to be. As you can see from above I’m going with a dashing fluorescent purple to meet Lady Wifi’s needs. Next, we’re just going to fill the box with the paint bucket tool. Then, select the Square Select tool from your tool box. It sort of looks like a rectangle:
Fix up it’s settings like we did before with cropping so it can have an aspect ratio before we start our selection on the square. Now how much you select is up to you. Keep in mind, we will be deleting the content of the square we’re selecting so if you want a really big border then make it a smaller selection. Otherwise, making a very huge selection if you want a thin one. Once it’s done hit the delete key.
Now you’re probably wondering if this happens so to you, what to do about this white background? Not to worry! Just go and right click on your background layer so we can add an Alpha Channel:
And then we’ll happily hit the delete key again and now we have our square border!
Now if you’re going for a circle icon border, the steps are pretty much similar. Just instead of the Square/Rectangle select tool, you’re going to want to use the circle one:
Like before fill in your canvas, select the tool, change the aspect ratio and create your circle size. Now with Circle, you’re going to want to do something instead of deleting your selection. I want you to copy it. You can do this with Ctrll+C and then make a new layer with Shift+Ctrl+N or selecting Layers > New from the top bar. Now paste that circle you copied into the new layer.
At first you may not see anything different, but that’s because we have to delete our bottom layer. So we’ll need to right click and select Delete Layer:
Now you should see the circle you were looking for! Now we’re back to our old steps with the rectangle, we just need to select the Circle tool again to make the selection of the Circle that we’ll be deleting this time. Like before this is also your call for the size border that you want.
Once you’re done remember to save the border so we can move onto our next phase: Batching!
Step 6: Batch to Resize Images
Now we’re at one of my favorite parts in the entire tutorial. Batching!! Now I hope you already downloaded the Batch Pluggin before starting and set it up, otherwise you’ll have to close GIMP out first so it can reload with it properly added. Great! So we’re going to open up the Batch by selecting it from the File Menu and you should see its entire name:
Go ahead and selection and you’ll get Batch Manipulation to open!
Since we finally have it open, let’s do the easy stuff like add in the images we’re going to use and also select their output folder. I suggest making a new folder so you don’t accidentally overwrite your old ones. Once you’ve completed that I want you to click on the giant plus sign with add below it.
These options will allow you to complete different services for your icons! Most of them are pretty self explanatory but the one I want you to focus on first is change format. I love my icons always in the .png file so if you like that as well, go ahead and select it so that will be the first task it will complete. After you’ve made the option, you will notice the BIMP is allowing you to add another option. This is when we’ll do our resizing by clicking Resize.
In Resizing, I always select the radio button for “Set Exact size in pixel” so we can set the complete size of our image. The width and height boxes is where you can finally select to make our icons go to the size of 100 x 100.
Go ahead and click okay so we can add our next step.
********** (only for circle icons): **********
Now if you want to make circle icons, we have to resize all of our icons to this perfect shape. BIMP can allow us to do that as well. So when clicking the plus/add button, select “Other GIMP Procedure”. A search box will appear along with many other options that GIMP can complete. In the search box the term we’re going to look for is “round” and you’ll see a few return results. The one we wish to go with is the “script-fu-round-corners” so click it.
On the right side you’ll see a few other options appear on the right side of the box like above. The only thing we’re worried about here for now is the Edge Radius. Change the value to 50 so you can get a complete circle. I’ll leave it to you to play around with this later to find out what other values and the drop-shadow can do. After changing the 0.0 to 50.0 let’s click OK so we can move onto our next step: our border.
********** (end of only for circle icons): **********
In the add options, you want to select “Add a Watermark”. This allows you to make watermarks in a text or image, we want to go with the image option. From the dropdown, navigate to your border image and open it. You don’t have to mess with any of the other settings of the box there so yours should look like this:
You’re free to hit OK from here. The final step is renaming the images. That’s because DVDVideoSoft gives files really long names. If you have no problem with this, you can skip this last add on. Otherwise, hit the plus add again and pick “Rename with a pattern”. It has a few options to pick from but for simplicity, go with the option to rename them increasing numbers or the ## as they suggest:
Now you can hit okay once again so it can return you to the BIMP main console. We’ve finished making all of our selections so the final step is to hit Apply to allow it to run. Depending on how many files it is the time length can vary but once everything is complete you’ll get the solid green bar, notifying you the process has finished and whether or not any errors occurred. If you’ve finished with zero errors, you’re in business! Go ahead and close out BIMP and GIMP and navigate to your output folder to see your final results:

SUV Royalty - Is bigger better? Part 1
By Michael Hozjan
Rather than the same old road test, I decided to look at the most popular large suvs on the market today in a work environment, and I wanted to take them off-road. I also didn’t want your typical off-road test on a dirt road out in the country. I do that everyday on the way home with rear wheel drive sports cars so where’s the challenge in that.
