Tell me a silly story

okok so I'm going to make this up on the spot and you do need to trust that I'm not planning this out beforehand. I got this.

There is a dog who lives on Baker street, who wears a top hat all day long. If it is raining, his top hat is wet, and if it is sunny his top hat is scalding hot. He doesn't mind either way, of course, because he loves his top hat, but something always feels missing. A dog in a top hat, sure, is cute, but he has no way to spend his day. You can only clean a hat so much, especially being mindful of the wear even cleaning may cause.

He finds, on baker street, the only profession you could expect to find. A baker. Though his paws are not nimble enough to bake, and his hat too precious to risk getting covered with flour and salts, the baker finds a job for him. He is seated, by the ovens, and watches for the top of the bread to brown just so. It is a nice job, and he feels helpful for doing it, saving the baker from burned batches, but it is boring. The ovens are hot and the store is loud, even from the kitchen where he sits, and so the dog tips his hat to the Baker and takes his leave to find new work to fill his day.

As he walks along the street, the dog spies a crew doing road work. They wave him over, and he barks a warm hello. The dog explains his journey, of his love for his hat and of his wont for a duty to fill his day. The crew sympathize. They have their work, but even after that there's time in a day to spend. One explains that they draw, in their spare time, but the dog's hat would fall off if he tried to hold a pen. Another states that they watch shows, and examine the structure underneath. The dog is intrigued, and makes a note to ask more later, but the thought of spending all day thinking hard about structure scares him, so he asks on. Finally, one member explains that they garden, behind their house where the sun will reach it in the morning. The dog is excited, this is a task he knows how to do!

The dog asks this crew member, the gardener, to show him how to spend his time as they do, and the gardener obliges, walking him to their house after the work day is done. They talk, as they do, about time and gardens and the colors of the sunrise. It is pleasant, the dog thinks, but surely not as pleasant as gardening must be.

He is shown to dig holes, not wide but quite deep, and to pack dirt in around a plant as if its soil were never disturbed. It feels good, to dig in the dirt, and to chat with the gardener, and soon all the planting is done. The dog cannot water, lest his hat fall off his head, so he takes a bow and leaves, promising to return soon.

The sun is now setting, and as the dog returns to his home, he has some time to think. He has not found an activity to do all day with his hat, and it saddens him, but he finds something else retracting his steps. All day, in fact right up to the night, the dog had been doing things! He'd helped a baker time their bread, talked to workers, planted a garden, all with his lovely hat perched right on his head. Better still, there were plans for the future! People to talk to and gardens to plant.

Activities, the dog realized, were not just one to spend all your life on. To watch an oven all day is a chore, and chatting gets boring eventually, but in pieces of sunshine and pleasure, each activity brought a spark to his day.

So, as a mist sprayed on the land, like he'd heard should be done for your plants, it was hard for the dog to feel cold sad and wet. He was warmed by the friends he had made all that day, and his face was kept dry by his hat.

I love your Iris and Dahlia concepts for your ace avian au! But I have one question. How does Phoenix not notice "Dahlia's" wing colour change? Does Iris tell him a bad excuse he accepts because he's too much of a simp to question her? Does she temporary dye her wings to match Dahlia's or do you have another idea?

i think i explained this briefly in the og post, but I'll expand on it a bit here!~~

While there are ways of getting feathers to a (close to) pure white color, it is difficult. (i.e. bleach turns them golden). The Hawthornes assumed getting the necklace back would be quick, so Iris deemed it unnecessary to go through the trouble. (oh how they were mistaken)

Instead, she paints her feathers. I imagine with a spray paint, similar to ones that exist for hair. The paint washes away in water and has a noticable texture (for the sake of this world though, it's unnoticable just via eyesight).

(Bit of worldbuilding for context:) Touching/grooming someone's wings shows a strong bond. (This can be platonic, familial, or romantic.) However, for romantic partners, it's usually considered more intimate than something like kissing. Iris ofc doesn't want Phoenix to know she's been painting her feathers. (Phoenix is a boundary respecting king) (pls pretend i drew the necklace i forgor >.<)

Phoenix trusts her completely. The guilt Iris feels over the deceipt and inability to reciprocate leads her to always wear gloves when touching his wings.

Maybe he does eventually touch her wings near the end of it all, if only by accident, even. Maybe he brings it up with her, and she makes up some excuse about "I thought you'd think less of me if you knew my natural color". (he ofc says he wouldn't care). Phoenix never gets to see her real wing color though, before everything with Doug Swallow...

(And maybe, as Dahlia is carted off to prison, Phoenix brushes her wingtip, but he doesn't feel the paint..)

