massive MASSIVE spoilers for season 1 finale of Make Believe Heroes Podcast under the cut. Like. Please--do not read on unless you've listened to the whole of season 1. This is huge spoiler stuff. I just have to get this thought out of my brain.
Seriously.
Last warning. MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD.
Okay.
Okay.
Listening to season 1 episode 2 again after having listened to the whole of season 1 is wild. The emotions are all over the place.
The entire cast for the episode is basically Lauric, Sir Vance, and Guy. AKA the little trio that was responsible for 99.9% of the heartache in the finale.
Last chance for serious spoilers. Turn back now if you haven't listened to s1.
The comment Jeremy makes about taking Guy as Sir Vance's retainer and joking about his bad attitude and him murdering them in their sleep????? Well, that's irony for ya! And the conversation about the quest being a teachable moment for Guy??? So much pain 😭 I was so proud of our little commoner/retainer-turned-apprentice wizard, and he grew SO MUCH!! If he had come back from that quest, he would have either A) totally swept Pauline off her feet or B) realized he deserved better and found a wonderful girl.
And don't even get me started on Sir Vance. He seemed so annoyed by Guy in s1e2. But when everything was all over and done, he didn't hesitate to kill Lauric because of what he did to Guy.
Like dude. Relistening to season 1 is gonna be nuts
#I'm relistening because my sister started listening to it and i want to listen along with her#I'll still be listening to season 2 tho#i gotta say tho. i like kyorg better than sir vance but i still miss all the season one PCs#it being a whole new cast of characters is kinda sad#luckily it's most of the same players#mbh podcast#make believe heroes#make believe heroes podcast#lauric darkbolt#mbh guy#d&d#dnd#the ramblings of a dragon#sir vance oftawol

Songs I Need to Hear in Future PJO Seasons (ft. me being very intense for no reason)
Angel with a Shotgun by the Cab - SEASON 👏 FIVE 👏 TRAILER 👏 it's literally about stepping up as a hero and fighting a war for what you love without caring what the gods would think, BANGER OF A SONG also so percy in tlo coded
Welcome to New York by Taylor Swift (Sad acoustic version) - Hear me out. It's a panoramic shot of New York during the war, and what the song describes as a city of new beginnings and dreams is now a city of the end of a lot of lives and crushed souls. And it won't ruin the sad vibe because it's a sad acoustic version
Labyrinth by Taylor Swift - Do I need to explain? S4, a slow-mo shot of annabeth staring numbly at the volcano exploding with tears down her face and her mouth opening to a scream as the lyrics "I'll be getting over you my whole life" echo, it's not a want, it's a need.
The Freaks by Jordan Clarke - The most camp half blood song to ever camp half blood, I need this song in an introductory shot of camp or at a campfire sing along scene
I Wanna Be Yours by The Arctic Monkeys - Okay, this is more of a vibe related song suggestion than a lyrics based song, but a scene with percy and annabeth pining over each other with this song in the background? would be chefs kiss. (also rick loves vintage songs in his books and this is a very vintage sounding song sooo)
Brutal by Olivia Rodrigo - Self explanatory, I just need the song, no matter what scene or character
literally any imagine dragons song
Riptide by Vance Joy (Cover) - the same song, the same cover except SON OF NEPTUNE TRAILER COME ON NOW
Not going to happen, but at least an instrumental of Good Kid when annabeth talks to piper in the lost hero season about how everybody had been searching for percy for weeks
The Prophecy by Taylor Swift - You know what a TLO adaptation means, right? It means a proper rewrite of the book to make it better, right? Which means we can write percy being actually depressed because of the prophecy, not just him ignoring it like how he did in the book, right? So imagine: when the whole "If I have to die, I have to die" dialogue comes around during the revealing of the prophecy, this song starts playing as percy storms out the room in anger and disbelief. He just goes to his rooms and buries his face in the pillow and starts sobbing with this song in the background. Also the 'just want someone who wants my company' lyric also expresses his feelings towards the rachel and annabeth drama.
Add on in the reblogs and comments of your ideas hehe😁

Hacks Episode 3x09 Thoughts
Okay, so back during S2, I wrote up my thoughts about each pair of Hacks episodes as they dropped – partially for sharing but largely as an archive for myself of my own thoughts/feelings to revisit when I watched the episodes later to see how they held up, how it compared to watch them serially vs. as a whole season, etc. Anyway, I was incredibly stressed out and busy for much of this season (after over a year of that being the key set of words to describe my life), but I wanted to throw out my thoughts about the finale before they grow too stale! And maybe I’ll come back and revisit the prior episodes in posts later when I have the time (hopefully in just a couple short weeks!) to enjoy them properly
As always, disjointed bulleted lists are the name of the game, going from the big picture to the detailed:
Overall, this felt like a very solid episode in the vein of season 1 in many ways! It brought us back to the interpersonal as the primary ground of conflict after many episodes (here and in S2) of the new hour, the special, and the Late Night host gig quest being our main plot drivers (which, at many times, made for weaker storytelling for reasons that exceed the scope of this post!). In particular, I felt like this episode hit its stride around the halfway point, and never really faltered after that in impressive ways!
