28. Letters

For years after Arthur passed, Merlin wrote letters to him. He filled their contents with all the words he should have said when he had the chance. His first one was filled with apologies. His second held all the hurt Merlin felt at the loss of Arthur and his other friends. Regret dripped from the words of his third letter for all he didn’t do for Camelot, for Arthur, and even Morgana. But as the letters continued, they changed. As Merlin came to terms with all his emotions, the one that remained constant was love. Soon he found himself surrounded by piles of love letters as he waited for Arthur’s return, and he wondered if Arthur would ever get to read them.

200 Word RPGs 2024

Each November, some people try to write a novel. Others would prefer to do as little writing as possible. For those who wish to challenge their ability to not write, we offer this alternative: producing a complete, playable roleplaying game in two hundred words or fewer.

This is the submission thread for the 2024 event, running from November 1st, 2024 through November 30th, 2024. Submission guidelines can be found in this blog's pinned post, here.

Tumblr 200-Word RPGs 2023

Last November, we did an informal game jam for folks who wanted to write something for Writing Month, but would prefer to write fewer than fifty thousand words of it. You can find the complete list of participants for that event in this post here. There's also an off-Tumblr archive of entries whose authors gave permission for them to be preserved here, if any of those links turn out to be broken.

Last year's collaboration went over well enough that I thought we might dust it off again this year. To be clear, this is just for fun – it's not a curated jam, and nobody's judging winners or handing out prizes..

If you'd like to throw your hat in, just follow these steps:

Step 1: If you're unfamiliar with 200-word RPGs, read a bunch of last year's entries (linked above) or browse the 200 Word RPG Challege archives at https://200wordrpg.github.io/ to get your brain-meats properly configured.

Step 2: Write your own 200-word RPG. If you're not sure whether you have 200 words or not (and with RPGs it can genuinely be difficult to tell!), you can use the word counter at https://200wordrpg.github.io/wordcount to check.

Step 3: Reblog this post and append your 200-word RPG.

Step 4 (optional): Please indicate in your post whether you're okay with having your 200-word RPG archived off-site for posterity – if you don't say anything one way or the other, I'll assume the answer is "no".

(As before, as a courtesy to anyone who's creeping the notes, please restrict non-200-word-RPG commentary to replies and tags until November 2023 is over – let's make the actual games easy to find!)

when katsuki finds his favourite hoodie missing, he knows exactly who to blame — that is to say, you.

"why the fuck'd you steal my clothes?" he grumbles. "'s like the fifth time this month."

you don't really respond, murmuring something about what, and where, and obviously you're wrong, katsuki, and he's almost inclined to believe you like he normally does. unfortunately for you, though, from where he's lying on his bed, you half on top of him, he can see that not only are you wearing the missing hoodie, but also his comfortable flannel pyjama pants and a pair of all might socks you've dug up from who knows where. his mouth curls into a unwilling little grin, and you pout when you catch sight of it.

"okay, you got me there. but that is not a—"

he scoffs, and you stop abruptly. "fine, i'll return them."

but the next day, you find them neatly folded on top of your dresser, washed and dried, definitely much cleaner than before. and when you bring it up to katsuki, he doesn't say anything, but the dark blush on his face tells you all there is to know.

Eddie knew that it was a matter of time until one of their fans tried to shame the wrong person for the latest social media trend.

He should’ve known it’d be his husband. 

“Nice shirt,” a voice teases behind the camera as Steve turns around. “Name five songs.”

“Bet he can’t even name one.” Another voice mocks. 

“I’ll name five that are about me and you can tell all your friends that my husband thinks you’re dumb as shit.” Steve deadpans.

Eddie snorts as he looks up from his phone at Steve in the kitchen wearing the same special edition shirt he’d worn to the grocery store. 

He’s never been hotter.

Gojo watches you get ready for your anniversary date. 

tags — married au, Gojo is the annoying type that doesn’t have to do any skincare or makeup to look good, so he’s doubly interested in your routine

“What’s that one?” 

“It’s mascara.”

“Huh. Okay, what’s that?” 

“It’s blush, honey.” 

“Can I try?” 

