(tw: discussion of blood, not graphic)
blood magic user lily evans. lily evans who always knew she and her lover were going to be murdered by death eaters eventually, and flung herself into a rabbithole of blood-magic-related research to try and protect her loved ones from the same fate. lily evans who spiralled deeper and deeper into her studies, her only remaining purpose in life being saving her baby boy. lily evans who cut off all social connections after a few months in exile, because her friends were suddenly afraid of the mad glint in her eye when she described what she'd learned. lily evans who immersed herself in books and runes and vials of her own ruby-red blood, cursing it, enchanting it, doing anything she was able to do. lily evans who burned the explanatory letters she wrote to her sister, to her old headmaster, even to james – nobody could be trusted, including the love of her life. lily evans who shied away from visitors once faces began twisting in her mind, who locked herself in the bedroom and clung to harry when guests visited. lily evans who carved the rune of eternal fortune into her own son's flesh with her silver pocketknife when she heard james screaming in the entryway, hands soaked in blood and caked in bone powder from a final experiment. lily evans who died with a smirk on her face, never sparing a thought for what her actions had done to the wizarding world, only caring that her baby would live.

Prompt 16 - Godric's Hollow
@wolfstarmicrofic September 16, word count 455
Previous part First Wolfstar part
“What are you doing?” Remus asked him when they were getting ready to leave. The pack needed them, and they hadn’t exactly told anyone where they’d gone. James hadn’t tried to use the mirror, so obviously they weren’t worried. Sirius put the finishing touches to his prank and stood up.
“A parting gift for Flitsy.” He told Remus as the bathtub began to fill with multicoloured bubbles. The tub soon overflowed and Sirius turned to Remus to flash him his best smile. “Better get out of here, those things are going to fill this room in a minute,”
“Flitsy is going to kill you when she finds this,” Remus shook his head but followed Sirius out.
“Nah, she’s bored here all alone, this gives her something to do,” He’d get a whack from her spoon the next time he dared to show his face, but she wouldn't hit him that hard, after all, he and the little elf had a good relationship, and she had a wicked sense of humour.
It hadn’t taken much to convince her to interrupt James and his brother at every turn. He chuckled under his breath when he remembered the look on Regulus’s face when Flitsy had left the bunny slippers in the library for him. It made him think of the time they’d gone to the house in Godric’s Hollow for the Christmas market and Monty had charmed the nifffler slippers he’d presented to the pair just before they were meant to leave and convinced them to try them on. They’d had to follow Effie around the stalls and stand in the crowd while they waited for the hundreds of candles to be lit in the humongous tree, unable to remove the slippers from their feet. Monty hadn’t removed the charm until three days later, when the smell had got too bad and Effie had banished them to the garden.
They arrived back at the camp and went in search of the others.
“Have a nice nap did you?” Marcus asked, snickering when they approached. “Ouch!” He yelped. Sirius looked around, trying to figure out the source of Marcus’s sudden outburst.
“I do not want to hear about why my brother and his boyfriend have been getting up to since we parted,” Regulus drawled as he put his wand away. Marcus grumped as he rubbed the sore spot on his arm. Sirius walked past him and looked in the cauldron.
“So what’s for dinner? I’m starving, Remus has taken it out of me. You wouldn't believe how much stamina he has,” Sirius barked out a laugh as he dodged his brother’s flurry of hexes. They could plan later. For the rest of today, they’d have a bit of fun.