That being said, I had two somewhat significant critiques of the finale (both of which reflect larger trends about strands of the show that continue to leave me a little disappointed)
We should have seen Marcus' conversation with Deborah about the new job. Period. I'll get into what could have been cut in my second critique, but even if there weren't weak spots in the episode, I still would have been deeply disappointed in the show for this oversight, especially since they apparently filmed it. Although Hacks is clearly a show with a leading duo, it once had a core ensemble, but S2 saw them moved more and more to B-plots and bit roles, and now S3 has seen many of the characters we know and love eliminated almost entirely--a point that's particularly galling given that it's almost entirely characters of color (many of them canonically queer) who have been cut in favor of new white characters. Moreover, this scene would have been SO IMPORTANT - I could have seen it going 2 ways: a) Marcus quits after the convo where Deborah tells Ava she's willing to lose her, and Deborah has a reaction that is so utterly outsized because it's the terror of losing the person she's had with her the longest now compounded with the reality setting in that she's also driven away the woman who gave her new life when she most needed it; or b) Marcus shows up to quit, and Deborah immediately launches into a rant about Ava's leaving, which puts Marcus in the awkward spot of adding to that at a pivotal moment in the career of the woman he's spent much of his adult life with or giving up something he needs to do for himself; it could have been a lovely callback to S1 when he shows up with his whole speech prepared but then accepts the promotion without ever telling Deborah how he feels - only this time Marcus would have changed so much, and he'd have the opportunity to showcase that growth by insisting that he needs to do this for him. So many lost opportunities...
re what could have been cut because imo it did NOT work: Kathy Vance's return. Now, I love Hacks in large part because it insists on the complexity of its characters. No one is purely the victim or the hero of the story, and Deborah's "click" moment showcased that better than anything. AND YET the writing here did not work. Back in the Christmas ep, I messaged a friend saying I was glad that they brought Kathy back but seemed not to ask us to side with her - after all, she comes crashing back into Deborah's life, doesn't take ownership over her actions and in fact insists she was in the right because it only happened a few times, because Deborah wasn't sleeping with him (very "you weren't playing with it, so it's mine now" little sister energy that is deeply unappealing in a grown ass adult), and because they were the "better couple" which is, I'm sorry, NEVER the fucking thing to tell someone whose marriage and life you destroyed. I joked then that I'd take back my compliments if her role in the finale suggested that actually we should be on Kathy's side here. And lo and behold... What's a real bummer is that there were ways to do this better! Because you can have sympathy for an imperfect character--this show is a testament to that fact!--but not like this. We as an audience have no reason to side with Kathy when she insists that Deborah will be worse than ever and berates her for cutting their weekend short. Instead, we see a woman with a large sense of entitlement she's done nothing to earn and directorial choices that don't make it a smooth transition. But what could have been lovely is, for instance, treating the Christmas and finale reunions as these deflationary moments of anticipation and disappointment because they are, after this many decades, essentially strangers to one another. Had we seen two women who longed for the deep affective ties of their childhood relationship only to be confronted with the cold hard fact of their estrangement from one anther, it would have been so much more powerful. And here you could ACTUALLY garner sympathy (some) for Kathy by having it be this moment of "I lost my sister" partially through her own actions "to Late Night once, and now, right when I have a chance to try to build something with her again, I feel like I'm going to lose her again before I can even really try to do right by her this go around." THAT could have worked. This was just too much time on something that did almost nothing in the grand scheme of the plot (because we didn't have the emotional connection to feel it as another compounding loss for Deborah in an episode where Ava's "and you're going to die alone" could have landed with even more force)
Okay so it turns out this is getting hella fucking long, so some shorter praise and giddy feelings things:
I LOVE how often Ava got to say the things we've all been squeeing about for years during this episode - especially that the material is good because of their relationship, not the other way around; their dynamic is not incidental to the work, and that's so important to me personally.
I had guessed that Ava would be offered head writer and quit her current job, only to have it taken away because Deborah was too scared to rock the boat, but I did NOT see the end coming! In fact, I kind of thought Ava might end up suing Deborah for intellectual property theft (using material Ava wrote outside of her contractual appointment for the new show because, surprise surprise, the writers who sucked when she was a guest still suck now compared to Ava!) In fact, I sort of thought that end scene might end up being a return to the car scene, and was relishing the thought of Ava's mimicking Deb's "It'll be fun, honey." But the blackmail as a form of love/devotion was soooo much better. Truly chef's kiss.
Also the way this rewrote the S2 finale even as the underlying message remained the same is so special to me - I'll stay with you even when it's bad for me (sacrificing my career -> sacrificing my morals) because it's good for you and more importantly it's good for us and the work. JPL know how to write a finale, and I'd give up a kidney to have that same energy be there throughout a whole season again (not that the eps are bad, but they lack some of the sharpness in writing and emotional depth that JPL do so well with finales and also often with the first couple eps of a season too)
Lastly JPL going on the record that Deborah was turned on by that final scene + Ava's "I would, wouldn't you?" and "Let's begin" - truly some of the hottest TV. We're so back babyyy. No more half naked superheroes with all the eroticism of a desk chair. Give me messy women determined to fling themselves into the air because they know the thrill is worth everything good and safe they're leaving behind, even if they hit the ground with no parachute!