17. What is something you recently felt proud of in your writing?

i recently wrote 1k words in a little over an hour which is by far the fastest i’ve ever reached 1k!!!! :) also have been getting better at not editing as i go and actually making first drafts

23. What’s a story you’d love to write but haven’t even started yet?

i NEED to write a proper fucking charliebriggs fic and no smfst does not count bc that is charliefic first and foremost. i need to write a fic that shoots me point blank execution style every time i so much as THINK of opening the doc. also mikecharlie pegging fic. and michaelabigailjoseph threesome (which i actually do have 2-3 sentences for so idk if i would say i have NOTHING but. she still deserves a mention i think)

27. Are any of your stories inspired by personal experience?

specifically talking about published fics, there are two :) run the tap ‘til it’s clear (my lived experience many times over #swag #dontquestionit) and crawl back in (literally exclusively worked on it when i was on my period bc it was just me going THIS SHIT SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!! for 1,000 words) i don’t have a mike or a briggs tho it’s just me and snoopy. and then of course i put a little bit of myself in almost every fic in various places (mike’s dermatillomania moments in eight hours, every time i’ve ever written a character with ocd, etc etc and so on and so forth<3)

And now, it's time.

Day 5: Happy 5 Year Anniversary!

Wow. 5 years. I honestly can't believe that. Oh my GOSH that's long o.o. I went :O when I saw that when seeing advertising for the week.

I love this show so much (ignore me posting and editing to get it here before midnight for me lol). It's absolutely insane how long it's been. I started watching late in November, I believe, maaaaybe early December. We'd talked about getting Disney+, and I knew my family would find it silly but I was intrigued by a show called High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. A crazy title and a weird premise. I said I was just curious, fascinated by it, wondering what it would be like. So, one evening, my sister and I watched it.

We watched the first four episodes and laughed and made fun of it the whole time. But, miraculously, I found myself invested.

And the next episode.

In Season 1 Episode 5, they brought Seb and Carlos to us as a couple. I was shocked and happy, and honestly a little confused. I didn't know I was queer yet. I knew what queer was, had found out from my sibling surrounding some family stuff, but I'd never seen canon queer characters before. I guess I knew I was an ally, even if I didn't totally get why, but it was just so cool to see them. I honestly felt kind of weird because what did two gay high school boys mean to me, I was a straight girl!

Ha.

It wouldn't be for a couple more years that I would realize I was queer. I too fell victim to the "yeah, but I'm just an ally" trap lol. But I seriously fell in love with them. I remember my sibling and I loving how cute Carlos's little dance was, how excited he was. How devastated and in denial we were when Seb didn't show up. And how much we loved it when Carlos danced, and when Seb did show up :').

That solidified the show for me. That made me stay. They made me stay. They've meant the world to me ever since.

And since then, I have seen 33 amazing, wonderful episodes (just like the 5 before them lol). I've been angry, I've been sad, I've been in awe, I've been happy. I've seen myself represented not just in queer characters, but in theatre kids. In kids who are lonely and find family there. In kids who lived in a shadow, who were shy, who were thrust in and trusted by their teacher and director.

This show is silly. It does silly things, it has silly performances, it has silly jokes, silly unlikely things happen, and it's a silly premise. But I absolutely love it. I realized one day, after having seen someone mention "the One show that changed them forever", that mine was High School Musical The Musical The Series. Sounds silly, and I had to think about some of my more recent shows to figure it out. But it is. I remember scrolling through the tag, searching Seblos, before I even made a Tumblr account. Seeing things first after the finale of Season 1, deleted scenes pictures of Carlos giving Seb flowers. So many important moments for me were taken alongside step with HSMTMTS. Even though I barely post about it anymore (because so many interests catch my attention and I don't usually have much to say about it off the top of my head), it's still the 4th top "Posts a lot about" when you go to search on my blog. I think that says something. And I'm proud of it.

I haven't had a lot of interaction with the fandom during my time here, especially while the show was still running (and because I mainly stay in the Seblos tag, especially with remembering scrolling through all the Driver's License stuff before and when it first came out lol), but everyone means so much to me. Especially everyone still posting, still creating now. The fanfics, the art, the edits, and gifsets, everything is so important to me, and everything else. Thank you all <3. And thank you, when I did come, for being such an accepting place (at least the places I went to). Thank you guys for sticking around through this show, and even for just being here for a little while. Thanks for sticking with me, those that have :). And the friends I've made from this fandom and this show - you mean the world to me <3. Thank you all so much for everything you've done, everything that's made this show even more enjoyable :'). I love you all so much ❤️.