One Baby and His Wolf
Smoke filled the air and a tiny hand reached out to grab it, a sound of joyous laughter filling the room.
Harry had grown a lot since Remus Lupin had seen him six months ago; he was walking now and if Remus waited another six months, he was sure that Harry would be talking.
James sat on the floor with his wand, conjuring smoke rings for Harry to catch. Harry had been laughing the entire time and to someone who spent a lot of his days with beings who loved to kill, Harry’s laugh was the perfect tonic for Remus’s low spirits.
“It won’t be long before he’s playing Quidditch,” James said, looking at his son with pride.
“I’m sure he’ll fly just like you, Prongs,” Remus said, remembering all the daring flying James had performed during their Hogwarts days.
“Flying is in his blood,” James said proudly.
Lily appeared in the kitchen doorway and watched James and Harry fondly. She caught Remus’s eye and gave him a radiant smile.
“Sorry to bother you Remus, but could I borrow James for a bit?” she asked. “I need his help with the gravy.”
“I’m sure that James would be happy to do the honours,” Remus said with a smile.
James grinned and stretched, stopping the smoke rings and putting his wand down on the coffee table.
“Duty calls, Moony,” he said. “Would you be alright watching Harry a bit?”
As there were no more smoke rings for him to catch, Harry looked a bit confused as he watched James get up.
“I’ve just got to help your mummy with our dinner, Harry,” James said. “You’ll be alright with Uncle Moony.”
“I’m sure Harry and I will get on like a house on fire,” Remus said, and James patted Harry on the head before following Lily into the kitchen.
Harry stared at Remus with those wide eyes of his and Remus did not blame him since Harry had not seen him in six months - He was practically a stranger to Harry.
Harry’s eyes then fell onto James’s wand which was still on the coffee table and he crawled over to it, stretching out with his hand.
Remus thought that a baby armed with a wand was a recipe for disaster, so he took the wand from the coffee table and Harry began fussing, determined to reach the wand in Remus’s hand.
“Wait until you’re older,” Remus chuckled, marvelling at the fact that Harry seemed to have inherited both of his parents' determination.
Remus pulled out his own wand and began conjuring smoke rings as James did. At first, Harry tried to catch them, but he soon got bored of the smoke rings and started to want his father’s wand again.
Remus was at a loss for what to do. He tried conjuring more smoke rings, but Harry took no notice of them whatsoever. His eyes were set upon James’s wand in Remus’s hand.
It was clear that Remus wasn’t in the same league as James when it came to conjuring smoke rings - James always made everything look so easy.
Remus suddenly had an idea; He thought of his time at Hogwarts with his three brilliant friends and the good times that they spent together and the happy memories of the four of them fooling about filled him.
He concentrated on the good times, James ruffling up his hair to make it look like he had gone flying, Sirius lounging about like a dog when he was supposed to be studying, Peter eating all the food when he thought James and Sirius weren’t looking.
“Expecto Patronum,” he whispered and a silvery mist filled the living room.
Harry stopped trying to reach James’s wand and was staring at the mist perplexed. He reached out with his tiny hands, trying to grab at it and he was soon giggling.
Cheered up by Harry’s giggles, Remus continued to cast non-corporeal Patronuses for Harry’s amusement, focusing on his Hogwarts days with James, Sirius and Peter at his side.
However, Harry got distracted by the Potter’s cat who was curled up asleep in James’s favourite armchair. A sudden spark of inspiration came to Remus and he racked his memory thinking of the happiest memory he could find.
He thought of the first time they fully accepted him when they knew about his furry little problem and the happiness from that consumed him; It was the first time in his life that he had had friends.
“Expecto Patronum,”
To his surprise, a silver wolf burst from his wand and trotted around the living room. Harry looked away from the cat and stared at the silver wolf. Remus was surprised that Harry was not looking at the wolf in fear or disgust.
He was looking at the wolf in the wonder only a small child could. Harry reached out a tiny hand and the wolf sniffed it gently before becoming curling up by Harry’s side as if it were guarding him. Harry sat, staring at the wolf and it was as if nothing or no one could distract him.
“Wow, Moony! I’ve never seen your corporeal Patronus before,”
Remus looked around to see James and Lily standing in the kitchen doorway, smiling at their son staring at Remus’s patronus in wonder.
“He wanted your wand, so I thought I’d distract him,” Remus said, handing James his wand. “I notice he has your attention span, Prongs.”
“So, that’s where I left it, James said, grinning sheepishly. Lily gave him a sharp look and he shrugged.
“Look at Harry,” Lily said, watching Harry stare at the wolf. “He’s loving that,”
“I’m surprised he’s not frightened,” Remus said. “I don’t usually cast a corporeal Patronus because I don’t want people to see the beast within.”
“Maybe he can see that the beast within isn’t much of a beast, Moony,” James said.
“You’re far too hard on yourself, Remus,” Lily said. “It’s not your fault that you were bitten. You’re a good person.”
“I-I suppose so,” Remus said uncertainly.
“I know so,” James said fiercely, putting an arm around his wife and Remus felt his spirits soar and it was as if he were back at Hogwarts again and James had fully accepted him being a werewolf.
___
He stayed for dinner at the Potter’s and Harry was friendlier towards Remus. Remus entertained Harry conjuring his Patronus again to Harry’s delight and he had a great time catching up with James and Lily.
He reminisced with James about the good times and adventures that they had shared at Hogwarts. It had been a long time since the four of them had been together. They had been going their own separate ways since they left Hogwarts to fight in the war and Remus felt as if they were drifting apart.
Because of his undercover work spying on the werewolves, Sirius seemed to be treating him with suspicion and Peter seemed to be down on the rare occasion that Remus had met up with him. Remus thought that it was the toll that the war was taking on him.
But James was always willing to be there for him and treated Remus like a brother. Remus regretted being out of contact with Potters for so long. Especially at the rate Harry was growing.
The sun had started to set by the time Remus was ready to head home, bathing the cottage in an orange glow.
“You will come and visit us again?” Lily asked, holding Harry who looked very sleepy. He was resting his head on his mother’s shoulder, playing with her hair.
“If my schedule allows it,” Remus said, putting on his travelling cloak. “Dumbledore needs someone to spy on the Werewolves. You might not see me again for another six months.”
“Then take care of yourself, Moony,” James said, shaking Remus’s hand.
“Bye, Remus,” Lily said with a radiant smile. “It was lovely to see you today. Say goodbye to Moony, Harry.”
Harry lifted his head and stretched out his little arm and gave Remus a tiny wave. Remus dug his hands in his pockets and pulled out a small bar of chocolate and showed it to Harry who eyed it curiously.
“For later,” Remus smiled, and Harry perked up.
He reached out with his hand and took the chocolate and showed it to his mother who cooed at him in delight.
“Don’t eat it all at once,” Remus said and Harry gave him a big smile that melted Remus’s heart.
“Bye, Noomy,” Harry said softly and James laughed.
“That’s quite a nickname,” James chuckled. “To think we’ve been saying it wrong for years.”
Lily laughed and rolled her eyes at James and Remus chuckled.
Remus walked down the path to the street and turned to wave at the Potters again. Little Harry was waving at Remus with his other hand still tightly clutched around his bar of chocolate. Remus smiled, gave a wave and walked off into the night, thinking he would see the Potters in another six months.