I have many, many thoughts about S3 and what's to come, but I'll save them for another post because phewww this got long as fuck

So, the reader was dead and instead of like going to the afterlife, she walked into a bright light thinking it was, heaven but then, when she went into the light, she woke up in her bed, a few days before the kidnapping started, remembering everything.
I hope that answers your question, sorry i suck at explaining things
HELP ME
(Hello!!! Thank you for the request and sorry for the delay, school is taking up all my time, I didn't understand your request very well so I'm sorry if the headcanons are not to your liking and feel free to make another request BYE♥️ )
The black boys x femele reader (I didn't specify the gender much so it can be seen as a GN reader)
Summary: you save the ghostboys from the grabber and this is their reaction.
Finney- Finn had lost all hope he thought he was going to die in that damn basement but luckily you show up and save him so saying that Finn is grateful that you saved him is an understatement, when Finn returns to school he is determined to find you and with Help from Gwen Finn manages to find you he thanks you for saving him and you become friends and don't worry it won't take long for Finn to fall in love with you.
Robin - Well you have definitely earned this boy's respect, because you saved Robin now he feels indebted to you so you can prepare yourself with a robin always near you (and probably a Finn along with Robin) when you guys start dating Robin likes to tell other people that his girlfriend saved him from a pedophile serial killer. People are disturbed by the story, but Robin finds the story romantic.
Vance- Well, it's a bit of a complicated situation, as Robin, Vance feels like he's in debt to you and Vance hates being in debt to someone, don't get me wrong Vance is definitely happy that you saved him and I'm proud of him messing with him But hey, look on the bright side, now you practically have a guard dog with you, and it's kind of difficult to make friends with him, but since Vance is determined to stay with you until his debt is paid, you can get there.
Griffin (platonic) - After you save Griffin he starts to see you as his super hero, just like Finn when Griffin returns to school he is determined to find you he asks all the students and teachers if they know where you are and when He thinks you're Griffin, he doesn't really know what to say, he can only thank you, luckily you're more social than Griffin and you manage to become friends, congratulations my friend, you have a new little brother.
(Sorry for not writing for Bruce and Billy, I can't come up with ideas to write them and I hate having late orders, I hope you liked them the same♥️)

JD Vance Just Blurbed a Book Arguing That Progressives Are Subhuman
As I keep pointing out, anyone who has studied 1930s-40s German history will tell you that today's GOP is cribbing directly from the Nazi playbook. Even their "support" of Israel's genocidal colonialist settler state (and lip service "support" of non-Israeli Jews) is primarily rooted in a combination of antisemitism, white supremacy, and Islamophobia. (Gift link at the bottom of the article excerpt.)
Michelle Goldberg writes:
---
In a normal political environment, there would be little need to pay attention to a new book by the far-right provocateur Jack Posobiec, who is probably best known for promoting the conspiracy theory that Democrats ran a satanic child abuse ring beneath a popular Washington pizzeria. But “Unhumans,” an anti-democratic screed that Posobiec co-wrote with the professional ghostwriter Joshua Lisec, comes with endorsements from some of the most influential people in Republican politics, including, most significantly, vice-presidential candidate JD Vance.
The word “fascist” gets thrown around a lot in politics, but it’s hard to find a more apt one for “Unhumans,” which came out last month. The book argues that leftists don’t deserve the status of human beings — that they are, as the title says, unhumans — and that they are waging a shadow war against all that is good and decent, which will end in apocalyptic slaughter if they are not stopped. “As they are opposed to humanity itself, they place themselves outside of the category completely, in an entirely new misery-driven subdivision, the unhuman,” write Posobiec and Lisec.
As they tell it, modern progressivism is just the latest incarnation of an ancient evil dating back to the late Roman Republic and continuing through the French Revolution and Communism to today. Often, they write, “great men of means” are required to crush this scourge. The contempt for democracy in “Unhumans” is not subtle. “Our study of history has brought us to this conclusion: Democracy has never worked to protect innocents from the unhumans,” write Posobiec and Lisec.
One of their book’s heroes is the Spanish dictator Francisco Franco, who overthrew the democratic Second Spanish Republic in the country’s 1930s civil war. The authors call him a “great man of history” and compare him to George Washington. They quote him on what doesn’t work against the unhuman threat: “We do not believe in government through the voting booth. The Spanish national will was never freely expressed through the ballot box.”
Nakedly authoritarian ideas like this one are not uncommon in the dank corners of the reactionary internet, or among the sort of groups that led the Jan. 6 insurrection. “Unhumans” lauds Augusto Pinochet, leader of the Chilean military junta who led a coup against Salvador Allende’s elected government in 1973, ushering in a reign of torture and repression that involved tossing political enemies from helicopters.