January to March is typically tree-culling time. The time farmers head out into their fields with tractors and trailers in tow to cut down firewood. With dozens of trees having succumbed to disease last year and with no tractor in the barn, well you know where I’m headed.
The off-road portion would be conducted on my farm’s fields with anywhere from five to twelve inches of soft and packed snow covering the alfalfa sprouts underneath. Where trailer hitches were provided I’d hook up old faithful and load her up with logs, where they weren’t, the trunk was loaded with various chain saws and other gear.
Unfortunately Mother Nature had other plans. Weather was all over the ballpark, going from high winds and temps of thirty below which kept everyone in front of fireplaces instead of in the woods to rain soaked days that would have me tearing up the alfalfa.
Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sahara
Regular readers know my opinion on the oldest and certainly the most capable SUV tested here. The Jeep’s comfort level and drive ability has increased with each successive upgrade. Likewise, over the years Jeep has attempted to make the most recognized vehicle in the world more fuel efficient by going so far as raking the windshield back and adding bubbles on the headlights, all without compromising its off-road capabilities.
The Wrangler has one thing going for it that no other vehicle in the world offers – at least not on our shores – and that’s an unlimited choice of configurations. A fourth trim level has been added to the three traditional lines. Resurrecting the old Willys name, the Willys Wheeler is pegged between the entry-level Sport and the Sahara, with the Rubicon still taking top-of-the-line honors. Add the Unlimited iterations to each core models and you have eight trim levels. If that wasn’t enough the base two-door Sport also comes in S configuration with 17” wheels and sat radio. The number of door is just the beginning, than there are soft or hard top choices, full metal doors or half metal doors, or you can just remove the doors completely. Then there’s your choice of transmission and 4 x 4 system options…well you get the idea. To say there’s a Jeep for every budget and lifestyle is not an exaggeration. You can go climbing mountains in the morning and then wash it and step out to the opera at night and never feel out of place.
For 2017 the iconic warhorse thankfully remains devoid of most electronic gizmos. Leaving the pooh-pooh options to the wanna-bes. Sadly the two door model who’s price starts at just a shade over $28 grand got pulled off before I had a chance to get my hands on it so it came down to old faithful, the four door that I have grown to know and respect. New this year, are optional LED head and fog lights. There’s also a Cold Weather Package that features a remote start, heated seats and all-weather floor mats.
The Sahara starts at…. ahem $40,245.00. Add leather-faced seats with accent stitching ($1375) TPMS and Bluetooth ($525), LED lighting ($495) Tow package with 3.73 gearing –which should improve gas milage over the stock 4:11 unit ($575). Oddly the hardtop liner at $495 is not included when you opt for the hardtop roof at $900. Other options included supplemental front air bags at $400, the 5-speed automatic with hill descent control ($1495), anti-slip rear diff ($525) The Alpine sound system is $695 while 6.5 inch touch screen, CD, HDD and NAV unit came in at $1225. The remote start unit was $395. All told along with levies, taxes and destination charges it added up to $52,335.
Sadly I could not take the most capable off –roader here into the fields. Or rather would not. My week with the Wrangler coincided with the coldest weekend of the year. Yup, binge watching old movies and reruns upon reruns of car shows. Why is it that the more we pay for cable/sat TV, the worse it gets with viewing options limited to the same episodes playing dozens of times a week?
The next gen of Wrangler’s is expected for the 2018 model year which may include the long awaited pickup version and rumor has it that the 3.6L Pentastar V6 will be joined by a turbocharged inline four cylinder.
Grand Cherokee Trailhawk
At the opposite end of the comfort spectrum in Jeep’s lineup is the Grand Cherokee. Who would have thought back in the ’90s when the Grand Cherokee debuted that it would have lasted this long. The Grand Cherokee line now compromises of six models; the Laredo ($42,195), Limited ($50,495), Trailhawk ($55,495), Overland ($59,345), Summit ($64,345) and the outrageous SRT ($70,195). Not only does the Grand Cherokee retain a loyal following, it’s become the benchmark for the upper crust SUV segment with its luxurious accouterments and go anywhere capability.
That go anywhere capability just got a little boost with the Trailhawk model. To begin with, the Trailhawk’s Quadra-Lift air suspension offers improved articulation over the regular Grand Cherokee with the additional (0.4”) ground clearance attributed more to the 18-inch wheels than larger air bags.