In episode 18 of the German Marauders podcast ‘Rumtreiber Radio’, we talk about Halloween 1981, which marks the end of the Marauders as we know them. Peter Pettigrew betrays his friends and it comes to the dramatic climax in Godric's Hollow.
P.S. Things that made me surprisingly emotional in the episode: The moment you realise what's going through Sirius's mind when he gives up his motorbike and says he won't need it anymore. My boy was fully expecting not to come back. Ooooff.

Sometimes I remember that Sirius didn't see Lily and his James' grave until about 12 years later when he escaped, still, he couldn't properly visit because he had to stay as a dog to avoid being seen, and he couldn't stay for long since he had to get to Harry. Even after that, he couldn't return because he had to stay in the mountain, then in Grimmauld Place, then he died.

I've been thinking about it and I'm not quite sure if that's canonically possible but I think there was another option for Snape in regards to the prophecy and trying to save Lily's life.
I don't know if he hadn't thought about it or if he really didn't feel like he could do more about it but if he couldn't get you-know-who to spare her and couldn't get Dumbledore to protect her with certainty then the only logical option would be to go to Godric's Hollow on that night and give his own life. At least stand between Lily and Voldemort and try everything he personally could to protect her at this point. I don't know if it would've saved her life or Harry's but I have no doubt that he wouldn't have hesitated to give his life that night, so I don't know why he didn't. It is basically what he eventually did for Harry through the years anyways.
I don't know if you other Snape/ Harry Potter-fans out there think this would be a real possibility but I couldn't help but think about it. I'd love to hear other opinions on this though. 😊

Since they pass on some of our TV Chanel during Christmas time, I've been rewatching some Harry Potter movies with my mother ( I don't support JKR at all, but I can't rob my mom of the fun let's be real) It's an enjoyable watch, and since I'm pretty familiar with the content, it made me think about an element.
Namely, Snape's flashback, when we see him cradle Lily after Voldemort's passage and subsequent murder spree in Godric's Hollow.
A human child (i.e. Harry) can't survive long without an adult or immediate care, which I believe might be exacerbated by the trauma of Lily's death and the Killing Curse.
That lead me to believe that once Severus let go of Lily's body, hand still trembling and sobs still stuck in his throat, he may have been the first one to pick up Harry, to cradle him close to his velvety robes, until the boy finished crying and fell asleep in exhaustion.
Snape, who uttered wandless healing incantation, with little to no result for the wound on the boy's forehead.
Snape, who in spite of the child being James', also knew the child was Lily's, and that she gave her life for him. Whispering an another unnreakable vow, this time not to the Headmaster, but to Harry, that while he'd never show it, he would watch over him.
Snape, who cradled the boy's head and held him close until Dumbledore and Hagrid arrived in Godric's Hollow, before letting go of Harry.
This little scenario could be pursued or hinted at in the third book, when Harry encounter the Dementors and hears his mother's scream, superimposed strangely with a deep, baritone sobbing...