Pinochet-inspired helicopter memes have been common in the MAGA movement for years. And as the historian David Austin Walsh wrote last year, there’s long been a cult of Franco on the right. Nevertheless, it’s extremely unusual for a candidate for vice president of the United States to openly align himself with autocratic terror.
Vance provided the first blurb on the “Unhumans” book jacket. “In the past, communists marched in the streets waving red flags. Today, they march through H.R., college campuses and courtrooms to wage lawfare against good, honest people,” he wrote. “Jack Posobiec and Joshua Lisec reveal their plans and show us what to do to fight back.”
Other endorsements come from Tucker Carlson and Donald Trump Jr., a key figure in his father’s presidential campaign. The foreword is by Stephen Bannon, Donald Trump’s former chief strategist.
Now, it is always possible that Vance recommended “Unhumans” without actually reading it, a practice that’s not unheard-of in book publishing. But unless and until he credibly distances himself from it, we should take him at his word that he shares the book’s analysis. After all, some of the language in “Unhumans” resembles his own rhetoric.
“The great American counterrevolution to depose the Cultural Marxists must occur on all terrains of society they currently possess and on those they aim to seize,” write Posobiec and Lisec, adding, “It is achievable but only with the resolve of Franco and the thoroughness of McCarthy.” (They mean Joseph McCarthy, another of the book’s icons.) Compare that to what Vance said on the alt-right podcast “Jack Murphy Live” in 2021, when he argued that Republicans, upon taking power, should purge their opponents the way Iraq’s government once purged members of Saddam Hussein’s Baath Party.
“I tend to think that we should seize the institutions of the left and turn them against the left,” said Vance. “We need like a de-Baathification program, but like a de-wokification program in the United States.” He argued that “we don’t have a real constitutional republic anymore,” suggesting that Donald Trump need not be limited by the norms of republican governance. Trump, said Vance, should “fire every single midlevel bureaucrat, every civil servant in the administrative state, replace them with our people.” And if the courts try to stand in his way, Trump should “stand before the country like Andrew Jackson did and say: ‘The chief justice has made his ruling. Now let him enforce it.’”
You can and should laugh at Vance’s melodramatic self-importance and creepy subcultural fixations. (On “Jack Murphy Live,” Vance respectfully references Curtis Yarvin, a right-wing blogger popular in reactionary Silicon Valley circles who calls for replacing democracy with a sort of techno-monarchy.) It’s good that Democrats have found, in the epithet “weird,” simple language to describe the 4Chan side of the Republican Party. But in the Venn diagram between “weird” and “dangerous,” there’s a lot of overlap.
“Much like the United States founding fathers, Franco and his fellows saw themselves as rebels intended to overthrow a corrupt, tyrannical government that aided and abetted murder and rape as well as other repugnant sins,” write Posobiec and Lisec. We should take seriously the possibility that Vance and his fellows see themselves the same way.

I have a new favorite podcast, and I finally finished my fanart series for season 1🩵✨ If y’all enjoy D&D or just really good storytelling, you should check out Make Believe Heroes! It’s SO GOOD!! The role-play is awesome, the worldbuilding is incredible, the players and the characters are all great, oh—and it’s family friendly, so there isn’t the insane amount of cussing and other inappropriate content that usually plagues D&D podcasts. Definitely worth a listen! Season one blew my mind, and season 2 was just as good. I’m currently a few episodes into season 3, and I am still loving every minute of it!
Going from left to right, we have: Lauric Darkbolt, the high elf wizard; Jemaliel “Jem” Kartdth, the half-elf warlock; Sir Vance Oftawol, the human paladin; Kellen Dimble, the gnome ranger/druid (& Charlie the Bear); and Guy Clark, the human retainer-turned-apprentice wizard. I love each and every one of these boys 🫶

Peter Montgomery at RWW:
The Trump campaign’s desperate and dishonest attempts to distance itself from the MAGA movement’s wildly unpopular Project 2025 policy agenda are failing miserably. The Heritage Foundation, a central hub of the right-wing political infrastructure which moved aggressively into the MAGA camp under the leadership of its current president Kevin Roberts, launched Project 2025 in 2022. Right Wing Watch took notice, reporting on the project’s confident assertion that it was preparing the MAGA movement to “take the reins of government” after the 2024 election. As RWW noted, by that point the right-wing movement had achieved its long-sought goal of taking dominant control of the Supreme Court. Project 2025 is a game plan to do the same for the executive branch.
Heritage gathered dozens of former Trump administration officials and other MAGA movement leaders to produce a more than 900-page policy agenda detailing their plans. They created a blueprint to give the next conservative president virtually dictatorial powers to bend federal agencies to his will, turning them into weapons against his personal enemies and political opponents and an enforcement arm for the Christian nationalist worldview, while at the same time sabotaging agencies’ ability to carry out their mission to protect American workers, communities and the environment. Project 2025 began recruiting and training tens of thousands of ideological warriors to prepare them to fill the jobs of the federal government employees they plan to purge.