OK the snow covered fields didn’t really test the air suspensions prowess, like crawling around boulders would have, but honestly how many of you are going to take your 50 large SUV rock crawling? The air suspension did however smooth out the ride on my gravel washboard road and hooking up my heavy steel trailer kept the truck level. The system also lowers the vehicle at highway speeds to reduce drag and gain a tad more in fuel economy.
Powertrain options on the Trailhawk include the 3.6L Pentastar V6 or the 5.7L Hemi V8 linked to a 8-speed TorqueFlite trans and Quadra-Drive II full-time 4x4 system with a two-speed transfer case and electronic rear Limited-Slip differential. The transfer case, fuel tank and front suspension are protected by skid plates. With over a foot of hard and soft packed snow on the field, the grunt of the V8 kept me out of trouble for most of the day and when it came time to get the traction aids out, I was really grateful for the added ponies. Incidentally the V8 did feature Jeep’s fuelsaver multi-displacement system which automatically transforms the 360 horsepower V8 into a fuel miser four-cylinder on the highway. The in-dash fuel monitoring system quickly went from 10.9L/100 km to 19L/100km after my field romp.
As mentioned earlier the Trailhawk successfully marries off-road capability with luxury. Front bucket seats aren’t only heated they also ventilated and Jeep has even added heating elements to the second row seat. The ‘hawk’s luxury package also includes auto headlight leveling, and bi-xenon HID headlights, but to have a cargo compartment cover listed as a luxury item…come on.
The Trailhawk’s off-road capability certainly lived up to its Jeep ancestry, but unlike the Wrangler, the Grand Cherokee brings civility and comfort not only to the trail but the open road as well.
VW Touareg – is this its swan song
It’s hard to imagine that the Touareg has been with us for 13 years. Sharing the same platform as its pricier cousins the first generation of Porsche’s Cayenne and Audi Q7, and if one looked quickly it could easily be mistaken for the Porsche. Alas, it looks like the someone in Wolfsburg has decided that the two-row Touareg is no longer competitive in the hotly contested SUV market, but rather than go with a refresh of the current model (the last major change was back in 2011), the Touareg is being replaced or should I say squeezed out by the seven passenger, US built, Atlas. Hopefully I’m wrong and VW will continue with its luxury SUV and Grand Cherokee contender.
From the outset the Touareg has offered comfort and performance unprecedented in the VW line up. Sure it wasn’t as quick as the Cayenne off the line, but than again neither was the price. And having a Touareg in the family I can attest its reliability was superior to the problem plagued Porsche – especially the first generation. Where the VW was always ahead of its competitors was ergonomics and fit and finish, a trait that continues to this day.
Offered in three trim levels starting with the $51,960 Sportline, with and the $65,460 Execline at the other end of the scale. I got behind the wheel of the Wolfsburg Edition which will cost you $60,890. But even the base Touareg is equipped with forward collision warning, blind-spot monitoring (for those who STILL have not adjusted their mirrors properly). The Wolfsburg owner gets pampered with heated steering wheel, heated rear seats, panoramic sunroof and ventilated front seats and a 620-watt digital sound system complete with 12 speakers are among the slew of added options.
From a mechanical standpoint the Wolfsburg Edition gets 20” wheels over the base 18” units and adaptive cruise control and autonomous emergency braking. VW’s press release also states that the base model comes with automatic post-collision braking system. Is it just me or shouldn’t that be pre-collision?
If you absolutely need to spend the additional 5 grand the Execline will give you a 360 degree camera, memory function on your steering wheel and engineered ebony wood trim. Oh and manual rear shades.
Only one engine/transmission package is available, a 3.6 L V-6 coupled to an 8-speed automatic with manual-shifting mode capability.
Having driven the first gen Cayenne off-road on numerous occasions I knew the Touareg’s ability was in par. But those were under dry, summery conditions. Nothing could prepare me for what was to come. With temperatures once again rising I was grateful to see snow once again falling. With just enough coverage to shield the crop from being trampled I ventured out into the fields, trailer in tow. But the weather presented a whole different challenge from the deep …of the grand Cherokee. Wet slushy snow on slippery vegetation. Again with several hundred pounds of trees loaded into the trailer the challenge was to climb the various slopes without getting stuck.
This time I have to admit the hero was uh were the Continental …tires. Yes the 280 horses helped, but without the proper grip, especially in these circumstances, all the ponies in the world wouldn’t have mattered. The VeeDub had on other thing going for it – fuel economy. I averaged an impressive – for the size of the vehicle- 10.5L/100kms. A great way to bid adieu to an old friend.