Also I just want to clarify - there’s no wrong answers, I love your opinions even when I have completely different ones - (tho you have changed my mind on several).
Still on the topic of home decor, I’ll leave here a prompt for you to tour us through:
- Remus’s flipped derelict cottage in Wales
- Sirius’ first place he got for himself (is this canon or fanon? Another option is his Azkaban cell, but that just sounds mean)
- James and Lily’s Godric’s Hollow love nest
- Peter’s bedroom in his extremely awkward house-share with Snape.
I’m clocking out! Free at last.
Omg I absolutely love this idea!
-Remus's house: so idk what the deal is with Remus's parents, I believe Hope dies at some point and it's unclear if Lyall is still alive. But let's say Remus owns/inherits the cottage. I see Remus as pretty neat and careful with his belongings; he obviously doesn't have a lot of money as an adult so he has to take care of his things. I see him as pretty minimalist honestly, I think he'd conserve a lot of it the way his parents had it but maybe add some tasteful prints and curios. I WILL say that if Remus was wealthy he'd actually have extremely good taste in interior design. Kind of mies van de rohe vibes although with a little more charm and warmth. To me he's spartan but tasteful.
Also, I love a welsh cottage and I think it works well with what I see as Remus's style, it's slightly colder, more minimal. We're talking SLATE, dark woods, white walls.
Tumblr media
-Sirius's flat: first of all it is canon that he got a place at 17! This flat features pretty heavily in the next part of my fic because Lily stays with him for a while, so I've got a pretty clear image of it. I've set it on Railton Road in Brixton and this is how I've described it:
The décor is unexpected, given what Lily knows about Sirius Black. The sitting room’s rather bare, with a moth-eaten sofa and a few upended milk crates functioning as tables, laden with ashtrays and empty cans functioning as ashtrays, as well as an assortment of pamphlets and rolled up copies of the Daily Prophet. The walls are decorated with a few colourfully patterned fabrics and a couple of scattered posters— mostly advertising local gigs, and clearly taken off the street.
Sirius later explains that he hates that his parents' house is full of useless pretentious tat that symbolises the former glory of the Blacks, so he's gone the complete opposite of that. I'd say he's going for squat house core, except (in the universe of my fic) he's been influenced by his muggle boyfriend so the 'colourful fabrics' that Lily describes here are african prints which personally i loooooove. Here's a pic that is Sirius and Lily roomie vibes to me (and yes i just recoloured Jane Birkin's hair)
Tumblr media
-NEXT, Godric's Hollow: I see this as a fairly typical quaint little English cottage in terms of decor. To me it's the historic home of the Potters before Fleamont struck it rich and they still holiday there (I believe I have Godric's Hollow in Somerset) so it's rustic, cosy, warm. I think this gels well with Lily's taste so she wouldn't have changed much, plus idk how much opportunity they'd have for interior decorating when they were in hiding.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
-lastly (i LOVE this lol) Wormtail's cell in Spinner's End. I might turn this into something of a discussion of the Spinner's End house in general because it's very clear in my mind, but Snape and Peter's roomie era is so funny to me. Snape obviously LOATHES Peter so he'd want him to suffer as much as possible. I think Snape made serious edits to Spinner's End when he moved in (for instance, I don't think Tobias had so many bookshelves and definitely didn't have magically concealed doors behind them) but my view is that Snape gave Peter his old room because to him it's the most miserable one in the house. It's tiny, grimy, with ancient peeling walls, cracked ceilings and very little light. Snape would move into the master bedroom that once was the dominion of Tobias as a power move.
about Spinner's end in general, it's very much a working-class victorian terraced house typical of a mill town, and Tobias and Eileen definitely decorated it in the WORST 70s way possible. It's grimy, dark, cramped, with a soot-stained brick exterior. This is some inspo from a quick search:

In book 7 Harry shouldn't be able to see his own childhood home. Wormtail was still alive and presumably still a secret keeper of Fidelius. Maintaining the Fidelius would be beneficial to his fake death as everyone knew Sirius was the "true" secret keeper so it should keep it up. Therefore only people who already were in the secret should be able to see the home.
Voldemort wouldn't bother with tearing the ward apart since he was alredy invited and it would be unnecesary to do so.
Also Snape wouldn't be able to cry over Lily's corpse, if Wormtail didn't tell him where ot was, so maybe he knew he was the traitor all along.