But the Heritage Foundation’s arrogance may have gotten the better of them. It turns out that most Americans do not want to gut environmental protections, public education, and civil rights enforcement. Most Americans don’t want federal power being used to intrude into families’ most intimate decisions—or to enforce the idea that there’s only one legitimate form of family. Public opposition to Project 2025 grew as more media outlets and policy experts dug into the policy agenda this year, and explained who would be hurt if these policies were implemented. Public awareness soared after John Oliver dedicated the June 16 episode of Last Week Tonight to exposing Project 2025, and again when actress Taraji P. Henson used her platform as host of the June 30 BET Awards to sound the alarm, telling people, “The Project 2025 plan is not a game. Look it up.”
[...] Trump’s attempts to distance himself from Project 2025 were ultimately doomed by his choice of MAGA hardliner J.D. Vance as his running mate. Vance has praised Project 2025’s authoritarian, anti-equality, anti-freedom policy agenda. Right Wing Watch reported during the RNC that Vance wrote the introduction to Roberts’ new book, “Dawn’s Early Light: Burning Down Washington to Save America.” As Right Wing Watch noted at the time, “Roberts’ book title is reminiscent of a joke told among Federalist Society operatives describing their long game to repeal the New Deal and reverse a century of precedent and progress: ‘Rome Wasn’t Burned in a Day.’”
Since then, the Trump camp has been flailing. At the end of July, Project 2025 director Paul Dans, championed as hero by MAGA leaders like Steve Bannon, was apparently forced to step down under pressure from the Trump campaign, which wanted some beneficial headlines suggesting that Project 2025 was shutting down. In reality, the policy agenda is in place, along with the secret 180-day game plan for pushing it forward, and Heritage continues to recruit potential foot soldiers. Roberts and his publisher toned down his book’s subtitle, removing the unlit match from the cover and changing “Burning Down Washington” to “Taking Back Washington.” Then they announced that the book’s release—which was scheduled for September—would be delayed until after the election. Unfortunately for Trump and Vance, some journalists got review copies of the book and have reported on Roberts’ ideology and Vance’s violent rhetoric.
Roberts’ book and Vance’s enthusiastic endorsement of it are good examples of a phenomenon I identified in an article on Project 2025 for Political Research Associate’s Public Eye magazine earlier this year. I noted that Project 2025 reflects “a movement-level, ideological shift away from a libertarian mistrust of government power and toward an authoritarian view of government power being used ruthlessly—whether as a righteous force wielded to advance a ‘biblical worldview’ or turned against an ‘administrative state’ supposedly captured by a radical Marxist left.”
Peter Montgomery wrote in Right Wing Watch on Donald Trump’s dishonest bid to “divorce” himself from Project 2025 got blown up.

i, uh, wrote a VERY quick and VERY unedited thing. so here ya go because the ncis/tiva/team family feels brain rot never goes away apparently 🤷🏼♀️
i can’t stop thinking about my own experiences at furnerals and how sometimes, despite the grief, they can be fun. when you get to see friends and family that you haven’t seen in a while, when you know the person who’s died would want to be celebrated and have people laugh and smile and tell stories. the way ducky would want his funeral to be.
i can see it so clearly - the adults alternating between laughing and crying and telling all of their favorite ducky stories. the kids (mcgee twins are about seven, victoria about eight, and tali around ten, if my shoddy math is correct) all becoming inseparable since they’re they only kids there really. they facetime a lot so they know each other but this is the first time they’ve gotten to hang out really.
tali is the ringleader, the oldest, channeling all of her dinozzo charm. victoria, her fast best friend in the way only kids can really become friends. johnny and morgan, tagging along. running around the venue with only a few admonishments about not running from ziva and delilah. mainlining shirley temples like it’s their job (this is what my cousins and i used to do, thinking we were so fancy with our bright red drinks and maraschino cherries)
the adults become the last people left in the venue - the new team and old - sitting in a circle telling stories. the men have lost their jackets and ties, shirts unbuttoned at the throat, sleeves rolled up. “remember the time i got hemorrhagic fever on the ship?” tony will say and ziva will roll her eyes because “no, you didn’t, tony. it was a freckle.”
and mcgee will laugh because this is an argument he’s heard before. but the whole story about being on the chimera will get told because delilah and jess and nick and kasie and parker haven’t heard it.
jimmy will chime in with some of his favorite ducky stories and he and tim and tony and ziva will be talking over each other in their rush to help him tell the stories, laughing at each other in the way that speaks to their long history as family.
maybe someone will call gibbs and he’ll be on speakerphone, listening to the stories and the laughter. or maybe he’s at the funeral and sitting with vance, reminiscing.
the kids will get tired and crawl into their parents’ laps. tali curled against tony’s chest, victoria against jimmy’s. tim gets johnny and morgan will want to hang with aunt ziva because there’s some hero worship happening and it’s peaceful.
no one wants to go home, so they go to jimmy’s or maybe they go to ducky’s and the kids are all put in one room, piled in a bed because they begged for a sleepover like the night before where tali camped out with the mcgee twins in the living room. they’ll wake up on and off and wander into the living room where, as the night wears on, it’s just jimmy and the original three, the last ones standing. tony’s arm is around ziva’s shoulder and she holds jimmy’s hand. tony ruffles tim’s hair like an older brother and tim bats him away, smiling.
