I see him as a C&E Catholic who still has a big guilt complex and also enjoys the dramatic aesthetics of Catholicism. Thoughts?

Yeah he's probably Catholic. France was like, 80ish percent Catholic when Tamaki was born and he's raised in France so he's probably not Shinto (or whatever his dad is)

I think it's interesting to imagine he had those insane Catholic retreats we had where they duct tape you to other students over and over as a metaphor for having sex, saying your "stickiness" (capability for emotional intimacy) is altered the more people you "stick" to. And that sex is marriage in the eyes of God, so if you have sex with more than one person you're a bigamist. AND if you're gay, God turns off his VHS security tape of you in the sky and doesn't watch out for you if bad things happen.

...anyone else have those? Just me? Okay.

Anyway I think we could make Tamaki a lot worse if we made him more Catholic.

Honestly, believing "homosexuality is a sin" is such a convenient thing for cis straight people to believe. The belief tells them they are somehow inherently better or "holier" than the LGBTQ+ community. You mean to tell me an entity that created black holes, quasars, the animals of the Cambrian period, atoms and molecules, fungi, carnivorous plants, micro-invertebrates, and all the other weird shit gets "His" panties in a twist over who we, consensually, sleep with?

I’m quite new to the topic so I have to say my knowledge of it is very limited right now, but the way that Weimar cabaret in it’s blatant sexuality and queerness, and the way that its’ becoming more integrated into “regular” society was a factor in the rise in reactionary views in the late 20s and early 30s kind of feels disturbingly similar to what’s happening now with drag shows?

Like I know it’s commonly known that Germany and Berlin in particular had a large and more openly queer community than in most places at the time, but I was just looking into cabaret specifically because I find it interesting and it was pretty eerie to hear that in the late 20’s before everything started going to shit, it had actually began to be a thing for cishet people to go to queer cabaret and nightclubs because some of the venues were so well known. Like to the point that they were mentioned in “things you should do in Berlin” type of newspaper articles and tourists would come to see them.

Idk about everyone else but that sounds so much like how going to drag shows became a semi-popular and cool thing for some cishet people for awhile, only then for the reactionary conservative views to rear their ugly heads and start not only trying to tear down drag shows and paint them as immoral, but trying to do that to actual trans people, drag performers, etc. as well.

I understand that folks tend to think of open homophobia in popular media as a Thing Of The Past, and that the 2000s are still sufficiently recent as not to count as The Past in a lot of folks' minds, but still it kills me the sheer incredulity I keep bumping into when people are confronted with how casually homophobic early 2000s popular media actually was. Like, buddy, you have no idea how recently "isn't it shameful for a straight man to know what a latte is?" stopped being a standard sitcom bit. There were whole shows airing as recently as the early 2010s whose entire premise was "this ostensibly straight man has somewhat fruity mannerisms" – like, that was the entire joke.