“Try it on?” You look up at him, surprised. Gojo, being Gojo, always looks perfect. You’re not sure what he would need makeup for. 

“Can I try putting it on you?” 

When you shrug, Gojo grins eagerly and pulls you onto his lap. You did not agree to that, but you let it slide. He takes the little compact in one hand and your fluffy brush in the other. His tongue peeks out in concentration as he taps rouge onto your cheeks. 

You catch a glimpse in the mirror against his protests. No wonder why-

“I look like a clown!” You protest. 

“But my adorable little clown,” he says. 

“Don’t try to wriggle your way out of this one! Give me that-“ you snatch your makeup back. 

You wince at you stare into the mirror once more. It’s useless. Your base is completely unsalvageable. You’ll have to start all over. 

“It’s fine,” Gojo drawls. “I’ll just get us another reservation.” 

You turn gleaming eyes on him and lift your blush brush. 

“Hey, wait!”

May Writing Challenge

This May I want to get back into writing. I’m not at all consistent. I’m at a point where I don’t feel like I can work on bigger things, because I can’t guarantee myself to keep working on it in a week from now. So I will take this month as a training month to get back into the habit of writing. I will do this by writing (or trying to write) 200 words every day. Topic is irrelevant. How great my writing is that day is irrelevant. Just 200 words written down. A habit taking 21 days to form was debunked, it does take a lot longer, but 31 days are a start I would say. These are already 140 words, so 200 words every day are hopefully manageable. You're more than welcome to join me if you like 😊

Discord scam alert

If you get messages like this from a discord friend’s account, your friend has just become the victim of a phishing scam and the scammer is trying to get you too.

But my friend got his account back within an hour of this conversation, and your friend can get theirs back too.

The MO: using this scare story, the scammer tricks people into changing the email on their account to give the scammer control of the account. Once they have control, they use the hijacked account to send the scam pitch to all the victim’s friends

The motive: to try to get people who have nitro to bite, so the scammer can steal their credit card

Here’s how to keep your account safe and help your friend

DO NOT follow any of the instructions your friend’s account sends you. The scammer will lie to you and give you instructions to hand over control of your account.

DO:

Keep your cool. The scare story is a lie. The scammer has no power to force you to follow their instructions, they only have lies to try to trick you into it.

Ghost the scammer. It’s what I did as soon as I realised this was definitely a scam (I smelled shit immediately because my friend has a totally different typing style, but it would be harder to recognise coming from a random acquaintance), and they didn’t persevere any further after the end of the screenshot. Scammers target the vulnerable and avoid wasting effort on more difficult victims; if you ghost them they will sense you’re not biting and leave you alone.

Contact your friend on another platform if possible, to confirm that it’s not them and let them know they’ve been hacked

Direct your friend to the discord support ticket platform— my friend got his account back in like 30 minutes by sending a “hacked account” ticket here.

If your friend has nitro, make sure they get going on cancelling any compromised payment methods before the scammer can steal their money

Take this as a lesson to avoid repeated passwords and turn on 2FA on all your accounts, especially ones with any payment info attached— even if you think you’re too smart to get scammed, everyone has moments of not paying attention, and that’s what scammers prey on

15. Innocent

There were no innocent people in war. Thrawn knew that without a doubt. Hard decisions always had to be made. Sometimes the “good” side was required to work with… less than savory people. And in war, it was easy to lose yourself — your ideals, your morals. Thrawn wondered when he had lost his — lost himself — and his thoughts wandered, as they were wont to do, to Eli. Had he committed Eli to the same fate as him? Thrawn knew Eli was not innocent per se, not many in the Empire were free of its dark stain, but he was the closest Thrawn had seen. There had been a spark in Eli — something similar to childish excitement or pride — especially when he managed to find a pattern in the data or solve a problem. The thought of Eli losing that spark — himself — to war broke something further inside Thrawn and for the moment, he let guilt overcome him.

ghost and soap that move in together in between missions to save on money and eventually - inevitably - fall into bed together. but somethings missing

they’re both a little too sharp around the edges, need something sweet to ease their cravings and soften their bites, but no one fits right