“i cannot believe he is gone,” ziva will murmur, voice cracking. they had just seen ducky when his book tour stopped in paris, had extended his time there so he could spend time getting to know tali, getting to get the “full david-dinozzo parisian experience” which included a lot of tony’s terrible french accent and laughter.
“feels like he should have lived forever,” tim says.
jimmy and tony share a smile, thinking about tony’s words in autopsy.
“he will,” jimmy reassures them, and then it’s quiet, just the people left behind and the people returned.

Listen, the DNC fucking nailed that convention so hard, I'm positive we're gonna win.
The party platform they laid out is immaculate. The stark contrast in messaging from that of the party of loveless, bigoted, weirdo, grifter, ghouls couldn't be more plain.
Somehow, in just 4 days, the Dems have officially become the party of family values, in addition to being the party of equality and inclusivity. It's actually surreal to those of us old enough to have slogged our way through many contentious election cycles and decades of hypocrytical myopic bullshit foisted upon us by old-fashioned post-Reagan conservatives.
The selection of Tim Walz as VP turned out to be masterful. Next to him, JD Vance looks even more pathetic and stupid than he already did. The men on the republican ticket are fundamentally incapable of acting like the informed, caring adults on the historic democratic ticket.
I'm disappointed in the youth on social media as usual. As an elder millennial progressive, I have always been further left than the tickets I've voted for and the administrations I've supported. Even my favorite politicians have done things I don't like or agree with. But that's the way it is. It's something we as voters and citizens do not have full control over and never will.
I believe in a free Palestine and I in no way condone the US involvement in supplying Israel with weapons in an unjust war. I also am not a fan of the barely disguised antisemitism that's permeating that cause, and I'm smart enough to know that the entirety of the conflict is much more complex than the last year's news cycle. You can seek out documentaries by credible news sources (like the excellent Vice News program previously aired on HBO and other cable channels) that detail bothe the history of Israel, the history of Palestinian struggles, and the history of the US relationship with Israel, and what that territory means to the different religious factions that want it for themselves (and how sects of Christianity have been indoctrinated into the cause of gaining it for themselves).
The thing is that this election isn't about that relationship or that conflict. It's not about anyone else's country. It's about ours.
I'm American, but I grew up in Venezuela. They just had a big election there that resulted in a steal from a dictator-like unpopular president. But unlike ee did with Trump the first time he lost, they can't actually get his ass out of the presidential palace. Chavez and Maduro have ruined that country with the same anti-democratic tactics that Trump would love to employ and pushed millions of citizens to emigrate from the country.
None of that is about the US either.
My point being, every country on this planet has it's own problems that for better or for worse, we have to largely leave in the hands of the citizens of those nations to resolve.
This is your opportunity to continue the slow correction of the path we've been on in America since Clinton and Obama. It's a slow march towards progress that keeps getting stymied and dragged back, then pushed a little bit forward again. These moderate liberals are the only vote we have that will ever possibly lead to a truly progressive hero and champion. You know, most likely someone in one of our generations.
Millenials and Gen Z have a lot in common, but as the older of the two, I'm telling you, only time and experience will prove to you that you can't have everything in one candidate or even an entire party, and wasting your ability to actually make a difference for noble ideals that won't make an actual difference to those lives you think you're trying to save is illogical.
Israel will not stop bombing Gaza because you sat out of a US election, or because you protested the DNC, or protest voted 3rd party.
Until the system is overhauled, there is no point in 3rd party voting. Of course we should have more than 2 options. We don't.
Anyway....... I am joyful this week.
I still can't believe Grandpa Joe actually got pushed out of the nomination. They are taking this swift shift to Kamala Harris and running Sha'Carri Richardson fast with it.
Get on board.
It's nice not to feel doomed all the time. I don't even care if it's partially an illusion. I know the alternative is a living nightmare that needs to end.
#dnc#kamala harris#elections#vote#harris/walz 2024#we're gonna hold onto this silly country by the skin of our teeth

Hey Kids—Reading is Fun!
Dear Readers,
Your mods (@femme--de--lettres and @greyeyedmonster-18) are beside themselves with how many of you have participated in Cruel Summer Fic Fest: The Eras Tour this year.
From full novel-length fics to poetry, from microfics to multi-chaptered works and everything in between, we've been blown away—enchanted, even—by this year's submissions. This fest started as a labor of love for both of us as avid Swifties and HP fic authors and we couldn't have imagined in our wildest dreams the way you've embraced it with open arms.
With that said, we're pleased to offer the below list of this year's love stories. Due to tumblr restrictions on tagging, we weren't able to tag all of the individual author tumblr accounts (something something look what you made us do something something) so we've tried to link to ao3 as much as possible, but if you like a fic—check out that author's ao3! We've tried to connect you as directly to the mainstream of what each author writes in that respect, so if you happen to find a new fave, you can show them more love on the rest of their works!
