putting me being on the fence of greta being the writer and director of the narnia reboot and just Netflix in general to the side…. there’s only one thing I’d need in the reboot and that is for the OG cast to appear as the grown up versions of the Pevensies in the Golden Age. if they’ll adapt book by book, there will definitely be grown up versions of them that we’ll see and I can only see the OG cast as them (since they’re literally all grown ups now), granted Skandar has quit acting, it would be nice for him to come back but understandable if he didn’t (I hope he would come back for the opportunity if offered tho).

Speaking of the ways characters refer to each other, it always stood out to me that Liko has always referred to Amethio just by his name (starting from HZ007, which was the first time she referred to him by his name).

Because at the time, Liko was still hesitant to address some characters just by their names. Ann, her friend from school, had to give Liko permission to call her just "Ann" back in HZ001 because Liko initially called her "Ann-san". At the beginning, Liko (and Roy too) was also using honorifics with the Rising Volt Tacklers since they are adults. Both Liko and Roy had to be given express permission by Friede in HZ007 to drop the formalities so they could start calling everyone by their names since they were going to be full-fledged members of the group. Even upon meeting Nemo afterwards in HZ010 (someone who became a friend to both Liko and Roy), Liko initially used honorifics with her ("Nemo-san") and Nemo had a moment when she gave both Liko and Roy permission to call her just "Nemo".

So, Liko calling Amethio just by his name from the beginning, and specifically during that time window when Liko was still adjusting to the ways she referred to other people or had to be given permission to drop formalities, felt meaningful to me. It says a lot about the way she sees him and shows that he's always been just "Amethio" in her mind.

And it also says a lot about Liko's relationship with Roy and the level of comfort both characters have with each other that she also always called him just "Roy" from the start. They instantly clicked and became friends and as far as I can recall, he is the first character in the series she was on first name basis with and who didn't have to tell her to stop being formal.

Thinking about how romancing Astarion as a druid is interesting because for one, it has the potential to be the most long lasting relationship Astarion could ever have with anyone due to a druid's long lifespan (and I need him to be happy for as long as possible ok 🥺🥺), but also in terms of roleplaying, since druids love all that is natural and are against all that is unnatural, which, as an undead, is technically what Astarion is; so there's potential for angst and conflict, where Tav may have to change their beliefs about the undead, and slowly learn that they can work together and ultimately even end up sleeping with him lol

I really enjoyed it! I am a political fantasy enjoyer and it's a very political fantasy–type book. I would recommend it to fellow political fantasy enjoyers and those who are fans of character-focused meander plots (in book 1 we are basically just coming along with the main character as he grows up from age 6 to I think about 14??) This is not to say that it feels slow—I personally found it very compelling and was impatient with other activities because I wanted to get back to reading

All that said, I have only read the first book (so far) so I have no idea where the series goes from there and thus cannot give it my endorsement. who knows; maybe I'll be disappointed as it goes along. But hopefully it will keep being really good!

In terms of the substance:

lots of elements are very generic fantasy (european-flavored medieval-esque monarchy etc etc) but there are a few fresh/unique elements with the worldbuilding/magic that were really interesting to me

I think the characters are very well done and there are a lot of interesting character dynamics

The story is structurally loose and not too predictable while still retaining a good amount of cohesion

The main character's position (illegitimate son of the king's first son who abdicated) is used very well to keep the character involved in lots of situations without it feeling forced while also maintaining a degree of tension—he could turn out politically problematic, so he has to prove himself useful and loyal to the throne or risk being killed as a precaution

But anyway in general I would recommend! I liked it and I can't wait to get my hands on the next one!

alien stage round 7

i've seen a few theories of what will happen in round 7 and i'm really excited about how it will play out (i like pain dw).

some theories say that luka will "be mizi" (like how he acted like sua for his round with mizi) and others say that he will "be ivan" and even some where he'll be both mizi and ivan.

the thing is, there has to be a winner, right? and luka pulling the same tactic to win again doesn't seem like the way to go for me. sooooo.

it's common knowledge at this point that till loves mizi (see the aliens tormenting till with mizi's missing article) so my guess is that luka will try to utilise that and will "be mizi". but it won't work this time. (even if luka does "be ivan" or both of them, i still think it won't work regardless).

now, till has changed a lot since round 2. in round 2, till was still fighting and rebelling because he saw what alien stage was doing to his love and that gave him the energy and emotion to rebel. (obviously he's rebellious because of his own abuse too but i don't think the main reason he rebels is to fight against his abuse because he has the opportunity to escape with ivan but he doesn't).

then in round 6, the fight is completely gone from him because he was fighting against the aliens for mizi's sake. now that mizi is gone, he doesn't see the point in fighting anymore.

so if it was mizi's disappearance that made him lose the fight, it will be ivan's death that will bring it back.

so in round 7, till will have his fight back and will slay the competition and will win.

which if you think about it, is kinda ironic because it will be his aggression against the competition that will make him win it.

therefore, i think it's more meaningful if till wins in this way.

also including the fact that luka is the fan favourite, constantly in the number one spot and is very submissive to the aliens and the contest, really playing in the show and the drama (by tormenting his opponents) but he'll be beaten by the rookie, the underdog, the discounted abused one that rebels against the aliens and the contest.

I am once again thinking about how the Rover dwarfs all of Aphra Behn's other plays in acknowledgment and how if people read only one Behn play it's always the Rover but it personally for me was not even close to the most interesting play I'd read by her very early on and it's kind of not a light thing I wanna reread because of the two near-rape scenes