To make a long story short, the majority of these works can be found in the Cruel Summer Fic Fest: The Eras Tour collection on ao3—with a catalogue of over 100 works, there's something for everybody, and we hope you'll take a peek at this year's truly incredible works.
We've had the time of our life fighting dragons with you, but sometimes, you know in your soul when it's time to go.
Thanks for making this cruel summer another one for the books.
Until Next Time,
Your Mods (Grey and Andie)

I cut myself down to one heroine per author, because otherwise I'd be putting all my favorite LMM and DWJ girls. Chose Ilse over Emily because I identify with Emily so much that calling her a favorite doesn't really mean anything.

Trauma was the nominal subject of Vance’s gauzy 2016 memoir about bootstrapping his way out of an Ohio steel town, published before he famously became radicalized — reversing himself on Trump and auditioning for the position of new standard-bearer on the fascist right. And yet what links Vance the memoirist and Vance the politician is a continuous (if escalating) policy of nearly absolute nonconfrontation with what made him who he is — the nature of the trauma that he pantomimes exploring in his book. It’s quite the irony for a man elevated to fame as a soul-baring autobiographer. This also links him to Trump, the least introspective person who ever lived, and a politician with whom Vance shares a profound contempt toward the people for whom he imagines himself the spokesperson. Vance seems not to know that the feeling he conveys for the working-class world out of which he sprang is scorn. As his book communicates at great length, he remains a cipher to himself, and, like Trump, Vance’s transgressions clearly do some kind of libidinal work for him, expressing a need — a psychic void — that cannot be satisfied.
Normally, I would hesitate to psychologize to this degree. But Vance is himself the king of pop psychologists, and his whole self-presentation is built on the notions of willpower and self-discipline that are the heart of the pop-psych and self-help genres. There is no way to engage the problem he represents while refraining from entering this field. The mechanism of Vance’s interior contradiction is important to understand — not to argue the case against him, for which sufficient evidence was long ago accumulated, but to extract some meaning about the forces that animate and enable his ideology.
We are not without resources for such an approach. James Baldwin gets him almost dead to rights in The Fire Next Time, twenty-one years before Vance was born:
The American Negro has the great advantage of having never believed that collection of myths to which white Americans cling: that their ancestors were all freedom-loving heroes, that they were born in the greatest country the world has ever seen, or that Americans are invincible in battle and wise in peace, that Americans have always dealt honorably with Mexicans and Indians and all other neighbors or inferiors, that American men are the world’s most direct and virile, that American women are pure. Negroes know far more about white Americans than that; it can almost be said, in fact, that they know about white Americans what parents — or, anyway, mothers — know about their children, and that they often regard white Americans that way. . . . One felt that if one had had that white man’s worldly advantages, one would never have become as bewildered and as joyless and as thoughtlessly cruel as he.

The Black Phone/Superhero AU Idea
There is a secret government initiative that takes in young adults whose lives have been permanently altered by an accident or catastrophic event, leaving them with abilities outside the normal.
The chosen few are trained to control their abilities, and see if they can become more than who they were before.
(Before you read on, let me apologize now. I stink at coming up with superhero names… I’m open to suggestions for change)
SuperNova/Finney Blake
High amongst the stars, Finney had been outside the ISS to work on repairs when the strike of a stray meteor caused the astronaut to become untethered, launching him straight into the heart of a solar storm. Upon returning to Earth, Finney discovered his body had absorbed the energy of the flare, leaving him with a few unexpected after effects .
Oracle/Gwen Blake
Born with the gift of precognition, Gwen works as a consultant detective, using her visions to help catch criminals, find missing people, and even prevent crimes before they happen. Until one night, when Gwens dream depicts a powerful force hiding in the shadows, threatening millions of people. To stop this threat, she and Finney will have to team up with a team of other young heroes.
Stealth/Griffin Stagg
In a private research campus, Griffin was a young intern eager to prove his abilities to his professors and fellow peers. One day, after being accidentally exposed to the fumes of a chemical mix-up, Griffins’ entire body was rendered invisible. With the help of a private facility, Griffin was given a high-tech bodysuit that would make him visible again, as long as he wears it.
Renegade/Billy Showalter
There is a secret program that turns promising young men into weapons of war. One such success is the The Silver Guard, close & far range skills, deadly in combat, and no identity anywhere outside of the program… except in a missing persons report under the name Billy Showalter. After being detained by Homeland Security, Billy was given a chance to seek atonement for his actions and also find the pieces to his stolen life.
WarPath/Vance Hopper
Many years ago, a pair of gauntlets were sent to Earth from a dying alien planet lightyears away to seek a fighter. ‘The Gauntlets of Ares’ named after the mythology warrior, was designed to only be worn by a chosen one and grant them God-like abilities to defend the innocent. No one was more surprised than Vance when the gauntlets chose him as its wielder.
Titani-Man/Bruce Yamada
Bruce once had a bright future and a promising baseball career ahead of him, but it was all taken away when a hit & run accident left his legs paralyzed. Mr Yamada, a skilled mechanical engineer, constructed a special pair of leg braces to restore his son's ability to walk. On his road to recovery, Bruce discovered a new path for his future after constructing his own special suit.
The Defender/Robin Arellano
Robin always protected those who couldn’t defend themselves, and that didn’t change when he enlisted. During his service, Robin and his team were held prisoner by an unknown enemy for over three months. In the end, only Robin made it out. Discharged from the army, Robin pursued a vigilante life, dedicating himself to protecting others by himself until he was given an offer to join a team.

Please tell me you've read the lore on the new Trials items??
I have and I haven't stopped crying since.
It starts with the new Trials ship, Valiant Memory. It's the opening Lightfall cutscene but told from the point of view of Reed-7, the Titan from the Trials fireteam of Reed, Aisha and Shayura. They were a constant background lore characters on Trials gear. Here's a brief post I have about them from before. Since then, Shayura has been re-captured, gone to therapy, healing and reunited with her fireteam. Among them, Reed was a really sweet Exo who was known as "Strike dad," basically the heart of the fireteam, really sweet and warm.
The ship lore tells us that Reed, Aisha and Shayura were in the battle in space at the start of Lightfall when Pyramid fleet attacked. As the lore tab progresses it becomes increasingly clear that these three are the fireteam we've seen in the cutscene. Specifically, the Titan we've seen sliced? Reed-7.
The Witness is nothing more than a sliver of dark shearing through a field of white, but even at such a distance, Reed can feel its eyes on him. A chill jolts down his spine the moment the reticle locks on. His Exomind throbs with the sense-memory of a migraine.
He immediately knows something is wrong. He turns to his Ghost. His Ghost looks at him, but it's already dead. The world separates into slices.
And
so is
he.
I don't think I will ever emotionally recover from this. Aisha and Shayura survived for unknown reasons. Neither Aisha nor Shayura know why their Ghosts were spared; possibly because they both toyed with a version of Darkness. Aisha was a stasis user and Shayura's issues led her to killing Guardians. We don't know.
Either way, after the ship lore, I suggest reading the Ghost Shell, Hero's Wake. Immediately knocked out by the flavour text:
"He was like a father to us both." —Aisha
The lore tab itself has Shayura grieving and preparing to go therapy.
Next on the schedule for the emotional breakdown is the sparrow, Survivor's Journey which shows us Aisha personally traveling to Titan to tell Sloane about Reed. This also shows us that Sloane knew this fireteam, which is neat. But yeah, Aisha is devastated and had to tell Sloane in person.
The final bit is the Trials glaive, Unexpected Resurgence. Shayura is in the Tower and she has the remains of Reed's Ghost. She is approached by a woman who introduces herself as Sister Faora. Faora was the leader of the Cult of Osiris, but now introduces herself as an "outcast." The link between them is that Shayura and her fireteam were Trials regulars. Faora gives Shayura the glaive and offers to be her friend. No clue why Faora is an outcast. Maybe the whole Cult of Osiris has been somehow restructured, disbanded or made defunct after Osiris' ordeal with Savathun and after he lost his Light. It would be nice to get an update on it!
Outside of the assault on our emotions, I am curious about Faora's reappearance. Paired with them mentioning Vance again (albeit jokingly), I wonder if this is meant something more than just randomly dropping names. Vance is the only remaining "missing" vendor that we have yet to learn more about and Mercury is a potentially very interesting place to revisit, if we can, given its ties to Darkness through Lighthouses (which emit Darkness-aligned tones; the same tones that are being emitted by Pyramids and the planetary anomalies, as well as very likely egregore). Maybe a hint for a future season? I would love to revisit Mercury and get some nice lore reveals about the Lighthouses, Vance, Mercury's secrets (the planet houses a prediction engine!) and the Vex.
But until then, pain and suffering even. Goodbye Reed, Strike dad.

Disability Showdown Full Bracket
Alright! No more mystery, we've got our list for the tournament!
For people new to this tournament, how this works is this: We narrowed our character list down from about 600 to 131 (it was gonna be 128 but we had three ties, so those have been reworked into three-character polls). The top 64 have been seeded into the bracket by number of nominations. The bottom 67 however, all got roughly the same amount of nominations, so those have been assigned places via random number generator, to remove any bias that I the poll runner may have about which characters I want to succeed
(I am so sorry if your obscure blorbo ends up against a super popular kid in round one, that's unfortunately the luck of the draw here, but I am keeping a record of characters that lose but whose fans fight the hardest for them, and we may do something with those kids later, so it's still worth campaigning for your faves!)
I will make an image for the bracket once we get past the first round or two, but right now I have no idea how to make a visual bracket containing 131 characters, upload it to tumblr, and still have it be at all useful
So for the first round, I'll just give the matchups by name, in a list under the cut. We'll be working through this list 8 polls at a time (my pinned post will stay updated with the current 8 once the tournament starts), and good luck everyone!
